Rising at 5 am may sound early to a lot of us but it’s a typical start to the day for Justin Hartley. But, come on, would you expect anything less from the guy who is both starring in and executive producing Tracker, last season’s biggest broadcast series? “You wake up in the dark and then you work all day and kind of open your eyes and all of a sudden it’s dark again,” Hartley laughs from Vancouver, Canada, where he’s on day three of an eight-day shoot for the second season’s fourth episode. He adds with sincerity, “It’s a lovely life.”
Today is what the Illinois native calls a “light day,” which seems like anything but considering it’s filled with meetings, reading Tracker scripts (and others he may want to develop), working out, grabbing a bite to eat, checking in with his 20-year-old daughter Isabella as well as spending time with wife Sofia Pernas. Also, pressing pause on all that to talk with this reporter about Tracker’s second season, which begins October 13 on CBS.
It’s no surprise that hard work is in the 47-year-old actor’s Midwest blood. “My parents are really hard workers and they’re from the Midwest as well, so there’s definitely something to that,” he said prior to Tracker’s post-Super Bowl premiere in February “It is funny, isn’t it, when you meet someone from the Midwest, you automatically are like, ‘oh, brother, or sister.’ It’s an interesting thing, right?”
The path from Illinois to our TVs started in 2002 when he played often-shirtless Fox Crane for four years on NBC’s daytime soap Passions before leaping to prime time for heroic roles like Oliver Queen (aka Green Arrow) on the CW’s Smallville (as well as Arthur C. Curry, aka Aquaman, in an unsold TV pilot). More guest roles came along on dramas like Revenge and Mistresses as well as a daytime return from 2014-16 as Adam Newman on The Young and the Restless. But his career catapulted in 2016 when he began playing troubled actor Kevin Pearson, one of the Big 3 siblings alongside Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) on NBC’s heartfelt hit This Is Us.

It was actually before This Is Us ended after six seasons in 2022 that the show’s executive producer and director Ken Olin handed Hartley a copy of Jeffery Deaver’s novel The Never Game and the two sold Tracker to CBS. (Elwood Reid was then brought on as showrunner and executive producer.) Scheduling its debut after Super Bowl LVIII gave the show its best possible shot at success, though Hartley learned long ago that sure bets don’t exist in TV. “You don’t ever suppose or suspect that it’s going to turn into what it turned into. I knew Tracker was really good but, like I said with This Is Us, you just never know if you’re going to find the audience. There’s no way to tell.”
An impressive 18.4 million people stuck around after the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 to watch Tracker’s premiere live, and that number climbed to 30 million once various platforms and delayed viewing were figured in. When the drama settled into its regular Sunday night slot, viewership rose week-to-week, prompting a second season renewal by CBS after only four episodes had aired. Tracker would go on to become the number one regular series for the 2023-24 season and, according to CBS, the first time a first-year series had ranked as number one since Survivor’s debut in 2000.
As the 20-episode second season sets to launch on October 13, Hartley explains what he learned from Season 1 that helped shape Season 2 and talks about Jensen Ackles’ return as Colter’s brother, Russell, in the new season’s second episode.
After Season 1 of any show, you look at what worked and what didn’t. How much did that impact how you all shaped Season 2?
Justin Hartley: That’s a great question. We don’t take this lightly, what happened with the show. Now that we’ve had all the success, you look at what really worked and what we want to do more of that we think the audience would want. You put those things over in one box and you hopefully try to refine the project and the show and make it more streamlined. But you learn as you go and I’m sure we’ll have the same thing after season two where we’ll do that.
The family mystery was a big thread through the first season. Do we get into it again right off the bat in season two? What else is on Colter’s plate?
In the first two episodes, we absolutely do. Also, right off the bat what happens is we’re introduced to a job that Colter got a decade ago. There are two sisters and one of them goes missing. Colter is hired but he’s never been able to crack it and it haunts him. For the first time, we see this guy who is such a hero and always does the right thing but he wasn’t able to find the girl and bring her back. It says a lot about him as a person that he carries it with him but he does not let things go.
Jensen Ackles is back in Episode 2 as Colter’s brother Russell. Safe to say the show digs into the family mystery more?
It has more to do with the family thing. We left off first season with Colter having a lot of questions. He doesn’t even know who he can trust anymore. At the very beginning of last season, he thought his brother was involved in his father’s death, and then come to find out, wait a minute, he might not have had anything to do with it. Also, why is Dory (Colter’s sister, played by Melissa Roxburgh) hiding all this stuff?
