I find it funny how some people dislike Haurchefant for saying "a smile better suits a hero", and some people love him for it. I think it's interesting, and I kinda wanna talk about it. Spoiler alert, this is a Haurchefant positive post! If you don't like Haurchefant, please, don't interact with this post, I don't want to debate, if I wanted to debate, I'd have said this in reply to a Haurchefant negative post. This isn't vagueing anyone either, I've seen multiple people. People who don't like it tend to not like it because they read it as entitlement. Because they think he feels entitled to our joy. But that's not how I read it at all.
Firstly, there's an important context here of Haurchefant's character. He first became significant when helping us find the Enterprise, and from there disappeared for a time before coming in clutch after the bloody banquet. Both times, we come battered and broken, not in the height of our glory, but in our pitfalls, and both times, he hoists us up with his actions without a single complaint, and in the case of the second, not even an expectation of aid in return.
But we're not the only people he helps. For instance, he aids lord Francel and the frontier at Revenant's Toll, and in the latter case doesn't even speak to the people there, just sends aid. This shows that he is a kind, generous person- it's not an obsession with us or an expectation of our gratitude, it's just because he likes to help.
When he comforts Alphinaud after the banquet, he doesn't tell him to smile or tell him to get up. No, he asks if he's going to stop there, and says he suspects his friends will help reforge his spirit- no demand, just assessing his emotional state and suggesting who he should turn to for support.
Leading up to his death, Haurchefant expresses faith and care for us, standing with us even in the face of accusations of heresy and treason. His wish, his dream, is established- he aspires to be the sort of knight that is noble and strong, that helps people. And he sees us as a hero. By helping us he is helping everyone. He comes to care for us on a personal level, to have faith that should something happen to him, his sacrifice will be worth it because he helped a hero.
When it does happen, his first concern is whether we're hurt. It's when we start to cry that he registers that he needs to help us one last time, and tries to comfort us. "Do not look at me so," he tells us, reaffirming that he is okay with what is happening, that he will rest easy, "a smile better suits a hero." A reminder of what we mean to him, and what he died for. He wants us to be happy because he is kind, because we have so much to be happy for, because we're a hero and we've done incredible things, and he has faith we will continue to do so. It's not entitlement to our joy or even our heroism. It's just faith and warmth. That's why I love him.
#ooc#idk what to tag this lol#c: haurchefant greystone#i do understand why it wouldn't hit right for some people. I've known people that felt entitled to my smile#but I truly don't think that haurchefant intended it that way#and other language versions also have him say different things that support this like 'you have a beautiful smile- remember mine'#he wants his memory and his life to be dedicated to happiness; not grief. that's all#please do not reblog

FFXIV Write 2023 Day 26 - Last
Last: Noun. A final appearance or mention; the end or conclusion. Characters: Ayaka Mizushima (WoL), Haurchefant Greystone Expansion: Heavensward Rating: G Notes: Takes place after the end of the main Heavensward MSQ. References to That Moment! So incoming angst is to be expected. I think listening to One Last Kiss while writing this was either the best idea ever (because it set the mood) or a mistake (because now I'm sad).
No matter the time of day, that final moment haunts Ayaka’s dreams.
For brief moments during the day, she can almost ignore the ache in her heart—the way it feels like it’s being cut down the middle. She’s reminded though when she steps through the threshold of the Fortemps Manor, or when she stares up at the spirling towers of Ishgard, or when she walks through Camp Dragonhead without him greeting her—
(Once, overcome with emotions, Ayaka found a corner of Camp Dragonhead and stifled her sobs. None of the soldiers stationed at the camp mentioned anything, despite Ayaka knowing a few of them saw her, and for that she was thankful.
It was bad enough in Ishgard when nobles gave their condolences—as if they ever cared a wick about Haurchefant. The concern from the people in the Brumes felt more genuine.)
She cannot escape it in her sleep either. That moment, replayed over and over again. No exaggerations were ever needed. Haurchefant’s bloodied smile begging Ayaka for one last smile always made her wake up in a cold sweat, a sob bubbling up. She would hide her face in her pillow those nights and let the tears flow, curling her arms around her body and desperately wishing they were replaced by larger, more muscular ones.
