Croydon landmark has listed status rejected for a second time
Croydon landmark: the Thruppeny Bit building shortly after it was completed in 1970 The 20th Century Society, the organisation that seeks to protect and promote the best architecture built between 1901 and 2000, has described as “disappointing” the decision that its application for a listing for No1 Croydon, also referred to as the Thrupenny Bit building, the East Croydon landmark which was…

I’ve written whole papers on this I literally love this idea
like he sees them holding hands or kissing each others cheek or whatever and Charles is over here like ?!?!? (he knows abt lesbians and bisexuality and the like he just has no gaydar and I will die on this hill) VS Edwin is completely unphased
The other three naturally don’t know how to react to Edwin’s non-reaction so they scheme to try and make it sooo obvious that he has to notice (figuring he didn’t notice before) but all the plans hilariously fail multiple times over before Niko bites the bullet and confronts Edwin about it while they’re having their bestie time(tm)
Niko: Edwin, you know how we’ve talked about boys like like-ing boys? And I gave you that manga—
Edwin: Yes, yes. If you’re going to ask me about them—
Niko: No, no, I won’t rush you. I just wanted to make sure you knew that it’s the same for girls. Girls can like-like girls, too.
Edwin: Yes, I know all that. That was common even in my time, you know. Especially at boarding schools, in fact, my favourite cousin had such tremendous feelings for her classmate, she brought her to a family holiday. She was nice, from what I can remember of her. Why do you bring this up?
Niko, gobsmacked: Really? You knew girls who liked girls but didn’t think boys could like boys?
Edwin: …I don’t think you understand the circumstances at that time. Girls could have their beloved companions during school, but were still expected to marry a man and have families. It was… harmless, for lack of a better word. Meanwhile, men together… it was seen as a perversion, something ill-gotten in one’s very being…it signaled societal ruin. If a man could…have intercourse with another man… women’s role in society, and therefore the future of society, was threatened. … Of course, I know now that this is not the case, and that these.. feelings are natural and acceptable in modern society…. Why are we talking about this, again?
Niko: … I just wanted to ask if you had a problem with Crystal and I dating. We thought since you didn’t comment on it…
Edwin: Oh, right, yes. Truthfully, I am… unhappy… but not because of some such prejudice, I simply do not understand the appeal of Crystal. You and Charles both… but if she makes you happy, far be it from me to meddle with such things.
and then Niko hugs him and asks if it’s ok to tell the others, which he rolls his eyes and says I suppose but he’s being all playful about it. Crystal and Charles breathe HUGE sighs of relief when they hear that it wasn’t prejudice it was just Edwin being his usual self and not talking about emotions lmao
Ok so at women’s colleges in the early 1900s, girls having crushes on girls was pretty normalized.
So imagine if Crystal and Niko start dating, and fully expect to have to explain that girls can like girls and get him through his edwardianness
But Edwin thinks it’s completely normal, confusing them to no end
#this got away from me#but I also need everyone to consider this when writing fem!payneland#bc Edith wouldn’t have the same reservations Edwin does#(and dotn mistake this for society being accepting of lesbians!!! my research is a little older than Edwin’s era but…#even in the early c20 the British government didn’t explicitly prohibit same-sex relationships bt women less they “encourage such thoughts..#which is WILD looking back but this is all men who didn’t take women seriously !!! so lesbians just baffled them more than anything yk)#dead boy detectives#dbda#edwin payne#niko sasaki#crystal palace#palasaki#charles rowland#background payneland#some queer history of the day lmao

