The bass coming from the speakers on stage was deafening. Harvey could only take so much and considered leaving when he noticed Ermano exiting the crowd. He watched him for a moment, feeling a chill crawl down his spine. Harvey wasn't sure what to make of Ermano. He initially saw him as his parents' friend, but learned through the grapevine (funny enough) that he was long-time friends with the winery's previous owners. When they met, it was cordial and Harvey couldn't deny that he seemed to have it all together. He respected him, but something was unsettling about him. It felt as if Ermano could wake up one day and decide to swipe the winery right from under him.
Deciding to follow after him, Harvey watches Ermano talk to another as he attempts to ground himself in reality. Ermano was just a person— someone he respected and looked up to for advice every now and again. Nothing more. "Can I spare one off ya?" he chimes in, coming from Ermano's side.
br music fest summer event open
Being around so many people reminded him why identifying as a homebody wasn't such a bad thing. staying in his garage, working on little projects while listening to an audible or podcast was more appealing than greeting everyone who knew him. That was a downside of living in one place for so long - everyone who's everyone either knew you or knew of you. Walking a bit from the crowd, Ermano pulled out a green box of Newports, lighting a cigarette his eyes glanced to the restless waters. below the sound of the waves crashing and the band playing were sandy footsteps approaching. "Want one?" he asked, looking toward them.

* * #COMMUNITY CENTRE CONVO WITH @ijemmaokafor, @ermanodelgcdo, @reneebrxndxn, @colcreznik
-Ike's waiting for the rest of the Council with a table set up, most of the chairs on one side and a single one on the other; Cole's in that single chair, with Ike standing behind him, casually holding the crowbar- This right here is Cole Reznik. He's Sol's older brother, but as you might notice, Sol ain't here to put in a word for him. Not to mention, Cole didn't exactly approach the front gates.
Ijemma Okafor: -crossing her arms- Where did he approach?
Cole: A lovely little hole by what looked like a pond. -cole smiles up to jemma-
Ijemma Okafor: Like a fucking gopher? What hole??
Cole: No, I didn't El Chapo in here. There was a hole in the wall. Well, is in the wall. Still there.
Renee Brandon: -Renee sits up a bit straighter- There's a hole in the fence?
Cole: Yes ma'am
Ike: There's a hole in the fence. I'll get to that later.
Cole: Why not get to that now, legs? After all, it was 'cause of you that I found it. You and your iced mochas princess. -cole smiles up to ike with a shit-eating grin-
Renee Brandon: -Renee looks to Isaac with bewilderment- What is he talking about, Isaac?
Ermano: -looks to isaac with furrowed brows.- Yeah, Isaac.
Ike: -licks his teeth, looking distinctly displeased- Those suspected arsons that Silvy and me have been investigating. I found a hole in the wall that they were probably working on too -- I just didn't get around to boarding it up again.
Cole: -keeps the smile on his face but looks to the rest of the council-
Renee Brandon: -Renee stands up from her chair and walks behind it as she wipes her hand down her face- Are you kidding me?! We have children here and you don't think to patch up a hole in the wall as soon as you find it?!
Ermano: Isaac, you know better than that!
Ijemma Okafor: If I can advise...let's handle the matter at hand and save the infighting for later, when our company has gone?
Ike: Yeah, I know. I fucked up there, I'm sorry. But we can deal with me after this-- -points at Jemma in agreement-
Ermano: -quiets at Jemma's advice, but keeps his glare at Isaac-
Ijemma Okafor: Sol's a pretty easygoing guy. Why is he not here to vouch for his brother?
Renee Brandon: -Renee is visually unhappy and decides to pace instead of sitting-
Cole: We don't exactly have great history. Sibling rivalry and all.
Ermano: -walks to Renee, putting a gentle hand on her back at an attempt to calm her-
Ike: Rivalry over what? To what extent?
Ijemma Okafor: Yeah, are we talking sports rivalry kind of thing? Or estrangement kind of thing?
Renee Brandon: -Renee is chewing on her fingernails when Ermano puts a hand on her shoulder. She stops pacing but right now, she can only think about how there is a hole in the wall and her kids are in danger.-
Cole: Call it me being mommy and daddy's favorite and him -he sucks on his teeth- not so much.