Haurchefant wanted one last smile. A reassurance that she would be fine—that the last thing he saw wouldn’t be her crying over his dying body. She gave him that and, as the light faded from those beautiful blue eyes, she placed one last kiss on his forehead.
“I love you,” she whispered into the dead of night, clenching at the ring he gave her. “I miss you. Why? Why did you have to—”
She wanted to spend more time with him. They had plans for after everything was over—to have him meet her family properly and not through letters. She would show him Kugane and he would show her parts of Coerthas that she hadn’t seen yet. They wanted to wake up to each other in the morning, basking in the dawning light together.
But now they couldn’t have that. It was cruelly taken away from them. When the righteous anger burned out of her, she was left feeling hollow. Maybe some part of her died with him at that moment—the last fleeting innocence that came with the rush of your first love.

@ritterblood
Ysayle had had no illusions about how her battle with the Gration would end. Even with the aid of Shiva she was still one person but with a single crystal to empower her. Yet when she had seen the Garlean airship closing in on the Enterprise, victory was not the goal she held in mind, but simply giving her companions a chance to escape and put a stop to Thordan's plans.
If they could not, then not only would they be lost, but so would any chance of peace for the people of Coerthas--and likely the rest of Eorzea
Yet somehow, against all odds she had survived. When consciousness had returned to her she'd awoken in the care of the Lord Commander's doctors.
In the past there had been times when the people who had taken up her cause had told her she tried to do too much, to let them aid her, and that she would push herself ragged. Ysayle liked to believe that she knew her limits and would defer jobs to all who could and wished to aid. Sometimes she worried that some put her on a pedestal and simply didn't want her risking herself as she should.
After her time in this infirmary she was beginning to wonder if she was in the wrong after all. These chirurgeons definitely cared not for who she once thought herself to be and seemed much more frustrated than worried with all her attempts to abscond early from this place.
It seems she was not the only person given them this particular brand of headache for instead of being returned to the room she occupied before she was moved to one with a single other occupant.
"There. Now we can keep an eye on the both of you, but for Fury's sake lay down before you hurt yourself and give us all more work to do." The door shut with a resounding slam and much to her chagrin she could hear the sound of a lock being turned.
"Hmph." She didn't particularly care for being treated as if she were acting like a petulant child. Especially when she was still so in the dark about what was going on, and especially after hearing what had become of Estinien. She turned around to look at her now would-be roommate and was surprised to see it was a face she recognized.
Somewhat.
She had only briefly seen him in that short time where she stopped her fellow 'heretics' from taking the Holy See's bait, and when he, Alphinaud and the Warrior of Light had gone to save Ser Aymeric in the Vault.
"...Lord Haurchefant?"

Can I peg the ffxiv boys 🤤🤤
Ya know? Fuck it. We horny tonight.
Adults only kiddies look away.
Yes you can peg the ff14 boys.
Thancred
EMINENTLY peggable. Just look at that little dude. Hes the height of a min height miquote. He has the 'i do anal' hairstyle. He basically wears a collar. He is literally begging to be bent over any given flat surface and pegged within an inch of his life, please and thank you.
Enthusiastic about the proposition. In fact hes probably the one to bring it up. And buy the strap. If he doesnt already have it on hand, that is.
Urianger
He has a powerpoint presentation prepared for this very moment. It includes several different poses, a fine selection of lubricants, and even an instructional video on preparation. Idk if it kills the mood or makes it hotter, thats up to you.
G'raha
Not to be reductive about miqote here, but literally if you pet his ears and pull his tail a little g'raha will roll over and let you do just about anything to him. Hes already wavering on the edge of throwing himself at your feet at any given moment, he is so eager to please you, but he definitely gets more into it than he expected.
Aymeric
Sometimes you have to look at a man in power and go, 'i can make a babygirl out of that.'
Yes you can peg him. It takes a little bit of convincing, sure, and be prepared to put the work in this man IS a pillow princess. Watch him writhe and mewl tho, halones mercy he is pretty.
Estinien
No
Jk of course. Kinda. Its just that estinien has massive trust AND body issues, youre going to have to ease him into the idea. Just take it slow and be gentle.
