highlights from new matthew podcast episode:
talked about going to lots of weddings this summer and how he isnt keen that people video them partying, esp brady bc he thinks there's this idea he's more wild than he is lol
he talked about social media and how you have to be aware as an athlete you could be being filmed at any moment. basically just talking about how he always tries to be on his best behaviour when he goes out
he talked about keith calling the panthers soft - said he was pissed off more in a 'like really?' sense because of the timing but said the team was super cool with it (in july monty said they chirped him about it lol)
BIG praise for paul and bill on giving him what he needs to succeed but always having clear expectations. said paul likes to give it to him when he gets into shoving matches
the hosts asked him about monty's 'if we dont score with an extra attacker at the end of a game it's a melee' quotes and he just went 'obviously, you've got an extra guy' lmfao
he talked about growing the game and he said the teams do an amazing job but the league doesnt. said a lot of guys dont like the cameras and mics 24/7 in the league but he doesnt mind it. his issue was that things like the nocek 'shes a fucking whore' incident go viral and not the nice things that happen (matthew . what does that even mean).
he would star in a hockey version of the quarterback (netflix docuseries)
talked a lot about how he loves his family and friends and people are always visiting him which makes him really happy
and of course, he said barky is the same level talent as makar, mcdavid, matthews and that hes the chillest guy matthew's ever met. he was very complimentary as normal.
said he likes the 'brady's better' chance in ottawa because they remind him of high school hockey and he thinks it makes the game more fun
#matthew tkachuk#cam and strick podcast#it was not as much as painful a listen as chiclets if u want a review#not great tho#they kept telling him to take his shirt off lmao#nhl#flapanthers#mtk

Interview with Paul Maurice starts around 1h 32ms. Things I found interesting. ALL PARAPHRASING, NO QUOTES.
The way he talks about coaching at 28, how badly prepared he was, how he is so thankful for Jim Rutherford for giving him chance/s & firing his twice (LOLs).
And his comments about his philosophy in coaching, how players shape the coach. He just sounds so respectable of his players, like ACTUALLY thinking of them as people with incredible skills, but people who have to deal with shit in RL too. Like, dudes, his way with words is truly amazing. I wish he would write a book.
His blood pressure going through the roof in Toronto and him losing his shit. How he would not have survived another day like that (jokingly).
His journey through the Cup Final. How after Game 3 he felt so high emotionally that he COULDN'T sleep and was just full of energy.
I CRIED at the way POMO talked about wanting Winnipeg to win. How the owners, the city, and the whole community are trying to get it right. The way the owners truly cared. JUST BEAUTIFUL.
The Tkachuks - great family, Keith helped/helps a lot of ppl out, i.e. Staff in financial troubles that HE DOESN'T advertise about. And the whole family is like that (Brady got mentioned). Hated Matthew LOLS, but was won over by how great a guy he is.
Sam Reinhart is apparently super smart about seeing the game. POMO would ask him on things that he misses etc.
Barkov - have NO ego, doesn't cheat, will put the game/team before himself.
HOW MUCH RESPECT he has for Geno bcos the man works so fucking hard behind the scenes. How his stint in Russia as a coach was one of the best professional experiences he ever had, how it gave him more understanding about the Russian players etc.
Oh. I almost forgot, him telling Bill Zito last year that Bill would need to fire him if the Panthers don't make it. Bcos he has asked all he could of the guys (paraphrasing here), and there was only so much you could change/do etc.
SORRY IF I GOT ANYTHING WRONG. But you should be LISTENING to this. It is honestly one of the best interviews I have ever listened to. Funny, insightful and just kind.