So, Russell comes back and Colter’s got a couple of questions for him about this Dory situation and the box that she has and does Russell know where it is? Russell’s also pretty heroic in Episode 2 and they get involved in this really black ops, kind of strange thing. And these government officials start asking about our dad out of the blue, and you’re like, “Whoa, what’s this all about?” So, in every episode, Dad is becoming a little more vindicated maybe, or just maybe completely nuts. We don’t know. We dive a little bit deeper into that.
What’s Colter’s team up to? We know Robin Weigert is not back as Teddi but where does that leave her partner, Velma (Abby McEnany)?
At the end of last season, Reenie (Fiona Rene) decides that she’s leaving her firm and going to go it on her own. She’s got that big life change and, in a way, she teams up with Velma and you’ll see a lot of the two of them working together, which is a really interesting dynamic. They both have common goals with just some completely different ways of going about their business. Bobby (Eric Graise) our computer whiz, is hacking away. Then we have a couple of really cool surprises coming for Reenie.

Let’s talk about guest stars in the new season. Will Melissa Roxburgh return as Colter’s sister, Dory? I know she’s busy with her new series (NBC’s The Hunting Party).
Her show ends [production] way before we end so we can bring her back in the latter episodes of our show. And then Jennifer Morrison‘s coming back to direct Episode 6. I’m sure her character will be back.
Sofia is back in the third episode as fellow tracker Billie Matalon. That must’ve been a fun week having her back.
Oh, she’s the best and such a talent. She comes in and she just delivers and brings so much more to it than is on the pages. It’s just been a blessing having her and then also I get to spend time with her! It’s my favorite days in the world when I get to work with her.
What happens in the episode?
She calls on Colter because she needs his help for something. And of course, he’s like, “You need my help, huh?” It’s that kind of thing, like, “Well, okay, then ask for it. I’ll help you. You got to ask me,” that kind of thing.
How are you being challenged in Season 2 either as an actor or with the physical stuff?
Well, the episode order is a lot bigger so that’ll be a challenge. We’re only on Episode 4, so I feel great, Jim, to be honest with you. But it’s classic me. In three months, we’ll see how I feel. But there’s more physicality in certain episodes. The fights certainly are more physical but I don’t mind a bruise here so I just trying to keep my body healthy.
Going back to Jensen. You guys obviously have a lot of fun working together but when did you two first meet?
Well, we were both on the CW. He was on Supernatural and I had joined Smallville. I got to know him and Jared and all those guys over there at Supernatural. We’re all actors displaced here in Vancouver and we have a lot in common. He’s a family man and he’s got kids and loves his work and loves his family and loves his fans. We’re the same age and we just developed a friendship. I’d never had a chance to work with him until Tracker. He’s a very busy man, but I love working with him. It’s a treat.

Where do you see the show going, say, five years down the line. Do you have a vision that far ahead or are you just focusing on what’s in front of you?
That’s a good question. We’ve thought about it. Well, first of all, I would just say that, from your mouth to God’s ear, if we’re lucky enough to do a third season, a fourth season, a fifth season, a sixth season, that would be wonderful. I think the show works in the long run in that we have adopted this idea that although we are a Rockford Files [type show], we do develop the character going forward.
What I really loved about This Is Us…look, I hate to keep talking about it, but I just adore that show and being a part of it. I just love that when you watch a show like that and you tune into Season 1 and then you tune into the last season, you see the development of the character and you go, “Wait a minute, are they playing different roles?” But then if you watch it throughout the years, you go, “Oh my gosh,” and you experience those things with the characters. As competent and confident as Colter is, I don’t at all think for a second that he doesn’t have a ton to learn, especially about himself and his family and all that. Going forward, I think that will be how the show lives on a long runway, is that we keep developing this character and he becomes better at what he’s doing.  He’s a restless man, and for an audience member, at least shows that I love to watch, you love to see that growth of a character and we have that.

I’m adoring Laurel’s story so far. She’s far more interesting than I thought she’d be! I never would’ve expected she came from a rich family.

"TVLINE | Along those lines: I want to hear what you have to say about Randall and This Is Us given the Black Lives Matter movement’s prevalence right now. The show has shown us how Randall has encountered microaggressions his entire life. And now he’s an elected official in a city with a constituency that is predominantly Black: Can you speak to how real life might influence his storyline on the show this season?
