Take some fine scotchbrite pads (from Home Depot or B&Q, depending on which side of the pond you're on), and run it aound the inside if you feel anything sharp.

You will probably want some lubrication around the cuff ring and the inside of the cage. I recommend a heavy hand cream like Gold Bond, Nivea, Aquaphor, etc. The creams will pick up skin oils, sweat, bits of urine, etc., so you want something that will wash out easily with hot water in a shower. I do not recommend vaseline because of how difficult it will be to clean.

If your cage has one of those cheap brass barrel locks, you may need to lightly sand down the top edges that won't usually be covered by the cage flange. Unfortunately, even the better cages often use poor quality locks. You might want to buy one (or even to have a spare) from the Holy Trainer site, or from Amazon where you can find the original Burg Wachter ME/2 style barrel locks.
