I saw someone on Twitter make a great point in response to Emma’s statement on Korbin Albert. They said something along the lines of “if she would have made negative comments about someone’s ethnicity, she would never have been supported by Emma and US Soccer the same way” and I think that is a perfect point. It’s insane that we STILL are seeing acceptance of homophobia because it’s “just an opinion.” I agree with Emma that people should be allowed to grow and learn; sure I think everyone is capable of change, especially young people. But I don’t think she should’ve been brought back to the team until she actually does that. People say to keep politics out of sports, but sexuality and gender identity aren’t fucking politics. I hope she really is learning and growing as a person.
