Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Took the kids to bute park lights and safe to say they didn't really like it!! They loved the food village at the start but that was about it. Neco got himself covered in mud after about 0.4 seconds of be there and was completely unhappy about it. Ape, bless her, was trying to be good but after 10 mins of walking (max) just lost the will amd complain the whole way. She's wasn't too bad really and was super cute in the car coming home with me. I'm sorry dad, that was me, not you, I'm.sorry she said about something..nawww
Ape amd I stopped off in the castle on the way home and went on the ride and had a doughnut that was pretty nice.

Found lots of good mushrooms today - Bute Park, Cardiff, 22/10/2024 (Click 'keep reading' to see them all)
Starting with my favourite find of the day: Pink Waxcaps (Porpolomopsis calyptriformis)! Apparently these guys are relatively rare, but most common in the UK. They remind me of cherry blossoms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is a young one that has not fully opened into the beautiful flower-shape.
Tumblr media
Next is the pleasantly named Hairy Curtain Crust (Stereum hirsutum). This fallen log was absolutely covered in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These I believe are Butter Waxcaps (Hygrocybe ceracea) at various stages of development
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These come in a range of shades
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe these striking red mushrooms are Scarlet Waxcaps (Hygrocybe coccinea)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I won't lie, I'm having some difficulty identifying this one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Small brown mushrooms, maybe Brown Mottlegill (Panaeolus foenisecii)? I can honestly never tell with these things, didn't spend too much time looking at them. Cute nonetheless
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe Iodene Bonnet (Mycena filopes)?
Tumblr media
I almost missed this thang while walking, tiny little yellow tentacles. I believe they are young Golden Spindles (Clavulinopsis fusiformis)
Tumblr media
While my friend was climbing a tree I spotted these absolutely teensy little guys on it (my fingers for scale). They could be Frosty Bonnets (Mycena tenerrima) but were too tiny for me to see properly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These I actually saw these a few days ago and forgot to post about it, it was at night which is why this photo looks horrible. Think this is a rough looking Spindle Toughshank (Gymnopus fusipes)
Tumblr media
Finally, some friends of the non-fungal variety:
Carrion crows (Corvus corone)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grey Squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis)
Tumblr media
Thank you if you read until the end :) I'm not sure if I should be splitting these into shorter posts or not. Most of these fungi I found in a single field, and the rest were found by the surrounding trees. It's amazing how much biodiversity there is in such a small area.

Tuesday 15th December 1936 saw a meeting held in the Zoology Department of Glasgow University at which the University, the Zoological Society of Glasgow was founded.
The first proposal was to create a four-acre zoo within the Empire Exhibition held in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park in 1938, but this was rejected by the exhibition organisers. Late in 1938 the Society settled on the Calderpark estate just outwith the eastern city boundary but the outbreak of World War II prevented development of the estate.
Work started after the war at Calderpark and by 1947 the animals began to arriv, including Soay sheep from the island of St Kilda, owned by the President, as well as a representative collection of Scottish wildlife from his Bute estates. Dublin Zoo presented a pair of lion cubs. London Zoo loaned - and later donated - a pair of adult lions.
The sun shone, the crowds poured in and week by week the press reported new arrivals for the animal collection: ostriches, baboons, touracos, yaks and my favourite, well the description anyway, “ a non-swearing cockatoo !” In August, a pair of hyaenas were ' christened ' by Gracie Fields . In November four lion cubs, the first to be bred in the zoo, were born.
After the hey days of it’s early years the cracks began to show when the initial attendances fell, by the end of 1953, the bank overdraft was fast approaching the total assets of the Society. The outlook was bleak.
I won’t go into the years that follow, saving those details for other posts through the calendar, it’s opening in July 1947 and the sad closure in August 2003.

