On one hand, I want a final fantasy 6 remake, because the game is criminally underrated and the amount of fan content (which is all absolutely fantastic btw) is Not Enough for my neurodivergent, hyperfixating brain.
On the other hand, that would inevitably encourage more people to join the fandom, which would be great, except it seems these days the bigger a fandom gets the more toxic it becomes, and I really like what we have going on over here in our little corner. We all just love the game and its characters and nobody fights about who should and shouldn't date who or who you shouldn't like because they're ~problematique~. Nobody's trying to make one ship morally better than another, nobody's calling anyone names or threatening to doxx people who don't agree with their opinions. It's so peaceful and I love that for us. We're just vibing. Moisturized. Unbothered. In our lane. Flourishing.
#as someone who was in an extremely toxic and chaotic fandom and lowkey still traumatized#to the point where I'm afraid to mention which fandom it was/what my ship was#i have to say#i genuinely love it here#i was nervous at first sharing my ships and headcanons but everyone is so chill i was worried for nothing#thank you to everyone I've interacted with who has made this fandom a healing experience for me#i shudder to think about what some of the people i interacted with in a previous fandom would do with ff6#probably would take edgar's flirting at face value and call him problematic for objectifying women#instead of considering the narrative and what we know about him and the way he actually treats women#my man drinks loving and respecting women juice he's not a creep#or that weird moment with relm that admittedly made me double take before i realized what he meant#theyd have a whole campaign against him lmfao#bc those people boil characters alive until they're just a formless pile of tropes and stereotypes#and seem to disregard all positive aspects of a character they don't like which is fine#but then they go and try to force other people to think like they do and ugh#theres a lot of silly moments in the game and aspects of these characters that make them well rounded and realistically flawed at times#and i fear that would get lost in the chaos if the floodgates opened after a remake#maybe im just jaded lmao#im jaded and i have anxiety so im always thinking about The Worst Case Scenario#the collective positive spirit of the dwellers in this fandom might actually foster a positive space if more people were to come in#ff6#my post#i was gonna say maybe this is bc we're mostly adults#but that falls flat when i remember how some of the most toxic and immature people in some fandoms are grown ass adults#who bully each other and younger fans#and some of the most mature and cool people were actually younger#maybe ff6 fans are just built different lmao#also idk how old anyone else actually is there might be teenagers here i just don't think about it a lot

#lately i've been going to twitter to get some lunter action bc most fanartists are there#and god it's just so annoying that over there they're stuck in a 5 day cycle of the same discourse over and over again#is it okay to ship this or is this a dirty nasty morally questionable proship? uwu#then the realization is 'yes lunter actually isn't a disgusting perverted proship which makes it okay to exists even if i HATE it'#and then two days later someone is like um akshually it's disgusting because incest and here we fucking go again#god. we need to extirp anyone under 16 years old from the internet. you have not developed enough brain matter to be on social media#(now if you're an adult unironically arguing in that discourse you either have a lot of free time or i just need to block you)#but man. like i wanna say to those lunter defenders..... can't you see what's wrong?#can't you see that the moment you've chosen to accept the premise of there being 'good' and 'reproachable' ships you've already lost?#that someone will always be able to pick a 'problematic' aspect in any ship ever?#that entertaining that idea from the beginning is the absolute worst thing you could do?#like i prefer when people call lunter boring. okay yeah i do Not see what you're seeing but also#thank fucking GOD we're bringing up actually relevant stuff here#like part of me is so fascinated about this. how murder seems to be the only thing that's accepted in media as a narrative tool#(and at some extent even that is too much)#but this yet again goes back to..... well what the fuck do you interact with fiction and media in the first place#when you're COMPLETELY unwilling to acknowledge any of these things as FICTION (not real) in the first place?#where your favorite character is the most morally correct and your favorite ship is the 'healthiest'?#i just wish we were able to talk about who the characters are and what their dynamic means in the show you know#instead of recycling the same reasons why it's morally 'okay' to be interested in them over and over and over and over and over and over and

hey i'm new to your page and as a fellow zhongchi shipper im curious about your opinion on people calling zhongchi a illegal ship because of the "age gap"
sorry to bother if you're already answered that question in the past
this is the first time i hear of such people calling it that and its the dumbest thing i ever heard, it can only come from people on tiktok or twitter
i also dont mean any harm anon, no worries, but this is the 2nd time someone brings discourse etc from other sites in my inbox to ask my opinion on it and its always really dumb minor shit by people who need a reason to hate on others ships that i dont even wanna comment on it. i like to keep my blog free from discourse or stuff like this and dont really do opinions/thoughts on ppl who come up with dumb reasons to hate on others ships. its not really worth my time
lets just have a fun time here ☆ and welcome, new anon!