Haurchefant
Another one who's wholeheartedly enthusiastic about the idea of you pegging him. He happily procures everything you might need for this, from the strap to the lube to the warm towels. Although, from the way he runs his fingers over the leather of the harness, thorougly ensuring that everything is secure, neither too loose nor too tight, his fingers and eyes lingering a bit too long....
This might be hitting more than one kink for him, tbh
Sidurgu
No.
Bonus
Ardbert
I will admit: ive thought about it. A once-enemy who turns out to just be a sweet dude? A guy with golden-retriever frat-boy energy and biceps bigger than my head?
Peg this man lovingly. There better be rose petals and lavender oil involved. You both deserve gentle things. You both deserve a soft ending.

For the ship ask game, 12 & 37!
12. List 3 ships you currently love
Answered this one previously so I will give three different ones, as I have many!
a. Minfilia Warde/Warrior of Light b. Haurchefant Greystone/Warrior of Light c. Ryne Waters/Gaia
37. Describe one reunion after time apart.
(Shadowbringers & Endwalker spoilers ahead.)
For Ariane and Urianger the obvious one is in Shadowbringers, which has all kinds of other baggage attached to it (like the time difference) so I'll go with something a little more ordinary!
They're separated multiple times in Endwalker and the lead-up to, first when Urianger goes to Garlemald with Thancred, and then when he decides to stay on the moon and help the Loporrits. Endwalker brings the honeymoon phase of their relationship (and their brief respite from world-ending cataclysms) to an abrupt end, and throws them back into their work, now figuring out how that's going to be as a couple.
One thing about Ariane and Urianger: they're both healers (and casters secondarily). While this means they have a lot in common and endless things to talk about, it also means that they serve the same role in combat and while there might sometimes be a use for both of them, more often they're going to be needed in different places rather than working side-by-side. This extends beyond dungeon configurations; often, they're just plain going to need to work apart to do the most good, and this is something they have to accept once they start heading back into the field together. There's a lot of being apart and coming back together, having faith in one another's abilities and trusting them to come back safe and sound.
And this is hard at first, after spending the first couple months in one another's pockets, sharing a bed every night, and so forth.
But they learn to accept and embrace it. When Ariane sees Urianger back on Etheirys after his time on the moon, she's so proud of him, not just for how he's grown emotionally since Shadowbringers but for the work he's done to bridge the gap in understanding between Hydaelyn's well-intentioned servants and the citizens of the world. His patience, his kindness, his eagerness to share his knowledg. Every time one of them says, "Urianger told us..." she thinks of him excitedly infodumping in response to their question and it makes her so happy, and so proud.
It's all part of learning to appreciate the parts of their lives that are separate as well as the parts they spend together. And the time apart makes the reunions all the sweeter.

date night -
she lets her mind wander off with wild thoughts at times, of what ifs and such - the vivid pictures it conjures in some sort of daydream. what they could have been now. where they could go, could have seen. her favorite comes back to her at night, often as she lays awake in the flickering candlelight. a date, perhaps. a journey to providence point, where they could look upon ishgard and he could tell her stories. they had so little time before, so very little. a small indulgence, a guilty pleasure, these dreams were. but in the moment they were almost real.

Is that…someone asking about my Haurchefant x Laurelis kid? No…..? Well I’ll ramble about him anyway because I love him.
His name is Esme Greystone and he’s basically a miqo’te, physically. He’s got the ears and tail of one but no face markings. At his full height, he’s not as tall as his dad, but he is taller than most male miqos.
He has pink hair like his mom and blue eyes like his dad, though his hair is lighter than his mother’s.
Very optimistic like both his parents, but more mellow and relaxed. He can get quite emotional in some cases, but not at the drop of a hat like his mother. He’s just very friendly, calm, and loves to make his friends and family happy.
He’s very easily pleased.
As a young kid, he got sick really easily which lead him to stay home a lot. As a result, playing outside was a rarity for him.
He prefers to keep himself bundled up in warm clothes. He has lots of sweaters and turtlenecks and the like!
He gets cold very easily but takes quite a bit to get hot – he can be found wearing sweaters in weather that would make most people sweat profusely.