stop, please stop, just stop. you think as steve’s face contorts as he bites into the food.
everytime you talk with steve now it seems there's something new to complain about. something that you aren't doing well enough, or nancy does this a lot better than you do.
you'd spent two hours putting together the perfect dinner that you were so positive steve would love.
but, it's just not good enough.
he hums as he takes a bite, avoiding your stare. "you know, i had this at nancy's house one time-"
you drop your fork on your plate at that, aggressively standing and walking to your room. you slam the door behind you, doing your best to ignore the way steve's looking at you. like you're crazy.
you plop yourself on the bed, holding your head in your hands as you bute back the tears.
why are you not good enough for him?
steve knocks on the door softly, "sweetheart, what happened?" he asks. "go away!" you croak.
steve sighs, he ignores what your words and instead opens the door slowly. he sits next to you cautiously and pulls your hands away from your face.
he gently grasps your chin and forces you to look up at him. "what made you so angry?"
it's the way he says that with such a... melancholy tone that makes you snap.
you slap his hand away, "are you serious right now?" you cry, standing so your directly in front of him.
steves eyebrows furrow and his mouth opens like he's going to defend himself, but you don't let him.
"it's- nancy this, nancy that, nancy, nancy, nancy! it's all about nancy!" you yell. you feel hot, so so hot, and the way steves looking at you- like this is coming from no where- really does nothing to help the situation.
he scoffs out a laugh, "are- are you being serious?" he says, standing up as well so he's level with you.
but since he's taller it forces you to look up at him, and you suddenly feel small. "you're- you're being crazy right now!"
crazy.
he says, that you're being crazy.
you step back, unable to hold back the tears and they flow freely. "don't call me that!" you gasp, wiping away your tears with the backs of your hand.
steve wipes a hand over his face, pinching the bridge of his nose with a sigh, he pulls you into his arms and rocks you back and forth.
"look, i'm sorry, okay? let's just go finish dinner." he says, running a hand through his hair, and you wonder if you really were just being dramatic. because this steve- the one who holds you when you cry- that's the steve you know. that's the steve you love.
"okay." you say. steve smiles and kisses the crown of your head, taking your hand and leading you back to the table.
Tumblr media
your feet ache as you finally pile all your belongings into your car. your job at the local diner isn't the best, but it pays the bills.
you hum to the song that comes up on the radio as you drive, happy to just finally be able to go home to steve.
after your argument the other day he's really been trying, and there's not much else that you could ask from him.
your eyebrows furrow when you notice the car that's in the driveway. sometimes steve's mom visits, mostly because she feels bad for how she treated him as a child, but she let him have the house as a way to make up for it.
you park at the side of the street, a little annoyed that you'll have to walk farther to get the the front door, but mostly curious about who could be at the house.
you open the front door and take your shoes off and place them against the wall. walking towards the couch in the living room and dropping your bag down next to it, you’re about to call out for steve when you hear it.
"i just, i don't know.. i don't know if i still love her. she's just- she's been acting so crazy lately." steve sighs out.
"well, you know, maybe the relationship has run its course..." a woman's voice says, and you immediately begin to tear up when you realize who it is.
"are you fucking kidding me?" you laugh, and both steve and nancy jump at your sudden intrusion. steve's chair screeches harshly as he practically sprints towards you.
"y/n, baby, i thought you didn't get home for another hour-"
"i finished early." you spit.
"i think i should go..." nancy mumbles, doing her best to ignore your icy stare. she slips past you cautiously, and you watch as her and steve make eye contact.
"y/n..." steve mumbles, placing a hand on your arm in faux comfort.
"don't touch me!" you growl venomously, shouldering his hand off of you.
you walk to the kitchen sink, grabbing a cup and filling it with water. steve follows closely behind you, excuse after excuse tumbling from his lips.
"you have to admit y/n, lately things just haven't been the same between us-"
"so, your first thought is to run to nancy?" you laugh, taking a big gulp from your water. steve shakes his head, "no- i'm not saying that-"
“then what are you saying, huh? that i’m- i’m crazy, and you don’t know if you still love me? huh? is that what you’re saying?” you yell, steve squeezes his eyes shut, running a hand through his hair he sighs, “i didn’t mean that-”
your vision flashes with red as he continues to try and make excuses for himself, and your body feels like it’s moving on its own and you throw your water onto steve.
“fuck!” he yells as the liquid begins to seep through his clothes onto his skin. you bite your lip and place the cup in the sink, and slip past him as he stands still in shock.
you enter the bedroom and begin to pack your things, ignoring the tears that begin to form in your eyes.
steve enters the room less than a minute after you. “y/n- stop, stop packing, please." he sighs, attempting to stop you but you shove him away.
“you know what, steve. i’m just- i’m done. i’m sick and tired if trying to please you, and all you do is have a problem with it! so- so fuck you! i’m done with this. i’m done feeling like i’m fucking crazy!” you finally gasp out, chest rising and falling in rage.
steve’s mouth hangs open as he stammers to answer you, but your zipping up your bags before he can.
“i’m done with this, steve. have a good fucking life.” you say, slamming your door on your way out.
Tumblr media
i’d like to point out that i love nancy in the show, but i hate stancy. lol. anyway hope you liked this bc i sure didn’t