Ijemma Okafor: Okay look, the wise-ass thing might work for you in other situations, but this council here, we take our job pretty seriously. We don't let just anybody in here, and you've already broken that rule. So if you want to walk right back out, by all means, the sideways answers will do. But if you're here and looking to stay for a minute, we're gonna need you to shoot straight.
Ike: -grunts to back Jemma up- If you're the golden boy, then why the hell were you resorting to crawling through a hole instead of walking up to the front gate?
Cole: Sweetheart I've talked this way my entire life. That's fifty-some years of this shit. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. -points up to Ike- As for you, big dog, after following you and that lovely senorita to the hole, I didn't bother looking for another way in. Hell, all I knew at the time was that way. So my apologies for not investigating a little further. But, if we're really thinking about it, I've already helped this little community by giving an example at how weak the defenses are. If anything, I should get a goddamn metal.
Ijemma Okafor: -snorting- Jesus fucking christ, he really doesn't learn. We're uh, fresh out of medals. So you were just curious? Don't really care about being here or not being here? Have a habit of inspecting mysterious holes in walls?
Renee Brandon: -The pit seems to grow in her stomach and she can barely even focus on this asshole as she's already wondering just how many more spots there are in the wall. She looks to Ermano and keeps her voice low so Cole doesn't hear- What if there are other spots?
Ermano: We’re going to have to inspect the entire perimeter. -he whispers back, not liking the idea of there being more weak spots-
Ike: -ike's gaze flits over to renee and ermano, but he doesn't move from his place looming behind cole-
Cole: -points to jemma- That is where you’re wrong, sweetheart. I do care. All I want is a safe place to sleep where I don’t have to look over my shoulder 24/7, and food to eat. I ain’t gonna bother no one. In return, I got skills that can benefit your community. Like I pointed out, I found a weak spot; I’m happy to find more so y’all can patch them up.
Ike: -tightly- What skills, then.
Cole: -he smirks- I was a Marine. One hell of a sharpshooter. I can hunt almost anything almost a mile away, and haul the damn thing myself. Plus, I know my way around a knife. I can hunt, skin and butcher food for everyone. The cookin’ part, I’m shit at though.
Ike: Hunters, we have. We even have our own military men.
Ijemma Okafor: You know how to kill animals...any knowledge of how to take care of them?
Cole: What like livestock? It’s been a few years but yeah. Lived close to a farm at one point and helped on a ranch. -deliberately ignored ike-
Renee Brandon: -Renee shakes her head and keeps her voice in a whisper as she eyes Cole.- I don't like this, Ermano. Why are we even entertaining the idea of keeping him around?
Ike: -a little sharply- Renee, you wanna share with the class?
Ermano: Watch your tone, Isaac.
Renee Brandon: Like how you shared that there was a hole in the wall?
Ike: We're a Council. We're not two groups. That's all I'm saying.
Renee Brandon: -she shifts her weight so she can turn and glare at him- Alright, fine. I think that asking him about anything resembling keeping him around is a waste of time. He can't be trusted!
Ijemma Okafor: We don't know that. We suspect it. But he deserves to make a case, at least.
Ermano: Neither could Isaac, and look where he’s at. -he pointed out-
Ike: -tips his head in acquiescence of ermano's point-
Cole: -takes mental note to that comment-
Ijemma Okafor: As far as your skills go Mr Reznik, the keeping and caring of animals is of more value than the hunting of them, right now. But like Renee said, we have little reason to trust you. Why should we trust you?
Cole: Ya know, I never got your name ma’am. And I’m sure you’re sick of me calling you sweetheart. Can I get your name, please?
Ijemma Okafor: Jemma.
Ike: And that's Renee and that's Ermano, but those I'm sure you gleaned from listening to us.
Ijemma Okafor: I take it he knows you're Ike already?
Ike: The one and only.
Renee Brandon: Are you going to answer the question?
