hi ^___^ i just recently discovered there was a fandom for bynmm!

regarding egg week, do you have a plan for when it'll happen next year?

also, have you ever considered doing a month instead of a year (eg. faulotober or something like that) ?

in future years, egg week will likely continue to be held during the last week of november, leading up to our beloved ms. thomas’s birthday on the 29th. leah’s birthday is the original reason we picked that time period back in 2017.

as for doing a whole month, i did make a prompt list for eggtober™ back in 2020 (it can be found in the #info tag), and i’d be perfectly happy to make another one this year :)

also, if you have some fan content related to bynmm or leah’s other works that you’d like me to reblog here, feel free to tag @blunderkinder and i will do so without hesitation! beyond that, if you have specific ideas for further events, shoot me a dm (preferably on my main blog @anhedoniacity but here works too) and i will do what i can to bring them to life!

I am! It's been a WHILE since I've been on Tumblr, but I still love how it's a great place for tiny fandoms to come together, discover, and share whatever creations they've made with one another☺️

hnnng anyway here are the thoughts about When Light Left Us

1) Thank you?? @cuttoothom for Orson Liu cause as a second gen chinese living overseas his character was like. Really Validating. And stuff. I actually cackled at Grandma Liu’s antics, because it was honestly a play by play of what goes down when I bring guests over at my own house.

2) Maggie Vasquez what an icon. The Macdonalds Vanilla Latte confrontation was Really Something. Also I literally have never read a YA book which depicts a mother like Maggie Vasquez and it was so? Refreshing? Like? She was such a bad mother and such a perfect mother at the same time it was heartwarming/real/lovely all at the same time.

3) The gratuitous anime references... God this is PEAK LITERATURE

4) As I found when reading BYNMM and NNY, I loved every single character. Like, you just gotta fave the entire cast, supporting characters and all. Like... Penny? My child. Platinum? God I wish I were her. Ms Yu? Completely wrong about the morality of house cats but an icon nevertheless. Even the villain is just really fuckin fascinating.

5) As soon as ***SPOILERS*** Henry Flowers talked about a missing daughter i literally said to myself, I bet it’s Dr Ruby. When Orson drove Hank from the basketball courts I literally said to myself “They would make a cute couple.” Ya girl’s a psychic! ***END SPOILERS***

6) If you liked BYNMM you should check this out! If you like strongly character based scifi check this out! If you want to put yourself through an angst train but then finish with a smile on your face check this out! If you like diverse YA novels check this out! It really is a book written with love :)

Introducing… BLUNDERKIDS: The RPG!

Based on the Because You’ll Never Met Me novels by Leah Thomas (@cuttoothom) and inspired by such classics as Lasers & Feelings, Masks, and Honey Heist, BLUNDERKIDS is a simple mechanics RPG designed for character-driven roleplay and open worldbuilding.

Play as a teenager with extraordinary abilities… and extraordinary side-effects. Perhaps you have two mouths; perhaps you can remove your own heart from your chest. Now, in a forum you stumbled across online, you have finally found others like you.

After weeks of writing comments and letters and making connections, you and your newfound friends have come together to find out the truth: about your parents, about your abilities, about yourselves. In the midst of uncovering your past, it is time for you to discover your future….

Wait, what does that mean?

It means we’re going to have a fandom week for Because You’ll Never Meet Me! (and Nowhere Near You, naturally)

When is it?

November 22nd-29th. Officially at least, late and early postings are still cool cause sometimes life happens and we get that (most of us are in the US and Thanksgiving is that week so, we get it).

So what will this fandom week entail?

Art! Fic! Meta! Screaming! Probably tears. Basically whatever you want! Egg Week is the fandom going “we like talking about BYNMM so much lets have a whole week dedicated to it”.

It’s also a great excuse to finish any fan projects you already had in the works, but we’re also going to have various themes, challenges, and meta questions throughout the week to help guide and inspire. Themes and questions will be announced next week and challenges will be posted the day of throughout the week

Sounds neat! How do I participate?

Post your BYNMM/NNY related stuff and enjoy! Tag it with #eggweek2017 so that others can find it, and that we can reblog it here.

Should we submit our stuff to you?

aaaaaa so idk if im gonna keep this up but I just wanted to show the ceramics project I was working on earlier this year! A couple of the pieces are unfinished because... I’m lazy tbh there’s no real reason. And yes, I did make the whole thing BYNMM themed. Ill list out the quotes used because it’s really hard to read them here lmao:

Tbh i could go on and on about the mistakes in this project, the most obvious ones being the thing being unfinished and the glaze that came out SO PATCHY (which I’m gonna be salty about for the rest of my goddamn life), but I’m also really proud I got so many pieces done on the wheel without going completely insane lmao

Who are these two epileptic characters?

First there’s Ollie Paulot from Because You’ll Never Meet Me which is an AMAZING book!! There’s a really small community for it on tumblr, and the author @cuttoothom loves interacting with readers. The story really centers around Ollie and his pen pal Moritz as they navigate their awkward teenage years. I really don’t want to spoil it for you… just read it.. pleas (there’s a sequel coming out next month if that sweetens the deal)

Then there’s Simon from Lord of the Flies. This is one of those books which people either really like or really don’t (I personally love LotF) since it gets really dark and violent as the story progresses. The thing here is that Simon’s epilepsy is a little more implied? I picked up on it really quickly because I knew which cues to look for, but Golding never outright says it. I have a post about Simon which you can read here, if you want.

Also there’s maybe a character in The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky? I haven’t read it though since I’ve not had any time on my hands, although it’s on my 2017 reading list.

If you want a more factual text about epilepsy, you can try reading A Smell of Burning! I read it a few months ago and liked it, because it gives some real-life anecdotes regarding the author’s late brother, and it also discusses the history of epilepsy. Personally, I feel like the terminology could be a little outdated, and if you don’t like nonfiction it can drag on. Nonetheless, it gives a lot of background info!

I need more people to talk about bynmm with because I really need someone to talk to me about Moritz in nny. He experienced s*xual assault and was having his boundaries violated frequently, and although he said no and was full of shame he still couldn't bring himself to tell his partner because he felt like being taken advantage of with in some way disloyal.

All of this, without the words to say it. I think Leah did a really good job at capturing the feeling of Moritz' feelings, and at showing how OWEN felt too at being shielded and "protected" by what Moritz was going through because he was being seen as too 'small' or disabled or just too weak to care for himself, when he wasn't.

I just feel like a lot of things were done right, right, right, right, right. Including nobody pressuring Moritz to confront what happened to him on his own when he wasn't ready or comfortable with it.

I’m sorry to bother, but what is egg week and how did it come about? I love these books but I’m really new to this fandom!

Egg Week is the first ever annual celebration of these awesome books! As the good eggs of Leah Thomas’s egg carton, every day, we’re submitting something creative m based off of a prompt by @blunderkinder, who organized all of this (AND THANK YOU IT’S SO MUCH FUN).

You can participate by submitting art, fanfic, headcanons, moodboards, or other random musings, as long as it’s related to BYNMM and tagged with #eggweek2017. I’ve been doing stuff for my Ollie child every day, and I plan to continue with that trend.
