batman: shadow of the bat #1–4
[ID: the covers for the above mentioned comics. In the first one, he's on the floor with his thighs spread. He's snarling angrily as he's being held down by several large, muscular bald orderlies. In the second photo, he's now in a small, dark room and has thick metal cuffs around his wrists. The restraints has chains which is attached to the wall behind him. He's once again squatting and has his thighs spread as his hands are pressed to the walls next to him. In the third cover, he's standing with his feet slightly spread. His shoulders are pushed back and head is tipped so he's looking at the ceiling as he grips the chains of his restraints. In the fourth one, he's shown in a low angle and is strenuously gritting his teeth. He has his arms lifted victoriously as he breaks the chains and cuffs of his restraints! END ID]

What will cause Damian to search for a new Hero identity?
Reverse Robin + Parallel AU PART 3
Part 1, Part 2
The relationship between Tim and Damian may be interconnected but the plot can be read as a standalone.
See, for Dick to become Nightwing, he had some nasty fight with Bruce and pursued his own identity.
But for Damian, his fights with Bruce doesn't lead to parting with such unbearable terms taking account as Bruce is his real dad.
So, I made Tim become that reason.
It started when Joker just made his debut into the criminal society a couple of weeks ago. Bruce brushed off Joker as a small time criminal and went to New York on a WE business trip. However, he did warned Batboy and Signal to not interact with Joker by no further means.( Yes Signal is already an established hero in this AU)
Batboy disobeyed that command. He had had a fight with Bruce when his father benched him from patrol due to his recklessness, and decided to prove to Batman that he can handle a criminal in his own way.
So, he set out on the night Bruce left, to capture Joker.
-
Tim, after figuring out who Batman and Batboy was, his hobby took a drastic turn.
"Dad," Tim said on the phone, "You know the apartment you guys bought but never lived, can I have that?"
Tim scratched the table and tapped the pen around, "No, no, not for partying. Just because it's in the city, better food and transportation."
Then his face lights up, "Thanks Dad! Yeah, you're the best!" And hung up the phone with a grin.
That night Tim move into his new apartment and got ready to set out to take "night" photography.
Tim took shots of some sketchy people, some bats and rats on the street. He got bored, Batboy hasn't show up yet and it was already past midnight. Tim yawned and just about to go back when he heard thick kevar blowing in the wind.
And Lo and Behold, it was Batboy. Tim paused and frowned, why is Batboy going to the container terminal?
So he followed.
When he got to the gate, the guards were already took down by Batboy, Tim started to feel uneased and was about to back out when he heard a bone chilling laughter.
The Joker
And another chilled run down his spine when he realised Damian ran that direction.
He took out his phone and contemplate whether to call the police or Batman. Just then he saw a shadow stepping out of a container and quickly hide.
A blond woman step out carrying an huge mallet and wearing a two tone bodysuit.
Harley Quinn, he realised. This is bad. Then another shadow step out, green hair and purple suit with a widen and creepy smile was Joker.
"Goodness, I didn't think we would catch Batboy so soon! He ran into our trap like a mouse to cheese!"
"I know honeybun, that's why you are a genius!"
Tim waited until they walk away and disappeared from the sight and ran to the container they came out.
He froze as soon as he saw Batboy hanging on a target ring his limps bound spread out. He look so out of it.
Tim hurriedly ran over and check if Damian was truly unconscious by giving some pat on the cheek. When it didn't work, Tim tried to untied his shackles but they were locked tight. Cussing at the situation, Tim took out his cell to call for help. Damian woke up to see a blurry figure that was not definitely Joker. The figure is so small that he suspiciously looked like the annoying next door brat.
"Tim.. what are you doing here?" then his head snap to the entrance and screamed, "Tim! Run!"
But Tim didn't even got to turn when a hand strangle his neck from behind and choked him.
"Oh! Harley dear, would you look at that? Another willing hostage to lure Batsy!"Joker gleed from behind.
Tim struggle hard but is seem hopeless when his foot doesn't touch the ground and his airway is blocked. Damian, himself, also struggle to break free of his bound but it's useless.
Tim swallowed back the bile that rise up his throat due to Joker's pungent breath and bit down on his assailant's arm. That make Joker threw him against the hard container wall.
Tim groaned and clutched his side painfully, he looked up in fear when a shadow fell on him.
Joker has just joined the criminal society for 2 weeks and has already got 20 victims. He took hostages but he never let them live till the end. Tim has already play out what would happen to him, but he has a hard time convincing himself not to show fear.
Joker squatted down with his creepy smile and tattered hand grasped Tim's chin and stared down at him in the eyes.
Blue fear-filled-dilated-pupils met crazy green ones.
Joker shouted with glee, "Harley! Look at these blues! It looks just like yours!"
"Really, Sugarbear?" Harley Quinn ran to when Joker held down Tim and looked. "Wow! you are right, Sugarbun!"
Damian shouted and screamed from behind them but no one paid attention to him.
Joker turned Tim's head side to side, "He also looks just like me when I was still a wee boy!" Joker laughed with a crazy idea, "Harley Darling, you always wanted a son that looks just like me and you, right?"
Tim and Damian froze at where Joker was going.
Harley celebrated with a high scream, "You mean we can keep him Sugarbun!?"
"No! Let him go!" But no one paid attention to Damian's petrified shouts.
"Take him home, Harley," Joker said as he knock out Tim and Harley Quinn carried the boy out.
Damian struggled hard that his wrists and ankles were bleeding and his voice hoarse. He glared with hatred when Joker approached. This time with a frown.
"You are too noise, save your energy for screaming when Batsy come." and inject something into Damian that knocked him out.
When Alfred woke up and found there is no Damian or Batboy's suit, he called Bruce and Signal right away.
Bruce tried to catch a flight to come back right away. Signal and Batgirl start scouting Gotham for any sighting of Batboy.
Damian was alert when he heard the container being opened, he left eye barely seeing a yellow blur and ringing echoing in his ears.
"...im.." he murmured out.
Signal mouth moved like he asking something. "Tim! The Joker got Tim!!" he yelled out with a coarse voice and blacked out.
Damian woke up to the white ceiling and Alfred. The old butler looked like he gained a few more wrinkle overnight. Damian caused him to worry, "I'm sorry..."
Alfred shook his head, "All it's matter is that you are fine."
Damian winced in pain as he try to sit up, "Tim, have they found him?" Damian became hopeless as he saw Alfred's expression.
"It's all my fault!" a tear drop from his face in anger and guilt. "Fuck!" Alfred didn't even try to correct him.
"All we can do is pray that the Joker show mercy." Alfred laid Damian back down, "Batman will find him, rest." and left Damian after drawing the privacy curtain.
The next time Damian woke up, he heard his father and Alfred talking.
"Have you found the boy?"
"No, The Joker is a new criminal with very few sighting."
Alfred sighed, "Damian is blaming himself."
"He should be." Damian stiffen and bit back a whimper.
"If he just listen to stay away from Joker, Tim wouldn't have-!"
"Master Bruce! That is enough!"
Both of the voice stopped. Then sound of heavy footsteps walked away.
"Where are you going, Bruce?"
"Finding Tim. Every second is a ticking time bomb."
-
Damian put on his suit after Bruce left.
Alfred stopped him, "Where do you think you are going?"
Damian grimed as he felt the heavy body armor tighten on his tender ribs. "Finding Tim. He's right, no victim of Joker ever live through the first five hour with him. I do not have time to rest."
Damian looked back at Alfred, the old man wasn't even going to stop him.
When Damian entered the search scene and comm, Batman didn't say anything so he continued searching.
On the second day, they found a clue that Tim was alive. But it didn't give them joy when they found out Tim was only alive due to the fact that Batman was invested in this game Joker has created.
On the Third day, Signal found Tim. The Joker laughed all the way back Arkham Asylum and it haunted Damian every time he heard Tim laughed the same way.
The night they found Tim, Damian was quiet. He got out of his suit. He should probably visit Tim but he was scared how Tim would react to him, after all, he was the reason Tim got to that capture in the hand of Joker.
Nonetheless, he went.
"Hello,Miss." Damian greeted the hospital receptionist. "Which room is Tim Drake hospitalized in?"
The nurse gave him a once over to assess him ,"Are you his family?"
"A friend," Damian answered with a dry tongue.
"I'm sorry, due to the situation, we only allow close relative to visit."
"Oh," Damian didn't even have the fight in him anymore. Maybe this was the universe's sign to not visit Tim.
"Damian?" He turned around to find Jack Drake, Tim's father.
"Mr.Drake, how is Tim?" Jack looked tired and troubled, Damian doesn't blame him, who want their child to go through something like that.
"Tim is ...well," he paused, "Why don't you go see him yourself?" He smiled at Damian tiredly, "He might like to see you."
Damian doubt it, but he didn't say.
When they went up, Janet Drake just came out from room. For once the cold and powerful woman look just human, hair disheveled and the eyes holding back her tears.
"Jack," she paused when she saw Damian was there. "Oh, Damian, did you come to visit Tim?"
Damian didn't dare speak so he nodded.
Janet tried to give a smile, "That's great! Maybe, Tim will cheer up when he sees you! You should get him to eat something. He hasn't eaten anything."
Damian only nodded when Janet opened the door to where Tim is.
Tim didn't even try to look who come in when Damian entered.
"Tim," Damian started and stopped when he saw the younger boy stiffen.
When the younger boy turned around, Damian eyes immediately draw to the left cheek that was cover in bandages and Tim's eyes became cold and dark. Damian flinched.
"Damian," a raspy voice called him out. Damian jerked up and try to meet Tim's eyes but Tim has already turned away.
"Leave." It was the only word Tim spoke then he burst into painful fits of laughters. Jack and Janet rushed in as well as the nurse. Damian saw them wrestling a fourteen year old down the bed to inject him with drugs while Tim have a full-blown episode.
Damian rushed out the hospital to throw up his breakfast.
This is all his fault. Tim hates him now.
After three days, Damian heard from Bruce that Tim was discharged from the hospital. Although Tim was just a wall away, Damian didn't have the gut to face him so he didn't go to see the young boy.
That night Damian couldn't sleep. He had an intense feeling in his gut, that something is going to happen.
A loud siren snapped him out of his thoughts. He looked through the window to see the police cars heading to the Drake manor. Damian immediately went down the cave to see his father already gearing up.
Damian also rushed to put on his suit, "What happened?"
"Tim is missing."
"Kidnapping? Joker is still in Arkham."
"No, he run away." Batman got into the batmobile, "Are you coming?"
"No, I'll take the bike. We'll need to spread out to cover more ground."
Batman just got into his car and drove off. Damian got on his the bike. The whole way he was praying that Tim would be safe.
Damian calmed himself down, Where would Tim go?
And his gut tells him the car graveyard. So, he drove breaking every traffic law and swivel around every car.
He drove in and saw Tim in front of a small fire dropping papers into the fire. He got off his bike and approached the boy to see that the paper in his hand were actually pictures.
When Tim hear the boy's footstep approaching, he paused his action. Damian became alarm when he saw blood on the ground.
"Tim!"
He saw Tim turn around with a severe degree of burn on his left cheek. The cheek where Joker carved a J into his skin.
"Damian." Tim said instead of calling him Batboy. Damian didn't care how Tim knew but he tore off his mask.
No one spoke for a couple of minutes.
"Damian, I'm going to leave." Tim said and continue to burn off the photos.
"Okay," Damian could only say. Then he noticed that the photos Tim burning was actually of Batman and Batboy.
"How.."
"Does it matter?"
The silent was pregnant.
"Damian," Tim started again.
"I hate Batboy and Batman."
"Okay,"
"So I'm leaving."
"Okay..."
Tim looked up to him with the last picture in his hand.
"I don't want to see you. It makes me angry." Tim said with voice void of emotions.
"I understand." It was the only thing appropriate to say in this situation.
Tim dropped the last picture into the burnt out fire, not caring anymore.
"Let me take you home. "
"Call someone else. The thought of you make me want to laugh. I find that disgusting"
"Okay, I'll call the police. Is that okay?"
"Yeah," Tim said, no longer looking at him.
The police came to escort Tim back.
The next day, the front page of the paper was 'THE DRAKE HEIR, AFTER DISFIGURED, MOVING AWAY FROM GOTHAM DUE TO JOKER.'
That night Cardinal was born.
-------------------------------------
How is it so far? I might need to make a name for this series. I want to write so many Aus of them! Do you guys like present tense or past tense in narrative writing? I prefer past tense, more at home with that.
I make Tim less forgiving because I don't think a fourteen year old cannot be that forgiving. Also he was with Joker for 3 whole days so he has only himself and his thoughts.
Do not argue that they are immune to Joker. Because in this Au Joker was just a criminal that started and not many people have been exposed to him yet. Tim's case was the first exposure for the heroes. So no antidote is made for the joker gas yet, okay?
Also, I made Signal already an established hero because , he's like a part robin but also not? and he join with affiliation to the robin last so it only make sense if he is already a hero before Damian. I had to age him up tho, cause I don't want a teenager Duke running around Gotham with trauma, lol.
I plan to explore Duke in this Au too. But I had not read any of his comics so I'll be writing him with what I see and hear.
Good work to me! I managed to write so much!
Edit :Stupid me forgot the important part of this chapter😅 introduction Damian's new hero mantle

