Trash Can Full of Treasures

Word Count ~ 857 Crack treated seriously drabble of our precious trash panda, Caelus, who sneaks off at the sight of a particular trash can that was just calling out to him.

It had been a day or so since the Supreme Guardian ordered the Trailblazers’ arrest, of course that would never stop Caelus nor March and as for Dan Heng, well, he was pretty much stuck with them. And he seemed to have already accepted his fate when something caught March’s attention as she walked over despite some silvermane guards walking about. Dan Heng sighed, but eventually followed her and thought that Caelus wasn’t too far behind. 

It doesn’t occur to him that their newest member of the Astral Express crew had snug away from them and was now staring at the trashcan. On the end, Dan Heng sighed and pressed his palm against his temple, shaking his head only for his arm to drop down when March asked him to smile right beside his wanted poster.

Whoever had drawn these posters, well, did their best to say the least. Dan Heng lifted his hand to display a peace sign in hopes of satisfying March enough until he looked around after March snapped a photo, realizing they were one member short.

“March… where did Caelus go?” 

“Huh? He was here just a minute ago– wait, wasn’t he with–” she halted mid-sentence and turned to notice where the individual in question was. “Oh no…”

Dan Heng closed his eyes before turning towards the direction that March did before opening them and sure enough, Caelus was right there in their line of sight, staring intently at the trash can. 

“Why is he–”

“I have no idea…”

To Caelus this wasn’t just some ordinary trash can. The more he stared at it the more it lost its shape of a trash can and transformed into something better: a treasure chest. He didn’t realize how long he had been staring at it until his attention snapped away from the trash can when he heard Dan Heng clear his throat behind him.

He didn’t utter a word and instead just looked at March and Dan Heng before returning his gaze at the object. Sure enough, it still looked like a very inviting treasure chest.

“You…” March started, but wasn’t even sure what to say. “Uh, Dan Heng?” She turned toward the other male as if signaling for him to say something.

Dan Heng lifted his arms to cross over his chest and shook his head. “There is no going back once he chooses this path.”

Caelus, although not facing them, had to ask himself what Dan Heng meant by that. Is that a warning? 

The urge became stronger and perhaps even unbearable. He turned to look at his companions one more time before he lifted the lid. 

“You’re not actually going to… look through there… are you?” March questioned with a concerning and utter disgust in her face. She was never one to really hide her expressions.

Oh, but sure as hell he was. This wasn’t a trash can, this was a treasure chest waiting to be opened and who was Caelus to pass up an opportunity presented right before him?

With confidence as he lifted the lid entirely, he shoved his hand down into the depths of the trash can, at first all that he got were spent water bottles, empty soda cans and some half-finished sandwiches. He almost gave up until he found himself a disc he was sure he could play on the Astral Express. 

Once he completed his mission, he placed the lid back and turned around. It was a belated realization of what he had just done that made him part his lips but March immediately raised her hand and shook her head. 

“No need to explain. I get it. The urge was too strong to resist.” 

Dan Heng was quiet, cupping his chin as he thought before looking at Caelus, the Silvermane Guards kept close watch from his peripheral. He closed his eyes and shook his head briefly before he began turning his body  to face opposite from the Silvermane Guards, approaching to stand between Caelus and March.

“Just… don’t tell Pom-Pom where you actually got the disc. Also, we’ve been spotted.” He spoke calmly before he raised both his hands to push against the two individual’s backs.

“Already?” March whined when she saw the men and groaned. “I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I wanted.” 

“We can out-run them.” Caelus said with confidence, a smirk on his lips as he flipped his bat to rest on his shoulders.

“It’s possible, but not when we’re just standing around like this.” Dan Heng urged the two before nodding his head toward the direction to lose the Silvermane Guards. “Move it.”

And, thus, the three Trailblazers ran for it the moment they heard the Silvermane Guards ordering them to halt. 

March was giggling a little further away from Caelus and Dan Heng, Caelus deciding it was fine to stick his tongue out at the guards in a teasing manner only to be obscured by Dan Heng’s hand shoved against his face but there was a hint of an amused smile on Dan Heng’s lips followed by a shake of his head, all which Caelus unfortunately missed.

The Archives were a total mess—books scattered everywhere, some of the servers had reset themselves, and notes with scribbles and symbols he didn't recognize were pinned to a board against the wall.

But in the middle of it all sat Dan Heng, head in his hands as he mumbled incoherently, not even sparing Caelus a glance. He probably didn't even hear him coming in.

“Dan Heng?” The Trailblazer spoke softly as he took a tentative step forward.

That was his mistake.
