Review: All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way by Fred C. Trump
All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way by Fred C. Trump My rating: 4 of 5 stars Fred Trump narrated his book quite well, I must admit. I love biographies now. Since writing my own, I have seen what goes into them. You need to be sensitive to others who shared your history over the years. Fred tried to make as many allowances as he could for slights, perceived or real. He stayed…

"One of the Branches": E.P.W. Packard, Libby, Mental Health, and Barbara Sapinsley's clever storytelling
A compilation of three images I posted on Instagram back in mid-September 2023, of this book, before I began reading it. At the time, I wrote “it just arrived today: the first (I think) scholarly book on my #ancestor Elizabeth P.W. Packard, which came out in 1991. While there have been two other history books focused on Elizabeth since then (by Linda V. Carlisle and Kate Moore), this book by…

Thats really amazing that you put your family first like this. I can imagine how tough it is to balance all that. I hope your first few days of the semester are going ok.
Tumblr media
Hahaha really? Thats amazing and explains so much. My mum may not be quite that extreme but she's definitely competitive enough. That explains why she got on the board of judges for those cheerleading competitions. seems like a tit for tat kind of thing.
I certainly think so. I think it's generally something people do later into their careers, but midwifery is a long hours kind of job, and since I have a daughter, I figured I needed something a little less time consuming. I might go back to it one day, though. I'm excited, but also lowkey nervous. I guess I don't totally know what to expect? What about you, are you excited for the semester to start?
Tumblr media
My mom is very much extreme, but I mean, she never tried to let any of us drown in a swimming pool... I have learned recently the water park she had built on our property was a fuck you to your mom, though. So in that sense, very extreme.

Frightober Day 1 - Home
Word Count: 573
Warnings: Childbirth mention, emergency c-section mention, hysterectomy mention
Fandom: The Frighteners
Pairings: Frank Bannister x Lucy Lynskey
Welcome to my first installment of Frightober 2023! Oh, I'm so excited to not just work on these prompts, but for this little peek into Frank and Lucy's life.
This will later be featured in my upcoming fic, Never Simple Or Planned, which will follow Lucy's pregnancy with Baby #5, Libby.
Enjoy!
————————
Lucy rested her head on Frank's shoulder, taking in the scenery around them as they drove on. He had rolled down the windows so that the both of them could take in the fresh air after spending five days in the medical center. She looked in the rear view mirror at the car seat that was turned to face the back.
She let her hand drift down over her belly, stopping it before it could touch the bandage that covered up the stitches. She sighed mournfully as she thought about the surgery.
Even compared to the terror of Julia's birth, this had been the scariest experience that she and Frank had with childbirth.
Despite her doctor's brain telling her how c-sections and hysterectomies happened everyday, she was afraid that she might not wake up. That she might not get to go home with Frank and this baby, and to their older children.
And, of course, there was the sense of grief that she wouldn't be able to have any more children. But, when she had learned that she was pregnant this time around, one of the thoughts that had been there from the beginning was that she was closer to fifty and than forty. Libby was going to be their last baby anyway.
So why did it hurt so much?
"I know I've said this ad nauseam for the last few days, but I can't wait to get home," she suddenly said quietly.
Frank smiled, kissing the top of her head. "Me, too."
"A part of me is afraid that the kids forgot us," she told him.
"How could they, Luce?" he asked. "They visited us everyday after school, and we called them before school and before bed."
Lucy sighed. "I know. I guess I'm still a little worried for when the excitement of a new baby wears off of them."
"I don't know-- our kids aren't really the jealous type," Frank said. "I mean, they might have little fits when they can't get what they want, but you know how much they love each other. And you saw how much they already love Libby in the hospital."
Lucy smiled up at him. "You're right."
As they pulled up to the house, they saw all of the kids, accompanied by Scarlett, Dean, and Mina, on the front yard. Both Mina and Julia had one of the twins on their lap, but all of them stood and jumped with joy as they saw the car pulling up. Frank and Lucy looked out the window, seeing pink balloons saying "It's A Girl!" and a pink and blue banner spelling out "Welcome Home, Libby!"
"MOM! YOU'RE HOME!" Julia cried out excitedly, running to the car once it was in park.
Frank and Lucy exited the car, with Frank going to take Libby and Lucy embracing her daughter as best as she could with her stitches and bandage.
"Oh, I missed you, Jules," Lucy murmured into her daughter's raven hair.
Seth, Maddie, and Adrian ran up to join their big sister, almost knocking Lucy over.
"Remember what Aunt Thea and Daddy said?" Julia scolded. "We need to be gentle--"
"No, Julia, it's okay," Lucy assured her. "It's okay."
Frank came back from around the car as Scarlett, Dean, and Mina came up to them. He held the carrier up so that everyone could get a better look at the newborn baby.
"Hi, Libby," Julia knelt down. "Hi."

send  🎉💋  for sender’s muse to give receiver’s muse a new year’s kiss at midnight. // @31fcked (libby)
Tumblr media
he knew what a bad idea this was. after what she had told him about her life, about the engagement, all of it....this wasn't smart. sure he had power and favor here in the city but...he wasn't the only one. but he couldn't help it. couldn't resist. not her. from the moment they met he's been drawn to libby, and he knows this could be bad but -- well honestly, he didn't care. moving around in the party, dom skillfully made his way over to her as the countdown started. halfway through he reached her, taking her arm and guiding her away from prying eyes as quickly as possible before turning to her as the numbers winded down. dom smirked briefly as it ended. 3....2....1.....and then his lips were on hers. soft, slow, nothing intense about it. just soft, gentle, a little all consuming. he's wanted to know how she's tasted for so long....and unfortunately now he won't ever want to stop. breaking the kiss ever so briefly, he spoke against her lips. "mmm....happy new year to you...."

