Each footstep echoed a distinct 'clock' sound through the tall hallways. Every stone hand placed; every window hand made. Sure, I wasn't there to help much, but even still, walking through the halls was like a dream.
The windows, each nearly reaching the ceiling, has its own design that it would cast down in a colorful shadow (all on the order of the rainbow, of course).
I would make sure to try and walk the east side of the castle every morning, and the west side every evening. In the mornings I would try to wrangle my hair into a sturdy braid (I still don't know how She does it so easily), or at least some low pigtails, but sometimes it was too difficult to take any attention away from the stained glass.
I would occasionally sneak into the kitchen and snatch away a loaf of bread and some jam, the cooks didn't mind (they would even set some aside for me). The rooms were large, the furniture extravagant, the garden always lively, the people always friendly.
Until the sun went down, that is.
The nights were quiet, that was the only downside. The palace was always warm during the day, but at night it got cold, so cold. Cold and quiet; every drip of water, every squeak from a mouse, every little sound is just like back then. No matter how soft and mattresses and pillows and blankets here are, no matter how many feathers I sleep on, I can still feel the cold, wet, floor.
I didn't have a blanket. Either time. I didn't get one. Sure, either of us could've gone out and made one, but it would've quickly been ruined, one way or another.
The first time, She often would visit, just to check in on me, to make sure I was okay, and that He wasn't dangerous for me to be around. He was, I just don't think I noticed, thought it was 'tough love', or something. She definitely noticed, She offered me a home in Her castle, I thank Her for that.
The second time, She only visited once. She gave me food, a few books, clothes, and a hug. She washed and braided my hair for me, it was nice. I tried to hide them, but It found out. It always finds out. I couldn't keep anything She gave me, even Her hugs were taken from me after It destroyed the portal. It was hell.
I couldn't return home, not with It watching my every move; like a hawk with axes and swords for talons. Eventually, They showed up. I hid at first, I didn't want It knowing that I spoke to, or even saw anyone. They noticed the condition of the place - normally beaches aren't covered in soot and scrap fabric. They looked for me, I hid again. They found me, I hid my face with my arms, hid Them by scrunching my eyelids tight. They looked like It, with that armor.
When I opened my eyes again, I could see that They weren't It. One of Them was shorter than It, with longer hair and a smaller frame, the other was probably twice It's size, and not vaguely human. But The looked safe(er). They didn't look like They wanted to hurt me.
They offered me shelter, and I told them what happened over hot coco, and They listened. They listened, and bundled me in blankets, a bowl of warm stew from the small one, a set of soft clothes from the big one. So quickly, They managed to make the coldest place on the server feel so warm.
But They just as quickly left. The big one took me to walk around town, even though neither of us were allowed anywhere near there. The sun hit my skin with actual warmth, not reflected off of snow and gray clouds. I told the big one that I wanted to stay, that this was my home, and he laughed in response, like I told a bad joke.
When the time came, we were surrounded, I told that big one again that I wanted to stay, even after everything. I saw his eyes change that day, like His, but calculated; like It's, but angry. He didn't hurt anyone that day, but everyone knew what could've been in an instant.
The town was gone days later, my house, and the last remnants of Him with it. Out of all people to team up with It, why Them?
When She heard what happened She cried. I hadn't seen her cry before. I cried too, when She hugged me. She kept weeping into my hair that She was so grateful that I was alive. I didn't really get it, but the hug was nice.
I finally moved in with Her, with nothing to my name. She got me a room, good clothes, good food, a therapist. The beds were so comfy that it took me a few nights to actually sleep, I didn't want to wake up on the beach again.
When I found the note, I hid it from Her. I didn't want Her to be angry with me. When She found it She hugged me. She has a habit of doing that. It was a cautious hug, and a short one. She barely made eye contact. She looked like she was going to cry again. She pointed me to the armory. On my way out, I could hear her knees hit the floor, followed by sniffling.
When We came back, She hugged Us both so tight I was sure We would suffocate. Part of me wished We did. She saw to that We were taken to hospital, that We were taken care of, that We were safe, just like She always did.
I had come back changed, but she would always stay the same. With open arms and all the care in the world, She was my safety. The safety that I hadn't had since before He broke down, the safety I lost with It, the safety I craved with Them, the safety that We couldn't defend anymore.
