gonna be petty here for a second so pls ignore if u want, but camilo's completely disproportionate popularity within the encanto fandom is one of the most insane examples of male characters getting prioritized over female characters i've seen in a long time

#i was gonna write a whole rant about this but i lost steam #edit: ok warning this rant got a little character-hatey i promise i like camilo and i dont wanna insult people who like him #i understand how fandom content works i understand people like to talk abt things that they wish the og media had delved deeper into #i get it i promise i get it. it's just insane to me bc he's honestly.. like 100% you could remove him from the story and nothing would chan #*change #mirabel's relationship with him is one of the most underdeveloped relationships in the movie #yet there's just so much content about him and mirabel. about him and BRUNO. who never said a direct word to each other in the whole movie?#i'm irritated that this underwritten halfbaked character is prioritized over every other grandkid except mirabel #luisa and isabela had freaking FULL SONGS in the movie. several scenes! important dialogue!#why are so many people treating camilo like the most interesting character!! he's fucking not!!#(and that's a CLOSE margin btw. going off a super basic ao3 search-#camilo is the 3rd most tagged character in all encanto fics #behind mirabel at number 2 and bruno at number 1)#(which also grinds my gears *just* a little bit that bruno is higher than mirabel but also i fr get it like people wanna write about-#-genuinely interesting concepts of generational trauma and abuse that the movie demonstrated and bruno is a super interesting character to-#write about)#but then again that's like. the literal whole point right. bruno is a fascinating character. mirabel is the Main Fucking Protagonist #and camilo is There #it just annoys me which sucks bc i LIKE camilo and i don't want to start getting really annoyed at seeing him everywhere when i feel like-#there's soooo many other more important (and female) characters who deserve the amount of attention he's getting for no reason)#again i say no reason but i get it. if nothing else i totally understand why people like a blank slate character #who they can project whatever personality they want onto #it's just disheartening to feel like isabela and luisa are always added as afterthoughts when camilo was in the movie for 7 minutes and is-#one of the fandom favs #god i hope my tags dont get cut off jhdghsj #my posts