Batfam AU
Okay so I have only come across one or two reverse!robin posts and don’t know how original these takes are. But whilst weeding i couldn’t help but think about the Batfam’s dynamics and how that would be altered, so I decided to dump a few hcs below (in order of appearance):
1. Duke Thomas: On paper, not much of his origin story really changes. Still has powers, is still Signal, still led something akin to the We Are Robin movement (except it wouldn’t be called that, because ‘Robin’ doesn’t exist yet), and still is part of The Outsiders. He is the first superhero/vigilante to really work with Batman on a regular basis, which of course is a struggle in of itself. He’s no sidekick by any means, but his help when needed becomes vital to Batman and helps the bat become more lenient to working with people.
2. Damian Al-Ghul Wayne: while Damian would have no older siblings constantly at the manor to be jealous of, I think his snobby attitude of instantaneously deserving the Batman mantle is something he still struggles with. He doesn’t really come up with a hero code-name for himself early on in his career (he thinks it’s beneath him); but goons and innocent civilians alike make comments about how he’s always lurking in the shadows and nickname him The Shadow. The nickname sticks, and many a joke can be made about Batman and his Shadow. (if anyone has a better hero name for Damian pls let me know)
3. Cassandra Cain (Wayne): her backstory and such remains the same, except she’s the one who created the mantle of Batgirl (which, of course, looks different from Barabra Gordon’s original batgirl). She’s the first of Bruce Wayne’s adopted children, and I personally don’t think their bond would differ any more than it would from canon. Because she’s introduced earlier in B’s life and can bring out a softer side of the dark knight, Batman’s relationship with the kids that follow are slightly shifted.
4. Timothy Drake: meets Batman because he kept trespassing on Wayne Manor property. Tim has been stalking Batman, figured out his identity, and wants to fill in the vacant spot left by a recently departed Damian [who either A) went rogue B) went off to partner with Jon or C) formed his version of the teen titans, dealer’s choice]. Batman, while comfortable enough with having Batgirl and Signal as assistance covering patrols or messy cases, is at first hesitant to have another constant “sidekick”, but eventually comes around to the idea. Tim would have his own cool name but I’m not that creative.
I didn’t want to dump Jason’s trauma on Tim now that he becomes the second son, but narratively I do think he would’ve ended up dying as well (if so, it’s because Joker Junior was fatal). Yes he ofc comes back, probably angry, but Tim is NOT Jason and will have different reactions/ ways to cope with that.
5. Stephanie Brown : Steph gets introduced mid-Tim’s sidekick run. I don’t think her lore would change much really, you’re doing great sweetie.
6. Jason Todd: Jason meets Batman the same way he meets him in canon, except this time Batman’s trying to cope with loosing Tim and his failed partnership with Stephanie (she’s killing it as Cass’ partner though), but decides to recruit and later adopt Jason anyways. Jason would take on Tim’s old mantle, but I think he would eventually carve out his own vigilante identity when he got older. He still becomes Red Hood after a very rough falling out with Bruce, but like in canon they’re slowly able to rebuild their relationship.
7. Dick Grayson: our boy wonder gets introduced in the same manor as in canon, he just does it later when Bruce has already gotten a bunch of kids. He still creates the outfit and mantle of Robin, and becomes Batman’s new main partner-in-crime fighting.
8. Barbara Gordon: Her overall dynamic with the other bats would change from canon (it would be her looking up to Cass and Steph rather than the other way around). I think she and Dick would have the same dynamic as in The Batman (2004).
I haven’t read every bat-related comic ever and would love to hear any thoughts/suggested changes you all have! Thanks for reading this monstrosity of a post!

Ok I know I talked about this on discord, but putting my thoughts here:
(also b/c I just was thinking about the entirety of WW1987 run and how it could change if she got more Superman/Batman treatment).
If Diana was actually treated the same as Superman and Batman, in the 90s/2ks we would see 4 Wonder Woman titles*. Already, I'm thinking of how much we lost out by not having more world building time in Jimenez's Themyscira (link), or Rucka's ambassador crew.
We'd have some Wonder Fam characters with supporting titles, like Artemis, Donna Troy, Cassie Sandsmark**. Like sometimes I feel like people don't care about these characters aside from as whichever team they're on, but like... also frustrating b/c DC does not give them a chance to shine. They're supporting characters in Wonder Woman titles and then part of a big cast in team titles.
Anyway I'm thinking of how much more worldbuilding we could've gotten if DC did treat Wonder Woman as actually another member of the "trinity" - Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost ends June 2001 and the last of Jimenez's run was published March 2003. So Paradise Lost ends with the dissolution of the monarchy and we see a lot of potentially interesting stuff being set up with Themyscira, but barely get time dedicated to it
Compare Y2K era superman: starts feb 2000 and our worlds at war ends Oct 2001 - (significance: Our Worlds at War is the time at which the B13 technology began being scaled back when it was revealed that surprised Braniac 13 could control it and use it as a super weapon to put earth at war). That's less time than we got on Jimenez's Themyscira, publication wise, but I feel I have a much better understanding of B13-affected metropolis, because it got developed across 4 separate titles. If we wanted to do a plotline where Superman and Lois went in the Phantom Zone to visit Krypton for 4 issues, it barely took away any development time from the rest of the world because those 4 issues were like. 1 month.
anyway just thinking on what we miss out on DC not actually treating Diana like a member of the trinity except for marketing purposes
*For Superman: Superman, Adventures of Superman, Superman: Man of Steel, and Action comics. For Batman: Batman, Detective Comics, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, and Batman: Shadow of the Bat.
**Superman characters that I know if w/ supporting titles at this time: Superboy, Supergirl, Steel. Batman characters: Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Birds of Prey if you want to count that, Azrael
like I do harbor a certain level of distaste for “the trinity” as a term/idea as I just think all kinds of people use it to distill Diana down to being “the girl”. However the grouping does wonders to display both dc’s sexism in terms of the way they treat the property vs the batman and superman ones. and also that same disregard in fandom spaces.

Peacock Au Part 1
Okay so Big Huge credit to @stealingyourbones for letting me do my own take on their amazing eldritch Danny idea!!!! This started out as me just doing a drawing but then I ended up with a whole DPxDC fic that I'll be posting the part two for at some point!!! Anyway, here's the vague designs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here's the part one of the fic under the cut!!! :D (Edit: Part 2 is Here!!)
There’s a Lazarus Pit forming underneath Gotham. Normally, this would not concern John Constantine at all, because it’s Gotham, therefore Bat territory therefore not his problem, and honestly he has his own things to worry about. Unfortunately for him, however, the infamous Dark Knight has somehow gotten it into his head that he can do something about it and, Hell, he’d said it would be a ‘big favour’, which meant the man really must be desperate; had to have been in the first place, he supposed, to have even bothered with John in the first place.
Still, he’d almost kind of forgotten what a huge mess any kind of favour for Batman could be, and thus, he now holds possession of a book that is probably going to get him killed.
Whether the actual book itself wants to kill him is up for debate, but Constantine has read the contents of this particular Book of Summonings and nothing in here seems remotely safe. He’s absolutely going to be hiding this away somewhere deep in the archives of the archives of the Justice League watchtower with an incredibly pointed ‘DO NOT TOUCH’ on it once he’s done with this, but for now, it’s the only thing he’s got in the way of sorting out this Pit problem.
There’s an entity that exists, this book claims, that keeps the balance between realms. ‘Closes doors’, apparently, and the doors the pages depict certainly look like a Lazarus Pit. This is brilliant news, obviously, but the book doesn’t describe the entity itself at all beyond that; barely any of the other entries are as vague as this, and that plus some of the frankly bizarre sigils he’s having to draw to summon the damn thing are giving him no comfort. The only remotely comforting thing about it is that the ritual doesn’t require any blood- which either means the entity is benign, or it wants something more valuable than blood.
…Okay, maybe not that comforting, actually.
But, before he can consider that maybe this wasn’t his best idea and backing out would be for the best, the sigils flare with light, and Constantine squints to keep track of the way they activate, desperate for any indication of what he’s managed to summon with that stupid book.
His feet feel feathery against the ground, like they’re barely tethered by gravity and just waiting to float away, and perhaps the seeming lack of atmosphere is fitting with how dust like stars lift from the summoning circle, bringing with them intercepting layers of purple-blue-pink-white, galaxies and nebulae being peeled off the floor. It comes with a sound- something whistling, almost. Seeming hollow, between a shriek and a bell ringing, or maybe more musical than that. It seems to change every moment he tries to focus on it, as if it’s something his ears can’t really hear but his brain is desperate to process, painful to try.
And then, the entity begins to form.
Unnoticeably at first, a white glow drifts forming in the centre. It congeals as Constantine’s gaze finally fixates on it, layers forming like jellyfish trails, or flowers, or peacock feathers with runic circles at the tips, fading smaller and smaller as they reach the centre, and a thing akin to a body unfolds into view at the front, a centrepiece. A child’s image of a shadow in opalescence, a strange curving feature where a neck might be, and searing-green spots of varying sizes scattered along the space where cheeks and eyes could’ve been, fading up and down across the lower-half of the ‘face’ and into the ‘hair’. He barely understands what he’s looking at, but maybe that’s the point.
The sound of a thunderstorm rings across the room, and the curve of the neck unfolds, and it’s an eye, and the tips of a thousand twisted, cosmic peacock feathers become eyes as well, if they weren’t always. They move, wavering, either lashing or flickering from visibility.
“And what is this?” The voice is a kaleidoscope, echoing off and from every corner of the room, and when they speak, infinite eyes become infinite mouths, too many teeth barely contained by the edges of what seem vaguely like frostbitten lips. To have something even remotely human suddenly etch itself onto the entity is somehow worse than the parts he can’t comprehend. “Who are you, to have summoned me, and seem so afraid?”
Constantine wishes, maybe for the first time, that it hadn’t been an obligation to do this alone; he’s never wanted Batman or one of the Light members with him more than now. It’s a difficult thing, almost impossible, to shake off the speechlessness. It’s a wonder that it’s possible at all, with how the room seems to have been twisted into a vacuum. “I was told you could- you could help with the pits?”
“The pits. There are many pits.”
God, this is creepy. “The Lazarus pits to, uh, to be specific. There’s a huge one cropping up under Gotham that’s not supposed to be there, and the local- I mean, the locals are getting antsy about it. …I heard you can take care of them.”
“I can smell its blood between the gaps of atmosphere, encircling. You, whose soul is bound in so many directions, who may be pulled apart like meat in time- can you sense it? Does it draw you?” John doesn’t know how this- this thing knows that, but he’s scared asking will invoke some kind of consequence, and more and more he’s wondering why the Hell he decided to do Batman this favour. He feels exposed.
“Uh… no, I don’t think so. But can you fix it?”
“Yes.”
“…Will you fix it?”
The chill is getting to him. Goosebumps are running across his arms like a livewire, and he’s never doing anyone a favour ever again. The entity makes an approximation of a hum, his ears shriek with whale song and stars, and after a pause, everything switching up and down on itself, the peacock eyes form into huge, reaching hands. For a second, Constantine’s whole body freezes with terror, because he’s petrified the thing’s going to grab him, but then the arms tumble phasing into the ground, and the green spots on their ‘face’ flare with a supernova glow and they make another piercing noise, chiming or trilling.
A long moment later, the hands slowly return to the entity’s back, and fade into the peacock feathers or jellyfish bells or whatever they were before, blinking at him. “It is gone.”
“Uh… cheers?”
“It will not return, but this place shall see its dead for some time. Try not to look.”
This is maybe the worst day of Constantine’s life. “Can I- uh, yeah, great advice. ‘Appreciate it. But, can I ask just, y’know, what you are? Or not.”
“That is up to you.” They say, and though the eyes that appear briefly between sentences bely or reveal no expression, it feels scrutinising. “What is it that closes doors? Is it alive?”
He hates riddles. He hates riddles and he hates cosmic horrors and he hates eldritch entities and he hates Batman for getting him to agree to this horrible favour. He wants to go back to the House of Mystery and pass out for long enough that this whole thing becomes a dream. “Fair enough! Forget I asked- cheers for sorting out that pit, though. Uh, don’t suppose you’ll just let me go on my way or anything now.”
“I know of your Bat.”
Oh dear. Constantine’s stomach sinks like a shipwreck into the Mariana Trench, but the entity moves on like they’d never even said it. “I will recede, and find you in time, perhaps both. You will know when I am coming, and I will find my recompense.”
And just like that, their whole form shimmers into clouds and pearls and smoke and mirrors, and they fade back into the runes that summoned them like tap water down the drain. The galaxies they’d formulated within the confines of the room fold back in on themselves and turn to whispers and then nothing, but the feeling persists on his skin long after weight has settled back onto his bones. He hadn’t known a thing like that existed until now. He doesn’t know what it can do, doesn’t know how all-encompassing it truly is.
And he owes it a favour.
Crap.

Prompt:Dad?
----------------
Part 1
-------------
It’s a cold night, smog fills the Gotham air. A small, black figure slinks in the darkness of alleyways.  Alarmingly bright blue eyes peer into a restaurant window from a distance.
The figure quietly draws closer to the building, planning to enter it. Behind the figure, a rooftop a way, similar shadows observe the figure.
-------
Inside the building a large man in a tan raincoat and hat sit at a table. The man sits, unmoving and tense, waiting as though for an attack. The figure in black, from before, glides in closer until they attack the man.
Their sword drawn from its holt swings at him, the man is saved by a bat shaped throwing star that hits the sword.
The man lunges away, the table and chair are thrown in the process. The man is on the floor and the assailant jumps back a bit when the three other figures reveal themselves.
The figure holds their sword up in a defensive manner.
One of the tall black covered figures speaks, his attire being themed around a bat.
“Put the weapon down and surrender now.”
The figure is cloaked in black but blue feline eyes stare at him with a deadly calm. No one moves, until the man on the floor tries to get off the ground. The figure shifts its attention to the man and steps closer to him. Their sword is closer. The other patrons of the restaurant have already fled, screaming.
The man turns quickly in fear. The moment his eyes met the cloaked figures, he paled. His hat fell from his head to reveal him.
His voice trembled as he spoke with a heavy french accent. His eyes wide in a hopeful manner.
“....c-cupcake?”
The figure draws back in terror as they drop their sword. The man scrambles to get up as the the figure continues to step farther away.  Some of the other figures try to step forward, but Batman tells them to wait.
“P-Papa? No...no, you’re dead. They told me you were dead! They killed! No...they...wanted me to kill you. I can’t kill you! You’re...you....no....they sent me to.... I was....I....”
The figure speaks in a panic. Their voice an alarming soft, female voice. They rip their hood off to reveal a masked girl with cat ears. The girl spirals, unable to breath or understand. The man, her father attempt to get closer.
“No! Stay back! I... You can’t be here! I...”
Her frightened eyes searches for an answer, she comes up with her own answer. She gives him a desperate smile.
“T-they won’t let you live, now that I know you are so...if I’m dead... then you can be free!”, all of her shakes as she speaks.
Her father frowns and starts to run.
“If I’m dead.... You can be happy!”, her eyes tear up.
“No I won’t!”, he screams.
She takes out a bomb that activates the moment the button is pressed. In one motion, her father almost reaches her as soon as it bomb starts to go off. A batarang hits it out of her hand and behind her, launching her forward.
He catches her before she hits the ground, but the explosion knocked her out. The man covers her as a fire starts. Red hood gets his attention and guides him to an exist.