I always see people who have never been antis, talking about/questioning how some antis even ARE antis when you look at their taste in media - ie the ever famous joke of "Hannigram is #problematique" "but it's a show where he eats people" or whatever.
I thought I'd weigh in as someone who could, hypothetically, be called an ex-anti (which, thankfully, nothing ever really came out of it - it was just very 2014 keyboardwarrior-esque behavior of me being a chronically online young adult who would share posts in a group chat making fun of certain shippers, or reblog posts about how 50shades is The Most Problematic Media Ever to exist -- basically I was an anti with anti-lines of thoughts, but i never, like, a ran a Shipping Discourse Blog or whatever)
For me, personally, it was a few different things. I can now see how it's incredibly hypocritical that teenaged me shipped Light/L, while still thinking that Dramione was Bad And Abusive. It ultimately boiled down to a) being pretentious, and b) just not understanding media or what proshippers REALLY believed, with a side of c) not realizing that nuance exists. like i was pretty late to join tumblr, I think I immigrated here during PEAK "yourfaveisproblematic" era which definitely did have an impact on my opinions and my tastes.
to elaborate, a.) being pretentious. i mean this one just kinda goes without saying. "I engage in media in a way more intellectual way than you do, don't you know that? You're a filthy and disgusting person who writes Snape/Hermione because you're an actually disgusting pedophile IRL who would probably date your own student that you're abusing if you could. Meanwhile, I'm a very smart, good, and pure person. When I read Uncle Vernon/Harry, I'm doing it in a G-d honoring whump way that clearly condemns abuse, incest, and rape. Unlike YOU who only writes harmful stuff as a way to get people off :/"
(as an aside, i think this line of thinking will ALWAYS be present in fandom and popculture in some way, sadly. ie the recent trend of people hating on booktok bc the books are 'trashy' and how these porn addicts should read real classic literature instead.)
as for b.), not understanding media - i cannot emphasize enough that i was GENUINELY stupid and disconnected enough to think that proshippers REALLY WERE pro-All Of The Degenerate Dead Doves That They Wrote.
why did i feel this way? why did i understand that Lolita clearly isnt pro-pedophilia, but for some reason i thought that someone shipping weecest was? well, first of all, i think that fanfiction is (generally) seen as Less Serious than classic literature, and fandom is a fun place, so i guess i somehow thought that every fanfic/fanartist who wrote Problematic Things, especially Problematic Things that they portrayed as Sexy, really DID enjoy the thought of that Actually Happening To Real People.
and i think THIS is the bulk of why antis ARE antis. i'm not calling them all stupid - i do think BEING an anti is stupid, but at the same time, there are people who are truly smart and good-intended people who just have some really off color opinions about, like, homestuck ships or whatever. Lawlight is okay because notebooks that kill people don't exist so it's IMPOSSIBLE for the Harmful Aspects of Light/L to be romanticized! but schoolyard prejudiced bullies DO exist and are a REAL problem so Drarry is BAD (*truly completely unaware of the fact that there's 'realistic' aspects of the Light/L dynamic and 'unrealistic' aspects of Drarry - such as, for example, Hogwarts arguably being even MORE of a fantasy setting than DN is.*) I know that media literacy is the hot buzzword of the year to throw around in 2024, but, like, i really did not have media literacy.
as for c.), not realizing nuance exists - ok "nuance" might not be the best word here, but i dont know how else to describe it. like, each time ive typed the word "problematic" out in this ask, i've done so in a very tongue in cheek/ironic/retroactive way, but, like, those posts about how Everything Is Problematic, Including Your Fave ARE true. and i didn't like the fact that my favorite media or favorite person might've Made A Mistake! i need to Talk About Its Issues Because I'm So Betrayed That My Dear Sweet Comfort Media Would Do This To Me. I Need To Prove I Clearly Condemn It.
like, i legit morally could not justify reblogging a twilight post without adding in the tags '#this is my guilty pleasure it sucks that the books were so racist though' or whatever. Most people were lucky enough to avoid that line of thinking, but there was an actual group of people who felt a genuine need to virtue signal all the time, partly bc, hey, they WERE passionate about talking abt #issues in media, but also bc of a subconscious fear of If You Reblog A Singular Piece Of Hetalia Fanart, You're Literally A Nazi And Will Get A Callout Post Written About You.
and during all of this i was at the tail end of my high school experience (yes i know im younger than most of your audience, ha). i was going through A Lot emotionally, going through a lot of life changes, and lived in a very . . . interesting household/place where i couldn't do ACTUAL good in the world that i was passionate about. so to make up for the fact that i was genuinely in no place to do legit activism, clearly i had to save the gay community by arguing about johnlock queerbaiting or whatever.
^ and honestly i do think that is the position of most antis. theyre isolated and cant seem to do Enough in the Real Scary World so they have to resort to talking about how bad of a person someone is for "shipping abuse", bc theyre not in a situation where they could, for example, ACTUALLY fight the good fight to end abuse or raise awareness for it.
There was way more to it and way more that I could say, if I wanted to, but this post is long enough as it is and probably doesn't make much sense.
I feel bad for antis, honestly, or at least the ones who are antis in the way I used to be.
--
Oh yes, passionate young fools who think they can at least fix the internet if not their lives make up most of the cannon fodder. Some of the ringleaders are just mini dictators and wannabe cult leaders, but most anti-leaning types are just traumatized or clueless, even a lot of the ones who do serious damage and don't just mock shit in private with their friends.

