✨ Steps to Remove Cigarette Smell:
Deep Clean All Surfaces: Start with a thorough vacuum of seats, carpets, and floor mats. Wipe down all surfaces, including the dashboard, doors, and even the windows.
Baking Soda for Fabrics: Sprinkle baking soda on the seats and carpet, leave it for a few hours, then vacuum it up. Baking soda is great for absorbing lingering odors.
Use Activated Charcoal: Place activated charcoal bags in the car overnight. They’re super effective at soaking up smells without adding any fragrance.

Breathe Easy: Eliminating Car Odors with Detailing in Delhi
Bad odors in your car can be more than just a nuisance—they can make your daily commute or long drives unbearable. Whether it's from food spills, smoke, or just the buildup of everyday grime, getting rid of those unpleasant smells is crucial for a pleasant driving experience. Thankfully, interior car detailing is a powerful solution to this common problem. If you're in Delhi and struggling with persistent odors, here’s how car detailing can help you breathe easy again.
Why Bad Odors Linger
Before diving into solutions, it’s important to understand why these odors can be so stubborn. Delhi’s climate, with its hot summers and high humidity, can cause smells to intensify. The combination of pollution and dust also contributes to a buildup of grime and dirt in your car’s interior, making it the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold—both common culprits of bad odors. This is where professional car detailing in Delhi comes into play.
The Role of Interior Car Detailing
Interior car detailing is a thorough cleaning process that targets all the nooks and crannies where odors like to hide. Here’s how it works:
Deep Cleaning of Upholstery and Carpets: One of the first steps in car detailing Delhi services is deep cleaning the upholstery and carpets. These areas are often the main source of lingering smells because they can trap spills, dirt, and sweat. Professional detailing involves shampooing and steam cleaning to remove these contaminants, which not only freshens up your car but also helps in eliminating odors at the source.
Cleaning and Conditioning of Leather Surfaces: If your car has leather seats, detailing services include cleaning and conditioning them. Leather can absorb odors, and if not properly maintained, it can start to smell musty. Car detailing in Delhi involves using specialized products to clean the leather and condition it, restoring its fresh scent and preventing future odor buildup.
Air Vent Cleaning: Often overlooked, air vents can circulate bad odors throughout your car every time you turn on the AC. Detailing services clean out these vents, removing any dust, mold, or debris that could be causing unpleasant smells. Some services even offer ozone treatments or antibacterial sprays to further neutralize odors.
Cabin Air Filter Replacement: During the detailing process, it's also a good idea to check and replace your cabin air filter if necessary. A clogged or dirty air filter can contribute to bad odors in your car, as it’s responsible for filtering the air that enters your vehicle’s cabin.
The Importance of Regular Car Detailing in Delhi
Given the harsh environmental conditions in Delhi, regular car detailing is essential for maintaining a clean and odor-free interior. Not only does it improve your driving experience, but it also helps in maintaining the value of your car by keeping it in top condition.
When looking for car detailing in Delhi, it’s crucial to choose a service that offers comprehensive interior cleaning. This will ensure that all potential sources of bad odors are addressed, leaving your car smelling fresh and clean.
Conclusion
Bad odors don’t have to be a permanent feature of your car. With professional interior car detailing in Delhi, you can tackle even the most stubborn smells and enjoy a pleasant, fresh-smelling vehicle once again. Whether it’s from deep cleaning your upholstery, treating your leather seats, or cleaning your air vents, detailing services are your best bet for a complete refresh. So, next time you notice an unpleasant smell, consider investing in a thorough car detailing session in Delhi to reclaim the comfort of your car’s interior.

Cabin Air Filters: Knowing When and Why Replacement is Essential
Tumblr media
The cabin air filter is a crucial but often overlooked component in any vehicle. Its primary purpose is to filter out harmful pollutants and allergens from the air circulating through the vehicle's HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system before it reaches the occupants. Like other filters, cabin air filters degrade over time and need periodic replacement to maintain optimal performance. Knowing when to replace the cabin air filter and understanding why it requires regular maintenance is essential for driver health, passenger comfort, and vehicle upkeep. This article discusses cabin air filters in-depth, including their function, signs of
needing replacement, replacement process, benefits of a timely replacement, and more.
What is a Cabin Air Filter?
A cabin air filter, also known as an in-car or interior air filter, is a particular type of filter installed in vehicle HVAC systems. It is usually located behind the glove compartment or under the dashboard and filters the air entering the passenger cabin from the outside. Modern cabin air filters are made from pleated paper or synthetic filter media enclosed in a plastic housing with an inlet and outlet for airflow.
As polluted air from the environment gets sucked into the HVAC system, the cabin air filter screens out harmful contaminants like pollen, dust, mold, bacteria, and other allergens before recirculating the air inside the vehicle. This ensures only clean, breathable air reaches the occupants. By trapping these particles rather than allowing them to circulate freely, cabin air filters play a pivotal role in maintaining indoor air quality within the vehicle. They help protect driver health, especially for those with allergies or asthma.
Proper cabin air filter maintenance is as essential as regular vehicle servicing, like oil changes. While replacement schedules vary depending on driving habits and environmental conditions, cabin air filters generally need replacing every 15,000-30,000 miles or once a year as dirt builds up over time. Neglecting cabin air filter replacement can compromise filter performance and lead to costly HVAC system repairs if contaminants are allowed to circulate too long.
Signs it's Time for a New Cabin Air Filter
Since there are no warning lights specifically for cabin air filter replacement, it's up to the driver to keep an eye out for signs the existing filter needs changing. Here are some telltale symptoms that indicate it's time for a new cabin air filter:
Reduced Airflow
As the filter becomes clogged with debris, it restricts airflow through the HVAC vents. The vehicle may blow less air or require higher fan speeds to achieve the same circulation level. Reduced airflow impacts climate control and passenger comfort.
Musty or Unpleasant Odors
Over time, microscopic particles and allergens trapped in a used filter can grow mold or mildew, producing unpleasant, musty smells inside the vehicle. Freshening the air with scents often doesn't eliminate underlying cabin filter-related odors.