And I thank her for that

Rating all Daisy ships I stanned at some point:
Skyward - 4/10
The year before I knew the truth was some of the best times I had as a fangirl. Shipped them while I was watching the show on TV. I was obsessed with them. But I missed the final few episodes. Oops. What could go wrong. So one time I googled the show to see if they got together, and that's how I found out Ward was Hydra. Looking back at it, it was an incredible reveal. Still, it broke my 14 year old heart. The pain of finding out the truth almost made me never wanna watch it again. (for 5 min) I'll admit I was hooked on the Framework storyline too.
StaticQuake 11/10
But wanna know why I started watching it again? Luke Mitchell. I was uninterested that "Skye" had another dude, but when I checked the character out, he was played by WILL from H20? It was the greatest thing I ever found out. I'll never forget you Lincoln. I almost passed out when he died. He loved her so much. In later seasons when everyone was paired off but Daisy had no one, I kept thinking of him. He was one of the only characters who selflessly always put her first. He deserved better. And I gotta go higher than 10 cause he literally died for her.
Quakerider - 9/10
I was stuck on this ship for 4 years, and I was working off of maybe 8 episodes of content. I was obsessed, with all capital letters. I should have tattooed it on my forehead. And they left me hanging. They had so much chemistry, it was insane. This man was looking at her like she was his lifeline. But they pulled Gabriel Luna away from the show for the unreleased spinoff and, we never saw Robbie again. RIP to the most iconic romance I never got to experience.
Dousy - 100/10
Whoever decided to pull this man from the past to get him together with our girl, deserves an Emmy. There is nothing like a proper-looking, nerdy man who's down for every criminal offense you want to pull. But also they had a great flirt-to-roast ratio.
"Every time."
"Some of my favorite people are people like you."
"There are unfashionable squares in every decade, so you fit right in."
"You should probably put a Q on your utility belt so people know it's you."
"We are going home, Agent Johnson."
"I can take a loop."
Just that pure devotion was fire. Also when you realize they are actually what the other always wanted in a partner? Daisy goes from Miles, Ward to Lincoln looking for stability and solid partnership, and manages to find it super unconventionally. I'll never stop yapping about them. No second of their screen time was wasted, which is why I think this worked so well.

Yeehaw! Queer Western Book Recs!
Tumblr media
What’s the occasion? There is no occasion! We just thought it’d be fun to make a list of queer cowboy/girl/enby books and westerns! Say “Howdy, pardner” to our 8 picks. The contributors to this list are: Shadaras, Meera S., hullosweetpea, Nina Waters, boneturtle, and two anonymous contributors.
American Hippo (River of Teeth series) by Sarah Gailey
Years ago, in an America that never was, the United States government introduced herds of hippos to the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This plan failed to take into account some key facts about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two.
By the 1890s, the vast bayou that was once America’s greatest waterway belongs to feral hippos, and Winslow Houndstooth has been contracted to take it back. To do so, he will gather a crew of the damnedest cons, outlaws, and assassins to ever ride a hippo. American Hippo is the story of their fortunes, their failures, and his revenge.
Done and Dusted (Rebel Blue Ranch series) by Lyla Sage
She’s off-limits, but he’s never been good at following the rules.
For the first time in her life, Clementine “Emmy” Ryder has no idea what she’s doing. She’s accomplished everything on her to-do list. She left her small hometown of Meadowlark, Wyoming; went to college; and made a career for herself by doing her favorite thing: riding horses. But after an accident makes it impossible for her to get back into the saddle, she has no choice but to return to the hometown she always wanted to escape.
Luke Brooks is Meadowlark’s most notorious bad boy, bar owner, and bachelor. He’s also the unofficial fifth member of the Ryder family. As Emmy’s older brother’s best friend, Luke spent most of his childhood antagonizing her. It’s been years since he’s seen her, but when she walks into his bar and back into his life, he can’t take his eyes off her. Despite his better judgment, he wants to do a whole lot more than just look at her.
Emmy’s got too much on her mind to think about romance. And Luke knows he should stay away from his best friend’s younger sister. But what if Luke is just what Emmy needs to get her spark back? Or will they both go up in flames?
