How plushies help me as an autistic person

Their presence is very soothing, whether it’s because of the soft fabrics they’re made out of, or because of other feature like weighted bean bags or scents. They can also vary in the way they feel, which makes for great opportunities to explore my sensory seeking desires. Above all, whenever I feel stressed, I know that I have them to rely on to bring me comfort, and they’re great to stim with when I need a sensory release.

They can act as physical representations of the things that are important to me- including certain memories, places, people, animals, and characters- in the form of a plush that I can hug,h hang out with, or play with any time I’m wanting to engage with that specific thing. I have plushies given to me by my partner, ones that I got while on vacation, ones that I got for a special occasion, and ones that I got to remind me of a favourite piece of media.

Talking about pluhsies with others brings me joy, and it also helps me to break the ice when it comes to new or challenging social activities. Collecting toys is easily my biggest passion, and talking about it with other people offers them the opportunity to see what kind of person I am and what I value the most. I also get a great amount of joy out of sharing information about plushies and my love for them with like-minded people who are just as passionate about them as I am!

The research I can do on plushies (and toys in general) is endless, and it’ll for sure take me a long time before I completely run out of information on them that I don’t already know! With other past (and less intense) special interests, they often died off because I ran out of things to research about them. But with a subject as broad as plushies and toys, I have so many opportunities to learn more about them at my disposal.

Most of all, they make the perfect companions, as I don’t have to navigate through the confusion of social interaction that drains me of my energy. As much as I love talking to other people, it can become tiring trying to figure out how to navigate social events, but when plushies exist to be good listeners and provide companionship without the need for the unspoken rules of socializing, I often feel more at-ease around them than I do around many people.

The broken escalators one of them was just repaired a week ago not going to be repaired for a long time due to the last one taking half the year to fix

I've already read The Air He Breathes and globally I was okay with it. (New) Romance really isn't for me, but I wasn't mad at it so that's a win. I've also read Bloom Into You, and I'm quite curious to know what happens next. What I'm most excited about though, are the fantasy books!! I didn't know if I wanted to read These Violent Delights, so it's the perfect excuse. The Dark Days Club I had only seen in passing, but now that I have it I can't wait to read it!

Prompt Advent Calendar

Ouran fans (especially), listen up!

A little late posting this, but I wanted to share it here!

I made an advent calendar containing festive prompts to apply to the host club, whether through art, fanfic, a simple headcanon, or anything else!

All you have to do is head to this link, find the number of whatever day it currently is and click it, then make something based on the prompt you're lead to!

🎁 I don't mind if anyone wants to use these for another fandom! The prompts themselves are general, so that'll work just fine.

🎁 The calendar gets edited daily, but unfortunately a little inconsistently as it's run manually by just one person. Edits will always happen some time after 5am GMT!

I made this as a special event for my OHSHC server, so there's a whole channel dedicated to it that you can gain access to via a role. There are threads in the channel for each day, which is where you post your creations! However, you don't have to be in the server to partake. If you'd like to do this only on Tumblr (or any other social media), whether only some days or all, feel free to tag me in anything you come up with!

Book club is starting again soon! Woohoo!!! Put it on your calendar! It’s on mine!

For New Year’s Eve we will read and discuss Fuckboi Hob. (I adore Fuckboi Hob!!!) We’ll start December 29 with Ch 1-3, Dec 30 Ch 4 (the Fight) and Dec 31 Ch 5-6. Feel free to join at any time with any chapter, we’re super flexible about where the discussion goes (just please tell us if you haven’t read the end yet so we can avoid spoilers while you’re around).

And on January 11, the *one year anniversary* of Fuckboi Dream, we will start our *third* daily read through. One chapter per day will be posted at approximately 11 am pst and everyone can read it and throw comments in the channel on the server. (There’s a permanent link in the end note after the last chapter of the fic, if this one has expired.) Anyone is welcome to join in the discussion at any time for any chapter, don’t worry about the time or day, come whenever you like! Just let us know if you’re reading for the first time so we can avoid spoilers when you’re around! (The asides will be mentioned where they fit in but won’t get their own days this time as it was confusing last time.)
