hello!! here are some ideas:
lil' oinks from paper mario 64
colliwobble from banjo-kazooie
maya from the ace attorney series
chu from the chulip series
puck from final fantasy 9
mottle slime from dragon quest
obviously no need to do all or any of them, just thought it'd be fun to give a good range of designs. best of luck with your drawings!!
hey remember those old request drawings i did? well i have a BUNCH left i never got to, and i really like a lot of your suggestions, so maybe i do some more!
bynine you had some really good ones i was tempted to do them all lol. i know very little about chulip besides some stuff i saw a while ago, but its definitely a game id like to try some day. ive also never played paper mario 64, whoops! definitely one i have to play some day.

I'm really excited for @bynineb's upcoming game, Cavern of Dreams, and I love the protagonist so I just had to draw the little guy. I tried something a little different too - I tried to imitate those N64/PS1 box art renders where everything is smooth and shiny and the shading is black (though I was a little too scared to go all in with that part). I referenced Yoshi's Story, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, and Spyro specifically. It's not perfect but I made an attempt and it was really fun!
Please check out the game, it looks amazing!
#cavern of dreams#bynineb#the background is also the texture of banjo's bed from banjo-kazooie#just transformed a bit#fan art#i hope you don't mind the tag!#feel free to ask and i'll remove it#the game is exactly up my alley and is inspiring me to make stuff too#i hope i did the lil dragon justice!#logic art#2022 art

The problem with this is that each stage is absolutely flawless and I hate what I'd lose with each evolution. Especially the second stage.
moray eel fakemon! they turn from rock/water to rock/dragon. (this is a reinterpretation of this older concept.)

I know you review Pokemon, but have you reviewed the Squisherz from Hypnospace Outlaw?
(Just finished the game. What the fuck. I was not expecting this to be as emotional as it was 🥺🥹)
As a matter of fact, I did! I wrote "in-universe" like it was a real franchise.
The squisherz were designed by my friend @bynineb !

Finished playing Cavern of Dreams by @bynineb
I really liked it! It's a very cool little platformer that looks like it would've been at home on the N64. Controls feel a lot better than an N64 game tho. I'd recommend it to fans of 3D platformers!
A lot of cute character designs; I love Luna's in particular!!
It was fun doing all the puzzles and uncovering secrets. Sometimes they felt a little obtuse in the moment, but that could've just as well have been a me issue because I took a small break and was able to solve some stuff I struggled with right away.
(also I tend to play switch games while walking on a treadmill, so that probably contributed to some confusion around puzzles)

If you haven't looked at it before the Halloween Bestiary is a thing I've done for a few years now where I talk about obscure or lesser known Halloween creatures, most often totally nameless ones that exist only as a merchandise phenomenon - like sentient doorbells, owl-shaped things that obviously aren't owls at all, nonhumanoid mummies and so on. The only rule is I have to have seen at least three different examples, even if that's all I ever ran across! - the pumpkins incorporating metal junk for instance were only common one year, for some reason, and have been very rare ever since. This year's entry was doll-headed spiders, and at the end of the article are links to all past entries. There's 27 of them in all! It'll be something special when we get to 31 of them.
Also in uploading this art I found one I drew, but never made an article for:
I've definitely seen even more Skull Moons since this.
I also once collabed on a book version with @bynineb though it's been a while since I could afford to order and sell a bunch of hard copies. You can get them on amazon if you need but not much commission comes that way. It's been years since Amazon even sent me any money at all for any books I technically have up :')

So I played the demo for @bynineb's game Cavern of Dreams. In fact, I played it back in February during Steam Next Fest. I wanted to write this back then, but I'm only writing this now. Hooray for procrastination!
When I started playing, I found it... alright. I love 3D platformers, and Cavern seemed like a competent take on it, even if I thought its main influence were the Spiro games, which, as a Nintendo fanatic, I never played. But it was cool. The platforming was solid. The first level was kinda small and the high concept was wanting, it was just a florest area with a strange belltower rising up from a lake. It was okay.
Then I realized. That wasn't a belltower. That was a church. It was a sunken church, in the middle of a lake in the middle of a random forest grove.
As I continued exploring, I found more stuff that was kind of strange, mostly around the implication that the church hadn't sunk, it simply was a church for fishes. You can find headstones for fishes, and later a fish crypt decorated with fish spines. You can eventually enter the church and see its waterlogged pews. And that's not the only weird thing to find, there's also a secret cave that leads you to an area that's sideways, with trees growing horizontally from a grassy wall.
And I was reminded of Moo-Shoo Pork, a boss from Gex 64.
youtube
I don't rememeber how old I was when I fought this boss. My memory says I wasn't even ten, but I was twelve when I got my N64 - although I've always been kind of a dumb child, so maybe my mental age was closer to eight. What I do remember is looking at this guy and muttering 'how disturbing'. Look at it! It's a half-pig, half-cow guy with a devil mustache living ins some sort of mad science laboratory (which I remembered as a kitchen, for some reason). What is that guy's deal? What was he doing on a PG-13 game?
I can't answer these questions now, let alone back then. But having stuff that I didn't understand in games was pretty much par for the course. Being Brazilian, I often lacked the cultural understanding of US or European culture that was meant to inform the presentation of these games. I kind of understood the language, but still lacked the referrents. (Although I must stress that now, as an adult that consumes a lot of US and European culture, I still have no idea of what MooShoo Pork's deal is.)
I'm not sure if that's what Cavern of Dreams is going for, and I have a feeling that I'm way off, but that's what the demo felt for me: not nostalgia for playing a cool platformer, but nostalgia for being completely lost, lacking context to understand a game level except within the game's mechanics. If that's what the game is going for, it needs to be completely vague, since it needs to still confound us as grown adults. And as far as I can tell, it's succeeded.
