How is Maggie Stiefvater so good at writing tension & intimacy that turns into romance??

Like every scene with Declan and Jordan makes me feel alive.

And don’t get me started with Ronan & Adam, their scenes make me feel like I’ve ascended to the pearly gates.

Ok, finished Call Down the Hawk, here’s some thoughts and predictions I guess.

Bryde is like definitely the one who’s trying to start the apocalypse, and I’m pretty sure Nathan was working for him, but I do find him charming and I’m kind of excited to see Ronan and Hennessy get wrapped up in that. I do fully believe Farooq-Lane will leave the moderators at some point or at least help the main characters. Declan having mommy issues on top of his already established daddy issues just explains so much about him, and I’m guessing his mom’s also a dreamer and that’s why there’s a copy of his dad running around. Like maybe Niall and Mor made new more perfected versions of each other to handle a messy breakup or something. I’m truly hoping she’s a total bitch tbh, like a true match for Niall’s energy and that’s why they didn’t end up working out. Or maybe “Aunt and Uncle” are involved in that copy of Niall idk. Maybe he IS uncle? Also Jordan and Declan have a very compelling romance to me.

no, you don't understand, I LOVE Declan Lynch. In trc we see the duality of the way Ronan perceives him and the brother he actually is. But in cdth we get to actually see Declan. you don't understand, he was researching how to be a parent when he realized now he has to be one. he made Ronan have a routine because it's beneficial (and Ronan says he hates it, but you can see it's working). and he's taking care of Mathew, and yes, Mathew was created to love everyone, but also, it's so easy for him to genuinely love Declan. and he's the fake brother. and he never felt actually loved. and he's still doing all of it because he loves his brothers and can't fathom being a bad parental figure. You don't understand he's sacrificing his life, his prospects, his personality just so that his brothers are being as safe as possible. you don't understand, he's constantly being mistreated by his father (even after his death), people at work, his own brother for the dullness that he's keeping as a weapon for making them safe. you don't understand he's having all these emotions, and desires, and he's egocentric like an actual person. But he keeps the real Declan on a leash because he loves his brothers. you don't understand, I'm going to throw up

the biggest trick maggie stiefvater pulls on the reader in the dreamer trilogy is making them think that ronan is this magnificantly tragic cu chulainn/achilles style hero and then declan goes on 1 (one) murderous rampage and we realize it was him all along

i just think adam trying to convince himself he can be without ronan and then failing every time he sees him again during that first summer to adam saying he's done in greywarren and then immediately coming back with one of ronans most beloved dreams that he went out and searched for.....