Yeah. I can say this. I’ve had conversations with Dan [Fogelman, executive producer] and the writers from our show, and I know that the world is necessarily going to impact the world of the Pearsons, right? He doesn’t want us to be too specific with regards to what we’ll be seeing in Season 5. Number 1, there’s thoughts that were percolating in the writers’ room with regards to how and if to address the pandemic, right? And then over the past month/five weeks, there’s been, you know, since Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor and then George Floyd and others who went out before, right, there’s now like, “How do we address this, too?” And so they’re still — not knowing when we’ll be going back [into production] — wanting to reserve this space to say, “What else is there that’s going to be transpiring in our world that we also may want to incorporate into our show?”
So I know that everyone is paying attention, and that our intention is to reflect the world in which we live. I don’t think our show is, say, The Good Fight in the way that [that show] directly takes on the trouble that happened. It is in the world, but our universe is our own, as well. So, it gives us the freedom to say what things do we want to lean into and what things do we not want to.
I do think there’s really interesting conversations going on in the writers’ room and conversations that we, as a cast, have had… When we talk to each other, it’s really a lovely reflection/microcosm of what’s going on in the world. And I remember [Susan Kelechi Watson] and I, specifically, we were talking about how many of our castmates, how many of our friends, how many associates throughout the world reached out to us during this time to be like, “What can we do? Can we do something? If you need to talk,” like all these sorts of things, which were really lovely and warming of the heart — and simultaneously overwhelming. I don’t know what you can do! [Laughs] I appreciate it, but right now, I’m just trying to figure out how to homeschool this little boy. You know what I’m saying here? [Laughs] There’re so many other things that are going on through your head, as well, so I definitely know that it will reflect the world. In terms of how exactly it’ll transpire, you’ll have to give me a little bit more time before I can get specific.
TVLINE | You had hinted earlier that we might see a little bit more of an exploration of Randall’s past in a way that we hadn’t seen, and you mentioned the episode “Memphis.” That makes me think that this revelation is going to be big — but is it a huge emotional impact? Or are you maybe telling us it has something to do with William, as well? Can you give us a little more guidance on that?
It is an excavation of Randall’s past, connected to family again, so I think it’s going to be a really soul-searching sort of thing. It’s like… I’ll give a real-life example, and then you can draw whatever parallels that you want from it, right? My wife didn’t meet her biological father — this is kind of eerie to the show — until she was 34 years old. She had been told this one thing in her life. And then, as we were embarking on the possibility of having children, she was like, “Mom, is there any possibility, something else could be out there?” And [her mother was] like, “Well, there’s this one possibility. If you want to go talk to him, fine, but I’m your momma.” Et cetera.
So, we went to St. Louis, Mo., where we’re both from, Ryan [Michelle Bathe] and myself, and she got the number for this man, and she called him up. And he’s like, “Yeah, I would love to meet you. We can meet at the mall.” So, I went and did Christmas shopping while she was at the Cheesecake Factory in the mall… Now, I went and I sat down with them, and I was looking at a dude who looked just like my wife, and I was like, what?! [Laughs] Right? And so, it really was a wonderful opportunity for my wife to get to know this *whole other side of her family* that she didn’t even know, and she’s wound up getting a sister out of this whole thing, and they’re very close. And she has a niece, now, and it’s really a lovely thing.
So, I say that to say that there’s William and there’s all the other people that are connected to William and whatnot, and there’s opportunities to meet people. That’s it. [Laughs]"
This is enough confirmation for me that Randall is finally going to get to know the family of Laurel, his biological mother, and learn who his birthmom was and all about her life!! I can't wait!! Also, I think there is no way TIU can not address BLM. With Randall being a runner/jogger it would make sense to pay homage to Ahmaud Arbery. It was a small thing but Shauna said she ran track, too. It would be nice to see Randall and Shauna connect over that. I think Beth and her girls as well as Kate and Rebecca (and everyone else too) would be very upset about Breonna Taylor. It would be cool if Zoe was working on a documentary about Breonna.

What other fictional couple (it can be tv, movies, books, or even another fanfic couple) or celebrity couple reminds you of E/K, T/C and Z/E?
(Also for Ethan and Eva if you have someone in mind but no pressure ofc <33)
Oh my Gosh! I just realized I will have a FOURTH pairing. Dear God, someone stop me! This is lunacy! lol This is not as easy as I thought!
