i regret to announce that my $4 electric child's toothbrush bearing the image of a suave chewbacca from grocery outlet sucks so bad and is actively unpleasant to use as despite being theoretically intended for children, the plastic is so thick and bulbous that it's hard to fit in my adult mouth despite there being a smaller bristle area than my normal toothbrush. not sure what they expected 6 year olds to do with this

lockscreen is a macro shot i took of my (now severely dying :( ) madagascar palm! still going hard to marianas trench lmao. last picture i took is the ridiculous dress I decorated and bedazzled at work today. and last movie I watched was the never ending story, while coming down from LSD a couple weeks ago (that was a trip, have not seen that movie since I was small, the puppet creatures were honestly a little horrifying lmao)

Haven't been out a whole lot. Just a lot going on and the bird numbers are just not something to write home about, honestly. The days I have been out... I've shot like shit anyway! Still. It's great to get out when I can to reconnect and recharge in nature and it's great at least seeing some birds (albeit, not very cooperative). On the plus side - With all this moisture we have been getting out here in SoCal the past few weeks, there is promise of a fantastic 2022/2023 season... which means more birds and less excuses, hopefully! 😅 Hope you all have been well! This past year I’ve changed my thinking & re-trained some of my bridleless cues. I’ve been moving away from using the neck rope as a 1:1 replacement for the bridle & instead using it only to cue for half halts (raising the base of the neck by lifting the sternum & shifting weight back) & neck extension.

Using the neck rope for downward transitions or for steering, I found, seemed to be causing the same issues that retroactive rein action causes in a bitted or bitless bridle. The horse must shift their weight against the backwards-acting pressure, either by leaning against it to keep their balance, or by bracing somewhere else in the body (often the poll), or by hollowing away from it.

Additionally, instead of using lower leg aids to steer, which requires combination of driving & restricting aids on principal, I’m now using my seat/femurs, & using my seat & voice for transitions between gaits instead of the neck rope. That way, my leg aids can mean one clear thing: a non-escalating cue to increase speed.

I think it makes sense to separate the leg & hand aids, just as we would in normal French classical work, even when there is no bridle, so I’ve been playing w this via R+ & liking the results so far. It’s a work in progress! I like that bridleless riding hasn’t been so standardized with a competition scene yet, so there is still so much room for experimentation & a lot of people are doing things differently which inspires me to try new access points to old ideas.

My neck rope is also a little small for Vigri but I kind of like that it holds me accountable for keeping my hand forward, especially while I am retaining myself to use it this way.

These clips are from #nostirrupnovember which I decided to totally improvise this year, rather than planning & practicing a freestyle. We got nominated for the harmonious riding award but didn’t win it 😅 @californiaquail was kind enough to record the video

These were done in 2019 for college art classes. The first was a acrylic paint final of a still life. The second is a still life, pencil drawing of an animal skull. The third and fifth pieces are done with crayola watercolor colored pencils and ink. The fourth is done in colored pencils, water color, and ink, and is also a still life.