no bc the voltron fandom was so funny for calling a ship between two legal adults who are not related "pedophilic and incestuous". like i cannot stress enough how much shiro and keith are 1) adults and 2) not related. it was literally just fanon that got popular and then people got mad at you because according to their fanon you were problematic 😭

I've said this before like multiple times but pro/anti-shipping discourse is exhausting.
Like first of all FUCK proshippers, I'd never call myself a pro-shipper because their end-all be-all is ALWAYS, WITHOUT FAIL, CHILD RAPE FANTASY. WHY. Why are they so into kids??? That's ALWAYS the main thing you see them defending!!
But at the same time I don't feel comfortable calling myself an "anti" or a "proud anti" because generally yeah, I hate proshippers and they're gross, but you see Antis on here like "You're a pedophile if you have an Ao3 account even if you don't make pedophilic content bc SOME AO3 users do (???)" or "Absolutely all content should be child-friendly or banned from the Internet completely (fuck that???)" or "absolutely all fictional portrayals have to be 100% unproblematic, as much so as IRL relationships. Any amount of conflict to drive the plot is not acceptable" or "If you are into/write about any kink, even if it is portrayed as consensual and safe, you are actually a disgusting abuser. All sex should be vanilla missionary (just kidding sex shouldn't exist at all)." Like ??
Like a lot of Antis wouldn't even tolerate that I ship Goldenheart because they have a problematic/violent backstory. I've SEEN antis who think Goldenheart is unacceptable and they lump ships like that together with ships that are literal pedophilia. Like HELLO???
So basically, where do I draw the line? I don't care if a fictional relationship is problematic as long as
1- the characters portrayed are ADULTS (and no grooming was involved before one of them was an adult)
2- the characters portrayed CONSENT to any romanticized situation.
3-I do not mind portrayals of abuse (childhood or adult) IF they are portrayed as evil, disgusting, and wrong, and NOT sexualized or romanticized for audience gratification and are not tagged inappropriately
That's it. I don't mind consensual kink, I don't care about power dynamics or age gaps between ADULTS as long as there isn't manipulation involved, I don't mind a backstory with way more conflict than the average IRL healthy relationship would have, and I don't mind stories which explore dark topics such as abuse/SA in a realistic and respectful way that isn't portrayed as "hot" or "cute" 🤮 At the same time, I think that to pretend that getting off on fictional people ESPECIALLY fictional children being abused doesn't have real world consequences is fundamentally and intentionally dishonest.
Idea for a new word. Not pro-shipping, not anti-shipping, norm-shipping. I'm a norm-shipper. I.e. a NORMAL FUCKING PERSON who is okay with fantasy stretching further than reality but also recognizes that it's not okay to wanna FUCK KIDS.
Norm-shippers unite.

