Kendrick Bangs Kellogg (1934 – February 16, 2024)
Kendrick Bangs Kellogg was the pioneer of organic architecture. In the past decades, Kellogg completed over a dozen striking structures (residential and public), each marked with his distinctly curved, irregular, and expressive style. Influenced by his family’s ties to Frederick Law Olmsted, the ‘Father of Landscape Architecture’, Kellogg’s independent architectural journey began after a brief meeting with Frank Lloyd Wright in 1955.
However, unlike Wright and organic architect Bruce Goff, his style explicitly defies categorization, often alluding to a mix of the Sydney Opera House and Stonehenge.
In fact, Kellogg prioritized durability, solidity, and intricacy, a vision reinforced by his collaboration with visionary clients, using high-quality materials like copper and concrete.
Sculpted over 30 years, the Kellogg Doolittle estate in Joshua Tree California is probably the greatest example of organic architecture signed by Kellogg.
Nestled among the rocky terrain of Joshua Tree, California, the house takes the form of an organic object made up of a cluster of sculptural piers. There is an ambiguous relationship between the built space and the extreme landscape as the house navigates between the protruding rock formations. At certain moments, these natural elements pierce through the interior and become sculptural elements of the conditioned space.

If you’re into stone houses, you’ll love this 1926 house in Palm Springs, California. It has 4bds. 3ba. & is listed for $2.595M.
Check this out- stone walls inside and out. Can you believe the massive fireplace?
Off the living room is a bar with a wine cooler and racks.
In the dining room, they broke up the heavy rock look with a feature wall of smaller stones and beige walls that tie in with the colors. I like the inset built-in sideboard.
There’s room for an office in this stone area off the dining room.
I like these pass-thru’s- they’re like little tunnels. To get to the kitchen you go thru an area with a built-in desk and cabinet.
The kitchen is lovely, has both varieties of stone and a coordinated tile backsplash.
Love the choice of counter tops and look at the great pantry right off the kitchen.
A bench seat and kitchen table is in this sunny area that also opens to the outside patio.
What a view on the private patio.
The only stone in the main bd. is in a sunroom. I think it’s a nice break.
Huge en-suite has stone accents.
Two smaller bds. One has a wood ceiling to add some interest.
And, there’s a lovely large shower en-suite.
The house doesn’t look its age until you get to the basement and see this old safe. Isn’t that cool?
Isn’t this gorgeous? B/c it’s California, there’s tons of outdoor living space, plus that amazing mountain.
Beautiful pool and all sorts of plants. Those cacti are beautiful, yet there’s grass (I think it’s real grass, plus green bushes.)
Look at the size of this deck. It’s massive.
Lovely home. It’s like an oasis in the desert.

Colorado River Flowing Through Needles and a Backdrop of Mountains and Blue Skies by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While taking in views along a dirt road paralleling the Colorado River in Needles, California. My thought on composing this image was to find a location where I could capture the river flowing by and use it as a leading line into the image. Far off would be ridges and peaks of the Eldorado-Newberry Mountains. On the other side of the river is the state line border with Arizona. I liked how there was this front coming through that brought almost a texture to the blue skies in the clouds with its highlights and shadows, seemingly painted across the skies. I angled my Nikon SLR, camera slightly downward, in order to bring the horizon higher into the image, and create more of a sweeping view. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

i felt a feverish passion while looking out of the window of the plane at the desert landscape that has now ebbed to a background ache of desire of wanting to get my license and drive to see all of those mountains and hills and plateaus and tiny towns from ground level. its so barren out there...its hard to build in the desert....the emptiness is comforting and also viscerally terrifying . every time i come home from a trip i think about the poem bonedog. "you come back with x-ray vision. your eyes have become a hunger. you come home with your mutant gifts to a house of bone. everything you see now, all of it: bone"
#sam.txt#i just cant stop thinking about leaving again now that im home#california.. the northern az towns...#its just a background noise in my head that fills me with dread and excitement and passion. or whatever#staring into the emptiness of the desert or the sea feels like staring into my own head