Cole: Thank you, Jemma. Where I’m from trust isn’t given, it’s earned. I understand we haven’t exactly gotten on the right foot for that. Nothing I say is going to change her mind. -points to renee- And quite honestly, nothing I say will probably change any mind in here. But don’t I deserve the same chance this one got -nods to isaac- to prove I’m trust worthy?
Ermano: -looks to isaac and renee, then to jemma-
Ijemma Okafor: And where is it you're from?
Cole: Same place Sol’s from: Pittsburgh. I was in New York City when the outbreak happened.
Renee Brandon: So you show up, crawl through a hole in the wall and then what? Just hide out and hope no one notices that there's suddenly a new face in town?
Cole: No, ma’am. I was gonna find whoever was in charge. I just happened to stumble on my long lost little brother. Not exactly the reunion I was hoping for but -shrugs- what are you gonna do?
Renee Brandon: Then why not come through the front gate?
Ike: He didn't make it that far. He chose to exploit the nearest entry.
Cole: As I stated before, I didn’t know there was a front gate. I followed legs over here to the wa— what he said
Renee Brandon: -glares at Isaac for giving him an answer-
Ike: It's ... -takes a breath, sounding reluctant- ...not the worst trait to have. Being opportunistic. He could've snuck around the perimeter easy, instead of walking through the junkyard.
Ermano: Isaac isn’t wrong. That area is open, anyone can hide there just fine.
Ijemma Okafor: That brings us to the next order of business though. Obviously, we're living in shit times. While you're welcome to give us your whole life story, what we're interested in, in terms of the vetting process, is what these shit times have forced you to do. We've got kids here. People with some serious PTSD. How can you assure us that you're not a danger to our people?
Cole: I’ve never liked kids so I’ll steer clear of them. As for PTSD, I have some of my own. I was honorable discharged from the Marines with a purple heart. -cole raised his pant leg, showing the healed burnt scars- Saved my platoon from an M8. When it comes to people I care about, I’ll jump in front of a bullet. Plus, if I’m voted to stay, it’s the first safe place I’ll ever be part of. I won’t let anyone from the outside put it in jeopardy.
Ike: It's a long length of hard road from NYC, pardner. I should know. Not easy to make that trek without some blood on your hands.
Cole: You want me to admit I’ve killed people? Sure, I’ve killed people. Both before and after. Each time was to keep either me or others safe. But how many have you killed. And you. -points to ermano-
Renee Brandon: No, we want you to tell us what you've done. And not just what you think we want to hear. I want the God honest's truth from you - what have you done between New York and here?
Cole: Survived. -stares at Renee, not letting up.-
Ike: -shoves the back of cole's chair- Answer her.
Cole: -he rolled his eyes- For the first year I traveled on my own. It was easy. Just stay out of everyone’s way and every man for themselves. Then I came across a family who took me in. I traveled with them for a bit but they wanted to go North and I wanted to go South. So we parted. I kept moving. Any time I came across a group, we’d part. The last group I was in got attacked by a hoard. I got out and now I’m here. Need me to mark down every time I took a shit too?
Ike: -murmuring- If she asks you to.
Cole: Oh fuck off -he mumbled back-
Renee Brandon: -glares at him- What kinds of groups?
Cole: None like the Savages. There were a few groups who started to get a bit … hostile, but I left anytime they showed those signs. There was one group who burnt down a community much like this one in upstate Penn. I was there for that. After that night I left. I might seem like I’m unhinged, but I’m not homicidal.
Ike: -comes around to the side of the table, putting the crowbar down on it- I'm ready for a decision.
Ermano: I’m ready as well.
Renee Brandon: -Renee had already pretty much made up her mind a while ago but she keeps her eyes on Cole as she backs up from the table and nods.-
Ijemma Okafor: Hey, I'm just here to advise, y'all do your thing.
Ike: I vote he stays.
Ermano: He stays
Renee Brandon: -Renee looks between the two of them.- Are you serious?
Ike: So that's a no from you? Great. He can cool his heels in a cell and we'll get Salem's vote tomorrow. -goes to the door and opens it, whistling; somebody comes over and Ike gestures to Cole- Get up. This is your escort to your accommodations. Don't cause trouble.
