Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum, consisting of aluminium oxide (α-Al2O3) with trace amounts of elements such as iron, titanium, cobalt, lead, chromium, vanadium, magnesium, boron, and silicon. The name sapphire is derived from the Latin word sapphirus, itself from the Greek word sappheiros (σάπφειρος), which referred to lapis lazuli. It is typically blue, but natural "fancy" sapphires also occur in yellow, purple, orange, and green colors; "parti sapphires" show two or more colors. Red corundum stones also occur, but are called rubies rather than sapphires. Pink-colored corundum may be classified either as ruby or sapphire depending on locale. Commonly, natural sapphires are cut and polished into gemstones and worn in jewelry. They also may be created synthetically in laboratories for industrial or decorative purposes in large crystal boules. Because of the remarkable hardness of sapphires – 9 on the Mohs scale (the third hardest mineral, after diamond at 10 and moissanite at 9.5) – sapphires are also used in some non-ornamental applications, such as infrared optical components, high-durability windows, wristwatch crystals and movement bearings, and very thin electronic wafers, which are used as the insulating substrates of special-purpose solid-state electronics such as integrated circuits and GaN-based blue LEDs. Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the gem of the 45th anniversary. A sapphire jubilee occurs after 65 years.

Sapphire is one of the two gem-varieties of corundum, the other being ruby (defined as corundum in a shade of red). Although blue is the best-known sapphire color, they occur in other colors, including gray and black, and also can be colorless. A pinkish orange variety of sapphire is called padparadscha.

Significant sapphire deposits are found in Australia, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cameroon, China (Shandong), Colombia, Ethiopia, India Jammu and Kashmir (Padder, Kishtwar), Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Myanmar (Burma), Nigeria, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, United States (Montana) and Vietnam. Sapphire and rubies are often found in the same geographical settings, but they generally have different geological formations. For example, both ruby and sapphire are found in Myanmar's Mogok Stone Tract, but the rubies form in marble, while the sapphire forms in granitic pegmatites or corundum syenites.

Every sapphire mine produces a wide range of quality, and origin is not a guarantee of quality. For sapphire, Jammu and Kashmir receives the highest premium, although Burma, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar also produce large quantities of fine quality gems.

The cost of natural sapphires varies depending on their color, clarity, size, cut, and overall quality. Sapphires that are completely untreated are worth far more than those that have been treated. Geographical origin also has a major impact on price. For most gems of one carat or more, an independent report from a respected laboratory such as GIA, Lotus Gemology, or SSEF, is often required by buyers before they will make a purchase.

Cincinnati

As part of looking up the Northwest Indian War for another post, I came across the settlement of Losantiville’s re-naming as Cincinnati for the Society of the Cincinnati in 1790 by Arthur St. Clair, then governor of the Northwest Territory. (Cincinnati, OH, is located in Hamilton County, named after the obvious person.) 

The Society of the Cincinnati, established 1783, is named after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, an “embodiment of civic virtue.” I’m sure they’re referring to how he assumed power as consul and dictator to suppress rebellions and then retired (twice according to legend - some modern historians are doubtful) back to his farm, but the way this wikipedia entry is written about him is just a classic:   “Cincinnatus was an opponent of the rights of the plebeians (the common citizens) who fell into poverty because of his son Caeso Quinctius's violent opposition to their desire for a written code of equally enforced laws.” Yes, this also sounds like a good number of the original members of the Society, too. Let’s screw over the plebians!

Wait I'm just catching up on this, Arthur was framed for murder??? I totally missed this detail but I don't know where, there's so much reverse stuff to look through >.

Oh yeah, that was a whole thing in his backstory I made up for him.

So he worked alongside Pietro and three other students, Caeso, Irving, and Li. As Team PLAID (later renamed PALDI for Paladin) they worked as engineers/research scientists working in Atlas to developing new technologies and continue their education.

It was great! Until Arthur happened upon a paper of their research posted under the name of their supervisor... and it was using said research to make weapons of mass destruction.

Naturally, he wasn’t very happy with this and went to tell the others, except they caught him before he could. At the same moment, the weapons they were working on malfunctioned, killing a group of workers in a horrible and public incident.

Arthur managed to escape, fleeing Atlas, but the people he was working for used his absence as an excuse to pin the blame on him and fake his death to the others.