5 Signs It’s Time to Call for Appliance Repair Near Me.
Appliances are crucial for the smooth running of any household. From washing clothes to keeping food fresh, we rely on them every day. But when these essential machines start malfunctioning, it's important to act fast to prevent further damage. If you’ve been searching for "appliance repair near me," here are five clear signs that it’s time to call a professional appliance repair service.
1. Unusual Noises Coming from Your Appliance
One of the most obvious signs that your appliance needs repair is the presence of strange noises. A dishwasher that suddenly starts grinding, a refrigerator that hums more loudly than usual, or a washing machine that bangs during the spin cycle are all indicators that something is wrong.
These noises can result from mechanical issues, such as worn-out parts or loose components. Ignoring them can lead to more significant problems and costly repairs. If you notice any unusual sounds, it’s a clear sign to search for “appliance repair near me” and get the problem checked out.
2. Water Leaks or Puddles Around the Appliance
Water leaks are a serious problem that requires immediate attention. Whether it’s from your refrigerator, dishwasher, or washing machine, water puddles can indicate several underlying issues, from broken seals to faulty hoses. Not only can water damage your home, but it can also pose a risk of electrical problems if it gets into the appliance's wiring.
If you see any signs of leaking, don’t wait. Call a local appliance repair expert to diagnose and fix the problem before it escalates. Searching for "appliance repair near me" will connect you with nearby professionals who can respond quickly.
3. The Appliance Is Not Functioning as Efficiently
A decrease in performance is another sign that your appliance needs professional repair. Is your refrigerator struggling to keep food cold? Does your dryer take longer than usual to dry clothes? Are your dishes coming out of the dishwasher still dirty?
When appliances stop working efficiently, it’s a sign that internal components may be wearing down or malfunctioning. Delaying repairs could lead to increased energy consumption and higher utility bills. To avoid these issues, a quick search for "appliance repair near me" can help you find someone who can restore your appliance’s efficiency.
4. Frequent Powering On and Off
If your appliances are frequently turning on and off by themselves, it’s a sign that there may be an electrical issue. This could be due to faulty wiring, a damaged power source, or an internal electrical malfunction. This kind of behavior should not be ignored, as it could lead to complete appliance failure or even pose a safety hazard.
By calling an appliance repair technician near you, you can ensure the problem is fixed before it worsens. Make sure to search for a reliable "appliance repair near me" service to get your appliances running smoothly again.
5. Unpleasant Odors Coming from the Appliance
Strange or unpleasant smells coming from your appliances should never be ignored. For example, a burning smell from your washing machine or dryer could indicate an electrical issue or an overheating motor. A bad odor from your refrigerator might point to a broken seal, causing spoiled food and mold growth.
If you notice any unusual smells, shut off the appliance immediately and call an expert. Finding "appliance repair near me" can help you quickly locate a technician who can safely diagnose and fix the issue.
Why You Shouldn't Delay Appliance Repairs
Ignoring these warning signs can lead to larger, more expensive problems down the road. Appliances that aren’t functioning properly can not only be inefficient but may also pose safety risks. Whether it’s an electrical hazard or a water leak, taking action as soon as you notice any of these signs is crucial.
When you’re facing appliance problems, searching for “appliance repair near me” can connect you with experienced professionals who can quickly assess and repair your appliance, extending its lifespan and restoring its functionality.
Conclusion: Don’t Wait to Call for Appliance Repair Near Me
It’s easy to overlook minor appliance issues, but doing so can lead to bigger problems and higher repair costs. By staying vigilant and recognizing the signs of a malfunctioning appliance, you can save yourself from the hassle and expense of a complete breakdown.
If you’ve noticed any of these signs, now is the time to find a reliable and local "appliance repair near me" service. With prompt action, you can ensure your appliances remain efficient, safe, and long-lasting.