Cole: -stands and gets in the cell- I’ve been in worse. You gonna keep me company, big boy? -smirks at isaac as he passes-
Ermano: I’m sorry Renee. But if you think about it, if he really came in to cause problems, he would’ve dealt with Sol. Brother or not. But he’s here instead.
Ike: We don't need to convince her. Renee's got reasons -- good reasons -- for being wary.
Renee Brandon: -she watches Cole the entire way out of the door before looking between Isaac and Ermano- We had to drag the answers out of him. That doesn't give either of you big red flag? And he sneaks in because he follows Isaac? Why not approach him before coming in?
Ike: He clearly think's he's a laugh and a half -- he wants to fuck with us a little bit. He's testing the waters, too, as much as we are. It's just he's got more to lose, but my guess is he's at a point where he figures anything could mean losing.
Ermano: Not everyone is an open book, either. Four years on the road, jumping from group to group? Makes people close up.
Ijemma Okafor: The thing with Sol is weird. I know not all siblings are like the Brookes, but Sol's a pretty reasonable guy. It doesn't really matter, but we might wanna try to get that story.
Ike: We will. He's got some time in the cell, yet.
Ermano: Good luck opening that wound.
Renee Brandon: I don't trust him. And I sure as hell don't feel comfortable letting him walk free-range around Redwood. I also don't feel great about there being a hole in the wall that anyone can get through.
Ike: I'll take care of it. There shouldn't be any others but I'll ... get on that.
Ermano: If you don’t mind, Ike. I’ll get on it. I’ll have security do perimeter as soon as possible.
Ike: -clenches his jaw for a minute, but nods- Sure.
Renee Brandon: I want to know how no one has noticed this before now? Who knows how long it's been there.
Ermano: From where he described it was, that area doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic.
Obviously that’ll change. I’ll have inside security make frequent rounds up there
Renee Brandon: -Renee crosses her arms in front of her, hugging herself tightly as she heaves out a breath- Can we at least look into how it was made? See if we can figure out if it' was opened from the inside or outside?
Ermano: I'll personally do a thorough investigation.
Ike: Is that really -- I said it was part of the arson shit! Obviously from the outside.
Ermano: It’s to save her peace of mind, Ike.
Renee Brandon: -looks to Isaac incredulously. She's about to unload a piece of her mind on him when Ermano manages to explain it a lot more eloquently than she was about to-
Ike: -a little weakly- I just don't see the point of turning it into some kind of witch hunt. Is all.
Ermano: No one said anything about a witch hunt. We just want to make sure it can’t happen to any other part of the our defenses.
Ijemma Okafor: -side eyes Ike and his strange tone of voice but saves her questions for another time-
Renee Brandon: And making sure there's not something or someone that's trying to threaten everyone that's here in town.
Ermano: -points at renee, agreeing to her statement- We got young kids here, Ike. I’m just making sure we stay protected. And I hate to admit it, but Cole’s right. He did show us that we’re not as protected as we thought.
Ike: Yeah, I know, I know. You're right. It's good you're on it. -scrubs his hand against his throat, grimacing- We done here?
Ermano: -looks to renee, waiting for her answer-
Renee Brandon: -she takes a deep breath and looks between the two of them. She's still clearly pissed that Isaac didn't mention the hole in the wall and upset that there was a current breach to the town, but discussing it anymore was a waste of time. She looks at Ermano and nods before walking quickly out of the community center-
Ermano: -waits for renee to be completely gone before returning his attention to isaac- Are you hiding something?
Ike: -looks pained- Look, man -- give it a rest, okay? You got stuff to do, getting security on it.
Ermano: I’m going to take that as a yes. -lifts a finger to point at him- If you had anything to do with that hole, you better tell me now.
Ike: I didn't block it up fast enough.
Ermano: -narrows his eyes but decides to leave it alone- Fine. Now we learn from our mistakes and do better, yes? -doesn’t wait for an answer and leaves to get security together-
Ike: -nudges Jemma- Walk you home? -obviously a nonsensical thing to say, considering she lives basically a few steps away-
Ijemma Okafor: -nearly smiling- Please?