Pietro took it the hardest out of all of them, betrayed that Arthur could kill so many people and was working on weapons behind their back. Caeso wanted to forget the whole thing and continue their work, Irving mourned the memory of their friend in a quiet depression, and Li couldn’t believe any of it, suspicious of the circumstances behind the deaths.

She was right. After Pietro’s P.E.N.N.Y was approved, it became apparent to all of them in a horrible instant what Arthur had discovered and, now they realise, had been apparently killed for.

Main characters from my original story (and planned webcomic) Dragons Dye! I’ll make posts explaining the world and species! Main character is Thea!

Thea: 19 years old, female, dye human, Princess and third daughter of the Pelia Kingdom. Skilled with swords. Determined, cheerful, tidy, immature and stubborn.

Eduardo: 26 years old, male, horse centaur. High ranked royal guard from the centaur’s kingdom, prefers spears but can use most weapons, very strong. Kindhearted, nervous, good temper, hesitant, awkward and worrisome.

Anemone: 15 years old, female, harpy. The only princess from the harpy kingdom. She doesn’t fight but she has strong legs and can fly. Bubbly, dreamer, passive, passionate, naive, either inattentive or super focused. She wants to restore her kingdom and bring her citizens the life they deserve.

Caeso: 23 years old, male, durander. Kicked out from his community, skilled archer. Fun, reckless, thoughtful, teases, kinda dumb, sometimes loud and annoying. He got his bow from his grandmother, very bad at making his own arrows.

Aliki: 25 years old, female, durander. One of, if not the most skilled fighter in her community. She uses knives and bladed knuckle-dusters. Quick, strong, serious, a little playful, irrational, judgemental and doesn’t trust people. She has bad long-range aim but is mentally and physically quick.

Maris: 20 years old, female, mermaid. She’s the princess and heir to the throne in one of the mermaid kingdoms. She prefers not to fight but she’s very strong. Excited, kind, a good friend and leader, naive, defensive and hides her emotions. Very in-control of her emotions.

Aisha: 17 years old, female, merfolk. She’s a warrior and very loyal to Maris, she liked knives and swords. She’s cautious, independent, strong willed, she seems apathetic, keeps to herself and pouty. She’s a secret softie and can play flute-like instruments.

Florence: 18 years old, male, half merfolk half durander. He’s been imprisoned the past 13 years of his life, he’s a poet and doesn’t fight. Smug, bold, educated, sarcastic cold and spacey (zones out a lot). He writes poems, songs and anything useful he learns.

Ep 3: I have a plan

First off, I was talking to PJ about my the challenge, and I promised him three things

One of Anna and Michael's children will be an actor

Once Michael is an elder, we will woohoo him to death

After Michael's death, Anna will peruse Caleb Vatore and bring him in as a secondary spouse.

So look out for those plot points. Second, my goals for today are to have the wedding and acquire an orchid for the family. I don't know if that's against the rules but orchids are a really good way to make money so I am going to try and get one for the Zilvers. Anyway, let's go.

I loaded in and had Anna look for bunnies and collectables while Michael worked in the garden, planting some catnip he bought. I also noticed we had a bit of money so I replaced one of the side roofs with a real wall and expanded the house width-wise by one, making it now a tiny home as opposed to a micro home and finally bought a fridge. Maybe soon we'll add a second floor.

After some home improvements, I took Anna to the library again to work on her R&D skill, while Michael stayed home. After she was done, Anna went to the Bramblewoods to look for the new creature keeper and some berries and bunnies. We got some chocoberries, met the new creature keeper, Alondra Rebuschatis and saw a bunny we named Caeso.

Once we got home, Michael tended to the garden and made some food while Anna slept. Soon, it was time for Michael to work so he left. Once Anna woke up, she got some new earbuds, ate some food and went back to the Bramblewoods. We got some basil from Sophie the Snail then decided we like photography and took a selfie with her.

We also met a new bunny named Coralie. Anna got some Nightly Mushrooms then Cecilia Kang invited us over, but we were busy. While walking around the Bramblewoods, Geeta Rasoya called saying we were to inherit some money. Studious lawyer in training Anna asked, "Under what conditions?" and received $2,500 (I didn't see anything about this event in the rules so I picked the better option.)

With the sudden inheritance, we were able to plan our wedding. To celebrate the good fortune, Anna and Michael headed over to the Romance Festival in San Myshuno. Once they arrived, Michael looked at some plants. Unfortunately, nothing was in season. As a consolation, Michael bought a romance festival shirt. After that, Anna and Michael had some sakura tea together.