Sunbird -- Jason Todd
Masterlist
Summary: Y/N and Jason are reunited after believing the other was dead.
Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, torture, angst
Pairing: Joker’s!Daughter!reader x Jason Todd
Word Count: 3,000+
A/N: I haven’t written in a while, and it’s my first time writing for Jason Todd and DC as a whole, so we’re just gonna see how this goes. Please let me know what you think! This has aspects from Batman: Under the Red Hood as well as the comics, but doesn’t follow any specific canon. Also, I know Marvel just released a new character named Sun Bird, but we’re ignoring that.
Tumblr media
The harsh rub of zip ties against her bloodied wrists, the impossible twist of her arms behind the wooden chair she was sitting in, the harshness of her breathing from screaming and broken ribs, and the split skin from her right cheekbone down to the bottom of her lip did nothing to distract Y/N from the true pain in front of her.
“Stop! Please, please, leave him alone; he hasn’t done anything!” Y/N cried, straining against the ties even harder, ignoring the pull of her dislocated shoulders and the raw rubbing of her wrists. There was another crunch as a crowbar came hurtling down against the boy at her feet, her pleas ignored. The crowbar hit his shoulder blade, blood spraying across the girl’s shoes from the freshly torn skin.
The Joker looked up, his eyes full of familiar mania while he gripped his weapon tightly. “Peaches,” he tsked, straightening up to look down at the beaten girl in the chair, “he’s done everything. He’s the reason I haven’t seen you in two years. He’s the reason ya mother’s locked away. He’s the reason my babygirl isn’t my babygirl anymore.” Joker’s words were dripping with venom, spit flying from his mouth and landing on the two lovers as his anger grew. “The bird and the bat have destroyed my family time and time again. I won’t allow it any longer!”
“Robin didn’t ruin anything, you did!” Y/N fired back just as fiercely, spitting back at the clown before her. “You’re the reason I ran away to Batman and Robin. You’re the reason I never looked back. You’re the reason I hate you,” she snarled, (e/c) eyes filled with rage.
Silence filled the room as the Joker reeled back, hurt and anger wiping his smile clean off. He drew his arm back, bloodied gloves gripping the crowbar tightly, and slammed down. Y/N wasn’t expecting the agony that exploded down her arm and up her face as the crowbar connected with the junction from her shoulder to her neck, nor the scream that hurled from her lungs. Blood splattered across her face, over her chest, down her arm, and onto the boy below, while her chair tipped to the floor due to the force. Robin, known intimately as Jason Todd, yelled out for her, his own blood flying from his mouth. She didn’t yell back for him, her throat too raw from the sudden pain and her body turning cold with shock. The Joker knelt, tilting his head to look Y/N in the eye.
Now, peaches, that’s no way to talk to your father.”
“Until the day I die, you will never be my father.”
Silence prevailed once more as father and daughter stared one another in the eye; Y/N panting heavily with blood across her face, and the Joker breathing deeply with blood across his hands. Finally, after it became obvious neither was going to back down, the father stood.
“Very well,” he spoke simply, turning his gaze away to look down at his handy-work on Batman’s sidekick. “Usually the bat shows up by now, but considering the lack of importance that two of you apparently hold, I’ve given up hope on our date night.” He began walking away from the battered teens, his hands clasping the crowbar behind his back. It thumped his palm eerily, echoing in the warehouse. “Since both of you refuse to ease your suffering, I’ll leave you be,” he paused, opening the warehouse door and allowing a gust of snowy air to rush in. “If you’re worried about the cold, don’t be. Should the bat not show up soon, it’ll warm up eventually.” There was no laughter, no smile, no looking back as the Joker left with the heavy doors slamming behind him. The wind vanished alongside the Clown Prince of Gotham, but the warehouse was still chilled to the core.
Jason didn’t - couldn’t - speak, his lungs filled with blood and struggling to even breathe. Instead, he tilted his head to look at Y/N, her (h/c) hair sticking to the bloody parts of her face. She was already looking down at him, guilt clear in her eyes.
“I’m sorry,” she began, ignoring the way Jason shook his head, “I don’t know how he found me. We were so careful, all of us, I made sure of it. I’ll get us out of here, I promise, we’ll figure something out.” Her promise held no guarantee, they both knew that, but she needed to give them hope.
Jason tried to talk, tried telling her that Batman would be here any second and that it wasn’t her fault; but he couldn’t without choking on his own blood. He grunted instead as he rolled onto his stomach, his body protesting in pain while he scrunched up to walk his legs through his arms, returning them to the front of his body instead of the back. He couldn’t get out of his handcuffs and he couldn’t get Y/N out of her zip ties, but he didn’t have time to wallow on that- he had to keep moving. Grabbing onto the side of Y/N’s chair, he used it as leverage to pull himself to his feet, his legs quivering with the strain. He gave the chair another tug, one he knew was gonna put him on his ass, and uprighted the chair so Y/N wasn’t fallen over. As predicted, he collapsed immediately and whimpered in quiet pain as soon as he hit the floor.
Y/N seethed, “Goddamnit, Robin, you’re gonna kill yourself! Just stay still, Batman will be here soon.”
Jason ignored her. It wasn’t his job to wait around for Batman or Nightwing or anyone else to save him; his job was to do the saving. He was Robin, Batman’s partner in justice- he could save himself and the girl he loved without dying. Bracing his forearms against the cement, Jason dragged himself forward, unable to stand again. Y/N continued protesting behind him, trying to break free of her bindings to stop him, but he kept going. He dragged his body across the floor, blood trailing in his wake as he reached the door. Jason had no idea how heavy the door was going to be, but as he reached up and grabbed ahold of the handle, he realized it didn’t matter- the handle didn’t budge. Falling against the door in exhaustion, Jason looked around for another means of escape. As his eyes wandered, a soft beeping caught his attention, forcing him to notice the black multi-wired box with a timer attached near the door.

“Robin, what is it?” He looked back at Y/N, his blue eyes conflicted with defeat and terror.

They were going to die.

He couldn’t save her.

“Jason-”

“Keep your eyes out, Robin. We don’t know how this guy works.” As she spoke through the com connected to her suit, Y/N could practically see Tim’s eyes roll.
“You know, Sunbird, I’d rather keep my eyes firmly within my own skull, thank you,” Tim shot back, causing a bark of laughter from Nightwing across the comms.
Y/N smirked, ready with a retort when Batman’s voice cut through the comms. “Focus, all of you. We’re working with someone who has taken out three drug rings within the last week. Snark won’t get us where we need to be,” he graveled, and the birds settled down.
Batman, Nightwing, Robin, and Sunbird were all gathered at Gotham Harbor to confront the man who had ‘taken care of’ all three of Y/N’s latest missions. He was called the Red Hood, and they had yet to figure out his motive, who he was, or how and why he was intervening in Sunbird’s discreet missions. While she was appreciative of the danger being off the streets, she wasn’t fond of a new, murderous vigilante stepping on her toes. Y/N was perched atop one of the many red shipping containers littering the docks, the breeze pushing in the damp air from the ocean causing her to shiver. Her red and gray suit didn’t do much to keep the cold out, but her unnaturally high body temperature kept her from freezing. Across the dock Y/N could vaguely see Robin on his belly, his fingers tapping in boredom against his cape, while Batman was hidden amongst the shadows further to her right. Nightwing was to her left, balancing on top of a pole to give him a bird’s eye view. But, if you asked her, he was simply showing off. Everyone kept their eyes peeled and ears open for a flash of red metal or anything alerting them of their target.
After a while of nothing, Nightwing began to groan. “How do we know this guy is going to show tonight? He may be killing another bust right now, or, god-forbid, sleeping at the current time of midnight.”
“How do we know he doesn’t have a partner? We may be walking into an ambush, Batman,” Robin pipped up, having moved a few containers over for another perch.
“Ballistics show one gun type with the same bullets, all shot from the same spot. He’s working alone. Gordon sent Sunbird a tip about the trade-off happening here tonight, using the same system that he used for the other tips. The tips that Red Hood ended up busting himself. He found a way onto their link, and he’s shown up the past three times. He’ll be here.” Batman’s voice held no room for arguing, and the birds huffed in silence.
Just as everyone began to get comfortable once more, Robin’s voice yelled through the comms. It was inaudible and short, and by the time Y/N snapped her eyes to his perch, he was gone. She wanted to yell out for him, but she kept silent, not wanting to alert anyone to her position. Instead, she gracefully leapt down from her perch and quickly rolled to the side, hiding in the shadows beside Batman to gain a plan. He held up his hand to her, silently telling her to stay put as he moved toward the container where Robin had been.
“‘Wing,” he spoke gruffly, “follow me.” A blur of black and blue jumped from the sky before disappearing behind the container Batman had just gone to. Y/N listened and watched, waiting for any update on if Robin had been found or signs for what had happened. As the minutes ticked by and silent static graced the comms, she grew worried.
“Batman, Nightwing, what’s happening?” She whispered, her teeth nervously chewing at her bottom lip. They were fine, they had to be, they’re Batman and Nightwing, the original Wonder Duo. There’s no way anything happened-
“I didn’t kill them if that’s what you’re pittering about.”
Instantly, Y/N jerked her elbow back to hit the owner of the unexpected voice. However, when her elbow collided with metal, she cursed; both at the pain and the realization of who it was. She turned around, cradling her bruising elbow while looking up at the man before her. He was unfazed by her attacked, hands tucked comfortably in the pockets of his leather jacket and his head tilted to the side.
“Are they alright?” She questioned, lowering her arm once the pain had subsided. Knowing that Batman and Nightwing had been incapacitated by this man unnerved her.
He scoffed, “They’re fine. The bat and Nightwing are knocked out. They should really look into helmets. I’m sure they sell ones that brood.”
“What, like yours?” He huffed a laugh at her reply, and she could only picture a smirk under the hood. “What about Robin?” she asked, noticing Red Hood stiffen at the mention of the youngest member. A glint from an overhead dock light fell across his helmet, giving him a darker look. Y/N could see his fists clench in his jacket pocket while he paused.
“The replacement is fine. Knocked out like the others,” he finally spat after a moment. Confusion fell across Y/N’s face as she took a step back, trying to work out what he meant. “I was never worried about the cut he gave you scarring your pretty face, I’ll admit. And now that I get to see it up close, I was right to think it’d make you even more badass. Bet the gash on your shoulder is even better. Took a chunk right out of you.”
“Jason.” His name was more of breath rather than a word as it left her mouth, disbelief keeping her from reaching out. “It can’t be.”
“Missed you too, Sunbird.” The pet name Jason had given Y/N all those years ago being spoken by him nearly brought her to her knees. “I’m honored that you used your nickname to become a sidekick.”
Disregarding the jab at her occupation, Y/N took a shaky step forward. “Let me see you. Let me know it’s really you.” While the fact of her pet name should’ve been enough proof, she still needed to see him. To see Jason Todd again. “Please,” she whispered in desperation.
He paused for a second before sighing, “Never could say no to you.” Red Hood reached up and clasped at the underside of his helmet, his fingers working until a mechanical hiss filled the air followed by smoke. The helmet was removed and held under his arm while Y/N gasped quietly. “Still handsome, I hope,” he joked, quirking his lips in a toothy smirk.
“Jason,” she breathed once more, finally believing that the man she loved was standing in front of her. His hair was shorter, flat against his forehead from the helmet, and his eyes were hidden behind a domino mask; but it was Jason, there was no denying it now. Unable to restrain herself any longer, Y/N barreled forward, crashing into his chest and causing him to drop his helmet. She wanted to be mad at him for killing people, for not telling her that he was alive, but in that moment she couldn’t feel anger towards him. Jason squeezed her tight, dropping his head to the top of hers, and breathed deeply as Y/N clutched the back of his leather jacket.
“I saw your body- I saw… After the explosion, before Bruce got to us, I got free and felt your heart stop. I watched them bury you. I’ve been to your grave every month,” she rambled, shaking her head against his padded chest. “I’ve never stopped crying for you.”
Jason held her tighter. “I did die. I was dead for six months.”
Y/N looked up sharply at his confession, removing herself from his arms. “You’ve been alive for six years, and I haven’t known?”
He reached out for her, grabbing ahold of her shaking hand. “Sunbird, listen-“
“Jason, I needed you!” She interrupted, her voice pitched with hurt. “I was alone, nobody understood what I was going through. I shouldn’t have lived, but I did, and I hated myself for it every day. Bruce hated me for it; I was the reason his son was dead. It should’ve been me,” she croaked as her voice broke at the end, tears slipping down her cheeks while she looked up at Jason.
“No, don’t say that. I thought you were dead. Talia told me you had died! When I came back, I read your obituary. Everyone said that you had died with me, and I believed it because if I had died so did you. I didn’t find out you were alive until two weeks ago,” he explained, running his thumb over her calloused knuckles. “It killed me, twice over, thinking that I had been brought back to life while you were still dead.” Y/N reeled at all the information, her breath hitching in shock.
“The world had to think she was dead. If the Joker found out she had lived, he wouldn’t stop looking for her,” a voice spoke from behind Jason, causing the boy (now a man) to quickly turn around. His body instinctively stepped in front of Y/N’s, arms raised for a fight. But instead of one of his targets holding a gun, it was Batman and Nightwing. Jason stared at both of them, noticing the way they had aged in the past six years. While Y/N had grown from a fifteen-year-old to a twenty-one-year-old, the older vigilantes both seemed aged past their years. A part of Jason wanted to reach out for them as he did Y/N, but he held himself back. He came to Gotham for a purpose, and this wasn’t it.
“So, let me get this straight,” Jason began, ignoring the looks of shock on their faces and refusing them the chance to ask any questions, “the Joker gets to live, but we had to die?”
“It’s not like that,” Nightwing began and took a step in front of Batman before Jason laughed bitterly.
“No, Boy Wonder, that’s exactly what it’s like. Batman’s refusal to kill resulted in the deaths of two innocent lives, while the monster responsible gets to breathe, laugh, and walk freely. He cares more about keeping a good image than your own family,” he spat, continuing to stand in front of Y/N defensively. Batman kept silent as Jason vented, giving Nightwing’s sleeve a slight tug to pull him to the side.
“Jay, come back with us.” Y/N reached her hand out, grabbing onto Jason’s larger one with a soft touch to try and gentle his rage. “We can all sort this out, figure out where to go from here.”
Looking over his shoulder at the girl he presumed lost forever, Jason shook his head. “I can’t, Sunbird. Somebody has to kill Joker, and that somebody is me.”
Y/N gripped his hand tighter, “Don’t, please. I can’t lose you to my father again.”
Batman stepped closer to Jason, holding out his hand. “Listen to her. Come home, Jason. We’ve all missed you,” he pleaded, trying to find any sign of agreement on his son’s face.
Instead, Jason laughed bitterly, sending chills down the following vigilantes’ spines. “I don’t have a home with you anymore, B. This doesn’t end until I have his brains splattered over a crowbar,” Jason sneered, turning away to give Y/N one last look. “When this is over, I’ll find you.” From a normal stance, his words should’ve sounded creepy, but all they did was give Y/N hope.
“Jason-” But before Y/N could grab ahold of the boy she had watched die, Jason slipped from her grasp.