location: clinic
Things were slowly starting to settle down at the clinic. Slowly, being the key word. Most everyone had come through that needed the check up and treatments and for the most part, the injuries were superficial. Not to belittle what they went through because the trauma from whatever happened was obvious on every person's face that walked through those doors but the physical injuries would heal without a problem. Mentally, that was a whole other story.
Renee was in the middle of taking inventory of what she had left after everything when the door opened. She spun in her seat, ready to ask what happened when she spotted Ermano. That's right - he was swinging by today for a check up. "Oh good, it's you. I was a little worried you might be a new injury," she admitted as she put her pencil down. "How are we feeling today?"

The Cruel Choice
Silence. Heat. Bubbles rise as more souls wail within the deeps. The Crew watch Guy and the Master anxiously, frozen in their steps as they prepare for another possible explosion of fury after the Master accuses Guy of murdering his brother out of malice. They brace themselves for a wave of heat high enough to scald them as Fire and Brimstone has for their missing medic.
….But it doesn’t come. Instead, the Master….
……. Laughs.
“Ohhh, my little Guy. Quarry of the Rhône.”
Guy shudders. He hates being called that.
“I never had any intention to keep Phoebus back from you. Not at this time. I do not permanently take away my thralls before their time. Not until their time on Earth is over. Not until I get my Eye back.”
“Y-you mean… you’re going to give Phoebus back?”
“Yes, Guy.”
“Oh, thank you, Master, thank you!! Thank you!! I praise you for eternity, Master!”
“But know this, Guy-”
“!!...”
“I will not tolerate the trouble you bring upon the Crew any further. You are a Crew. You will listen to your Captain, and you will work together as a unit. You will not destroy each other any more, nor will you send each other to me for petty reasons ever again. Is that clear?”
“C=Crystal clear, M-Master!”
“Good.” The waves pump and blow once again as blue lights concentrate into swaths and streaks. A loud thud can be heard as cold and hot water clash together, the cold diving as the hot rise. Bubbles form and squeeze together as detritus and sand bellow like a storm. As what appear to be ribbons and arms rise from beneath the hull...
A thin man with auburn red hair appears on the forecastle of the ship.
“Phoebus!!”
“Oh, Phoebus!! You’re back!!”
“Phoebus! Mi ermano!!” Guy crawls towards his brother immediately, wrapping his good arm around him before holding him close. He raises Phi’s head up and lays it upon his chest, kissing him on the forehead and refusing to let go. “I’m sorry for everything! I’m sorry for refusing you! I’m sorry for ignoring your efforts! I’m sorry I didn’t lis-
“....Phi??”
Phoebus is not known for being heavy or difficult to carry, but this is different. This isn’t the body of a newly regenerated person, or someone with life returned to them. Phoebus is dead weight. More than dead weight. There is barely any breath, and his skin is cold and clammy. He’s not even blinking. Nor is he responding to any of Guy’s movements or acts of affection.
“Ph-...Phoebus??
“Phoebus?! Phoebus!! What’s wrong with you??!!”

"What are you talking about, I am perfectly healthy," Lucien replied, all but collapsing in the chair the man had pulled out for him. One glance in the mirror as he was washing his face that morning had been enough to make him pity himself- his face still hadn't regained all its color, his eyes seemed sunken, the dark circles under them barely concealed behind his glasses, and even though he didn't own any scales, he was pretty sure he had lost enough weight for it to be noticeable.
"Really though, I'm just glad to finally be able to leave the house. It's all been better since the fever broke." He gave another short cough, followed by a few long breaths to calm down. One step at a time, he reminded himself. "I don't even remember if I thanked you for dropping by, I think I was almost hallucinating at that point." Ermano had appeared in his doorstep as soon as he found out that his illness had taken a turn for the worse, but he had mostly spoken to Mayra, Luc shivering under his blanket, drifting in and out of sleep. "So, thank you. It really means a lot."
Ermano had been making his rounds to those at the Center - checking in to see that everyone had what they needed. The General in him wished he could provide more than what they had but with the colder weather coming in quicker than they expected, rations were to be handled carefully.