Tobias x Casey:
They came to me the quickest, and not just because another ask today reminded me of something. For them, I'd say:
Gomez and Morticia, The Adams Family - they're crazy about each other, even after marriage & three kids, it never stops. They can't keep their paws off of each other, forever call each other sweet names, and that newness never goes away. (In the Halloween template I did in October, Casey said Tobias always made them roleplay Gomez and Morticia. lol)
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen - The best friend vibe, the absolute adoration, the social media teasing, the children bringing adding joy, the imperfect beginning, but the perfect ending.
Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa - They just seem so natural. They fit and take life in stride. Years pass, kids grow, they're still crazy about each other.
Ethan x Kaycee:
Randall and Beth - This is Us - Two brilliant people with hearts of gold who are completely devoted to each other for the long haul. I also see Ethan and Kaycee like the parents of the friend group a bit; Randall and Beth, the most stable of the Pearsons, were often in that role. (Though I see Kaycee as a little more carefree than Beth.)
Tom & Rita Wilson - They're mature, still appear to be very much in love, they're serious but still playful, and their love is lasting.
Eli x Zoe:
This one was hard for me because I'm very unfamiliar with this genre. But this kind of works.
Katniss and Peeta - The Hunger Games - they are both leaders who do not give up; they have each been through hell, but keep going. But the difference is in this relationship, Peeta is the sunshine, and in my pairing, Zoe is the sunshine. No matter how awful (and it gets AWFUL), she always looks for the ray of light. This is one of the things that draws Eli to her.
Ethan x Eva:
This one is tough - I'm not familiar enough with them yet, but there are elements of
Harry and Sally - When Harry Met Sally (one of my all-time favorite movies and couples). It's the smart, witty banter that makes me think of them and Harry being a bit of a jerk for a while. Both of them taking some time to come around.
Maddie and David - Moonlighting - Not quite as rough and snarky, but it certainly has elements of this at the beginning of their relationship.
I'm going to think of better ones tomorrow, and I'll be mad at myself. lol
Thanks for sending this back!

Ok that new promo made me sigh. Are they going to have Madison get upset at Kevin in every episode?!?! Like this is twice in a row now, I'm seriously tired. Give Kevison some happy moments and please don't turn Madison into a nag.
Look, press release and headlines work in a similar way. They rarely tell you something detailed and/or positive, they will tease the conflict and drama because that’s what sells, that’s what get people to tune in and watch, they want to see how the characters will deal with the situation and find a solution to it.
Most of the things they show are hardly as serious as they tease and sometimes they don’t even take as much time as you supposed they would. You’ll never find a synopsis like “Kevin decides to take the next step on his relationship with Madison”,  “Kevin and Madison find a solution to balance their personal and professional lives together”, “Ellie reassures Kate that she is certain about giving her baby to adoption” etc. EVER. The best you’ll get in something that doesn’t sound either good or bad, but it’s extremely vague like “Kevin and Madison navigate their engagement”. And even the promos and sneak peeks of that episode teased problems and they didn’t release the pictures of them laughing because it would give the end away. So, I’ve learned that it’s a good thing not to take everything too seriously.
Now, I get not wanting them to be upset and in a weird situation all the time and I believe we all want the same things. We want to see them being happy and carefree. And I believe we will, I believe the first half of the season will be destined to giving them a few obstacles, but also obstacles that they will face as a functional couple, as two people that communicate, help and balance each other out and solve their problems together. So, even though they will have problems, they will face them in a way that only proves the audience how committed they are to one another and why this relationship works so well. Then, on the second half, once that’s cleared up, it will focus on them navigating parenthood, how they adjust their lives and relationships to it, probably Madison’s past, a few flashbacks of them alone and together... Justin said that Kevin is happy and he is having everything he’s ever wanted and that the storyline will be fun. And so far I’ve never seen him teasing something that didn’t end up happening, so I believe for the season 5B things will be lighter for them and that they will focus on exploring the end of Kate and Toby’s marriage, since they are the couple that’s actually splitting up. They’ll probably play with it too, like, have the general audience invested in their relationship to the point they won’t even remember Toby isn’t wearing a wedding ring in the future. So it will sort of a ‘gotcha’ moment, where they will reaffirm Kevin and Madison’s relationship, while finally entering the journey they teased on the past seasons.
