Animationo Night 177 - Kizazi Moto + Fatenah
Hey everyone. It's Animation Night again. We aten'nt dead!!
Huge apologies to European viewers that I couldn't stream this one earlier. Still, I'd like to get back into the swing of things, so we're back. (Bros. We're so back.)
So. tonight we're gonna be checking out Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire. This is a collection of scifi films created by studios from five different countries across the length of Africa.
The impetus came from the South African studio Triggerfish - originally a stop motion studio, but they switched over to CG a few decades ago. We saw some of their work back on Animation Night 166 in Star Wars: Visions, which came close enough to the stop motion feel as to leave me in doubt. There's no question they have a ton of talent.
Like Visions, this short film collection has the financial backing of the Mouse; it also has another American, Spiderverse director Peter Ramsey, serving as executive producer. But there's no monolithic franchise involved this time - the individual directors and studios were given considerable creative freedom. Styles range from anime-esque to Hanna-barbera; stories span aliens in high speed races through near future dystopias to apocalyptic stories about gods.
The creators are a little hands off towards the term 'afrofuturism'; in an interview with Skwigly magazine, producer Tendayi Nyeke asks us to interpret it just as scifi more broadly:
We don’t use the word Afro-futurist! Part of that is we are seeing science fiction, but through the context of Africa, and trying to demystify Afrofuturism. It’s not a genre for us. Because, you start to raise questions like can a French person do an afro futurist movie? And what does that even mean? So it’s an African filmmaker using science fiction as a medium to communicate. Science fiction allows them to imagine big futures. I love when a lot of Western science fiction is looking at a dystopian context, we’re looking at hope. It really comes from trauma in some ways, though we have a rich heritage prior to the trauma. And then we’re like, hey, technology is evolving. We’re evolving as human beings. If there was hope, what could that look like? Science fiction as a medium allows you to explore that just by its design.
Among the filmmakers, there is considerable ambition to change the general layout of the animation industry. Raymond Malinga, director of Herderboy, remarks:
But somehow, because of all these things like colonialism and everything, it’s almost like our creativity was stifled by that and we just keep on accepting the fact that we are supposed to tell mundane things, you know? Mundane. Normal. So with “Herderboy”, I just took one of the oldest professions of the whole continent. And I said if I can update that and Ugandans watch that, they can start saying, you know, if cattle herders can look cool, then what else can look cool?
It's a cool interview, he's very charmingly down to earth when he talks about how after working on the film for a year he has no idea what's funny or not. Isn't that a mood...
Of course, until fairly recently there were a lot more animated films about Africa, such as the French Kirikou series, than animated films created in Africa. Which is nuts when we're talking about an entire continent, right? Thanks, "legacy of colonial extractivism". But things are really moving now! African animation was the subject of Annecy 2021, and in the online version of the festival I got to see the impressively varied Mshini TV collection of the edgier end of the spectrum, which carried all sorts from Newgrounds-esque flashes to South Park-like comedy skits. And this year at Annecy 2023, I got to see the first feature-length animated film from Cameroon, The Sacred Cave. A bug is spreading!
With this field, Kizazi Moto stands out for its startlingly high level of technical polish. And of course, I just like scifi. From the Mouse's perspective, they have their eye on the long game - trying to capture an 'emerging market' and all that. But, I would far rather they spend their money this way than having animators add yet more weight to the sinking Star Wars boat, you know?
So let's go take a look at what they've put together! In total, Kizazi Moto comprises 10 films, typically about 10 minutes long each. You can get summaries here or just watch along tonight, and I'll be posting my thoughts on each one later~
And. For a dose of the heavy along with this fun stuff - the ongoing genocide has put Palestine and specifically the Gaza strip in the front of everyone's minds. While there have been a few animated films touching on the occupation from the Israeli side, like Waltz With Bashir, a celebrated psychological drama in a realist style in which a former Israeli soldier reflects on whether he did a warcrimes, and Seder-Masochism, in which Nina Paley attempts to lay out a story about how the patriarchical Abrahamic religions suppressed an ancient matriarchal religion (she is a terf, how did you guess!), which includes the undeniably conceptually effective but highly equivocating This Land Is Mine segment... there is less available from the Palestinian side for the obvious and sad economic reasons.
But, a couple of weeks ago, Animation Obsessive wrote an article to celebrate Fatenah (2009), a short film animated in the West Bank about a woman in Gaza struggling to get breast cancer treatment. It's available free on Vimeo:
It's directed by Ahmad Habash, a native of the West Bank who came to study animation here in the UK, and secured WHO funding after they saw his student film. But the film is not a one-note activist project, it's a careful character study trying to give a convincing portrait of the different facets of its title character's life. This film was completely new to me and I'm grateful to AniObsessive for highlighting some Palestinian art in my favourite medium. So I'd like to slot this into my little Twitch show as well!
