Australia also has native honeybees - tetragonula carbonaria and tetragonula hockingsi, both of which are stingless, as well as a bunch of non-social bees. T. carbonaria is the one most commonly kept by beekeepers, is native to the east coast of Australia from roughly Bega all the way to northern Queensland, though T. hockingsi is more common north of the tropic of capricorn, because T. carbonaria doesn't tolerate temps higher than 42°C.
They build spiral shaped brood cells,
Tumblr media
and store their honey in a separate section of the hive in 'pots', made of resin collected from trees
Tumblr media
Photos from wikipedia and the ABC.
Interestingly, their honey is chemically different to European honeybee honey, containing trehalulose rather than sucrose, because they convert sucrose to trehalulose when making their honey, and being about 26% water. According to this ABC article trehalulose doesn't spike blood sugar like other sugars, which is neat. Apparently the honey tastes less sweet than European honeybee honey and a bit citrusy, and is darker and thinner.
The little guys themselves are harmless to humans, less than 5mm long, and generally don't go further than 500m from their hive.
Another cool fact about the Americas and food.
It is common to say that the Americas don't have any native honeybees, but Central and South America very, very much do!
They belong to a different group, stingless bees or meliponines, and various indigenous groups have practiced beekeeping and have had honey since long before the Colombian exchange
Unfortunately they are becoming endangered because introduced bees are more profitable and we all are forced to survive under capitalism :(

flight plan: part 2
no planes in this one - just some good old-fashioned sickfic! But if you want the backstory, check out part 1 here.
“A, can you hand me my glass of water? Pleaaaase?” B sticks out their bottom lip in a pout, and A can’t help but laugh.
“Okay, you. It’s been four days and I know you’re getting better, because you’re getting pesky again.” A straightens the blankets and slides their hand up to feel B’s cheek. “Still a little warm, but I think you’re on your way out of the woods.”
“So I should milk this while I can?” B flutters their eyelashes and gives a pitifully fake cough, which slips into a real one, sharp and rattling. Concern flits across A’s eyes, and they help B take a few sips from the glass.
Despite the joking, A didn’t kid themselves about how sick B had been, or how awful they’d truly felt after getting off the plane. The first two days had been nightmarish - B barely conscious, shivering with chills and sweating through their sheets, alternating between terrifying fever dreams and inconsolable moaning and weeping.
A did their best to hold them through it, but they had been minutes away from hauling B to the hospital. Thankfully B’s fever had spiked just one final time before settling into general low-grade misery.
“As long as you need me, sweetheart, you’ve got me.” B gives a tired smile and pulls the blanket to their chin, huddling around the new stuffed animal A gave them at the airport.
“Did you call C?”
“Ah, not yet. Too busy with you, ya sick little bean.” A gently fluffs B’s hair. “You rest, and I’ll give them a call now.”
But C doesn’t pick up. Nor do they pick up an hour later, leaving A stuck with the unpleasant task of leaving a voicemail.
“Um, hi…this is A. I just wanted to call and let you know that B’s on the mend. They’re still pretty weak, but I think things are looking up. So…yeah. Thanks for everything you did for B - once they were feeling better, they told me all about what you did. And I…well, I care a lot about them. Obviously. So I appreciate it. I guess you can call back if you-”
The message cuts off, and A groans. Hopefully that was enough. Still, they couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling in the pit of their stomach.
Later, they settle in with B to watch a movie, B’s head cradled in their lap as A combs their fingers soothingly through their hair, reveling in the sheer normalcy of it all. They both end up falling asleep, and when A blinks awake as the credits roll, they notice a missed call from C. B’s still out, so they click to listen to the voicemail.
“Hey, A….sorry I *coughs*…missed you earlier. Wasn’t able to *sniffs* make it to the phone. So glad to hear that B’s *cough cough* doing better. I think they did a little sharing.” C laughs weakly, but A can hear the sheer exhaustion in their voice. “Anyways, glad they had you. And if you’ve got any survival tips, feel free to pass them along…..I’m just kidding. *cough* I’ll be fine. Anyways, I’ll…see you around, I guess.” They pause briefly, like they want to say something more, but a coughing fit steals their breath away, and the message ends with a click cutting off the rough gasps.
The pit in A’s stomach comes back. C sounds sick.
“Who….who was that?” B mumbles from their spot on A’s lap.
“It was C. They called back and they….didn’t sound so good.”
B’s eyes snap to meet A’s, more alert than they have been in days. “Did they sound like me?”
C pauses. They hadn’t thought about not telling B, but in hindsight, maybe they should have. After all, it’d only flood B with guilt, and they needed all the energy they had to get well. But one look at B’s concern, and they knew they wouldn’t be able to lie.
“Yeah. They did.” Immediately B struggles to push themselves up, throwing their blanket off their shoulders and trying to stand.
“Whoa, hold it there. Where do you think you’re going?”
“To C. If they’re sick, it’s from me, and if any hints from the past four days of living with me are any indication, we gotta help them.”
A throws their hands up, pressing B back on the couch. “Hold up. We don’t know them, we don’t know if someone’s already taking care of them, and we don’t know where they live. I’m sure they’re-“
B frantically shakes their head. “You didn’t hear them. On the plane. From what they said…I don’t think they have anyone. I have to go.”
A chews their lip. “Well, let’s get things straight first. You’re in no shape to go help them. Which leaves me. A random stranger they don’t know. And you want me to check on them?”
The question was meant to be sarcastic, but B nods vigorously and fear fills their eyes with a fevered anxiety. “A, you saw how sick I was. You think anyone’s gonna be able to fight through that alone?”
A sighs wearily. They could blame it on the fact that arguing with a sick B was like arguing with a brick wall. But truthfully, what did their heart in was the thought of B alone on that plane, sick and shivering and miserable, if C hadn’t helped.
Fine. They’d send a text.
You okay? You sounded kinda rough on the phone. B was worried….
A few moments later, C responds.
Eh, I’ve felt better. But thank you for asking. And tell B not to feel bad. They were a better seatmate than most.
A smile tugs at A. At least this C was polite.
Is there anything you need? B said something about you being by yourself.
This pause was longer. The dots appeared and disappeared a few times, before a message came through.
I hate to take advantage, but is there ANY way you could bring over some cough medicine? I ran out a couple days ago. No worries if not - I can figure it out.
C’s heart sank. So they were alone. Sure, they didn’t say it - but any good friend or significant other worth their salt wouldn’t leave someone they loved without medicine for days.
I’ll bring some to you! Want to meet somewhere neutral, or just want me to drop it off?
In moments, C sends a response and an address.
Dropping off is fine. You are an actual lifesaver.
A settles B into bed with blankets, a cup of water, hot tea, and six types of medicine on the side table. “Now if you get worse, call me and I’ll turn around immediately. Nothing’s more important than you, okay?”
B shook their head. “I’ll be fine. They need someone.”
A heaves a sigh. “You’re too good, you.” They give B a quick forehead kiss, and head out into the night.
By the time they get to C’s apartment, their stomach is flip-flopping - C is a stranger. A lonely stranger, but a random stranger nonetheless. They come to C’s door and knock tentatively, gripping the paper bag of cough medicine (plus some cough drops and Tylenol for good measure), and hold their breath.
Nothing. A few minutes go by and A knocks again. They’re ready to break down the door if C doesn’t answer soon, but they realize what took so long right after they hear the click of the deadbolt.
A had seen corpses that looked more alive than C did right now. They lean heavily on the doorframe, sweat beaded on their forehead, a thick grey throw blanket clutched tightly around their shoulders. Their face is hollow and devoid of color, lips dry and cracked, their hair mussed and matted to their head. The cool night air hits their fevered body, triggering a round of chills that make them shudder. Despite their misery, a tiny light of gratitude flits across their eyes, and they stare incredulously at the paper bag in A’s hands.