Crisis On Infinite Earths Outline Fix, Part 2
Like some I disliked the crossover, it's the worst out of all of them, and this is my preference for it to be done. This one is the first of the more aggressive changes to the crossover. Here are the ideas God blessed me with:
In the opening of the episode, Oliver wakes up on Lian Yu, then searching it, seeing visual reminders of his losses from the past, then being confronted by the Spectre, a green cloaked, shrouded figure, who quickly defeats Oliver and pins him to the ground, telling him his destiny is finally upon him.
This part has a bit more going on, so I'll explain in lettered plots:
A. This is a Batwoman episode, so like Kara was more or less the focus before, she's the focus here. The main structure and this bleeds into the B plot, is that the Monitor is dead now and the crisis is sill happening and they want to help other earths try and prevent E2's and Supergirl Earth's destruction for themselves. This plot is much more involved here. Using Pariah, someone who can sense the destruction of an Earth, sets their breach devices by a signal that'll send them to an earth by how close it is to being hit by the antimatter, taking them to the place where that might originate. Kate does this, but not before being found by E-1 Bruce, played by David Giuntoli, whose come due to the end of world type situation that's unraveling. We will expand on why this Bruce left. When Jason Todd was murdered, he became bitter and filled with rage and in this fit he hunted down the Joker and nearly killed him. Seeing himself as no longer fit to be Batman, he left, but this situation is dire enough to convince him to step back up. He and Kate travel to a few earths to warn those earths of the crisis, going to Gotham first. The First is Birds Of Prey TV Series Earth 109, where she meets Helena Kyle, played by Ashley Scott, and Dinah Lance, played by Rachel Skarsten, and with a vocal cameo by Oracle, played by Dina Meyer. Bruce is distraught at the idea of an earth where he's had a daughter. Kate is taken aback by Dinah's appearance, and doesn't know how to deal with it, but pushes through to find out where Batman is, thinking he may be able to help. Earth 109's Batman is Kevin Conroy Bruce, a bitter, angry and alone Bruce whose lost almost everything in his life. Alfred, Jason, Damien his son, Selina and Kate. Here we delve into why he left Helena and Gotham, seeing himself and Batman as nothing but an bringer of pain and death of all that he cares about. He's angry at Helena for her staying as a vigilante, thinking it will only bring to her what it's brought to him, that and his fear of bringing his family pain driving him to stay away. KC Bruce relents when he hears about the crisis, but it's too late and the anti-matter sweeps in, taking out Gotham, Helena with it, as Kate uses a breach device to take her, E1 Bruce and KC Bruce out of there. KC Bruce is devastated at this, but regroups out of a desire for revenge against what's done this. Kate realizes the breach device took them to Gotham TV Series Earth 14, met with Bruce Wayne, played by David Mazouz. They explain the situation to him, he's shocked, but grasps the importance of the situation and offers to help, him being dismissed due to his age and lack of experience. He protests this, but is met with the other Bruces viewing him as naive, citing their losses and how he doesn't understand the cost of being Batman, DM Bruce angrily snapping back that they've failed the city their parents wanted to protect, rejecting that future for himself, of giving up like that. But the red skies begin to emerge, the shadow creatures beginning to sweep across the world. KC Bruce almost taking a sadistic pleasure at the idea of destroying these things, as he activates his armored bodysuit. It wouldn't have to be too fancy as far as budget wise.
B. This one is much smaller, showing a few similar aspects, but not leaning so hard into the fan service in the way the show does. Kara, Lois and Clark, using the breach device set to tracing antimatter signatures, go to Smallville TV show's Earth 217. There they meet SV Clark and Lois, who still have kids. Kara's shellshocked to see Lois look so similar to her mom. At an earlier point of this story, Kara begins to feel obsessed with the idea of turning back time and preventing her earth and Argo's destruction, pushing Ray to try and figure out how to get the waverider to time travel, so she can prevent it. Seeing a Lois who looks like her mom doesn't help. They warn him of the crisis, offering up the ways it can be at least held off, as they try and find a way to stop it entirely, suggesting he gather the help needed to make it happen as they seek out other earths to warn. Then leaving, going to Superman The Movie/Series Earth 78. Where they meet Brandon Routh's Superman, who explains to them his losses due to the same thing as what happened in the show, Kara reflecting on the loss of this Superman and how he strives not to lose himself. Him agreeing to help in any way he can. Meanwhile SV Clark goes to Lex Luthor played by Michael Rosenbaum. He convinces Lex to supply what's needed for the tower to try and hold back the antimatter.
C. This one is more simple than the others. Sara, Barry and Mia try to work out what to do with Oliver, whose badly injured, but the waverider isn't able to heal him due to the creature's attacks being based in antimatter energy. They get Jjonn to project them into Oliver's mind to try and figure out what's going on, after Jjonn tells them that he senses that although Oliver's soul is still connected to his body, it's somewhere else. Oliver questions the Spectre's meaning and where he's come from, the Spectre telling him he was once Jim Corrigan, a officer who sought justice once but allowed himself to become corrupt and killed someone to save his own skin, only to be killed himself, in his dying moments finding God and repenting for his sins, God saving his life by giving him the opportunity to become a heroic force in the world, by being like a vessel for God's vengeance on earth. Spectre tells Oliver that it's now his turn to do the same and become a vessel's for God's vengeance of the multiverse against the Anti-Monitor. Oliver repents, giving his life to God and Jesus Christ, accepting this as his destiny. But not before Mia, Barry and Sara arrive, calling to Oliver. Oliver, torn at first, grasps the importance of this, and agrees, the Spectre's white-greenish energy emerging from underneath his shrouded cloaked face and breathing into Oliver. Barry, Mia and Sara are bounced out of Oliver's mind and Oliver's body disappears from the waverider in a flash of light.
At the conclusion of the episode, the heroes gather to fight back the forces collecting on Earth 14. In the midst of this, we'd get some old fashioned fan service, with KC Batman and BR Superman fighting back to back, and E1 Bruce and TH Superman fighting together as well. Meanwhile, we catch a glimpse of something similar happening on Earth 217, with Lex himself in an armored suit and Clark as Superman. The Bats are focused on beating the shadow creatures, while DM Bruce sees a family trapped in an area surrounded by shadow creatures, seeing the Supers and others making sure the hold back the majority of the shadow creatures to ensure the majority of civilians escape (though this is shown to not be possible as the shadow creatures are even more powerful than before), he throws a small explosive to break them free, and takes the heat of the shadow creatures, him taking a hits from them, it severely injuring him. KC Bruce takes DM Bruce's sacrifice in as he helps defend Kate, as she catches this. The shadow creatures begin to overwhelm them. When suddenly, E-38 Lex Luthor emerges through a breach and, surprisingly, uses a sonic machine that's emitting waves that cause the shadow creatures to stop attacking temporarily, E-38 Clark and Kara frozen in shock at seeing him, as he smiles smarmily at them and tells them, "Hurry up, I can't save you for very long with this!" Kate reacts quickly and manages to grab Bruce, just in time to escape as the earth collapses in on itself, every one of the team following suit.
Now, DM Bruce lay dying, the damage from the shadow creatures causing his body to fail. Gideon explains that it'd need a near perfect genetic match of Bruce to transfer non shadow creature damaged DNA, which would cause the one who transferred it to die in cellular degradation. KC Bruce stops E1 Bruce before he volunteers and takes the hit, explaining that he's lost his way and to tell DM Bruce thank you for showing him what it means to be Batman again, that it's not about punishing the guilty, but about preserving the innocence of those who are defenseless. The process starts and it heals DM Bruce, as KC Bruce dies. Kate cries in a mixture of grief and relief as DM Bruce wakes up, and she gives him the thanks, as well as from herself and E1 Bruce does so as well. Gideon does maintain that DM Bruce stay in sick bay, when he tries to get back to the fight. Kate and E1 that they can be enough Bat for now.
Meanwhile E-38 Clark and Kara throw Lex up against the wall, and angrily interrogates him about what he has to do with this. Lex remains cavalier about the situation, snarkily asking them if they can't handle it when he shows them that he's the hero. Kara and Clark's eyes glow with heat vision energy, before they reel themselves in, releasing him. Brandon Routh Superman asks him how he was able to stop those shadow creatures. Lex replying with, "Oh, another one. Delightful. At least this one has manners." Further explaining that it didn't stop them, but held them off temporarily by blocking the signal of whatever was controlling them. They question that, much to Lex's amusement, him outloud stating, "It's a good thing the Monitor brought me into this. Obviously, none of you are equipped with the brainpower to save humanity." Lex looks to E-38 Clark, saying, "It's gonna be fun working together again, don't you think?" Much to Clark's scowling.
The team are then alerted to the waverider jumping to one of the next earths that's to be wiped out. The waverider jumps.
Sara then calls the whole team to the control room, everyone rushing to it. Barry and the rest are met with the horror that Earth 1 is one of the next earths to be engulfed in the antimatter wave. Pariah appears, and begins laughing. Barry reacts furiously to this, grabbing him and asking him what he finds funny. Pariah explains that when he released the Anti-Monitor, he was promised that when this time came, he would get to do the damage. Barry slowly begins to realize what he's saying, as Pariah's eyes glow red and he superspeeds around the waverider cockpit, knocking everyone off their feet. Eobard Thawne stands over a shocked Barry in full Reverse Flash garb and says that their crisis has come.
TO BE CONTINUED...

