Had a minor health scare, and actually went in for a flu then Covid-19 test. Negative on both counts, but while I was in quarantine I had to file for FMLA, which among a few other things meant that I was not legally allowed to do anything related to the Splintersmith. My day job's draconian medical leave contract states that if any work is done for a different business - including a self-owned one - during the time of a medical leave, it would be taken as an indication that I was resigning from my position.⁣ ⁣ So, no updates. No work. Nothing. I wasn't going to give them an opening.⁣ ⁣ BUT now that I have the all clear I'm back in the shop. Got a dagger complete for @krisstraub (well, technically for K'Thriss Drow'b) of Acquisitions Incorporated: The 'C' Team. Working on Rosie Beestinger's Staff of the Master for @katewelchhhh, but it's got a lot more moving parts and there's a certain amount of time needed between steps.⁣ ⁣ Also made another cutting board, check out my IG story.⁣ ⁣ Feels good to be back at it! ⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ Please leave feedback and critiques in the comments!⁣ ⁣ If you like this and want to see more stuff like it, click the link in my bio to follow more Splintersmith social media.⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ Want to win a cool pen? Part 3 (split up for emphasis)⁣ ⁣ #Toothbrush is complete!⁣ ⁣ This piece was a huge challenge (pun intended), and one which I'm very glad to have taken on. I learned some new things with this build, and therefore grew as a craftsman. That experience is invaluable.⁣ ⁣ Over 6 ft long, this sword has a poplar blade (chosen for its relatively light weight), osage orange crossguard and pommel (in keeping with the character theme), and leopardwood scales on a full tang grip. The blade features five spikey "bristles" on the spine, a curved edge, and a little dragon-shaped tooth pommel. It's sealed with my usual beeswax and grapeseed oil mix.⁣ ⁣ It took me pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday to build this thing. There's footage of the build that I'll be editing down and posting to YouTube soon. Meanwhile, here are some pictures!⁣ ⁣ Now I just have to get the money to ship it cross-country. I took it in today and they told me like double what the estimate was. So, uh, if anyone wants to order any commissions, now is the time!⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ Please leave feedback and critiques in the comments!⁣ ⁣ If you like this and want to see more stuff like it, click the link in my bio to follow more Splintersmith social media.⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ Want to win a cool pen? Plus, Wednesdays are Pensdays, when I post a timelapsed video of a pen being made. And on Splintersmith Sundays, I'll livestream a new project being made start-to-finish!⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ #woodgoods #wooden #wood #woodworking #woodart #woodensword #woodworker #woodporn #wooddesign #handmade #woodworkersofinstagram #acqinc #cteam #thecteam #molpy #dnd #dungeonsanddragons #rpg #tabletop #bigsword #bustersword #dragonborn #donaar #fanart #butitswood⁣ https://www.instagram.com/p/B72SppMAmRE/?igshid=qiw3n5zgp675

STORYTIME.⁣ ⁣ Y'all may remember that I made a wooden scimitar with a leaf motif - named #Foremother - a while back. (It was one of my top 9 posts last year, so I know some of y'all saw it.)⁣ ⁣ Anyway, that was for @amytfalcone, a player on a D&D podcast/Twitch Stream I love called the "C" Team. When I sent it, I wrote a note apologizing for omitting the other players' weaponry, explaining that this one was all that made sense to me, since it's an organically-grown sword in the game. (D&D is good time)⁣ ⁣ Anyway, they read the note during a stream, and @r_hartman24 - who plays the enormous Dragonborn - goes "you coulda made a wooden Toothbrush." (Toothbrush is the enormous Dragon Man's equally enormous sword.)⁣ ⁣ Fuck it. Challenge accepted. The Toothbrush cometh.⁣ ⁣ Got the blade fully cut and beveled today. Given the added difficulties of a Giant Fucking Sword, plus those spikey bits, that's saying a lot. Tomorrow is the Crossguard, handle, pommel, and final assembly. Which is all way more like what I'm used to. 👌⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ Please leave feedback and critiques in the comments!⁣ ⁣ If you like this and want to see more stuff like it, click the link in my bio to follow more Splintersmith social media.⁣ ⁣ ▪▪▪⁣ ⁣ Want to win a cool pen?