He took a quick trip to the meeting room to grab the jacket he'd left before returning to the common area. Many had cleared out but few lingered, one of them being Lucien who hobbled to the table closest to Ermano, coughing. "Of course, rest as much as you need," he answered, pulling the seat out for him. "I see you're not fully there yet but how are you feeling besides that?"

Her laughter was cut short at Ermano's question, although she didn't immediately go into full defense like she would have, had it been someone else asking. "It was bad," were all the words she could find, pursing her lips together and focusing on the sting it sent across all her bruised face muscles to keep her mind from wandering back, to keep her eyes from filling with tears. "But we all came back alive. That has to count for something." What exactly, she didn't know, but that was all the optimism she had to spare for the day.
"I'm glad you're alive, too," she said earnestly. "I would be very mad at you if you'd died and left me behind to deal with all of this without you."
Sitting in the chair only reminded him how tender his ribs still were. Slightly straightening his back, Ermano made sure to keep an unsuspecting face, watching Hazel as she spoke. "I'd bet a week's worth of dinner it's not," he commented with a smirk. Ermano admired that about Hazel - really about anyone. Sometimes he wished he didn't feel like he had to jump on the sword for others; throwing himself on a grenade like a sick Steve Rogers. His Captain did always warn him how it would land him in 'a shit pile of fucking problems' one day but he never changed.
Suddenly his demeanor hardened. "How bad was it?"

* * #COMMUNITY CENTRE CONVO WITH @ermanodelgcdo, @salemcampbell, @ijemmaokafor, @davxdalexander
ermano. -let's out a sigh, arms folded. news of what happened weighed deep in his soul.- I know we're all trying to wrap our heads around the news. I'm sorry we have to deal with this; I figured the quicker we can put things together, the quicker we can all return to mourning. Losing Tristan and Gin -clears his throat- puts a massive hole in the community; may their souls rest in peace. It also leaves two roles needing to be filled which is why I called everyone here. I believe it's only necessary to move Jemma to Gin's position with how much time she's spent as an apprentice. As for the Council position, I personally vote David as a candidate.
David Alexander -while stoically remaining silent about all of this, David is wrapping his head around everything that happened. So much so that he hasn't really grasped why he was asked here. Losing two friends was dredging up feelings he was not all that keen on reliving. He silently listens to Ermano and when he mentions David he sits up a bit straighter as everything clicks- Wait, what?
ike -has been standing against a bookcase, rocking on his heels and staring down at the ground mostly, but his head jerks up at Ermano's declaration- Yeah, what?
Salem Campbell -sits on his seat, looking like he hasn't slept in at least two days, and mutters- Jesus... -rubs his eyes for a moment before answering- I agree with you on Jemma. She's more than capable of taking Ginny's position. -eyes wander over to David- And David's shown himself as a capable head hunter too. So, that's a yes from me there, too.
ermano. -nods to Salem- I can vouch he's more than capable. We've served together once upon a time overseas. He has a great head on his shoulders and I know he has the community's best interest at heart.
ike Okay, so -- another military man, and one who just happens to be one of your cronies from back in the day, ooh-rah?
David Alexander Ooh-ra is Marines
ike Do I look like I fucking care if you were Marines or Army or Sergeant Pepper?
ermano. Isaac, please.
Salem Campbell Ike- -takes a deep breath- Do you have a different suggestion? Someone you think fits better?
ermano. -stares at isaac-
ike -rearranges himself, saying icily- Not off the top of my head, no. I've been in goddamn mourning like the rest of you. But you don't think people are gonna see this and have concerns?
Salem Campbell Genuinely Ike, I don't think they will. But people having concerns isn't enough reason to not get the best person for the job. The worst thing that's going to happen is that people are worried and that we'll prove them wrong as a council.
Ijemma Okafor -despondent- This is the triage phase. Let David do it. If he fucks it up, we’ll fix it then.
ermano. I'm with Jemma. Trial run. If David isn't up to par, we'll branch out. But as of right now, I think getting this done as soon as possible is best so we can focus on other things.
Salem Campbell Agreed. I think that would be the best, too.
