I don’t care what the mkx comics say I refuse to believe Cassie was an accident baby.

My headcanon is that she was planned because Johnny wanted a least one child and Sonya thought that was a natural progression of their relationship, only to have the startling realization that she was not ready to be a parent and completely out of her depth.

A combination of post partum depression and both at home and work stress was what caused Sonya to start distancing herself.

It didn’t help that the older Cassie got the more Sonya drifted. Because Sonya was taking care of herself and her younger siblings when she was around that age she thought that Cassie was more than capable of being left alone, leading to arguments with Johnny.

PLEASE I'd love for you to break down your thoughts on how Johnny parented Cassie

Tysm for the ask! Sorry it took me so long to do.

Johnny parented Cassie much differently than Sonya did. Sonya, as we know, is strict, unafraid to dish out punishments (even if they are just reps), and distant.

I imagine Johnny’s the complete opposite. I wouldn’t say he was a passive parent, but he had trouble putting his foot down and spoiled her often. Differences in their parenting styles was one of the first argument triggers to appear in Sonya and Johnny’s marriage.

Sonya having grown up with a “coddling will only cause problems” mindset as well as helping raise her younger brothers was stuck in her ways while Johnny was desperate to give Cassie the childhood he wanted. When Sonya started to distance herself, Johnny quickly stepped up. He stubbornly wanted to prove her wrong and started to look into parenting books. Though Johnny’s foot never really hit the floor despite his efforts, easily giving into Cassie’s wants.

He fell into a depression after the divorce and took up drinking again. It wasn’t as bad as his previous relapses as he only drank when Cassie wasn’t with him or when he thought she was sleeping, but he knew it wasn’t healthy. Cassie overheard him crying a lot during this period and woke up several times to him drunkenly stumbling into her room to hold her and kiss her head, muttering incoherent nonsense more often than not.

He got help after a drunken phone call with Hanzo talked some sense into him, but the damage had already been done. Cassie never mentioned how much she witnessed of him during that time despite how badly it affected her.

She tries her best to forget it ever happened because beside from it she considers him a good dad. Though going from the hands off approach Johnny took to the hand on collar approach of Sonya gave her whiplash, causing her to present herself differently to them. A trait she struggled to grow out of until after mkx.

Overall, Johnny tried his best and had his moments. I do think he was a good dad, but his and Sonya’s problems (individual and combined) stopped him from being better and unknowingly hurt Cassie in the process.

thinking about the way ghost doesn't hesitate to start killing shadows when graves betrays them but soap only takes one hostage

you can almost hear the voice in his head telling him it doesn't have to be this way; they can still talk it out

he wants a peaceful resolution; for the first time we've ever seen, he doesn't want violence to be the answer. there has to be another fix, a solution that doesn't end with him killing the same men he's been working with; his friends

but ghost has been betrayed before. he knows the way this ends; either with him six feet under or his enemy

he doesn't hesitate

it's only when they knock alejandro out that soap shoots; when they spill the first blood and cross a line they can never come back from

only when ghost orders him to run and he has to cover his retreat

and somewhere along the line, between civilians’ screams and taunting voices, between his shaking breath and ghost steady in his ear, that naivety is stripped away; his trust turned to teeth that he uses to sink into throats of men he'd have given his life for