The Cass Review - A collective response from Aberystwyth
According to the census conducted in 2021 in Wales and England, approximately 17% of the population of Aberystwyth identifies with a non-heterosexual sexuality and a further 3% identify with a non-cisgender gender identity (rounded to the nearest whole). Neighbouring Llanbadarn Fawr had 7% and 1% respectively. It will come as little surprise then that the Aberystwyth area has had a strong reputation for being Wales’ most LGBT+ town - a reputation it has held since at least the 1980s. For comparison, in the same census, parts of Central Cardiff such as Cathays North, Cathays South and Bute Park, Plasnewydd and Cardiff Bay returned 11%, 11%, 12% and 11% respectively for non-heterosexual sexuality and 1%, 1%, 2% and 1% for non-cisgender gender identity respectively. Parts of Central Swansea such as Uplands, Brynmill and Central Swansea returned 7%, 9% and 8% for non-heterosexual sexuality respectively and 1% in all three areas for non-cisgender gender identity.
It’s no secret that Aberystwyth is regarded as Wales’ most LGBT+ town. As LGBT+ residents of this town - as students or locals - we wish to register our opposition to the implementation of the Cass Review into gender care in the United Kingdom.
At the time of writing, the Review only applies to England - having also been adopted pre-emptively by Scotland. However, it is our view that no matter where the recommendations of this review come into effect, it should be met with resistance on a number of grounds. These grounds include:
The Cass Review relied on an extremely flawed methodology which necessitated the dismissal of much of the available medical literature on transgender youth. This decision by the Cass Review was based on an extremely narrow, unscientifically sound set of criteria.
The Cass Review was primarily a review into the medical care of transgender children. However, the Review defines children as anyone 25 years old or younger - including many transgender adults aged 18 and above.
Testimonies and evidence from transgender people and allies of transgender people were discarded from the Cass Review. Conversely, testimonies and evidence from anti-transgender individuals or organisations were not discarded.
The methodology of the Cass Review was extremely flawed. It dismisses much of the available, current medical literature on transgender youth because of an insistence for the studies to have conducted a randomised controlled double-blind trial. This criteria is not only narrow, but betrays that the studies the Cass Review would consider valid evidence would require the unethical treatment of children to be carried out. A double-blind trial in the case of puberty blockers would involve some transgender children being allowed to take the blockers (which simply delay the onset of natural puberty until the child is certain about wanting to transition or not), while other transgender children would be given placebos in place of the blockers. But the double-blind specification means that neither the researchers nor transgender children would know if they had administered/received the actual medication or the placebo. This would constitute an extremely unethical experiment on children in these circumstances. Medical research on children in this manner is tightly controlled and generally only permitted in extreme circumstances, therefore the majority of pre-existing research on transgender youth does not involve randomised controlled double blind trials in the way which the Review has stipulated, leading to plenty of scientifically sound studies being thrown out. The Cass Review, in dismissing plenty of these scientifically sound studies, has created an impossible standard few, if any, current studies meet. As a result, this biases the conclusions of the Review from the outset.
The Cass Review’s redefinition of children as anyone aged 25 or younger has worrying ramifications going forward. The Review creates a precedent through which many legal adults can be stripped of autonomy - it alleges that people aged 25 and younger cannot consent to transitioning, and therefore do not have full bodily autonomy until they are over 25. The redefinition of child to anyone aged 25 or younger and the declaration that such people cannot consent to matters involving their own bodily autonomy is both a worrying and a dangerous assertion that could be used to remove Gillick Competence not only from transgender children, but from many other vulnerable people as well - pregnant children and adults under 25 who seek to have an abortion in any circumstance could be unable to access these crucial services if they could not legally consent, and many other areas of legality and rights in young people (such as the lowered minimum wage for children and young people currently in effect in England / the UK) could be affected by a redefinition of who constitutes a child in policy. The ramifications of this change, if it becomes a precedent, are incredibly grave for the legal and bodily autonomy of many thousands of children and adults under 25 living in this country.
Testimonies and evidence were called for as part of the Cass Review - from the transgender community and allies to individuals and organisations who oppose transgender healthcare. The testimonies and evidence from the former group were discarded, while the testimonies and evidence from the latter were not. This demonstrates a clear bias in the evidence retained in the review (as with the strict criteria for the medical studies) and as such it biases the review as a whole.
Because the trans-positive testimonies were removed from the Cass Review, the LGBT+ community of Aberystwyth has provided several testimonies against this Review in response to the anti-scientific manner in which it was carried out:
“The Cass Review scares me as an English under-25 trans adult living in the UK, as it claims that I should not be in control of my body or know what I want as a legal adult. There are also considerable methodological issues with this report that present biased findings (including discarding scientifically-sound studies that showed positive effects of transitioning and demanding unreasonably strict or unethical parameters from the studies applicable to the Review) to present an anti-trans message that is unfaithful to the literature it claims to oversee. The UK Government should not adopt policies on the basis of this ‘review’ if they recognise the grave importance of protecting the legal autonomy, safety, and health of all the transgender people living in the UK.”
-Ashton, he/him, Undergraduate Student at Aberystwyth University and committee member of PunkSoc
“As a transgender adult under 25, the ramifications of this review diminish the human rights of trans youth in the UK - such as the right to freedom of expression. This is a worrying and dangerous precedent which must be challenged”
-Luke, he/him, Postgraduate student at Aberystwyth University and creator of Prosiect Llyfr Enfys
“The review is cherry-picked and is dangerous for trans kids, it’ll be hurting and killing many people to delay transition”
- Echo, they/them
“Trans students need support now more than ever! Trans kids are needing support and their vital healthcare is imperative to keeping them alive”
- Tristan, he/him
It is hoped that through this letter we will be able to raise more awareness of our concerns regarding this Review and the far-reaching consequences its implementation will have not only on transgender healthcare, but in other areas as well. It is also hoped readers of this letter will be better informed to advocate on behalf of the LGBT+ community both here and outside of Aberystwyth.
The LGBT+ community of Aberystwyth