Do you know anything about how/when Matthew was given the A when he went to the panthers?
i don't really remember if the panthers ever made an official announcement about it, and he didn't have it in the couple pre season games he played the first season, but he had it for the first game.
but in his last cam & strick podcast appearance he said (1:22:08) "I went down there, and I was like 'this is your guys, you guys have had success, like I'll fall in line' and that's not what they wanted. I had guys like, you know barky and ekky, and patric hornqvist and all these guys who wanted me to step into that leadership role with them. They made it so easy for me and wanted me to maybe even be uncomfortable in the sense of leadership and style of play and everything and have guys follow." so it definitely seems like he was going to be an A pretty much the moment he got traded there
#matthew ask#matthew thinking he was going to just fall in line and let the guys run their own ship then being pulled into the leadership core#is SO important to meeeeee

for my fellow martin st-louis enjoyers, i have compiled a list of every podcast episode available on spotify that i've found so far. most of them are actually interviews with him but a few are just talking ABOUT him. unfortunately some of them are on spittin chiclets, so if you don't want to listen to those, i've marked them clearly. however i will say that the last spittin chiclets episode he did has an anecdote that has made me probably more insane than i have ever felt (it's the one about vinny losing his mind if someone would hit marty). i'll update this if i ever find more.
spittin chiclets, september 2017
the hockey think tank podcast, august 2019
the cam & strick podcast, september 2020
hockey iq podcast, february 2021
32 thoughts, april 2022
32 thoughts, april 2022 again
raw knuckles, may 2022
the way of champions, july 2022
spittin chiclets, may 2023
missin curfew, march 2024 (this is the former bolts GM)

listened to matty's interview on the cam & strick podcast the other day while commuting and if you've been hesitating bc you can't stand doofus hockeymen blabbering but rly love matthew tkachuk, listen to it. he talks a lot a lot WAY more than the interviewers and i was pleasantly surprised-- which is so not the case with spittin chiclets podcast. biz & whit fuckin love the sound of their own voices telling their misogynistic glory tales while cutting off their guests. not to say c&s weren't🙄 but still listenable!
my biggest takeaway from Matthew's interview was how much he is so so soooo ready to, prepared to, has a sensible head for being the face of the nhl to promote the ever lovin fuck outta it, take it to the next level. But the nhl remains garbage league as per usual.
i was especially endeared by how this american boy (half canadian!! I wonder if the 3 kids have dual citizenships...? would make it easier for them to live and work here I'd think.) who (paraphrasing) has found his own personal paradise now living and working in florida said (paraphrasing) "every player should play in canada, on a canadian team, at some point. there's nothing like it" thank you, matty💕 and ty brady for fuckin loving it here.
the talent drain of players to markets where they can live anonymously off the ice is a heartbreak hockey fans don't talk about v much (I'm still really heartbroken about losing ror & schenn to the preds ok!! their vibes, skills, passion and leadership were exactly what our boys needed) ig we just shrug & accept it bc you can't force ppl to enjoy the spotlight and write it off as oh they like the tax breaks🙄 ofc every canadian market player talks about "the pressure"... which ok someone pls explain. Is that not part of competing. Ok fine fine can't force any situation on anyone
Sigh. Idk maybe I'm just having my omg the season is so close am i ready blues. Feelin off about wtf the Leafs vibes are gonna be. I've been ostrich head in sand about my feelings since that discombobulating first week of free agency and i don't think I'll be settled until we get to the reg season. Pls if you're hyped abt the Leafs season don't let me drag u down!!! I am rly excited about the avs, oilers, sens, flames, pens. and yooo let's see caufield hit his stride again. Hopefully this season isn't too long of a recovery period post surgery

