Pader Julian despite his overprotectiveness, is actually supportive of his child. So while he might favour other ROs, he’ll be happy if they make his kid happy. But, I know y’all don’t want a generic answer so here.

Yudai Sakaguchi: “What a charming kid and a pretty face too. I’m good friends with his mother. Minus points for being taller than me.”

Vivienne Ramos: “Oh—? Does her father know about this? Oh boy. Wasn’t expecting that but I guess it was suffocating to hide that for a long time.”

Oooh sorry this took a minute to answer - it was really tough to choose! In no particular order:

Cole: Absolutely fascinating character concept (he made himself a physical being out of an attempt at compassion and then immediately murdered a bunch of people, also out of an ideal of compassion and justice that ultimately caused unintended harm? I'm gnawing on it) and some of my favorite party banter only happens if you're traveling with Cole (he and Bull fascinate me).

Merrill: I think it's her desire to stare down something that caused you harm and think I can understand this. I can fix this. I can make this what it was supposed to be. The way she sees beauty in places nobody else bothers to look. Her equanimity in the face of people being so condescending all the time. I just love her.

Josephine: We are presented with a world with very clear expectations: violence has to happen, death is the obvious means to the end the Inquisition is working toward, and pretending otherwise is naïve. And yet, in Josie we have a character who experienced death firsthand once and dedicated the rest of her life to finding any other solution to the problems of Thedas. What incredible strength of character she must have to look at the world we see in the games and say "This is not the only option." I admire her so much - I could write a whole essay just about Josie haha, but I'll leave there for the moment c:

Zevran: I absolutely love "liar" as a core character trait and Zevran is an expert. I think the game presents you with a very two-dimensional person initially (flirtatious assassin) and the more you talk with him the more obvious it becomes that this is only one of several masks he wears. I love that so much of his romance is uncovering what parts of him exist beyond this performance and I love that the artifice is as much a tool as his sword is. He is more clever than he makes himself out to be, has more depth than he is often given credit for, and writing in his voice never fails to cheer me up.

Cullen: I think there's something really interesting about the fact that we see Cullen in every game. We see him at his lowest and most vitriolic. We see him unaware of what horrors will come. After everything, we see him struggling to become a better person. I think that's what has always fascinated me about Cullen: there is no blunting how we see him act and how drastically he chooses to change afterward. I have written whole paragraphs to go here instead, but I will sum up by saying it was very unfair of Inquisition to hand me this man and say "here you go, he is horribly flawed and painfully aware of it and struggles to do better against overwhelming odds. be cool about it."

last night i spent more than an hour hunting down old reviews of the various theatre productions vivienne has been in over the years, and the one i could find most reviews of is the 2013 edinburgh fringe production of titus andronicus. it’s a play i’m not at all familiar with, but after reading these articles, i think i would have loved to see this play with the group vivienne was with at the time, an all-female shakespeare troupe called the smooth-faced gentlemen.

Zack Astor: -He makes his way into the living room, face set into a scowl that doesn't dissipate once he sees Fleet- She wants your house.

fleet summers: -Fleet looks up from where he'd been pondering a cushion- I'm sorry, she ... what? 

Zack Astor: She wants your house. -Zack repeats as he moves into the room, up to the couch like he wants to sit but then he remains standing- She'll leave if she gets your house.

fleet summers: She'll leave... -Fleet points back and forth to nail down the point properly- ...your house, if she gets to move into ... my house? Why would she want that? Living with me? Why would I agree to that?

Zack Astor: She said you would if I asked you. -he answers the last part of the question, his voice tight- That's her condition.

fleet summers: I'm very confused. -he goes over to Zack, reaching to pleat his fingers into the side of Zack's shirt- That's her condition to leave you your home, is what you're saying. So you won't have to live with her anymore.

Zack Astor: Yes. That's what she said. -he runs a hand through his hair, jaw muscles working as he fixes his gaze on Fleet, his mind clearly working through it- She gets your house. And I stay alone in the cabin.

fleet summers: Oh. -it starts to take a sort of shape in Fleet's mind, finally; that Vivienne wants to make sure nobody gets what they want- Well. It's a big town. You can help me move. -he moves in closer, tucking his cheek against Zack's collarbone- That huge ranch house is basically empty.

Zack Astor: I'm not gonna kick you out of your house. -Zack finally wraps his arms tightly around Fleet, just holding him- Not for her. It's your damn house, kid.

fleet summers: It's not really my house. I found it this way. And you're not kicking me out, you didn't make that decision, I did. -he presses a little kiss to the neckline of Zack's tshirt, half against his skin- I'm not doing it for her.

Zack Astor: -he looks down at the head of black curls pressed up against him- I want you at the cabin. I ain't gonna give that to her. -he leans down, until he can feel the curls press against his chin- I can make her leave.

fleet summers: -Fleet swallows, his other hand against Zack's hip with his fingers tucking into the waistband of Zack's jeans- So long as at the end of this, you get your home back. That's the important thing. And to be clear, honey -- I don't mind moving. Not as much as Vivienne thinks I would, because I don't like living by myself anyhow, and if I do end up moving to the big house, there's the chance of roommates. Plus I'd be closer to your place than I am now. Okay? It wouldn't be horrible, for me. -he tilts his head, to nudge up against Zack's chin- But that's only just in case. Last ditch contingency. You're gonna make her leave and you're not gonna let her make you be alone.