It is very concerning to me that ppl in the supernatural fandom r just now (barely) starting to recognize the racism in show. Like the show is very deeply seeped in white supremacy in a way that was very obvious to me when i first watched it at 11. Like I used to be very confused when ppl talked abt Supernatural as a progressive show??? I used to joke with my friends in highschool calling it whitesupremacistnatural bcuz that it is literally the show. White supremacy is so baked into the show and its ingrained into the foundations of the fictional world that Supernatural takes place in. I really cannot take white fans of the show in particular seriously bcuz i feel like if u cannot recognize the incredibly blantant racism in Supernatural i do not really trust any analysis of the show that u make. The only reason I can think of as to why so many fans are unable to recognize the racism in the show is bcuz just abt every scifi/fantasy show from this period had similar issues to varying degrees (although i do think that Supernatural is one of the most unabashed abt it). Like once you pull back the disguise of fantasy Supernatural is just another The Birth of a Nation esque tale that romanticizes white heroes defending the "real" humans from the dark races who cant help being born evil but must be eliminated anyway. Its incredibly unsubtle to a point that often made the show difficult for me to watch especially the longer it went on and the older that i got. That being said I still watched 14 seasons of Supernatural. I love the show and talk abt it constantly bcuz (surprise surprise) it is possible to enjoy a show while still acknowledging the ways that it is deeply problematic. I dont think its a coincidence that ppl r just starting to acknowledge the racism now (nearly 4 years after it ended). I think someone could write multiple dissertations abt the racism and white supremacist undertones in Supernatural bcuz there is so much of it and it appears in so many varying ways.
I don’t have much to add to this just letting you know that I feel you!!! literally hilarious to call this show “progressive” lmaooo like sure maybe in the same way that a corporate pride tweet made by a company with notoriously unethical business practices is “progressive” <3
show created primarily by white men for other white men that ended up attracting a massive white queer audience that was all too happy to gloss over the loudest and ugliest parts of the canon: blatantly racist central concept of Good vs Evil, dean being blatantly abusive to sam for the majority of their relationship, irresponsible casting choices wrt antagonists like Gordon and Raphael and s13!Michael as well as the disposable henchmen/extras who were far too often portrayed by black and brown men and women considering the glaring shortage of black and brown “good guys” in this story, truckloads of blatantly homophobic and misogynistic jokes that were supposed to be viewed as charming, and so on.
no need to unpack any of that though! talking abt that stuff gets you labelled a hater. keep walking on eggshells around the majority of the fandom and tagging discussion of dean’s canon actions as “anti dean” and critical discussion of the show’s super unsubtle roots as “negativity”
as long as the white queer audience got their goddamn d*stiel crumbs they were satisfied lol. and fuck sam - the ONLY part of this thing that makes it worthwhile to watch all the way through as an adult bc characters like him are genuinely so so rare - bc he gets in the way of their generic white gay ship that’s built on flavorless scraps and wild conjecture. as always this website’s user base has impeccable taste and commendable analytical skills!
disclaimer: I genuinely don’t think I would personally change much abt spn textually speaking because AS IT IS it makes for a truly sickening narrative with brain-rotting layers that its creators could have never pulled off intentionally. this isn’t me saying none of the horror was intentional but that a decent chunk of it obviously wasn’t and that the Final Combination could’ve only come of the too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen white american ignorance egotistical power-tripping (the latter on the part of, say, jensen) that resulted from this show being on the air for far longer than it should’ve been.

I find it weird how so many in the GG fandom love Nate but hate Chuck. I'm not a fan of either, but I don't find any of the main characters likable enough, though they're entertaining but I don't understand their logic. Nate made numerous comments that were questionable throughout the show and enabled and defended Chuck's mistakes and in season 6 he dates and sleeps with a teen as a grown man with a business. If he looked unattractive I'm sure people would criticize him more for it but he's charming enough for them to hypocritically sweep it under a rug. Nate told the police they couldn't talk to Sage because she's a minor and also complained on a date with her about it being too high school for him. He also made a weird comment trying to convince someone to go to a party because there would be grown women dressed like schoolgirls there among other comments. Chuck isn't better than him and Nate is more likable most of the show, but while Chuck's misdeeds weren't handled realistically enough it was acknowledged to some extent while Nate's was swept under a rug in the show. Nate sleeping with a minor was treated like a rich people thing since when he told his grandpa a grown woman was sleeping with him as a teen his grandpa talked of it as normal while Rufus who wasn't rich had a critical reaction to an adult sleeping with Dan as a teen. Miss Carr wasn't rich enough to walk away without backlash, so fans reinforcing the lack of backlash Nate got in the show and hypocritically being woke in Chuck's case to harass real people over a serious issue for stan wars sickens me. I don't even ship Chair and I find it disturbing and disrespectful to people who deal with shit in real life. It feel like they don't really care about the issue they're preaching about. Also most will go on about Blair being mistreated because of ship wars and stan Blair but will much lesser acknowledge the way she treated victims of abuse and slut shamed women as if they are less important because they aren't favorites. Her publicly outing Dan as Miss Carr's victim for her personal agenda was wrong and her doing things like making Eva out to be a prostitute less worthy of respect was distasteful. People judge others for enjoying Chuck's character and while Blair is more likable she was messed up and not someone most would get along with in real life. While I ship Dair I find it hypocritical how some Dair fans will unprovoked be self righteous about shipping them and say shit like they're less retarded than Chair fans while liking Blair who was messy and would likely not support abuse victims if it got in the way of her personal goals and would actively bully them instead. I confronted someone over this and they got offended over me calling them self righteous even though they were offensive first, accusing me of not really shipping them. I hate how people have to act like their side of the fandom is perfect and judge others for what they like in fiction.
hi!! so truthfully after yesterday I wasn't entirely sure where this ask was going but I think I get ur point. obviously I just wanna reiterate that I'm a chair shipper but I agree that a lot of nate's behaviour is overlooked bc he's attractive. like u said there are extremely vocal chuck haters who love nate as if he hasn't done plenty of problematic things too. I think that to a certain degree some fans have a selective memory and are quick to list bad things 1 character has done but conveniently ignore or excuse another character for worse or equally bad behaviour. ultimately for me gossip girl is a show about "bad" people so the idea that they all have to be made to be likeable goes against their character, none of them are meant to be especially good or nice and there's nothing wrong with that. obviously it really depends on the individual, but I think this idea that dair is morally superior to chair is kinda ridiculous bc at the end of the day it's a 00s teen drama where all the characters are varying levels of "bad" and like u said it's hypocritical too