Afterwards, they were both hungry so they got some nigiri and pufferfish nigiri. (Anna had the puffer.) Neither was very good at chopsticks. But look at how Michael looks at Anna.

Once they finished their food they went home, only to find a strange man at their door. Wanting to be polite, Anna introduced herself while Michael planted some crops.

I also did some renovations.

Michael came in from the greenhouse but somehow the strange man got inside. I swear I locked the door. Michael asked him to leave.

The next day, Michael went to work and Anna worked on her aspiration. He travelled to the magic realm and practised magic there, learning Repario, thereby completing level one of her aspiration. We also bought sage and an ancient wood wand before going home.

The next day was the wedding day! First, Anna had work, so Michael was out and about in Henford. Finally, after work, it was wedding time. Michael and Anna both got crumplebottomed at his own wedding but all in all, it was a lovely affair.

That was going to be the end of the post but Derek McMillan died in the middle of the wedding.

So, uh, yeah. Gold Medal Wedding, 3 more medal points, Michael changed his surname to Zilver-Bell, they tried for a baby, end post. Heh.

In medieval chivalric romance, the wizard often appears as a wise old man and acts as a mentor, with Merlin from the King Arthur stories being a prime example. Wizards such as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings are also featured as mentors, and Merlin remains prominent as both an educative force and mentor in the modern works of Arthuriana.

Wizards can be cast similarly to the absent-minded professor: being foolish and prone to misconjuring. They can also be capable of great magic, both good and evil. Even comical magicians are often capable of great feats, such as those of Miracle Max in The Princess Bride; although he is a washed-up wizard fired by the villain, he saves the dying hero.

Other wizards, such as Saruman from The Lord of the Rings, can appear as hostile villains.

Ursula K. Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea explored the question of how wizards learned their art, introducing to modern fantasy the role of the wizard as the protagonist. This theme has been further developed in modern fantasy, often leading to wizards as heroes on their own quests. Such heroes may have their own mentor, a wizard as well.

Not an ask for Caeso, but about the universe. Is Caeso Arceus' in universe Submas OC? Did it have an in universe blog where they posted about their subway boss oc? and then one day they realized they could just conveniently create them and solve an issue they needed solved at the same time? Even if not, Caeso has a lot of love and care in him so thank you for this gem. This is a rabbit hole that has plagued my mind.

You can always search my blog on mobile for OC names and anything mentioning them will come up! Otherwise before i get into depth i have to describe some places that i made lore for since theres nothing in canon. Everything will be under the cut, its kinda long

- blyth: settlement right between Phoenix and Palm Springs. On the west side of the Colorado River. It’s a ncr Ranger post thats constantly vigilant because of heavy legion traffic

- palm springs: a touristy town today, a lot of 40s/50s celebrities had second homes here since hollywood had a rule about being no more the 2 hours away. was hit by a few missiles during the great war but mostly just got falloff from LA bombs. Its a very isolated community, with a few celebrity prewar ghouls and a vault. Uses the windfarm there for power, although a lot of the turbines were wrecked in the war giving of only 30% power. Theres some old world blues here. I nicknamed is “Fool’s Paradise” after the song by bob crosby, because they just try to ignore the legion and ncr. Eventually does get annexed into ncr.

- indio: kinda like westside, I never really developed it that much. Palm springs doesnt like like legion refugees so they congregate and live here as a patched community.

- 29 palms: an originally abandoned military base that was repurposed by some refugees to be a new home.

- joshua tree national park: deathclaw paradise. There are a lot of rocks for protection and bighorned sheep to snack on so i just feel like itd be the perfect habitat for them. Like zion i think itd be pretty unaffected by the war

- salton sea: an already toxic area to begin with in our timeline, it has the highest saltine level of all lakes caused my manmade mistakes. since its already useless, in fallout au they dumped radioactive waste into it. Absolutely inhospitable with mutated fish and giant birds, along with a constant toxic gas cloud surrounding it

-riverside city: an agricultural settlement, mostly fruit. Built out from a vault thats experiment was increasing vitamin c over a long period of time. Opened the doors 2200. The followers set up an outpost here and made a joint system to improve health and trade.

- big bear: a mountain logger town that virtually is unfazed by the war. Ncr territory.