Decreased Heating/Cooling Performance
A filthy filter restricts proper airflow, making the HVAC system work harder to heat or cool the passenger cabin. Temperature and efficiency will decline noticeably with a clogged filter.
Abnormal Noises
Excessive buildup inside an aging filter can sometimes cause a new whistle or hum to emerge from the HVAC vents. These noises indicate airflow obstruction and reduced performance.
More Frequent Cleansing Needed
The cabin may feel stuffy or dirty even after routine cleaning if contaminants are constantly recirculated rather than filtered out properly. Freshening effects don't last as long with a worn-out filter.
Visual Inspection
Removing the dashboard panel or glove compartment covering the filter access point allows inspecting the filter directly. A dirty or discolored filter that looks completely blocked is ready for replacement.
These warning signs usually appear gradually as the filter dirties, so it's a good idea for drivers to inspect the condition and replace their cabin air filter at least annually or according to manufacturer recommendations. Ignoring apparent filter decline compromises air quality, health, and system operation.
Cabin Air Filter Replacement Process
For most vehicles, replacing a cabin air filter only takes about 15-30 minutes. Here are the basic steps:
Begin by removing the screws or fasteners and securing the cover panel to access the cabin air filter.
Locate the cabin air filter access plate within the system.
Utilize a screwdriver to unfasten the fasteners securing the cabin air filter access plate.
Carefully pull out the clogged or dirty cabin air filter, taking note of the airflow direction indicated by the arrow on the filter.
Please insert the new cabin air filter into its designated position, ensuring a gentle and proper push, following the indicated airflow direction.
Reattach the filter access plate, securing it firmly in place.
Complete the process by reattaching the cover panel securely, and you're done!
Proper installation direction is essential to maintain correct airflow. Replacement takes only a few essential tools and just a short time. With the new filter in place, the HVAC system can now effectively filter and circulate fresh air through the passenger cabin again.
Benefits of Regular Cabin Air Filter Replacement
By simply changing out clogged or expired cut to size air filter on schedule, vehicle owners enjoy several significant benefits that affect passenger health, long-term vehicle maintenance costs, and reliability. Here are some of the top advantages:
Improved Indoor Air Quality
A clean, functioning cabin air filter traps contaminants before they enter the vehicle's interior environment. This prevents pollutants from recirculating and lowers exposure for occupants.
Reduced Allergens and Irritants
Filters capture pollen, dust, smoke particulates, and other common asthma and allergy triggers, keeping the air fresh and breathable.
Better Climate Control Performance
Unobstructed airflow allows the HVAC system to heat, calm, and regulate the cabin environment efficiently for maximum comfort.
Less Mold and Odor Growth
With fewer particles and moisture accumulating in the HVAC core, musty smells and mold/mildew growth are less likely to develop over time.
Longer Equipment Lifespan
Regular filter maintenance protects sensitive HVAC components from premature wear or failure due to dirt buildup inside ducts and vents.
Lower Maintenance Costs
By catching debris before it enters the vehicle's systems, new filters help avoid expensive repairs down the road from contaminated HVAC components.
Peace of Mind Driving
Healthier, cleaner air puts drivers and passengers at ease whether commuting or taking long road trips together in enclosed vehicle spaces.
Considering the multiple advantages, small and large, occasionally taking a few minutes to replace worn cabin air filters proves an excellent, low-effort way to help maintain vehicle performance, passenger comfort, and well-being. Timely filter replacement delivers numerous long-term benefits for minimal cost and effort.
Importance of Cabin Air Filters for Specific Driver Groups
While all vehicle occupants can benefit from clean, filtered air courtesy of a properly maintained cabin air filter, some driver demographics have even greater cause to prioritize timely filter replacements. Certain groups are more susceptible to problems that effective cabin air purification helps alleviate or prevent.
Driver and Passengers with Allergies or Asthma
Filtering out common seasonal and environmental allergens and other irritating particles provides crucial relief for those suffering from conditions like hay fever, dust mite allergies, or asthma symptoms. Untreated, continued exposure can trigger debilitating attacks.
Professional Commercial Drivers
Spending long hours behind the wheel on daily routes, commercial fleet operators and professional drivers need to take extra steps to minimize fatigue and illness. Proper ventilation keeps the often recycled cabin air as clean and contaminant-free as possible to support health while on the job.
Families with Young Children
Vehicle cabins transporting infants and small developing bodies require especially particle-free air. Young lungs are more susceptible to pollutants exacerbating illness or preexisting conditions like asthma.
Elderly Occupants
Seniors and older passengers tend to have lower immunity and tolerance for poor indoor air quality that stresses breathing systems. Compromised filtration allows easier entry of microbes they are less equipped to fight off than healthier, younger bodies.
Heavy Smokers
Secondhand smoke residues and other byproducts linger in fabrics, vents, and throughout any space a smoker frequents. Regularly cleaned/replaced filters effectively “launder” lingering smoke particles from recycled ventilation, benefiting nonsmokers sharing the vehicle space.
Those with Environmental Sensitivities
Individuals prone to chemical sensitivities and symptoms from unpleasant odors, fumes, or airborne contaminants rely more on vehicle air purification to safely occupy an enclosed driving space without exacerbating their conditions.
While cabin air filtration enhances comfort and wellness for any occupants, ensuring it functions appropriately proves especially vital for driver groups facing higher health risks from poor indoor air quality. Proactive filter maintenance actively supports their needs on every trip.
Conclusion
In conclusion, recognizing the significance of a vehicle's cabin air filter is paramount for maintaining both vehicle functionality and passenger well-being. As an often underestimated component, the cabin air filter is crucial in filtering harmful pollutants and allergens from the air circulated through the HVAC system. This comprehensive exploration delves into cabin air filters' essence, functions, and the essential need for regular maintenance.
In essence, this exploration serves as a reminder that taking a few minutes to replace a worn cabin air filter is a small effort with far-reaching benefits. By prioritizing this aspect of vehicle maintenance, drivers ensure a healthier, cleaner driving environment, promoting peace of mind and well-being on every journey.