Outlawed by Anna North
The day of her wedding, 17 year old Ada’s life looks good; she loves her husband, and she loves working as an apprentice to her mother, a respected midwife. But after a year of marriage and no pregnancy, in a town where barren women are routinely hanged as witches, her survival depends on leaving behind everything she knows.
She joins up with the notorious Hole in the Wall Gang, a band of outlaws led by a preacher-turned-robber known to all as the Kid. Charismatic, grandiose, and mercurial, the Kid is determined to create a safe haven for outcast women. But to make this dream a reality, the Gang hatches a treacherous plan that may get them all killed. And Ada must decide whether she’s willing to risk her life for the possibility of a new kind of future for them all.
Prize Money by Celeste Castro
Eva is saved from impending disaster by a tall, dark, and handsome bullfighter–a woman. Toma Rozene is an equestrian stuntwoman fresh off the set of a blockbuster film when a family emergency calls her home to help run the family business: rescuing fallen rodeo riders before blustering bulls and bucking broncos trample their dreams. Eva and Toma’s shared passions and competitive spirits make friendship easy, but, as their feelings deepen, they must decide if the divergent futures they seek will stand in the way of love.
Wake of Vultures (The Shadow series) by Lila Bowen
Nettie Lonesome lives in a land of hard people and hard ground dusted with sand. She’s a half-breed who dresses like a boy, raised by folks who don’t call her a slave but use her like one. She knows of nothing else. That is, until the day a stranger attacks her. When nothing, not even a sickle to the eye can stop him, Nettie stabs him through the heart with a chunk of wood and he turns to black sand.
And just like that, Nettie can see.
But her newfound sight is a blessing and a curse. Even if she doesn’t understand what’s under her own skin, she can sense what everyone else is hiding—at least physically. The world is full of evil, and now she knows the source of all the sand in the desert. Haunted by the spirits, Nettie has no choice but to set out on a quest that might lead her to find her true kin . . . if the monsters along the way don’t kill her first.
Trigun: Deep Space Planet Future Gun Action!! by Yasuhiro Nightow
Somehow the past has placed a sixty billion double dollar bounty on Vash’s head, and the gunslinging pacifist can’t seem to get away from money grubbing, itchy-trigger-finger citizenry. Find out why Vash is worth so much money dead! Feel the clumsy worry of the unfortunate citizens of the pulverous planet! Follow the follies of an unlikely hero in a forbidding world! Join Vash the Stampede – with his troubled past and an uncanny ability to dodge a gazillion bullets – and a cavalcade of unlucky characters on a dusty, desert planet in the distant future.
Frontera by Julio Anta
As long as he remembers to stay smart and keep his eyes open, Mateo knows that he can survive the trek across the Sonoran Desert that will take him from Mexico to the United States. That is until he’s caught by the Border Patrol only moments after sneaking across the fence in the dead of night.
Escaping their clutches comes at a price, and lost in the desert without a guide or water, Mateo is ill-prepared for the unforgiving heat that is sure to arrive come sunrise. With the odds stacked against him, his one chance at survival may be putting his trust in something, or rather someone, that he isn’t even sure exists.
If you’d asked him if ghosts were real before he found himself face-to-face with one, Mateo wouldn’t have even considered it. But now, confronted with the nearly undeniable presence of Guillermo, he’s having second thoughts. Having spent his afterlife guiding migrants to safety, Guillermo knows things about the Sonoran Desert far beyond what could be explained by a mere hallucination. But even as Mateo forms an uneasy partnership with Guillermo, survival is still uncertain.
The Sonoran Desert, with its hostile temperatures and inhabitants, is teeming with danger as the Border Patrol, rogue militias, and animals prowl its deadly terrain. As his journey stretches on, Mateo will have to decide exactly what and who he’s willing to sacrifice to find home.
Bitter Springs by Laura Stone
In 1870s Texas, Renaldo Valle Santos, the youngest son of a large and traditional family, has been sent to train with Henry “Hank” Burnett, a freed slave and talented mesteñero—or horse-catcher—so he may continue the family horse trade. Bitter Springs is a sweeping epic that takes themes from traditional Mexican literature and Old Westerns to tell the story of a man coming into his own and realizing his destiny lies in the wild open spaces with the man who loves him, far from expectations of society.