“C….” A’s jaw drops to the ground.
“A, I seriously owe you one.” C tries to laugh, but it turns into a wheezing chest cough, high pitched and tense as they fight to catch their breath. Their eyes blink slowly, and they start to slide down the doorframe, but A grabs them and they both tumble inside.
Even through the blanket, A can feel C’s every bone. C weakly clings to A as they stumble toward the couch, and A deposits them on the cushions before tearing into the package of meds.
“What have you taken so far today?” A asks, trying to figure out the dosages.
“I….nothing…” C mumbles. A meets their eyes in disbelief before cracking open the blister packet and retrieving a proper dose. Grabbing an empty glass on the side table, they fill it before helping C choke the pills down. C greedily gulps the whole glass, breathing heavily once they’ve drained it.
“Water…water’s good.” C smiles blearily - they’re almost completely out of it. A presses a hand to the side of C’s neck, and C flinches at the cool touch. Their neck feels like a bank of hot coals, slick with sweat, lymph nodes sore and swollen. Their forehead isn’t much cooler either.
“C, when’s the last time you ate or drank anything?”
C cocks their head like A just asked them to recite the entire periodic table. “I….not sure? Days….kinda blurry.”
A’s seen enough. “C, you’ve got to go to the hospital. I haven’t even seen your temp, but you’re burning up even worse than B was.”
C frantically grasps at A’s wrists, sharp panic flooding their eyes. “Please…no…no hospital. I can’t. The meds….I’m fine here. Please.” A shiver wracks their body, and they hunch their shoulders, wrapping themselves back up and pulling the blanket over their nose. “Please. You can go now.”
“C, you need help-“
“I don’t.” Their voice breaks on the last word, cut off by a brief hiccuping sob.
Confusion rises through A - one minute C’s a grateful wreck, and the next moment they’re demanding they leave?
“C, I don’t understand-“
“You don’t get it. You think it feels all nice, having people care about you. Making you feel like you matter. And then they leave you. Get tired of you. Decide you’re not worth it. And it hurts worse than if they were never there at all.” C scrubs their eye with the corner of their blanket and sniffles as tears run down their cheeks. “I can’t let it happen again. I have to be alone. So just go. Please.”
A’s speechless. They kneel down next to the couch, hand tentatively hovering above C.
“C, is it okay if I put my hand on you right now?” C’s still sniffling, but they nod and mumble a weak “yes”, and A gently lets their hand rest on this stranger’s shoulder.
“C, I want to respect what you want right now. But you should know that you’re very sick. And you’ve managed in your own way - how, I have no idea - but you need some help right now. Now I can either call the hospital and let them handle it, or take you home with me. It’s up to you. Otherwise, you need to look me in the eye and tell me honestly that you want to be left alone through this.”
They squeeze C’s shoulder, and it triggers a deep gasping sob from their broken, aching body, sending a fault line straight through A’s heart. The sob turns to weeping, and A can barely make out the words C whimpers: "I don't want to hurt anymore."
God, who broke this poor thing? A bites their lip. C’s losing it. They’re running out of options short of forcing C to come with them, and that’s the last thing they want to do to a delirious, love-starved person who’s known them all of 6 minutes.
“C, I’m not gonna hurt you. I want to help you. Heck, even B wants to help you. I had to practically pin them down to the bed before leaving, they were so hell bent on this rescue.”
C’s red, swollen eyes meet A’s. “You mean….they asked after me?”
“Yes. They did. They could hardly stop talking about you once they came to their senses.” A rubs C’s knee through the blankets. “And they’d never forgive me if I left you here alone - they were very adamant about that. So if you want to save me a lot of arguing with and consoling of a very sad B, you’d actually be doing me a favor coming back with me.”
C seems to be weighing their options, all while struggling to stay awake on the couch. “I mean…if it saves you the trouble….”
A’s the one nodding vigorously now. “Please. It would.” Please. Just come back with me. I can’t leave you here like this. But I don’t know what else to do.
C presses themselves up off the couch with a single shaking arm. “Well, if it’d help you, then I accept.” And then they promptly pass out into A’s waiting arms.
It’s late when A gets back home with a limp C, and B is knocked out in their room, light still on - they’d tried to wait up, but their body still craved rest.
A carries C over the threshold and into the house. They gently lay the bundle on the bed and feel their forehead - still too hot, but the medicine seemed to be working. They manage to wake C up enough to take a few sips of broth from a mug before they pass out again.
For the briefest moment, A lets their hand touch C's shoulder again, making a silent promise they barely know how to keep: I don't know who broke you, but I'm not gonna let you hurt any more. I won't allow it.
A wave of exhaustion floods their body as they feel the effects of several late nights and long days of caretaking. They'd be no good to anyone if they didn't get any rest. A drapes an extra blanket over C’s sleeping form and heads for the couch for the night - they’d check back in an hour or so.
--------------------------
B’s awakened by the sound of sniffling. And it’s not theirs. They blink tentatively in the lamplight, sleep clouding their thoughts. Snatching a blanket from the top of their bed, they wrap up, stuffed animal under one arm, and shuffle across the hall to see where the sound is coming from.
It’s C, swathed in two blankets, holding a wad of tissues and trembling like a leaf. B flicks on the bedside table lamp, and C winces at the light. B can see the tear stains on their cheeks.
“Cold,” C whimpers, coughing weakly. Pity floods B - it’s like looking at a picture of themselves just a few days ago. They reach out and put their hand on C’s head, and C leans into the touch.
“Yeah, this part sucks,” B says softly, guilt flooding their core. Sure, they didn’t mean to make C sick. But they did. And they felt a certain responsibility to make sure they made it through okay - just like C had cared for them on the plane.
“Can I get you anything? Another blanket, tea, medicine?”
“Throat hurts…water…please?” B nods and places the stuffed animal next to C before beginning the long, slow shuffle to the kitchen. A’s asleep on the couch, and they can’t bear to wake them up for something this small. But by the time they get to the kitchen, their legs are trembling with exertion. Easy there. You’re still sick, too.
They brace themselves against the sink as the glass fills, and will themselves to make the final journey back to C. By the time they’ve returned, the glass feels like a lead weight in their hand, and their entire body is chilled and shivery all over. They do their best to help C take a few sips, holding the glass with trembling hands, bracing themselves on the bed so they don’t tip over.
“Thank….thank you,” C’s grateful eyes meet theirs, and in a split second B knows the effort was worth it. But the validation is replaced with a bout of lightheadedness that nearly topples them onto C.
“Sorry,” B gasps. “Still not up to marathons yet. Just...need a minute.” They tug their blanket tighter, closing their eyes. “And this body forgot how to stay warm when I do stuff.” C’s eyes flood with concern - even in their fevered haze, they can see B struggling.
"Want to sit for a minute?" C asks softly, patting the open spot next to them on the bed. “I’m still cold, too.”
B wriggles into the spot, propping themselves up on pillows and pulling blankets over them both. "Just a minute - you need your sleep."
C's already dozing. "S'okay. I'll sleep just fine. 'Sides, you're warm." C's nestled themselves into B's side, head resting on their chest, and B wraps an arm around C's shoulder and holds them close. They’re warm, too. Just a minute....
Many minutes later, A pokes their head in to check in on C - and finds two sick peas in a pod curled up together, C's head still on B's chest, B's arm curled protectively around C, stuffed animal squished between them, both tangled in blankets and Kleenexes.
In spite of their own exhaustion, A smiles. After everything that had happened, they had a feeling C wouldn't ever be alone again.

