I just want to say I still appreciate you for being one of the few people I see and agree with re: Only Friends about Sand being everyone's babygirl and SandRay being everyone's ship. GMMTV sells "couple merch" & does "couple fan meets, events" which shows to me they're not selling Bad Buddy, or Moonlight Chicken what have you, they're selling OhmNanon and EarthMix and FirstKhao and ForceBook. Contrast that with idk Riverdale, WB doesn't sell Cole/Lilli merch it sells Betty, Jughead merch. Or Squid Game, the merch is for the show itself, you might find Kang Sae-byeok, but you won't find HoYeon Jung (the actress) merch.

This all reminds me more of how kpop companies sell their idols; you buy merch for either the group or individual idol. You buy the BT21 items, or a Jimin blanket etc. And these companies bank on fans loving their idols so deeply they'll buy sixteen albums for the chance of getting such-an-such photocard of their bias member.

The way gmmtv promotes their "acting couples" is very similar to me - right down to the lightsticks even.

I can believe that some fans don't fall into these para-social relationships but it's pretty clear, to me from my observations of gmmtv fandom specifically, that a lot of fans do. The grow found of the actors, and the acting couple which influences how they'll feel about the characters they play to, at the least, a certain extent.

Like, I've seen people say their bias for Khao has influenced their feelings towards Ray. It can even be subconscious. B/c you don't just like Khao or FirstKhao you watch their "contents" of them together, see them being cute, want to support them as a couple, buy their merch or share things about them; that level of investment in them as people is going to effect how you view their work specifically the characters they play. Even more so b/c that's what gmmtv wants.

They knew what they were doing casting EarthMix in Moonlight Chicken even though Earth was a miscast - I stand by this, but someone like Peter Knight should've played Uncle Jim. Earth is to fucking young to play an 'Uncle' convincingly give the man some comedies pls he's so funny.

They knew what they were doing putting two of their most recognizable and popular acting couples (FirstKhao, ForceBook) in Only Friends to offset the "risk" of a high sexual series.

One year passed and you still don’t know where Sae-Byeok is, Cheol keeps asking you where her sister is but you don’t know what to say to her little brother. You just can’t say that you don’t know where her sister is, he trusts and loves you as much as she trusts and loves her sister.

You woke up from a slight headache, so you stood up and ate a little food, and drank a medicine for headaches. You looked at your phone and saw that it’s time for you to visit Cheol at the shelter again. You took a shower and wore your clothes, you used your bicycle to go to the shelter.

When you get there, you immediately went to where Cheol is staying and knocked on the door.

“Cheol? I’m here”, you said when you finished knocking. You heard footsteps and the door opens with Cheol hugging your lower body.

You kneeled to reach his height, “Hey, you alright?” you asked him and saw a man with red hair behind him. You pulled Cheol behind you, “Who are you?” You sternly say at the man.

“I’m a friend of Sae-Byeok and she told me before that she has a brother here in this shelter”, he calmly says.

He sighed deeply, “I...don’t know how to say this properly”, he sighed again

You were staring at the necklace when he spoke, you looked up at him again, “What do you mean? Is she in trouble again? I-I can help, j-just tell where she is”, you patted your chest as you desperately begged him to tell where your girlfriend is.

He took a deep breath, “She’s gone”.

You just stared at him, your tears rolling down your cheeks, “W-what?” You tried to blink back your tears but failed. “N-No, she c-can’t be….she p-promised that she’ll come b-back to us”.

You gasped in a lot of air as you look up the ceiling, trying to stop yourself from crying. After all the tries to stop yourself from crying, your tears just kept on flowing. Your lips trembled as you crumbled on the floor, the thought of Sae-Byeok gone just made you more heartbroken.

You clenched your jaw to stop yourself from screaming knowing that Cheol will be able to hear you if you screamed. He needs you, Cheol needs you, you need to be strong for him knowing this news will break the little guy’s heart. She loves her sister so much, this will be harder for him to take.

The man, Gi-Hun, kneeled to your height and rubbed your back, trying to calm you down, “I’m sorry”, he said softly.

You forcefully cleared and gulp, “I-It’s fine. It’s not your fault”, you tried to gather your strength and stood up with wobbly legs.

“Here”, he gave you a backpack, “Use it”.

You took the bag, looking at him weirdly, “W-What will I do with this bag?”

“Use it”, he patted your shoulders and left you alone in the hallway.

You wore the backpack and cleaned the tear stains on your face and took a deep breath. You opened Cheol’s door and saw him staring at the picture of him and Sae-Byeok, you sighed shakingly.

“Hey, Cheol?” You put a hand on his shoulder.

He looks up at you with those innocent eyes and you remembered Sae-Byeok’s eyes whenever she’s asking you silently for a hug or a kiss.

You cleared your throat, “Let’s go?”

He smiled at you and held your hand with his small hands while swinging it back and forth. The trait that Sae-Byeok also does whenever she holds your hands and she’s in a good mood or just like what she says, “enjoys holding your warm hands”.

