Same song, so many performances. Every one a cracker.

And this is such a clever edit. Jaw drop and standing ovation from me.

Mostly sharing it because this song on loop is going to fuel me through a long one today…

Also I love the particular live audio recording they used (Wembley) because a little bit more of the beloved-feral-guitar-pixie’s Devon accent sneaks out than it does on studio recordings and you get more of a sense of the amount of ENERGY that goes into it.

(Also I was at that one. And I think at least two of the other gigs featured in the edit. Theoretically I will be responsible for a pixel or two in at least one of the crowd shots and that makes me smile)

One song that really shows that [mystery] is on the second album, a song called “Space Dementia.” I always wanted to make a heavy rock song that could just have a piano without a guitar. I think we got there again on “Butterflies and Hurricanes” on the new album [Absolution]. I was trying to find a classical type of piano style that would be heavy and work with bass and drums. It had that sort of mechanical paradiddle thing all the way through, and then it breaks down into this kind of romantic, flowing weird bit in the middle.

Taking kiddo to her first muse concert on Friday!!!

So, obviously, perusing videos of past performances and bouncing happily. Wembley you say? Oh we were there rocking our youthful faces off…

There is just something about a band that, 4 mins into a rock song, goes all epic classical piano and then back again…

(Video is a rock concert so expect flashy and ludicrously jumpy camera transitions)

It was part of the whole concept to make it mechanical. I wrote it on the piano and originally, I didn’t know how we were going to get the bass and drums to work with it. Steve Reich did that kind of really intensive, repetitive piano stuff with his piece, “In C.” I wanted to do that and then break into a really emotional thing. It’s really about that, the contrast between the two bits. The challenge was getting it to work with the bass and drums.