Storytelled my first CtD (20th anniversary edition) one-shot set in Rus during Ivan the Terrible (so not long after the Shattering). Had a wonderful time, my players are very fun and creative people, so it was a blast :D
Here are portraits of NPC's I've made as well as some lore notes about each of them under the cut :]
1) Zlata, satyr childling. She was actually abandoned in the woods by her mortal parents who caught up on some weird thing going on with their daughter and, being really superstitious (not surprising during that time) decided their kid is dangerous :(
Thankfully my players adopted her just as expected and at the end of one-shot she found a new home in house of Januarius and his wife.
2) Igor Indrick, beastie Thallein. He's also a head of local Oprichnina (personal soldiers of Ivan the Terrible who went around the land pretending to be destroyers of potential state traitors but in fact just robbing and murdering people) – a fact he abuses to specifically hunt changelings. All in all, terrible dude, in this house we don't like him.
3) Yuli, piskie Dauntain. Was tricked by sidhe he was serving into opening a cursed book, which Dreaming took personally. And by that I mean that Yuli became Dauntain with brand of the Lich, meaning that he from that point on had a phylactery which basically made him a thrall to whoever was in possession of said phylactery. Yay.
Yuli is actually a pretty good-natured guy, for Dauntain at least. As I said, he was a piskie once, so during the game he was trying his best not to harm Zlata and by association the players. In the end they got rid of vampire who possessed Yuli's phylactery and granted him freedom, except not so much – unbeknownst to Yuli, one of players stole his phylactery. Hasn't used it, but the possibility is there.
I really want to give Yuli a redemption in eyes of the Dreaming in later games. Dude doesn't deserve a thing that happened to him... I don't care that C20 is kinda opposed to idea of redeeming Dauntain. Rules are my plaything 😎
4, 5) Agrippina, Kiasyd, vampire who was in possession of Yuli's phylactery. They lived in secluded place in the local forest, so Agrippina mainly used her power over Yuli to use him as a hunter for her: he lead unsuspecting people and other creatures to their house and Agrippina ate them. Yay. Her backstory is pretty sad, but it doesn't excuse a thing, so my players ended up killing her.
I'm a bit upset I can't make up stories about her and reborn and redeemed Yuli in modern nights, but narratively it was definitely for the better 😌
6) Leptonyx the Men-eater, an Unseelie selkie. She hasn't, in fact, eaten any men, but she's definitely killed at least one in order to make a new selkie's coat - I used fanmade lore which says that in order to create a selkie's coat mortal or seal with selkie's blood should die. Oops.
She's shunned from selkie's society for her crimes, which doesn't upset her one bit. During the game she cheerfully asked players to lead another human to her, which they reluctantly did, leading one of Oprichnina to her. Which means that there is now possibly selkie who comes from Oprichnina – Leptonyx was looking for someone to pass the coat to.
7) Kirsa the Bloody, redcap. Leader of whole band of redcaps, she made players give her their possessions with a bit of threats before leading them to Januarius, whom she actually loves and who specifically asked her to lead any changelings escaping from Oprichnina to him. Sadly he didn't specify that those changelings are not to be robbed, and Kirsa's band needs something to eat... Oops.
There was a moment when Kirsa told players to give her everything of value they have and Zlata gave her flower crown which another player made for her. One of redcaps actually put it on, but sad eyes of Zlata made him ashamed of himself and he returned the flower crown to rightful owner 😌
8) Januarius of House Liam, autumn sidhe, ruler of freehold where players escaped to from their own, destroyed by Oprichnina. I dunno what to say about him. He's a good boy. Many adore him (even local redcaps, though they also enjoy messing with him), many think he is way to nice to be a capable ruler. For now his managing alright, but what will happen in the future? Only time will tell.

Social G20, a Brazilian initiative, kicks off in Rio

From Thursday to Saturday (Nov. 14–16), Rio de Janeiro will host the Social G20, an innovation by the Brazilian government. Its program boasts a wide range of activities.
Brazil is chairing the G20 summit for the first time since 2008. Under the presidency of different nations in the past, society met in initiatives parallel to the official program. After the introduction of the Social G20, these assemblies were integrated into the schedule, broadening the dialog between countries and society. Around 50 thousand people from Brazil and around the world are expected to attend.
The 13 engagement groups making up the Social G20 are: C20 (society), T20 (think tanks), Y20 (youth), W20 (women), L20 (labor), U20 (cities), B20 (business), S20 (sciences), Startup20 (startups), P20 (parliaments), SAI20 (accounting courts), and the newest J20 (supreme courts) and O20 (oceans).
“The big photograph of the G20 will be the Social G20 in Brazil. It will be one of the great legacies that Brazil’s presidency will leave for the forum. I hope that this photograph is as plural as possible, takes place as part of the democratic debate, respectful of the political process, and effectively contributing to changing people’s lives for the better,” said Márcio Macêdo, President Lula’s secretary-general.