That said, I still think it’s important to address their problems, specially because the Pearson family can be A LOT. They can be pretty consuming, they can be stubborn, impulsive, closed-off, insanely idealistic, self-centered, way too caught up on their own problems to realize what their significant other might be feeling despite their best intentions and love for them. Jack was like that, Kate is like that, Randall is like that, even Rebecca is like that and so is Kevin. We’ve seen (a lot of) times where Rebecca, Toby, Randall and Miguel gave more to their relationships than the other. Jack lied to Rebecca about Nicky his entire life, Rebecca lied to Jack about William her entire life, Jack would shut Rebecca out when she suggested recurring to professional help for their kids, Jack couldn’t discipline the kids, specially Kate. Kate has a tendency of drowning in her own problems and emotions and not letting Toby in and sharing things with him (that changed a little bit on season 4). Randall usually acts impulsively and drags Beth into things without talking to her first and further consideration and it’s a common pattern in their relationship, she’s usually ultimately happy with his actions, but she’s barely ever ready at first and it takes time for her to adjust and she just swallows things inside until they have a bigger problem they can’t run from before they can finally find a solution. Even Rebecca and Miguel’s marriage, so far it’s been more about Rebecca’s and her family’s needs, I’m not sure if it’s been a problem of their relationship or the writers intentionally saving the last seasons to focus on Miguel’s side of the relationship, but I think Rebecca does it a little bit too because we’ve seen a lot of Rebecca talking about her memories with Jack, but hardly anything about her current life with Miguel without Jack being mentioned, so I believe this can apply to her as well.
Jack’s and Randall’s nature have led them to have some serious fights with their wives and even threaten their marriage at some point. Because those were results of things they kept inside that grew into an issue they couldn’t overlook anymore. And Kevin has done the same things with Sophie. That was the entire pattern of their relationship on season 1-2: not addressing their problems, swiping things under the rug, sometimes not even noticing those problems, the few times they did Kevin got angry and even tried to manipulate her at some point... I don’t remember much of Kevin’s relationship with Zoe, from what I remember they were quite better and when he relapsed/lied to her it didn’t last long and they tried therapy and I believe he didn’t lie anymore, but they broke up over their divergence about having kids? Anyway, the moment their relationship was getting serious and they started to deal with more complicated stuff, it ended because they wanted different things.
So, Kevin and Madison will have problems like any couple does. It won’t be always, but it happens. It has to happen, because if you’re just in a love bubble and happy, then the relationship is not evolving. Sure, if it happens all the time, then the problem is the relationship itself, but couples need to face problems together to move forward and actually head somewhere in the long run.
Then, considering ALL OF THAT, specially how the Pearsons and Kevin can be too focused on themselves and forget to acknowledge the feelings of the person they’re with, I think IT IS A G I G A N T I C T H I N G they are attacking their problems immediately, disagreeing in a peacefully way, opening up, making ammends and fixing their problems or making the first step the very same day. That’s fascinating. It’s something that Randall and Beth and Toby and Kate are still working on and yet to achieve. It’s something that Jack and Rebecca never fully accomplished.
So, the fact Kevin and Madison seem to have it so far, it actually makes their relationship REVOLUTIONARY for the show and television as a whole because that’s SO HARD TO SEE ON TV.
Therefore, I’d rather Kevin and Madison facing their obstacles that way. Sitting down, talking, sharing, working together, doing it all of that with calm, composure, love and as soon as a problem hits them. Not hiding, swiping it under the rug, swallowing things inside until it becomes this catasthropic thing they can ignore anymore and it leads to an ugly fight where they say terrible things to each other and it even threatens their marriage.
And it gives me hope that I will never see that happening with them anyway.

Blue Jays Injury Report
CL Kirby Yates: Brought in to be their closer this season and was one of their big offseason acquisitions, out for the season with Tommy John Surgery
SP Robbie Ray: Likely the #2 starter for Toronto, is missing at least his first start of the season with an elbow injury
SP Nate Pearson: Toronto’s best prospect and the most talented pitcher on their team, out with a groin injury indefinitely
CF George Springer: Oblique injury, is considered day to day but unlikely to start the season
RHP Rafael Dollis: Back spasms, may miss opening day
Blue Jays Pitching
So we know that Ryu will start Opening Day, and he’s been a really good pitcher the last few years:
Tumblr media
He has elite control and when he gives up contact, it’s typically not that loud:
Tumblr media
That said, when he faces good teams, he's consistently worse, and when he faces the Yankees he is no where near a Cy Young contender:
Tumblr media
Ryu overall however is a good pitcher—he gets the job done in the regular season, and would be an excellent number two pitcher on most teams. That said, he’s expected to essentially carry this pitching staff because my god this staff is garbage.