David Alexander -sarcasm- I appreciate the vote in confidence from y'all. -Looks to Ike- Losing friends is hard and I ain't trying to replace anyone. Hell, I didn't even know why I was invited here. But y'all are a man down and need help, so if I can help, I will.
ike -matching his sarcasm but louder- Oh, well ain't that just great! Pitch in and we can all raise the barn together because we're a man down! Maybe we can all field strip our rifles together later. Sorry, Jem, you're not invited to that one, boys only.
Ijemma Okafor -glaring at her best friend like she can’t stand him- Fuck you right now, Ike. I get that you don’t know which direction to be pissed, but this ain’t it.
ike -glares back at her, mouth pressed shut tight and jaw working, but backs down-
ermano. -shocked at isaac's silence-
David Alexander -mutters softly so only Ermano can hear him - So there is an off switch
Salem Campbell -let's out a soft breath- Alright. I think we got it then. Jemma will take up Ginny's position as council advisor. David will be a council member for the time being, unless there are issues. Can we agree on that? -especially looks at Ike with a gentle but imploring gaze-
ermano. -whispers to david- I might radio her whenever I need him to shut up now. I'm good with it
ike -blinks at Salem, then rubs a hand over his face, pushing away from the bookcase and edging towards the door- Triage. Trial run. Fine.
David Alexander -pointedly looking at Ermano- What the Hell did you just volunteer me for?
ermano. -stands and faces David- Welcome to the Council.
=== /// much later that night
Salem Campbell -stands in the kitchen, currently deciding what to brew himself to make it through the night; notices Ike coming in- Hey there. Just back from outside?
Ike -grunts in response, going to one of the cupboards; he opens it and just stands there, looking at everything in it before taking down a jar of peanut butter and holding it-
Salem Campbell -looks at him for a moment- Alright. -considers the peanut butter too, before opening a cupboard- Want some hot cocoa? We even got tiny marshmallows.
ike Hohhhwhuh? -shakes himself out of his stupor, like he's just noticed the jar in his hand- Do we really? I'm... -swallows painfully, laying his fingers against his jaw- I swallowed a bunch of blood and sand. Kind of a shitshow happening in my throat right now. -a bit more plaintively- I'm hungry.
Salem Campbell Sound like one hell of a rough raid. -begins to pull out the supplies, warming milk on the stove as well as pulling out two mugs- No leftovers from this evening, unfortunately, but if you want I can cook something up. Been hungry myself.
ike -wags the jar at him- About all I can manage. -his jaw's a bit swollen, too, from where Cass clocked him, but he doesn't mention it- But don't let me stop you. -rustles in a drawer for a spoon, then rudely starts eating straight out of the jar- Didn't you have dinner?
Salem Campbell -raises an eyebrow then lets out a soft chuckle- Alright. If you can manage it later, I'll put the leftovers in the fridge. -finishes up making the hot cocoa (not forgetting marshmallows) before pushing the mug towards Ike- Nope. Not much time for it, with everything going on. -shrugs- You didn't have it either. Did the walker that punched you in the jaw keep you that busy?
ike -collects his mug but doesn't sit down, retreating back to standing up against the counter again like a wary fox- Everything going on. Yeah. -sucks on the spoon for a bit, gaze flicking up to Salem at the question- I was gonna say Silvy. For the Council.
Salem Campbell I didn't poison it, don't worry. -casts a pitying glance at the communal jar of peanut butter before turning his gaze back to Ike- Silvy, huh. -thinks about it for a moment- I can see why. You can still bring it up with the council, discuss it. I know... -sighs- I know we're sometimes not fair to you. But what you say usually has a point. So if you wanna bring up Silvy as a potential member, you got my support.
ike Yeah, well. -pokes around in the jar- Maybe every good admin group needs a dickhead thorn in its side. For a while. -eyes Salem at the promise of support- Why would YOU want her in the council? I don't need anyone agreeing with me just because they think I resemble a dog they kicked one time.
Salem Campbell Hey. I would never kick a dog. -acts serious for a second before taking a sip from his mug- I support you in bringing her up as a candidate. She's capable and keeps a cool head in high stress situations. And it's important to have different perspectives on the council, so someone from security would be good. -shrugs slightly- I wanna consider all your perspectives, even if they come from a dickhead thorn.
ike -chews this over for a while, and then says, like it's a challenge- Or I was thinking maybe Renee. Since she's the town doctor and not somebody military. Not the same approach from two people on the Council that way.
