Last week, Egyptian, Qatari and US mediators called on Israel and Hamas to resume negotiations, proposing to finalize the details of a ceasefire and hostage release at a meeting planned for August 15. The joint proposal called on both sides to conclude a ceasefire and trade the hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody. Previous rounds of talks failed, with West Jerusalem and Hamas unable to agree on key terms, such as the presence of Israeli forces in Gaza and the return of Palestinians to the north of the enclave.

Running a coalition government is no easy feat, as evidenced by Monday morning's discord between the BJP and its Maharashtra allies. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's NCP group found themselves at odds, shedding light on the challenges within the alliance.

A remarkable 71 MPs, primarily from the BJP and a few allied parties, were sworn in following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's unprecedented third oath-taking ceremony. However, Maharashtra's representation was modest, with only five MPs, a stark contrast to the BJP-led NDA's lackluster performance in the state, securing just 17 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats.

Within this small contingent, four MPs hail from the BJP, while the fifth, Prataprao Jadhav from the Shinde Sena, assumed a junior ministerial position. Notably, a similar offer extended to Praful Patel of the NCP was declined, citing it as a "demotion."

The NCP insists that Patel's prior experience as a cabinet minister warrants a higher-ranking post. Ajit Pawar affirmed his party's readiness to wait for a cabinet berth, highlighting their ongoing negotiations with the BJP.

Despite these tensions, both the NCP and the Shinde Sena affirm their support for the BJP, understanding the fragile nature of the coalition government. Devendra Fadnavis, senior BJP leader, hinted at considering an upgraded post for the NCP in the future cabinet expansion.

Amidst these deliberations, the Shinde Sena, initially demanding three ministerial positions, eventually settled for one. However, they anticipate their "share" in the upcoming cabinet expansion.

Navigating these intricate power dynamics poses a challenge for the BJP, especially considering the existing demands from both the NCP and the Shinde Sena. With the union cabinet nearing its maximum capacity, accommodating these requests presents a logistical hurdle for Prime Minister Modi.

While the BJP has secured two cabinet berths and two junior positions for its Maharashtra MPs, the unequal distribution of seats among coalition partners complicates the equation. With the Lok Sabha majority secured primarily through NDA allies, the BJP must carefully balance their interests to maintain stability in the government.

UK Starts Post-Brexit Trade Deals with Australia and New Zealand

- Australia and New Zealand trade deals to enter into force at midnight on Wednesday - Special shipments of handpicked UK goods including signed Beano comics, personalised Cambridge Satchels, Brighton Gin and Burleigh pottery among very first to be sent under the new arrangements - Deals remove tariffs on all UK goods exports Down Under and could mean lower prices for UK consumers From today , UK businesses will be able to sell to Australia and New Zealand more easily as the UK’s trade deals with the countries, the first negotiated from scratch since we left the EU, come into force. Under the deals’ beneficial terms tariffs on all UK goods exports to Australia and New Zealand will be removed, unprecedented access to these markets for services unlocked, and red tape slashed for digital trade and work visas. Each region and nation of the UK is expected to benefit. Tailored to the UK’s strengths, the deals are set to deliver an economic boost by driving bilateral trade up by 53% with Australia and 59% with New Zealand. The agreements could also mean reduced prices for UK consumers on favourites such as wine, Tim Tams and kiwi fruit and lowered costs on machinery parts for UK manufacturers. The announcement comes after the UK, Australia and New Zealand completed their domestic ratification processes, allowing the deals to enter into force. In the UK this required primary legislation in the form of the Trade (Australia and New Zealand) Bill.

Cabinet reshuffle in TN: PTR shifted to IT, Thangam Thennarasu to Finance; Rajaa gets Industries

Incidentally, the portfolio change for PTR came weeks after the release of audio clips attributed to him in which he allegedly charged that the chief minister’s son and son-in-law have amassed wealth.

CHENNAI: In a major reshuffle of portfolios, Chief Minister MK Stalin today shifted Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (PTR) from the finance portfolio to information technology and made Thangam Thennarasu the new Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu.

As expected, TRB Rajaa, who was sworn in as a minister has been given a key portfolio of industries. T Mano Thangaraj will be the Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, hitherto looked after by SM Nasar, who has been dropped from the cabinet. MP Saminathan, Information Minister has been given an additional portfolio of Tamil development.

PTR will now handle the subjects of information technology and digital services. Rajan, in a quick message, thanked the chief minister for the opportunity given to him as finance minister as well as for allocating the information technology portfolio now. He also recalled his tenure as the finance minister of Tamil Nadu for the past two years.