so here's the thing, your post didn't describe fiction affecting reality but manipulation from others or even grooming
you should know this: all ships are valid. Your 13 year old self did nothing wrong. Being manipulated / groomed into saying "I was wrong for liking a ship" is extremely worrying. Grooming also doesn't have to be sexual, it is essentially someone with power taking advantage of a vulnerable person (you) by posing themselves as their protector/mentor/whatever
other red flags to look out for are things like being told you "deserved to be mistreated because you gave into sin" and being praised if you "have given up that sin and thus changed for the better" because this is the kind of manipulation tactic you find in religious cults.
Here are some sources on how to spot grooming and the difference between an adult who means well and a predator
https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/what-is-grooming
https://safekidsthrive.org/the-report/introduction/other-warning-signs/
https://www.splcenter.org/peril-guide-online-youth-radicalization
and here is a safety PSA to spot grooming in fandom communities
http://web.archive.org/web/20240815114926/https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GTtAK2qWwAApG8c?format=png&name=4096x4096
If you are still friends with these kind of people, I suggest you take a long look at them and ask yourself if your relationship is healthy. Pro-tip: if they still control what you are/aren't allowed to like, if they tell you that you are a bad person because of your past/present fictional interests, then the relationship is unhealthy and these people can and will drop you the moment you don't act in the way they want you to
be safe
I made a quiz about my favorite ships. One of those was that proship. I had a comment one time that was like:
"totally agree with all of these except blank"
"oh why not?"
"well, they're brothers"
"not by blood, but okay"
And my day went on. Another time I went over to a friend's house (who is of the same age as me) to chat with her, and she didn't know anything about this media at all, so it was mostly just me gushing my love about it. She did however, know these two characters were siblings, and brought up concerns that it was weird to ship them. Again, I claimed it wasn't, we went on with our days
I started to realize that I was in the wrong when not only did I think about these two experiences, but I started watching more of the media itself, which clearly put them as brothers. That's not grooming, that's called growing from a kid bc kids often don't know what is right or wrong. They learn from it. It's natural to ship problematic things when you're younger bc you don't know it's problematic, and it's only through interacting with the media and other fans do you start learning. From what I've seen, most pro-shippers are never told no and are given content that reinforces their beliefs. They usually don't interact with the fandom or distance themselves from the piece until later. This makes them think that the ship is perfectly okay. Telling someone no is not grooming
Not all ships are valid if they reinforce toxic behaviors and/or mirror real-life problems. To be told that shipping siblings is bad is not grooming and I am astounded you actually think that. What the actual fuck