I have a bunch of other short films I'm excited to show, between recent Gobelins works and another AniObsessive piece highlighting their favourite short films from the festival circuit which have become available online. But given the ludicrously late start, I don't want to pack too much in to this one. We'll save that for another week!
I know Animation Night has been very spotty recently. I've been going through it with the old brain a bit ('a bit' she says). I'm trying to get things back on track with sleep and stuff, thank you for all the kind things people have said, and for bearing with me.
So! Let's go! Animation Night 177 will be going live in just a moment in its usual home, https://twitch.tv/canmom!

Golden Globes expands to 300 members, highlighting diversity gains
LOS ANGELES
Following two years of criticism for its lack of diverse membership, the Golden Globes has announced that it's added new members, becoming one of the most ethnically diverse among major award shows.
There are now 300 journalists in total that serve as voting members.
The expanded voting body includes voters from countries around the world, including Guatemala, Costa Rica, Cameroon and more.
"The new breakdown is 47% female, and 60% racially and ethnically diverse, with 26.3% Latinx, 13.3% Asian, 11% Black, 9% Middle Eastern," a press release said on Monday.
The 81st Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
The Golden Globe Awards earlier this year were sold to a new owner that shut down the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), following claims of ethical lapses and a lack of diversity within the organization.
Eldridge Industries purchased the Golden Globe assets with Dick Clark Productions (DCP), which will continue to manage the awards telecast and focus on expanding the Globes' viewership around the world, a press release said. DCP is co-owned by Eldridge and Penske Media.
Host and comedian Jerrod Carmichael opened his monologue at this year's January ceremony with a blunt assessment: that he was there because "I'm Black".
“This show, the Golden Globe Awards, did not air last year because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association - which I won't say that they were a racist organization - but they didn't have a single Black member until George Floyd died," Carmichael said.
He was referring to the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020, which sparked nationwide Black Lives Matter protests against police killings and other violence against Black people. The watershed event inspired many organizations to create or reformulate anti-racist and inclusivity policies.
A Los Angeles Times investigation in 2021 revealed the association, or HFPA, had no Black journalists in its ranks. Some members were accused of making sexist and racist remarks and soliciting favors from celebrities and movie studios.
This announcement also follows the historic Hollywood writers' and actors' work stoppages this year.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA), which went on strike May 2 and reached a tentative deal with studios last month.
However, SAG-AFTRA actors' have not made a deal with Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents Walt Disney, Netflix and other studios after being on strike since July.

𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗬 (𝗔.𝗞.𝗔. 𝗟𝗘𝗪𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗬), 1892-1952)
Louis Brody was a prominent German actor and musician. He was born M’bebe Mpessa in Douala, Cameroon, on February 15, 1892. Little is known about his early life in Cameroon, formerly known as Kamerun. He attended the German colonial school in Douala where he learned to speak German. It is believed that Brody arrived in Berlin, Germany between 1907 and 1914 although it is unknown of what motivated him to relocate there.
Tall and physically imposing, Brody reportedly worked at a number of menial jobs before landing an acting role. In 1915, he starred in the silent detective movie Das Gesetz der Mine (“The Rule of the Mine”) playing the role of an African man seeking revenge for his father’s death. As the German motion picture industry expanded in the post-war years, he appeared more frequently in supporting roles, most notably in Fritz Lang’s 1921 art film Der müde Tod (“The Weary Death”). He played the villainous “Moor” in Konrad Wiene’s 1926 colonial picture titled Ich hatt’ einen Kameraden (“I Had a Comrade”). By 1930, Brody became the most visible and highest-paid actor of African descent working in German cinema, having made at least 32 film appearances. During the 1930s, the rise of Nazism curtailed his career. He acted in only 20 productions.
Brody was fortunate to survive during the occupation of the Nazi regime and precarious daily life in Germany. He avoided deportation, sterilization, mob lynching, and the concentration camp. During World War II, he starred in 14 films including two which advanced Nazi propaganda and were inherently anti-Semitic. When the Nazi government denationalized him through the 1935 Reichsbürgergesetz (Reich Citizenship Law), a law that stripped Jews of citizenship rights which also expanded to Romani (Gypsies) and Africans, he cleverly dodged persecution by acquiring French citizenship. Brody’s critics have pointed out the limited range of character roles he was allowed to play which, by and large, reinforced racial stereotypes; namely, servant, jungle primitive, sailor, porter, barkeeper, cook, chauffeur, and athlete. On the other hand, he demonstrated versatility in impersonating Arabs, Malays, Indians, Moroccan, and even Chinese despite his dark skin. In fact, his calling card read: “. . .performer of all exotic roles on the stage and in film.”
Brody throughout his lifetime fought to improve the social conditions in Germany. In 1918, he co-founded, along with other African immigrants, the Afrikanischer Hilfsversein (African Relief Organization) in Hamburg. He became the spokesman for the group, deploring racial discrimination and violence directed at those of African descent.