The wonderful futuristic Hauer King House in Islington was designed by Jan Kaplicky and Amanda Levete of Future Systems. The glass brick facade is punctured by a space-age door accessible by a light weight ramp (curved to give space to a tree that no longer exists). The house still looks fresh and fun as 31 years ago when it was completed - only needs a bit of care. C20 Society placed it in the top 10 of their ‘Coming of Age’ selection, listing buildings in risk that are newly eligible for listing and protection.

B20, C20, J20, Y20...

What is G20? A Comprehensive Guide to the World's Premier Economic Forum
Join me as we delve into the history and significance of the G20, a group of 20 major economies that collectively represent 85% of global GDP. From its origins in response to the 2008 financial crisis to its current role in shaping global economic policy, we explore all aspects of this influential forum.
today we'll be discussing everything you need to know about this premier economic forum. So, let's get started.
The G20 is a group of 20 major economies that includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States. Together they represent two-thirds of the world's population and account for 85% of global GDP.
The G20 was established in 1999 as a meeting between finance ministers and central bank governors from the world's largest economies. However it wasn't until after the 2008 financial crisis that it became a formal summit for heads of state or government.
The first G20 Leaders' Summit was held in Washington D.C. in November 2008. At this summit leaders discussed measures to address the global financial crisis and prevent future crises from occurring. Since then there have been annual summits held in various countries around the world.
The G20 operates on a rotating presidency system where each member country takes turns hosting the summit. The presidency is responsible for setting the agenda for that year's summit and leading discussions on key issues.
So what are some of these key issues? The G20 covers a wide range of topics including global economic growth, financial regulation, trade, climate change, and development. The G20 also works to promote international cooperation on issues such as terrorism and corruption.
One of the most significant achievements of the G20 was the establishment of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) in 2009. The FSB is responsible for coordinating international financial regulation and ensuring that the global financial system remains stable.
Another important aspect of the G20 is its engagement groups. These are groups made up of representatives from civil society, business, labor unions, and think tanks who provide input on key issues being discussed at the summit.
The engagement groups include the Business 20 (B20), Labor 20 (L20), Civil 20 (C20), Think 20 (T20), Women 20 (W20), Youth 20 (Y20) and Science 20 (S20). These groups play an important role in ensuring that the voices of various stakeholders are heard during G20 discussions.
The G20 has faced criticism over the years for being too exclusive and not representative enough of smaller economies or developing countries. However, efforts have been made to address these concerns through initiatives such as inviting guest countries to participate in summits and engaging with non-governmental organizations.
Despite these challenges, the G20 remains an important forum for shaping global economic policy. Its members have a significant impact on international trade and investment flows, as well as on issues such as climate change and development.
That's all we have time for today. I hope you found this discussion informative and insightful. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel for more content like this. Until next time!