Thoughts on Ange x Ikuko?
i guess ange is the more common ikuko f/f pairing just by default... it doesn't interest me so much as a ship but i'm very interested in the idea of what they are to each other! (i ended up writing a lot so it's under the break for courtesy)
like the take on their relationship that's been most compelling to me is basically what i wrote in my fics, ikuko seeing her as this figure on the horizon of "someone else she could 'save'" in a borderline-dehumanizing way? in that world ikuko is motivated by her own fantasy of "what if i win over eva and reunite the siblings and have this little fucked-up family all to myself" etc, making tohya a pawn in that scheme, using eva's diary etc (which is where the ikuko x eva ship idea originally came from lol)... but she's never able to actually control ange bc ange is growing into her own woman (ironically in part bc of ikuko's interference in her life)... and ultimately has to give up bc it was just a fantasy.
more generally what i like to explore in ikuko is this kinda, selfish and controlling woman who is too aloof to fully respect the consequences of her actions even as she tries to think of herself as basically benevolent. it's very much influenced by my read of hanyuu manipulating rika, eua manipulating satoko etc? i like imagining a struggle between the "eua" and "hanyuu" sides of her, whether her relationships are just consequence-free entertainment, whether she *needs* someone to dote on (and control) for her gratification, or whether part of her actually wants to do what's good for people... dealing with someone sharp and scarred by life like eva -- or another hypothetical survivor mom -- breaks down her wall of affected superiority and forces her to confront that struggle, which means she also has to reckon with the ways she hurts the people she's convinced herself that she's helping; imo a lot of the more interesting critical reads i see of ikuko x tohya get at that too... so i def could see ange as an extreme example of that. like this smug & self-satisfied older woman getting with an extremely traumatized young adult whose life she's been directly & indirectly interfering in; the vibes are bad, mistakes are made, what are the consequences, how do they feel about it?? that could be interesting to me tho it doesn’t rly call to me as a writing project. or what if they're drawn to each other years later when ange is living as yukari, maybe more in control of her shit than ikuko is?? that actually is very interesting to me 🤔
idk i like thinking abt the ways that peoples' contradictions create general uhh misery in their interpersonal relationships, so if i ever explored them as a ship it'd be grimy and ugly and messy like that lol. tho ultimately i feel like getting with the ange of 1998 would just be beneath ikuko's station... and as to whether the ange of 1998 would gain her independence and immediately be wanting a Problematic Older Woman hookup >_> well i suppose i understand the appeal of the idea

Shipping younger woman, older guy is just more normalized. Kinda misogynistic, but true. (Also Sokka is like a year younger than Zuko, I think.)
Part of it is also, and sorry to say this, but echos of societal homophobia. Gay people were commonly associated with pedophiles as a way to fear monger. People presented them as men who prayed on young boys (bc, you know, lesbians didn't exist /joking based on the fact most queer fear mongering was about men and amab) and corrupted them.
People in general are just more likely to call pedophilia on a gay relationship than a straight one. In a different fandom I'm in, people call a ship pedophilia because they are determined that one of the characters is a minor.
Which is funny, considering in the source material, a whole adult woman shows very obvious interest in him. But that doesn't show up on their radar because adult women flirting with minor boys is okay to them I guess. Obviously the directors didn't intend for him to be a minor, but it's still the number one anti argument used for any gay ship he's put in, yet NEVER shows up when they're talking about him and the woman who canonically fawns over him.
(btw, he doesn't even read or really look like a minor, people freak out about it because the source material is inspired by a book series in which he is a minor for part of)
A fandom a friend of mine is in has a ship with two adult men that people will quote an age gap as reason it's problematic despite the canon relationship having a much larger age gap. But of course, the canon relationship is straight, so that's fine.
This is a wide spread problem.

Hi!! I just wanted to respond to your question if kyman is a proship or not.
I definitely don’t think it is, at least if we’re going on the “updated” definition. This newer definition that people think is “proship” is being ok with or even supporting minor x adult, incest, abuser and victim, and other illegal or immoral ships.
This doesn’t really apply to kyman because Cartman isn’t a nazi - and I’m glad you pointed out that you don’t think he is because it’s evident that the things he says and does is to get on Kyle’s nerves. (And also he’s stated that nazis are lame in SOT and Post-Covid literally proves he’s not a nazi or at least has the ability to mature and not be a bigot - along with when he was dressed as hitler it was Liane’s doing).
But if we’re going off the base definition of “pro ship” it’s someone who “supports romantic pairings that are deemed problematic, as well as supports creating fanworks of this nature.”
And literally so many ships could apply to this sooo😭
The definition has been tossed around so much that it’s not really clear what the current meaning is. But I think most people think pro shipping is the first definition mentioned - which as a kyman shipper - I definitely don’t agree with.
And as stated, kyman doesn’t really apply because Cartman isn’t a nazi. Obviously they fight a lot and go to the extremes, but this is also a comedy show. (And also it’s totally ok if you don’t like their dynamic or ship it - it’s just important to realize it’s not illegal.)
But anyways, I wouldn’t worry about pro shipping unless an artist literally draws or voices their acceptance of the aforementioned illegal and immoral things 💀💀
Sorry for this long response, I didn’t want to just direct message w/o warning
But I hope this helped a little!! And dw about responding to this if u don’t want to - I just wanted to explain some of the confusion around the term bc theres so much lol
Thank you so much!!! This is probably one of the best answers I have gotten, and explains a lot. (Also kyman is growing on me and the only reason I haven't shipped it is because I have been concerned about it being called a proship)
Also, of course I'm going to respond to this, this is one of the best explanations of proshipping and answers to my question that I have seen. Again, thank you so much!!!