In 1938, Brody married Erika Diek, a Cameroonian, but the marriage ended in divorce after several years. The couple had only a daughter. Between 1946 and 1951, Brody appeared in five movies and organized a revue of African entertainers in Germany. He also earned income as a singer, circus artist, and jazz band drummer.
Brody died of natural causes in Berlin on February 11, 1952 and was buried in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen cemetery.

International Women Pioneers of Cinema By Raquel Stecher
Early women filmmakers are enjoying a renaissance; one they so rightly deserve. Documentary series like Mark Cousins’ WOMEN MAKE FILM help amplify the filmmakers who struggled within the confines of a male-dominated industry to make a space for themselves. These talented women deserve to be appreciated for their sheer talent, perseverance and of course their wonderful films. Let’s take look at some of the more obscure female directors from outside of the English-speaking world and how they paved the way for filmmakers to come.
youtube
For Bulgarian director Binka Zhelyazkova, filmmaking was a means of protest. Fighting back against her home country’s communist regime, each of her films offered its own cutting political critique. Her first film LIFE FLOWS QUIETLY BY… (’57), for which she served as assistant director to Anton Marinovich, was banned by the Bulgarian Communist Party for 30 years and finally released in 1988. Zhelyazkova forged on. She continued to make bold films with strong anti-fascist themes. Her films were often banned in Bulgaria yet highly regarded elsewhere in Europe and beyond. She had a keen eye for creating atmospheric and visually stunning films and was heavily influenced by Italian Neo-Realism, French New Wave and Russian cinema. With her directorial debut WE WERE YOUNG (’61), a haunting love story about two young resistance fighters, she became the first Bulgarian woman to direct a feature-length movie.
Austrian-Hungarian Jewish director Leontine Sagan is best known for her seminal lesbian film MADCHEN IN UNIFORM (’31). A pupil of Max Reinhardt, she trained as both an actress and a theater director. She saw an opportunity to try her hand at filmmaking when she came across German-Hungarian playwright Christa Winsloe’s story of a young woman at an all-girls boarding school who falls in love with her headmistress. Sagan’s MADCHEN IN UNIFORM is extraordinary for being the first feature film to portray lesbian love and for being female driven with a story by a woman writer with a woman director and an all-female cast. The film was a success, garnering rave reviews. Although Nazi politician Joseph Goebbels wrote in his diary that it was “magnificently directed, exceptionally natural and exciting film art,” the Nazi regime publicly made an attempt to destroy all copies of the film. Sagan was courted by MGM’s David O. Selznick, who quickly became a fan of her work and invited her to Hollywood. While this didn’t quite pan out, Sagan did go on to direct two British films MEN OF TOMORROW (’32) and GAIETY GEORGE (’46).
Following in the footsteps of Leontine Sagan was French director Jacqueline Audry. OLIVIA (’51) was based on Dorothy Bussy’s autobiographical novel which itself was inspired by MADCHEN IN UNIFORM as well as Colette Claudine’s novels. The story also takes place in an all-girls boarding school but instead of the Prussian Empire we get Belle Epoque France. Audry got her start as a script supervisor before working as an assistant director under the tutelage of Max Ophuls and G.W. Pabst. Her first solo success was GIGI (’49), one of three Colette stories she would adapt to screen. Even in an industry dominated by men, Audry made a space for herself directing films that featured complex and interesting female characters. She told subversive stories through conventional narratives with an eye towards literary adaptations with strong sexual themes. With the French New Wave, Audry’s style of filmmaking became quickly outdated and she was mostly forgotten. Decades later her work, especially OLIVIA, is finally getting the recognition she deserved.
In her brief 32 years, Forough Farrokhzad cemented a legacy as one of the great Persian poets. Her work openly explored female desire and was controversial in her native Iran, well before the Islamic Revolution. Farrokhzad was a woman determined to live life by her own standards. It was the subject of human perseverance that planted the seed of what would become her one and only film: THE HOUSE IS BLACK (’63). This 20-minute short documentary was filmed over 12 days at the Babadaghi leprosy colony. Her goal is clearly stated in the opening monologue of the film: “to wipe out ugliness and to relieve the victims is the motive of this film and the hope of its makers.” Farrokhzad narrates the majority of the film reading religious texts and her own poetry. In making the film, she brought awareness to the plight of those suffering leprosy and her unique filmmaking style inspired the Iranian New Wave.
By the time Therese Sita-Bella passed away in 2006, she was largely forgotten in her native Cameroon. But that has since changed, as a new appreciation for this dynamic and multi-talented woman has grown over recent years. Sita-Bella was born and raised in Southern Cameroon. She was part of the Beti tribe, educated by Catholic missionaries and moved briefly to Paris to continue her education. Sita-Bella became a radio and print journalist, a licensed pilot, a model and even played the guitar. In 1963, she added film director to her resume when she traveled with the Cameroonian National Ensemble, a collective of dancers who were performing at the Sarah Bernhardt Theater in Paris. With her documentary TAM-TAM A PARIS (’63), Sita-Bella became the first Subsaharan African female filmmaker. As author Dibussi Tande writes, Sita-Bella was “a woman ahead of her times, she made her mark in a male-dominated system that considered her an oddity and blazed the trail for many women in her generation.”

