Hi!! Second question here!!

I see you talking about Kralsei a lot and I honestly LOVE reading about it!! I'm really curious to know what you think about their symbolisms of light and dark, and how this would reflect on their characters and relationship in the game itself!

...oh boy, do I have Thoughts about this topic. I could talk about this for DAYS, but I shall refrain and just offer you some of my most recent musings on the subject.

So yeah, I'm pretty much in the same camp as you when it comes to looking at Kris and Ralsei as representing their respective worlds - obviously Kris is our protagonist and the character we literally control, and they're a lightner, so they represent the light world, while Ralsei is the first (actually second because of Lancer) darkner we meet and get to know, and he calls himself the prince of the dark, so naturally he stands in for the dark world. The two characters have some kind of connection that hasn't really been explored too deeply in-canon, and there's all the talk about the balance between light and dark and how disaster will befall the world if the two were to fall out of alignment, and it does make you wonder what role exactly they will play in redressing that balance... but more on that later.

What complicates this view is the fact that there's three entities you have to consider: Kris, Ralsei, and Us. And then you have to ask a new question, which is that if Kris represents light and Ralsei represents dark, then what exactly are we supposed to represent? Are we the force that works to keep them in harmony? Or could we be the wedge that drives them apart, by forcing them to interact in ways that neither of them really want to? Obviously our involvement is non-negotiable at this stage, as there wouldn't be much of a game if we weren't present to exert our influence upon Kris, and by extension Ralsei. But it is possible that, in our eagerness to force them together/apart, depending on your viewpoint, we could perhaps be sowing the seeds for disaster further down the line.

Another thing I think about with regards to Kris and Ralsei, both in terms of their developing relationship and the debate surrounding them, is how important communication - or rather miscommunication - is when discussing them. In-game time, these characters met yesterday, so they don't really know each other all that well. Kris isn't exactly able to represent themself properly due to our influence, but even putting that to one side their proclivity for pranks might make it difficult for Ralsei (who we must remember doesn't really understand the concept of sarcasm) to properly understand them on the rare occasions they are permitted to speak. And for his part Ralsei is a textbook people-pleaser who seems to default to whatever he thinks would make Kris and/or the player happy over his own preferences, and we also know he has a bad habit of not telling people things he doesn't think they need to know, perhaps until it's too late. Put the two of them in a room together and there's a good chance that neither of them will have a clearer understanding of who the other actually is, but rather hold false representations of each other that all but guarantees further misunderstandings down the line.

And if these two characters WERE to end up in a relationship of some kind, whatever form that might end up taking, those misunderstadings could end up causing the very thing they were trying to avoid in the first place... but I shall park that thought there for right now :P

Meanwhile, there's also the point that WE do not really know Kris or Ralsei that well, or their respective opinions on each other. We have clues, of course, such as the teas and the ways these characters behave around each other, but there is the danger of extrapolating from these meager pieces of information, such as when people thought Ralsei might be "evil", or that Kris despises him because his tea doesn't heal for 120HP while Susie's does. And that can lead to assertions such as "Ralsei is essentially identical to Asriel so shipping him with Kris is essentially incest", which... I don't have enough time in the day to go over what is wrong with that right now, but trust me that is coming down the pipeline.

The crux of what I'm trying to say about all this is: we just don't know enough about the situation right now. We can't read Kris's or Ralsei's mind, and what scraps of knowledge we can glean from their conversations and narrative details isn't enough to base any sort of decisive statement on how their relationship might develop in the future. All we can say for sure is that something connects Kris and Ralsei, the game is pushing them together in these situations for some narrative or thematic purpose, and thus wants to say something about the nature of RPG romance, destiny, love, identity, agency, et cetera, through them.

But yeah... I've kind of rambled for like two hours at this point, so I think that's a good place to stop. Thank you for the second ask! :D

Spooky Month Episode 6 was amazing! No spoilers (since I don't want to spoil people) but I loved this episode, especially since I didn't expect it to be so emotional.

Ooh this is interesting! It does seem that Ralsei would be very easy to manipulate in this way, given his seeming devotion to Kris/the Player... and the fact that you're guaranteed to get the puppet scarf after going through the weird route definitely seems intentional.

I think there's something to be said about the notion that our actions and choices may determine how Ralsei's view of himself evolves and changes throughout the story. And items like the Puppetscarf, the recruitment system with all that entails, as well as the mere existence of the weird route, suggests that that view of himself as a servant and puppet to greater powers than his own can be reinforced, or it can be defied, as we see with Susie's treatment of him. Depending on how his character arc progresses/regresses, you could definitely see someone like Susie getting upset with him over his insistence he's only meant to serve the lightners and nothing else.

And the idea of him just using the lightners to fulfill the prophecy is another interesting curveball, because it invites the possibility that Ralsei is equal parts puppet and puppetmaster, and that we are equal parts complicit in his manipulation while at the same time willing to be manipulated BY him. (Is... is this the fabled Toxic Yaoi I keep hearing about?)