Bonus Recs:

Together with an ever-expanding train of fantastical tagalongs, Samir and his new friends venture deep into the bowels of the canyon to find a way out of the magical boundary that imprisons all who cross it.

Hsmtmts headcanons i would like to think that the og cast got along with the wildcats
thank you for the ask! I did another post about this a couple of months ago but let's see how my feelings have changed and if I can come up with some new ones...
I also would like to think that the og cast got along with the wildcats! I think that alyson reed (who played Mrs Darbus) became a huge mentor for Gina and helped her out, as well as Ashlyn. I can definitely see Lucas grabeel (aka Ryan) teaching Frankie some jazz squares and teaching him and Seb everything he knows. Monique Coleman, aka Taylor, definitely becomes a huge inspiration for Kourtney and continues to be a really good big sister/second mom for. and I think Bart johnson (who played Troy's dad) became a sort of fatherly figure for all of them, especially for the ones who didn't really get that kind of attention that they require. he takes Emmy out for ice cream all the time before finishing the movie to make up for her being cut and remembers everyone's birthdays.
the show they put on for the spring musical has to be the greatest showman. I stole this idea from someone else and ever since I cannot imagine anything more perfect to send Ricky and Kourtney out with a bang. obviously we have Ricky as Phillip and Gina as Anne, and I think jet could play pt Barnum and dani could play his wife. I think Ashlyn could play Lettie and Kourtney could play Jenny Lind, Emmy could be one of pt's kids, Carlos could play the general small guy, and Seb (since he has to come back, right?) could play Anne's brother. honestly I have no idea if that works but I could totally see Kourtney nailing "never enough" and Ashlyn absolutely slaying "this is me." or maybe even the roles could be reversed! I could see ash doing "never enough" and kourt doing "this is me"! but I think Ricky and Gina would be so amazing doing "rewrite the stars" with their amazing chemistry and lovely singing voices.
honestly I headcanon that there's another freshmen student who joins the theater club and becomes a really good friend to Emmy. I always feel bad that she's so young and really doesn't have that many friends and is the only one on the young side, so there's a theater girl (or boy!) who transfers mid year and is an amazing singer and actor who plays pt barnum's other kid in the musical
i read a fanfic where Ricky and Gina secretly adopt a golden retriever while they're still in school and honestly it was one of the funniest and most rina things EVER. I definitely think they do this and struggle to hide the poor puppy from Gina's mom and Ricky's dad, but eventually they find out. Ricky's dad is totally cool with it, actually, he just wishes Ricky would have told him about it sooner. to no one's surprise, Gina's mom FLIPS. OUT. she grounds Gina for two months and takes away all cell phone, television, and computer privileges, restricting her free time so when she's not doing chores or her homework she is sitting in her room reading. she even puts locks on the window so Ricky can't sneak in! also to no one's surprise, Ricky figures out how to pick locks so he can sneak in to see his not so secret sweetheart. it's the longest two months of their lives but afterwards they're back and better than ever! oh, and they name the dog Romeo. and when they're older and actually moved out of their parents houses they buy another golden retriever puppy and name her Juliet.
ricky gets the role of Romeo in the movie "Romeo and Juliet" after Mack leaves. Quinn doesn't even have to think about her decision; immediately after "love you forever" and before the wildcats go to Denny's she pulls him aside and says "that took guts. you are so in love with that girl you don't even know what to do with yourself. what are you going to do all day while she's filming a movie? oh, but you don't say anything, because I have a proposition for you. your chemistry is so amazing, so natural, so artistic, that I would like to extend an offer for you to replace Mack in the movie and play the Romeo to Gina's Juliet." and obviously Ricky says yes without even hesitating, and then later realizes he should have thought about it but doesn't want to back down and let Gina down so he sticks with it. the movie ends up breaking a dozen box office records and Gina's career skyrockets as a result, as well as Ricky's music career, since he helped with the music and songs as well.
mack and Gina end up becoming good friends, and Mack and Ricky are even able to get past all the awkwardness of the past and be friendly to each other. Mack moves to salt lake to try and kickstart "mark and spark" again and he babysits Romeo all the time - even uses the dog in the eventual tv show as his Spark.