Dirty and Useless (Part 6)
Summary: Jason Todd had always said there were only two types of cop; Dirty and Useless. So when Y/N comes along with a spunky partner and a laughable code name it’s safe to say they don’t exactly see eye to eye. But if they’ve got anything in common it’s their secrets. Both are hiding behind masks whether they know it or not. Will the Robin get the Nightingale to come out of the shadows? Pairing: Titans!Jason Todd x Reader Word Count: 1707 Warnings: None.
Tumblr media
Jason stared up into E/C eyes and swore that he would never see a sight as glorious as this. A beautiful H/C leaning above him, two unconscious henchmen somewhere behind them and-
Beep.
A still-active bomb apparently.
The woman sighed, running a hand across Jason's chest plate. For a split second, he was confused, then the R popped out and was flying through the air a moment later. It struck the bomb, cutting through several wires. The explosives gave one last beep and then the screen that read 00:02 spluttered to a stop. It was all far too close for the boys liking and exciting all the same.
"You called, bird boy?" The girl quipped.
Jason couldn't hide the grin that dominated his face if he tried, "Didn't think you'd answer, Nightingale."
"Fun fact; Male nightingales sing during the night to attract the female's attention," Y/N peered into the boy's eyes, tilting her head slightly, "Guess you sung loud enough Boy Blunder."
"I guess that's the charm of the Robin," He shrugged carelessly before looking down and finally allowing his shit-eating grin to fall into a frown, "You mind getting the chains off?"
Y/N made a good show of considering it before leaning down to whisper across the shell of his ear, "I think you should keep them on."
Jason froze completely under the woman's weight and he finally just how close she was. He could almost count the dents on the weaponised emblem embedded into her chest plate. It was a Nightingale midflight and would have been invisible against the dark shades of her outfit had the black emblem not been edged by red and bleeding gold. The swift contrasts between the abyss like black, the blood-red and glittering gold summed her up quite nicely. Or at least Jason had heard as much.
"Robin," The deep voice of Batman interrupted his gazing as the older man thrashed in his own chains. Either to look at Jason or to find some way to loosen the restraints, "Status report. I can't see, what's going on over there?"
Jason felt the moment her body stiffened but didn't anticipate the chains falling away when she moved to her feet. It was only then that the boy wonder realised that she had moved one arm from beside his head to pick the lock binding the thick metal around him. It didn't surprise him however when the girl made no move to help Batman, so he set about doing it himself.
"I called in a friend, I wasn't sure she'd come but-" He glanced over his shoulder as she pulled the R from the tangled wires that had been a bomb. "Wait. How did you know how to do that?"
"Disarming the bomb or the perfect shot thing?" She moved behind him, even as he continued to pick the lock around Batman. Y/N slipped her arms around his back and pressed the R back into place. It was a strange move but Jason had no doubt with this girl that it had been purposeful and calculated. He wondered what had changed with the girl that she had become so friendly with him.
Jason had to pointedly clear his throat and avoid eye contact with his mentor as he answered, "All of it. Usually takes us a while and even then we're paying attention. You just threw it."
"Would you be upset if I said luck?" He gapped at her, "Kidding! I've been disarming the Joker's bombs since before I could walk and the aim thing is just a lot of practice."
"Robin, who is this?" The caped crusader asked a dangerous edge to his tone as he examined the girl.
Y/N to her credit didn't flinch under the famous BatGlare™ but that was probably because her steely gaze was eerily similar. It was a Wayne thing then. With a dismissing roll of E/C eyes, Y/N clapped her hands together twice. For a moment the men were utterly confused at the girl's strange actions and then her suit started melting off of her.
It took only a moment for her to be left in dark blue jeans and a black leather jacket. Black riding gloves - that the rest of her suit had melted into - and her elegant mask were all that was left of the Nightingale. Though with a swipe of her hand, like she was wiping sweat from her forehead, her mask melted too. The feather from behind her ear joined the mask leaving only Y/N, her Nightingale gloves and a red-black ear cuff.
"It's a new suit design," Y/N answered the unasked question. "Nanotechnology mixed with Dyneema SB61 plastic - stronger than Zylon fibres and lighter too - as well as a small spell from a Lord of Order and maybe a tiny bit of stolen alien tech."
"That's illegal you kno-"
"Can I have one t-"
The dynamic duo slowly turned to face each other. While Batman painted the perfect portrait of annoyance, Jason wore an indignant look as if to ask; Why can't my suit be that cool? A silent argument passed between the two as both vigilantes fought to get their way. Inevitably Jason heaved a deep sigh and sent Y/N a look that might have been a mock expression of his mentors.
"Thank you for coming all this way and helping us," The Dark Knight gave her a tight smile. "But we have it from here Miss..."
A shrill ring interrupted them. Y/N turned away from the two famous Gotham icons, a finger raised in a 'one-minute' motion. A startled look flashed across the older man's face as he watched the girl ignore him. Y/N pressed the phone to her ear without a second glance at the caller ID.
"Agent Wayne,"  She peered out of the large familiar window over her home. "Please place your threat, compliment or request."
A tired voice rumbled back through the receiver, "Snarky as always Y/N."
"Melisa," Y/N rolled her eyes, "The hell are you doing up? It's like, the middle of the night."
"Speak for yourself."
"Touché," She admitted, glancing over her shoulder at the clock on the opposite wall, 1:14. "Still, if you of all people are awake it's gotta be something bad. So lay it on me, Sparrow."
"We have a new mission," Melisa spoke slowly, deliberately, something unusual for the spunky girl who had once held a goldfish in her mouth on a dare. "It's a bounty hunter job, they're offering a lot of money for it. Like money, you would kill for."
Jason watched over the girl's shoulder as a grin bloomed across her reflection's face. It was the sort of smile that villans gave when they knew something that the hero didn't. Excited and hungry and deadly. But then the faint indistinguishable voice on the other end of the call said something and that smirk shattered.
"Are you sure?" Y/N blinked several times, wondering if she'd heard right.
Melisa gave a sharp inhale of breath, "That's what they said."
Y/N pinched the bridge of her nose in deep thought. Before turning on her heel and marching to the computer perched on the beautifully carved desk. The Sparrow placed her phone down, pressing the speaker icon. She spun herself into the plush chair and began typing. Password. The girl didn't bat an eye as she punched in the access code. Jason didn't really follow what she did from there but it looked complicated, to say the least.
When Y/N finally stopped clacking away at the crisp keyboard she turned to the phone. It had been silent the whole time as if not wanting to interrupt her. Jason wondered if the Sparrow on the other end of the phone - probably still in Star City - knew what Y/N did at night. What she had done for most of her life. Had Y/N told her some excuse or that she was off to save his ass?
Y/N's finger tapped along the Enter key but didn't press any harder, "Look, Mel. We have two options in this, we find the bounty or, I can wipe all information from the FBI database and we never speak of it again."
"It's not my choice," Melisa exhaled slowly, "You're the one that knows them. Do what you have to, I'm with you no matter what. Just ask yourself; What's right for you?"
"I don't know," She groaned, fingers hovering over that Enter button. "Tell me not to do it. Tell me we need the money or that he deserves it."
"Does he?"
Jason held his breath as the decision - that made little sense to him but seemed important - was made. He peeked at the computer monitor curiously. A handful of case files from the FBI database were open along with another tab that read 'Are you sure you want to delete this?' Y/N looked anything but sure. She was glaring holes into that seemingly inconsequential sentence.
Jason's eyes scanned the files swiftly as Y/N squirmed in the huge office chair. It was then that he noticed the pictures. Him. Not even Robin, it was Jason Todd - in all his unmasked glory. There was a bounty on him and not a few feet from him Y/N was contemplating whether to turn him over. He squinted in an attempt to read the charges, to figure out why the gods damned FBI wanted him of all people.
WANTED
Jason Peter Todd.
Possible Witness of the Robin Ambush - Placed at the crime scene by DNA.
Last known location: Gotham City.
Several accounts of assault, petty theft, forgery, resisting arrest.
Ward of Bruce Wayne.
The boy was only snapped out of it when Melisa asked, "Can you in good conscious arrest him, knowing he's the... you know who. He hurt me and those other officers, yes, but he does a hell of a lot of good too. Is it worth the money? Does he deserve it?"
"No." And just like that, the files were gone.
"Then I'll see you when you get home," A snort and then teasingly Melisa added. "Nightingale."
Y/N bid the girl farewells, hung up and turned back to the bat and robin, "Sorry, as you were saying."

                                       ☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆
How did it began?
You tried to control your breathing  as the masked criminals cornered you in the warehouse, the darkness wasn’t able to hide their deranged eyes.
Well, honestly you didn’t know either.
They got closer to you, the glove with needles for fingers grabbed your wrist forcefully, the needles lightly scratching your skin. The green man growled as his can held you pinned.
“ Now be a sweetheart for us and keep still!” The straw-covered man growled as he put a cloth to your mouth. You breathed it, accidentally as he smirked under the mask. You feel your head lighter and your eyes heavy, suddenly you lost consciousness as the man in green smirked.
“ That’s my good girl!”
///*\\\
[ Flashback, a year earlier...]
“That’s my good girl!” Your parents screamed happily as they hug you tight.
You smiled softly as you proudly stood in front of your just awarded canvas. The Wayne society for the arts and design awarded 2 people with a special gift every 2 years.
You had practiced and practiced until you were ready.
After years of trying and never giving up, you won.
You won!
You smiled softly, patting your (long/short) (h/c) hair in a netly manner, you tuck your shirt as your parents hold you, holding their phones as they smiled big, getting you three and your canvas in the picture. They smiled as they loudly yelled:
“ SELFIE!!!” You smiled as they happily and proudly stood next to you with your baby.
Suddenly, four goons holding big guns came in, shooting the guards as a man in green entered the building, walking canvas per canvas, twirling his cane expertly. Your parents, ever the good reflexed, pulled you with them to the floor and safe between they both.
The man smirked as he said:
“When is a Howl silent and forever?”
From under there you saw a small creek that let you see what the green bean was doing.
Suddenly he stopped in front of yours, humming as his goons tied the remaining people, with a bomb. You could see your fellow acquaintances and art friends hugging or holding to their loved ones, even the cop was softly tearing up from fear.
Enough was enough.
Gathering all your self coincidence you decided to make the quite stupid move but you weren’t going to let all these people and your parents die without a fight.
Suddenly his deep voice tinted with a joyful tone that made you look at him again. He had just picked your canvas, the one you worked so hard to get right, up as he muttered rather to himself
“ Oh, you’re going to look fantastic on my-”
That. was. it.
“ What do you think you’re doing?!” You glared at his back as you stood up, your parents softly pulled your legs to hide but you wouldn’t budge.
He turned around slowly, getting ready to hit you with his can when he saw you.
Beautiful locks of (h/c), two beautiful gems of (e/c) with beautiful soft kissable (s/c) skin.
He didn’t see any woman, he saw you…
The Queen of Hearts
His Queen of Hearts
For the first time in forever,
Edward Nygma aka The riddler was speechless.
Speechless
tHE RIDDLER
SPEECHLESS
Just...wow
You looked at him with an eyebrow raised as you waved a hand in front his eyes. He stared at you, mouth half opened with heart eyes.
“Hello? You didn’t hear me??” You ask, slightly intimidated by his unwavering stare.
Even if they were covered by a domino mask you could feel his intense gaze, staring at you like you were the most gorgeous piece of art, His eyebrows raised as his eyes behind his mask dilated staring at your beautiful form.
He seemed to realize he was kinda looking like a dork as he closed his mouth and coughed, becoming the Eddie we all love again.
“ I said” You put your arms on your waist, fathering all the adrenaline left on your system “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I believe I’m standing in front of Helen of Troy.” He softly says, unblinking white lenses looking right into your beautiful (e/c). You sucked on your teeth softly before glaring cutely.
“I mean with my painting. You’re stealing it from me.”
He smiled charmingly while the other thugs keep grabbing canvas after canvas. He coughed softly to get your attention as he smiled
“  “Stealing” is such an ugly word… I rather prefer “acquiring”. It's much more aesthetically pleasing to the mouth.” he smiled as you frowned “Besides now that i know its yours its value has raised exponentially.” As you open your mouth to retort he interrupts you again.
“ But where are my manners?? The name is Edward, Edward Nigma” He smiles charmingly but you glare.
“I know who you are. You’re the riddler!”
The thug behind you angrily held your arms harshly  “Hey, no one talks to the boss-”
To your complete surprise, Edward hit him with his cane hard on the cheek, making him lose a few bloody teeth. He threateningly yelled
“UNHAND HER!”
From the force of the blow, you and the man fell to the ground, the man was passed out as you clutched your hurting head, as you had hit it with the floor.
“ My deepest apologies!” Said The riddler as he kneel down  by your side, his gloved hand on you back helped you regain sense. “ Sometimes the help can be rather...unhelpful.” He said, his voice soft and...what’s that worry in his voice?? “ Did he hurt you?”
“ I’m- I’m alright” You said with a soft voice, slightly leaning in his warmth chest. He noticed and couldn’t help but blush red. He pulls you closer as you rely on him to get up.
His smile becomes brighter as his cheeks heat up, your warm beautiful body flush against his makes him see stars. He coughs to regain his composure
“ Now, where were we? Oh yes! I was introducing myself.” He smiles, helping you regain your footing. He took that chance to take a short sniff of your perfume and
Fuck.
You smelt divine.
He could become addicted to your scent.
His smile disappeared, however when a shadow loomed over the glass ceiling.
The unmistakable bat shadow, even from the corner of his eyes. He signed in displeasure, he didn't want to let go of your warm hands so sweet and beautiful and…..
His.
“ Damn, It looks like we’ll have to finish this conversation another time, unfortunately  we’re about to be rudely interrupted-” As soon as those words escaped his pretty lips the window exploded in sharp shards of glass as The Batman fell from there, hitting The riddler in the chest with his boots. pushing him to the ground and a few feet away from you.
Edward grunted at the pain that shoot from his shoulder. He glared at the costumed male, as he got up slowly, shaking the shards of glass off.
“ Were you born with the ability to make an entrance at the worst possible time, or it that a skill you honed?” He grunts, green eyes looking at the white lenses of the cowl.
“Give up, Nigma. You know how this ends.” The bat said with an unwavering tone.
“I'm afraid I don't,Batman.” He smirked as his men surrounded him. You ran towards your parents, who immediately hugged you tight. “ And neither do you. “ He grabbed his cane and smirked “ The future is a riddle only time can solve.” He smirked, but his green eyes were looking around for you. “ Get ‘em, boys!” He ordered.
As the thugs attacked the bat, Edward was busy picking up your canvas again, his eyes still looking for any traces of you.
“Damn Bat.” He growled in his mind. “ Way to ruin my thunder.” His mind raged, biting his lip holding back the scream of frustration.
When he noticed you pretty shoes, he smiled. But then the bat got in his way again.
“ Got any other riddles for me to solve?” He said, crunching his knuckles.
“Actually….I do.” The Riddler, sick of the bat stealing his thunder and beating his ass and lowering his chances with you, smirked. A twisted smirl as he pressed a button on his question mark. “When is a question mark a bomb?”
BEEP
The bomb tickled as the bomb began the countdown. Batman shoot a batarang and cut the rope as the Riddler got away, your painting under his arm. He ran by where you were hiding and winked at you.
“ See you soon, my beautiful lady!” He said as you seek comfort on your parents chest.
Scared you looked at the caped crusader hopefully, as he took the bomb and with his grappling hook shot it outside as it exploded.
You breathed out as a small sob from the anguish scaped your lips.
“ We’re okay, (n/n)..we’re okay” Your parents whispered comfortingly as they hugged you close.
Outside, The riddler got in his car as he smiled at the fire on the air, reminiscent of the bomb.
He knew Bats wouldn't fail.
Now...he just needed to get your pretty name.