Gabriel: my independent courier!!! He was born near the boneyard in 2244, and was raised on the road by his mom. Technically an ncr citizen, but not a soldier. He didnt meet his dad and (half) sister until he was six, and wasnt close to them growing up. When he was old enough he tried joining the followers, but it didnt work out, so he went to palm springs where his sister lives and learn more about her and his dad, and start work as a courier. She teaches him a lot of survival skills that she learned from their dad. He ends up in The Colorado territory (riverside county area) right when its getting annexed hes 27, and right after that he leaves and does courier traveling the west coast for a couple years. At age 33 he gets a notice that his dad went mia at the first battle of hoover dam while he was up near navarro. This is when he takes the package to the divide. He goes back to palm springs for a while before he actually decides to go to navada to pay his respects, and he takes a job in primm to deliver the chip and thats when fnv starts. He’s a sniper with high charisma and speech, good at stealth, and has good survival skills.

Miguela: gabriels older sister by 6 years who actually has a bunch of aliases and ncr’s number one tax evader. Born in el paso tx, her mom died giving birth and her dads a desert ranger so pretty much raises her as such in the mojave. She ends up going her own way, travels into the mountain areas of CA. lives on an apple farm for some time until the ncr starts pissing her off and she moves back to the mojave in palm springs/29 palms. Finds out what the legion is, hates it, and basically becomes a warden under the name Riley (its from an apple farm called Riley’s Farm, 5 star apple pie) for the area and turns into a legend pretty much. Based on the song “lady from 29 palms” so nicknames like “best of the west” and “witch of the west”. Gabriel shows up, and after a few years the mayor of palm springs is kidnapped and they go on that adventure trying to stop a legion raid after already dealing with ncr. She ends up becoming the mayor and hates it.

Luz: my chosen one and gabriels mom! After blowing up the oil she keeps wandering the wasteland more and does some random odd jobs. Meets gabriel’s dad near vegas. Goes back to CA to try and get to the boneyard but gets sidetracked. Shes pretty new so shes not super developed, she she ends up pretty aloof and mysterious. Shes pretty protective of gabriel though and does keep tabs on him.

Ray Vasquez (ranger dad): he was born in baja as a fisherman but traveled up to the mojave and joined the rangers. After that he just travels around a lot. Hes really charismatic but doesnt know what hes doing with his life, he just travels around and notes areas for the rangers.

Dimitri Romero: born in Tucson 2252. Hes strong, perceptive, and endurable. Hes not very charismatic, intelligent, or agile and has average luck. His skills though, contradict his stats. He cant do close combat, doesnt know lock picking/explosives, and although he can eat anything he doesnt know how to cook. Meanwhile hes very talkative yet no very likable, he can repair things but its from experiences learning from his mom, and hes good at using a gun but hes kinda like… rough with them and doesnt handle them nicely. He is a good hunter though, good at tracking. Had a desert ranger dad who died a few months after he was born from a raider attack. Has a mom who traveled from chihuahua mx, and then raised him on his own after finding the most remote yet stable location possible, big bear. He joins the ncr thinking itll help his mom financially and becomes one of the youngest ncr rangers. Hes 19 when the ncr-desert ranger truce is signed, and thats when he starts training to be a ranger. When he does become one hes sent to blyth. Hes then sent to a ncr prison near there to interrogate a legionary, and i drew that b99 comic of him yelling.

Caeso: hes the legionary getting yelled at. Its like that silus quest, except hes not stupid. He was a Frumentarii who killed a centurion, and got attacked by his squad. Was able to escape and swim across but was pretty close to dying in the river until an ncr patrol picked him up. He was near blyth when all this happened, thats where he was supposed to sneak into. He doesnt give any information and does break out and infiltrates the ncr. Hes the foil to dimitri where hes not strong/perceptive/endurable but he’s charismatic/intelligent/agile. Hes good at melee, but its less bashing and more calculated cuts. He doesnt really do medicine but knows a ton of herb remedies and recipes. Barely talks but somehow likable. Tall and not good and sneaking, knows how to pick locks, but never learned how to use terminals or most prewar technology.

Gauis: was my legion courier but got a bug where anytime he tried to sleep during the arizona killer hed die. Hes really tall and strong but has really, really bad charisma and speech so he just says the worst things all the time. Was living a pretty isolated life trapping and cannibalizing people in remote areas in arizonas forests. He still eats people.

Im still trying to develop some misc ocs, but tbh i have to actually start making more stuff that isnt just timelines and notes and stuff for it to sound coherent
