those words seemed to live rent-free in the boy's head for the rest of the class. he had met you during one of his class exchanges, when he switched with someone else because his schedule didn't fit his work hours, causing him to miss class most of the time.

you guys were close, to say the least, but very different. jungwon was quiet, always in his own world or tending to his gardening club. you, on the other hand, were popular enough to be known by quite a few people.

the fact that some of his classmates had asked him for "tips" as soon as he walked in to his 9am class had him wondering if pulling an all nighter the day before was actually worth it. to his dismay, he found out he was not hallucinating when others asked the same question.

his friend, sunoo, told him about the rumors going around. apparently, some guys were gossiping with their girlfriends about how jungwon and that one girl who was always mean to him were actually dating.

it was true; he had to let go a bit. even his own friends had said so a million times, but coming from you? it was different. he sighed when class was dismissed, waving sunoo off with his hand. too much socializing had him tired, and hearing his name being whispered everywhere only added weight to his shoulders.

it was normal for the both of you to get lunch right after your first class. your schedules were similar, with your next class starting an hour later than his. you had always treated him the way you did, and he knew it was lighthearted. it went with how you were as a person, actually being quite friendly outside of college.

it just seemed easier to you to bother him because of his opposite personality. you showed your affection teasing him all the time, but truth to be told, you found him cute. mesmerizing even.

"hey, lover boy," you greeted, waving your hand in the air enthusiastically. jungwon only sighed, giving up on trying to stop you from calling him that. you had given him that nickname back when he told you the story of his first crush.

"can we just go get lunch? my head is pounding."

jungwon brushed past you, his shoulder slightly hitting yours as he walked by. you didn't think this would cause so much stress on him, so now you felt guilty to even accompany him to lunch.

the walk to the convenience store and back was quiet. jungwon seemed lost in his thoughts, his eyebrows furrowing every now and then. it seemed as if he was having a fight with himself. you checked your phone to see the time, realizing it was almost time for his class.

biting the inside of your cheek, you grabbed jungwon by the shoulder, stopping him in his tracks.

"look, im sorry if all of this made you uncomfortable, i'll try to fix every-"

you were cut off when both of his hands grabbed your shoulders, pulling you into a quick kiss.

"you want to see a lover boy? then you'll get a lover boy. we're dating after all, right?

it should come as no surprise that mingyu and soonyoung are dedicated to blowing up minghao's phone at any given chance. minghao is your average tiktok user, but mingyu always seems to be one step ahead. the latter is the type to beg minghao to do certain trends with him. some make it on to the group's account; most are filmed for their own personal enjoyment. he'll groan and grumble about it, but minghao is secretly happy to indulge mingyu every single time.

soonyoung's a lot more in-his-face about it. the two have a snap streak that's over a year long (don't ask how they managed it), and soonyoung will bother minghao about it until they're both fighting. outsiders might think minghao doesn't care about something so childish, but there have been one or two instances where he's snatched up soonyoung's phone himself to keep the damn streak alive. something about getting this far and making sure it doesn't go to waste, etc.

like everyone in the group, minghao also has a 'burner' account. the group generally agrees not to talk about the spaces they carve out on the internet for themselves— a space where they can unapologetically be themselves away from the group. but minghao's choice for his second identity is a little... unconventional. yet also entirely expected, in some ways. he runs a tea review account.

it's not something he strives to curate. minghao just posts about new cups of tea that he gets to try. his captions range from something as simple as "4/10. the malty flavor kinda sucked" to something as poetic as "this tea, like a breath of autumn, unfurls with a warmth that settles into the soul." there's no clear indication that he's the person behind it. (except maybe for the svt-themed username and THEpalee.)

jun's poison of choice in bugging minghao is instagram reels. he's the type to send a dozen in a row, and minghao is likely to leave most of them on read. jun knows it's a good reel when he draws a reaction from minghao, be it an emoji react or a full-on reply. another one of jun's guilty pleasures is sending minghao reels of him/the group, because that always, without fail, gets minghao to say something.

finally: there's a lot of the group's pictures that minghao doesn't always get to see. the boys' group chat moves rather quickly on most days, making it difficult to keep up with the messages being sent; the same can be said for the posts on sns. and so minghao relies heavily on what is admittedly one of his favorite apps— pinterest.

minghao has a secret board dedicated to pins of the boys throughout the years. there's thousands of pins on it now, and he likes to scroll through it every so often. it's always such a humbling reminder to him of how much they've changed and what has stayed the same. he hasn't changed the board's title since he first made it years ago because it still rings true. 青年. youth. his youth, through and through.