Tumblr media
On the left are the non-Ryu starter options—they should have Simeon Woods Richardson up later this summer, but while he’s a highly touted prospect, he’s also just a prospect. On the right is their bullpen. Essentially the plan is “hopefully Pearson can stay healthy for more than two weeks and SWR can pitch well later this year to make up for the pure trash that we put on the mound.”
The Yankees have a lot of question marks in their rotation, but at least we know that if the players stay healthy, they’re good, and we have a deep bullpen as well. Toronto has a lot of question marks in their rotation, but for them it’s more of a “hopefully they can be league average” and they might have the worst bullpen from a contender since the Detroit Tigers.
Blue Jays Lineup
As awful as the pitching is for the Blue Jays, their lineup is just ridiculously talented and loaded. Here’s a projected lineup for Opening Day if Springer is healthy (2020 OPS+ in parentheses):
1. CF George Springer (140)
2. 3b Cavan Biggio (123)
3. SS Bo Bichette (128)
4. RF Teoscar Hernandez (148)
5. 1b Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (116)
6. LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (139)
7. 2b Marcus Semien (92)
8. DH Rowdy Tellez (140)
9. C Alejandro Kirk (168)
Lineup up and down the roster is just stacked, and they would still have Randal Grichuk off the bench. The player on the team I’d fear the most as the Yankees however is Bo Bichette:
Tumblr media
In his two seasons (which still hasn’t added up to a full season) he’s been an absolute monster as a 23 year old shortstop. If you looked at his career and said “this is what he’d do in 162 games” he’d drop 58 doubles and 35 homers on you, which is just disgusting.
Tumblr media
He never walks, but those are some insane xBA and xSLG numbers, and he consistently hits the ball and hits it hard. He uses the entire ballpark as well:
Tumblr media
To me he’s a clear future MVP candidate, but as a Yankee fan by biggest fear is he goes from being the best doubles hitter in the league to turning those doubles into putting up 40+ homer seasons.
Yankees Focus On: Giancarlo Stanton
Here are Giancarlo’s three Opening Days in a Yankees uniform so far:
2018 at Toronto: 3-5, 2 HR, 1 2b, 4 Rbi, 1 K
2019 vs Baltimore: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 K
2020 at Washington: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 Rbi, 1 K
youtube
Here are Stanton’s career numbers (highlighted) vs Ryu:
Tumblr media
Here are Stanton’s career numbers vs the Blue Jays:
Tumblr media
Here are Stanton’s spring training stats:
Tumblr media
If I had to pick one guy who’s likely to put up some numbers this weekend, it’s Giancarlo. He’s absolutely locked in right now and he’s always performed well to start the season, I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves the weekend with multiple homers.

Having caught up on a This is Us....Madison better damn well be Kevin’s fiancé in the flash-forwards. It’s perfect! I mean:
A) there is a clear, established pattern with Sophie (and Zoe to an extent) that he finds good relationships with his sister’s friends
B) It’s basically the inverse of Randall and Beth. Kevin (for better or worse) inherited his father’s need to bury things....mostly feelings. Beth is very similar in that, hence why they have this great bickering relationship. Randall *feels* everything which is why he and Beth complement each other’s strengths so well! No halls barred expression of feelings is basically Madison’s bag.
C) honestly, since we’ve been exploring just how much Kevin is becoming Jack Pearson’s son, Madison (of anyone) kind of reminds me of a young Rebecca in personality...like when Jack and her first met.
D) Kevin’s son is very blonde....like Madison blonde...just saying

Recently saw a huge long thread of “which character are you like”, and then Matt Mercer posted the link and his full results.
I was guessing some of the scores (”slovenly or stylish” or “disarming vs creepy”? What kind of scale are those?) but it’s probably not entirely wrong.
I don’t know the top ones, but Data, Simon Tam, C-3PO  and Ross Gellar probably isn’t far out, and I’m happy to see Giles in the top 25!

"This Is Us unraveled the gist of Laurel’s story, but there’s still much to know about what brought her to the same bus she met William on. Fans don’t know much about her — and neither does Randall. With William gone, some wonder if Randall might seek out answers through Laurel’s roots, just as he did when he took William to Memphis.