I think you're literally the only person I've ever see show common sense regarding shipping and adult and kids. Like fr if I say it's wrong I get hit by barrage of it's fiction, it's not real, it's a coping mechanism, it's ship and let ship, pro shipping is valid. I see so many posts going round saying it's not ethical to criticise a fictional ship that's problematic because it's not real. But for example using Cegan faces via the actors is JDM and Chandler Riggs who is a child. Like I feel like I'm going insane sometimes. Also people who deliberately write incest or stuff like that because they are into it or are drawn to it like... I've had people say it's only fictional incest they're obsessed with. It's not like it's part of a plot like house of the dragon where it's also looked down on and hated in their fictional world. It's like people are writing it for their own gratification and that worries me. I wrote JDM x OC because I'm heavily into JDM and writing Negan is living vicariously. I project on to an adult oc. But to ship Cegan is to project you're sexually attracted to either children or the idea of an adult and kids together which is just hugely gross
Absolutely NO hate to this anon bc I fully agree but do want to both answer this ask and use it as a quick little PSA that I will no longer respond to shipping discourse on this blog. This will be the last one! I don’t want any of this drama to deter my followers and cloud their feeds. Henceforth this blog is Daryl fanfiction only! 💚 ((If you do want to talk about this feel free to use my other blog @crxss-bxw))
Anyways, yeah I fully agree. Writing adult x child content is incredibly sus and so is consuming it.
I like to assume (for my own mental health) that most of them are kids and they just have the hots for an adult character so they think it’s okay but the sad reality is that a lot of the people participating in these pedophilic ships are adults and it’s a form of grooming imo to put that sort of content out there and normalize it.
It desensitizes the reader to things like pedophilia (or in other cases incest or beastiality).
They can say “minors DNI” all day but that’s not gonna stop a minor from interacting.
They can call it a coping mechanism all day but if you’re a victim of CSA then you need therapy to help you learn real healthy coping mechanisms. You don’t need to seek out adult x child content that romanticizes the very behaviors that traumatized you in the first place. That is doing way more harm than good.
And the “it’s fictional” argument is flimsy and made of straw. Lolita was a work of fiction too, and the entire purpose of that story is to show how sick and twisted the mind of an individual who is attracted to children is. It wasn’t meant to be romanticized. Yet, here we are today, where people regularly romanticize it as if it’s a romance novel when it is indeed quite the opposite.
Not only that, but sites like ao3 literally exist for problematic ships to be posted without backlash, so why act surprised when people on a platform like this one express discomfort with things like pedophilia or incest within their fandoms???
And since you mentioned the actual actors behind the characters, it does feel incredibly harmful for a child actor or an adult actor to have their faces used for content that is literal pedophilia.
Anyways, thanks for the ask & if you wanna continue the conversation or talk about anything else feel free to pm or use the asks on @crxss-bxw. (That goes for anyone. If any of you ceganers show up in my inbox behind an anon on this blog I’m just gonna block u xoxoxo there’s literally nothing you could say to make me change my mind)

What was the funniest "this websites hatemail game is insane" moment you remember having Back In The Day™
hes a plethora almost all of these are from when i was like 13-15 and still posting homestuck so keep that in mind
- being called a misandrist by a grown adult when i was like 14 bc of homestuck discourse
- someone telling me that peridot is problematic aroace rep bc shes autism coded and when i pointed out the correlation between the two they said im ableist
- a bunch of terfs called me sexist for drawing transmasc buttercup
- the infamous Jade Hate Anon
- someone sent me a huge ramble about how a ship i liked was horribly abusive and toxic and then said that i should ship the two girls in question with two boys instead
- someone went out of their way to dm me about all the reasons they hated a ship i was posting at the time and i was like... what
- many many death threats to an early teen who posted girls kissing online
theres definitely more im forgetting but its all so ridiculous looking back on it

