there are a lot of viewpoints in between “anything other than bottling up your feelings is traumadumping” and “your friends aren’t allowed to set boundaries around venting and the sharing of certain information”

like. when I say that some people have started to treat any amount of venting as a traumadump, and that this has negative impacts on relationships…. that doesn’t mean every conversation topic is always up for grabs in all settings. and I don’t know why some people feel the need to jump from one extreme to the other

there are no real rules for these things, because every relationship is different, but. if you feel like things are one-sided, then talk to the other person about it. if you need to set a boundary, then do that, but don’t be an unnecessary level of arsehole about it. but ALSO you have to be aware that the point of connecting with other humans is to be able to support each other in good and in bad times, and it’s going to be hard to maintain those deep connections if you shut down every single emotion-based conversation
