Which characters have victory poses?

I wanted to pay homage to the original Metal Slug games, where each character has a victory pose (some more distinct than others), so I did exactly that!

Marco: He doesn't have much of a victory pose, but he often flashes a brief smile and gives a thumbs up with his left hand.

Tarma: This pose resembles the iconic victory stance of OG Marco and Tarma from the mainline Metal Slug games, except that the firearm he holds in his right hand varies depending on his currently equipped weapon.

Eri: She gazes down at the ground with an overjoyed, smug smile and pumps her left fist into the air, tightly gripping a grenade. Her team of Ptolemaic deserters stands proudly around her, striking various poses—flexing their muscles, crossing their arms, and flashing jazz hands—their faces a mix of joyful and serious expressions.

Fio: She drops to her knees, takes a deep breath, and smiles softly before raising her left hand in a peaceful gesture, forming a "V" with her fingers.

Trevor: He brushes his icy blonde hair from his face, then strikes his victory pose: left hand on hip, right thumb raised in approval, right leg bent slightly, and a gentle smile spreading across his face as he turns slightly to the right.

Nadia: She lets out a proud giggle, winks, blows a kiss, and flashes a goofy smile before closing her eyes. With her head tilted slightly back, she crosses her arms and shifts her weight onto her right leg.

Ralf: He has two distinct victory poses. The first involves a bright smile, swiftly clapping his hands together before forming fists, and then gazing upwards with his arms partially raised at his sides. His second pose is even more dramatic. With a triumphant howl, he strikes a powerful stance: his left arm shoots up victoriously, while he lunges to the right, bending his right arm into a clenched fist held high in the air. Meanwhile, his left arm remains outstretched, now pointing partially downward.

Clark: He stands still, his expression stoic, and adjusts his cap, tilting the brim downward. His gaze drops slightly, casting his eyes to the ground in a humble gesture. He occasionally skips his victory pose, his eyes drifting to the white magnolia on his person, a tinge of melancholy softening his stoic face.

Tequila: He puffs out his chest and salutes with his right hand, his face stoic and exhausted, but his eyes dart around cautiously as he mumbles under his breath.

Gimlet: After accidentally whacking himself in the right eye, he freezes for a brief moment, winces, and then assumes a solemn stance: head tilted slightly upwards, eyes closed, and his right hand raised in a proud salute.

Red Eye: She snaps a sharp salute with her right hand, then flashes a cheeky wink, and extends her arm upwards, pointing a triumphant finger towards the sky.

Walter: He salutes with his right hand, then relaxes into a slouch, scratching the back of his head with a self-conscious gesture, accompanied by a nervous chuckle. He also shares the same victory pose that Walter from Metal Slug Advance uses after defeating the Cabracan.

Tyra: She salutes with her right hand, flashing a brief smile, before adopting a more resolute stance: turning her face slightly to the left, she places her left hand on her hip, clenches her right fist, and presses it to her heart, her expression transforming into a serious, icy gaze.

Alisa Stewart: She strikes the same victory pose found in Universal Metal Slug: Triumph after completing each level.

Your Cabracan ask has now got me wondering. Do we know how it is that Atlus decides which demons are used in what way for each game? Why are some demons just mook enemies, why are some endgame and why are others plot important?

It’s a near complete unknown. The best explanation we ever got was for SMT4A’s Divine Powers, where they just wanted a strong cohort of non-Abrahamic deities. Demons like Barong and Arahabaki were considered but rejected for their relative obscurity. In the end, the ones they chose were actually quite appropriate for the role, to say nothing about the execution.

It seems like the scenario writer might have the initial input or some idea of the story-central demons to include. After that, it honestly might be favorites chosen by the team, though they do have to consider race/fusion balancing. Beyond that, I haven’t the slightest idea!

I’ve always thought these guys resembled chao. Never mind that this is a different series of games - I wouldn’t mind a chao garden in PSO2. Or, you know, in any game.

Wouldn’t Cabracan make more sense as say, a Vile (as a god of earthquakes) instead of a Wilder? I know his design resembles a tortoise and he’s the son of a macaw, but I’ve yet to be anything reference him as bestial...

Honestly, I don’t know a thing about Cabracan, but since the profile mentions the Popol Vuh, I looked up a copy and found this somewhat modern translation:

Plenty of Cabracan antics within, though not the most descriptive. But if Seven Macaw/ Vucub Caquix is supposed to be a bird I guess it’s not out of the question for Cabracan to be at least non-human.

The introduction in the translation has this to say, though:

The Popol Vuh is the most important example of Precolumbian Maya literature to have survived the Spanish conquest. Its significance may be seen in the numerous versions of the text that have been published. In the past three hundred years, the Popol Vuhhas been translated approximately thirty times into seven languages. Unfortunately most of these translations were not based on the original Quiché-Maya text, but rather on various Spanish versions derived from it.

So as for Atlus’ information, it may be the usual story: an outdated, incorrect translation was used as the source material for Cabracan’s design, where it may have stated he was at least some kind of monster or beast, which Kaneko interpreted as not just a turtle, but one who lives within the ground to cause those earthquakes, explaining why he has a Mayan temple on his back. Granted, this design looks a bit silly if he’s underscaled, which is basically every time he appears.

Oh right, the question about Wilder vs. Vile... unless they give him a new design (the most unlikeliest of scenarios), the monster one still works best as Wilder. This is one of those demons that deserves to see a good decade’s retirement, anyway.