nini comes back to salt lake over the summer and reconnects with her old friends before her eventual tour in the fall, as she's become a quick rising singing sensation. she is elated that Ricky and Gina are actually together and harbors no hard feelings at all towards the pair. however, it's still hecka awkward between her and Ricky until Ricky reveals he wrote a song all about his feelings of hurt he has towards his ex and nini reveals that she did the same. after they play each other the songs, the two agree to try and be friends again and end up becoming almost as close as they used to be (I NEED rini friendship, they weren't good as a couple but like I just want them to be friends again 😕😕)
the wildcats return to camp shallow lake over the summer and put on a production of some obscure musical chosen by miss Jenn that no one has ever heard of before. of course, it's a smash hit and everyone becomes even more popular
Kourtney graduates top of her class and her valedictorian speech goes down in history as one of the greatest speeches ever performed at a high school graduation. she has the whole crowd in the palm of her hand and makes EVERYONE cry
ashlyn throws a raging good ol' times party at her house after graduation to celebrate Ricky and Kourtney and even ej comes back to celebrate
speaking of ej, he changes his major to become a teacher and winds up back at east high to become the new sports athletic coordinator. the football team has six successive playoff wins in a row under coach ej (since he refuses to go by his last name). he ends up marrying Val later on and the two have a bunch of adorable kids
ash and Maddox end up buying camp shallow lake from Dewey wood when he gets too old and they build a permanent cabin for them and their eventual family: a bunch of tumbling, amazing, singing redheads
ricky and Gina, as I mentioned before, have two goldens and at least two kids. maybe just the one. I imagine Ricky as a girl dad, because he's such a simp, and the two little girls have the most beautiful curls and are a perfect mix of their parents. Ricky is a musician but he also gets a minor in education, so he ends up becoming a music teacher/theater teacher when he's a little older and his girls need a little more stability. Gina is still a movie star and even though her schedule is crazy, she can always come home to Ricky and her puppies and her girls. that's one thing she can count on: forever.
anyways, that's all that I have for now! thank you for the wonderful ask 😚 if anyone else has any asks, headcanons, etc about marvel, hsmtmts, zombies, hunger games, pjo, and probably many others 😅 feel free to ask! my ask box is always open 😎

Tumblr media
From Playbill's website: "Created by the Emmy®-winning writer from “Schitt’s Creek,” this hilarious new musical flips the script on the greatest love story ever told. & Juliet asks: what would happen next if Juliet didn’t end it all over Romeo? Get whisked away on a fabulous journey as she ditches her famous ending for a fresh beginning and a second chance at life and love—her way.
Juliet’s new story bursts to life through a playlist of pop anthems as iconic as her name, including Since U Been Gone‚ Roar, Baby One More Time, Larger Than Life‚ That’s The Way It Is, and Can't Stop the Feeling—all from the genius songwriter/producer behind more #1 hits than any other artist this century. Break free of the balcony scene and get into this romantic comedy that proves there’s life after Romeo. The only thing tragic would be missing it."

From Playbill: "What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn. Shucked is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life. Shucked is about to turn Broadway on its ear and offer a kernel of hope for our divided nation."

From Playbill: "Marty McFly is a rock ‘n’ roll teenager who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown. But before he can return to 1985, Marty must make sure his high school-aged parents fall in love in order to save his own existence."
Tumblr media
From Playbill: "Based on the award-winning HBO documentary, How to Dance in Ohio is a heart-filled new musical exploring the need to connect and the courage it takes to step out into the world. At a group counseling center in Columbus, Ohio, seven autistic young adults prepare for a spring formal dance–a rite of passage that breaks open their routines and sets off hilarious and heartbreaking encounters with love, stress, excitement, and independence. How to Dance in Ohio is a story about people standing on the cusp of the next phase of their lives, facing their hopes and fears, ready to make a very big first move…and dance."
Tumblr media
From Playbill: "Lovingly ripped from the film classic, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot has everything that makes a great knight at the theatre, from flying cows to killer rabbits, British royalty to French taunters, dancing girls, rubbery shrubbery, and of course, the lady of the lake."

36 years ago today, Billboard magazine announced that Whitney’s soulful ballad, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”, had replaced Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” as the number one single in the country.