If you're in the USA and looking to elevate your home's ambiance, it's time to explore the world of scent diffusers.Buy Scent Diffuser for Home USA
The Power of Scent in Your Home
Our sense of smell is deeply connected to our emotions and memories. A particular scent can transport us back in time or make us feel calm and relaxed. With scent diffusers, you have the opportunity to curate your home environment according to your preferences. Whether you're aiming for a cozy winter cabin, a calming ocean breeze, or a blooming spring garden, there's a scent that can help you achieve it.
Why Choose a Scent Diffuser?
Scent diffusers are more than just air fresheners. They are designed to disperse fragrance evenly and consistently over a prolonged period. Unlike traditional candles or incense, modern diffusers offer a safer and hassle-free way of enjoying scents. They don't involve open flames or the need for constant monitoring, making them suitable for busy households.
Types of Scent Diffusers
Ultrasonic Diffusers: These diffusers use ultrasonic vibrations to break down essential oils into micro-molecules. The diffuser then releases a fine mist carrying the fragrance into the air. They also double as humidifiers, adding moisture to the room.
Nebulizing Diffusers: Nebulizers disperse pure essential oil particles into the air without the need for water or heat. They provide a potent concentration of aroma, making them ideal for larger rooms.
Evaporative Diffusers: These diffusers use a fan to blow air through a pad or filter soaked in essential oils. They are simple to use but may offer a slightly less nuanced scent compared to ultrasonic or nebulizing diffusers.
Heat Diffusers: Heat diffusers use heat to evaporate essential oils. While they are less common due to the potential to alter the chemical composition of the oils, they can still be effective and convenient.
Buying a Scent Diffuser in the USA
When looking to buy a scent diffuser in the USA, consider the following factors
Type of Diffuser: Choose the type that aligns with your preferences and room size.
Coverage Area: Check the diffuser's coverage area to ensure it can effectively fragrance your intended space.
Timer and Settings: Look for diffusers with adjustable settings, timers, and intensity controls for a customized experience.
Material and Design: Scent diffusers come in various materials and designs to complement your home decor.
Ease of Cleaning: Regular maintenance is important for optimal performance. Opt for diffusers that are easy to clean.

How To Choose The Right Car Air Freshener?
When it comes to buying the best car air freshener, there are certain factors that are supposed to be mulled over. There are a lot of things that people should indulge into splurging over the car perfume range available in the market. The extravagant perfumes do not pass certain expectations of the consumers, they might not be worth buying.
There are a few essential considerations to take into account when getting a new car perfume or air freshener. Diffusing a lovely fragrance into the cabin is amongst the key functions of every air freshener. An air freshener also plays a key role in influencing the mood and temperament of the occupants on car journeys. At the same tome as it is not rocket science, it is essential to be familiar with the way its scent has an effect on our psychology.
Always keep in mind that a good car air freshener can go great distances in keeping all occupants in a good mood!
The prime significance of any car perfume is that it is supposed to be capable of killing any kind of foul smell inside the cabin of the car, without infusing inside a dominating air which can be dense and might make the entire atmosphere a little too foggy to breathe. So, always buy car freshener online that is light and subtle in its approach without having a dogmatic approach. A car air freshener is supposed to be purchased depending on a few sensible ideas.
You are supposed to mull over the following factors at the time of purchasing a car air freshener:
Aromas
Aromas play a very important role in having an effect on the mood of an individual. A natural smell does a better job of improving the mood as compared to an artificially created fragrance. It is essential to opt for an air freshener brand that makes use of natural materials and offers a pleasing scent.
Aroma Engineering
Did you know that a good car air freshener not just diffuses fragrance in a balanced manner, but it even filters out any foul smell inside the cabin? This is supposed to be a “must-have” feature on a car air freshener. The air freshener is required to be efficient at neutralizing smells, in spite of the temperature outside. It would even be a great advantage if the air freshener makes use of materials that are recycled or natural.
Fragrance Diffusion
Conventional car air freshener either diffuse too much fragrance into the cabin or not enough. Cabin filters with slow-release technology. You can buy luxury car scent online that diffuses fragrance in a balanced way. This provides a lovely atmosphere inside the car and enhances the mood of the ones in the car.
Longevity
It is essential to mull over how long a car air freshener will last when making a purchase choice. A conventional air freshener typically lasts around thirty days. You can even find a car air freshener that will last up to ninety days, thanks to the slow-release technology they make use of - a considerable savings over time.
Aesthetics
One of the key points to mull over when purchasing an air freshener for the car is the way it would look inside the car. Do you prefer a freshener that is hidden and does not interfere with the interior design of the car, or do you like the air freshener to be noticeable at all times? In an ideal world, a well-concealed but functional cabin air freshener would be best. This is for the reason that it does not take away from the aesthetics or distract the driver.
Functionality
Functionality is one more point directly associated with aesthetics. Do you want a car air freshener that attaches directly to the pleats of the cabin air filter, or would you prefer a car air freshener that is required to be attached to the A/C vents for it to function properly? A premium car air freshener is supposed to attach itself directly onto the cabin filter to work efficiently when cold or hot air passes through it.
Test it prior to you purchase it
You could ask for a sample testing for the air freshener prior to you get one, exclusively depending on advertisements. A specific fragrance might be too soft or too strong for you. As a result, you could hang or spray the perfume kit inside the car for a day or two prior to you get an entire set of car air fresheners. You are required to be convinced with its floating incense, prior to investing.
Go through the specifications of the product prior to investing
A little thorough research will be of great help prior to you instinctively spend your money on a classy and exotic variety of car air fresheners. Prior to you buy natural car air freshener online, make sure you go through the product specifications. A good car air freshener would not just be a decorative, but safe and soft so that it does not cause nausea or headaches.
A luxurious interior is a sight to behold and makes the aura of the car worth staying. A perfume can determine your taste of being, can soothe your mind and spirit thus keeping you up for the long journey ahead making your feel charged up for the trip. You will definitely begin being in love with your drives back home from an exhausting day at the office for the reason that an entire new interior infused with misty fragrances shall be waiting for you wrapped in scintillating aromatherapy box provided by the manufacturers along with the perfumes.