AHHHH BOOKS OF OURS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE QUEER LIBERATION LIBRARY ( @queerliblib ) I AM SO EXCITED.
Tumblr media
If you don't know what the QLL is this is a great chance to find out!! They're an online library of hand-curated queer e-books with really awesome range (non-fiction! fiction! many genres and disciplines!), and they keep growing! Anyone in the US can become a member FOR FREE. From their webpage: Queer Liberation Library (QLL) is fighting to build a vibrant, flourishing queer future by connecting LGBTQ+ people with literature, information, and resources that celebrate the unique and empowering diversity of our community.
They're also a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and completely funded by donations (we donate a pittance monthly, I wish we could do more).
I HIGHLY recommend you go to their webpage here to find out more, and you can follow their tumblr (tagged above) too!
And if you didn't know - all our published anthologies to-date are available through multiple library apps, including Libby (if selected by the library) and Hoopla (should be available to all libraries with Hoopla subscriptions). So even if you aren't a member of QLL, you might want to check your local library e-book system to see if you can read our books. Titles potentially available at your library include our anthologies Add Magic to Taste, She Wears the Midnight Crown, He Bears the Cape of Stars, Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas's "The Three Musketeers" and And Seek (Not) to Alter Me: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," and our stand-alone titles To Drive the Hundred Miles by Alec J. Marsh and Many Drops Make a Stream by Adrian Harley. There's more on the way, too, so be on the lookout.

Most libraries in the US are free only to people in the library's taxing district. Who will be able to get a QLL card? Is it a subscription library? I am watching with great eagerness - I can't wait to add a QLL card to my Libby account :)
Hello! you're absolutely right, and that's partially due to how public libraries are usually funded through local taxes. That's one of the unique things about QLL, since we're a 501(c)3 non-profit and fully funded through donations, our library will be accessible to anyone across the US* who signs up for a digital card with us! We've already met with Overdrive/Libby to confirm that we can do this.
*we are currently limited to the United States because of how ebook licensing works. It would be exciting to expand in the future, but we're just getting started.

Indeed. Ken is... something, and Sarah is great. Fair enough, I suppose.
Tumblr media
Wait, I feel like I've just had a lightbulb moment here... Are you related to Kennedy Pierce? I don't really know her, but my friend Sarah works with her. The Pierce Pierce thing doesn't surprise me anymore—I mean that in a good way. Eh, you've traveled more than I have. My mom used to take us around the country doing cheer stuff when we were kids, but I don't really remember much of it, plus we did nothing other than the cheer stuff then left again, so I don't know if you could really call that traveling.

Hey Joy! I saw that my spotify premium now gets me 15 hours of audiobooks each month and I saw hunger pangs on there! If you're able to, can you tell us what the compensation for you is like? Is it audible levels of non-existent? Do they split that 15 hours between the authors you listen to? I picked up your book and loved it, and would love to give it a re-listen, but I wanted to make sure it would benefit you when I could just request it from libby and know you're getting a slice of the proverbial pie c:
The money for this is taken from the pool of people who subscribe to Spotify and is about the same as what I get from people using other subscription services like Hoopla or Scribd.
So, if it works well for you, feel free to toss some pennies my way via Spotify. It helps boost the numbers and also the pennies add up if enough people do it :)

So a lot of the earlier audio books showed up at my library’s Libby account (after I requested them - happy they said yes). Anyways I’m listening to Book #4 and Cassie overheard Chapman and Tom suspecting they’re not Andalites but humans. BUT they can’t tell Visser 3 because he refuses to consider it. Anyways, my question is how would the Yeerks operate differently if they acknowledged the possibility of human morphers earlier in the storyline?
YESSS. That moment where we hear Inis 226 (Chapman) and Temrash 114 (Tom) discussing the possibility of human morphers in book 4 has always felt so important. It speaks to the fact that the Yeerk Empire's leadership is just as responsible for its failures as the Animorphs are.
Like, Temrash 114 knows that a) humans were seen fleeing the scene of Elfangor's ship crash, b) humans ran into the ocean near where a piece of andalite wreckage washed up, and c) at least one member of the resistance got into the Yeerk Pool by pretending to be human. When he finds out the Animorphs' identities, he's shocked that some "midget kid" is leading the resistance (#6) but adjusts quickly to the idea of human Animorphs.
So why is there no investigation into human morphers? Well, Iniss says it: "Visser Three wrong? Maybe. But I'm not the fool who's going to try and tell him" (#4). Visser Three chops the heads off of people who disagree with him. Of course you don't suggest that he reconsider his assumption the resistance are andalites. Not unless you're 100% certain. Not unless you can come to him with, say, DNA evidence of humanness (#49). Which yeerks are implied to have been gathering for years for that exact purpose.
So I think some yeerks suspect human morphers right from the start. But they can't get permission to do anything about it, won't even dare bring it up, until they're absolutely sure they're right.