One theory I was surprised wasn't popular is that the weird route might continue with Ralsei. The puppetscarf item is a item obtainable in the weird route. And is described as "A scarf made of strange strings. For those that abandon healing." It greatly increases his attack and reduces his magic. The puppet scarf could likely be foreshadowing for how Ralsei sees himself. As a puppet on strings for the lightners to use. Strings literally wrapped around his neck. Ralsei believes that he's supposed to be used. Not liked. Which will almost definitely set up conflict between the party. Especially when Susie says so clearly that she considers Ralsei one of her friends. And she might feel betrayed like she did in chapter one with Lancer if Ralsei reveals that he only wanted them to complete the legend.

It's so specific but I love the idea of Ralsei loving makeup and me having the headcannon for his room to at least have a dressing table for makeups XD

I would love to see this explored in chapter 3 by something VERY specific which is... That dragon book!?! You know that book that Asriel have?? The "How to draw dragons" book?

So, when we go to the library, Berdly says that the dragon in the cover has a mauve skin, and has lipstick. Since this book it's on Kris' house... and there is a small description of the character, I wouldn't doubt that this dragon will be in chapter 3 as a backstage makeup artist or something related to it due to the chapter's tv and show theme!!

With this I kinda thought about when this dragon gets to meet Ralsei, starts to likes him a lot and treats him like a little prince like he deserves?? Or their favorite between Kris and Susie, but also for the familiarity with goat monsters since their book was Asriel's ?!

Idk but if it'll be like this, I would love the Ralsei and makeup thing more explored because of this dragon!! Honestly, I think it would even help Ralsei to know better who he is and discover more hobbies with that!

Bro definitely spends two hours every day making sure his makeup is perfect for when the lightners visit XD And for sure, it'd be cute as heck if a character in a future chapter acknowledges that aspect of him and rizzes him up for it. Heaven knows our boy could do with a little pampering and positive reinforcement!

As for whether that character would be the "How to Draw Dragons" dragon? Could be, honestly! Your idea of them being a makeup artist for a TV show is a good one! Personally, however, I think that'll have another role to play, if you'll humour my thought-process a moment.

I have a feeling - and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking this - that Asriel didn't borrow that book for himself, but for Kris. We know that Azzy doted on his little sibling, so if they put him up to it because they were too embarrassed, then he'd definitely do something like that for them. The other thing is, we know that Kris is quite fond of Susie, even before they become proper friends in Chapter 1. And she's a purple dragon, the same as the dragon on the front cover of the book...

Anyway! With this in mind, I think this dragon, should they make an appearance as a darkner, is going to end up messing the current fun gang dynamic up something fierce. Susie's gonna look at this and realise she's Kris's "type", which'll probably end up making her feel weird after the whole Noelle thing back in Chapter 2. And then I feel that Ralsei's also gonna put two and two together, which is probably going to make him feel worthless when he realises that Kris only has eyes for Susie and not him. I think it could be an interesting way to develop the continuing theme of love/romance in Deltarune, and in particular the "perception versus reality" aspect of it, as the "How To Draw Dragons" book would likely end up looking like a more sexualised version of Susie, what with the lipstick and the... immodest dress. I haven't developed this thought all that much, but your ask made me think about it for the first time, so thank you!

To get back to your ask (sorry for the massive tangent!) - yeah, I think there is a lot more we could learn about Ralsei through his hobbies, including any new ones he might pick up. He does have a LOT of hobbies, it seems, from cooking to crocheting and interior decorating, and he can sing! Going by his jaw-droppingly gorgeous no-glasses sprite above, I think we could add master make-up artist to that list as well! And yeah, it'd definitely be amazing to see those hobbies being used as a way for Ralsei to discover more about himself :)

AA I have lots of questions about Ralsei for youu 😭🙏✨ but let me do only 2!! First one here

- What do you think of titan Ralsei idea? To imagine that he was somehow created to be a destructive being, but he doesn't want to be that kind of person?

The idea of Titan-Ralsei fascinates me, because while there's no real evidence FOR it at present, neither is there any strong evidence AGAINST it either. I really like it because it lets me imagine a future scenario where Ralsei is forced to betray his friends when the roaring kicks off, in a way that is both very emotive and rather simple to understand. It plays off of his identity issues rather nicely as well, that he doesn't know who or what he's actually like as an entity.

That said, I don't know if I believe that's exactly what's gonna happen... but I'm not entirely against it happening if it does. For instance, if you had asked me this two or three years ago, I would have said he's definitely not a titan or titan-adjacent, because he's obviously Kris's old headband! But now I'm wondering if the whole "horned headband" angle might be a red herring, since there's also the missing green crayon that could be associated with him, and his dummied-out manual mentions that his body is given form by the dark fountain, suggesting he might not actually have a corresponding light world object. On top of that, he doesn't follow the standard rules of other darkners (doesn't turn to stone in other worlds, can seemingly travel freely between fountains) that point to him being something more than a mere fursona given form. But on the other hand, there's his resemblance to the Dreemurrs, his admiration and near-obsession with Kris, that are both explained much more elegantly if he IS the headband... haha, my thoughts are a bit all over the place right now with it, as you might be able to tell! :P

Of course, it's not like those two things are necessarily mutually exclusive - he could be an item or concept that ties him to Kris, but also have some kind of link to the titans as a being of "pure" darkness. But that seems a little wishy-washy, so uh... I guess my final answer is I don't know but I'm excited to find out one way or the other!