In The Riddlers green question-able full hideout, he was happily putting your canvas on his wall. His big happy smile couldn’t be tamed as his tousled hair fell on his eyes slightly. His tongue stuck out as he finally put your canvas on his wall.
“Perfect!” He smiles. As he observed the canvas his mind drifted away.
He should feel lucky that he made it out right?
He should be angry that the Bat had stepped in, right?
Why couldn’t he stop thinking about the (H/c) haired girl.
Oh But our dear ol’ Eddie wasn’t himself right now.
He was so captivated...so enchanted...mesmerized by you...
OH God, he was going “Stalker!” on you.
He smiled softly as he read on the college gazette an article about you, with a big photo of you with a pretty flower crown and a happy smile. Written under it a full article about the happenings the day before.
“ (y/n) (l/n), a student in the Fine Arts program at gotham university, survived her encounter with the Riddler…”
He smiled, as he got the scissors to cut the photo out and keep it in a safe place, inside a his question mark cane, to always have you with him.
And because you were the answer to his biggest riddle.
“Who owns my beating heart, oh just you miss (y/n) (l/n)...”

The next morning, College life started.
Your classes had gotten crazier and you enjoyed  any small moment you had for yourself.
You were in the cafeteria on your break, The soft hum of other students was drowned by your earbuds. You had just finished getting your food ticket and turned around, softly you bumped into a man, who dropped his books.
“ I'm so so sorry!!” You apologize, kneeling and holding the books up. The lanky tall man with brown hair, slightly greying on the sideburns. He pushed his glasse up as his blue icy eyes look into your (e/c).
His eyes softened slightly when he saw your puffy red eyes.
“Its okay, i wasn’t looking where I went.” He gives you a tight smile.
You looked at him and smiled, your tired eyes looked at him gratefully
“ It’s okay, it’s kinda my fault too.” Smiles. “ Let me make it up. I’ll buy you a coffee!” You smiled sweetly and the older man blushed slightly pink.
“s-sure. A black coffee please” He tried to smile charming but turning out menacing. You shrugged it off and paid for his drink, giving the man your tickets with the orders.
As they started to prepare it, you looked at the man.
“ Psychology, eh? It’s a rather fascinating science, right?” You smiled.
“ Indeed, I find the mind and it’s inner workings very fascinating.” He smiled.
“ You are studying psychology at college?” You smiled and he chuckled. You pouted cutely. “Aw it’s a serious question! I have lots of old classmates!” You pouted and he smiled.
“ I know, my dear. Actually I'm a doctor on the subject, specialized in Fears and phobias.” He smirked as he grabbed both your orders and set it in the table. “ please sit, miss…”
“(y/n), im (y/n).” You smiled as you sat down. “ Thank you mr…” He smiled softly.
“ Jonathan” He smiled, sipping his black coffee. “ It’s very nice to finally meet such an interesting person in this campus.” He smiles.
“ Aw thank you!, I'm very interested in psychology. I want to learn more so i can apply it into my illustration path.” You smile. His eyebrow raise as you peck his attention.
“ Oh? what for, if you don't mind me asking?”
“ Oh! it's okay! It's because I want to write and illustrate books for children with some psychological trauma or with some psychological problems. That will help them cope and will serve as educational for parents, teachers and young readers. I want to help them, so they know they are not alone.” You smile looking down, he looked at you incredibly impressed through his glasses. He smirked.
His interest was picked.
“ That’s a very nice and interesting dream, miss (y/n). I’ll gladly help you with completing your dream.”  He nodded, your face brightened as you held his hand, making him blush
“R-really?! You’d do that??”
“ Of course. I’d gladly teach you everything i know.” You smile and hug him.
“ thankyouthankyou!!!” you smile as he blushes deeply and hugs back. suddenly you bolt back and apologize, but he smirks, still blushing.
“it’s okay. it's perfectly okay” You smile softly, blushing rosy. Suddenly you look at your phone and bolt up.
“ snap! i'm going to be late!” you finish your drink and gather your bag as you wave at him. “ See you around, mr. Jonathan!” You said as you run out towards class.
“ Oh we’ll see around soon, miss (y/n). We will see eachother very soon…” He smirks, finishing his coffee.
///*\\\
You breathed out as you slipped in the classroom, setting your bag on the desk as you waved at your friends. They were about to come over say hi when the door bursts open.
“Hello, students.” A deep voice said as they walk towards the desk. You looked at him as your mouth falls open. He stands in the front and smirks at you, winking.
“ Hello students, My name is Jonathan Crane, Im your new teacher.”
oh S*it

batman: shadow of the bat #1
[ID: Batman shown from a slightly low angle. He sits on a bench and has his arms slightly bent due to his wrists being restrained by chains that are attached to the wall behind him. His thighs are spread wide open as he angrily glares directly at the viewer. To the left side of the panel and in the foreground is a security guard carrying a red baton. Due to purposeful cropping, the orderly is out of view as his red stick hangs low and partially blocks the view of Batman's knee. END ID]