Considering Randall’s recent therapy session and the mother-issues his therapist pointed out, it’d make sense for the writers to weave more of Laurel’s backstory into Randall’s infinite identity loop."
Source:
Yess! I have said it before (every year!!) but we better get A LOT of Laurel, Randall's birthmom, at some point. Randall kind of dismissed his therapist when she talked about his biological mother, as if she didn't really matter because she had died in childbirth or right after from a drug overdose. But I don't believe Randall really doesn't care to know more about his birthmom. I think he is dying to know more about her and find some way to feel close to her even though she is dead. He's just *really* scared to go there because he doesn't want to acknowledge there is anything he didn't or couldn't get from Rebecca. But, of course, there is a lot she could not give him. She and Jack were wonderful parents but there were always things they couldn't provide him. They both resisted this idea in the conversation with the judge who did not want them to adopt Randall because they were white/not black. But we see them both struggle later with the reality that there were things they could not do for him. Randall as an adult has always resisted the idea that they could not provide him with everything he needed even though he acknowledges that being raised by white people makes it hard for him to relate to black people sometimes. I also think Randall has distanced himself from his biological mom because she was a drug addict and a) that makes her/himself feel like a terrible stereotype that he has worked hard to avoid b) he may blame her for William becoming an addict and c) it's something he has been hard on Kevin, Shauna, and even William about because d) he sees himself as someone who is above drug addiction, he seems to have little sympathy for people's struggle with it, and makes little effort to understand it. Basically, there is a lot to unpack there and I am looking forward to getting to know Laurel, with young William and as an individual. I would like to see her family, in the past and present, like we saw with William. I would love it if there is a connection to Deja and her family. I hope there is a Philadelphia connection there.

This Is Us producers drop hints about Kate‘s secret pregnancy, Randall‘s birth mother
When you last caught up with the Pearsons seven weeks ago, Kate had something important to say. The closing minutes of the Nov. 17 episode of This Is Us showed the mother of one who hoped to make it two having an extremely difficult conversation with her husband, Toby (Chris Sullivan). Kate (Chrissy Metz) started to reveal something that she had never talked about before - with anyone - that she had gotten pregnant by her abusive boyfriend, Marc (Austin Abrams). Questions loomed over the flashback of teen Kate (Hannah Zeile): Did Kate wind up having an abortion? Is that why she had a strong reaction when Ellie (Annie Funke) asked if Kate was judging her when Ellie revealed that she almost had an abortion? Is it possible that young Kate wound up miscarrying shortly after getting pregnant? Or - in the most outlandish and least plausible scenario - did she hide her pregnancy for nine months, have the baby and then give it up for adoption, adding to the Pearsons' rich history in that department? This exclusive clip from the episode answers that mystery; it was an abortion. This Is Us exec producers Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker aren't divulging exactly what you're going to see in tonight's installment of the time-hopping family drama - just that you are about to watch a formative and essential chapter in the life of Kate Pearson. "It's a really important episode in learning a little bit more about the whole psychology of this woman, Maxisys Ultra price. " Berger tells EW. "We've seen so much about her father's death, and we've seen some stuff about Marc, and we've hinted that that relationship had even more darkness and complicatedness to it than we've shown thus far. This is just a really important puzzle piece. When you step back and you look at Kate Pearson as a whole, this episode sheds some light, some clarity on everything that she's been through."And clarity comes into focus extremely early in this "really beautiful" episode, according to Aptaker. "This isn't going to be a lingering mystery," he says. "We're not going to draw this out. We pick up immediately into that conversation with Kate Toby right when we come back from the break and then we're going to explain the story of what happened." (It doesn't involve an ovulation test, only a pregnancy test, as the producers confirm here.)Marc - that toxic, mercurial record-store manager who was Kate's first real boyfriend and the last person that Rebecca (Mandy Moore) wanted to see hanging around - will return, as teased in the trailer for the episode. "He factors into the story in a big way," says Berger. "This will give people a greater understanding on the role that that seminal relationship had, and the impact it had on Kate over the years, and also give people some really, really great closure on that relationship as well."Also on the short list of things to be explored: The moment and manner of connection between Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Hai (Vien Hong). As you recall, the recently introduced Vietnamese grandfather saw Randall's viral video, which mentioned the late William Hill (Ron Cephas Jones), who fathered Randall with Laurel (Jennifer C. Holmes). Randall was told by William that Laurel died soon after giving birth to him, but now viewers know that she survived past that day, given the photos in Hai's home. How long she lived and if she's still alive are questions that will be answered shortly. "[What] this Vietnamese gentleman has to do with Randall and his life is something that we're going to be addressing early on when we return," says Aptaker. "It sends Randall on a really, really exciting journey for this next chunk of our season."Indeed, next week's episode will send Randall on a mission to learn more about his family tied to his birth mother, somewhat akin to season 1's "Memphis," which sent Randall on a journey with William. How might Randall handle the news that Laurel lived a life beyond what he knew? "Identity and the search for his identity is such a driving force for Randall throughout our entire series," says Berger. "We have some incredibly beautiful, exciting stuff coming up as he continues to piece together his past and his histor...

DC convention- Sunday,  Winchester Family Reunion part III
Jared and Jensen in the house.  They were tired but more recovered since the morning gold panel.  Some very good questions that momentairly stumped them, or maybe they were really tired.
A girl asked why Jensen’s Instagram bio doesn’t have the Family Business Beer Co website link. Jensen immediately hunches over his phone updating his Instagram while Jared offers to do it for him. Then Jensen sits up and looks straight at the girl and deadpans, “I don’t know what you’re talking about”.
A fan asked about how  differently Sam and Dean are dealing with losing Cas and Mary, Jared answered by saying that when something traumatic happens, you don't just get to take a week to just grieve, you have to wake up and feed your kids. So although Sam is hurting from losing Mary and Cas, he has the son of Satan in the bunker so he was to carry on.   I think someone yelled “spoilers” after Jared said “son of Satan in the bunker” and Jensen said, “What are you on, season four?  Hey, did you guys find your dad???  Bobby doesn’t make it!”  *Jared makes a shocked face*   Jensen said Dean’s coping mechanism for Cas’s death is to try and move past it because he feels like he can’t fix it.
Another question was if they would produce their own product after SPN ends, like how Michael C. Hall was a producer for Dexter.  Jensen went into teacher mode and explained that though he doesn’t know Hall’s situation, most actors are given the executive title as a way to get paid the producer’s salary because the studio/network can’t or won’t raise their acting salary.  Producer title is just a bonus thing that doesn’t give them any power in the creative or actual producing process.  In the end Jensen would rather direct.  Similarly Jared likes to take something that’s already created or conceived and try to bring it to life and believes he has a good eye for casting talent.
A question was asked about acting.  Jared said that people often say, “oh you’re an actor, that means you’re a great liar.”  But Jared doesn’t see it that way.  “We try to find truth for our character. I don’t consider acting to be lying, it’s just telling someone else’s truth.”  Jared feels blessed to have learned from Sam.  Jensen talked about acting for 14 hours a day.  It sounds like a grind, but Jensen said he’s grateful that he gets to act and play his character even for 14 hours.
When asked for what actors they imagine playing their character, Jared said Sam should be played by some one who has warm, empathy, and compassion, so he picks Sterling K. Brown, who previously played Gordon Walker on the show and is now playing Randall Pearson on This is Us.  Jensen would go with  Tom Hardy for Dean and his catchphrase would be, *grunts* (ode to his Mad Max character).  Jared said Sterling Sam’s catchphrase would be, “Why is my brother always grunting?”
Another good question was whose death was harder on their characters, Bobby or John?  They had to really think about it (or maybe they were tired).  Jared thinks John’s death was harder for Sam because they didn’t have the chance to resolve their issues or conflicts (I’m butchering this).  Sam and Bobby had a lot of chances to tell each other what they meant to each other, but Sam didn’t get that with John.  Dean said Bobby’s death was harder on Dean because Bobby was like another dad to Dean, and to lose 2 dads was hard for him.
As in tradition, Jared takes a fan from the line onto stage to ask the last question.  The girl is from Brazil and holding a flag of Brazil and trying to hold it together.  She apologizes for her English and Jared assures her that her English is better than Jensen.  She asked about what they learned in life.  Jensen said that since having kids he doesn’t live for himself anymore, he lives for his kids.  Jared talkd about rediscovering the world through his kids, like playing in the diret and find giant bugs (they are bigger in Texas).  Jensen joked that Jared was excited finding a bug backstage, Jared reenacted his reaction, “Jensen, look at  catepillar!”.
Jared and Jensen seemed to be in very good spirits.  I personally think they loved having Jeffry Dean Morgan doing the conventions with them.