In doing so, Whitney set an all-time chart record that stands to this day when she became the first artist in music history to produce seven consecutive number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
The historic chart record started when the quiet storm-styled rendition of “Saving All My Love for You” reached number one for the week of October 26, 1985, replacing a-ha’s iconic “Take on Me” and becoming the then 22-year-old singer’s first-ever number one hit and later won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Later on, her stirring Grammy performance of the same song won her an Emmy Award for Best Individual Performance in a Variety or Musical Program in September 1986.
Less than five months later, on February 15, 1986, Whitney scored her second number one single on the Hot 100 with her funky dance number, “How Will I Know”, enjoying a two-week stay. It replaced cousin Dionne Warwick’s “That’s What Friends Are For” at the top, making it the first time in eight years that an artist replaced a relative at number one since the Bee Gees’ “Night Fever” replaced little brother Andy Gibb’s “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water”. It’s notable for having originally been offered by a then-struggling teenage R&B singer named Janet Jackson who turned it down and also for the song’s colorful music video helping Whitney break the color barrier for black female artists on MTV as it became the first black female video to instantly reach heavy rotation on the channel within the first week of its airing in late December 1985. Before then, Whitney had struggled to get on the channel due to being told she was “too R&B”. She eventually earned light rotation play for her hit ballad “Saving All My Love for You”, which set up the universal acceptance for “How Will I Know”, which later won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video. Though other artists such as Donna Summer and Tina Turner had enjoyed medium to heavy rotation prior to Whitney’s arrival, it was nothing compared to “How Will I Know”, ushering in the new era of black female-dominated pop music. It also became Whitney’s first pop anthem.
On May 17, 1986, Whitney’s third number one single, “Greatest Love of All” reached number one, replacing Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls” at number one and staying there for three consecutive weeks. In doing so, it marked the first time a female solo artist had took three singles to number one off a single album. The ballad later won a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year at the 1987 Grammys. The song, which Whitney began performing as a teenager after coming up second place in a statewide talent show losing to a girl who sang that song, was an early signature song for her. It remained her favorite of her hit singles.
On June 27, 1987, Whitney once again entered the history books when the frenetic dance number, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”, topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a two-week stay, replacing Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam’s Motown-inspired freestyle hit “Head to Toe”. On that same day, her second album, Whitney, which accompanied the dance anthem, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, first by a female artist in history. The song would go on to be Whitney’s second best selling single of her career, selling over 14 million physical and digital units worldwide and would win Whitney the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It is also notable for having been streamed over a billion times on the popular streaming app Spotify.
On September 19, 1987, Whitney once again made history when the second single from Whitney, the orchestrated soft rock ballad, “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, replaced Michael Jackson’s own soft rocker, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, a duet with singer Siedah Garrett, at the top for a two-week stay. This accomplishment tied her with Elvis Presley for having five consecutive number one hits in a row on the Hot 100, a record at the time for a solo artist.
Whitney then shocked everyone on January 9, 1988, when the uptempo rocker “So Emotional” replaced George Michael’s “Faith” to enjoyed a week long tenure atop the chart. In doing so, Whitney broke Elvis’ solo chart record, which put her in a three-way tie with the Beatles and the Bee Gees for the most consecutive number one singles in a row with six. Thus setting up the impossible task of earning a seventh number one. Leading to…
When “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” hit number one on April 23, 1988, she broke the tie with the Beatles and Bee Gees to become the all-time leader of consecutive number one singles, a record that nearly five decades later still holds and is unlikely to break.

#1 M*A*S*H
Plot: A group of surgeons, nurses and other staff at a mobile army surgical hospital during the korean war (1950-1953) uses humor to battle through daylong passes in the OR. Laughs are mixed with deadly seriousness as the characters fall in and out of love and inhale one or two moonshine gins. It's one of the most succesfull tv-series of all time, with 14 Emmy awards and the last episode was watched by 121 milion people, still the most watched episode of a tv-series. The series is a spin off the 1970's movie with the same name, based on the book, based on a true story.