You may mull over a few other factors at the time of getting an air freshener for the car but the ones mentioned above are the top things to consider. As mentioned earlier, foul smell plays a considerable role in our lives and alters our mood quite meaningfully. As a result, it is essential that we make a choice for the best car air freshener, particularly since driving necessitates a great deal of concentration and mental energy.

That Researchin' Maritime Life
We've got a bit of downtime - there's a trawl going down to 5000m right now.
I've rotated and freshened up the sea cucumbers, packed away the echinoderms (starfish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, brittle stars, feather stars and sea lilies), thrown a few buckets of seawater in the cold room (including the smaller pails seen below, I'm refining my holothurian rescue plans), and had a snack because This Machine, She Runs On Heavy Fuel.
Tumblr media
This is actually a very comfortable ship to live on. Each cabin has a private ensuite, so you're not clambering down the bunk ladder and teetering out into the hall in search of the head in the middle of the night (I have been very spoilt and have only had one voyage like that). The mess has plenty of room at mealtimes. There are two lounges ("quiet" and "you're allowed to make noise and have informal meetings" respectively), and my favourite beanbags in the world.
Tumblr media
There are, however, some drawbacks to marine research as a specialty (apart from the lack of job security, she says, as a short term contract taxonomist), and using a laboratory on a boat.
What drawbacks, you may ask.
Well, after my shift ends, I've been known to totter wearily into an online chat with mates and just drop random observations (you may note a somewhat laissez-faire attitude to punctuation).
For example:
you know it's amazing, you can be totally fine working in the dirty wet lab and you'll leave for five minutes and it's like your olfactory filters completely reset and then you get back down there and the nose is shouting at the brain "BOY HOWDY IT SURE DO SMELL LIKE FISHY PRAWNS IN HERE HUH JUST GOTTA SOAK IN THAT BRINY AMBIENCE"
summation: the science smells bad.
related outcome: the scientist also smells bad.
Yuuup, the smell is a whole freaking vibe. We can't dump too much seawater down the sinks that go into the grey water holding tank, we can't open the chute in the lab if there's an operation in progress (i.e. a trawl, a tow video, a Baited Remote Underwater Video, a fish trap) (which has been the case more often than not), and the same restriction is in place for simply tipping buckets over the side
That means that buckets of filthy seawater, sea cucumber guts, discarded excess critters, banged-up prawns and so on... just have to sit in the lab for a bit.
I've got a very sensitive nose. I have never been good at filtering out unpleasant smells, and yet somehow I kind of adapt to the lab odours... until I head up to the mess, and back down again.
(side note: we do actually clean the lab very thoroughly between trawls, and it does not smell all the time! It's more when you have to take a break in the middle of processing and then come back to it.)
What I do not adapt to is how bad I smell. By the end of the day, if I've been racing around in my coveralls, especially if I've been carrying heavy things, I will stink to high heaven.
(I will be quite self-conscious standing next to anyone.)
That shower is... so good.
But showering every day raises an issue. It's not what I normally do. Now, I realise there are some people who will find that horrifying (and most of them are from the US for some reason), but every second day, or when I need to wash my hair, or after a workout or, on a hot day? Yeah, that shower is good.
Every day? My poor skin is dryer than shoe leather, and I use a very gentle shower gel.
Shower Discord thoughts:
have been speculating on how one transitions from "I own body moisturiser but only occasionally remember to use it" as a terrestrial organism, to "I am pretty sure I could start a black market trade by subdividing this half-tube of Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream into small aliquots" as a person who is
1) at sea (the briny sea! The salty [drying] air!)
2) when not outdoors in the salty air, indoors in the drying A/C
3) regularly shoving one's hands into 100% ethanol and... usually... nearly always... wearing gloves while doing so
I mean this cream is the good shit
like basically liquid gold
which... could also be distributed in aliquots
okay. have decided: will not trade Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream for less than the equivalent volume of liquid gold
On later reflection, while I continue to believe that this asking price is fair, I may be pricing myself out of the market, if for no other reason than the simple lack of gold on board the vessel, regardless of phase.
I have decided that it doesn't have to be liquid. Melting gold on a moving vessel far off the continental shelf is an untenable safety risk. It just means that we will have to try to match the quantities by weight.
And that means using the scales in the clean wet lab, because the balances in our lab are not up to that sort of task.
And that means that I have definitely thought about this far too much, and I should go do something else (mainly clean my teeth and get ready for bed - need to get the energy for tomorrow's science-ing!).
We're still doing a fair bit of transiting and deeper sites, so I plan to try and knock out some taxonomic work on the few crinoids that have made it into the lab, and maybe set aside some time for the Sea Cucumber Salon.
Cukes gotta get their glamour shots, dammit.

"You're not from here." He says it with such assertion that there was no room to deny it, not that you were going to. You quirk an eyebrow up at him instead from your place on your bed. He nods to the english book currently in your hands as if it's a way of answer. Your head tilts to one side and he sighs before continuing. "Your Japanese is good, but you speak it with hints of... uncertainty, like it's not your mother tongue." I would know, he doesn't say. Your gaze falls from his bashfully and he seems to realise the implication of his words. "I apologise, I hadn't meant it as an insult. I was merely hoping to ask about your childhood."
Your mouth forms an o before you reply with a curt "I grew up in Malaysia and then my family moved here." He seems to consider your answer for a moment before nodding and returning his attention to his book. The pair of you fall silent, residual noise from Gojo's graduation party filters in to fill the gap. Before long, you notice his gaze flitting around the room as he shifts in his seat, a sure sign that he was looking for an opportunity to speak more. You chuckling lightly before putting your book away. "What do you want to know?"
"Everything." Your eyes narrow slightly to deduce if he's teasing. But his eyes hold nothing but genuine curiosity. It was rare for Nanami to ever display his true emotions but there was something about his eyes that was always readable to you. So you talk. You tell him about the road trips you used to take up the peninsula, showed him photos of your childhood, pointed out the few bits of home that were scattered around your room. He clings on to every word as you tell him about the near-constant summer, complained about the humidity, and reminisced about the food that you dearly missed.
