It's late at night, and there's a knock at Iruka's door. Standing on the other side is Sasuke, with Sarada in his arm. She's older now, as some time has passed. She's about a year old now.
He's come to visit. And to show Iruka something.
Even though it's like.... 11:54 PM.

Sasuke looked at the clock. Then at the door. Then... back at the clock.
It was seven minutes past six.
He frowned. Itachi should have been here by now. But he was seven minutes late and, more importantly, not here. What had happened? Why was he late? Had someone decided to take out their misplaced anger on him? Accosted him in the street? Had some enemy attacked him? The possibilities were endless.
Eight minutes.
Nine minutes.
Ten.
If Itachi had a propensity for being late, maybe this would have been fine. But he wasn't. He always made it home either early or on time. Now he was ten minutes late? Something had to be wrong.
Sasuke yanked open the door, but immediately went to the roof. After casting a quick glance around and not seeing a brother quickly making his way home, his hands formed quick signs and he summoned Garuda. Let the hawk search for him from the sky while Sasuke searched from the ground.
Jumping down, Sasuke activated his Sharingan and scanned the crowds and homes he passed by as he ran through the village. He would not stop until Itachi was found.

Sarada is still crying every night. Sasuke is tired. He arrives at Iruka's office doorstep one day, baby tucked against his one arm. "I need help," he says. He looks like a bit of a mess. "She won't sleep through the night." // @irukasenseii

After the war, Sasuke spent a lot of time traveling throughout various lands, stopping at whatever village he might pass through to buy supplies. He was currently visiting a village, he didn't know the name, that he'd never been to before. Stopped at a fruit store, he pointed at the apples. "Five of these, thank you." They were loaded into a bag, and Sasuke's hand stretched out to take them, when he paused, hand hovering in the air.
A familiar chakra signature.
Frowning, he took the bag, tossed some money at the vendor, and was off in that direction, being as hidden as possible (which was quite hidden) as he nearly caught up to confirm who it was.
Well, well, well. Deidara of the Akatsuki. Formerly. Alone, unguarded. Sasuke smirked. This could be fun. He watched Deidara walk down a street. Tucking his bag into his pack, he used Kamui to teleport to a place Deidara would be walking by in a few seconds.
So, Deidara would find Sasuke leaning against the wall, casually, arms folded, looking at him. "Hey," he'd say, smirking. "Long time, no see."

The look Deidara is giving him. Sasuke can only stare right back. Deidara must be unaware: Sasuke has enough money. True, the elders of Konoha hadn't simply handed over the entirely of the Uchiha clan's wealth as inheritance after the massacre or even after Sasuke came of age, but that didn't mean Sasuke hadn't inherited some funds from the clan as its only heir.
Sasuke lets out little sigh of slight frustration -- and partial amusement -- as Deidara seems to realize (for the first time?) just how difficult it must have been dealing with Ame's preferences. At least, maybe he does, because even Deidara seems to have a hard time listing them all out, and decides he's going to make Sasuke a handwritten list.
"That would be helpful," Sasuke says quietly, as they quickly exit the room.
A while later, Sarada's in her room playing with some toys, and Sasuke's just.... reading in the main room. It's been a while since he had this much peace, and he's grateful. When Deidara comes into the room, Sasuke glances up, puts the scroll down, and waits, eyes flickering to the list in Deidara's hands.
"No, it's fine, I'll get them all," Sasuke says. And Deidara can't help but stare at the Uchiha as if he grew a second head. It was okay, he said, until he saw the price tag. It was a lot of money. Deidara should know since all he bought for Ame was books--and clothes. He wasn't a child that had an interest in toys. He had one toy, and that was it. Wait, speaking of which, where was Blue-Blu? Fuck.
"Preferences? Ummm..." Deidara tried to think but it was, again, a lot. Outside his food dislikes, there was also fabrics Ame didn't like because of his extra mouths, or the fact he had to sleep with a humidifier because his lungs were weak--all of which Deidara knew Sasuke wasn't doing. It was no question Ame was being a nightmare. But, it also wasn't Sasuke's fault. How was he meant to know? Plus, Deidara hadn't been in the position to tell him. "I'll write you a list, hn." Then, he ushered his son to his bedroom.
Finally, Deidara washed him up. It wasn't that Ame couldn't wash himself—he could, which was impressive for a child his age. But because he hated getting soap in his handmouth, Deidara had to be the one to wash his hair. Once Ame was squeaky clean, his mother got him dressed, and Deidara discovered all the clothes his son had were made of cotton. No good. So, that was the first thing to be addressed. He also found no humidifier and, worse yet--no Blue Blu. Ame couldn't sleep without his plush puppy. Now, his son's bad attitude made more sense.
Deidara left Ame in his bedroom to watch television while the blonde searched for Sasuke. He had his list, and it was a long one. But, this was his son, damn it. He reckoned the Uchiha would be the same for his daughter.

It's in a small glass box Sasuke's holding, filled with the leaves, dirt, and rocks from where Sasuke found it, as well. "It eats plants," Sasuke tells him, pointing out the spindly hard-shelled creature standing on one of the rocks in the enclosure. It seemed to have evolved from a stickbug, would be Sasuke's guess.
This is presented to Shino.

Sasuke woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, an ache in his chest, and a throbbing in his head. He was in an inn somewhere close to Kirigakure, on... an interesting little detour.
He had heard Suigetsu was living in Kiri now, having decided not to return to Orochimaru and, honestly, Sasuke had been relieved to hear it. But it didn't assuage his guilt over abandoning Taka, or his feeling that he simply should have done more, and should really visit them more often.
Relationships were difficult when, throughout your life, most of them were built upon unrealistic expectations thrust upon you. Sasuke didn't quite know how to show how much he cared about them still, didn't exactly feel comfortable expressing it.
Which was why he hadn't simply opened a portal right to Suigetsu and walked right up to him. No, instead he was staying at an inn nearby. Except now he was having nightmares about it. Stupid nightmares.
So Sasuke wrenched himself out of bed, slipped on his vest and his cloak, and after tidying up a bit (but he still looked pretty bad), decided now was as good a time as ever.
Suigetsu would get a rather interesting visitor tonight.

One eyebrow arches as Sasuke regards Orochimaru with some amount of disdain. "Believe what you want, I don't care," he says, eyes wandering to some random corner in the ceiling to demonstrate his disinterest in the conversation. "I don't care for insults. If you think I don't have any other strengths, what's the point of all this. I'll find someone else to train me." He's bluffing, partially at least.

I've always found this scene really depressing. Sasuke never laughs once in the entirety of Naruto (both pre- and post-timeskip)—at most, he smiles or smirks. And then we get this scene. There's something deeply tragic and uncomfortable about a character laughing for the first time as he's having a complete mental breakdown.