Thangam Thennarasu, who has been made Minister for Finance and Human Resources Management, will handle the following subjects: planning, pensions, pensionary benefits, statistics and archaeology.

Incidentally, the portfolio change for Palanivel Thiaga Rajan came weeks after the release of audio clips attributed to him in which he allegedly charged that chief minister’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin and son-in-law Sabareesan have amassed wealth. Rajan said the audio clips are fabricated ones and the chief minister also sought to downplay it saying he did not want to speak anything on the issue as it would give publicity to those engaged in cheap politics. The second audio clip was released by BJP state president K Annamalai.

TRB Rajaa, MLA from the Mannargudi Assembly constituency was sworn in as a minister at a simple function held at the Durbar hall of the Raj Bhavan here. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rajaa in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin. The swearing-in ceremony was over in eight minutes. Later, the reshuffled cabinet headed by the chief minister took a group photo with the governor.

As expected Rajaa has been allotted industries portfolio. Rajaa, son of DMK treasurer and leader of the DMK parliamentary party TR Baalu, is a part-time member of the State Planning Commission. Rajaa has been a member of the Tamil Nadu Assembly for three terms since 2011.

MP Saminathan, Minister for Information has been given additional portfolios of Tamil development, previously handled by Thangam Thennarasu. After the reshuffle, Saminathan will be handling the following subjects: Tamil Official Language and Tamil culture, information and publicity, film technology and Cinematograph Act, newsprint control, stationery, printing, and government press.

Meanwhile, within a minute after the portfolio change was announced, PTR, in a lengthy message in Twitter, said: “The past two years have been the most fulfilling in my life. Under the leadership of CM MK Stalin, I presented one revised budget (2021 — ’22) during the pandemic, and two annual budgets (’22 — ’23, ’23 — ’24) post-pandemic. Despite inheriting record deficits and debt ratios, we have invested in a record number of social welfare schemes as well as record capital spending, all while delivering record-setting fiscal improvements. This is the epitome of my public service, and indeed of my life.”

PTR also said while fiscal consolidation and social spending are necessary steps for an equitable society, the drivers of development and growth are investment, enterprise expansion, and job creation.

PTR also thanked the chief minister for assigning him the portfolio of Information Technology — globally the №1 industry for investment and job creation today. “We know that technology shapes the future. Though Tamil Nadu was a pioneer in this field in Thalaivar Kalaignar’s time, we have unfortunately lagged our true potential in this sector in the last decade or so. I plan to build on the great efforts of my predecessor T Mano Thangaraj to attract more investments, accelerate job-creation, and deliver growth at a pace that will re-establish Tamil Nadu as a leading state in IT,” PTR added.

PTR also expressed confidence that his own experience in establishing and managing a pioneering Global Capability Centre 15 years ago, and the connectivity with the IT & ITES Industry gained during my professional career, would enrich his efforts in this new role.

“I wish the incoming Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu great success and many more achievements as he assumes responsibility today. I am sure he will accelerate the progress already made and deliver new records in his tenure. I thank my leader CM MK Stalin again, both for providing me with the previous portfolio for two years, and for this exciting new role to serve the people,” PTR added.

शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने कौन सा राजनीतिक विष पिया, मंत्रिमंडल विस्तार से एक दिन पहले क्यों कही ऐसी बात?

भोपाल सरकार बनाने के स�� दिन से ज्यादा वक्त गुजर जाने के बाद मध्य प्रदेश में गुरुवार को मंत्रिमंडल विस्तार करेंगे। इस बात की घोषणा करने के दौरान मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान एक ऐसी बात कह गए जिसकी राजनीतिक गलियारों में चर्चा शुरू हो गई है। पत्रकारों से बातचीत के दौरान सीएम शिवराज ने खुद की तुलना शिव से की और मंत्रिमंडल विस्तार में आ रही दिक्कतों की तुलना खुद के विष पीने से कर गए।

पत्रकार ने पूछा कि अमृत किसको मिलेगा विष किसको मिलेगा। इसपर सीएम शिवराज ने कहा कि मंथन से अमृत की निकलता है, विष तो शिव पी जाते हैं। इसके बाद शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने कहा कि गुरुवार को मंत्रिमंडल शपथ ले लेगा। अगर पिछले 100 दिनों की मध्य प्रदेश राजनीति को समझना है तो सीएम शिवराज के इस बयान से सारी बातें स्पष्ट हो जा रही हैं।