Hello there! I love your work, and I was hoping if I can request a Levi x Reader where the reader is going through a terrible sickness and there's a likely chance they'll die. But Levi's there for her and refusing her to die, so he's doing all he can do to keep them alive.
Tumblr media
C/n: loved writing this! Thanks for requesting and I hope that you enjoy 🤍
——————————————————————————
Painful Resistance. (Levi x Reader)
Y/n sat next to Levi and the other Vets as supper was served. The day was long but worth it since Erwin got a huge supply of meat for the Survey Corps. Everyone drank, ate and laughed while they chatted and enjoyed the night.
Levi took a sip of his tea and placed his cup down then reached over and grasped Y/n’s hand. He suddenly turned and looked at her. “Y/n? Are you okay? You’re burning up.” Levi asks as he checks her temperature. “I..don’t know. I’ve been like this since the morning.” She answers and blinks away the blurriness that formed in her eyes. “You don’t look too good, Y/n.” Mike says and Y/n holds her head. “Levi, this headache is killing me.” She whispers and Levi gulps slightly. “It’s ok. Come on, let’s get you to bed.” He gets up with her and holds her as they begin to walk.
Y/n abruptly stopped and held Levi’s bicep tightly. “Y/n?” She sighs and sways forward, eyes rolling back and collapsed. Luckily, Levi caught her before she hit the floor and yelled for Hange.
~~~~
“A fever?” Levi asks and Hange with Moblit nods. “Levi, it’s not an ordinary one. This has been building up for weeks and it caused a type of fever that…it’s fatal, Levi.” Hange sighs and Levi shakes his head. “No. No, I don’t believe you. She can’t be that sick. The fever will go down, right? Right?! Hange!” Levi yells and Hange puts her head down.
“Captain, right now all we can do is watch over her. Make sure she doesn’t spike in temp or suddenly drop. She needs to be in a special room.” Moblit butts in.
“Would I be able to be with her?” Levi asks, stepping forward in a threatening manner.
“Yes, but sir-..”
“No buts. She’s my wife and I won’t be taking any excuses. Just..fix her. Do something.”
~~~~
Y/n was moved to a cooler wing of the castle with large windows and the best care. Levi made sure he got her the best doctors Paradis could offer, he even stropped so low into using his title of Humanity’s Strongest to get them.
He didn’t care. He just wanted Y/n to be okay.
Right now, it’s been four weeks since Y/n slipped into a coma and gave the doctors a health scare. It was terrifying because she had to incubated. Levi stood and watch in horror as they shoved the rod into his wife’s throat and almost threw up at the sight. Not in disgust, but in shock and scare.
Levi stayed with her all this time, Erwin being kind enough to sign him off until Y/n woke up, and in that time she got worse. The color in her cheeks started to disappear and her face falling. She lost so much of weight. Her collarbones being prominent and cheeks hollowing. It reminded him…it made him remember of how he watched his mother slowly die.
He shook his head and held Y/n’s hand as he cried. “This can’t be happening. Not again. Please.” He whispers as he grip tightens. Levi looked at her sleeping face and kissed the back of her hand. “Don’t do this, Y/n. You can’t leave. Not now. Not ever. You promised, idiot. You promised me. Fight. Please,” he bows his head as he continues,
“Come back to me.”
~~~~
Days later, a new doctor was brought to Y/n and Levi looked at her. “You are?” He asks, voice hoarse from not being used in so long. “Dr Jean Francis. I’ve been called by Hange Zoe to see to a Mrs Ackerman. I take it that you are Mr Ackerman.” She sticks out a hand to shake but Levi doesn’t leave his wife’s side.
Dr Francis smiles and pulls her hand back. “Ok. Sir, I’m here to help. If I’ve been called that means my cousin couldn’t and it’s that serious. So please, let me.” She says in a stern voice as she puts on latex gloves.
“Do what you have to do to save her.” Levi says after a long silence and Dr Francis nods. “I’m going to check her vitals really quick.” She says and begins her check up in Y/n.
“Blood pressure: good. Heart rate: stable. Temperature…mm.” Dr Francis mumbles and Levi picks up on her resistance. “What is it?”
“Her temperature appears to be normal. So what…” suddenly, the machines start to rapidly beep and Levi jumps up. Nurses and doctors rush in and Levi is pushed outside. “Levi!” Hange yells as she runs to him. “What happened?” Hange looks inside to see everyone around Y/n and Levi just stares in shock.
“I…I don’t know.”
~~~~
“A bug? What do you mean a big?” Levi asks as he crosses his arms.
“This particular bug is only found in river water. It’s one that instantly seeks refuge in the internal organs. It was hard for Hange and the rest to find because it’s symptoms make it seem as one of that a fever.” Dr Francis explains and Levi grips his head. “What is it?” Hange asks Levi.
“It’s my fault. That one day, she was thirsty while we were out for a walk. She drank the water…I knew I should have stopped her. Fuck.” Levi groans and cups his face.
“It’s no ones fault except for the bug’s.” Dr Francis assures the worried man.
“Is there a cure, Jean?” Hange asks her.
“Yes. But, it’s a work in progress. The chances of Y/n surviving is..a 35% chance. I’m sorry, Levi.”
Levi shakes his head and looks at Francis. “You bring that cure here. I’ll pay however much, just help her.”
“Levi, you got to understand, it’s a work in progress. It could do more harm than good-…”
“I DONT CARE!” He yells and Francis sighs. “Bring me that cure. I’m not losing her too.” Levi concludes and head aback into the room where Y/n laid.
Francis rubs her temple and Hange lays a hand on her cousin’s shoulder. “Bring it. It’s the best option we have right now.”
~~~~
When Francis brought the cure, she sat next to Y/n and prepared her for the multiple injections. “We won’t see results instantly. It’ll take a while. A week at minimum. It’s not going to be easy either. It’s painful, her heart will start to beat faster it will be a scary experience.” She says, telling Levi. “Ok.” Is all he replies.
Once Y/n was injected, Levi slept next to her. “I know you can hear me, Y/n. I know that you’re just pretending. But I’ll let you play for now. Promise you’ll wake up? Doc says that it’s going to hurt. I know I vowed to never hurt you but I have to do this, baby. When you wake, you can swear me, slap me, whatever. But I want you awake. Just bare with it, you’ve been through worse. I know.” He kisses her forehead and continues,
“I love you, Y/n. So much. Wake up soon, alright?”
~~~~
It’s as if Levi was living in hell.
Y/n got so much worse than before. Her skin turning dark and bruises formed and he was so angry. He shouldn’t have done this. If he knew it was going to be this bad he wouldn’t have said anything.
It’s been a week and a half since the cure was injected into Y/n and Francis was explaining what might happen. “It will be a shock factor. Once she gets up, she will throw up all types of bile which is the bug and other impurities. The incubator isn’t necessary now so that’s good.” She notes and Levi just stares at Y/n’s face.
Dr Francis didn’t want to say anything further so she bid farewell after injecting morphine into Y/n’s veins.
That night, while everyone slept including Levi, Y/n sprung out of bed and threw up all over the bed. Levi slept on the chair and was awoken by her. His eyes widened as he quickly gave her a small bag. Y/n threw up and Francis and Hange entered the room.
“Y/n!” Hange yells and runs to her side and rubs her back. When Y/n was done, she looked up and then at Levi. She tried to speak but Levi hushed her. “It’s okay, baby. Don’t speak. You’re okay.” Whether he was assuring her or him was a mystery but his love came back.
When Y/n started to get better, Levi never left her. “I love you, Levi. Thank you.” She says and he grips her hand. “Say it again.” He says and she chuckles.
“I love you.”
“Again.”
“I love you!”
Levi smiles and laid next to her as she drifted off to sleep. The painful resistance she had just to come back to him was something he would always be grateful for. Just to know that she was here, breathing, talking, laughing with him made Levi at ease.
Kuchel watched her son cuddle his wife as she stood at the foot of the bed. She smiles and disappears. Levi looks up and his eyes search the room. He furrows his eyebrows but ends up going back to sleep with Y/n.