Truthfully, you are surprised by his interest. Few people had even heard of the small, dual-part country, even fewer have shown any interest in learning more. Maybe this is the moment you fell in love with him. Or at least, it's the moment you accept your feelings for him as something beyond an passing crush but as something worth fighting for.
“I hope we can visit it some day,” he says when you finish.
We, not I, you think. Your heart flutters in your chest at the realisation. He is seemingly unaware at the implication. You reply with a simple “maybe”, refusing to give in to the false hope that he returns your feelings.
Some months later, you find him huddled in a quiet corner of the Jujustu High library engrossed in a book of Malaysian history, a small notepad open beside him. Where he acquired the book was beyond you. With nothing better to do with your rare moment of free time, you shrug your shoulders before heading towards him, making noises as you move so as to not startle him when you settle beside him.
You're flipping through your book in search of the bookmark when he speaks, "would you like me to read to you?" You turn to look at him so fast he's concerned you might have gotten whiplash. His cheeks are flushed slightly and he refuses to meet your eye. You blink at him for several moments and he clears his throat awkwardly. "I just - well, I was hoping to practice my English with you. It's um.." he rubs at the base of his neck, "it's been a while since I've spoken it."
"Oh," you begin for lack of words. For as long as you've known him, he has never once mentioned being multilingual. Then again, he rarely ever talked about himself. Preferring to let Yuu take the lead in conversations or to direct questions away from himself. "Sure, I'd love to help!"
"Te-li-ma kah-sir?"
"Te-ri-ma ka-sih," you correct as you swipe through the selection of in-flight movies. Nanami repeats after you and you nod before smiling at him.
"And what about 'where is the toilet?'"
Your tapping stops momentarily. "Formally, or informally?" He deadpans at you and you chuckle in response. "Di manakah tandas?" His pen glides along his pocket notebook before he repeats after you once more. "Love, you know you'll be fine with just English right?"
He drops his pen and takes a sip of beer from the clear plastic cup before responding. "I know, but it's a sign of respect to make an attempt to learn the official language." A soft smile graces your face before you resume your scrolling. You really are the luckiest human on the planet to be able to call him yours.
It's mid-afternoon when you finally leave Kuatan Airport. Travel fatigue begins to set in on the taxi ride to the beach resort Nanami had booked. You loop your arm with his before settling you head on his shoulder. Instead of telling you that you should've slept on the plane like he would've done if it was anyone else, he simply graces your forehead with a kiss before returning his gaze to the map on his phone.
Checking into the resort is a smooth process. Nanami makes quick work of talking to the receptionist before the pair of you make your way to your room, the resort porter guiding you. Nanami had been inclined to refuse but the porter rejected his offer. The pair of you make light conversation with the resort porter as you walk, Nanami using his arsenal of Malay when he can.
When you arrive at your room, Nanami takes your bags from the porter as you unlock the door. He settles the bags inside as you shake the porter's hand in thanks, passing along a 5 ringgit bill. They thank you with a bow before taking their leave. Nanami shoots you a look of surprise when he notices the action. "I wasn't aware that there was a tipping culture in Malaysia."
"There isn't, not to the extent that westerner do anyway. It's really just porters and housekeeping." You shrug.
He scowls at your slightly. "Regardless, you should have informed me," he grumbles. You chuckle at him before patting his chest lightly, avoiding his sunglasses that hang from the v of his button up.
"Well, you'll have plenty of opportunities to leave a tip for housekeeping." You're staying here for two week after all.
As Nanami does a quick sweep of the room, you set up the wifi for your respective devices before making your way to the snack cabinet. You whoop when you find a packet of your favourite childhood snack. Nanami pokes his head out from the bathroom at the sound, only to raise a curious eyebrow when he finds you crouch on the floor, holding the packet as if it was your child. "What?" you exclaim, "I haven't seen these in years!" His arms shoot up in surrender before he returns to his checks, his lips curling into a smile at your antics.
When Nanami returns to the bedroom, he finds you asleep on the sofa, phone slipping from your grip. He removes it before it falls as he rubs at his eyes as the travel fatigue begins to hit him too. The long flight and layover hadn't done either of you any favours but he supposes that what he gets for choosing a city with a small airport.
He changes you out of your travel clothes before moving you to the bed. Once he stashes your valuables into the safe, he freshens himself up before crawling in beside you. You smell of an airport and the mist the flight attendants had sprayed in the cabin but he doesn't care as he nuzzles his nose into your neck.
This is peace, he thinks. No missions, no curses and no Gojou Satoru. Just the two of you and a (mostly) endless supply of sunshine. He likes the thought of that.
When he wakes from his nap, you’re no longer by his side. He panics for a moment before he turns and finds you sitting out on the wooden deck, admiring the ocean view as the sun begins to set. Raking a hand through his hair, he climbs out of bed and makes his way to you. You smile at him as he sits down before laying your head against his shoulder, his arm looping around your waist.
“Sorry I threw us off schedule,” you say after a while.
You feel his head shake against yours before he says, “as long as you're by my side, there's nothing to apologise for. We’re on holiday. Let’s enjoy the peace while it lasts.”
“Afraid Gojou’s going to appear out of thin air?” you tease. He groans at the mention of his senior's name.
"Don't mention that name again. You'll jinx us." This time, you can't help laugh against him. You peck his cheek in consolidation and he think maybe, just maybe, for once in his life, Gojou will keep his meddling fingers out of things that are none of his concern.
The next two weeks go by in a blur of delicious food, sandy toes and a ridiculous amount of sweat. If there was one thing you didn't miss about Malaysia, it was the humidity. But it never stopped Nanami from intertwining his fingers with yours or ghosting a kiss onto your temple. The pair of you had quickly settled into fragments of a routine since you had first arrived.
Every morning, Kento watches the sunrise from the cushioned seat on the wooden deck. The first time it happened was unintentional. His body had become habituated to waking up early for work. That, combined with the 1 hour time difference and the fact that the sun rose significantly later in Malaysia, meant that he had woken up well before the sky had shown any indication of light. You were still fast asleep, unmoving even as he slowly untangled himself from you. So as to not disturb you, he made himself a cup of tea and read from his Kindle on the wooden deck until the sun had began poking out of the horizon.