Government panel wants Croydon to flog off the Fairfield Halls

KARKAT: LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT HOW KANAYA, TEREZI AND I WORKED JUST AS HARD TO CREATE THIS WORLD AS ANY OF YOU, BUT OUR PEOPLE DON’T EVEN GET A SAY IN HOW THEY GOVERN THEMSELVES? KARKAT: LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT HOW THE CRIMES OF ALTERNIA ARE HELD UP TO UNFAIR SCRUTINY ANY TIME A TROLL WANTS TO FUCKING DO OR SAY SOMETHING ON THE NEWS, BUT WE’RE NOT ALLOWED TO GENERALIZE HUMANS BASED ON THE WORST THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN YOUR HISTORY? KARKAT: LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT HOW ALTERNIA WAS BASICALLY THE SACRIFICIAL FUCKING MILKBEAST UPON THE ALTAR THAT THIS UNIVERSE WAS BUILT ON, BUT YOU ALL ACT LIKE WE’RE SO LUCKY YOU DEIGNED TO ALLOW US TO EXIST ALONGSIDE YOU INSTEAD OF JUST LETTING US FUCKING DIE OUT THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED?
It really is astounding that the kids let this become such a mess. Like, how the hell did it get to this point? Like they hopped forward in time to see their society established, and then the space racism would get noticeable pretty fucking quick, right? So before they grew apart they could have done something maybe? Or at least united behind a common cause? I mean, were they just fucking around from years sixteen to twenty whatever? And not noticing that people are being racist? Like, I’m not exactly a fucking wokemaster or whatever but I think it’s natural to be worried, say, about your Chinese friends, when people start talking about Chinese people as suspect because they’re from the place with the scary communists. To pick an analogy which is, granted, only roughly analogous to this one.
KARKAT: ... MY POINT IS, DON’T TOUCH ME, DON’T SMILE AT ME, DON’T WINK AT ME, DON’T HONK AT ME, DON’T DO *ANYTHING* IN MY DIRECTION, GOT THAT?! KARKAT: WE ARE *****NOTHING***** TO EACH OTHER, DO YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND ME, ““““BROTHER”””””????? Gamzee gets up from where he had been crawling across the floor in preparation for some righteous attritional toe sucking. He looks positively crestfallen. GAMZEE: kArKaT... yO tHeRe’S gOtTa Be SoMeThInG i CaN dO. KARKAT: NO. KARKAT: NEVER IN THE WILDEST DREAMS OF YOUR SOPOR SOAKED PEABRAIN WILL WE BE “MOTHERFUCKING GOOD,” GAMZEE. KARKAT: BECAUSE YOU’RE SLEEPING WITH THE GODDAMN ENEMY. KARKAT: BECAUSE I STILL HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT WHAT YOU DID. KARKAT: AND BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FUCK YOU EVEN DID WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I’ve generally pegged Gamzee as being mostly insincere in his apologies, apologizing in order to be allowed to have a social life again instead of being a prisoner, but even if you don’t necessarily feel all that bad about what you did it still can feel rotten to be unforgiven by people you care about. And then after this the self conscious use of the term ‘redemption arc’ is inserted to make gamzee seem more disingenuous.

A False Dilemma
As I write this in early July, the public unveiling of the Bežigrad Sports Park project is ending. The extensive plans for this vast new complex near the centre of the Slovenian capital promises an impressive mix of a sport stadium, gyms, offices and apartments in one of Ljubljana’s best locations.

A consortium of public (the Municipality of Ljubljana and the Olympic Committee of Slovenia) and private partners (the businessman Joc Pečečnik and his company) has been promoting the project for more than a decade against strong and growing resistance from both professionals and the broader public. With 'Plečnik’s Ljubljana' a main tourist attraction and the state supporting its nomination for UNESCO World Heritage status, how could the destruction of one of his major works gain official support and approval? Whatever the final decision is about building or not building the stadium, we can say for certain that the investor has already scored at least one major victory: the stadium consortium’s financial and media muscle means that the destruction of one of the central works of the most famous Slovene architect is a realistic scenario.