QUARANZINE #14
QUARANZINE #14: Rachel Herman. Rachel was diagnosed as a presumptive positive for COVID-19 after a test for Influenza A and B turned up negative. She's been fighting the virus for just over two weeks. Yesterday she posted this long message on Facebook about her experience so far and I asked her about publishing it in QUARANZINE. She had been thinking about reaching out to me, so we were both on the same page. The text is very long for the format I adhere to so the type is quite small, unfortunately. Here it is in its entirety: Dear friends,
This is the week many of us will get sick. Social distancing is working, but most cities waited too long to declare shelter-in-place orders and many others have yet to. So, we will see spikes in confirmed cases within the next week or so. I want you all to be armed with pragmatic and useful information if this happens to you or someone you care about.
I am on Day 14 of what was diagnosed as a presumptive positive for COVID-19 after a test for Influenza A and B turned up negative. (I am still waiting for my COVID-19 results.) I’ve had a relatively mild case, and I’m on the mend. My congestion is clearing up, I can breathe deeply again, and going up and down the stairs doesn’t make me winded. My energy and appetite are coming back though I still have had a fever of 100+ for 14 straight days. Most of us will get a mild case. 40-70% of us will get it, but so much of the media frenzy right now is focused on things that were important last week and yesterday (every day feels a year these days, though, to be fair). I have seen shockingly few articles or helpful testimonials advising how best to treat ourselves at home, and, trust me, I’ve been looking. So much of the information we’re focused on now is preventing transmission, but there is woefully little on what to do IF and WHEN we get sick.
Being waylaid during the time that so many folks have been still frantically trying to avoid getting sick has offered me a strange bubble of calm and insight. I’m grateful for that because the fear out there is palpable. I would like for this to be an offering to assuage at least some panic. That is my hope anyway.
The CDC and the WHO have labored and lengthy instructions on how to prevent transmission to someone else in the household or orders to quarantine. This creates a new problem for us as caregivers. A potentially critically ill person separated from everyone else drastically reduces a caregiver’s ability to monitor, replenish fluids, and generally take care of the person who is sick. On top of that, these two trusted sources offer only the most basic (honestly, negligible) recommendations for treating symptoms: sleep, keep hydrated, and take Tylenol (or the generic acetaminophen). This kind of bare bones advice is, well, skeletal. We all want to know how best to take care of ourselves and each other so that we can avoid having to go to the hospital. We want to be able to recuperate at home because we want to prevent putting a strain on the system and, face it, the idea of going to the hospital in this scenario is downright daunting. The better we know how to nurse ourselves back to health, the better our odds are healing well in our own beds.
So, I wanted to share what I’ve learned.
Caveat emptors/disclaimers because I’m making this public and shareable: This is based on my own personal, lived experience. I am not a doctor, so this does not replace or supplant solid medical advice from a professional you trust. I have had relatively mild symptoms but still a longish case. I am one of the freakish 5% who has had never-ending nasal congestion that went into my upper respiratory tract, but I somehow avoided the dreaded cough. YMMV (your mileage may vary). I have no underlying health concerns, I’m 52, a non-smoker, and fortunate. I have a comfortable apartment to myself, and I was able to spend $500 to stock up on essentials before the lockdown and before I got sick. (For the love of all that is holy, I swear I did not stockpile anything, especially TP. Stocking up is simply incredibly expensive. I dwindled my account down to almost my last dollar, since I’m adjunct faculty at two local universities and don’t make a whole lot.) Still, that is more than so many of us are able to do, and I am grateful for all that I have. What follows goes a bit beyond common sense, because this virus is unlike anything I’ve experienced before, even though to be clear, this is certainly a far cry from the sickest I’ve ever been. I hope it can be a boon to friends and strangers alike.
Here are the things I did that helped:
WHILE YOU ARE WELL
1) Start taking your temperature in the morning and at night so that you have a baseline.
One of the first signs of the virus can be a low-grade fever, though this virus does present in different ways. Full disclosure: I was one of those people who had to go to 3 different drugstores on Wed Mar 11 looking for a thermometer amid decimated shelves.
2) Before you get sick, change your diet.
Stop eating and drinking things that will make it harder to fight off the virus. Mellow out on the processed foods, dairy, and sugar (alcohol and gluten are in this category too, sorry).
Increase your intake of immune-boosting foods like green vegetables, fish and other omega-threes, garlic, ginger, and citrus. You don’t have to give in to the whole elderberry craze (though it does taste pretty good). Replace coffee with chaga, a fungal immune booster that you can brew into a strong, soothing tea, for a few weeks.
If you think these dietary recommendations are extreme, consider that you are in a temporary but dire situation where everything else around us is collapsing. Change your eating habits this month, even if it’s just a little for a little while.
3) SLEEP at least 8 hours a night. (I know, I wake up at 4am in a blind panic too. But, still, try.)
4) Make a pot of soup NOW while you are healthy or at the first sign of any symptoms.
This is especially important if you are sheltering in place alone. When/if you get sick, trust me, you won’t have energy to cook. You will barely want to eat anything anyway. But you will force yourself to have two bowls of it every day, and it will help. The pot should be big enough so that you can eat from it for a week. Make your favorite broth-based recipe: chicken, vegetable, or bone. Bone is most healing, obviously. Avoid dairy and noodles because these ingredients increase congestion and inflammation. Freeze it if you don’t have any symptoms at this point, so you will be able to thaw it when you start to feel oogy.
WHEN YOU GET SICK
1) At the first sign of fatigue, a tickle in your throat, aches, or a fever, go to bed and stay there. SLEEP. Don’t try to keep working. Your body needs to heal, and it can do that most effectively when you are sleeping.
Early symptoms reportedly vary. Some have aches and fever, scratchy throat, and chest tightness with a dry cough. Headaches, sneezing + nasal congestion, shortness of breath, nausea, and diarrhea have all been reported. I woke up on Mar 14 with a headache, body aches, congestion, and a fever of 101. My fever spiked to 102.5 on Day 2, and I’ve had a fever of 100+ every day since along with body aches, nasal congestion (my nose opened up like an actual running faucet on day 5), chest tightness and upper respiratory congestion, exhaustion, lack of appetite, and some lower GI distress (though not full-on diarrhea, everything just felt labored and different and, sincere apologies for the vivid image I’m about to put in your head, my poop seemed to be covered in a gauzy cloud). The two aberrations from most commonly reported symptoms: I have only had a negligible cough, and I never had a sore throat. My baseline temp leading up to getting sick was 99, but I am usually a straight-up 98.6 kind of person.
I had a dinner party the Monday before I got sick, and a friend who helped me in the kitchen came down with the same thing at the same time. My friend has asthma and has had a much harder time of things. But we are both on the road to recovery, in large part because we have been sharing what we’ve learned, checking in with each other, and doing some intense jobs taking care of ourselves while in isolation. (No one else from the dinner party has gotten sick to date.)
2) DRINK WATER, every 15 minutes when you are awake. Every time you wake up or roll over, drink. It should be room temperature, not cold. Cold liquids exacerbate the illness.
3) Drink WARM liquids like herbal tea and broth. Hot liquids keep everything in your system moving. Make soothing, healing, and warming remedies out of whatever inexpensive supplies you already have available.
4) In the giant void of an antiviral treatment that works on COVID-19, I have turned/returned to plant medicine, and it has helped me a lot.
My cousin, who is taking a Chinese medicine course in Singapore right now, sent me directions on how to make a ginger and licorice root decoction that was used throughout China during the Hubei lockdown. It’s easy to make. You bake the licorice in molasses, and then you boil the licorice root and the ginger for an hour. The ginger licorice decoction has really helped my friend who also got sick at the same time I did.
Making tea from Chaga – an Alaskan mushroom – has been so incredibly helpful. I’ve made a large pot of it every day, reserving the chaga and re-steeping over and over again for the past two weeks. Was it the chaga or the fact that I was drinking a gallon of warm soothing liquid daily, ladling out a mugful every couple of hours, that helped me get better? I’ll go with a little of both.
Other natural antiviral immune boosters that might help include vitamin C, C60, and olive leaf extract, oregano oil, and Manuka honey. Since stores are closed and Amazon has stopped shipping, we have to make do with what we already have. Make a tea with citrus peels and cloves and sliced ginger, if that’s is in your fridge.
5) The word on the street is to manage fever with Tylenol or acetaminophen or paracetamol, which are supposed to be more suited to treating respiratory illness than other alternatives. Frankly, I have been taking acetaminophen as sparingly as possible to avoid putting strain on my other organs. Cool compresses work too.
Some people are saying NOT to take Advil and its generic ibuprofen, as they have anecdotally said to propel otherwise healthy people to hospitals for oxygen. There is a lot of noise and confusion in this debate, and I’m going to sidestep this thorny conversation for our purposes.
6) Zinc lozenges and elderberry syrup help with a scratchy throat and cough. A friend of mine prone to bronchitis recommended Myrtol, a German cough syrup made from natural ingredients, including elderberry. If you have a pharma protocol in place for managing a persistent, chronic cough, you are probably already on it.
7) The fatigue is real. It also becomes really hard to think clearly. That’s why it’s so important to have soup and tea and other supportive supplies ready ahead of time.8) When you think you are getting better the first three or four times, STAY IN BED.
The arc of this virus is really rollercoaster-y: up and down and up and down. After the initial alarm passes, (and it is alarming at first because you don’t know which way it’s going to go and that seizing up can make everything feel worse), I was able to focus on getting better, calmly. I made it through the first scary fever spikes, but right when I thought I was feeling better, I would get knocked down again. There were critical junctures around days 3, 5, and 7 where I was certain I’d turned a corner, and, well, yesterday.
I’d get up and do dishes, take out the trash, take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood (face covered), and try to get some work done (end of quarter grades were due at both my schools and my departments have been preparing like mad to take our classes online in the spring). Then I would feel hot and light-headed again, taking my temp only to see it had sprung back up to 101.5. You will feel better and want to get back up and do things only to get knocked right back down. The moment I ease up on drinking water and tea constantly, I start to feel horrible again.
Remember: YOU ARE ESSENTIALLY PREVENTING YOURSELF FROM DEVELOPING FULL-BLOWN VIRAL PNEUMONIA. I would say the new mantra needs to be SLEEP + DRINK WATER. Start now, to the extent that you can. Please resist the urge to get up and do things. Rest. Do your Zoom meetings from bed with a virtual office background, if you absolutely have to be on a call. But, truly, you shouldn’t because this is the time to sleep sleep sleep and binge watch The Good Place (my choice for existential dystopian laughs/insert whatever makes your socks go up and down). For the past few days, my temp has been normal in the morning only to spring back up to 100+ if I try to do too much (e.g. read: ANYTHING). When I let myself sleep, my temp goes back down.
9) A humidifier has helped. Some recommend running a hot shower and sitting in your own makeshift bathroom sauna. Steam eucalyptus or rosemary, if you have any, and inhale deeply. I just made a homemade vaporub with a base of coconut oil and a few drops each of clove, thyme, rosemary, and peppermint oil. It is wonderful.
10) My breathing never got dangerously shallow. But this virus can potentially fill your upper and lower respiratory tracts with mucous until you feel like you are drowning. A physical therapist wrote with life-saving advice about the importance of Postural Draining, a method of draining mucous from the lungs using gravity and percussion. It involves physically moving your body so that you tilt your lungs and bronchial tubes upside down and then firmly clap the back or chest. This allows the mucous to flow up out of the lungs along with deep, prolonged exhales. Then you can cough it the rest of the way out. You can do postural draining alone or have someone perform it on you. Google postural draining diagrams – there are different for positions for each of the five lobes of your lungs. Do these exercises for 3-5 minutes a day before you get too sick. You can get into position in a chair or laying over a yoga ball, bean bag, or pillows for support.
Failing steps 1-10, if you have difficulty breathing or your temperature spikes beyond what you and your doctor are comfortable with (I’ve heard different numbers), please go to the ER immediately. Some of you will develop dramatic and dangerous symptoms quickly. Please do not wait to seek care if your lungs are struggling beyond what you can manage at home. My advice is geared to keeping as many of us comfortable for as long as it takes to heal, but that obviously is only going to go so far for those who suffer from chronic conditions, are older, or are immunosuppressed. If you have a finger oximeter, and are able to monitor your oxygen levels numerically, then you will know when you have to go to the hospital. But very few of us have those, and they are way sold out.
THE OTHER SIDE
Healing from even a mild case (and mine IS mild) takes about two weeks to a month.
As my dad would day, take it easy. It is unclear how immunity works with COVID-19. Some have said that there was a patient in Japan who tested positive a second time. There is speculation that this, in fact, was a relapse and not re-infection. We need more time to learn about the virus. In the meantime, please give yourselves time to heal.
We don’t know how long immunity lasts, and we don’t know about immunity to slightly different mutated strains even if we have recovered from one of them. I do hope that we get to develop a fair amount of herd immunity in the next year, but, again, there is a lot to learn. We will obviously still need to protect our vulnerable populations, and our society will continue to bend and contort itself around the virus.
But I hope to be in a position to assist when others get sick. I will happily help you to the best of my abilities. Looking to a future I can hardly conceive at the moment, I anticipate learning more about plant medicine. Scientists will develop new antivirals, retrovirals, and vaccines. I look forward to donating plasma as part of a treatment for those who get sick in the future, whenever that near-distant moment may be.
And thank you, friends. I am good. I have everything I need. My inner circle is incredible (I love you, mom!). I have been quarantined since developing symptoms and went out for a half hour only to get tested (thank you, Howard Brown for your invaluable service). No one else I spent time with beforehand has gotten sick (except my one friend whose illness coincided with mine, and they are also struggling a bit today with the ups and downs. Please hold them in your thoughts).
May you and your loved ones stay healthy. Or, more to the point, may we all get well and stay well. Sending love to all corners.– Rachel Herman