All your memories with Sae-Byeok hit you like a train and you felt your heart breaking slowly and painfully.

You spend your time with Cheol and did everything to make him happy, just like what Sae-Byeok does.

You were back in your apartment when you felt the bag strapped behind you. You sat on your couch and opened it to see what’s inside. Your eyes widened at your eyes saw, money, a lot of ₩50, 000.

You closed the bag and put it aside. Your mind is racing on where the hell that man, Gi-Hun, got that amount of money.

‘What if it’s stolen? Wait, no, it can be. It can be stolen’, you thought to yourself. You remembered that if Sae-Byeok were here, she would just hug you and kiss the top of your head to calm down, but, she isn’t here.

Tears started rolling down your cheeks again as you remembered every little thing she did for you and Cheol. You looked for the bag since your eyes are blurred because of your tears. Once you got it, you opened it and a plan came up to your head.

‘Her mom is in North. This amount of money can let her pass the border, they can have a permanent beautiful home and travel to Jeju, just like what Sae-Byeok wants’, you kept the bag in a safe and hidden place as you crawled to your bed, looking at the side where Sae-Byeok sleeps. You curled yourself in a ball as you cry yourself to sleep, missing her warmth, and her arms around your waist.

You woke up and remembered everything, you slapped yourself and went to the shelter after taking a bath and wearing the backpack. You’re going to take Cheol to your custody until you can help his mother to pass the border safely and with no harm.

You stopped in cycling and sighed, “Sae-Byeok, wherever you are, I’ll finish what you started. I promise that. You held on to the promise you made that you’ll stay with me as long as you can...and you did. Now, I’ll be the one holding on to my promise to you. I’ll keep them safe for you, my love”. You wiped your tears and continued cycling to the shelter.

The colors faded from maroon to neon pink and majestic purple. An impossibly bright orange colored the world a sparkling gold as the sun descended. The sky changed from cornflower blue to a subtle purple, speckled with diamonds and adorned in one large orb of opal....

These were moments you treasured dearly. You had your head rested On Sae-byeok's chest, her soothing heartbeat filled your ears, a feeling of warmth completed your senses.

Night-time had always been the time when the demons residing within you came out to play, to bring out the worst. But, this day was different; this day, your angels decided to shield you from the darkness, pain, and agony. For the first time, your heart didn't throb; and your soul became a bird in the sky. With every moment came peace, and, with every breath, exuberance. All you could think of was happy and only happy.

Your angel was Kang Sae-byeok.

You weren't sure how long you had been lying in the spot you resided in; the pair of you got there, ready for the gorgeous sunset. That had long passed, and now, the night sky took its place. Every star had a story, a path, at least that was what your mind told you.

Your breathing was so calm and mellow that Sae-byeok assumed you had fallen asleep; she made no change in her actions, though. Continuously threading her thin fingers through your hair, all the while holding you close to her chest.

The serene feeling of this moment had Sae-byeok deep in thought, all of those thoughts involved you. She thought back to the time you first met one another.

Flashback

The heavy thump of the song's bass blasting through the speakers was enough to give Sae-byeok a headache. The steady bassline had taken away most of her natural senses; she swirled the liquid placed in the flimsy, red cup situated in her hand.

Downing the contents of the cup in one, she winced as the burning sensation traveling down her throat almost became too much. The night to this point had been such a bust, her so-called friends were yet to turn up, and she didn't recognize any of the people in attendance.

As her gorgeous dark brown eyes scouted the room, they landed on something. Someone. Her attention had been peaked at the highest of mountains. Even with all the drunk, dancing bodies attempting to block her visual. Her eyes were locked on the target. That target was you.

Attraction? That's the easy part, she was attracted to you, like a magnet. "There's just something about you," she whispered to herself. She began to gravitate toward your location.

You were simply there for your more confident friend, who suggested you should take a break from the barrage of tests you had upcoming. The idea was right at the time, but just three minutes into the night, you were simply an afterthought. Your friend was comfortably dancing in the arms of a man, laughing and joking, having the best of times.

Your mind told you to leave a while ago; there was no reason to still be here. Just a glance in a different area of the room was all it took. The deepest of brown eyes was focused directly on you. There was no mistake to be made; you happened to be the only being in this area of the crowded room.

Fear and Anxiety instantly kicks in. Your fight or flight response tussles for dominance. This Brown-eyed beauty gets closer, pushing through the sweaty bodies lined in between you. Even with how loud the music was, you feared she could hear your racing heartbeat from here.

Your head buzzing with possibilities, why was she so focused on you? Did you do something wrong? Surely not, you had been quietly sitting there since you arrived. You barely moved from your spot.

Before you know it, she is right there-face to face, a bright, silky smile written on her face. The world fell still, no words were exchanged for a while, but it was still the best conversation you had In a long time.

"Hey, I'm Sae-byeok. I saw you all alone, and I just thought I would come and say hi," her voice was sweet and made you feel at ease. All the nerves you felt had been washed away with the simple greeting.

Everybody else disappeared, the music faded away, the only thing that mattered to you was her.