Then it just became his own little ritual. On occasions where you wake with him, the pair of you take a walk along the beach. The ocean waves kiss your bare feet to the beat of a song you do not know as you talk about your plans for the day. You stumble across a sea turtle laying her eggs one morning and the pair of you settle onto the sand, far enough away as to not spook her, but close enough to marvel at the rare sight.
Nanami pulls out his phone after a while to record a quick video and sends it to Yuuji. Not long after, Gojou attempts to facetime him and Nanami turns off his phone without hesitation. You chuckle at their antics before you feel your phone vibrating in your pocket. Nanami declines all of Gojou calls for you and he gives up after 7 rejections. In hindsight, Nanami really should have seen that coming but he blames the cloud of holiday bliss that fogs his mind.
The rest of your days are spent enjoying the ocean breeze (or more often, the ocean heat), exploring the local attractions, immersing yourselves in the culture and best of all, devouring authentic Malaysian food. Nanami had made a list of the most recommended dining locations ranging from high end restaurants to road side food stalls and you make it your shared mission to visit every single one before you leave.
At each shop, he informs you of the best rated dishes but trusts your instincts/cravings for the most part. You point out any items that he 'has to try, at least once' and he asks questions about the items that pique his interest. More often than not, the pair of you will order a variety of dishes and share them, not able to settle on just one. Being the bread lover that he is, he takes a liking to roti canai. Although he isn't particularly unadventurous with his choices, always settling for a plain roti canai and opting for experimenting with curries instead. So, you take the plunge for him, knowing he'll likely be intrigued by the pointy hat shaped crepe that sits before you — he later learns that it's a roti tisu, or the stuffed roti that arrives. (He thanks you later.)
On your last night there, the pair of you make your way to the biggest pasar malam in the city. Nanami had a list of local fruits that he was hoping to buy while you had a list of souvenir ideas for the kids and your coworkers. You walk hand in hand, following the flow of footfall as your eyes scan the stalls. Nanami doesn't particularly know what he's looking for as he passes the snack stalls but he's enjoying himself all the same as he watches you converse with the stall keepers in a foreign tongue. He slips out of his daze when he feels a cold packet being pressed against his hand. "What's this?" He slips his wrist through the plastic loop and grips the tied-off section of the bag.
"Sugar cane!" you chirp, radiating an excited aura that rivalled Yuuji. Must be the atmosphere, he thinks. He takes a sip through the straw as you receive your change. Sweetness floods his taste buds but don’t overwhelm them. He savours the refreshing coolness it brings, contrasting the humidity. You look to him expectedly as you tug him further down the street. “Good?” you ask over the noise from the crowd.
“Acceptable.” There's a look of content tugging on his features that contradicts his tone and a soft smile tugs at your lips before you're promptly distracted by another stall.
When you finally arrive at the fruit stalls, you’re armed with a packet of cheap flag erasers for the students and an assortment of sugary snacks for the school staff room. The crowd had dwindled as you moved further towards the back of the market, allowing you a clear view of most of the stalls before you.
Nanami tugs on your intertwined hands before leading you towards a stall with mountains of rambutans and mangosteens. He nods politely at the elderly couple manning the store and accepts the plastic basket they hand him. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice the smile that tugs at his lips when they greet him in English. Undoubted pleased to be able to use his skills.
“I assume I should pick the ones that are not blackened and soft?” he says to you when the couple finish explaining the pricing. You nod in response as you begin carefully placing fruits into the basket. Nanami mimics your actions beside you before his attention is grabbed by the fruits to your right. “Is that what I believe it to be?”
You follow his gaze as he speaks. When they fall on spiky green fruits and packets of yellow, your eyes light up in delight. “Mhmm,” you hum before turning back to face him. There’s a sparkle of wonder in his eyes that makes you laugh before you turn to speak to the woman, “how much for a packet of durian?”
You look wistfully at the whole durians as the lady bags your items. As much as you would love to see Nanami use his 7:3 technique on the fruit (you can almost sense your ancestors rolling over in their graves at the thought), you know you won't be able to finish it off by yourselves. Besides, there is no guarantee that Nanami wouldn't hate it.
Rather uneventfully, Nanami does not hate durian on instinct — "the smell is uninviting, but the fruit itself is decent," he says as he helps himself to another. So, with the remnants of fruit juice clinging to your lips and the lingering smell of durian on your breath (despite your best efforts to get rid of both), the pair of you now walk along the beach's shoreline. Your pinkies are looped as you rejoice in the complete and utter sense of peace. There are no curses to be worrying about, no impromptu visit from a certain colleague. And for the first time in a long long time, Nanami feels like he can let his guard down. He feels like he doesn’t need to keep looking over his shoulder all the time. He doesn't feel the weight of the country's safety settling in his chest.
“We should come back some time,” he says as the waves lap at your feet gently.
You raise an eyebrow at him, “not sick of fending off mosquitoes and melting in the heat yet?” There’s a teasing glint in your eyes and he chuckles along with you.
He smiles at you then — genuinely, without fear of showing his emotions, shakes his head and kisses your temple gently. “Maybe we can visit your family next time. You can show me where you grew up, your favourite places, where you had your first date...” You smack him across his chest for his teasing while he chuckles at the action.
“Maybe one day.” He interlocks your hands then and ghosts a kiss over your knuckles before looping it over your shoulder to pull you into his chest. One day... when you’re both rid of this curse-riddled life.

Housemate, last week: hello car dealership please service Car #1. I think the battery is busted so please check it and replace it if necessary. Replace whatever if necessary, I want it all freshened up. Seriously, I have to tell you this again every time, if something needs replacing then do it, we would rather take the expense than defer.
Dealership: k, here's your car back! The cabin and engine air filters both failed testing, but we deferred replacing them or the battery to be nice and save you money. :) :) :)
[Housemate has several phone calls with the guy in charge; we bring Car #1 back a second time and they actually replace the things at a large discount, and promise that this will not happen again. (The battery was indeed totally shot btw. To be nice, they sent us back out on the road that first time with a battery so busted that if the car went two days without being used we had to jump it, again. It's nice not having to do that anymore!)]