Why I haven't uploaded...
So my mom, dad, and 5 year old sister all have the flu. I have been trying to help out and get them better and it has been hard taking care of 3 people.
I was going to upload a one shot this week and then I have another series and currently working on other things. That one shot has been put on hold because of all this, plus this morning I spiked a 103.4°F (39.7°C) temp and now I am down for the count.
Once all this blows over I will upload. Just give me some time. Thank you all so much for the support. It means a lot.
P.S. Sorry for the tags. Just wanted to make sure people saw this.

Voltage Stabilizers for AC 1.5 Ton
Tumblr media
"The vast majority of the People say that there is no need of Stabilizers for Inverter AC's",
Truly I concur with them, the greater part of the marked Air Conditioners have their own Inbuilt circuit which adjusts voltage vacillations productively. Yet, as we Indians must realize that there is no precise measure of current, voltage was provided to our home. more often than not particularly in Summer we can see expanded force drops, voltage vacillations. These variances might be seen straightforward, however the genuine danger is for your significant TV, AC, Fridges, Washing Machine, PC's other electrical apparatuses.
"On the off chance that the Input voltage run goes past 90 V to 300 V Range, there comes the genuine issue for Air Conditioners. If so in your region then you should purchase an ideal stabilizer for your AC."
Alwys take care of your home appliances well otherwise their durisability will be short. Air Conditioner always need a stabilizer whatever Brand Ac belongs to it does not matter. Voltage stabilizer is must.
For what reason do we need Stabilizer for Inverter AC?
In a general sense Inverter AC's Dont require any extra Voltage stabilizers and Inverter Air Conditioners are exorbitant however. On the off chance that the voltage Fluctuation is excessively high, Then there is a Higher chance of PCB harm. extreme spike in current harms the significant functionalities of AC which decreases the existence time of your important Appliances. Particularly in India a large portion of the individuals want to have the best Inverter AC stabilizer to safe gatekeeper their Inverter AC, If they face most exceedingly awful force flexibly in their region.
How To Choose the best stabilizer for AC?.
This is one of the normal speculation, First of all break down what's your prerequisite. better to think about AC includes consummately. On the off chance that you have a 1.5 Ton AC you can have normal capacity(4 Kva) voltage stabilizer. In the event that your AC has around 2 Ton, at that point we need according to that. I will clarify you unmistakably with a table. The better stabilizer

Moto of This Article "Air conditioning Stabilizer"
For what reason Do we need remarkable stabilizers for Different AC's?. Each Air Conditioner brand has its own one of a kind circuit plan, Processors, PCB's, Cooling Technology. To be clear, If an AC accompanies another element. at that point there is no uncertainty it has a one of a kind structure of PCB plan. Like shrewd Voltage stabilizer marks as well.
"With the goal that we have taken an enormous activity to give the most appropriate Stabilizers to your own novel Air Conditioners. we made total examination and we tested the best marked stabilizers with the top marked AC's."
To give the best outcomes to you. we may give the examination report to you however. be that as it may, it is convoluted and extreme to comprehend distinctive circuit plans. no concerns I have accompanied a not too bad looking correlation tables for every single brands of Indian industry.

The greater part of them may not know about this Ac stabilizer brand "Activa". In any case, This is an inventive Stabilizer which suites better with Haier Air Conditioner structures. Haier Air conditioners has the accompanying included circuit stream. The inward structure of Haier AC has an Auto Restart circuit, Aluminum and copper condensers which requires profoundly qualified Toroidal technology(coil development of the transformers which gives polymetric current stream). Activa Voltage stabilizers gives steady force flexibly and guarantees smooth usefulness of Air conditioners. In our exploration we discovered This Acitva voltage stabilizer was the most ideal counterpart for Haier AC. other marked stabilizers like Vguard, Microtek may not be that much reasonable for Haier AC. Voltas is one of the main AC supplier. the vast majority of the Voltas AC accompanies inbuilt balancing out limit. utilizing an outside AC stabilizer for Voltas AC hinders the startup time. On the off chance that there is poor force gracefully, at that point there is no utilization of value AC or Inverter AC. Voltas Air Conditioners may not endure extreme voltage change. Voltas AC are sufficient before they harm. be that as it may, once if there is any harm occured in view of intensity vacillation, in come cases the harm can't be recouped and it gradually begins to fix much of the time. which makes immense lose of cash. in any case, no concerns forestall it before the issue emerges. I have given the businesses best voltage stabilizer for Voltas AC. This Microtek AC stabilizer is tad expensive. In any case, it secures your expensive voltas Air Conditioners. Do you think you could write something about Todoroki x male!reader where (reader) is new to the class and Todoroki is intrigued by (reader)’s quirk and their similarities and advanced grasp on it so he tries to get closer and befriends him? The reader’s quirk would be “Water Temperature” which means he can change water to whatever temp he wants, I.e. freeze it and build into spikes or boil and burn people. Thank you!
Tumblr media
You stood in front of the class awkwardly, raising your foot a little to scratch your ankle before standing on two feet again. Too many sets of eyes were on your form, making you a little uncomfortable, but you couldn't move from your spot until dismissed. Aizawa, taking his sweet time with getting things started, stood at the podium, looking over a couple papers before looking up and speaking. "This is your new classmate, (L/N) (F/N). Don't take him lightly, treat him as you would each other," he claimed before you bowed respectfully towards your new classmates. "Please take care of me." With that, you were sent to your seat which was stationed towards the back and the class began.
You didn't really talk to anyone at first, focussing mostly on catching up with the rest of the class academically. For the next few days, that's all you did, skipping out on PE and training until you believed you were ready to join in properly. Finally setting your notebook to the side, you grabbed one of your two water bottles and drank it all quickly, making sure you were as hydrated as you could be in that moment. Once the last drop hit your tongue, you placed it with your book and jogged over to join the rest of your class as they finished their stretching.
"Hey (Y/N), glad you could join us!" Uraraka called, grinning from ear to ear as she waved to your approaching figure. Raising a muscular arm in the air in greeting as you came closer, your sharp (E/C) eyes skimmed over each and every unique face in your class. It's only been about a week since you've joined UA, but you knew everyone's names and their quirks. Watching the sports festival helped with that a lot. "(L/N), you'll be paired with Todoroki. The aim of the battle is to immobilise the other," Aizawa instructed, turning the classes attention towards him. You first huh? Why weren't you surprised? It didn't matter anyway. You were going to win this battle.
You soon got into position, standing about five meters away from Todoroki, waiting for the signal from your teacher to begin. The moment the signal was give, a large amount of ice was sent in your direction, coming at you fast. Raising a hand calmly, the moment the cold ice touched your palm, it started to melt, the whole lot turning into a massive puddle on the ground. "A heating quirk?" you could hear him mutter to himself curiously before he changed it up and came at you with flames. You ducked the first time to avoid getting burnt before touching the puddle of water and heating it rapidly, making it evaporate into the air. You counted to three before cooling the evaporated water right back down, so the water quickly came down like rain, extinguishing the male's flames.
Todoroki gritted his teeth and looked to where you had been standing, only for his face to meet the ground, you having managed to get behind him and pin him to the ground. "I win~" you purred into his ear before standing up and dusting yourself off. That was too easy. A silence followed your victory before Kaminari let out a cheer. "That was awesome!" Grinning across at the group, you held a hand out for Todoroki to help him up. "I had the advantage of knowing your quirk. Don't feel too bad," you spoke, giving him a smile. The male stared at your hand for a moment before taking it and standing up, still in shock from your quirk. Your quirks were so similar.
After training, you walked off to change back into your uniform, chatting with Kirishima and Kaminari about the battles between each student, you explaining how you believed the two of them could have done better in their own matches. Just as you were about to enter the male changing room, you felt a warm hand on your shoulder, making you turn to find Todoroki standing behind you.
"(L/N), I was wondering if I could ask you something," he spoke, avoiding eye contact, looking somewhat unsure of himself. You stepped off to the side with him and leaned against the wall casually. "What's up?" you asked, running a hand through your hair. The male rubbed the back of his neck and let out a breath. "We have really similar quirks and you seem to have an excellent grasp on yours. I was wondering if maybe-" You cut him off with a light chuckle.
"Wondering if I could help you control your own?" You asked with a raised brow. He nodded his head and you bit your lip lightly as if deep in thought. "Yeah, I don't see why not. As long as you buy me lunch in return," you claimed with a grin, winking at him before slinking past him and into the changing room, leaving him standing there, somewhat stunned.