Do everyone heard about the history of ancient Sahara, northern/western African states and the Ghana Empire? Have any of you learned about the history of these civilizations in school? Well, if they didn't tell you about the ancient civilizations in western Africa, then they don't want you all to know that the so-called black people(and I'm speaking to you black people), the ones in America, in Africa, and anywhere else, what they were and are capable of. You all should know that you were already skilled, opportunists, and industrious people with their own culture. They were architects, sculptors, blacksmiths, tailors, masons(it's means builders), merchants, treasurers, goldsmiths, musicians, farmers, saddlers, agriculturists, governors, judges, king/queens, potters, jewelers, etc. Most of them live among the Berber or other ethnic groups in Africa and had an advantage over them. Climbing the social ladder, developed the higher social hierarchy. When things got bad and worse over there in the North/West Africa such as violent religious conversion, invasion, slavery, racism, and famine, all of them, or most of them if not all, moved to the deeper parts of Africa. They settled in Ghana(not Ghana Empire which it was part of today's Mali, Senegal, and Mauritania), Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, and the rest of southern Africa; including the eastern part of Africa such as Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. These people who migrated to these places, escaping carnage and enslavement are Bantus, they're descended from the people who founded the civilizations in the Northern/western parts of Africa. These civilization states where there was the Ghana Empire were the wealthiest of all the civilizations in ancient history. The historians knew this. They had their own natural resource like golds and salts. There were gold mines over there with lots of gold which they made their kingdoms very wealthy, could be worth over trillion of dollars. They had traded with other people from other African states, Arabs, Persians, and the Mediterranean. Mainly, they've exported golds and salts to other nations. Well, now, I had posted some facts about this ancient civilization and you all would ask yourselves why they didn't teach you that in school. Of Hollywood and all the big movie and entertainment companies will never bring these into the screen. Well, I think some of them did, but if they do, they would whitewash these characters. You already knew how these people work, the ones who owns the entertainment companies are racists, anyway. Now, here's the list of the names of these ancient cities: Agadez, Niger dhar tichitt Djado ruins in Niger Djenne, Mali Chinguetti, Mali Timbuktu.

Celebrities and Lies That Bind
Celebrities and Lies: Maahlox Lied About Attack
Celebrities are liars. They lie about not being bothered when fans ask them for an autograph or selfie in the middle of a meal. A celebrity lies about loving all his/her coworkers. He/she lies about a million things a day; primarily because they are so carefully scrutinized by the media and don’t want their private life out there for all to see. Let’s face it, we all lie. Whether it’s an exaggeration, a little white lie or all-out intentional dishonesty; everyone at some point is deceitful. Luckily, most lies are harmless and many of them are never even discovered. Although some lies are more forgivable than others, once a lie is told, it is not easily forgotten. For celebrities, this risk is automatically heightened due to the fact that millions of people are often hanging on to their every word. Over the years, some of the biggest names around the world have betrayed public trust by telling big, and sometimes, unnecessary lies. While some celebrities have been able to recover, others have tarnished what could have otherwise been a spotless legacy. It's nothing new in the entertainment industry to find celebrities telling lies just to gather sympathy and attention from the fans. Investigative journalism has left no stone untouched when it concerns factual reporting. In this light, some celebrities find themselves caught in the web of lies telling to the extent of being forced to apologize on life television.
The Cameroonian artist Maahlox Le Vibeur, a notoriously immoral talent finds pleasure in insulting anyone and everyone who cares to listen to him. Recent events have found Maahlox in the ranks of celebrities and lies. He successfully staged a well crafted story and got the sympathy of many Cameroonians. At one of his most recent concerts, he was reportedly attacked by a female who ended up sending the star to the hospital as can be seen in the photos above. However, videos of the event as released by Molly Town Africa on their YouTube channel shows a different scene all together. The artist was always under protection by his crew who intervened each time the said lady came to the stage with her bat in hand as the artist kept pouring his usual insults.
8 Biggest Celebrities and Liers of our time
1. Bill Clinton – “I Did Not Have Sexual Relations With That Women”
In January 2008, former President Bill Clinton denied rumors that he had an affair with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. In his most famous speech, Clinton said: “I want to say something to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I’m going to say this again, I did not have sexual relations with that woman. I never told anybody a lie. These allegations are false.” However on August 17th , Clinton admitted everything in a televised address, stating: “Indeed I did have a relationship with Ms Lewinsky that was not appropriate. In fact, it was wrong. I misled people, including my wife. I deeply regret that. This matter is between me, the two people I love most – my wife and my daughter – and our God.”