Years: 1972-1983
Seasons: 11
My story: I'm definitely not old enough to be alive when this aired the first time, but when I was a kid in Sweden in the early 2000's M*A*S*H aired late every weekday. When I was old enough to be up that late I started watching it with my parents and was hooked from the beginning. It was the highlight of the day.
Teachable moments: Over the seasons M*A*S*H became more and more serious, with several lessons about compassion, peace and the cruelty of war. I'd dare to say that M*A*S*H had one of the greatest impacts on how I see the world, how people work, think and act. The episodes with Sidney Freedman dealing with patients with PTSD, suicidal behaviour and other desperate measures that war drives into people at war, are so important.
Best character: This is definitely a hard one, but I have to say Hawkeye. M*A*S*H wouldn't be M*A*S*H without him and his complicated persona is what drives the story at all times. It helps that Alan Alda is an amazing actor and a wonderful person. My tip is to check out his current podcast Clear and vivid, about communication in the 21st century.
Best episode: With 256 to chose from, this is very hard. The last episode "Goodbye, farewell and amen" will always have a special place in my heart, it's definitely the best last episode of a series ever made. But also, "Point of view" from season 7 is a beutifully and groundbreaking made tv-episode where we get to follow the plot from the patient's perspective.
Best quote: "There are certain rules about a war. And rule number one is young men die. And rule number two is doctors can't change rule number one." Henry Blake to Hawkeye in "Sometimes you hear the bullet" (season 1).
Fun fact: Only four characters stayed for all 11 seasons; Hawkeye, Margaret "Hot lips" Houlihan, Maxwell Klinger and Father Mulcahy. The later was played amazingly by William Christopher, but not in the pilot where he was played by George Morgan.
If you like this you might also like: The obvious tips are the original movie from 1970 and the spinoff After MASH from 1983. But also other contemporary comedies, like Cheers and Golden Girls.

open letter to ems (part iii) — @officialjimmybuffett
Hey bitch. Happy birthday.
It’s June 21st, 2023. Your birthday is not in a while, a long, long while. But I want to say I love you because I know no person who…update it’s October 23, I have no idea what I was going to say, but I thought the sentiment was noble, even if it was incomplete. Just know that on June 21st you did something that made me remind myself that I love you and that I’m glad you exist in my life. Maybe that could be enough.
I carry no poetry and no string of pretty words that could explain this concept further. Have fun with the least competent paragraph I’ve ever written.
It’s December 15th, if you don’t mind. I’d like to restart this letter with a new opener. Here we go, drumroll please:
🥁
🥁
🥁
Dear Emma,
We met on the beachside, did you know that?
At least, in my version, we did. That’s why every time I think of you I imagine the hot summer breeze and the waves crashing by my windows (one day, when we’re both old enough to afford to know each other, I’ll let you sleep in the bed where I met you and when you wake up we can get ice cream cups and make henna tattoos — just remember to put on sunscreen (you’re ginger you will probably need it).
When I was a child, my grandmother gave me my first notebook, in the cover there was this girl with pink hair surrendered by a neon city. The first story I ever wrote was about her. It had two sentences. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've never finished a story in my life. What was the first story you’ve ever written? Did you ever finish yours? It’s weird to think that, somehow, that notebook brought me closer to you.
I’ve been to New York two times, New Jersey once, just to eat a red velvet cupcake in Carlos Bakery…do you think our cars passed by each other?
Today (April 10th), everything that is supposed to go right goes slightly wrong, and I rather blame mercury’s positioning in the astros than my own incompetence. There was an eclipse in America and I missed it. I am exhausted just from my existence. Sometimes I think you are the cure for my sorrows, other times I am certain of it.
Update: it’s not mercury, it’s iron. I haven't eaten meat in 3 days. You sent me a message telling me to eat meats, I send you a message back saying I'm letting a guy with a rifle and motorcycle call me angel. Maybe there is no better way to describe our dynamic. Maybe if we met in another life, which I am pretty sure we did, I’d still be running around in chaos, and you will still be the savior from my demise.
If we were characters in a show, I know people would ship us together— two deck swabs in the crumbling ship, two vampires hiding in an old theatre, a soldier and a scientist turning blue to save a planet that isn’t their own— then they’d make YouTube compilations of our funny moments (“yah?” “…yeah”). Dare I say, we would be the best characters, Emmy nominations for both our actresses (I’ll let yours take the prize though).