I mainly play Destiny2 and Overwatch right now. The following are my observations from looking at the MSI Afterburner graphs after playing
Overwatch 3770k FPS would vary a lot depending on the game type. in smaller games, 3v3 or 4v4 I would see FPS bouncing around 200 but would drop down to the 170s. In big 6v6 fights FPS would average closer to 170 but depending on the action could get above 200 and dip into the 120s. CPU Temps 45 C or below 3900x FPS is mostly pegged to my 237 limit with regular dips that stay above 200. In big hectic fights I sometimes see a spike drop to 170 but that is rare, happening maybe 4 times a match. https://imgur.com/5fyGPEp CPU temps steady low 50s C
Destiny2
3770k FPS would vary a lot and was harder to track since it did not show up on my afterburner graph. in busy areas I would usually be in the 90s but sometimes I would spend a lot of time in the 120 to 140 range. CPU and GPU usage were a lot easier to track. Generally both would bounce around 70% with some large and regular spikes up. CPU Temps 45 C or below 3900x FPS would vary a lot. time spent in the 90s is rare with most time spent in the 120s or 140s, but again this is hard to track. The big indicator for me was CPU and GPU usage. CPU usage is down in the 20% range and the GPU usage spends a lot of time pegged to 100% with regular spiky drops to 70%. As requested in the AMD thread video with FPS counter https://youtu.be/Pae9-mIk5sg https://youtu.be/PwS5WI3gDOE CPU temps low 50s with regular spikes in to the 60s (highest HW info showed was 71)
Fastest boost speed Ive seen is 4.750 on a single core, but this is with very limited testing. have 5 other cores that have broken 4.5
I'm a little surprised by my temps and a little worried that HW info shows my average core voltage at 1.39(could be because it thinks parked cores are still running?)

Chapter 3
Summary: Takes place after the Cullen’s leave. The reader’s family moves from Los Angeles to Forks for a change of scenery. A new friendship forms.
Bella Swan x Female Black!OC
Warnings: None
Chapter 1 Chapter 2
Bella Swan POV
It’s been a month and a half since Temple and I been close friends, best friend even. I’ve really opened up to her, told her things that I thought would be a burden to others.
For the first time, I had someone that listened to me and not the other way around.
Today, we’re going to First Beach because of the nice weather and also Temple insisted that wanted to look at every nature aspect of Washington since she didn’t get that in California. I searched through the clothing that I bought from Arizona for an old bikini that I had. The swim suit was something simple, it was navy blue with thin strings to tie the suit. I also pulled a white see through pullover, black sandals and a bag with towels and other necessities.
Going downstairs to add a couple snacks, Charlie sat at his worn recliner watching some afternoon sport. The Seattle killings died down for the past week, letting Charlie have some time relax, something that he hasn’t done.
“Hey Bells, where ya goin” he looked back at me, with his thick eyebrow drawn in.
“I’m going to First Beach with Temple, and won’t be back until later tonight.” I tucked my hair back and walked to the kitchen to complete the task at hand.
“This uh Temple girl, she’s a real good influence on you Bells” Charlie muted the television to focus on the conversation.
I nodded. “She really is. You can meet her once she get here.”
And on cue, there was a knock at the door. I started to walk towards the door but Charlie bet me to it.
“Hi, Mr. Swan. Is Bella here?”
Charlie cleared his throat before answering. “She sure is, Temple is it?”
“Yes sir” Then there was a low murmur of words that I couldn’t pick up. I peeked my head out the kitchen to see Temple nodding her head and made slight eye contact with me, turning the attention to me all together.
“Eavesdropping there Bells?” Charlie’s mustache twitched from smiling.
“I-I no I wasn’t” my face turning a bright red.
“It’s ok to admit it Izzy” Temple grinned. “We should get going, we’re losing daylight.”
Saying goodbye to Charlie, we left the house and was on the main road to La push. I was still curious of the low conversation they had.
“Iz, relax all he said was how good you improved and how I should keep it up, that’s all” She took her eyes off the road to look at me, her hand rubbing my knuckles.
I was shocked at how she just took the words out my mouth.
“I’m sorry,” I bit my lip,
“It’s ok, now we’re going to have fun and enjoy this weather.”
In the next 20 minutes we got to the beach. It was slightly deserted, which was a good thing. We laid our towels on the sand. As Temple laid out her music devices and some snacks, I took the time to really look at her. She had long braid instead of her usual curls that went down her back, the bright red two piece suit complimented her skin tone and made her stand out. And her body was amazing. Her chest was much larger than mines, her thighs were firm but looked so soft. Light colored stretch marks went along her backside and her ass was nice and perky. I wondered how the globes would feel-
The sound of snapping bought me out of my daze.
“Jeez, I was calling you for the last thirty seconds. You ok?”
Temple frowned
“Uh yeah, I was just thinking about something” I stammered out. Temple laughed, “Suree”
To occupy our time, we played a game of volleyball and being very uncoordinated, the ball flew in a different direction and hit someone.
“That’s a mean spike Bella” a deep voice said. I looked at the tall figure that held the ball in a pair of large hands.
My mouth dropped. “Jake?”
A set of white teeth grinned and gently tossed the ball back in our direction. “That’s my name, if I’m right”
I flew into his arms, finding him to be very warm.
“Wow, uh long time no see” I said pushing my hair back and took a better look at him. “You cut your hair and got a tattoo?”
Jacob nodded. “It’s good for a change once in a while”
I squinted my eyes, not believing him completely. “Right, uh this is my best friend, Temple” I grabbed her hand a pulled her closer. “Temple this Jacob, he’s a childhood friend”
Jacob reached out to shake her hand which she allowed.
“Well you obviously know my name” Temple showed him a tight smile, her mood doing a 180.
“I better get going, it’s nice to see you again Bella” Jacob pulled me into hug and waved at Temple before jogging toward the trees. I watched him for a minute before turning to Temple who was sitting on her towel, pulling out the food from her bag. She handled me a club sandwich and bottle of water.
Temple remained quiet as she ate, looking at the waves. For some reason, I didn’t like the small pout she has on her face, instead of the beautiful smile that I gotten used to. I placed my food down and moved closer to her.
“Temple, did I do something?” I crooned. Her head snapped towards me, her braids whipping in different directions.
“No, why would you think that?” Her eyes wide.
“It’s just..you were fine and then you got quiet” I stared at her waiting for her to explain.
Temple looked down and played with the fabric of the towel.
“If I tell you this, you promise me that you won’t run or let this change our friendship?” Temple whispered
After learning that vampires existed, nothing phased me. I nodded.
“I bought you out here because not only I wanted to spend time with you, but I also wanted to tell you that I-I” Temple let out a loud sigh.
“Temp, you can tell me anything, pour your thoughts out. I won’t judge you” I comforted her.
“Can I really?” Her eyes were so open, full of untold emotions.
I nodded once more.
“I’m a witch” she whispered, looking away after she uttered those words. I racked my brain to see if there were any signs that I didn’t catch.
“C-Can you show me”
“You’re not running away or calling me crazy?”
“Temple, just show me.” Temple stared at me as I waited for something to happen.
“Look at your bag Bella” The white bag floated a couple inches off the ground, along with the food and towel. I was left speechless. “Say something” Temple pleaded
“I believe you” I slowly nodded my head. “So you can move things with your mind?”
“Yes”
“And you can probably do spells and actual magic?” I whispered. “What else can you do?”
“This,” And she kissed me.