2. Tiger Woods – “I’m Faithful”
In early 2009, Forbes magazine named Tiger Woods the first athlete to ever earn $1 billion before taxes. Thanks to his wholesome image, the eleven time PGA Player of the Year winner had a number of endorsements, including Nike, General Motors and Gatorade, among many others. However, in late 2009 Tiger came face to face with a lie that would turn his world upside down. After Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant near his house, as a result of his wife Elin Nordegren attacking his vehicle with a golf club, Tiger tried to play down the incident and requested privacy. In the following months, the cause of Elin’s outburst was revealed, when news broke that Tiger Woods had over 100 affairs over the span of his 5-year marriage. Maybe next time Tiger should learn to keep his club in his own hands and then he won’t have to lie about it.
3. Justin Bieber – “My Laptop Was Stolen”
The only person worse than a celebrity liar is a celebrity liar who lies as a part of a publicity stunt. In 2012, Justin Bieber took to Twitter, Tweeting that his laptop was stolen and that the thief had leaked photos saved to his computer – one photo being a nude pic. After he riled up his millions of Beliebers, it was later revealed that his laptop was not stolen and that the whole thing was a publicity stunt for the release of his music video ‘Beauty and a Beat’ featuring Nicki Minaj.
4. Beyonce Knowles – “I Write My Own Songs”
Since her days as a member of Destiny’s Child, Beyonce has received songwriting credits on nearly every song she’s ever recorded. Even though several of her songs were already written and sometimes even recorded by the original songwriter, Beyonce still always manages to acquire songwriting credits. Speaking about her 2006 album B-Day, Beyonce told a reporter that she wrote most of the tracks including ‘Irreplaceable.’ However, Ne-Yo later revealed that he wrote the entire song, and that it was intended for himself, but he had decided it would be better sang by a female. In 2010, ‘Diva’ producer Bangladesh outed Beyonce’s songwriting credits telling Bossip, “People from the outside looking in want to know whether or not she writes her own songs, she’s on a level where things are handed to her. People want to be a part of what she’s doing. She either wrote it or can put her name on it…because that’s the boss she is.”
5. Rick Ross – “I’m A Gangster”
Rapper Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, is best known for his hits “Hustlin'”, “B.M.F.” (Blowing Money Fast) and “Stay Schemin”. In 2008, rumors began swirling that Rick was a cop before he became a rapper, but Ross quickly slammed those accusations. However, a photo of Ross in uniform surfaced on the website, The Smoking Gun. At first, Ross denied the report, accusing the site of photoshopping his image. The rapper later revealed that he did in fact work as a correctional officer in the early 90s. Despite acknowledging his former career, Ross to this day still maintains that his drug-dealing lyrics represent his real past.
6. Lance Armstrong – “I’m A Natural Athlete”
For more than a decade, Lance Armstrong was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs and for more than a decade, Armstrong vehemently denied the allegations. In September 2012, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency found Armstrong guilty of using illicit performance-enhancing drugs and as a result, his titles were stripped from him and he was banned for life from all competition sports that follow the World Anti-Doping Agency Code. In January 2013, Lance appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and finally revealed the truth after more than a decade of lies. When asked by Oprah if he had ever taken banned substances to enhance his cycling performance, Lance Armstrong replied, “Yes.”
7. Kim Kardashian – “There Is No Sex Tape.”
Long before Kanye West, Kris Humphries and Reggie Bush, and after Ray J, there was Nick Cannon. Kim and Nick dated briefly starting in September 2006, but the relationship ended in January 2007. However, it wasn’t until 2012 that the reason behind their sudden split was revealed. In an interview with Howard Stern, Nick explained that he had called it quits after finding out that Kim had lied about having a sex tape with Ray J. Cannon told Stern, “This was my issue. We talked about this tape…And she told me there was no tape. If she might have been honest with me I might have tried to hold her down and be like: ‘that was before me’, because she is a great girl. She’s actually one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. But the fact that she lied and told me that there was no tape?”

8. Britney Spears – “No Sex Before Marriage”
We all know the truth now: Britney Spears is not that innocent. But there was a time when Britney had portrayed herself as the wholesome, girl next-door who was waiting until marriage to lose her virginity. However, ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake ended the deception in a revealing 20/20 interview in November 2002, telling Barbara Walters that Spears was no saint and that she had lost her virginity to him a long time ago. Britney later came clean in a 2003 interview with W magazine. Spears told the mag, “It was two years into my relationship with Justin, and I thought he was the one — but I was wrong.” She added, “I didn’t think he was gonna go on Barbara Walters and sell me out.”

Augmented Reality: Envisioning A Futuristic Market For Fashion Retailers
Augmented reality app development is all about living the scenes from our favourite science-fiction movies.
From Stanley Kubrick’s acclaimed movie 2001: A Space Odyssey to James Cameroon’s magnum opus Avatar, if the science-fiction movies all had one common factor in hand, it was the prediction of futuristic tech concepts. Minority Report did it. Back to the Future did it. Blade Runner did it. And the list could go on.