A few of the highlights
After he threw the pitch in the Marlins game in Miami which he was still recovering from a shoulder injury (right after he got traded) he went into his back yard and and practiced and threw 5 pitches to prepare but he's much healthier than two years ago.
Some talk on Jayson Tatum and how he makes 6 times as much as him and he always knew he was destined for the big time in the NBA and he was always a stud.
They always talked as kids about making the nba and nhl respectively.
The video was technology class in 7th grade before high school.
His dad wanted to go with him to the baseball pitch and his mum was out of town.
He loved hanging out with jayson and catching up for a few hours.
He talked about Sherwood in 2020 he tried a few brands, he helped with the design process and was their first hockey player since their rebrand.
He talked going to Raising Cains, he was partying and going to eleven and without sleep and he had agreed to do things prior to the final. He talked about all the opportunities to do extra signings and things.
He decided to a interview with sports net and decide to give a shout out, he loves the people in Calgary and hates the people in Edmonton and he got family in Winapeg including his Grandpa.
He was excited to play in the charity golf tournament, he loves Charles Barkely and playing with TJ Oshie and the Kelcie brothers were cool.
And how he ended up singing We Are The Champions with Charles Barkley.
He was excited to meet the different people from the different sports.
He got engaged on the Thursday before game 1 in the playoffs and flew in his parents and fiancé's parents had a big celebration then went no booze for the whole playoffs and plans to do that again.
His special memories of the playoffs were the off ice stuff playing poker the comradeship with the guys.
He's sad the teammates that left but excited they got the offersheet and got paid and set for life and is excited to see them for dinner when they see them.
He was pissed after game 5 because he didn't want to go to Edmonton but he was so confident ahead of game 7 he wanted to do it for his family that got him there, he talked how his dad and Brady walked him to his car and wanted to do it especially for them.
He drives to the arena on his own he goes early getting there 4 hours early. Sam Bennet got a mention for liking to sleep and goes much later.
How incredible the emotions of his family and being the first tkachuk to win the cup,
Bringing his dad into the lockeroom was what it meant to him and his whole family.
Singing Brady praises for being so supportive and believes Brady will win it, he's too good not to, he's built for the play offs, and wants to be there when he does.
Literally everybody from Calgary reached out to him after the cup win even Darrell (Sutter).
Praising his old youth team London Knights and what they did for him and other players.
He heard from players he heard from or know and Robbie Thomas and people that won before Vllady got a special mentions he was a great veteran presence and okie too.
He talked the Paternark fight, and how it happened and Monty's involvement. He says there's no rules just beat the shit out of each other.
He'll never forget this year for the rest of his life.
He confirmed Brady did not touch the cup though there were a few close calls due to being drunk.
He says he's so much better health than this time last year, he's excited about this year.
He his fiancee and Brady are going to visit Taryn this Friday he says she won't listen to his interview so it won't ruin the surprise and talks how good she is a field hockey. Her preseason has started.
He loves to watch Barky in practice and is learning to do things and a special mention of Kucherov of Tampa one of his favorite players.
He wants to improve scoring from further out like Brady.
He's getting more recognised now but it's good and he's enjoying it.
He's being working on jumps, working on his skating, sprints and being strong weights but jumps.
He got in trouble for putting the cup in the ocean but the cup caretakers only told him afterwards but they understood but he got great memories.
The whole family sacrifices so much for hockey players and the Tkachuk name is on the cup forever it's forever.

For more info giving more proof to my earlier post about Gibby's statement and his agent, he went on The Cam and Strick Podcast this morning to talk about his status with the Ducks. It sounds like things are still very amicable between Gibby and the Ducks. For more info, as well as a transcript of the statement, here's the tweet from both @/CamandStrick and @/Derek_Lee27
So it sounds like even though he does not know if a trade may or may not happen (which is still valid and we'll play it by ear), the statement of anger reported by Frank Seravalli was, in fact, false. Both Gibby and his agent have now shown that the relationship is still good. I am choosing to stick by the actual people involved in this rather than an external source, but do with this information what you will.
As for a trade, we will still wait and see. Things could still happen. I'm choosing to be okay with whatever happens, as sad as it could be, because at least now we know, from John Gibson's mouth, that his relationship with the Ducks and the community is still good. And to me, that's all that really matters.