एक दिन पहले भी शिवराज ने बयां किया था दर्द एक दिन पहले सीएम शिवराज ने ट्वीट कर अपना दर्द बयां किया था। सीएम शिवराज ने ट्वीट में कहा था, ‘आये थे आप हमदर्द बनकर, रह गये केवल राहज़न बनकर। पल-पल राहज़नी की इस कदर आपने, कि आपकी यादें रह गईं दिलों में जख्म बनकर।’ राजनीति के जानकार मानते हैं कि यह ट्वीट शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया के लिए किया है। सीएम कहना चाह रहे हैं कि आप हमदर्द बनकर आए यानी कांग्रेस की सरकार गिराकर बीजेपी में आए। उसके बाद आप मंत्रिमंडल में अपने लोगों की हिस्सेदारी को लेकर इतना तोलमोल कर रहे हैं कि यह जख्म बन चुका है। हालांकि ये सब अटकलें हैं, जब तक सीएम खुलकर कुछ नहीं कहते तब तक कुछ भी कहना ठीक नहीं है।

मंत्रिमंडल विस्तार में सिंधिया को खुश करने की चुनौती ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया की वजह से मध्य प्रदेश में कांग्रेस की सरकार गिरी है और शिवराज सिंह चौहान एक बार फिर से मुख्यमंत्री बने हैं। ऐसे में स्वभाविक है कि सिंधिया मंत्रिमंडल में अपने समर्थकों के लिए काफी कुछ चाहते होंगे। सिंधिया के साथ कांग्रेस छोड़कर 16 पूर्व विधायक और 6 पूर्व मंत्री बीजेपी में आए हैं। जो छह लोग कमलनाथ सरकार में मंत्री रहे उन्हें तो शिवराज सरकार में भी ओहदा तो चाहिए ही। इसके अलावा 16 और पूर्व विधायक भी कांग्रेस से बगावत करने के एवज में मंत्री पद की चाहत पाले हुए हैं।

सिंधिया समर्थकों में से तुलसी सिलावट और गोविंद सिंह राजपूत कैबिनेट में पहले से शामिल हैं। सूत्रों के अनुसार बीजेपी ने 6 लोगों के अलावा बिसाहूलाल सिंह, एंदल सिंह कंसाना और हरदीप सिंह डंग को मंत्री पद का आश्वासन दिया था। वहीं ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया कैंप के ही इमरती देवी, प्रद्युमन सिंह तोमर, प्रभुराम चौधरी और महेंद्र सिंह सिसौदिया का भी मंत्री बनना तय माना जा रहा है।

कांग्रेसी नेता कहते हैं कि सिंधिया को खुश करना इतना आसान काम नहीं है। पूर्व मंत्री सज्जन कुमार ने कहा कि सिंधिया कोई ऐसे वैसे नेता नहीं हैं कि जिन्हें किसी बात के लिए मना लिया जाए। ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया को संतुष्ट करना आसान काम नहीं है, यह इस बार न केवल शिवराज सिंह चौहान बल्कि पूरी बीजेपी को पता चल जाएगा।

नरोत्तम मिश्रा चाहते हैं शिवराज की जगह? सूत्र बताते हैं कि कमलनाथ की सरकार गिराने में अहम रोल निभाने वाले नरोत्तम मिश्रा मुख्यमंत्री बनना चाहते हैं। हालांकि दिल्ली हाईकमान ने फिलहाल उनकी इच्छा दबा दी है। उम्मीद की जा रही है कि नरोत्तम मिश्रा को संतुष्ट करने के लिए उपमुख्यमंत्री बनाया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा नरोत्तम मिश्रा भी मंत्रिमंडल में अपने समर्थक विधायकों को जगह दिलाना चाहते हैं।

भोपाल के राजनीतिक गलियारे में चर्चा है कि सिंधिया और नरोत्तम को खुश करने के फेर में शिवराज सिंह चौहान अपनी पसंद के नेता को भी मंत्री पद नहीं दे पा रहे हैं। शायद इसी बात को जाहिर करने के लिए सीएम शिवराज ने पत्रकार से कहा कि समुद्र मंथन से निकला विष तो खुद शिव पीते हैं और अमृत लोगों में बंटता है।

शिवराज के बयान पर कमलनाथ का तंज सीएम शिवराज के विष वाले बयान पर पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री कमलनाथ ने तंज कसा है। कमलनाथ ने ट्वीट कर कहा है, मंथन इतना लंबा हो गया कि अमृत तो निकला नहीं , सिर्फ़ विष ही विष निकला है। मंथन से निकले विष को तो अब रोज़ ही पीना पढ़ेगा, क्योंकि अब तो कल से रोज़ मंथन करना पढ़ेगा। अमृत के लिये तो अब तरसना ही तरसना पढ़ेगा। इस विष का परिणाम तो अब हर हाल में भोगना पढ़ेगा।’