Zack Astor: Alright. -he doesn't grimace this time when Fleet calls him honey, taking in what he says quietly, his eyes fixing back across the room- I'm gonna. You're gonna be in my cabin. -he rests his chin on the top of Fleet's head. There's a sense of exhaustion tugging at him- She threatened me. She's gonna tell people about what happened between me and her. She wanted to fucking humiliate me.

fleet summers: -he can practically feel that exhaustion thrumming through the tenseness of Zack's body, and stays tucked in close, letting Zack have a little bit of privacy this way- Why is it so important to her to hurt you? I don't get it. You're her only family and you've never done anything but your duty to her in your whole marriage. She wouldn't be making any friends if she did that to you. -that's not entirely true; some people in town would likely find Vivienne's abuse of Zack pretty entertaining, but Fleet doesn't think he needs to bring that up. Zack already knows it-

Zack Astor: She wanted my brother. -they stay like this, close. Zack breathes in Fleet's scent with every breath, citrus like his soap mixed with a faint note of pine that feels soothing in his throat- He married somebody else, after my family found out. And now he's dead and what we had is all she's got. -he says it, matter of factly, with exhaustion edging into his voice- It's always been like this. It's been worse.

fleet summers: Worse. -Fleet's throat closes up a little with emotion, because there's a lot to be read in between Zack's lines, the family that despised his being queer, the forced marriage, the tight ranks of constant resentment and fear and manipulation; and now the threat of all that being exposed to Redwood, where he's been trying to make a life for himself- Can we ... make it any better, at all? You're what's the most important to me, and you already know what I'm ready to do, but I don't -- we don't need to be unkind to her. If we don't have to. 

Zack Astor: -Fleet's question makes him go quiet. He doesn't like saying 'I don't know', he figures out solutions, so he works it through, over and over- It's her choice. It's either that or staying like this. There's no way to be kind about it. -he closes his eyes, breathes in softly- She doesn't need to be alone.

fleet summers: Ask her, I guess. If she can accept taking my house, but not forcing you to be alone. I can even pretend I'm upset about leaving. -his own voice goes a little softer- I would never have asked, y'know. To live with you. But it means everything to me that you want me to.

Zack Astor: -he again goes silent, his face half buried in Fleet's curls as he holds the other man close, his eventual answer being a low, appreciative 'mh' that vibrates against Fleet's cheek- Need any help packing up?

fleet summers: Honestly? I don't own much. Greedily? I would never turn down a chance to watch my handsome man carrying things for me. -he laughs softly, butting his nose against Zack's throat- I can get started packing. I'd imagine you'll be bringing Vivienne's stuff for her.

Zack Astor : Probably. -Some last act of service, like a send-off. He holds Fleet for a few moments longer before he finally eases his grip to let go of him- I'll be back soon.

fleet summers: You'll know where I am. -he leans up to press a quick kiss to Zack's lips- I love you. See you in a bit.

Zack Astor: -he runs his fingers along the back of Fleet's head, keeping him in the kiss for a bit longer- Yeah. See you in a bit. -and with that, he makes his way off-

"Getting you out of here!" He quickly ducked out of the way when a bullet flew past his ear, before turning and shooting in the direction where it came from, noticing with a grim satisfaction that he had hit his target when he heard a pained shout from the man.

John had been on his way to leave the ranch, whispers had started and he had hated how some people looked at him, beginning to recognize who he really was. That he wasn't Jim Milton, a ranch hand, but John Marston, a wanted outlaw and former member of the Van der Linde gang with a 2500$ bounty on his head. Whoever had made the 'Infamous gunslingers' series of cigerrette cards should be damned. They only brought him trouble. And while he hadn't wanted to leave Vivienne behind, he knew that he had too. She meant a lot to him and that was exactly why he couldn't be selfish and pull her into the mess that was his life. The law wouldn't care that she had done nothing, being affiliated with him in any way was enough in their eyes.

It was in the middle of the night when John had gone, riding further south and avoiding the nearest town. That was until the shooting had started and flames could be seen on the horizon. He knew exactly where it came from and his heart had constricted with fear. He had spurred his horse into a gallop, hurrying back to the ranch as fast as he could.

There was no hesitation or mercy as he shot the gang members down, getting the first of them by surprise. He remembered them, they had tried to stir up shit several times when he had worked at the ranch. It was easy to fall back into the old rhythm. Get cover, reload, shoot and get cover again, until all of them were dead or you reached your goal.

He couldn't describe the relief he felt as he came up to Viviennes room only to find her unharmed. John knew he must have been quiet a sight. Blood splattered on his clothes and face, one hand keeping a tight grip on his pistol while he had his rifle on his back and another pistol in his second holster.

"I ain't sure how many are still out there, but right now is our best chance to get out of this mess alive!" And while he was a very good shot, even he would have trouble alone if they decided to regroup and start a more organized assault.

The reason Vivienne Frollo named Claude his first name is very easy. Her best friend was a pianist & her collaborator Claudette de Châteaupers (yes Phoebus’ mother who is nothing like her shitbag son & still very much alive & disappointed in her shitbag son) so she named her firstborn after her. But Ignace? His middle name? That came to her on the spot, originally she was going to choose Marigold… But then she held him & looked into his eyes. He hadn’t smiled for the midwife once but he’d smiled for her & those wide pale eyes lit up like a… Fire. There was no forethought of symbolic irony in his middle name being Ignace… Just a mother who saw a beautiful flame in her son’s eyes the first time she ever got to look at his face.

That’s why despite all the dramatic belly aching he does about how much he hates his entire name he IMMEDIATELY corrects people if they get it wrong & would never think of actually changing it… His name is the name his mother chose for him & besides her ring one of the last pieces he has to hold of her. Why would he ever let that go?

It’s also why he doesn’t tell most people he casually knows his middle name. It’s special to him so only special people to him get to know what it is.