Batman - The Carving - Issue #1
This is the script for the first issue of my fan created Batman comic story line, subtitled the Carving. It stars ‘The Carving’ the joker’s traumatised daughter, her fractured psyche and emotional state lead her to throw herself backwards in time on a one way mission to the only freedom she could ever understand.
The Carving – Part One – Betrayed Beginnings
Page One
Panel A – Light drops of rainwater drips down an axe, washing away dried blood. The unstained parts of the axe reflect the vibrant colours of the city shining into them.
Caption – Gotham City – The Year 2043
Caption – 09:32 PM
Caption – Two days after the Joker’s body was discovered.
The Carving – Caption – For decades I’ve wondered what it felt like. Living, that is. Human Living. Being more than just a heartbeat and breath.
The Carving – Caption – I wondered what it felt like to be a person.
Panel B – In the foreground, shrouded in shadow stands the flash (Barry Allen), his hood pulled down, his long beard swaying gently in the wind as he watches from the rooftop doorway. Standing on the edge of the building, looking out to the beautiful Gotham skyline is a figure wearing a dark stealth suit, a bloody axe hanging gently from her hand as she spreads her arms freely. Her long, vibrantly green hair flowing in the wind, sickly pale skin shining in the moonlight of the clear sky as the colours of Gotham city dance across her face. She is The Carving.
The Carving – I know what that feels like now. I know what it means to be a person. Which kinds of people there are. Which person I am.
The Flash – And who is that?
Panel C – The Carving jumps down from the edge on to the roof in front of him causing the flash to flinch slightly.
Silent Panel.
Panel D – The Carving runs up to the flash holding the bloodied axe in front her face. The entirety of her lower face, her mouth, cheeks and nose are hidden beneath an advanced looking skin-tight mask. Despite the mask, her excitement and joy can still be seen in her eyes and raised eyebrows.
The Carving – I’m the person that cut the Joker’s head off!
Page Two
Panel A – The Carving jumps back on the edge of the building spreading her arms wide and the axe high in celebration. The flash stands in the background, looking away from the Carving, guilty.
The Carving – He’s dead!!!!
The Carving – Ha! Ha! Ha! Haaaaa!
Panel B – E – This succession of panels is intended to display the swinging nature of The Carving’s moods and to demonstrate her separation from who and what the joker is. She is something different to her father. Over the first two panels, the joy and freedom in the Carving’s face are slowly replaced by despair and agony as she slowly lowers her arms defeated as tears begins to fall from her eyes. The third panel shows her screaming into the empty air in front of her in pure broken agony. In the final panel she begins to appear leaning forward over the edge of the building. Across the four panels the flash moves towards the Carving tentatively until he rests his hand on her shoulder in the final Panel.
The Carving – He’s dead…
The Carving – I’m Free…
The Carving – Never hurt…
The Carving – No more…
The Carving – Never…
The Carving – I’m Alive…
The Carving – AHHHHHH!!!!!
Page Three
Panel A – Splash – The flash is holding the Carving’s Arm as she stands nearly horizontal on the wall of the building staring down into the traffic dozens of stories below her. The Flash holds onto telephone wires to keep himself and her from going over the edge.
The Carving – You wouldn’t even let me go if I asked, would you?
The Carving – I know you’d consider it. I know you’d want to. You’d hate yourself for thinking it, but you’d want to.
The Carving – Maybe I’m wrong, maybe you would let me go.
The Flash – Clark would never forgive me.
The Carving – Well, he is dead, if that makes it easier for you.
Title Caption – “The Carving: Part One”
Title Caption – “Betrayed Beginnings”
Page Four
Panel A – The Flash, using all his strength, pulls the Carving back onto the ledge of the building, she makes it hard for him by not lifting herself in the slightest, or shifting her weight back onto her legs, which are still on the ledge.
The Carving – We’re going with saved then.
Panel B – The two of them are standing on the rooftop once more, the flash still not looking at her directly. The Carving looks at him with curiosity.
The Carving – You still can’t look me in the eye. None of you can. Why?
The Flash - …
The Carving – Guilt? Shame? Hatred? Am I getting close? Or is it pity?
The Flash – After what you’ve done, you don’t deserve any pity from me.
Panel C – The Carving’s smile returns, but it is crueller. She leans in close to the Flash who stares at her coldly; she seems bigger and more intimidating then she is.
The Carving – But it’s still there. And you hate it. You hate that you can’t hate me. Don’t you?
The Flash – Yes.
The Carving – Heh. Heh. Tell me why. I want you to tell me why, Barry.
Panel D – A look of resentment runs across Barry’s face as he continues to stare down at the bemused Carving.
The Flash – Because I didn’t save you.
Carving – No!
Carving – That’s not right. You can't even admit it to yourself, can you? Boy Scout could, you know. Just before… He was brave in the end, I guess.
Panel E – There is a silent look of rage from The Flash directed at his taunting company.
Silent Panel.
Panel F – Finally the Flash looks away in shame. Causing the Carving’s glee to somehow present itself more clearly on her face.
The Flash – Because I chose not to save you.
The Carving – Yes…
The Flash – All of us. We all chose not to. For years…
Panel G – The Carving wraps her arms around the shamed Flash in a taunting and false hug causing the Flash to only look more disgusted, but he doesn’t try to fight her off.
The Carving – There you go. There you go, sweetie. Get it out.
The Carving – Now, doesn’t that feel so much better.
The Flash – You belong in Arkham. Sealed away.
The Carving – Wouldn’t be the first time you kept me locked away in hell.
Panel H – The Flash turns away from her as he continues where he was cut off.
The Flash - …Bruce stopped us.
The Carving – No! No! No, he didn’t. He asked you not to interfere. And you just accepted that. He never had to stop you because you never tried!
Page Five
Panel A – The Carving’s face becomes sympathetic in an instant as she continues the one-sided hug on Barry. Meanwhile behind his back she is picking at some of the dried blood still stuck to her axe.
The Carving – Oh, I’m sorry sweetie, I didn’t mean to shout. I just… I just get so mad. You are so big, so far above the rest of us. But you still bow to that Big Bad Bat like a little puppy. Doing what master says, hoping for a treat.
Panel B – The Flash tears himself from The Carving’s grasp and begins to walk away. The Carving raises her hands in mock surprise at his withdrawal.
The Carving – Aren’t you going to ask me why I’m here?
The Flash – No.
Panel C – A close-up on Barry’s stunned face as he hears the Carving’s next words.
The Carving – Just gonna’ run home to sweet Iris, and uh, … what are their names it’s so hard to remember? Dan and Dianne?
Panel D – The same shot as before but now rage has taken over Barry’s features.
The Flash – Don and Dawn.
Panel E – The Flash, using his super-speed is holding the Carving by the scruff of her combat suit, holding her mostly over the edge of the building.
The Carving – Oh! Ha! Ha! Back here again!
The Carving – How old are they now? 16? 17? I forgot to ask.
The Flash – What did you do? Where are they?
Panel F – The smile and cruelty vanish from The Carving’s face as a wave of cool focus seems to wash over her. She has power over the situation and she knows it, and so does the Flash.
The Carving – Let go.
Page Six
Panel A – The Flash releases her and takes a step back to allow her to stand fully on the roof once more.
The Carving – That’s better.
The Flash – Where are they?
The Carving – No. Not yet.
Panel B – The Flash turns around and bends down to get into his running stance to leave, but the Carving pulls a clicker with a big red button with the word ‘Boom!’ written on it, from her belt.
The Carving – Always in such a rush. You must miss so much going so quickly.
The Flash – What is that?
The Carving – You know what it is.
The Flash – What do I have to do for you to not press that?
Panel C – The Carving sits on the ledge, folding her arms and legs, letting The Flash stand straight once more.
The Carving – 23rd September 2022.
The Flash – Why?
The Carving – Why not? Ha Ha!
The Flash – Whatever you plan to do, you have no idea what consequen…
The Carving – Are you going to take me, or I am going to have to go and kidnap Wally’s family too?
Panel D – The Flash hangs his head in defeat. As the Carving saunters towards him in gleeful victory.
The Flash – I have a responsibility, Carving. I can’t use these powers to disrupt time. Especially knowing what happened last time I changed history, it nearly caused the world to tear itself apart.
The Carving – Well that sounds like an exciting story Barry. But I think that, right now at least, you have a choice to make, all of time and space, or little Iris.
The Flash – Tell me why. Why that date?
The Carving – Oh, you’ll figure it out when you get back here, don’t worry. Now stop dilly-dallying.
Panel E – Small sparks of energy begin to bounce off the Flash’s boots, as he holds out his arms in an invitation to the Carving.
The Carving – We have a deal then?
The Flash – It seems I don’t have a choice. The Carving – Don’t you remember Barry?
The Carving – We always have choices. You should know that by now.
The Carving – Don’t hide behind helplessness Flash. It’s not a good look on you… hero.
Panel F – The Carving jumps into the Flash’s arms bridal style, hanging one arm around his neck.
The Carving – Good choice, Flash!
The Carving – You know, I’ve always wondered what this felt like.
The Flash – Time travel? 4. The Carving – Being held in kind arms…
The Carving – But yes, time travel too, now that you mention it.
Panel G – This panel will show the Flash in very stages of descent down the side of the building and onto the road below in the heavy traffic, his streak trailing behind him. The Carving is waving her arms around like a child in an amusement park.
Silent Panel
Page Seven
Panel A – Splash – The Flash runs towards a time vortex. The vortex appears to be tearing itself into reality, dragging everything towards it with bolts of lightning shooting out of it. In the centre of the vortex, The neon sign of A.C.E. Chemicals sits in the eye of the storm. The Carving is no longer waving her arms, instead focusing intently ahead, her grip on her bloody axe is clearly tight.
The Carving – I’m ready.
Page Eight – Nine
Panel A – Double-Page Splash – This splash is meant to serve as a fragmented introduction to the DC Universe which the Carving and this older Barry Allen originate from. As the two of them travel through the time vortex, moments of importance flash through the vortex. The muscular body of Superman lying on a lonely country road, costume torn and bloody, with his neck visibly broken and jutting out into the skin; In the background Lois holds the body of Superboy who looks as bad as superman, his neck in the same condition. The hands of a Green Lantern wrapped in yellow chains with the cracked, lifeless ring of willpower still sitting on his finger, mocking him. A lonely Diana sitting upon the throne of Themyscira wearing her mother’s crown, darkness engulfing her. Arthur Curry turning away from a holo-image of Amnesty Bay with his brother Orm standing at his side. Penultimately, Bruce Wayne, cast in shameful silhouette, standing in the doorway of Wayne Manor as Alfred Pennyworth and Damian Wayne carry their most valuable possessions away, never to return. Finally, Batman, without his cowl to hide his agonised face, aiming a pistol square between the eyes of the Carving herself.
Silent Panel.
Page Ten
Panel A – A silent, gloomy Gotham alleyway. Trash and filth cover the floor and walls as shadows try their best to hide the disgusting site.
Narration – Gotham City – 2021
Panel B – The portal smashes through reality into existence as bolts of lightning lash out at the walls and fire escapes. Stray newspapers and other trash are claimed by the violent winds swirling around the opening in reality.
Sound Effect – Krack!
Panel C – The portal has disappeared as soon as it appears, Barry Allen now standing in its place with the Carving already eagerly jumping from his hands. Her eyes wide as she takes in the Gotham of the past.
The Carving – It’s…
Panel D – She turns and looks at Barry with disappointment.
The Carving – It’s the same. Isn’t it?
The Flash – Gotham is always Gotham.
Page Eleven
Panel A – The Carving catches a stray piece of newspaper that is still floating about in the air.
Silent Panel.
Panel B – C - A close-up of the front page, the attached photograph shows the Penguin sitting in a bulletproof glass box inside a court house, but the article is more focused on the captivating Bruce Wayne standing in the middle of the court room. The title of the article reads, “Bruce Wayne, Batman’s Elected Court Representative!” The paragraph of the article that hasn’t been torn away from the old paper reads “Bruce Wayne appeared in court today, acting as the middle man between Batman and the Gotham High Courts. He presented evidence provided Batman and authenticated by the GCPD with assistance from several divisions of Wayne Enterprises. The Penguin will face life in court for numerous counts of arms dealings amongst other charges including…” The rest of the article is missing. Silent Panel. Panel C – The Carving brings the paper close to her eyes and crosses her eyebrows with heavy scrutiny.
The Carving – He looks so young. He still has his eye…
The Flash – Where is my family?
Panel D – The Carving walks down the alleyway towards the main road still engrossed by the newspaper. She absentmindedly calls back to the Flash.
The Carving – Who?
The Flash – Is this all a big joke to you?
The Carving – Yes? Yes.
The Carving – That’s the answer you wanted, right?
Page Twelve
Panel A – The Flash launches a vibrating hand right at The Carving’s belt, she watches but chooses to not react what so ever. Silent Panel. Panel B – The Flash crushes the trigger in-front of her in a righteously victorious manner. While the Carving just rolls her eyes.
The Carving – Party Pooper.
Panel C – The Flash grabs her and slams her against a wall, his face a complete mess of confusion while the Carving just seems bored with the whole situation.
The Flash – You’re done! You’re coming back with me to our time. And I’m giving you back to him. He can decide what to do with you. As long as I never have to see you again, I don’t care.
The Carving – Good little puppy.
Panel D – The Flash turns back to the centre of the alley where the portal had been moments ago. But is halted in his tracks, his face is cold with shock and dread.
The Carving – And I thought you loved her. I mean, she clearly loved you.
The Flash – Whispering – loved…
The Carving – Yes, Flashy boy. Loved. You see…
Page Thirteen Panel A – Splash – Without holding back, the flash slams her into the wall sideways with all the force and speed he can.
Sound Effect – Slam!
The Carving - #### Barry! What was that for?
The Flash – Enough ####### games. What did you do? Where is my family?
The Carving – They’re waiting for you at home. Just hanging out.
The Carving – Hehe. Cough* Sorry. Hahaha!
The Flash – What. What’s so damn funny.
The Carving – Hanging!
The Carving – Panel Sound Effect – Hahahahahahahaha!
The Flash – No… 10. The Carving – Yep.
Panel A – Indent – Barry’s face collapses to tears as he raises his fist and begins to vibrate is right in-front of the Carving’s face.
The Flash – Whispering – Why?
The Carving – Cause Barry.
The Flash – Why!
The Carving – Because now you can’t take me back.
The Flash – You’re right! I might not even take back a body.
Page Fourteen
Panel A – The Carving, seemingly enjoying playing with the Flash shrugs lightly.
The Carving – Oh, come on. You’re a smart little puppy Flash. Why did I pick this date?
The Flash – I don’t care!
The Carving – Yes you do. Good little detective like you? You need to know. It’s scratching away at the back of your mind. Chipping away. Chip! Chip! Chip!
Panel B – The Flash lowers his vibrating hand while The Carving just waits expectantly.
Silent Panel.
Panel C – The Flash snaps up looking at the Carving with sudden realisation.
The Flash – No… No, you can’t! You can’t do that. It will create a paradox. Time will tear apart trying to rearrange itself around the void.
The Carving – There you go. Clever little puppy.
The Flash – I can’t let you do this.
Panel D – The Carving walks forward knowing she now has the power of the situation.
The Carving – But you know you’re going to anyway. Don’t you Barry.
The Carving – You know that if there’s ever a chance. The smallest chance that your wife will be waiting for you when you go back. Your beautiful children running up to hug you as you walk through the front door. You will never fight me, because if you don’t let me do what I came here to; you will never hold Iris in your arms again.
Panel E – Barry let’s his shoulders fall as he stands back out of her way. The Carving forces his eyes to hers by lifting his head under his cheeks. He doesn’t hide the tears dripping into his beard, nor does he hide the rage and grief dancing across his face.
The Flash – I hate you.
The Carving – You all do. You always have. Now, I’ve just given you a reason.
The Carving – Now go home.
Page Fifteen
Panel A – Without another word the Carving walks down the alleyway towards the street. The Flash is left standing defeated in the dark; losing a fight he didn’t even realise had started, a fight he’d already lost.
Silent Panel.
Panel B – A Close-up of Barry as he looks down at his wedding ring, gently rubbing the beautiful gold band and the delicate metal work. The letter’s ‘Iris’ shining in the pale moonlight shining down from above.
The Flash – I’m sorry.
Panel C – The Carving is leaning against the wall, around the corner listening to the Flash. Her eyes are sad.
The Carving – I really shouldn’t be surprised. The plan kinda’ did rely on him believing it.
The Carving - *Sigh*
Panel D – The Carving looks up at the neon green sign that reads A.C.E Chemicals. Her shoulders are slumped, she looks weary as if she were about to let the earth consume her.
The Carving – I’d just mentioned their names, and he’d never even think to question it.
The Carving – Iris, he loves her so much. I wonder what she’s like.
Page Sixteen
Panel A – A joker thug is patrolling along the roof of the A.C.E. Chemicals building with a high-powered assault rifle in his hands. He is walking towards a Joker thug who is lighting a cigarette through a heavy plastic mask, with his legs dangling over the side of the roof.
Gun Thug – Even for him this is twisted.
Smoking Thug – Haha! You’re kidding right.
Gun Thug – Don’t laugh like that man. You know you sound like him.
Smoking Thug – I know, I know. I’m sorry. Come on, relax man.
Panel B – The thug with the assault rifle slumps down and sits on the edge of the roof next to his friend and lets his own feet hang off the edge. He sits the rifle against a pillar next to him. Behind them, The Carving appears in the shadows, her axes drawn.
Gun Thug – You know what he’s doing to her in their don’t you.
Smoking Thug – This is just their thing you know that.
Smoking Thug – He chases her. She runs. He catches her, drags her back kicking and screaming up a storm.
Gun Thug – I don’t know man. He’s never used chains like that. Back When they started, there’s used to be a glint in her eyes, a smirk behind the gag. Not this time. She was bloody.
Smoking Thug – I thought you didn’t have a shift on Tuesday.
Gun Thug – Rostering called me last minute.
Smoking Thug – Huh. Of course, they called Craig before they called Xavier.
Gun Thug – Hey, I told you not to give them your real name when I brought you in.
Page Seventeen
Panel A – The men continue their conversation oblivious to the figure who is moving closer towards them, raising her axes.
Smoking Thug – Whatever man. Why do you even care? She was bloody last time as well.
Gun Thug – And the time before I know. It’s getting worse though. I can’t remember the last time I saw her even pretending to be happy about being caught.
Smoking Thug – You suddenly grow a conscience mate. You know this is dirty. Just don’t think about it. They’re both sick. Just be happy the freak’s attention isn’t pointed at you.
Gun Thug – I was sitting with my daughter last night. She asked me to tell her about work.
Smoking Thug – Ah Jeez.
Panel B – The Carving lowers her axes slightly. The smoking thug puts an arm around the shoulder of his buddy.
Gun Thug – What am I meant to tell her. That I got paid to carry a bloody and beaten, barely conscious woman in a stupid clown costume. And then hang her by her cuffs on a crane above a vat of acid for some sick clown to come and play with?
Smoking Thug – I don’t know how you do it. Go home to her after working a shift here.
Gun Thug – I have lots of glass friends sitting in my fridge.
Smoking Thug – That’s only going to make it worse later.
Gun Thug – Whatever, crossing bridges and all that ####. I’m just trying not to think about what he’s doing to her in there right now.
Smoking Thug – Yeah. Me too. Wanna smoke?
Panel E – The Thug with the rifle is reaching for a smoke out of the offered pack from his friend when The Carving slams needles into both of their necks, causing them to stiffen and contort in pain.
Silent Panel.
Page Eighteen
Panel A – The Carving is checking the gun while she stands above the unconscious bodies of the two guards. Rain is starting to pore down on her and the bodies, she seems unphased by it.
Joker Thugs – *Groaning*
Panel B – The Carving lands gently on metal catwalks as the sickly green glow of the acid shines up from the bubbling vats below.
Soft Sound Effect – Clang.
Panel C – The Carving slowly approaches the edge of the catwalk, looking down in to the green. A look of disgust and fear crosses her face as she raises a hand in surprise to her masked face in surprise.
The Carving – Mom!
Page Nineteen
Panel A – Splash – The Joker is standing, half submerged in a shallow Vat of acid. His shirt is dissolving as the acid splashes over his body. With one hand, he is holding a purple trailing point pocket knife blade to the neck of a bound and gagged Harley Quinn, her arms being held above her by cuffs hooked into a crane. The Joker is laughing maniacally as he uses his free hand to run an acid coated hand through his electric green hair like a perverted shampoo. Harley is thrashing roughly in the acid as her pants melt. Her blood is dripping into and mixing with the green acid, as tears mix with the blood leaking from lacerations on her face, staining the fabric gag. High on the catwalk in the background, the Carving is visible in her shocked and frozen position.
The Joker – Oh Harley dear, stop thrashing about so much. I know you’ve missed this as much as I have.
Harley – MMM!
The Joker – You’ll have to speak up dear I’m afraid my ears are getting a little clogged from the bath.
The Joker – Now. What does my little minx want her pudding to do to her?
The Joker – HAHAHAHAHA!
Page Twenty
Panel A – The Carving turns away from the railing, from the scene below, she is slamming her eyes shut, desperate to stop the tears escaping them.
The Carving – No! Don’t let me see…
Panel B – C – These two panels are meant to follow the idea of like mother like daughter, both being subjected to the sadistic tyranny of the joker. In the first panel, Harley is screaming into the gag as the Joker bites into her neck while lightly dragging the blade across the top of her shirt. In the second panel, The Joker is uncomfortably close to a Terrified and agonised young girl with long green hair and skin paler then his own. He is kissing her forehead as he carves the letter “J” Into her chest.
The Joker in both panels – You are mine! My pretty girl!
Panel D – The Carving has slunk against the railing of the catwalk with her head in her hands, her body troubled as if it were shaking with dread.
The Carving – Go away! Go Away!
Page Twenty-One
Panel A – The Carving pulls her knees to her chest and holds them tight, her face is a wet mess of tears as they drip down her face and across her mask. She begins to softly sing to herself.
The Carving – “Mary, Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row.”
Harley Quinn – Off/Panel – MMMM!
Panel B – The Carving shakily returns to her feet, using her rifle to support herself. She is still singing to herself and her eyes are squeezed tight, trying to drown out Harley’s muffled screams coming from below.
Harley – Off/Panel – AHHH! MMMM!
The Carving – “Mary, Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row.”
Panel C – The Carving rests the rifle on the railing and aims it down at the vat of acid. Her face has gained some of its determination.
The Carving – “Mary, Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle…”
Page Twenty-Two
Panel A – The Joker reaches up and tears away the dissolving rag and tosses into the acid. Replacing it with his index finger as he moves himself as close to Harley as physically possible.
The Joker – Now my pretty little Harley, is all that screaming necessary. You sound like a dog caught in a bear trap. Or are you just whining for me like a good little girl?
Panel B – The Joker removes his finger and holds Harley tightly with both hands around her neck.
Harley – Softly as she’s struggling to breathe – Please, puddin’ ya hurtin’ me. Stop.
The Joker – Hehehe. I know Harl’
Panel C – A red dot appears on the side of the Joker’s face as he leans in close to kiss Harley.
The Joker – Come give your Joker a nice kiss and I might stop squeezing. Or maybe I’ll squeeze harder.
The Joker – AHHH-HAHAHAHA!
Panel D – The Carving’s finger ever so slightly squeezes the trigger.
Silent Panel.
Panel E – A massive swirling shadow appears over the Carving as she is about to fire.
Batman – Who are you?
Panel F – The Carving’s eyebrows shoot up in surprise as she recognises the voice.
The Carving – No. Not yet…
Page Twenty-Three
Panel A – The Carving swings her axe around, catching the fins on Batman’s gauntlets. He himself is still hidden mostly in shadows, practically invisible.
Sound Effect – Cling!
Panel B – The Carving launches herself at the shadows with her axes aimed high, ready to strike a killing blow. Her rifle now leaning unreliably on the railing.
Silent Panel.
Panel C – The Carving spins around with a kick aimed for the head, she is blocked by a floating hand as if the shadow was defending itself from her.
Silent Panel.
Panel D – The rifle is starting to slip from its precarious resting point.
Silent Panel.
Panel E – The Carving is contorting herself in an extreme fashion in an attempt to slice at the shadow’s legs with her axes.
The Carving – Hmm!
Panel F – The Rifle is now falling away from the railing towards the edge of the balcony.
Silent Panel.
Panel G – The Carving makes a dive for the rifle as it falls off the balcony to the full vat of boiling acid below them. Grabbing her leg are the finned gauntlets of the shadow.
The Carving – No!
Page Twenty-Four
Panel A – The Carving kicks at the shadow’s arms.
Silent Panel.
Panel B – The Carving launches herself into a sprint along the catwalk. In the shadow behind her are piercing white eyes.
The Carving – You won’t stop me! Not again!
Panel C – The Carving readies her axe to throw down at the Joker who is still oblivious to the commotion going on above him.
Silent Panel.
Panel D – As the Carving is mid-throw, a grappling hook wraps itself around the handle of the axe.
The Carving – No! No!
Panel E – The Hook retracts, dragging the axe from her reluctant grip pulling her to the floor as well.
Sound Effect – Thud!
Page Twenty-Five
Panel A – Splash – The Carving is kneeling on the ground with one hand on her second axe, looking ready to pounce on the figure before her. The figure being a larger than life Batman, holding her axe above her in a position ready to defend against the undoubtedly incoming blow. His cape is swirling around him, making him look almost animalistic and demonic in his visage that is still partially hidden within the shadow.
The Carving – You weren’t here Bruce!