They have all presented to us their versions and interpretations of a future dominated by advanced technologies. And most of them have come true or are in ar vr app development currently. Self-driving cars, video calling facilities, anti-gravity jetpacks and more. But what has been one of the most interesting advancements that has also been implemented in commercial aspects is the phenomenon called augmented reality.
But there’s one specific industry that perhaps has the best and the most interesting application of augmented reality – the retail industry. Close to 63% of the shoppers believe that AR in fashion retail app will elevate their shopping experiences. And true to this, companies are listening and implementing the technology into their operations and promotions as well.
If you hardly had any information about this, well, this particular post will help you understand everything you need to know about augmented reality in retail (in detail).
So, let’s get started.
Ever since AR in online shopping app stores started coming in and the on-demand economy started growing, retail stores have been pushed to the side lines. They’ve been facing concerns like decreasing footfalls, piled up inventories, shutting down branches and more. And this is not something new. Between the year 2010 and 2013, mall visits reported a decline by 50% . That was a time these technologies had just started popping up.
Such concerns gradually became a real challenge for retail store owners between the years 2015 and 2018. With eCommerce giants like Amazon rising simultaneously, retail stores were further pushed back. And we all know what happened in 2020. The pandemic again shut a lot of stores because of social distancing protocols.
Over the years, a lot of businesses survived, too. But they have been mostly because of adopting digital transformations in their operations. Several businesses across the globe resorted to innovative solutions to their concerns, increasing the curiosity and loyalty of consumers.
And one technology that has always been under the radar for experimentation is augmented reality.
To cater to the needs of millennials and retain existing customers, Zara adopted Augmented reality in retail store app. With its app, it allowed users to show their phones to a podium or window at their stores or scan a particular image on their website and get to see models like Fran Summers and Lea Julian sport their preferred looks. When they like it, they could immediately buy it either online or at a store.
If you notice, this entices all the senses a human being can experience and even gets the attention of people who have never bought apparels from Zara try the app and their clothing once. This was nothing less than a masterstroke and a game changer.
Smart Mirrors
What if we told you that you could try a fashion apparel you like without even putting it on? Well, say hello to smart mirrors then. Smart mirrors are futuristic alternatives to the trial rooms that exist today. These devices help you try out clothing and give you a better idea of how you would look when you actually wear them.
Considering the hygiene standards that are becoming the norm, this will be a blessing in retail stores. Besides, retail giants like Ralph Lauren, Zara, Burberry and others have replaced conventional trial rooms with smart mirrors.
Virtual Tailors
Another interesting application of AR & VR in Retail Applications is in the concept called virtual tailors. Yet another futuristic application, this is where you would need no tailors or any sort of manual intervention whatsoever to take your measurements for the perfectly-fitting apparel.
Sounds intriguing already?
With virtual tailors, there will only be sensors, scanners and machine learning algorithms accurately taking measurements of your body and stitching the perfect attire for your special occasions. Tailor-made gets a whole new definition with its introduction.
Though it seems surreal, a company called Fit Freedom already offers its customers this experience. The augmented reality clothing app development captures measurements and transmits the data for processing across layers of product lines to finally deliver a product that is made to perfection.
Firstly, it is fun and how you use it entirely depends on your creativity. We saw how even a mundane process like taking measurements for stitching could be made fun with the help of augmented reality.
Secondly, tech giants like Apple and Google are offering their augmented reality kits and platforms so you could make use of them to create your own clothes finder application. From generating leads and improving campaigns to increasing your business revenue, you could leverage the potential of augmented reality to your advantage.
And if you’re still wondering what benefits augmented reality app development could bring you, here’s a list:
It allows customers to actively participate in an otherwise passive process. This offers an engaging, immersive experience unique to them.
It offers a glimpse of their future in real-time and visualizes their assumptions and clarifications. This lets them make informed decisions when it comes to buying fashion apparels.
No salesperson would have to convince consumers to buy something even if they like it. Consumers would have the liberty to make decisions with them.
Geographical distances are no longer barriers as all that the consumers need is an application. Products can be delivered home regardless of where they are.
Augmented reality in retail store app eliminates the need for business owners to set up a store and invest in infrastructure and operational expenses.
It’s futuristic and garners attention from even those who don’t care about technology.
It generates data that is home to crucial information on the market, consumer behavior and more.
Consumers would turn into your brand evangelist when they have unique experience with your augmented reality features.
Though it sounds fun, the road to offering all these benefits to your consumers takes time. You have to work on sensors and devices, 3D-modeled visuals, algorithms and more before the final product functions without bugs and errors.
That’s why a mammoth vision like this demands equally competent augmented reality app developers like us as ar vr app development company. We have the best artists, designers, app developers, product managers and more in our arsenal who would do an excellent job at rolling out the perfect final product of your idea.
So, we recommend getting in touch with us today.