Jože Plečnik (1872-1957) was a carpenter’s son, born in Ljubljana. In 1894, Otto Wagner, the most famous Viennese architect of the time, picked him out of a furniture design studio for his imagination and drawing skill. He soon became one of Wagner’s star pupils, and after graduation began to make his mark in the imperial capital with his avant-garde combination of modernism and classicism. A wider success followed soon after the end of the First World War, when Tomáš Masaryk, the president of the newly-created Czechoslovak republic, commissioned him to renovate the ancient Prague castle to become the official residence of the president.
At around the same time, Plečnik accepted the post of professor of architecture at the new University of Ljubljana, and began his gradual transformation of his provincial Austro-Hungarian hometown into the national capital of Slovenia. This was the beginning of Plečnik’s Ljubljana, as his idiosyncratic classicism changed both the physical fabric and the atmosphere of the city into a modern version of ancient Athens. In Plečnik’s scheme, the stadium by the main city avenue played a central role.

Construction of the stadium for the Roman Catholic youth sport association Orel began in 1925, but political and financial difficulties meant that it was not completed until 1935. | Photo via Outsider
The lengthy construction period and limited funds did not deter Plečnik, and one of his great strengths was his ability to improvise both materially and conceptually throughout the project.

For the most part, Plečnik made use of the existing terrain, so that architecture and landscape become an inseparable unity in his vision of the new space. The tree-lined avenues at the edges provide a visual accent of the enclosure, while the ingeniously-designed low brick walls divide the auditorium from the rest of the city, allowing a gradual transition from the wide and busy road on the one side to the low-level single-family houses with gardens on the other.

The communal gardens of the nearby Fond Blocks represent a sustainable and community-driven space at the northern edge of the complex, which has survived since the 1930s. | Photo via Failed architecture
The stadium became one of the central venues for landmark sport, music and political events in the history of the city and of the country. Later, it was converted into a football stadium, but its design and infrastructure were not ideal for this purpose. In 2010, a new football stadium was opened next to the the city motorway ring, and the old Plečnik stadium was closed.

It was at this point that the campaign for the radical reconstruction of the area began. In 2008 a public-private consortium led by Pečečnik and the Municipality called for an international competition, which was won by the GMP Architectural office from Berlin. The architects proposed extensive new construction to ‘optimise’ the commercial return on the extremely valuable plot. Almost all of the buildings would be torn down, with the site excavated to a depth of 22m and built up with basements of car parks and sport halls on five levels. Above the ground, a new stadium, with covered seating and VIP boxes on three levels, would be built, while around the outer edges of the new stadium, there would be an 18-storey skyscraper and three apartment blocks on the site of the communal gardens. Almost all of the Plečnik Stadium (except for the Glorietta and the colonnade) would have to be demolished.

As a compromise, the investor has promised to rebuild the wall around the perimeter of the plot to the original plans and provide for the visitor stands where the old auditoriums were situated. Despite the almost total destruction of the stadium, the project has consistently been branded as the preservation of Plečnik’s legacy, reinforced by the fact that the stadium – now in the ownership of the stadium consortium – has been decaying ever since its closure. Redevelopment is, the investor claims, the only way to save the stadium, at an estimated cost of 240 million Euros while providing 800 new jobs.

Pressure from political and private interests has led to the project gaining widespread official approval, including that of the Heritage Protection Agency. This raised many eyebrows, as the Plečnik stadium was awarded the highest possible protection status of 'Heritage of National Importance' in 2010 (of course, the stadium is not part of the UNESCO nomination, because of its present status and uncertain future). The independent civic society and professional architectural, heritage and art-historical societies are all united in their opposition to the destructive plans. The international limelight was added to the redevelopment plans by the inclusion of the Stadium on the list of 7 most endangered European cultural heritage sites in 2020 by the NGO Europa Nostra. All of these organizations argue that redevelopment in this case means destruction only, with less than five per cent of the stadium preserved, while building up the whole of the plot would destroy not only the physical substance of Plečnik's masterpiece but also the spatial totality of the public, urban recreational facility the stadium has always been. Ljubljana's many unfinished construction sites raise further concern; economic uncertainty could mean that the consortium would have enough money to destroy a heritage site, but not to bring its plans to fruition. The new facility also seems unnecessarily ambitious, as a new stadium in Stožice meeting international standards is already built and operating well, and Ljubljana, a city of 300,000, has no need for two state-of-the-art football stadiums. The plans for the public part of the complex could be just a way of convincing stakeholders to sanction the destruction of heritage, with the end-product even less public and more commercial.