DAY 1.

you had to admit you were excited to see what the week would bring for you. the reason why you called jungwon "lover boy" was because he did everything to get his crush to like him back. it was cute if you were being honest, but based on what had happened afterward, you felt like the person didn't deserve jungwon's efforts at all.

he said he'd change, and he's never shown interest in anyone romantically since you met him, let alone after hearing about his past experiences. of course, that happened when he was in high school, but you didn't think it would follow him all the way to his college life.

jungwon was always invested in his classes and work, never really showing his true colors to the world. you, on the other hand, managed to gain a reputation of your own in your field of study. how the two of you clicked so well is anyone's guess, but it was definitely one of the best friendships you had made thus far.

after your first class of the morning was over, you waited in your usual meeting spot for jungwon. it was quite rare for him to be there later than you, but you assumed he had fallen asleep in class or was probably with sunoo doing whatever. it had happened before.

you sat on the small bench under the tree that was just a few steps away. you sighed, stretching your arms a bit after a long, boring lecture. the people walking out of the building dwindled from many to just a few. it made you tilt your head, wondering why your friend wasn't out yet.

suddenly, a pair of hands covered your eyes. it startled you at first, but the cologne that reached your nose gave away the identity of the person behind you.

"jungwon?"

"thats right," he replied.

he removed his hands from your eyes, swiftly placing them under your chin to tilt your head back. he smiled sheepishly, revealing his teeth. your head now rested on his stomach as he stood behind you, caressing your face with his hands.

"lunch is on me today, girlfriend."

his behavior was different from his usual self, but it matched his quiet and serene personality. your last boyfriend matched your crazy and extravagant character, but jungwon was much calmer.

you blushed at the way he had called you "girlfriend." it was different, and you had to admit you liked it. you sat up straight, giving your whole back to him.

"great! i didn't bring any money today, so i was going to ask you to pay anyway."

he knew you were lying, but he wouldn't admit that.

as you both began walking, you noticed how his hand hesitantly tried to grab yours. despite jungwon bringing up the challenge himself, it was cute to see him being nervous. you, being your bold self, took his hand in yours, smiling when his head instantly turned to look at your way.

"Couples hold hands. Isn't that right, boyfriend?"

Soft rays of the warm,summer sun slipped through the blinds into the stark white room. Logan doesn't remember how he got into this hospital room or why the hell a sleeping Max Verstappen,a damn world champion,was in a chair near the bed. It all came rushing back after that thought though.

The crash.

The painful crack in his knee.

The fire.

The words.

The pills and razor.

The aftermath.

He's pretty sure Max found him on his driver's room floor,bleeding from cuts on his thighs,holding a empty paracetamol bottle and a very clearly broken knee. It was clear what he did and yet Max still helped him. Logan didn't want to be helped and yet he still got it. He wondered who knew,if his family back in Florida knew...he wonder if Oscar knew. It didn't matter now,he was already in a hospital room and the whole world probably knew.

He didn't notice that Max had woken up and was now watching Logan stare up at the ceiling,recounting another failure in his life.

"You're awake?" Max's sleep-ridden voice fills Logan's ears. He slowly turn his head in the direction of Max and he nods,not trusting his voice enough to say something.

"You've been unconscious for a few days now,luckily after your crash,this week's race was postponed." Max reassured Logan,that he wasn't gone for long. That he was still alright,that he could be here for Logan,to support him but unfortunately all Logan gathered from his words is that he was the reason the rest of the drivers couldn't continue with the success.

"I'm sorry..." Logan's unused voice whispered to Max.

"What are you sorry for? There's nothing to be sorry for Logan." Max says,a tone that reminded Logan of his older brother,reassuring and comforting. Logan felt sorry for a lot of things but he didn't need to go into detail now

"You could've have raced this week,gotten another win but 'stead you're here." Sad tone tainted Logan's words. Max looked at him as of he had said the worst thing possible.

"Your life is more important than me wining another race,Logan." Max says firmly. Max was angry at Willams,at James Vowles for making this poor boy think he's worth less than he really is. He can't believe that Willams let Logan walk off with broken knee,not even caring enough to do a simple once over after his crash.

He almost broke down when he found Logan,body stiff on the floor of his driver's room. He had went to check on him because even though he and Logan didn't talk much,he was still worried about the boy. He had once seen Logan buy a razor,now looking back,he should've done something. At the time,he didn't think much of it,he thought Logan was buying a razor to shave but he should've looked more into the bandages over the younger's arms,slightly stained red.

Max hands Logan his phone. "I imagine there's notifications for you to look at or something."

Logan took his phone and opened it,he ignored the missed calls from his parents,the hundreds of messages from Oscar,Dalton and Alex. He opened his Instagram and decided to make a post. He went to his camera app and took a few pictures of what he saw around him,one of his teary face. He then noticed Max holding his hand and looked up at him,Max nodded understanding what Logan wanted to do. He took a quick pic from an angle that look like someone else took the photo and decided to post that along with three other photos,including the one of his face.

Logan gave back is phone to Max and closed his eyes,he knew his post would cause some problems with PR probably but right not he wanted to sleep.