Esme doesn’t get sick quite as often as a young adult, but he’s still got a weaker immune system than average.
As a result of being cooped up at home a lot, he developed an avid interest in tinkering with all sorts of gadgets around the house.
He’s fascinated by the Skysteel Manufactory.
One birthday, he’s given a gadget toolkit by Cid that lets him make all sorts of little kid-friendly devices. He absolutely loves it.
From then on he’s had a fascination with gadgets, gizmos, and all sorts of devices. He could probably be magically inclined if he wanted to, but tech is so much more interesting!
He loves building small mechanical toys like trains, and as he gets older, he’s much more interested in trying to invent his own machinery.
He’s good at tinkering with and fixing mechanical weapons like guns. He greatly enjoys fixing things.
Gameplay wise, his job is probably a machinist, though he can switch to gunbreaker if needed. Actually his ideal tank job would be something that lets him utilize an exoskeleton to compensate for his lower strength. Or even just let him use a magitek robot. He’d love that.

FFXIV Write 2023 Day 6 - Ring
Ring: Noun. An enclosed area, often circular, as for a sports contest or exhibition. Characters: Ayaka Mizushima (WoL), Haurchefant Greystone, Tataru Taru, Alphinaud Leveilleur Expansion: Heavensward Rating: G Notes: Takes place towards the beginning of Heavensward! No real spoilers though.
Despite the stakes, Ayaka didn’t feel nervous walking into the arena.
The eyes of those that came to watch the spectacle—whether or not she and her companions would be branded heretics—didn’t make her flinch. As far as Ayaka was concerned, they were there to see House Fortemps’ reputation blemished. After all, what was to say the Church wouldn’t turn their attention to the household that vouched for their character? For the sake of her friends and Count Fortemps, Ayaka didn’t want to give these vultures what they wanted.
You don’t walk away from fighting Primals without being changed to some degree—in comparison to the wrathful power of those beings, these Ishgardians seemed like nothing more than petty gossipmongers.
“You can do it, my friend!” Haurchefant cheered, waving at her from his spot in the stands. Next to him, she saw Tataru jolt in surprise. Clearly she wasn’t expecting anyone to be some semblance of jovial at a trial-by-combat.
Beside her, Alphinaud gave her a curious glance. His eyes were darting between her and Haurchefant like he was presented with a difficult puzzle.
‘Later,’ Ayaka mouthed down to him, unsheathing her lance. He raised an eyebrow, but her assurance seemed to please him for now. Quickly, she gave Haurchefant a shy smile. He gave a brighter one back, uncaring of the exasperated look on his older brother’s face.
From the other side, their opponents—two members of the Heavens’ Ward—entered the arena as well. One of them sported a cocky look on his face, self-assured in him and his partner’s victory. From what Tataru told him, he was considered something of a bully by the people. Ayaka was going to enjoy wiping that look off his face.

Joana bas Strome, the Coeurlfist (MNK)
“If I were to judge someone, and I’m not one to do so, I would because of their motives. The side in which we fight is but a whim of the circumstances.”
Daughter of a family of Ala Mhigan high dignataries, Joana was born in Gyr Abania, but her parents shortly fled their homeland after her birth when the Garlean Empired occupied it. The Strome had participated in the rebellion against Mad King Theodoric, and well-aware of how the people treated those who accepted the Garlean authority, they decided to settle in the Ilsabardian provinces, in a town called Imenor. The family was welcomed in Garlean territory and their position and respect towards Garlemald certainly helped their situation. Beralt Strome and his wife Regina Wyke were soon granted Garlean citizenship and the according title to their status, and so was Joana. She had been born almost blind, and in the years to come magitek would prove quite important to help her overcome this handicap. Two years after the Strome arrived to Imenor was born Joana’s sister, Aelnora, and as Garlean citizens they were taught in Garlean schools and, in their teens, they received military basic training. Joana was especially good at martial arts, because despite the magitek visors she used, they were not perfect, and relying on her heightened senses greatly helped her in fighting with her own body. Besides, her parents had told her tales of the legendary Fist of Rhalgr, the Ala Mhigan monk order; Joana was proud of being a Garlean citizen, but she felt great curiosity for the culture of the land in which she was born.