No one from the Municipality or the state will admit that the choice between the slow decay of the stadium and rapid destructive redevelopment is a false one. According to the esimates by the Ministry of Culture the third option, a faithful renovation of the complex as a civic recreation and sports park, would cost just around 3 million euros (1 per cent of the BSP project estimate). Such a low renovation estimate is possible because of a simple and economic conception of the original stadium, a consistent feature of Plečnik’s architecture in general. Ljubljana, a much richer and better-educated city than it was in 1935, seems to have lost the qualities of the great architect that gave it its shape.

It’s been a big year for us at Onyx Path! To hit just a few of the many highlights:
For our Onyx Path-owned games, we released Scion 2nd Edition (Origin and Hero) and Trinity Continuum (and Æon), the first games using our new in-house Storypath System.
For our partner games, we brought you Fetch Quest and (re)introduced Pugmire as our first Phone PDF, followed by Scion: Origin.
For our White Wolf license, you got Dragon-Blooded: What Fire Has Wrought and Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition.
We finished up eight (!!!) successful Kickstarters, enabling the creation of a ton of new material and delivery of more books to retailers.
Our community creators led the charge with the unprecedented Vengeance of the Shunned event over the summer, and we opened up the Storypath Nexus for people to sell their own Scion material.

I foster baby kittens, too! Unfortunately I wasn't able to discover this passion until very recently because my family hates cats, and I never lived in a pet friendly environment through college. I am graduating with a Public Relations degree. I've been applying to a lot of pet stores for part time, and I would like to intern for the local Humane Society that I foster for over the summer but because I'm moving I still have to work out if that will be practical.. I held my mother hand as she died two years ago, then my brother died. Then my father. Then my wife got sick, my business failed and my car got repossessed and my water got shut off and so on and on and on.. The next big thing for me was fasting. Fasting has helped me to break my relationship with food. Learning that I don't have to have something in my mouth every min of all freaking day. Henley's enthusiasm swept him off his feet. However, after several plays had been finished, and his health seriously impaired by his endeavours to keep up with Mr. Henley, play writing was abandoned forever, and my husband returned to his legitimate vocation. Marble, tile, or slate? If it's a small entry, go ahead and splurge on the floor. But an entryway bench that provides a place to sit, a lid that lifts for storing boots, and hooks for hanging coats is also a utilitarian addition. In a uniform fashion, hang prints, photographs, or botanical drawings. (The Guardian reported that Net a Porter had 20 brow products for sale in 2013; by 2016, it had 150.) Starlet Lily Collins is another trendsetter whose thick, dramatic brows have become a trademark aspect of her overall glam look. So are the Kardashians. There's even a trend called the "Instagram brow" that some people find truly scary.. Literally no one forced him to do this, no 태안출장안마 one forced him to an upload schedule, no one forced him to do anything. He chose this series. He chose his upload schedule. IMO KR has had very few problems with design which is a good thing, and the problems with tuning are to be expected because power creep and keeping things from becoming stale. Obviously this is highly subjective, and to each his own. Generally speaking I would say heroes that have 태안출장안마 a design problem tend to cause far more waves than those with a tuning problem.. I switched to OST C20 but it turned orange after a month or so. I didn see any significant results with it and it was messy to apply and store. I think I gonna go back t the Face Shop one cause it more convenient. I sorry this happened to you. I don know what going on with me, but a lot of endo symptoms line up with what I been going through for about half a year. I been to the gyno a few times and have asked about it but they seem adamant that I don have it. I never spoke with him about it until I did and it stopped shortly after that. Not because I talked to him about it, it was for other reasons, but he basically said "Yeah. I know what we do. He would usually play his PS4 and I could chill in my room and watch tv. I loved it. I loved having our 'own' space and weren't constantly on top of each other.