Housemate, today: hello car dealership please service Car #2. Replace whatever needs replacing. We do not mind the expense. Seriously. We've been having this conversation with you guys since 2009. Replace. Worn-out. Things.
Dealership: k, here's your car back! The cabin and engine air filters both failed testing, but we deferred replacing them because that's probably what you wanted right?? :) :) :)
ಠ_ಠ
It's a good thing that neither of us has anything to do during the working day, and that we love nothing more than to drive both cars back and forth from the dealership in 90 degree weather. Otherwise this would get really old really fast.

Percy Jackson stretched his legs out in front of him and draped a blanket over them. There were few things he indulged in, but a good plane seat was one of them. He was spoilt for it but having the space to lay his unreasonably tall body down for eight hours seemed like a worthy investment. The announcements that continuously filtered through the crackly speakers were background noise as the bustle of people getting to their seats flowed throughout the cabins. He stared out his little window at the neon-jacketed guides and airport officials directing people to wherever they needed to be. He loved watching people just do things. There was something calming about knowing others weren’t interested in him in any way. That people got on with their lives despite the turmoil nobody knew about.
A flight attendant stopped next to him with a polite smile, “Champagne sir?”
“No thank you, a water please. Too early for alcohol.” He grimaced.
Mirth danced in her eyes as she glanced up at the rest of the passengers, some dangling flutes between their fingers. “Absolutely sir, anything else?”
He shook his head, before leaning back in his seat and closing his eyes. His pre-flight ritual, which consisted of him snuggling as comfortably as possible it his seat and trying to fall asleep, was already behind. The presence of a certain blonde-haired, blue-eyed CEO taking up the scattered pieces of his mind. It was crazy to think they had met almost a year ago, crazier still to think that about how much they had changed in that time. Percy at least felt like a completely different person to the one who had stepped off a plane from Hawaii all those months ago and attended his alma mater’s dinner. Although the university had surprised them with plaques honouring their contributions, it was seeing Jason Grace, learning about him that felt like the real reward. Hell, he was only half joking when he said he’d marry the guy the next Tuesday.
“Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Please take your seats and fasten your seatbelts. We will be taking off shortly. In the meantime please turn your attention to the screens in front of you for a video detailing the safety measures you will need to know while aboard this flight.”
He blinked back into the world and turned half his attention to the screen and the other half to locating the blonde he couldn’t seem to keep away from. He knew the safety briefings by heart, but he always felt bad for not paying attention. Someone worked hard to make those. He didn’t spot Jason in the two minutes the video played and then it was too late because the plane gave a low rumble and suddenly, they were lurching into motion. His heart climbed to his throat and he gripped his fingers underneath the blanket.
“Okay Percy,” He mouthed to himself, “You can do this. It’s at most fifteen minutes of instability and then you’ll be up in the air and you won’t even feel it.”
“Just fifteen minutes.” He kept repeating, taking deep shaky breaths. “Fifteen minutes.”
The plane jaggered down the runway, slow enough that he could still read the road signs indicating altitudes and compass directions and all sorts of fun information he didn’t care about. He felt the huge machine turn into the long stretch of tar that led them to the sky and his stomach clenched painfully. This was always the worst part. Take off. It felt like his entire body flew off with the plane while he stuck to the ground, superglue cementing him to the floor with no escape. He didn’t feel free. He felt torn.
The plane gave a horrible lurch and then it was screaming down the runway, grass and yellow lines blurring past them. They were going so fast he’s sure they’d break the sound barrier. He squeezed his eyes shut. Knuckles white as he twisted his hands together. The plan flew down the road and into the sky. His whole body felt suspended in space. He wanted to come down. He didn’t want to be here. Even with his eyes closed he could feel how high they were. He hated it.
Slowly, the plane started to level out until he felt his body realign: feet under him, hands beside him, head above him. He opened his eyes, spots dancing in his vision as they got used to the light once more. The seatbelt sign dinged above him, and a series of clicks followed. People got up to use the bathroom and grab things from the overhead compartments. He wasn’t going to get up until he was out of this plane. So he shoved his headphones over his ears and pressed play.
I will always love you how I do
Let go of a prayer for you
Just a sweet word
He gazed out the window, clouds close enough to whisper to, and his lips pulled up in a soft smile. The sky was beautiful. It just sucked that they had to get into a death trap to get to it. With his ocean eyes pinned to the balls of cotton hanging in the blue expanse his mind drifted. Reyna. He blinked. It was almost shameful how little he had thought of her since their breakup considering their year together. She had taught him tai quan do and baked him blueberry tarts. They had escaped to a little bubble in the forest and watched the leaves turn brown as they tumbled in bed. He knew she tapped her right foot when she was annoyed but her left fingers danced when she was excited. He knew she liked her eggs fried hard because she didn’t have time for sloppy yolk, but she liked them scrambled soft because it meant a richer croissant. But despite this she did not light his soul on fire. And he did not light hers either. They were merely striking matches without wood to burn. He heaved a sigh as he watched the threads of his relationship flutter before his eyes and fell asleep to them disappearing in gold strands leaking into the clouds. He succumbed to the bright sun and the soft warmth of memories and he didn’t wake until a loud announcement gave the signal that they were landing.
It was over so fast he didn’t have time to panic and he was grateful. Finally he was collecting his bags and walking out. A driver with his surname scribbled on a plaque stood front and center and with a quick flash of his ID and a hello they were piling into the car. He didn’t get a chance to see the blonde beauty, but the island was small and time was a plenty. They would find each other again.
“To the hotel sir?”
“Yes Luca, and then please stick around for half an hour. It’s just a quick freshen before I go to work. We have a lab meeting.”
The man nodded and then focused on the busy Italian streets they were navigating. He took in the colours and sounds as they whizzed by. It felt like a different universe. People were loud and excited and full of life and the little markets seemed to pull energy from the sun and direct it into joy. He wanted to tell Luca, to pull over, screw work, and take in the beauty of this little section of the world. But his phone buzzed in his pocket and he knew with a disappointed sinking in his chest that adventure would have to wait.