Because I'm feeling whimsical,
What the fuck do you mean that's a quilt??? Round 2
All quilts are contest winners from the quilt show Road to California, 2022. You can see these quilts and the other winners from that year here.
Best of Show Quilt
Title: Harlequinade Maker: Rebecca Prior Quilter: Jackie Brown Design Basis: Maker's Original Design "Harlequinade" is a theatrical quilt filled with visual clues guiding viewers to discover a hidden story. Inspired by Venetian Carnival masks and commedia del'arte characters, the quilt features the antics of Harlequin, the trickster, who has his own ideas about freedom and fun!
Director's Choice
Title: Welcome Home Maker: David Taylor Quilter: David Taylor Design Basis: Original image by Margo Clabo, used with permission I first saw this image from friend Margo Clabo more than a decade ago. It took years to convince her to let me adapt her photo into a quilt. The image it depicts is especially sentimental for her. The challenge for myself was to create a pieced pictorial background and recreate a traditionally pieced quilt by using my hand appliqué technique. The project size was overwhelming, but I'm thrilled with the finished quilt. So is Margo. Time to exhale.
Note: To be clear, that is not a photo with a quilt in it, that WHOLE THING is a quilt.
Best Machine Stationary Quilting
Title: Emerald labyrinth Maker: Kumiko Frydl Quilter: Kumiko Frydl Design Basis: Maker's Original Design As a starting point I used an image from the entrance to the EL Barkookeyeh Mosque in Cairo. Thinking of an elegant and intricate garden I added bursts of natural color and filled the area between the large elements of the design with finer ornament inspired by butterflies and plants. I set the circular image in a rectangular frame with a subdued complimentary design of rippled reflective pools.
1st Place: Animal
Title: Woodland Wilds Maker: Ann Horton Quilter: Ann Horton Design Basis: Maker's Original Design My morning hikes in the woodland hills of our northern California home inspired this quilt. The rabbits are always alert for danger. This machine appliqued, thread painted and embroidered view through a window is surrounded by wild flowers on hand dyed silk and again surrounded by other wild birds and animals. I love my wilds things in the woods!
1st Place: Human Image
Title: The Memories That Remain Maker: Lynn Czaban Quilter: Lynn Czaban Design Basis: Library of Congress Photos - LC-USF33-006183MI and LC-USF33-0061 I am fascinated by the human face and our ability to communicate without uttering a single word. The Portuguese word 'saudade' meaning a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for something or someone that one cares for and loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again.
1st Place: Naturescape
Title: Desert In Spring Maker: Andrea Brokenshire Quilter: Andrea Brokenshire Design Basis: Maker's Original Design My Mom and I embarked on an epic travel trip we named our "Thelma and Louise Adventure" In Palm Springs, CA we visited the Living Desert Botanical Garden. This quilt is inspired by one of the photographs I took that spring day of a Prickly Pear Cactus in full bloom. I loved the leathery texture of the cactus leaves (paddles) and the almost translucent citron yellow blossoms.
2nd Place: Animal
itle: Not Today Maker: Kestrel Michaud Quilter: Kestrel Michaud Design Basis: Maker's Original Design The chase is on! The Roadrunner is after his next meal, chasing a Common Collared Lizard through a steampunk junkyard. The desert is a favored dumping ground for the detritus of progress, even in a fantasy world. A steam-powered industrial revolution creates iron refuse and pieces of broken machinery have been left to decay in dry desert air. That doesn’t bother these critters. To them, this is home. Will that lizard wind up as dinner? Not today!
2nd Place: Human Image
Title: Declaration of Independence - Voices of Freedom Maker: Nancy Prince Quilter: Terri Taylor Design Basis: Reproduction of John Trumbull's Painting The quilt is a reproduction of John Trumbull's painting which depicts the moment in history when the first draft of the Declaration of Independence was presented to the Second Continental Congress on June 28, 1776. The quilt front and back were created in Photoshop and custom printed on fabric. Four thousand hours over 4 years was necessary to create the quilt. The back captures the story of the Declaration and its signers.
Note: I'm not at all patriotic. But credit where credit is due. That's a fucking quilt.
3rd Place: Animal
Title: Midnight Flight Maker: Joanne Baeth Quilter: Joanne Baeth Design Basis: Maker's Original Design Several years ago we had an injured Great Horned Owl roosting in our willow tree during the day. I took several pictures and was inspired to create him in fabric. The background features a painted sky, old buildings, melting snow and a rabbit on the run The foreground is the swooping owl which was constructed by painting and inking each feather and thread painting over fabrics and needle punched wool rovings
3rd Place: Naturescape
Title: Day Into Night Maker: Deb Deaton Quilter: Deb Deaton Design Basis: Maker's Original Design Inspired from photo by Robert Murray with his permission. When the Arizona sun begins to set, the sky comes alive. I saw this photo and knew the splendor of this landscape needed to be captured with fiber! Sky is hand painted. Raw edge applique. Mixed media used: oil pastels, color pencils, inks to enhance the fabrics and create more dimension. Cheesecloth: painted to create spikes of cactus. Tulle used to capture the sunrays. Machine quilted.