I love you, Em. I send my love to you. And you send it back round to me.
Yeah. I won’t be watching the show. But that’s a pretty fire line, a pretty fire delivery too.
There’s no other version of this story, by the way. At least, not for me. There is no other version of me that is content with a life that doesn’t involve you, that doesn’t, in its own way, revolve around you and your phantomly existence, even if you are always destined to be in the other side of the world, even if the closest thing I’ve ever gotten to your hands were reaching them in my dreams. You are my ghost. My angel. My protector.
It is my biggest privilege (and my greatest sorrow) to be haunted by you.
written in purple glitter ink and with a love that overflows my heart and pours over every word ever written,
lui
p.s every statue in Vienna reminds me of you. there is no other explanation. you are what I think of when I think of art.

"I have mad respect for athletes and have penned a few songs with more to give all the way around," says my friend, singer, and songwriter Cindy Mizelle.
Cindy Mizelle is the proud mother of three children. Her two sons are professional athletes. Devin Fuller, a wide receiver with the Atlanta Falcons, and Jordan Fuller, a safety for the Carolina Panthers, have had distinguished careers in the NFL.
Her incredible career includes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Seeger Sessions Band, Steely Dan, Billy Ocean, Whitney Houston, Dave Matthews, Duran Duran, Freddie Jackson,  Carly Simon, Alicia Keys, and Luther Vandross.
Cindy told Rolling Stone Magazine that growing up, she knew a singing career was in her future, "I just said, "I know how to do this." I played the flute, too, and I knew scales. Everything was a musical thing for me. And once I found that power, I was like, "I'm going!"
I met Cindy on Luther Vandross's Never Let Me Go tour in 1993. Cindy toured and recorded with Luther Vandross for over twenty years. She admits working with Luther felt like family. "I loved everything about him. I could relax and be myself, and he was so supportive. When it came down to my kids, he got them their first shoes."
Between gigs with Luther Vandross and the Rolling Stones, Cindy managed to squeeze the recording of her debut album, Cindy Mizelle, on Atlantic Records. My favorite tracks include the lead single, "I've Had Enough," "Smile, and "Back To Emotions."
Through Cindy, I met the talented performer Katreese Barnes, who was the musical director for SNL and won an Emmy for 'Dick In The Box." I styled Katreese for several shoots and co-produced her show, Rocket Man, featuring the music by Elton John.
A few years later, in 1995, Cindy gave me the gift of a lifetime when she sang lead vocals on the dance song I co-wrote with Keith Haarmeyer, "That Man Of Mine." The fantastic Brenda White-King also performed backing vocals on the record.
I'll always remember the day we recorded the song in Keith's one-bedroom apartment in New York City. After Cindy looked at the lyrics sheet, she asked me if I had a specific idea of how I'd like her to sing the lyrics. Then, to my astonishment, she said the chorus line five or six different ways, varying her tone and phrasing with each variation. It was the most incredible thing I've ever witnessed. I still have goosebumps thinking about it. The power and control she has with her voice are great, too.
I'm not Cindy's only fan, either. In her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah Carey praises Cindy Mizelle: "To me, she was one of the absolute greatest. "Cindy Mizelle was the background singer. She sang with the most gifted vocalists of all time—Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and the Rolling Stones. She was a real singer's singer. Cindy was that girl to me. I looked up to her so much.
It was also a thrill for me to design costumes for The Lovely Ladies (Tawatha Agee, Brenda, and Cindy) when they were on tour with Dave Matthews Band. Most recently, my boyfriend Joe and I filmed Cindy for Nils Lofgren's "Ain't The Truth Enough" music video.
Music is part of her DNA. Cindy Mizelle is the cousin of the famous Mizell Brothers (they dropped the word "e" out of their name), who wrote songs for the Jackson 5 and A Taste of Honey. She's also the cousin of the Ronettes. She told Rolling Stone magazine, "I looked them up and was like, "Oh, my gosh!" That was my motivation there. I'd play their records and figure out what they did. I started singing in the basement and in bands after that."
She mentions how Ronnie Spector always supported her in her career. It's a pleasure to spotlight this remarkable woman whose heart is as big and beautiful as her voice.