👬
send an emoji and i'll tell you my opinion on...
— 👬 shipping
• NGL, as a traumatized person I'm not a fan of problematic ships. They just make me sad and uneasy, sometimes it can be triggering. If you call stuff like selfcest (which isn't an existing thing IRL) and age gaps between consenting adults "problematic", you don't know what "problematic" means BTW.
You personally disliking a ship ≠ Problematic. Please don't spread harmful misinfo.
Also please don't harass people over ships.
• In RP. actually don't care about chem, if it works it works. I can ship something fast if it goes really smooth. However, I'm pretty selective & I have a MxM pref. I also like some FxF, I'm most picky with het ships. It doesn't mean I don't do them but… preferences… lol
• I prefer ships that have a more interesting dynamic. Like, small conflicts or the characters have some contrast or are similar and have goals. I dislike both overly ideal ships or overly toxic ships.
Though I admit that some ships I like make no sense and are just complete AU's lol.
• Ship "collectors" make me uncomfortable. I block OC accounts that give off those vibes. It's nothing personal; I'm simply not comfortable with it.
• That being said, I make exceptions of writers that are able to offer double ups bc I think it's only fair if you can offer OC x Canon in return.
• Probably a hot take but I'm just not keen with people who try to "un-gay" obviously queer-coded characters.
• I definitely have some favorite DB ships I have total brainrot for! 🥰
• I'm only multiship bc it's too hard to singleship. Most writers turn inactive after a while. 😔
I'd be totally up for singleshipping or something semi/limited. I like the idea of having more meaningful/dedicated ships!
I guess I'll put something like "main ship(s)" in OC bios.
• When I say shipping, I generally refer to romantic and or sexual ships. But I think platonic shipping is valid too, though.
• That being said; I'm actually most interested in roleplaying platonic bonds!

ur making sense but can u still elaborate
hi sorry i went to get food
but Basically if you go into the comment section of any post where there's discourse about polarizing topics, a display of something "weird" or "cringe" but ultimately harmless (or even something that is NOT that weird!!!!!), or even just a joke that is going over peoples' heads, you tend to see comments where people will act confused, shocked, or suspicious in a way that is just. playing stupid.
it's comments that are just "bro..." or "huh" or "🤨" or "😨" for no fucking reason. you see "umm..." commented under tiktoks of fat or disabled people showing off their outfits. you see "huh" commented under things where someone's talking about politics in more complicated terms. you see a bunch of "😨😨" commented under tumblr posts where someone makes a joke and then even EXPLAINS the joke in the notes or tags, but people dont look at it bc they just wanna act scandalized instead.
those are the ones that piss me off the most because they're so stupid!!! so useless!!! they're so vague because the person either doesnt know enough with substance to actually argue about anything, or is too much of a coward to make a direct insult, but they still gotta take up space Somehow. the most infuriating shit is when people comment that stuff on a video of an autistic person being ~weird~ and, when asked what they mean by it, just respond with more "😶" or whatever. its such a weird form of cyberbullying! how did the internet find a way to emulate getting stared at in the middle school hallway via comment sections!!
the judgment also comes in the form of suspicion made from Nothing. like back when i used tiktok (why did i do that to myself) i had people who were mad about me calling myself a lesbian go back to year-old posts where i made shipping jokes to comment "🤨" and shit like that. not even abt "problematic" ships or anything, just whatever they could possibly imply a problem into.
its like!! what do you want??? every time i see ppl say that shit i wanna just go "use your words :)" and often "use your Eyes :)))))" because they will freak out over stuff that they literally did not bother to look into for an explanation. they just wanna be spoonfed! its so stupid! instead of just scrolling or at least Arguing a Point they just decide "yknow how should i approach this thing i dont like or dont understand? imply like the subject is deranged/suspicious/creepy/weird in the most childish way possible!" and i cannot stress how banal some of the stuff is that gets FLOODED with comments like that. fat person in a swimsuit! adult woman in pastels! drawing with blood in it! art sculpture that doesn't look cutesy or minimalist! people dating with a 4 year age gap! politics that use big words!
and when they are using a comment that (miraculously) goes over 8 characters, its the kind of thing like "the way i almost had a heart attack 😰😰" like what do they want me to say!! ohhh are you a baby? are you a little baby?? did it scare you that bad??? do you need me to call an ambulance because you had to see a cringe person???? god forbid a cringe and maybe kinda horny or gay person???? maybe even one with unpopular opinions?????