Hi, since you put this in the tags, I hope its okay to answer some of your issues and would like to preface that this is not an attack or any sort, just a way in explanation cause I see a lot of these kind of struggles come up with people for the movie and this particular portrayal and goes under the presumption that you watched Batman v Superman the Ultimate Cut and not just the theatrical cut and Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
1) Yes, visually its inspired by Injustice, but actually the plot is really more Rock of the Ages, Final Crisis, Identity Crisis, etc. because Injustice is a Superman where he doesn’t really think he goes dark, he becomes militant / a dictator / turned by his loss to fear opposition and loss of control, and the endgame for this version of the Superman as revealed pre Zack Snyder’s Justice League release was for Clark to succumb to Anti-Life which enslaves him against his will to be a puppet of Darkseid’s will ( which is also hinted at in the origin of Parademons in ZSJL whom are soldiers / dead warriors turned into Parademons by Darkseid) meaning its not Bad Superman it is Enslaved Superman manipulated by Evil Alien Lucifer.
2.A I would just like to clarify that BvS works like the main event comic where a lot of shit doesn’t get explained because you’re meant to read the solo comics AND THAT it had always been the intention for their to be a Batfleck solo movie to expand on that history and character probably sometime after the initial date for Aquaman and before Justice League Part 2 but due to essentially studio mishandling and ben affleck’s own personal problems at the time, a lot of what should have been are now just what could have beens so any presumption on his background will remain unknown unless somebody leaks that Ben Affleck Script
2.B. both marketing and story have heavily indicated that this is a Batman that has been around for 20 years and just like Wonder Woman, or to be precise more like Clark, has been working under the radar, and is a known myth within Gotham ( e.g. Clark was investigating the people in Gotham and the people who lived there knew of him, the cops knew of him, but they don’t exactly see him ) and like he said in ZSJL, he’s only real when he’s useful, which means like in comics, he functions in and out of city’s consciousness in a way because he operates in the dark and in the shadows and outside of the police, the usual Batman Cliche and he says a line that if you want to read into it heavily implies that he’s seen some shit: TWENTY YEARS IN GOTHAM, ALFRED, WE’VE SEEN WHAT PROMISES ARE WORTH? and another line, said to him, in early Snyder trailers of Gotham finding it nice to see him with working with partners again and if you also want to read into it Clark and Perry’s interaction is kind of the answer you need: Gotham full of crime. Water is wet. / The police are working with the bat. (paraphrased vaguely) , Clark obviously looked into it, they didn’t show us that he was reading other newsletters or journalists talking about it because as far as the GO TO GOTHAM AD ( if you accept it as canon ) treats the Batman as a tourist attraction, which means he may be Gotham’s Mothman in the sense that he’s there, people know it, and some people think he’s a joke attraction, some people think he works with the cops, some people think he’s a bad guy, etc. etc. ALSO SUICIDE SQUAD (2016) addresses him as having had experiences with a bunch of their members and that the government (Waller) knows he exists but since he’s probably only stuck in Gotham he was left alone
2.C. I also have conflicting feelings regarding this but that robin as far as Zack was involved had always been meant to be Dick Grayson because in this universe, there are damning repercussions to everyone’s choice, so Batman employing a child soldier (hate that term but its fitting in this context) to join him in a war against crime will have damning repercussions and its this death exactly that motivates this version of Batman’s particular darkness  ( take that as you will but I just wanted to clarify ) and he dies as a teenager AND i know a lot of people has a problem with it cause I would also have liked a more clear version of the BATDAD vibes that Ben’s Batman really gave but they have never hidden the fact that they took heavy inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns which is a seasoned Batman that doesn’t have Oracle, doesn’t have Tim, doesn’t even have Talia if I remember it correctly (so someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) so no Damian, so Carrie Kelley is the expected Robin here
** yes, b and c are just for clarification purposes and less so to argue against what you might have felt or just you know disliked or liked from this interpretation
And this is more so the last overarching point, Zack’s approach was always just setting up a ground point and that ground point was Man of Steel = Man meets The Superman and Batman v Superman becomes how Man reacts to The Superman and this is through the lens of both Bruce Wayne, Lex Luthor, and The Media, he wanted to address basic themes of the hero’s journey with CLARK as the focal point, the build up was there, because this is not a straight POINT A to POINT B story, if you think all of these are bad writing, I’m not going to aruge that, but just as a reminder that so much would have probably been answered had there been so little meddling point because the very basic premise of the 5 arc movie Zack had was to get us from Superman to meeting the Trinity to the core League and from there a world united featuring all other superheroes in dc roster like Black Canary, Atom, etc. in fighting against Darkseid.
I think that Ben Affleck's batman was wasted potential. The first scene with him really catches your eye. Bruce arrives in Metropolis in the midst of Supes and Zod duking it out. During the sequence, Bruce ensures a small girl stays with her class as a Wayne Enterprises building collapses, saves a man we see several times later in the film, and then saves the life of another little girl all in quick succession. These acts, coupled with the first batman scene are really REALLY compelling!!!! I genuinely was more drawn in during those 5 minutes than I was for the entirety of Batman 2022 (the film felt hollow and not like a batman film, no matter how cerebral and noir-esc they tried for) Ben Affleck's batman genuinely could have been great had it not been for a couple factors.
one - the injustice storyline that they seemed set on going with.
two - Batman V Superman glossed over so many things and jumbled so many more. (Ex. Jason's Robin outfit on display in the Batcave and the fact that despite that, the way it was written made it more feel like batman was a newer player in the field, not a man who'd had the time to go through two Robins. Let alone one)
and finally, three - No solo outing.
Granted, I'm not a big fan of Injustice in general as it just... doesn't sit right with me in general but disregarding that, it was rushed, even going straight from Man of Steel to Batman V Superman was incredibly rushed. There wasn't nearly enough world-building in Man of Steel to justify using that as the single baseplate from which Warner Bros attempted to build their entire DCCU from. Stories like these take time to build and unfortunately, the studio wanted the pay off without the work. That could have been fixed if they'd released the big three before Batman V Superman. Hell, even just tossing a Batman film into the mix and releasing Wonderwoman afterwards (like they had) would have been better. I think that if they wanted to start hinting at Injustice, they should have been a couple movies deep before even beginning with that.
As I've said above, Batman V Superman glossed over so many things that should have been addressed. Honestly, it was just bad writing that Henry, Ben, Gal and Jesse managed to make significantly less terrible. The way it was written made me think that they couldn't decide if Batman was a new player or if he'd been around for a while. Why isn't batman talked about more? Clark makes it sound as though there are no news articles or even chatter about him outside of a handful of non-criminals we meet in the tenement building scene. Why is Jason's robin outfit in the batcave? Why are there no other allusions to Dick or Jay since we DO know that there was, at one point, a robin? (Hint: the answer is bad writing)
And lastly, a lot of the unanswered questions could have been fixed with at least one solo outing with Ben Affleck as Batman and honestly, I definitely have the easiest time seeing Affleck's Batman with a hoard of children, so we definitely could have had the batfam on the silver screen. Plus I thought Jeremy Irons absolutely killed it as Alfred and I would literally pay anything to see more of his Alfred.

DC One Million Reading Order
Tumblr media
There’s already a reading order online - which is that I used - but I found it was just ... well, wrong... in places. Ideas were introduced after they had already been brought up, character’s were set-up inconsistently and story beats lost their potency.
So, here is what I’ve compiled and determined as the best reading order for the crossover. To that end, I am not detailing any “specific events” or spoilers in why certain stuff belongs where. NO SPOILERS. A letter in square brackets denotes an important note or consideration, but, again, I am avoiding any story spoilers in them, they are things you should consider before reading it.
Core issues:
Chronos #1000000
JLA #23 [a]
DC One Million #1
Young Justice #1000000 [b]
Action Comics #1000000 [c]
Batman #1000000 [c]
Catwoman #1000000
Robin #1000000
DC One Million #2
Impulse #1000000
Superman: Man of Steel #1000000
Superman #1000000 [d]
Superboy #1000000
Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1000000
Nightwing #10000000
Detective Comics #1000000
Green Lantern #1000000 [c][e]
Starman #1000000
JLA #1000000
DC One Million #3
Aquaman #1000000 [c]
Power of Shazam #1000000 [c]
Flash #1000000 [c]
Wonder Woman #1000000 [c]
Martian Manhunter #1000000 [e]
Adventures of Superman #1000000
Resurrection Man #1000000
Superman: Man of Tomorrow #1000000
DC One Million #4
The following can be read at any point (a.k.a. they do not progress the story at all, do not introduce or develop any ideas that are referred to again and are of no consequence to the main story). Personally, I would read them totally separate as they detract from the momentum of the ongoing narrative of DC One Million. And even then I would recommend only read them if you like the character or book they are spinning out of.
Azrael #1000000
Chase #1000000
Creeper #1000000
Green Arrow #1000000 [f]
Legionnaires #1000000 [g]
Legion of Super-Heroes #1000000 [g]
Lobo #1000000
Supergirl #1000000
The following are revisits of the DC One Million timeline or story:
DC One Million 80-Page Giant #1 (1999)
Hourman #1-25 (1999-2001)
Martian Manhunter #11 (1999)
JLA 80-Page Giant #2 (1999)
All-Star Superman #6 (2007)
Booster Gold #1000000 (2008)
Superman/Batman #79 (2011)
Superman/Batman #80 (2011)
Notes:
[a] Only the final two pages, which lead into the “DC One Million” crossover and are referred to and footnoted in DC One Million #1, are important and here’s where it gets annoying - they are missing from nearly every subsequent reprint and re-release of this issue, namely the JLA: Strength in Numbers trade paperback, the JLA Vol. 3 trade paperback and even the digital version available via ComiXology. The pages are also not included in the DC One Million trade paperback, the JLA One Million reprint or the DC One Million Omnibus hardcover or trade paperback collections). The only reprint of this issue that does include those two pages is the JLA Deluxe Edition Vol. 3 hardcover.
[b] this issue is very very VERY skippable and is only listed in the core issues as it is referred to in quite a minor way and footnoted in Superboy #1000000. The placement of this issue however does squander the introduction of the future Robin who is set up better in Batman #1000000.
[c] This stories all begin at the same time, I have arranged them in order of importance of information conveyed and relevance to ongoing plots and sub-plots.
[d] Superman #1000000′s final page takes place after Superboy #1000000, it even acknowledges this in footnotes and makes vague references to the outcome of the Superboy issue. There are no major spoilers, but if you wish, you could inject Superboy before that final page.
[e] Martian Manhunter #1000000 actually follows directly on from Green Lantern #1000000, but events and narrative spinning out of the Green Lantern issue should take precedence. Trust me on this.
[f] Green Arrow #1000000 features a minor consequence free cameo that places it anywhere between Action Comics #1000000 and Superman: Man of Tomorrow #1000000.
[g] Legionnaires and Legion of Super-Heroes are a two-part story, with Legionnaires being Part 1 and Legion of Super-Heroes being Part 2.