It's been a year so I'll post about it now. First pic is post Covid and 2nd was from the other day. Last March I got Covid. I noticed my temp would spike after workouts. Figured maybe I was fighting off a bug but no big deal. I felt fine and I had my no illness streak going since 2015 at that point. I started to feel body aches but I thought it was just from workouts. Then the fever got higher and was more persistent. I also started waking up completely soaked in sweat. I'd shower and wash my clothes/sheets in the middle of the night. The exhaustion set in and I would start sleeping heavily. I made a point to wake up and force myself to have my shake and eat. I started taking more Vitamin C on top of the Vitamin D I was already taking as well as drinking Pineapple/Orange juice. All immune boosters. One night I got up to go to the bathroom and noticed my breathing was a little shallow. No cough no runny nose but I definitely a diff in breathing. I called the doc and was told to avoid going in unless absolutely necessary. At the time It was still thought to be more a respiratory issue than a blood issue. I did start laying on my stomach more and doing breathing exercises as was the protocol. Fever got bad and chills set in. I just rolled up into more covers and stuck it out. My fever broke that night. But then the chills persisted and my temp dropped low. Like 94-95. I called in and again told to stay home. I maintained immune boosting protocols, rest like crazy, eating, and keeping my fluids up. I was in my room 24/7 for almost a week and got pretty pale. After the temp drop I started to stabilize. I tested myself with a #workout and found my breathing wasn't back yet. It would be another rest week before I was back at it - Slowly building up. A year later I still have Anti-bodies. I put on 20lbs since and have been feeling great. Don't overlook your #health or "small" daily decisions. They will come into play. Stay #Healthy. Stay Nerdy. #life #body #mindset #goals #work #nutrition #sweat #grateful #wellness #tbb #shakeology #reflection https://www.instagram.com/p/CMSGhF9gxna/?igshid=obi8rarorbqn

This automatic charcoal grill cooks with tons of barbecue flavor

The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 cooks with regular charcoal but runs like a pellet grill.
Brian Bennett/CNET
As barbecue grills go, the $500 Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 is an outlier. It cooks with the big flavor of charcoal, yet offers the set-and-forget electronic temperature control of a pellet smoker. To get that combination you’d typically have to upgrade an ordinary charcoal grill or kamado with an aftermarket product. Examples are the Smartfire and popular DigiQ gadgets.
Like
Burns lump or briquette charcoal
Automatic temperature control
Meat probe included (4 supported)
Smokes and sears food with plenty of flavor
Don’t Like
Could be more efficient
Not water resistant
Another upside to the Gravity Series is that it can burn either standard briquettes or lump charcoal. Both types of fuel are much easier to find at your local supermarket than proprietary wood pellets. This grill is versatile too, letting you smoke low and slow or sear at high heat.
That said, the Gravity Series 560 isn’t flawless. It’s not as fuel efficient as Traeger pellet smokers I’ve used. It also tends to consume more briquettes than my trusty Weber Classic kettle. You also can’t use the 560 in the rain since it isn’t weather resistant. Still, this charcoal cooker is relatively affordable, capable and convenient. That makes the Gravity Series 560 perfect if you want classic charcoal barbecue flavor with less stress and hands-on time tending your fire.
The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 definitely has the look of a pellet smoker.
Brian Bennett/CNET
Looks like a smoker
On the outside, the Gravity Series 560 looks a lot like many backyard pellet smokers. Its black metal body is taller than it is long. The cart-style grill also stands on four legs equipped with casters on the front and wheels on the back. A large rectangular charcoal hopper sits to the right of the cooking chamber.
The shelf on the 560’s left side houses the grills controls and temperature display, along with four ports for meat probes. Masterbuilt includes one probe in the 560’s box. You can buy additional probes directly through Masterbuilt ($20 each).
Opening the grill’s lid reveals two cast-iron cooking grates plus a pair of porcelain-coated warming racks. Altogether, Masterbuilt says they provide a total cooking space of 560 square inches. According to the company that’s enough for four racks of ribs or eight chickens.
For comparison, the Traeger Timberline 850 is roughly the same size. Even so, it provides a bigger 850 square inches of cooking space. Traeger says that will accommodate eight racks of ribs or four chickens. Regardless of the accuracy of either company’s chicken-to-rib ratio for estimating grill capacity, the Traeger pellet grill lets you grill more food at once.
The Masterbuilt app lets you control the grill, watch meat probe status, and read recipes.
Brian Bennett/CNET
Grill with the app
Like many higher-end grills today, including the Traeger Timberline 850, the Gravity Series 560 connects to Wi-Fi. You can also control it via a mobile app. This Masterbuilt app isn’t as advanced as Traeger’s. Traeger’s software lets you send actual temperature settings and cook times to its grill. The Timberline will then run the instructions as an executable program. It’s nice to have since it means less fiddling with grill controls.
By contrast, the Masterbuilt app provides temperature control, meat probe monitoring and a library of text recipes. While the app’s list of recipes isn’t as extensive or as flashy as Traeger’s and its many colorful photos, the instructions are easy to follow. What’s more important here is being able to track the progress and status of your food remotely, which Masterbuilt’s app provides.
A different kind of smoker
The Gravity Series 560 doesn’t operate like a traditional charcoal or kamado grill. It doesn’t cook food in the same chamber as burning charcoal. Instead, an electric fan and vent channel heat and smoke from lit charcoal inside the hopper into the cooking cavity.
To start the grill, you first light coals from the bottom end of the hopper. A charcoal grate supports the weight of charcoal in the hopper above it. The grate also has a slot to add your preferred fire starter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Start the grill by placing a fire starter at the bottom of the charcoal hopper and lighting it.
Brian Bennett/CNET
Flames here will ignite the bottom layer of charcoal. As they burn, their ashes fall through the grate into a removable ash tray below. Additionally, heavier unlit charcoal at the top of the hopper forces spent fuel into the tray.
The whole setup reminds me of an offset smoker, though one assisted by a fanned temperature-control system. It’s similar to how pellet grills run too, save that they mechanically feed pellets from their hoppers into a separate fire box inside their cooking chambers.
Cooking with the Gravity Series
My experience cooking with the Gravity Series 560 was a pleasant one. When I fire up my old-school Weber kettle, I usually light the charcoal in a chimney starter and let them burn for 15 minutes before I put them in the Weber. When I’m planning to cook low and slow for barbecue, I employ the snake method. This calls for stacking briquettes in systematic layers in a semicircle around the kettle’s inner edge. It’s effective, but also takes some time to get it going.
These extra steps aren’t necessary with the 560. The grill’s charcoal hopper serves as its own chimney starter. With the hopper full (12 pounds of briquettes), a fire starter ignited a sufficient amount of coals in about 5 minutes. Then I buttoned up the hopper, removed two vent intake slides, and turned the grill on.
Sensors on the lid and hopper doors tell the fan to spin up when everything is closed. Next I punched in my target grill temperature, and it’s off to the races. Providing I had a proper ignition, the Masterbuilt 560 quickly ramped its internal heat levels to where I wanted them.
For example, it hit 225 degrees Fahrenheit (107.2 C) in 6 to 7 minutes. From there it only took a few minutes more to jump to 350 degrees (176.7 C). The same is true to reach the grill’s maximum temperature of 700 degrees (371.1 C).
Thermocouple readings matched the grill’s internal thermometer.
Brian Bennett/CNET
To get a feel for the Gravity Series 560’s chops, I cooked a few racks of baby back ribs. I set the grill at 225 degrees and monitored temperatures with both thermocouple and the Meater wireless meat thermometer. Generally, they both matched the grill’s internal temperature sensor.
Ribs smoked in the Masterbuilt Gravity Series came out well.
Brian Bennett/CNET
While I observed a few short spikes, things generally stayed between 225 and 235 degrees for the 5 hours, 36 minute cook time. I admit that my grumpy family forced me to crank up the heat in the last few minutes to make dinnertime.
Ah, baby back ribs. A lovely sight.
Brian Bennett/CNET
Next, I fired off two ribeye steaks. For the first one, I used Masterbuilt’s reverse seared steak recipe supplied by the app. First I flipped the reversible cast-iron cooking grates over to their searing position. Then with the grill’s wired probe, I cooked this steak (at 225 degrees) until its internal temp hit 110 degrees and set it aside.
Then I dialed the grill up to 700 degrees. I then seared this steak and another uncooked ribeye at high heat until both had internal temperatures of 140 degrees. As expected, both steaks had a nice amount of sear but the second was unevenly cooked.
Steak I cooked in the Gravity Series was nicely seared.
Brian Bennett/CNET
The first slab of meat (reverse-seared method) however, was sheer perfection. Beyond tender, it had a caramelized exterior yet was much more juicy.
Roasted barbecue chicken on the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560.
Brian Bennett/CNET
Finally, I roasted a spatchcocked chicken at 350 degrees. I gave it the barbecue treatment, a sweet and smoky rub. I threw a chunk of pecan smoke wood into the grill’s ash tray, too, for extra oomph. After 1 hour and 19 minutes, I was treated to one fantastic bird. Its skin was crisp while its flesh was juicy, with a pleasing smoke flavor.
I do have a few problems though with the 560. The biggest one is that it’s not weather resistant. Essentially you can’t run it in the rain. For an ordinary grill I wouldn’t mind, but for a smoker that often needs to complete long cooks spanning several hours, it’s an issue. Other electric grills such as Traeger pellet smokers are effectively sealed and insulated from the elements.
The Gravity Series was also less efficient than my trusty Weber kettle. While the formulation of briquettes has changed over the years, one charcoal snake typically lasts me 7 to 8 hours. That’s approximately 80 briquettes, or a full chimney starter’s worth, to cook baby back ribs for between 5 and 6 hours. The same task on the Gravity Series consumed about three quarters of an 8 pound bag, or about 112 briquettes. There are worse sins in barbecuing, certainly, but if you’re an active griller especially, you’re going to want to make sure you have more charcoal on hand than you normally might.
The verdict
I truly enjoyed my experience with the $500 Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560. It grills with high heat, smokes low and slow, and everything in between. The 560 also conveniently controls its own pit temperature like a pellet grill, yet burns regular lump or briquette charcoal. Almost everything I cooked in the Gravity Series 560 came out tasting fabulously good.
This grill doesn’t make sense for everyone. It’s many times the price of regular charcoal cookers that can deliver food that’s just as delicious with a little practice. Still, for those who seek an automated smoker that runs almost like a Traeger, the Gravity Series is a compelling and more affordable alternative. Just try not to get it wet.

