The rain surrenders to the town, Al Capone is no longer there

Sitting on the windowsill and occasionally looking at the terrace, Eliza takes needles and threads from the sewing box and makes ferns with felt. The plants made of non-woven fabric that has pressed fibers such as wool or animal fur. Making ferns as if the leaf veins gain the breath from water veins, she is waiting for something. Her husband is a man who is hiding whiskey behind books on a bookshelf, snuggling up to whole world’s despairs day and night, crying while seeing her off. Eliza is working at the supermarket every afternoon.
Al Capone, who was imprisoned in The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, is said to have hidden rye whiskey in his cell. Alcatraz Island on San Francisco Bay was surrounded by the cold sea currents, the prisoners could not easily escape from prison. In the 1979 movie ‘Escape From Alcatraz’, Frank Morris acted by Clint Eastwood attempted a desperate jailbreak. Investigators said “they are dead,” but the prison chief found Morris’s chrysanthemum being washed ashore.
There was a pet shop on the roof of the supermarket. The children were teasing a squirrel monkey trapped in a cage with Chupa Chups’ sticks. The monkey was scared of the shout “Cute!”. Turned his back on the crowd, ate sunflower seeds with downcast eyes. The monkey wished he could dive into the downwind Tokyo Bay from wagon of the Ferris wheel on the roof. A cargo ship was swaying in the sunset on the waves. Suddenly, the machine gun fired. The monkey was frightened by the creeping killers. The squirrel monkey was very timid. He heard the footsteps of the gangster were approaching. No, it was the sound of the thunder storms hitting the concrete floor on the roof.
To escape from the sudden rain, a bachelor rushed into the main entrance just before the store closed. The man chose an assorted box of baked sweets as a gift for his mother living in a hometown and went to the service counter. Eliza worked at the gift section in the supermarket. “Would you like to choose a wrapping paper?” Eliza asked the bachelor. “No, especially no,” the man replied lazily. “Leave it to me,” she chose a few sheets of colourful Japanese paper and wrapped the box with beautiful gradation. “I like this kind of paper with the texture of plants. These are my personal goods. It’s a secret…,” she smiled embarrassedly. The bachelor invited Eliza to a supper after her work. She was surprised and hesitant for a while, but replied, “I can be with you for a little. My husband is waiting for me to come home.”
They met at a Chinese restaurant near the supermarket. Under the paper lantern, Eliza, who took off her uniform, looked like a young girl. She wore an old-fashioned flapper-style dress like Dorothy Parker. They ordered a dim sum set that would not fill their stomachs.
“I’m working on the graphic design, so interested in a clerk who is particular about wrapping paper like you. Thank you for dating today.”
The bachelor made an excuse.
“I’m glad you invited me. I’m a middle-aged woman, in the edge of my life.”
Eliza laughed obediently.
“Once a week, I accompany my husband to church for his AA meetings. He doesn’t like going to church. He is not a Christian, and wondering which God he should make an oath to. While waiting for his meetings to end, I’m learning handicrafts at a women’s workshop at church.”
She talked ramblingly.
“I’m designing book covers, so I’m particular about paper. Paper is made of pulp. Pulp is a tree. Since ancient times, it has been said that God dwells in trees. Paper is sacred.”
As the man made a passionate speech, Eliza looked at him with vacant eyes and said, “Seems to be the story of Yggdrasill. The world tree in the Nordic myth.”
Yggdrasill shivers,
the ash, as it stands.
The old tree groans,
and the giant slips free. *[1]
Suddenly, they heard a rhythm of cha-cha-cha from the portable player. The upper bodies of the old couple sitting in the next began to dance on the horizon of the table, for the ballroom dance choreography. While laughing at the cheerful tune ‘La engañadora’ by Orquesta Amérca, “It’s getting late. Shall we go home?” the bachelor said and passed the bill to the waiter. The man slid the coaster that had been written his cell phone number towards Eliza.
The bachelor enters to a bar on the back alley. He notices that the tune in the Chinese restaurant is chasing him. The happy rhythm of ‘La en gañadora’ is coiling around him in the dim light. ‘La engañadora’ means the fraudster in Spanish. But it was translated in the US as “Anything Can Happen When You’re in Havana”.
In the dark corner of the pub at the wharf on a holiday,
a pint of Guinness, the jukebox, the released bustles are foaming.
The man in front of me,
into a glass of half pint that had been dried up,
added canned beer bought at the supermarket.
A pretty and well-behaved child next to me,
wrapping curly hair around her fingers
staring at the souvenir shop
is tweeting the rain.
Rain.
Water the Queen’s well.
Rain.
Bored phonograph records
ran out of patience
and turned into
the music of
bubbles. *[2]
The rain surrenders to the town. The squirrel monkey that escaped from the cage of pet shop is wandering at night. He slipped through the gangster’s bullets and jumped into Tokyo Bay from the Ferris wheel. At the wharf, Al Capone’s favorite car, 1928 Cadillac V-8 Town Sedan and a million barrels of rye whiskey are preparing to be loaded onto the ship. Al Capone himself is no longer there. There is just a cigar end in the puddle. The chrysanthemum is looking up at the huge gantry crane. Silence surrounds the darkness. The old tree groans, and the giant slips free. This world is made of huge trees. People held in the dome of the world tree where the ground and underground, day and night are reversed are about to fall asleep. A spring springs at the root of the ash tree. The squirrel monkey is skipping from branch to branch freely and lightly, kissing the olive fruits.
The cell phone rang in the middle of the night.
The bachelor heard Eliza’s sobbing.
Behind her was her husband crying.
“My husband hit me on the cheek, but I feel sorry for him.”
Sitting on the windowsill, Eliza is waiting for something.
The fern that lives quietly beside the water veins under the shade of rocks.

Meet the 2020 CT4-V 🇺🇸 ______________________________________ [5/30/19] Cadillac has launched the all new CT4 sedan first in its V Guise which really is like a “V-Sport” trim as we are waiting on the next higher trim of the V hierarchy with more power and performance. So this new CT4 replaces the ATS and I think it looks really good… except the rear is a bit too quirky. 🔥[@Allcarnews Spec Sheet] Powering the CT4-V is a odd choice, a 2.4L turbo Four cylinder that is found in GM pickups and makes 320HP and 369 lb-ft of torque paired to a 10 speed gearbox to either the rear or all four wheels. Keep in mind the outgoing ATSV made 464HP from a TT V6. In its current form, the CT4-V should compete with the Audi S3 and A35 AMG 🔥 Cadillac has said this new CT4 chassis offers 50/50 weight distribution and the CT4-V gets Brembo brakes, the next generation of Magnetic Ride control, a limited slip rear diff, a new V mode dial, and sportier gauge clusters, wheels and seats. Now for the general CT4 styling…..The front looks pretty unique and good albeit the Caddy badge is a tad too large for the grille. But the rear just doesn’t fit the car in this Blue, I actually like it as its rather unique and looks good with the quad exhaust tips. The interior also looks much better on the CT4 than on the CT5, possibly because everything is tighter and smaller overall. L’inspirante Cadillac CT4-V !
Le 18 novembre 2020
Comme je l’ai annoncé la semaine dernière après mon essai de la Cadillac CT5-V, cette semaine sera une suite logique du reportage de la semaine dernière alors que je vous transmets mes impressions sur la Cadillac CT4-V. Mais avant de débuter, telle ne fut pas ma surprise de lire l’article d’un jeune journaliste que je respecte concernant la CT4 dans un grand journal montréalais de dimanche. Il considère la CT4 une de ses grandes déceptions de 2020.