The interview starts around 1h 40 mins. Gods, Matthew Tkachuk is just so fucking charming. He is just so damn respectful of players, the fans and all the staff. I'm honestly just glad he is, "ten times better" than he was last year around the same time due to injury.
I love the insight of his hockey, that he considers himself a playmaker at heart, and that he sees things before they happen (hockey play wise), but he can't necessarily react fast enough. He wants to be better, and is doing a tonne of jumps, ALL the jumps during offseason. LOLs.
He loves the Blues goalie who he trained with. I love Matthew's love of goalies.
There's SOO much good content here, and he looks so good.

hey! english is not my first language and matthew said something in ep 6 that i really don't get? can you explain it to me? he's speaking to the players in the locker room before game 7 v edmonton and he said "you fucking put me in that locker room last year in vegas, game 5. you tell me you have a fucking game 7 at home?"
ik he was referencing his injury last year that put him out of commission for game 5 but other than that i don't get the second part??? lmaooo
Yeah, he said something similar in an interview either before or after game 7, where he expanded on that a little more and he was saying, if you'd told us in that locker room after the game 5 loss in vegas that'd we'd be guaranteed to be back next year playing a game 7 at home we all would've taken that deal
UPDATE: he actually said this in his cam & strick podcast
#matthew ask#ty miriam for coming through with the source#i time stamped the link but just in case it doesn't work it's at 2:08:16

Not really tea but he did confirm on the cam and strick podcast they got engaged on the Thursday before the playoffs. Said he flew their parents in and that they drank a lot that night and went to dinner and Elbo Room. Apparently he didn’t drink at all during the playoffs.
smart for not drinking.

Colton Parayko on The Cam and Strick podcast
Still drives the Dodge Dakota that he's had since he was 16 when he's back home
Stays in his parents' basement suite when he's visiting and sleeps in his childhood bed
C&S: Can you fit in that? CP: "I'm good. I just curl up in there and good to go."
His mom is a badass, she's a nurse in the heart operating room
"I'm the worst with cuts and wounds ... I gotta look away."
Retells the story where Tyson Fury shoves David Perron into a pool with the Stanley cup when they were in Vegas
C&S: "Were you guys like Schwartzy can you handle this? Schwartzy go beat him up?" Colton (joking): "We send over the big guns."
First big splurge was a GMC Yukon
Would go to dirt bike races on the weekends with his dad and brother, says the best he placed was 3rd (his brother was better at it)
Says that taking two classes during playoffs was the best thing for him his rookie year (actually looked forward to going home and doing homework); Panger was the one who found out he was juggling school and hockey when Colton forgot his computer during an away game and had to take a test in the hotel lobby
Closest with Scandy right now, they chat about cars a lot; Marco has a few Porsches and Ferraris (was the one steering Colton towards Porsches -- he got a 911 GT3 and is a good boy who always drives the speed limit)
Tries to get where he's going without drawing too much attention to himself
"I just bow my head trying to get to wherever I'm going. I'm just socially awkward"
Some of the people he's closest with and trusts are older; gets invited to weekend Jewish dinners with a family he knows
Latest interest is space, believes there to be some extraterrestial life out there (not necessarily aliens)
Growing up he would snowboard, can't right now "I just try to be smart"
Asked if he is a good cook "I think I am. People tell me I am." Cooks chicken wings for the boys, makes a good reverse seared steak, cedar plank salmon
On his style of play "I just like to get the puck, jump up in the play and move the puck ... You don't have to be mean or tough to play against. If I win my battles I don't need to touch anyone."
Races remote control cars, hasn't competed yet but plans to next summer and has 4 different cars
Collects hotwheels and used to trade Pokemon cards when he was a kid
Favorite road cities are Vancouver (Western Canada) and Vegas; least favorite are Ottawa, Winnipeg, Newark since there is nothing to do
#st louis blues#colton parayko#stl blues#my favorite nerd 🥰#this was a fun podcast#definitely recommend listening to it in full#starts around 1:18:00 ish

Matthew Tkachuk on the The Cam & Strick Podcast
Matthew appears at the 1.38 mark
On this episode the boys are joined by for the THIRD time (but first as a Stanley cup champion) Matthew Tkachuk. He joins the show after lifting the first ever cup won for the Frorida Panthers and being an absolute shit kicker while doing it. He talks about fighting David Pastrnak, shouting out Calgary after beating Edmonton, the insane cup parade and much more. Before the interview the boys get into Lou Lamoriello controversy, what a qualifies a draft bust, plus much more.