Money Heist buff? Let’s give a desi spin - bollywood
https://www.liveindiatimes.com/money-heist-buff-lets-give-a-desi-spin-bollywood/
What is it about Spanish drama La Casa de Papel or Money Heist in English that has gripped India? We’ve had our share of some great movies and serialized shows that have implacably left their mark, so no feeling of deprivation or of being shortchanged, there. We’ve always been suckers for drama, action, romance, emotion, and sure enough, we’ve regularly been fed barrels of it. But, Money Heist, ah! It’s got to be a little more than this, no?
Global streaming platform Netflix’s most watched non-English series, the show has English subtitles as well as an English dubbed version to cater to viewers across the world. Its recently released fourth season, which took the drama around a Salvador Dali-masked gang a notch up, was ranked highly in Netflix’s US top 5 most-watched titles, and a cliff-hanger has caught fans with curiosity for another season already.
It is the story of a rag tag bunch of people who get together and plan, what else, a heist. And at the end of 2 seasons, they plan one more. For four seasons, the series is engorged with jaw dropping action, enough adrenalin rush to fuel an army, suspenseful tension, and also, quirks, friendships, love affairs, ‘cheering for Cameroon’ moments, mouth-watering characters to crush on, get annoyed by, and super hate…. The smorgasbord is replete.
Sociologically and psychologically, we resonate with this series. It starts of being a regular day at office – an inevitable battle between good and bad. But the delicious irony is when the line gets smudged a little; when the good guys behave badly and the bad guys do the right things, in the right way.
A scene from the latest season of the show
Our favourite characters are infused with nobility, an innate sense of decency, loyalty, and human fallibility. And on the other side, a bit of sadism, deceit and perversion, helps blur the lines completely. The series is romantic and cathartic, and its over-surging popularity, a no-brainer.
We’ve consumed Money Heist and have been consumed by it; and what a welcome we’ve given them into our homes and into our lives.
There are enough memes and reviews and wish lists going around about how it should be remade in India and with whom. While a whole lot of actors themselves have expressed interest in playing key characters in a possible adaptation, film trade experts in the country are also tuned into the hype.
Film critic Taran Adarsh, who’s yet to watch the show but has it on his OTT watchlist, says it is being “highly recommended” to hi m by his industry friends. However, when asked talking about the feasibility of a desi adaptation, he says, “For any interpretation in our local language, it has to be done equally convincingly as the original content. And most importantly, it has to be Indianised for our tastes while keeping the core essence intact.”
“Why not?” asks trade expert Girish Johar when asked if an Indian take on the show, in the form of a feature film or series, would make sense. But he points out, “it should be done only after customising the script around the enigmatic character Professor and his gang’s plot to carry out the biggest robbery, and setting it in the country.”
However, Bollywood trade analyst Atul Mohan has a slightly different opinion. “See, the audience has already watched Money Heist, and while there are people saying it’s a great show, there is also a section of people calling it overrated”.
Besides, he adds, “In India, we have our Dhoom series, a big franchise which has been led by actors such as John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan, and the buzz about Dhoom 4 is so strong. We’ve already had various desi versions of the plot in Bollywood, with films such as Aankhen (2002), Special 26 (2013) and Happy New Year (2014), with some of the industry’s biggest stars leading the casts.
So, Mohan adds that Money Heist “should just be left out of an adaptation”.
It’s time for you, our readers and viewers, to join the party. If at all Money Heist is remade, who do you think, among our favourite actors, would make the cut?
Write to us at [email protected].
Socially inept, nerdily hot, and brilliant Professor
Urbane, charming, and sadistically inclined Berlin
Sassy, boisterous, and ballsy Nairobi
Sexy, fearless, and prickly Tokyo
Awkward, energetic, and impetuous Denver

Big, ungainly, and gentle Helsinki
Beautiful, vulnerable, and needy Raquel
Annoying, selfish, and frankly, loathsome Arturo
Cold, chillingly efficient, and edgy Alicia

EU Film Fest: Cinephiles, get a taste of European cinema in Delhi - world cinema
A dormant King gets lost in the Balkans, and wakes up in the real world. He embarks on a state visit to Istanbul with a British filmmaker — who is commissioned by the Palace to shoot a documentary intended to polish the monarch’s dull image. This is how the narrative of the mockumentary, King of the Belgians (Belgium) develops. You can explore films like these at the ongoing European Union Film Festival 2019.
A scene from King of the Belgians (Belgium). In its 24th edition, this 10-day event has 22 movies from 22 European countries, which will be screened with English subtitles across 10 Indian cities. From romantic comedies to socio-political thrillers, this festival has a lot to offer. Raimund Magis, Chargé d Affaires, delegation of the European Union to India, says, “We usually select award-winning films, and this time we are trying to create a local flavour by bringing films that appeal to the local audience. Like Indian film industry isn’t just about Bollywood. European films show the European way of life, which is what we want the Indian audiences to experience.”
A scene from Backstage (Slovakia). Some of the films that will be screened include the tales of Léonard — a young man from Cameroon who rescues a Nigerian woman in the film Hope (France), sisterly love in Little England (Greece), two childhood friends Antonio and Agostino in Drive Me Home (Italy), and María’s transformation from a responsible daughter to a writer in the Spanish film Maria (and Everybody Else).