Salem Campbell Renee? -considers it for a moment- Can't say I know her too well. But she doesn't seem like the leader type. And honestly, with the stress the medics already have, we can't really afford to put 'em elsewhere. You can still bring her up, though, I'm not gonna stop you.
ike -nods, satisfied by this- Fine. -samples the hot chocolate, then socks down half of it- God, that feels good. -gets a spoonful of peanut butter and stirs it into the last third of his drink- You can cook for me anytime, Salem. Bet you'd look cute in an apron.
Salem Campbell -considers saying something about the peanut butter, but then thinks that this is probably better than eating it straight from the jar; smiles when Ike mentions that the cocoa feels good- I do actually look cute in an apron, thank you very much. -shakes his head, chuckling- Though that's probably not something you'd wanna see. I can make you some mean chili though, if you ever want it. Old family recipe.
ike -slurps down the peanut chocolate slurry, sticking his finger in the mug after to scrape out a blob of unmelted peanut butter to suck off- Easy there, Salem. I'm not the kinda guy who needs dinner before a date. You don't wanna come off desperate. -chortles to himself, abandoning the mug and the open jar with the spoon still stuck in it, waving over his shoulder as he trudges towards the door- I'll remember what you promised, buckaroo. Just you keep that in mind.
Salem Campbell -rolls his eyes slightly, still amused- Yeah, next time I'll just skip the chili and go straight to first base. Or is that too slow for you? -grabs the mug from the counter to wash it (and considers what to do with the poor peanut butter jar- Don't threaten me with a good time, Isaac. I wouldn't have offered it if I didn't want to cook something for you.
ike -pauses momentarily at the door to slant a look over his shoulder at Salem, already cleaning up, but ultimately doesn't say anything before he leaves-

"Ermano, you've known me for years. You know I can vent and complain to anyone," she replied, but he wasn't wrong. It was nice to have a friendly face across from her once again, someone she knew she could trust and she didn't have to constantly have her guard on around, like she did with a lot of townspeople. Still, her face dropped at his question, as much as it could drop in her current condition. "It obviously wasn't my choice. If anything, I was surprised as well," she commented with a painful shrug. "Something about the greater good or some bullshit. Maybe your martyr complex has finally rubbed off on me."
He was glad to know Hazel's sense of humor was still intact. A humor which - some moments - made his day. Walking deeper into the room, he allowed the door to close just enough to give them privacy. "I couldn't leave you to deal with everything without me. Who else would you vent and complain to about everyone?" A smirk pulled at the corner of his lips. Pulling a chair to the bed, Ermano sat beside Hazel. "I'm glad you made it back in one piece. To be honest, I was a little shocked when they told me you were one of the ones that had gone to the Ranch. Was that your choice?"

She was restless and exhausted at the same time, mustering all her patience to sit through all the tests the doctors were running to make sure nothing was too wrong with her, other than the obvious damage. Seeing how there were people in a worse state than her, it was taking a while, and Hazel had started to contemplate when she could begin being enough of a bother to make her discharge come sooner.
Still, she couldn't help but smile when she saw Ermano peek through the door, no matter how much it hurt to move any face muscle. "You should have seen yourself when we dragged you out of the gutter," she said, trying to sit up to take a better look at him- the last time she had seen him he was in a coma, nobody sure how things would turn out for him, and to say that she was glad that everything had turned out apparently fine was an understatement. "It's great to see you standing on your own two feet. You really had us scared for a second there."

Recovery was never Ermano's strong suit. It meant stepping back from duty and responsibility. It meant pausing and resting. All things Ermano preferred not to do. But when it came to literally almost dying, he figured he'd make an exception.
As he entered the clinic for his check-up with Renee, Ermano realized she was a bit busy with those who were injured from the recent attack. Peeking into a room, he noticed Hazel lying on the bed. With their history, Ermano stepped toward the door, giving it a small knock.
"You look like hell," he greeted playfully. "Mind if I come in?"