“Hello Percy,” Rachel Elizabeth Dare bubbled, ‘I assume you’ve arrived?”
“Yes Rach,” He sighed but amusement caught between his lips, “Have you got news for me?”
“No,” She sounded suspicious, “Why would I have news for you?”
“Because you only track my exact times when you want something but you’re too scared to ask me so you wait till I’m halfway across the country before asking.” He wanted to laugh as she made an indignant sound.
“Okay fine,’ She grumbled, “I wanted to know if I could close up the scuba for the weekend. I met a girl and i wanted to go out on Friday night with her.”
He couldn’t hold in his laugh any longer, “Of course you can Rachel. But I’m curious to know…” He trailed off.
“Ugh you are impossible.” He could imagine her eye roll so vividly. “It’s Clarisse. The principal from your old school.”
“Well, well, well,” He grinned, “I better be getting premium seats to the wedding.”
“Why does everything always end in weddings for you?” She groaned.
“Scuse me for wanting a happily ever after.” He scrunched his face, “Oh and guess who’s here?”
“Is this a good guess or a bad one?”
“Good.” He smiled, “Very good.”
She gasped, speaker crackling at his ear, “Tell me!”
“Jason Grace.”
“What?” She squealed, “Are you guys going to have hot rebound sex and then realise you like each other more than just casual fuck-buddies and end up getting married and adopting like six children?”
He burst with amusement, “Slow down there Rach. I know I throw around the marriage idea, but kids seem like a big commitment.”
“You right,” She said decidedly, “Kids are a lot of effort. Just get married then. But no eloping!” He pictured the crease in her freckled brows. “I want to be a bridesmaid.”
“Can’t promise anything,” He giggled.
“Perseus Jackson!” She scolded.
“Oof the full name.”
“I will tell your mother and she will kick your ass.”
“Okay, okay,” He laughed, “No eloping. I have to go. But remember to take the keys for the scuba with you. We do not need the fire department breaking the door again.”
She grumbled about hating him and then blew him a kiss and ended the call. With a smile still playing on his lips he thanked Luca and rushed into the hotel. Thankfully the check in was painless and fast and he was stumbling into his room in no time. He barely had time to appreciate the gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows and the ocean view it laid out before him. He promised himself he would take the time when he got back.
Quickly he hopped into the shower cursing when he realised he’d forgotten to take his socks off. With a horrified shudder he peeled them off and chucked them into the laundry basket, thankful it gets emptied every day. The water beat against his back, fogging up the glass and calming the racing in his veins. He gave himself the luxury of one extra minute to just take a deep breath and screw his head back onto his shoulders and then he jumped out and shoved on a pair of black slacks and a white button down. He didn’t bother to do the top few buttons, figuring he’d have time in the car. Instead he fastened a watch to his wrists, rolled up the sleeves till they sat at his forearms– any attempt to bear the Italian heat– and then he slid his feet into a pair of sleek ankle boots and mussed his damp curls. With half a moments glance at the mirror to make sure his face didn’t have patches of sun-cream and his collar was straight he grabbed his briefcase and walked out.
Glancing at his watch distractedly he rounded the corner, only to bump right into a hard chest.
“Oh,” He frowned, stepping back into a door. “Jason.”
“Hey,” The blonde smiled, “What a coincidence?” He laughed.
“You’re staying here?” It was really starting to feel like the universe was trying to tell him something.
‘Yep,” He gave a shy smile, blue gaze bright. “Guess you’re going to see a lot more of me then you expected huh?”
“I think you may be at more of a disadvantage than me.”
Jason looked at him, eyes dragging from his face down his body and eventually dropping to his shoes. Percy gave an involuntary shiver as the blonde tracked the same slow pace back up. “I think this could be very advantageous.”
“If you don’t stop staring at me like that I’m going to be very late for my meeting.”
He laughed, the previous sultriness giving away to a sparkle and flashing white teeth, “See you around Jackson.” He started walking away.
“Wait!” Percy called, “Date? Tonight? We can explore the city together?”
Jason smiled as bright as diamonds, “Sounds fun. Meet you in the bar at?”
He realised their time depended on when his meeting finished and suddenly, he wanted to cancel the whole thing and start now. ‘Seven thirty?”
“See you there. And have a good meeting.”
The blonde walked away, and Percy felt this time like he was floating away while his body remained superglued to the floor. He wanted to live in this feeling. Because this did not feel like being torn apart. This felt like coming home.
The elevator dinged down the passage and he crashed back to reality. With a string of curse words he raced for it and jumped in just as the doors began to close.
The meeting and subsequent lab tour felt endless and he concentrated on little less than half of what was being said, his mind more interested on the things waiting for him at the hotel, the person. But eventually it was over and him and Luca were cruising towards the Casa de Vita.
“Anything else you need sir?” His driver looked at him from the rear-view mirror as they turned into the hotel road.
“Recommend any good places for a first date?”
“Already met a lady sir?” Luca’s dark eyebrows almost touched his hairline in surprise.
“A man actually.”
The Italian chuckled, nodding his head as if in on some invisible joke, “The Tesora. It is just down the path and near the ocean.”
“Thank you Luca, have a goodnight.”
“And you sir.” Luca winked before peeling out of the entrance and fading into the setting sun.
Percy strolled to his room with a smile on his face, lost in a world full of possibilities. It was unsurprising then that he didn’t see the extra bag against the wall, or the shoes neatly placed by the door that weren’t his.
He took off his watch and undid the few buttons on his shirt, head lost to the glimmer of the ocean. He let his shirt fall open as he slipped off his shoes and walked towards the windows. The view really was spectacular. No matter how much he travelled it always blew his mind the places that existed, that he had yet to learn of. It was irresistible. It was perfect. It didn’t fail to cross his mind that the ocean was the exact same colour as a certain pair of gorgeous blue eyes. He blinked the image away, turning around, and his gaze landed on that exact aquamarine gaze.
“Jason?” He gasped, clutching his chest in surprise. “What are you doing in my room?”