That night you spoke for hours at this party; you were some of the last to leave. Sae-byeok was lovely enough to walk you back to your own dorm room, as you reached the room and spun on your heels to look at her.

She looked nervous; she nibbled on her bottom lip, deep in thought. It was eating her alive at the possibility of never speaking to you again. You lured her in without even realizing it.

Sae-byeok pulled you into an unexpected hug; you squeezed each other for the longest time, afraid to let go of your new friend. From that moment on, you were attached at the hip. You were best friends, sure, but deeper feelings were always there. Both of you had them, but the fear of rejection on both sides kept them at bay.

Which brings us back to now.

Sae-byeok assumed you were asleep on her chest; she knew how restless you were nowadays, so the thought made her heart skip a beat.

"I know you can't hear me, but I can't keep this to myself anymore. I love you; I have since the moment I met you. I just couldn't let my feelings get in the way of what we already have. If I have to suffer in silence just to be near you...... then it's worth it."

Imagine the sheer shock on her face when you held yourself up on shaky elbows, facing her with tears in your eyes; you couldn't form the words, even if your mind had any, you knew it would be a struggle.

She stuttered upon her words, attempting to explain away the clear feelings she held. All it took was a sudden surge of confidence on your part. You pushed forward, capturing the pillow-like lips.

When your lips met, your brain lit on fire, and the warmth spread throughout your entire body. After that, you were addicted, you knew this is what wanted, for you knew that you would lose yourself if you lost her. She was the half that made you whole.

Stars light the sky like snowflakes in the night, yet appear still, like an old photograph. As you parted, the only thing you could think about was being the best possible version of yourself.

For she is your angel, and she continues to fight away all the demons.

General notes: For me, fic is meant to explore relationships. I want to see how people interact and intertwine; friendships, lovers, enemies, found families, weird combinations of the aforementioned lists. I want to see people fit their broken bits into the same space as everyone else’s.

Free Guy - Guy & Buddy

I am literally obsessed with the way the ending framed Buddy and Guy reuniting the exact same way it framed Keys and Millie. What does that actually mean, for them? Is it a platonic soulmates thing, or does it move into something more? What kind of adventures do they get to go on in the new world, and who do they meet there? What does life become, when you don't have a specific goal?

If you're feeling existential, feel free to choose just one of these two and make a statement about how they find meaning in a 100% open world, where they can do whatever they want.

Literally, the first thing I said at the end of this movie was "oh my god, does the movie ship it?" I wasn't even sure I did, but I was absolutely intrigued.

So! The end is a bit of a philosophical nightmare. Here are all these characters who were built to do specific things - guard this, go here, say that. And suddenly they are granted free will. Clearly this is a little harder for Buddy than Guy, but it's such a rich vein!

Do they fight crime? How do they decide who is a cop and who is a robber? Do they play house? Where do they live, how do they spend their days? What sucks about being free? What's great about it?

Suicide Squad - Cleo (Ratcatcher II)

Her friendship with Nanuae is EVERYTHING. I'd love to see them get to interact, get to be friends, get to grow up a little together. If you're feeling super adventurous, you can make them kiss and I will be very happy.

Cleo had such a shitty life, but she was so happy. I'd love to see moments where her dad was well enough to care for her, moments with Sebastian before (first meeting?) or after (post-mission TLC) the movie, or even moments when she just felt understood and appreciated by the team. What do she and Bloodsport get to be in the aftermath? How does the father-daughter thing develop between them? Please no shipping there, father/daughter stuff is a hard no for me.

IDK why I came out of this shipping Cleo and Nanaue, I have never been a monsterfucker. But here we are, and here I am. I want these two to be happy together.

But of course, if that's not your thing, I will gladly take team dynamics, especially with Bloodsport and their father-daughter thing. How does she feel about having that bond with someone else? Does it make her miss her dad? Does she help him figure out his shit with his real daughter?

And if you just want to be introspective, which is amazing as well, I'd love to see the moments that made her. Moments with her dad, with Sebastian, with Harley or anyone else who she met along the way and bonded with. I just want her to be happy.

Squid Game - Kang Sae-byeok

I'd love to see her life before the Squid Game, even just a quiet moment with her brother where they actually get to be happy.

If you're feeling shippy, I love her with Ji-yeong, either in a stolen moment in the game or in a magically they live AU. I also would take a world where she and Seong Gi-hun get out and what that means for them.

Please no graphic torture scenes. General violence in keeping with canon is fine, just don't go peeling people or whatever.

I don't know how anyone can not ship Sae-byeok and Ji-young, they're so good and so pure. And the guys are all such unbelievable dicks to them. If you don't feel shippy, how about some girl talk in the bunks? Stolen moments, when they can just be young girls.

And I am fascinated by some of the meta that has come out about her accent; apparently she does her best to hide her North Korean accent around the others. What is that like for her, internally? What does it mean to always have to hide, even while she fights for her life?

I'm fine with AUs for this one; happy ever afters or just letting her and Gi-hun quit would be amazing. Anything to prolong her life, really.
