Aether extended his arm the way he’d done it countless times before. Albedo tried to avoid thinking about how cold it would seem from an outsider perspective, but Aether’s visits always started with the alchemist running a few ‘simple tests’ on him first and foremost. So, when Albedo traced his fingers against the length of Aether’s forearm, supposedly searching for a vein of the appropriate size, it was nothing more than a formality. After all, Albedo had repeated this process enough times to be able to locate any of Aether’s veins with his eyes closed.

It was also a bit of a selfish gift to himself. A way to secretly steal an extra dose of warmth and physical touch from his lover. But Albedo would never admit to his self-indulgence.

He pressed the needle against the spot where Aether’s vein widened, and pushed in. Aether hissed. Feeling pain from getting a simple blood sample taken was such a mundane thing it was a little humorous to think it happened even to their Honorary Knight.

How very human of him.