A scene from Me and Kaminski (Germany). The makers of these films have been invited to enrich the cinematic experience as well. Peter Sant, whose debut feature Of Time and the Sea is part of the festival line-up, says, “I am particularly intrigued to see the reaction of the audience, especially because of the cultural differences between Malta and India. People who have seen the film come out slightly bewildered but intrigued, which is great. Audiences in India will offer a fresh perspective.” So, if you love the world of cinema then this is the place where you should be this week! Korean lifestyle along with its many interesting ways of life portrayed through beauty, fashion, and music are at the height of international interest. Making its seventh round to NYFW since its debut in 2010, CONCEPT KOREA spring 2018 brings LIE by Lee Chung Chung and Greedilous by Younhee Park to the New York runway for spring 2018 collections.
Concept Korea SS18 New York Fashion Week september 2017
Lee Chung Chung (LIE) is no stranger to the fashion runway world as the son of designer parents who founded the legendary and FashionDailyMag fave, Korean fashion house LIE SANGBONG. Greedilous by Younhee Park, who made a strong impression on the CK runway previously, adds a flare of sci-fi fused with nature in his “futuristic modernity”. Both designers highlight cuts, colors, flow, and layers on the runway reminiscent of the Korean Traditional dress the hanbok.
Korean culture thrives in bringing out deep soulful expressions of creativity and it is felt strongly, since innovation and creativity in fashion shouldn’t just be a wave, and it becomes precedent for future artists, Concept Korea aims to give an opportunity to raising designers aiming to leave a mark. Although the lines had their set differences both sharing one common ground: presenting Korean influence with its flow, colors, cuts, and layers on the runway.
Concept Korea SS18 New York Fashion Week september 2017
The LIE Lee Chung Chung “PERFECT IMPERFECTION : PERFECTLY I’MPERFECT” is a line that not only poses a strong message with its title, but the crisp white pieces can be interpreted to represent a blank canvas to the user. It’s okay to be perfectly imperfect, you do you on your blank canvas, write your own story in minimal detail and with maximum hints of expression. Lee’s background in Menswear veils over the collection in a subtle whisper that says, any woman can be as strong as steel yet delicate like a flower in bloom.
]
Age is never a factor to represent true fashion and MODEL Maye Musk, mother of Elon Musk is the perfect example that being perfectly imperfect has nothing to do with age and everything to do with attitude as she gracefully made strides on the runway for both shows during opening and closing of the 52 looks combined for Lee Chung Chung’s LIE and Younhee Park’s Greedilous. Both classic and youthful!
DAVID CHIANG GREEDILOUS concept korea ss18
Younhee’s GREEDILOUS’ ss18 collection “BOTANIC EXOTICA” is an extension of the designer’s signature use of prints mashing science fiction and nature into a youthful blend of alluring looks that scream, “look at me” in a subtle yet demanding manner. A touch of masculinity yet enough layers, ruffles, movement in print, and color to see femininity flow in the lines and curves of the models wearing the looks in a classic and directional genius.
So be it a science fiction movie like James Cameroon’s AVATAR, a fantasy jungle and/or an artist’s colorful collage that serves as inspiration for Younhee’s “BOTANIC EXOTICA”, the designer stays true their core design principles of sustainable but creative simple silhouettes. GREEDILOUS, loved by celebrities and influencers worldwide has participated in Paris’s Who’s Next, Seoul’s Generation Next and NYC’s Capsule and Coterie tradeshows. Most notably, the designer was nominated for the 2014/2015 International Woolmark Prize.
It is very difficult to talk about K-fashion without talking about the other two K’s (K-pop and K-beauty). Fashion, music, and beauty will be forever intertwined, it is unimaginable to unlink Korean fashion from the music and beauty industries that are thriving and growing globally. Boy bands like Big Bang, EXO, BTS, and Winner, to mention a few, are Korean household names in the music industry making rounds in the fashion sector around the world. To anyone keeping up to date with the Korean wave, it is no surprise and it’s safe to say that Korean influence coming to the international stage straight from Seoul is here to stay.
Korean culture thrives in bringing out deep soulful expressions of creativity is felt strongly, since innovation and creativity in fashion shouldn’t just be a wave, and it becomes precedent for future artists, Concept Korea aims to give an opportunity to raising designers aiming to leave a mark. Although the lines presented by Concept Korea had their set differences, both shared one common ground: presenting Korean influence with its flow, colors, cuts, and layers on the runway.
Concept Korea as a collaborative project to promote Korean fashion designers and assist them in their attempt to break into the U.S. fashion market is a huge undertaking that is doing very well. Having started in 2010 and still not only be functioning but actually returning each consecutive year speaks volumes of the work being done behind the scenes, not only at show time but way before then. May they keep up the great work and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for future shows.