Malgré tout le respect que je lui dois, je me demande si nous avons conduit la même voiture. Car, dans mon cas, j’ai été enchanté de la CT4 dans sa version de performance V. Il faut dire que j’en suis l’évolution depuis son dévoilement à Detroit il y a deux ans! De plus, j’ai conduit l’auto pendant une semaine tout de suite après la CT5. Plus ironique encore, je ne suis pas nécessairement un amateur de Cadillac (je possède deux Lincoln) et qui plus est, je suis de l’âge où l’on devrait rechercher des Cadillac! Mais, je vous le dis tout de suite, ce n’est pas la Caddy qui aurait fait rêver votre père, ni même votre grand-père!
Au départ, il faut dire que cette petite berline de Cadillac a toute une tâche à accomplir. En effet, elle est la seule de souche nord-américaine à se mesurer à des icônes comme les Mercedes-Benz de Classe A, les Audi A3 ou les BMW de la Série 2. Évidemment, elle n’affiche pas le style de ces voitures européennes mais plutôt un style bien à elle quoique inspiré des autres Cadillac. On y voit même des ressemblances étonnantes avec la CT5. Mais les deux autos sont vraiment différentes. Toutefois, rassurez-vous, cette fois, Cadillac n’a pas répété son erreur des Cimarron des années quatre-vingt (des horribles autos basées sur une coque de Cavalier sans grande finition!). Déjà, je dois vous dire que c’est même mieux que les ATS qui les précédaient. Cependant, vous aurez compris que la direction que Cadillac prend avec ses versions V (incluant la finition Blackwing à venir) est inspirée des exploits en course de la grande marque américaine. Encore le weekend dernier, Cadillac a remporté le trophée du constructeur de l’année de la série IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Challenge avec ses prototypes à moteur V8 central! Les CTS du passé ont aussi écumé les circuits routiers américains il y a quelques années dans les divisions de voitures de production (saviez-vous que Cadillac avait déjà participé aux 24 Heures du Mans au début des années cinquante?).

Je vous laisse juger de vous-mêmes des lignes de la CT4-V. Moi, je les trouve modernes sans les exagérations que l’on voit sur certaines autos asiatiques. Elles représentent bien l’ADN de Cadillac sans obligatoirement copier ce qui se fait ailleurs.

Plusieurs observateurs ont noté que l’intérieur de la CT4 manque de panache. Jusqu’à un certain point, c’est vrai. Mais cette fois, Cadillac ne nous offre pas un intérieur surchargé de chrome et de faux-bois (ce que ces mêmes observateurs reprochaient à Cadillac dans le passé!). Il est donc sobre mais demeure relativement bien fini. Le tableau de bord n’affiche pas une ligne remarquable mais tout y est bien disposé alors que l’instrumentation (numérique reproduisant des cadrans ronds) y est claire et précise. J’ai bien aimé, encore fois, l’affichage du compteur de vitesse en réflexion à l’intérieur du pare-brise! On peut le neutraliser si l’on n’aime pas! Moi, je trouve que c’est un élément de sécurité important. Le conducteur retrouvera le levier de changements de vitesses à la console (un peu large, je l’avoue).

Les sièges ne sont pas tant élégants qu’ils sont pratiques avec des supports latéraux solides. Ils sont chauffants ou ventilés alors que le volant est chauffant. Et celui-ci permet une bonne prise! Quant aux places arrière, elles sont confortables mais comme c’en est le cas pour toutes (ou presque) les berlines de ce créneau (incluant les sacro-saintes européennes), l’espace pour les jambes des occupants peut être relativement limité (alors que la CT5 procurait beaucoup de place!). Enfin, le coffre est quand même respectable. Évidemment, il s’agrandit en abaissant les dossiers des sièges d’arrière.

En ce qui a trait à la mécanique, la CT4 de base arrive avec un quatre cylindres de 2,0 litres qui n’est certes pas un foudre de guerre. Toutefois, la CT4-V est livrée d’usine avec un quatre cylindres de 2,7 litres turbocompressé (originalement conçu pour la camionnette Silverado mais qui fait très bien dans la petite Cadillac…de tout façon, de nos jours, la plupart des moteurs de camionnettes viennent de voitures et vice versa!) qui développe pas moins de 325 chevaux ce qui n’est pas loin des 360 chevaux de la CT5-V ! La boîte de vitesses auto de la version de base est à huit rapports mais la CT4-V a droit à celle à dix rapports! De base, toutes les CT4 sont à propulsion (ses concurrentes sont à traction) mais la V que j’ai conduite était à traction intégrale, un choix que je crois sera unanime parmi les acheteurs de la marque (et qui sera très utile en hiver). Je ne peux malheureusement pas vous parler de la version Blackwing qui n’est pas encore dévoilée (plusieurs observateurs croient que celle-ci aura l’ancien moteur V6 de 3,6 litres turbocompressé de l’ancienne CTS-V mais moi, je m’attends plutôt au V6 turbo de la CT5-V avec un peu plus de puissance…). La suspension est indépendante aux quatre roues alors que le freinage se fait via des disques aux quatre roues avec la technologie Brembo à l’avant.

Sur la route
C’est ici que mes opinions doivent différer. J’ai conduit les deux Cadillac l’une derrière l’autre. Alors que je n’ai pas été impressionné outre mesure par les 360 chevaux de la CT5-V, le quatre cylindres de la CT4-V m’a beaucoup plu. Ses temps d’accélérations de 0 à 100 km/h approchaient ceux de la CT5 tournant autour des six secondes alors que les reprises étaient plus qu’amusantes. Il est vrai que le son du quatre cylindres est plus rauque que celui du V6 mais le «petit» moteur m’a tellement paru plus vivant, plus agile que je ne peux que le vanter. Incidemment, ce même moteur est beaucoup plus silencieux en vitesse de croisière! Il faut dire que la boîte à dix rapports a beaucoup contribué à la sensation de «sportive» que la CT4-V m’a procurée. Les gros pneus Continental 235/35R19 ont fort probablement contribué à la bonne tenue de route de la CT4-V dans les virages serrés des petites routes où je l’ai essayée. Quant au freinage, inutile de vous dire qu’il m’a paru très puissant !
Au niveau de la consommation, j’ai obtenu une moyenne à la pompe (selon mes calculs) de 10,94 l/100 km alors que l’ordinateur de bord indiquait 10,6! Très près et fort possiblement équivalent à ce que la concurrence m’aurait donné!
Une berline Cadillac CT4 V-Series débute à 45 398$. Celle qui a servi à ce reportage incluait des options comme un toit ouvrant de 1295 $, un ensemble Technologie de 1350 $, une sellerie perforée de 1845 $, une illumination avant d’appoint de 475 $, des étriers de freins Brembo avant de 685 $, des jantes spéciales de 3062 $. Ajoutez à cela l’ensemble audio Bose et le système de navigation de 920 $, l’ensemble d’avertissement Driver Awareness de 925 $ et l’aide à la conduite de 1425 $ (en plus de la taxe d’accise de 100 $ pour la climatisation et les frais de transport et de livraison de 2100 $ et on obtient une facture de 59 580 $ …plus taxes! Ne manquait plus que le système de conduite automatique Super Cruise!
Je suis demeuré avec une bonne impression de cette «petite» voiture que je n’ai pas hésité à recommander à un de mes amis qui y était intéressé (il vise plus la version de base mais avec la traction intégrale). C’est fou comment beaucoup de gens croient qu’il faille éviter les autos américaines pour des raisons quelque fois débattables. Dans le cas de la CT4, surtout dans sa version V, je ne vois pas pourquoi on devrait la dénigrer face à sa concurrence étrangère. Je crois que cette «petite» Cadillac est enfin la bonne réponse de Cadillac à cette concurrence !
À venir, la Kia K5
La semaine dernière, j’ai eu l’opportunité de conduire un peu en «avant-première» la nouvelle berline K5 de Kia, une «grande» voiture intermédiaire qui remplace maintenant la Kia Optima (née Magentis) avec laquelle j’ai couvert quelque centaines de kilomètres durant la même journée. C’était, bien entendu, en vue du vote à l’AJAC pour le titre de Voiture de l’Année (il n’y aura pas eu de TestFest ou Festival des Essais cette année, COVID oblige). J’ai bien aimé ce que j’y ai vécu mais je préfère garder mes opinions pour un reportage après une semaine complète avec cette auto. Ce sera certes pour les semaines à venir…

Kurz gefahren | 2020 Audi RS5 Sportback - Streber
Der Audi RS 5 Sportback hat für das Modelljahr 2020 eine ordentliche Überarbeitung bekommen. Glücklicherweise hatten wir die Gelegenheit den Ingolstädter im Rahmen einer besonderen Aktion von Jan Gleitsmann am Bilster Berg testen zu können. Zwar nur kurz, aber ausreichend für einen ersten Eindruck. Der Audi RS5 Sportback hat als Limousinenvariante wenig Konkurrenz. Der ewig etablierte BMW M3 darf als Referenz herhalten, die ewig hinterhechelnden Jungs von Mercdes-AMG schmeißen den C 63 in den Ring. Als Exot hat Alfa Romeo mit der Giulia QV ganz großes Kino bewiesen. Ansonsten haben sich Cadillac mit dem ATS-V, Jaguar mit dem XE Project 8 und Lexus mit dem IS-F leider von der Bühne der kompakten Performance Sedans verabschiedet.
2020 Audi RS 5 Sportback | Fanaticar Magazin Besonderes Alleinstellungsmerkmal beim Audi RS 5 im Gegensatz zu Konkurrenz ist hier der serienmäßige Allradantrieb "quattro". Das nimmt zwar ein wenig den Kick in Kurven, sorgt dafür aber für satte Traktion und kann somit auch bei schlechteren Wetterbedingungen freudig voran getrieben werden. Von Frontlastigkeit ist nichts zu spüren, selbst mit hohem Kurvenspeed fressen sich die Pneus willig in den Asphalt und lassen einen spüren, dass noch ausreichend Sicherheitsreserven vorhanden sind. Optisch hat der neue Audi RS 5 Sportback sich dem grantigen RS 6 und RS 7 angepasst. Besonders die neue Lichtsignatur der Matrix-LEDs lässt den neuen RS 5 Sportback nochmals dominanter werden. Auch die angedeuteten Luftschlitze oberhalb des breiteren Singleframe-Grills gehören mittlerweile zum guten Ton. Dazu gibt es 40 Millimeter mehr Breite an den Radhäusern, neugestaltete Schweller und einen neuen Diffusoreinsatz. Passt!
Beim Interieur ist direkt Wohlfühlen angesagt. Der technisch kühle Look weiß einfach zu gefallen. Die Instrumente sind gut positioniert, die Haptik ist wie gewohnt ohne Fehl und Tadel, das Infotainment-System ist mit MIB3 auf dem neusten Stand. Weitere Neuerungen sind größere Schaltwippen, eine neue RS-Anzeige sowie eine neue RS-Taste am Lenkrad. Per Knopfdruck verwandelt sich der RS 5 Sportback vom entspannten Dressman in eine Performance Maschine. Und so kommen wir wieder zum (viel viel viel viel zu kurzen) Fahrerlebnis mit dem Audi RS 5 Sportback. Der 2,9 Liter Bi-Turbo hängt gierig am Gas und lässt die 450 Pferde fröhlich galoppieren. Das maximale Drehmoment von 600 Nm wird dabei von einer Achtstufen-Tiptronic im Zaum gehalten. 100 km/h sind in 3,9 Sekunden erreicht maximal sind 250 beziehungsweise optional 280 km/h drin.
2020 Audi RS 5 Sportback | Fanaticar Magazin Fazit: Die Fahrt war kurz aber der erste Eindruck war überzeugend. Zwar sehe ich den M3 fahrdynamisch immer noch an der Spitze, jedoch ist der neue Audi RS 5 Sportback mit seiner besonderen Spreizung zwischen exzellenter Alltagstauglichkeit und exzellenter Fahrdynamik schon mächtig im Rückspiegel am drängeln. Man hat immer ein wenig das Gefühl, dass hier ein echter Streber am Start ist, der nichts anderes will als den Thron zu besteigen. Und das in einer Perfektion und einem Ehrgeiz die besonders bei den Schwaben noch lange nicht zu sehen ist. BMW hat derzeit also eigentlich nur einen echten Konkurrenten im Heck und der hat vier Ringe.

2020 Cadillac CT4-V AWD First Test: The Caddy That Vigs
The new 2020 Cadillac CT4 lineup is being pitched as a subcompact entry aimed at the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, Mercedes A-Class/CLA-Class, and Audi A3/S3 sedans. But as has so often been the case throughout the brand’s recent history, the CT4 lands as kind of a “tweener” in many respects—aligned in price with the subcompacts but sized closer to the compacts. So does it come off as a roaring bargain, or like a big kid in class who was held back for a grade or two?
Our first crack at the CT4 is (for now) the top performing model—the CT4-V. But Cadillac is quick to point out that its price and performance are aligned with the mid-level (35 and 43 models) from Mercedes-AMG or an S3 in Audi’s lineup of A3/S3/RS3. This may in part be an attempt to manage expectations vis-à-vis the CT4-V’s 464-hp/445-lb-ft ATS-V predecessor. This is not that car.
How Much Power Does the CT4-V Make?
For motivation, the CT4-V uses a custom-tailored version of the big 2.7-liter turbo I-4 engine that we’ve praised in its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup applications, hitched to GM’s wonderful ten-speed automatic. The engine shares its basic block and head design with the pickups, along with the three-profile sliding cam-lobe valvetrain technology that supports active-fuel-management (cylinder shutoff for the middle two cylinders) to help tailor the engine’s power delivery and fuel efficiency to suit the driver’s demands. All of this is convincingly tuned to suit the very different mission of a Cadillac sport sedan. In its V state of tune, it makes 325 hp at 5,600 rpm and a stout 380 lb-ft of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. (In the pickups and in the CT4’s premium luxury trim grade, it makes 310 hp and 348–350 lb-ft). A Cadillac feature we love, which the pickups don’t get, is a variable exhaust snarl punctuated by fuel-cut snorts during shifts and overrun.
How Refined Is the Truck Engine in This Cadillac?
Last June, when defending a potential personal purchase of a base CT4 over the V (before any of us had driven either car or a 2.7-liter pickup), I expressed skepticism about the big four-banger achieving luxury car smoothness and refinement. Well giant counter-rotating balance shafts and sufficiently absorptive powertrain mounts must be doing the trick because I detected no untoward vibrations in the car—or the truck. I was never even aware of the engine operating in its two-cylinder mode, so either that almost never happens, or the various countermeasures work wonders. Indeed, the intake and exhaust notes are actively managed via Cadillac’s sound systems to remove unwanted frequencies, but this 2.7-liter nevertheless ends up sounding a bit coarser than the 2.0-liters powering its competitors.
How Fast Is the CT4-V?
In our 3,780-pound CT4-V, each horse tugs 11.6 pounds around—that’s 2–6 ounces less than the burden each horse bears in an Audi S3 Quattro, BMW M235i xDrive, or Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic. The optimum launch procedure at the test track is to set the drive-mode selector to Sport or Track, apply the brake, floor the gas to achieve the torque-converter stall-speed of 2,500 rpm, then release the brake and let the transmission do the work (it upshifts before redline regardless of any paddle-shifting efforts). The result measured on our Vbox: 5.1 seconds to 60 mph and a 13.6-second, 104.1-mph quarter-mile run (the results on Cadillac’s built-in 0-60 timer: 4.9 seconds).
Among established competitors, the only one we have test numbers for is a 2016 S3. That pre-facelift (and now last-generation) model weighed 3,420-pounds and routed 292 hp through a six-speed twin-clutch transmission (it has since lost 4 hp and gained a seventh cog). It hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds on the way to a 13.0-second, 105.3-mph quarter. We hope that our 595-miles-new CT4-V will perform better as it loosens up because we suspect the lighter A 35 and M235i will accelerate more like that S3.
The Hydra-Matic 10L60 deserves a strong shoutout here for its ability to keep this engine humming between the optimal points on the power and torque curves. It always finds the ideal gear for every situation, and it quickly senses when you’re ‘going for it,’ and flashes a “performance shift active” message in the instrument cluster, after which a green gear icon stays lit while it’s active. In this mode it really hangs onto the lower gears and downshifts aggressively when slowing for a turn. The shift paddles work well, but you won’t need them for performance driving. This is benchmark transmission tuning.
How Does the CT4-V Stop and Turn?
Four-piston front Brembo brakes and super-sticky 235/40R18 Continental SportContact 6 SSR tires collaborated to whoa this V from 60 mph in a respectable 104 feet—5 fewer than that S3 needed. And the eBoost variable pedal effort feels great in its “sport” setting, delivering linear brake response after minimal travel. The travel allowed in “tour” mode is notably longer. We measured 0.87g on our bumpier Michigan skidpad, so we expect to see numbers that meet or exceed the S3’s 0.91g back home on our smoother California test track. Subjectively, on our southeast Michigan handling loop, we were impressed with the steering. When set to its “tour” mode, it offers light resistance and a reasonable modicum of road feel—some of which seems to get lost in the heft that the “sport” and “track” settings add. Thanks to rigid mounting of the front subframe and the steering rack to this subframe, there’s absolutely no slop or hysteresis in the steering, which makes threading the CT4-V through a favorite set of esses both intuitive and joyful.
How Is the Ride and Handling?
Rear-drive CT4-Vs get the latest Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 damping system, which now includes accelerometers mounted to each damper, but the space required for this extra equipment doesn’t package with all-wheel-drive, so our test car features new passive variable-damping shocks from ZF. (They save enough money to allow Cadillac to offer AWD for just $500.) We’ve been very impressed with MR 4.0 on the C8 Corvette, and we’re sure it works wonders on the rear-drive CT4, but our car demonstrated remarkable suppleness on the frost heaves and other low amplitude impacts that mar Michigan’s roads, while controlling body motion admirably in the twisties. Body lean is minimal in high-g corners, and the all-wheel traction and high-grip tires enable impressive acceleration out of the corners. And of course, all of the subcompact competitors we’re talking about are based on transverse-engine front-drive architecture, whereas the CT4’s longitudinal rear-drive architecture brings it much closer to the ideal 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. This affords the Cadillac terrific balance that calls to mind a 3 Series or rear-drive 2 Series BMW.
So Is the CT4-V a Performance Bargain or Too Big for Its Class?
The size is a peculiarity. Not only is the CT4-V longer than its subcompact rivals (by 7.8 inches compared with the A 35 and by 11.4 inches relative to the S3), it’s also longer than their compact big brothers (2.2 inches longer than the Mercedes C43 AMG and 0.4 inch longer than an Audi S4). Despite heroic efforts in terms of lightweight materials use and computational optimization of the steel structure, the bigger CT4 ends up weighing 175-220 pounds more than its subcompact rivals. An A220 4Matic that was on hand during this loan felt noticeably lighter and nimbler as a result. Adding insult to this injury is the fact that, according to the tape measure, the CT4 isn’t universally roomier inside. All competitors boast greater rear leg room (and a tiny center hump) while the Mercedes A-Class also boasts more front and rear headroom. At least the Cadillac’s trunk is bigger than all but the BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe’s.
As for value, sure enough the pricing lines right up with that of the performance subcompacts, meaning it’s $5,000 to $11,000 cheaper than the compact performance sedan variants, but then they’re all more powerful and about a second quicker to 60 mph.
Should I Buy a Cadillac CT4-V?
Honestly a definitive answer should wait until A) we get another, possibly better broken-in CT4-V on our home track, and B) we get our hands on the A35, M235i Gran Coupe, and the latest S3 to assess how well this Cadillac can hang with its smaller rivals. But even if the numbers above stand, shoppers in this price bracket owe themselves a brisk test drive on a deserted curvy road in this proper rear-drive-biased chassis before committing to one of those transverse-engine all-wheelers. Try the CT4 on for size. It slots between the 2 and 3 Series BMW sedans, and if it fits your needs, it’s priced pretty near 330i xDrive with performance that splits the difference between that car and the M340i xDrive. So yeah, maybe it’s the big, held-back kid in class—but he’s ready to quarterback the varsity team.

The Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing will have manual transmission options 2020 Cadillac CT5 V Fresh off of a win at the Daytona 24-hour race, Cadillacs underscoring its sporty side by bringing back the manual transmission in its CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing cars, says a report from Muscle Cars and Trucks.The vehicles will be built on GMs new Alpha platform, which underpins many of the brands upcoming vehicles. The architecture lets a manual transmission fit behind more than just one engine, too.The list of engines that will connect to that manual transmission is dwindling, however, with the announcement Cadillac would be dropping the 4.2-litre twin-turbo Blackwing DOHC V8.Instead, the slack will be taken up by the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 that weve seen in previous generations of the Corvette. While the 6.2-litre will make 650 horsepower, the Blackwing V8 made just 550 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. The CT5-V Blackwing will enjoy the larger V8, while the CT4-V Blackwing will be happy to receive the old ATS-Vs 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6, producing 464 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the manual transmission, the vehicle is essentially an updated version of the 2015 CTS-V. Novo Cadillac CT4 parte de US$ 33.990 no mercado americano
A GM está apostando alto no Novo Cadillac CT4, um sedã de porte médio que a marca de luxo americana espera bater de frente com os luxuosos alemães e chega por um preço menor que o anterior ATS, custando a partir de US$ 33.990 ante US$ 35.495 do antigo sedã.
Além de ser mais barato, o CT4 é maior que o ATS, sendo feito sobre a plataforma Alpha II, que é uma atualização da base usada no Chevrolet Camaro atual e no Cadillac CT5, irmão que tem porte superior. Com 4,775 m de comprimento e 2,776 m de entre eixos, o luxuoso quer ser a porta de entrada da famosa nos EUA.
Para isso, a versão de acesso chega com motor Ecotec 2.0 Turbo de 240 cavalos e 35,5 kgfm, equipado com transmissão automática de oito marchas e tração nas rodas traseiras. Na versão Luxury, ele agrega multimídia com tela de 8 polegadas e sistemas Google Android Auto e Apple Car Play.
Entrada e partida sem chave, sistema de cancelamento de ruído, bancos e volante em couro, tal como ar condicionado dual zone, são alguns dos itens oferecidos nessa opção de acesso. Volante e bancos aquecidos são comprados junto com a tração nas quatro rodas, o que significa aumento de preço para US$ 36.590.
A versão seguinte é a Premium Luxury com todos os sistemas de assistência ao condutor, tais como controle de cruzeiro adaptativo, alerta de faixa e ponto cego, alerta de colisão e detecção de pedestres com frenagem autônoma, entre outros. Bancos em couro natural, detalhes em alumínio e espelhos fotocromáticos, também fazem parte do pacote por US$ 38.490.
O CT4 Premium Luxury terá opção de motor 2.7 Turbo de 313 cavalos e 47,9 kgfm, mas ainda não há preço. Já o CT4 Sport tem rodas esportivas aro 18, detalhes escurecidos, spoilers e saias envolventes, bancos esportivos, detalhes em magnésio e até freios dianteiros da Brembo, assim como defletor de ar traseiro, custando US$ 39.590.
O esportivo CT4-V tem motor 2.7 Turbo, mas com 324 cavalos e 50,8 kgfm, tendo suspensão mais firme, diferencial de deslizamento limitado no eixo traseiro, ajuste adaptativo e opção AWD. Parte de US$ 45.490.