Class Protector by Ginger [NC-17]
Buffy wasn’t sure if she was sensing some major badness brewing or if it was merely the impending awkward of making nice with a bunch of people she hadn’t seen in two decades and who, even back in the day, had merely tolerated her because she kept saving their lives. Either way, the weekend was bound to be a disaster.

How to Monitor Your GPU Temperature
whether you’re a gamer, a video editor, or someone who enjoys looking at beautiful imagery, it’s important to learn how to monitor your GPU temperature. If your computer’s internal components get too hot, you can quickly run into problems. Here, we’ll show you how to check your GPU temp in Windows 10 and how to maintain sustainable heat levels inside your computer.
How can I check my GPU temperature?
The following steps will show you how to check your GPU temperature on a Windows 10 computer. If you’re using Windows 7, you can follow these steps as well.
Windows don’t include any temperature-monitoring software by default, so you’ll need to download a third-party tool. For this article, we’ll use the free HWiNFO monitoring tool to test our GPU health, but any similar tool will give you the same results. Here’s how to see GPU temps with HWiNFO:
Download HWiNFO.
Tumblr media
When installing HWiNFO, click the box for Sensors-only. You don’t need the other parts of the program to check your GPU temperature.
Tumblr media
With HWiNFO open in sensors-only mode, scroll down the list until you see your GPU temperature.
Tumblr media
What’s the normal temperature of a GPU?
Ideal GPU temperatures range from 65 to 85°C (149 to 185°F) under normal use conditions, such as while gaming. But depending on the manufacturer and model of your GPU, your specific operating temps may vary from these norms.
At what temperature should I worry about overheating?
Consider 85°C the limit for standard GPU operating temps. Your GPU may exceed this limit while under severe stress, but it shouldn’t do so on a regular basis. The maximum operating temperature for any GPU is around 100 to 105°C.
Is there a difference between CPU and GPU temperatures?
Your CPU and GPU are two distinct components of your computer — the central processing unit and the graphics processing unit, respectively — but both need to avoid overheating in order to perform at their best. While the two processors work together, you’ll need to check and monitor your CPU temps separately from your GPU heat levels.
You can think of the CPU as your computer’s brain. It runs programs and makes all the calculations needed to keep everything else operating normally. AMD and Intel are two of the most popular CPU manufacturers, and both offer a range of CPUs designed for different levels of computing. Stress-testing your CPU is a good way to determine the sorts of tasks it can and can’t handle, especially if you’re planning on doing some CPU overclocking.
The GPU is a specialized processor that focuses on quickly performing repetitive and intense tasks, such as rendering high-resolution images and video. GPUs are more straightforward in their “thinking” than flexible and nimble CPUs.
GPUs are great at taking a complex task, breaking it down into smaller tasks, and completing all aspects simultaneously. That’s why they’re so useful for gaming. While you play GTA V, Ark: Survival Evolved, Dark Souls 3, or any other high-intensity game, every frame you see requires countless calculations to render lighting, textures, shapes, and so on. GPUs deliver those results much better than a CPU could.
What does a high GPU temp mean?
A high GPU temperature can mean a variety of things. Usually, it means that your GPU is working hard. This isn’t necessarily a cause for alarm, but if you notice sustained high temperatures for hours at a time or more, you may begin to encounter performance issues.
As your GPU heats up, it can begin to self-regulate its performance to cool itself down. Even if you’ve optimized your system for gaming or recently cleaned up your computer, you might experience lower FPS (frames per second) or reduced image fidelity while playing. If you’re rendering or editing videos, the process may take significantly longer if your GPU is too hot.
To maximize your computer’s operating efficiency, make sure to clean up all the digital clutter that can heat up your GPU. AVG TuneUp scans your computer from top to bottom to remove all the common sources of overheating and performance slowdowns, leaving your computer running cool and fast.

Common causes of a hot GPU
There’s not one single cause for a hot GPU. Below are several of the most common reasons why your GPU might be heating up:
It’s dusty. If it’s been a while since you last opened up your hardware to give it a good dusting — or if you’ve never done this at all — your GPU might be heating up due to good old-fashioned dust particles. As dust accumulates on your graphics card, it loses the ability to radiate heat effectively, and so it can’t cool itself down the way it’s designed to.
It’s overclocked too far. Overclocking your GPU is when you manually configure it to perform at higher speeds. If you don’t practice safe GPU overclocking, you may push things too far. Your GPU will essentially work itself into a frenzy and overheat.
Your computer’s fans aren’t working. Your computer uses one or more fans to remove hot air from within its casing. If these fans get clogged up with dust, or if they stop working correctly, they won’t be able to cool down your computer’s sensitive internals. Your graphics card may also have its own fan, so check that one too.
It’s working too hard. Some GPUs are more powerful than others. You might be overloading your GPU with tasks that are too complex or large for it to handle effectively.
Your PC is old. This is more likely to be the cause if you’re attempting to revive an older PC and use it for modern gaming or 4K video editing. Two or three years is a huge amount of time for GPU advancement. You might just have to get some new hardware in there.
How to lower your GPU temperature
Sustainable temperatures are a critical component in maintaining your GPU health. Here’s how to lower those GPU temps back to normal:
Tumblr media
Increase airflow to your computer. Place your computer in a location where its fans can do their job. Don’t put your desktop on a carpet or inside a drawer or cabinet. Laptops, despite their name, don’t belong on your lap. If possible, always place your computer on a smooth surface, such as a desk or table. You can also put your desktop on a wooden or tiled floor. Make sure there’s room for airflow on all sides of your device.

Clean your computer and graphics card. To physically clean your computer, open up your computer casing and remove any dust you find. Use a can of compressed air to clean out otherwise unreachable nooks and crannies as well as your computer’s sensitive chips and processors. Pay special attention to any dust on your graphics card, in its heat sink, or in its fan.
Tumblr media
Replace the thermal paste on your graphics card. While your computer is open, replace your graphics card’s thermal paste. Thermal paste sits between your GPU and its heat sink — a mechanism that radiates heat. When thermal paste gets old, it can lose some of its efficiency, and it won’t transfer heat as well from the graphics card to the heat sink.
Tumblr media
Add or improve your computer’s cooling elements. You can swap out your fans for more powerful ones, or add more. You can also look into alternative computer cooling mechanisms, such as laptop cooling stands or liquid cooling systems.
Tumblr media
Reverse any overclocks. If you’ve overclocked your GPU, it’s time to scale things back. Revert your GPU to its default settings. You may even have to underclock your GPU. It’ll lose some power, but at least it won’t overheat.
Tumblr media
Use an older graphics driver. It’s common to see GPU temperature increases after updating your graphics drivers to the latest versions. If your graphics card is an older model, consider going back to your previous driver.
Monitoring changes over time
When you monitor your GPU temperature over time, you’ll get an idea of your own use patterns. This can help you determine the types of activities you do on your computer that result in higher GPU temps. Keeping track of when temperature spikes happen — and what you’re doing at those times — can help troubleshoot future GPU issues. Regularly test your computer’s performance as well to make sure it’s handling your favourite tasks as well as it should.
Monitoring your GPU temps can also provide you with an early warning in case something is going wrong with your GPU. If you aren’t doing anything differently, yet your GPU temperature is rising, it’s probably time to take a look at what’s going on.
Your GPU temp-checking tool can also help you monitor GPU temps over time. Leave it open while you’re using your computer, then check to see what your temperatures look like. Some games include the option to display system information on the screen while playing, so you can easily keep an eye on your GPU temps. Here’s how that looks in the popular multiplayer first-person shooter Overwatch:
