Okeydokey, so I jumped on the bandwagon and did the color wheel meme!

These were just all characters I liked :P

Some of these did not need pose refs, but some did b/c the poses were hard.

Kendra Saunder's ref was from adorkastock (link) to get the foreshortening on the hands right.

Raven and Kory's pose was from adorastock again (link)

Babs was reffed from a picture of Tiphany Adams, a wheelchair using body builder, doing a wheelie.

“I never stood a chance, did I?” asks Ray with ahuge grin on his face as he looks at Cisco and Kendra.

The pair exchange smug looks before looking athim.

“Sorry Ray, you really didn’t have a chance whenit comes to us,” comments Kendra before she snuggles close to her boyfriend astheir other boyfriend copies her on the other side of Ray.

Ray tightens his hold on his partners.

They love him so much, it’s amazing and he doesn’tfeel worthy.

“Stop thinking like that.”

Cisco pokes him in the stomach causing Ray togroan.

“Don’t do that!” replies Ray.

Sighing, Cisco looks over at Kendra who gets whathe’s thinking right away.

She brings her hand up to Ray’s face and make himlook at her.

“Don’t think that you’re not worthy of us becauseyou are. You tell us all the time how much we deserve your love so you need tostart believing it’s the same for you.”

Ray smiles, feeling his heart grow at Kendra’swords.

“You’re right. It’s just past experiences…”

He trails off, not wanting to bash his formergirlfriends.

“Hey man, we get it and we’ll help you with it;just like you’re helping us,” comments Cisco.

Before anyone could say anything else, Ray’sstomach rumbles.

The three of them look at each other before burstingout laughing.

“Alright, I think there’s enough of that. Let’sorder food then throw a movie in otherwise Ray’s stomach might stage revolt,”comments Cisco.

Ray moves his arm from around his boyfriend thengrabs a pillow and hits Cisco in the head with it.

Hey! Watch the hair! It takes time to look thisgood.”

Kendra rolls her eyes at her boys’ antics.

“It’s amazing between the two of you, we haven’tbeen eaten out of house and home yet.”

Ray and Cisco share a look.

Neither of them is brave enough to comment on howmuch she eats as well.

Food is ordered and arrives in a timely fashionfrom the three different places because they couldn’t come to a decision aboutwhere they wanted to get their food from so Ray just went ahead and orderedeverything they wanted.

“Thanks babe, for the food.” Says Kendra as shetakes her containers of Chinese take-out from him.

“Yeah, what K-bird said,” says Cisco with hismouth full of food.

He couldn’t resist taking a bite out of a sliceof pizza as soon as he got it.

Ray laughs because he just can’t help it.

“You’re welcome, loves.”

They take their food back into the living roomand Ray throws in Ever After because they all enjoy the movie and Kendra wasn’tin the mood for super heroes or Star Wars.

Just as they’re getting into the movie, Cisco’sphone goes off.

It’s the ring tone for S.T.A.R. Labs that hasthem all groaning.

“Guess we better go see who wants to mess withTeam Flash this time. I swear if it’s the Rogues, I’m gonna scream,” statesCisco standing up.

Ray pats his shoulder comfortingly.

“We’ll deal with whatever the trouble is thencome back to finish the movie, you can count on that.”

“Ray’s right. We’ve got this,” says Kendra.

Once they’re ready to go, Cisco opens a breach tothe lab and they step through.

Cisco did end up screaming because the Roguesdecided to rob a bank out of sheer boredom, leaving Ray and Kendra to comforthim after kicking the Rogues’ collective asses with the Flash, Kidflash,Firestorm and Killer Frost.

After Superman took over the Earth alongside his mysterious brother, you fled to a new one. Your father, Cisco Ramon temporarily opened a breach to Earth-Prime, allowing you to escape. You fled to Smallville, a place your father told you so much about.

It was easy to fake your identity, seeing as the Cisco Ramon of this world never married your witch mother, whom was dead for the past decade. You went by the alias ‘(Y/N) Saunders’ after Kendra Saunders who trained you to be like your father, a hero.

When you arrived at Earth-Prime, your soulmate mark appeared. It was the house of El crest on your wrist with the words ‘El Mayarah’.

So you’ve spent the last three months trying to decipher the tattoo and saying.

“(Y/N)! You going to the football game in Metropolis this weekend?” Jon Kent, a close friend of yours asked, walking alongside you. You both hit it off when you first started at Smallville High, his twin brother Jordan included.

You nodded at his question, your bags already packed back at the warehouse you hid and converted on the outskirts of town. You must have drifted out of reality because the next thing you know, you’re on the floor rubbing your backside.

“Sorry! (Y/N), I am so sorry!” Jordan’s voice panicked, trying to pick up your books. You quickly took notice and helped him, forgetting about your soulmate mark. “Why do you have Superman’s logo on your wrist?” Jordan asked, highly confused.

You stood up from the floor, dusting yourself off. “Dunno. When I find my soulmate I’ll let you know” You sighed, grabbing your spellbook from the floor. “I’ll see you both at the game. I gotta go” You changed the subject before running out of the school.

The moment you left the town to go back to your home, the overwhelming feeling of pain, confusion and anger took over. You fell onto the road, your bag dropping beside you. One thing you hated about being an Empath Witch, the negativity of others.

But this was different. It was like two complete strangers fighting over something, something you’ve only experienced once in your life. “So you’re the little witch? I’ve heard stories about you Ms. Ramon. Some said you were a low-grade Supergirl back on our planet” A man taunted you, walking closer as you tried to find a power dampener in your bag.

The man yanked it out of your hands, throwing it to the side. You looked up to see a man in an oversized metal suit. “Let me guess, you’re the guy who tried to kill Superman? Captain Irons?” You guessed, recognizing his emotional aura.

No answer.

“Remember me? The little girl you left motherless when you decided that all powered beings were evil” You retorted, your eyes glowing bright (F/C). Irons readied his hammer, it’s mere presence taunting you.

“You shall pay for Mariposa Delfaine’s death” You swore, snapping your wrist to one side. Irons. A wave of concerned emotions overtook your senses, making you turn. Looking at you with wide eyes, Superman landed to see the scene in front of him. “How?” He asked, coming closer to you.

You felt his emotions increase, causing you to clutch your head in your hands. “Sweet Jesus!” You groaned, falling to your knees. “This feels like the time I accidently read Clark Kent’s emotions” You compared, breathing heavily. “What can I do to help?” Superman asked.

You looked at him in shock.

“What can I do to help?” Clark asked you, seeing you limp towards football practice. “Excuse me?” You asked him. He looked down to your clearly broken leg, how you hadn't screamed with every step was beyond him. “Your leg (Y/N), it looks broken” He sighed.

Of course it was broken, you jumped from a thirteen storey window last night after you stole some information on Kryptonese. “I’m fine Mr. Kent” You answered, praying he wouldn make contact with you. You wouldn’t be safe feeling his emotions after his mother’s death. “(Y/N), you need medical attention. If you're not comfortable with Nurse Kelly, I know some basic first aid” Clark offered.

You shuddered at the thought of Nurse Kelly giving you first aid, that girl is kinda weird and her emotions match. You reluctantly sat down on the bleachers, praying he wouldn’t make contact. Clark kneeled down on the concrete, pressing his fingers gently into our leg. *dolor cesset humano tactui* you chanted in your head.

However when Clakr touched your skin, you bit the urge to scream. So much pain, loss… grief and regret. For a man that looked like he had everything figured out, his emotions were like a normal human only ten times more intense.

“Clark? You’re Kal-El?” You asked in a hushed tone. It wasn’t really a question for him but yourself. He was shocked, his emotions shifting rapidly causing you more pain. “My bag…. I need my bag.” You moaned once more, the emotions getting stronger. Clark reached for your bag, bringin it to you. “There’s an old book, open it to the page titled ‘Aliena Adfectus Donec Cantus’ and I need the first spell” you instructed.

Clark read out the spell, coping his words with better punctuation. Soon enough the pain ceases, allowing you to stand without an ache. You turned to Clark smiling kindly. “You know what El Mayarah means by any chance?”

…

You sat outside the Kent Farm, apparently Irons trapped Clark and Lois along with the boys tried to save him. You waited patiently for Clark’s red truck to drive into the farm, Jon and Jordan safe and sound.

“(Y/N)!?” Jordan’s voice yelled, looking up from your spellbook. His hair was a mess. He had soot and scraped cheeks as he smiled at your presence. His clothes were filthy but that didn’t stop the rush of excitement you felt in your core. “Jordan!” You screamed, running into his arms. You felt a weird tingle on your wrist but that didn’t matter. He was okay. “I was so worried when your Dad told me what happened” You muttered into his chest.

You both parted from the hug before you hugged Jon as well, scolding him for driving and ruining his Dad’s truck. “It’s weird having someone else know about Dad’s other life” Jon commented as you bandaged their wounds. “Well now you guys know how I can tell how you’re feeling now. Thank Jesus that it isn’t as intense as your Dad’s” You smiled, putting away the medical supplies.

Clark had returned, hugging his sons the moment he walked in the door. You felt the love seep into the room like a tsunami, you felt lightheaded in a goodway. “You okay (Y/N)?” Lois asked you, seeing you sway side to side.

“Empathy takes effect on my body. Positive emotions are like helium gas wehreelse negative ones are like touture. Kryptonians emotions affect me ten times more to a normal human” You slurred before Lois guided you to the couch. “Motus temporaliter coniunctus Clark Kent” you chanted lazily before the effects of Clark’s emotions wore off.

“I need to make a totem for your emotions. Is he always this happy go lucky and sappy?” You asked Lois, pointing to her husband. “Living embodiment of a golden retriever” Lois answered. You stood up, grabbing your bag. “I better be going before I walk into a trash pile” You huffed, walking to the door.

“What does El Mayarah mean? I can't find a meaning anywhere!?” You asked Clark, the door half opened. “Stronger Together, it’s what the House of El stands for” Lois answered for him. “How did you know that?” Clark asked his wife. “Kara”

Rain poured outside the warehouse you bought. You say bought but really you just spelled the owner into giving it to you for free. Your dog, Krypto snuggled up against you as you stared at your wrist.

You smiled to yourself, feeling at peace. Maybe being on this Earth wasn’t so bad.

“So you’re my nephew’s soulmate?” a man’s voice echoed. You looked around, confused to why Krypto wasn’t responding. His veins glowed green against his white fur.

“Who’s there!?” You growled, eyes glowing.

The ship tags are a bit of a mess for everything that involves Red Daughter; Kara and Supergirl if they are separate persons or split from each other; or any other alternative versions of Kara and/or Supergirl. In particular if they are paired with Lena. The Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor/Supergirl tag in particular is pretty much useless as some authors used it more or less a synonym of Kara/Lena and some author's used it to indicate that Kara and Supergirl are separate persons and both have a relationship with Lena (or something similar). c) Methodology

Started with the Supergirl (TV 2015) - Relationships by Character page on AO3 (as per late Feb 2022), which is very useful but a bit unwieldy (it also includes tags for which there are no fics).

Manually checked the ships

Included only femslash ships

Included ships/tags if the ship is one of the main ships in at least a few fics

Removed (nearly all) non-DC crossover ships (as out of scope)

Removed (nearly all) DC crossover ships (as out of scope)

Some editorial choices were made to keep the list manageable

As this was a mostly manual process (including reading dozens of fic summaries) there will probably be some mistakes.

d) Tips

Especially for rare pairs this AO3 tip is really helpful:

After you clicked on one of the AO3 ship tags, type "otp:true" in the "Search within results" box (under "More Options") and you will only see the fics in which your OTP is the main ship.

While this is often helpful, it is not a fix for all problems to filter fics that have several relationship tags. For example it is often not helpful for polyamorous ships as many authors tag fics with the ship A/B/C not only with A/B/C but (also) with A/B, B/C and A/C.

And remember to download your favorite fics, fics you want to read later and long fic that you are currently reading.

c. 1255 B.C: Chay-Ara, along with her beloved Khufu, the wizard Nabu, and champion Teth-Adam, come across the wreckage of a Thanagarian ship, laden with the mysterious Nth metal. The two use the alien technology to bring peace to their land and build incredible wonders.

C. 1240 B.C: Khufu and Chay-Ara are murdered by the priest Hath-Set, destined to be reincarnated into new bodies.

1917 A.D: Chay-Ara is reincarnated into the body of newborn Shiera Saunders.

1940 A.D.: 

Shiera meets Carter Hall, the reincarnation of Khufu, and her memories of her past lives return. She dons a costume similar to his and becomes Hawkgirl.

Hall and Saunders first encounter Dr. Anton Hastor, the modern reincarnation of Hath-Set.

The pair become founding members of the Justice Society of America, with Hall acting as their first chairman.

1941 A.D: President Franklin Roosevelt calls on Hawkgirl and the rest of the JSA to join the war effort, fighting on the home front as members of the All-Star Squadron.

1947 A.D: Hall and Saunders first encounter Jim Craddock, the Gentleman Ghost.

1951 A.D: As part of a scheme from Per Degaton, the Justice Society is called before the House Un-American Activities Commission, and forced to either reveal their true identities, or disband. Saunders, alongside many of his comrades, chooses to disband the team.

1953 A.D: Hall and Saunders are married, and have a son, Hector. They also discover the kingdom of Feithera, and adopt one of the avian humanoid natives, Norda, as their godson.

1979 A.D: Hall and Saunders are murdered by Hastor, and reincarnate as Thanagarian police officers Katar Hol and Shayera Thal.

18 years ago: Hol and Thal come to Earth, becoming members of the Justice League of America, and fast friends with Ray Palmer, the Atom.

14 years ago: Thal severs ties with Thanagar after the planet declares war on neighboring planet Rann.

10 years ago: Thal dies and Hol is gravely injured while helping to repel the invasion of Earth by an alien alliance that included Thanagarians among their number. Chay-Ara’s spirit enters the body of Kendra Saunders, Shiera’s niece, after Kendra fails to commit suicide.

7 years ago: 

Attempting to avoid the destiny that people say is written out for her, Saunders joins the Justice Society, becoming romantically involved with Sanderson Hawkins.

The reborn Carter joins the new JSA as well, and successfully convinces Kendra to relocate with him to St. Roch, Louisiana. Kendra finishes her film degree at St. Roch University.

6 years ago: Kendra answers Batman’s summons to join the Justice League after the active membership vanishes to ancient Atlantis.  

5 years ago: 

Ray Palmer is murdered by his ex-wife, Jean Loring, under the control of Eclipso. In response, Hall nearly murders Loring in cold blood, only stopped by the intervention of Kendra.

Kendra and Carter are called upon to fight in the war between Rann and Thanagar. While Carter remains on Thanagar, Kendra returns to Earth to put some distance between the two of them.

4 years ago: Kendra moves to Los Angeles, also joining the restructured Justice League and starting a relationship with Roy Harper.

3 years ago: Carter returns to Earth, only to be swept up in the Blackest Night. He and Kendra are seemingly killed by the reanimated Black Lantern corpse of Ray Palmer, but survive thanks to the curse placed on their reincarnation.

1 year ago: Kendra reluctantly accompanies Carter when he invites her to learn the secret of their past lives together.

Present day: Kendra is offered the reins of a major motion picture, and struggles to divide her time between her job and hero work.

Commentary:

And now: Kendra “screw destiny” Saunders. I went into most of the detail on the Hawks in Carter’s post, so here I’ll be focusing on what’s unique to Kendra, her ongoing fight against the pull she feels toward Carter, which is Chay-Ara’s spirit guiding her back toward her “soulmate.”

Due to a wrench thrown into the works of Khufu and Chay-Ara’s reincarnation cycle, Kendra doesn’t have the privilege of having memories of her past lives. Being Kendra Saunders is all she’s ever known, and she doesn’t care what her fate is, she wants to live her life how she chooses, especially if that means dating other men just to spite Carter.

Kendra’s got a troubled past and a fierce independent streak as she toes the line between embracing her destiny and outright rejecting it - despite everything, she still wears a variation on Shiera’s uniform, and still finds herself by Carter’s side more often than she’d really like. Will she fall victim to fate and end up linked to him again? Only time will tell.

In the earliest days of existence, before the Multiverse became reality, a spark of potential created matter and anti-matter. After that, two siblings tasked with monitoring creation came to be. Along with them, though, came a third being known as the World Forger. Unlike the others, it was set to watch over creations that would exist in the future. The World Forger made its home in the Forge of Worlds, a hidden place inside the sea of possibility that would later be renamed the Dark Multiverse. For eons, he created universes based on the hopes and fears of every living thing. While the most stable universes became part of the main Multiverse, The Forger would dispatch its dragon to destroy the unstable worlds so their energy could return to the Forge and be used anew. The name of that dragon was Barbatos. Eventually, Barbatos' lust for destruction led him to kill his master and steadily corrupt the Forge of Worlds. Because he was no longer doing his job, the unstable worlds persisted beyond their time and became part of the Dark Multiverse.[2]

Dark Nights: Metal

Eventually Barbatos set his sights on destroying the regular Multiverse. He was able to come to Earth at one point, and when he did, the Tribe of Judas worshipped him as a god. However, he was repelled from the regular matter Multiverse during the Final Crisis.[3] At one point of time, Barbatos chained Mandrakk who was banished in the Dark Multiverse by Superman during the Final Crisis.[4]Batman was sent back in time to the dawn of man by Darkseid with the Hyper-Adapter, he was noticed by Barbatos, who saw the similarities in the emblem that they used. Barbatos decided that he would turn Batman into a portal that would allow him access to the regular matter Multiverse in order to control it, with Hath-Set as his first conduit.[5] Barbatos, at one point of time, was hurt by Hawkman's mace.[6] Some time later, he managed to capture Hawkman in one of his many incarnations, and named him his dragon, mutating him into becoming defender of the Forge of Worlds.[2]

Many centuries in the future, Barbatos' followers started to secretly prepare Batman to become the doorway for Barbatos to enter Prime Earth from the Dark Multiverse. His agents, by now known as the Court of Owls, planned to infect his body with each of the five heavy metals from the Dark Multiverse. In the meantime, Barbatos began looking for allies for his cause through the different dark matter realities. His search led him to one of the worst versions of Batman to ever exist: The Batman Who Laughs. Baiting him with the promise of destroying worlds beyond his own, this Batman became his second-in-command and assembled other evil Batmen to support them, forming the Dark Knights.[7] At point, the deity Perpetua had promised things Barbatos to draw him up into the light.[8]

Eventually, Batman learned of the Owls' plan, and tried to go back in time and stop Barbatos once and for all. However, Batman fell into a trap and was exposed to the final metal. Batman was transformed into the doorway which allowed Barbatos and his Dark Knights to enter from the Dark Multiverse. At this point Barbatos had his subjects kill the Court of Owls before personally draining Superman and Wonder Woman of their life force.[6]



Barbatos reveals the "truth" to Bruce

In the Dark Multiverse, Barbatos put Batman under the illusion of being an elderly man reading a story about his adventures from his time as Batman to his granddaughter, Janet. However, Bruce noticed that his memories and the story didn't match, and this allowed him to break free from the illusion. Barbatos then confronted Bruce and revealed to him that the only reason Batman had become a great hero is because he willed it, that he had shaped Bruce to became Batman and that he is nothing without him. Barbatos informed Bruce that the Dark Multiverse had created thousands of worlds built by his fears and he picked the darkest among them to be sent into the Prime Earth, and that they were winning. Faced with these revelations, Bruce begged in horror not to see or know anything more, surrendering to Barbatos. Hearing this, Barbatos sent Bruce back to the illusion and Bruce continued to read the story.[5]

While the Dark Knights ravage the world and sabotage the efforts of Earth 0's defenders against them, Barbatos watches the madness unfold from the summit of Challenger's Mountain. To stay appraised of his plan's progress, he would typically talk to the Batman Who Laughs for information. The next time Barbatos actually makes a move is when Batman Who Laughs calls him to aid in stopping Cyborg, who manages to access the full power of his Mother Box, becoming an unforeseen obstacle. When the captured heroes escape with Cyborg's help, Barbatos becomes concerned that Cyborg's power-up could present a real problem, but the Batman Who Laughs is sure that he will not cause any real problems.[9]

Later, Barbatos returns to Gotham and waits until the Earth gets close to fully sinking into the Dark Multiverse. When the Batman Who Laughs gives him the signal, he begins to roar out his Anti-Music. His cry penetrates the dimensional barrier separating the positive and dark matter realities, summoning his dark army to overtake Earth.[10]

Clashing their metals together (Diana's bracelets and Kendra's mace), the two heroines succeed in helping Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, Aquaman and Deathstroke fight back against the Dark Knights, Terrific convinces Plastic Man to awaken, turning the tide of battle. Reaching the Dark Forge, Kendra manages to break Carter out of Barbatos' corruption (reigniting the Forge in the process), Diana reaches Batman and Superman (donned in Tenth Metal, the prime constitute of the World Forge), and Barbatos is confronted by Flash and Cyborg, who have gathered reinforcements from other realities (including the "53rd Earth").

Refusing to lose, Barbatos reveals his last resort; using the combined power of the positive energy of his prisoner Over-Monitor, the Anti-Monitor's brain's negative energy, and the Batman Who Laughs' dark energy, he plans to leave nothing but darkness. However, an unexpected team-up of Batman and the Joker halts this plan, the Justice League defeat the remaining Dark Knights, and Hawkgirl subdues Barbatos. After Over-Monitor explains that all living things have trace amounts of Tenth Metal, the League proceed to use this power to pull Earth out of the Dark Multiverse (it also results in the Source Wall shattering). After the Justice League lifts their Earth out of the Dark Multiverse, Barbatos is left tied down at the bottom of the Dark Multiverse, locked in chains made from Tenth Metal by the Over-Monitor. There, he would be forced to watch the Forge of Worlds burn bright again, creating new worlds.[11]

After Perpetua came into ascendance, her reclaimed power could be sensed across all across the Multiverse with even the captive Barbatos sensing it from within the Dark Multiverse.[12]

Dark Nights: Death Metal

During Perpetua's invasion of the multiverse Barbatos was moved under Castle Bat, albiet still chained.

While Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman enacts their plan to travel back to the times of the three great crises in order to stop Perpetua they encounter the Bat God who taunts them. He claims that every crisis is an example of how they've failed again and again rather than how they succeeded, and that a crisis was the result of things reaching the tiping point. The trinity doesn't listen and Superman knocks him out with a punch. [13]

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Cosmic Dragon Physiology: As the cosmic dragon of the Dark Multiverse, Barbatos is a being of pure destruction, able to consume unstable universes. He was able to strike down the World Forger, his former master.[2] The combined might of Flash, Cyborg, Raven with backup from various realities was not enough to stop him.[11]

Invulnerability: The denizens of the Dark Multiverse are very resistant to the attacks from the beings of positive matter, whether physical or energy based.[14][15] The Nth Metal is one of the few things that can harm them.[2] In the Dark Multiverse, Nth Metal is useless against Barbatos. Despite Hawkgirl flying through his chest with a blade fashioned from Element X, he was only temporarily stunned.[11]

Cosmic Awareness: Barbatos possesses vast knowledge about the different realities and the Dark Multiverse as well as the opposite Multiverse, including how they were formed and by whom.

Enhanced Senses: Barbatos watched the war of birds and bats at the dawn of man from the Dark Multiverse.[11]

Darkness Manipulation

Electro-Blast: Barbatos can fire dark lightning from his hands powerful enough to incapacitate the giant Hawkman.

Reality Alteration: In the Dark Multiverse, Barbatos can create dark worlds. Barbatos can broadcast the Anti-Music, consisting of the wail of billion failed worlds, from his scream able to bend reality as seen when Barbatos was going to release his dark music and sink Earth-0 so low within the Dark Multiverse to the point that it could never be raised again.[11]

Infection: Barbatos can infect others with the energy of the Dark Multiverse which fills them with visions of failure and death.

Illusion Casting: Those under Barbatos's hold are trapped into a never ending nightmare. Superman described this as being caught in a recurring dream but real.[14] Furthermore, Barbatos was able to show Bruce Wayne the worlds of the Dark Multiverse in a dream,[5] the same for Carter Hall.[1]

Immortality: Barbatos lived in the earliest days of existence, being as old as the universe.[3]

Transmutation: Barbatos has turned beings into demon-like entities with his power before, such as turning Carter Hall into the his dragon and Kendra Saunders into Lady Blackhawk.[2]

Energy Absorption: Barbatos can drain others from their life force just by touching them.[6]

Size Alteration: Barbatos can alter his size from being twice the size of Dark Knights to colossal heights.

Vulnerability to Nth Metal: Though nearly invincible, Barbatos has the same weakness held by all denizens of the Dark Multiverse: a weakness to contact with the Heavy Metals of the Dark Multiverse. Of these, the Tenth Metal of the World Forge is the purest, and therefore the most effective. Following this, Nth Metal is less effective but is pure enough to harm him. From there, each variant of lesser purity has its effectiveness diminished.