When Joana was eighteen years old, the Battle of Carteneau happened in Eorzea, and the stories about what came to pass spread through the provinces like wildfire. Joana understood neither why the Empire was so keen in conquering Eorzea nor why the Eorzeans hated the Empire so bitterly. Her parents never picked a side out of prudency, and that left Joana with more questions in the air. She wanted to understand both sides of the conflict, and so she decided to travel to Eorzea as an adventurer and learn why they opposed the Garlean Empire, and when she finished her military service at twenty-three years old she left Imenor and journeyed to Ul’dah, where she enlisted in the Pugilists’ Guild. Of course, she hid her full name, Joana bas Strome, which would have marked her as a Garlean citizen, and simply went by Joana Strome, even though she wished she did not have to.
She quickly rose through the ranks of the guild, and eventually this led her to be recommended as one of two bodyguards to the eminent Professor Erik. The other was the Ala Mhigan monk Widargelt, and during the mission he felt Joana’s potential. He offered to train her in the way of the monk in their missions with Professor Erik, and Joana accepted, eager to train in the discipline she had heard so much about. Despite clashing with her mentor more than once, they came to understand one another, and Joana gained a lot of insight from an Ala Mhigan about the Garlean repression in Gyr Abania. When she was deemed a full-fledged monk, she traveled the land, more than once acting as a mediator in conflicts between the stranded XIVth Legion and the locals because of her knowledge of the Garlean customs and ways.
Then the Eorzean Alliance began preparations to war and liberate Ala Mhigo from the Garlean Empire. Joana would have not entered a conflict that would have set her against what she considered her homeland if the Scions of the Seventh Dawn had not been searching for adventurers gifted with the Echo to form a special unit under the Warrior of Light’s command. Ever since she was a child and dreamed of a starshower, Joana had the gift, and during her travels she found a Light Crystal of Lightning, and so she was a perfect candidate. However, she was the last to answer the call, hesitant to go to war against Garlemald, but she ended up reasoning that this unit might need her knowledge if at some point there could be an understanding between both sides. She traveled to Rhalgr’s Reach, where she would meet her comrades the following night. She incidentally spent that night with a Roegadyn woman that happened to be one of these comrades, Leona Wyznloef, and it would become nothing more than an anecdote of sorts, and amusingly enough brought them together as closest friends. As the Eorzean Alliance and the Ala Mhigan Resistance fought the XIIth Legion and the cruel viceroy, crown prince Zenos yae Galvus, Joana came to believe that in freeing Ala Mhigo and Garlemald both of him, she would be doing a great service to her homeland, now that she had seen what could become of the Empire with him in the throne. Later on, and now part of the Guardians of Light, after Ala Mhigo and Doma’s liberation, learning of the internal conflicts in politic affairs, Joana was convinced that peace would only be possible if the Empire was ridden of corruption, and as citizen, it was her duty to make it come to pass.
However, Garlemald’s problems would have to wait, for the Call to the First reflection of the Source had to be answered. The Guardians of Light, the Guardians of Darkness come from an averted future and the Order of Wayward Echoes joined forces to save the shard from the Light, and Joana and her comrades crossed the Rift aboard the Order’s interdimensional ship, The Ouroboros, for the Warrior of Light had been the only one summoned by the Crystal Exarch. Never in her wildest dreams Joana would have thought that her homeland would be present in a different world, much less in the form of First Emperor Solus zos Galvus, or rather the Ascian Paragon Emet-Selch. She felt quite conflicted between her mistrust towards his Ascian nature and the respect for the founding father of her country, but both feelings eventually became genuine curiosity as Emet-Selch told them the story of the Ancients and a star yet unsundered. Even when he turned against them upon the Warrior of Light’s failure to contain the Lightwardens’ Light, Joana had nothing but respect and admiration for the Paragon’s dedication to his people, and decided to approach the coming showdown as a chance to show the First Emperor that there was still hope, and that his work had not been in vain. At Emet-Selch’s final request, Joana bas Strome, proud citizen of Garlemald, swore to uphold his memory, his legacy: strive for mankind and civilization to achieve what he dreamed of, and tear down the barriers that tore people apart to bring them together in cooperation.