i like the scene of owen running in 'a day in the death' because the implication of him sprinting all the way from bute park to the bay in broad daylight implies a missing sequence where hes belting it thru cardiff town center at peak shopping times. trying to be moody or really just feel anything at all but he keeps tripping over buskers in silly costumes

Travelling west to the country of Wales
My partner and I usually celebrate special occasions by travelling. The end of June marks my birthday and we decided to travel all the way to the capital city of Wales, Cardiff.
Tumblr media
We arrived mid-day and as I'm writing this down in 2024, I'm trying to remember if we did have an itinerary for our two and a half days that we were there for but I really couldn't. It being my birthday, we obviously started with a nice café for brunch. I was definitely very much pleased with the one we found — the Coffee Barker.
Tumblr media
It's a charming café by day and then a buzzing bar at night. We already spent most of our morning there and I admittedly have taken way too many photos. A guilty pleasure, indeed. I would come back here every day if I could, honestly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After some good few hours, we decided to start walking. I personally believe that a good city must be explored by simply strolling around its streets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd like to say that I am more of a traveller rather than a tourist but I'd be lying if I claim it so. One of the things that truly interest me apart from getting to see new places and admiring the architecture is knowing a bit of its history. Before we went on this trip, I regrettably didn't know that Wales had another language completely different from England.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later that day we went to see the Cardiff Castle. There were a lot of fascinating details to see and learn inside the castle but I was really drawn to the Arab Room. Truly a masterpiece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day two: We took the bus to go to Cardiff Bay. Not very different from the London buses, although less busy definitely. Mainly, we strolled around the area and had our coffee at the Mermaid Quay. You can see the Pierhead here, the Wales Millenium Centre, and lots of places to eat. But this day we decided to go for a little boat tour. Highly recommended especially with the glorious sun out. How I wish I could've swam too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, we took the bus to go back to the city centre and we ended up walking along the National Museum of Cardiff. Somehow, we weren't able to go in. We decided to have lunch first instead but didn't manage to go back anymore. Thereafter, we went for another walk to go to the Bute Park and spent most of our afternoon lounging about and taking a nap whilst laying down on the grass. Perfect kind of weather to do so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day three: Our last day at this city. Definitely too quick. We had another late start to our day, had brunch al fresco in a nice café just beside the Wyndham Arcade. We were so happy the sun stayed for the entire three days that we were here. Maybe next time we could go outside the city. People have recommended the beaches and to go on hiking too.

Duncan Lacroix stands in front of a statue with the Beatles' song playing in the background, seemingly unaware of what type of statue it is. 🙄
Tumblr media
This is the statue behind Duncan, Statue of Earl Roberts by Harry Bates, which is in Glasgow`s Kelvingrove Park, commemorates one of the most distinguished commanders of the British Empire, Field Marshal Lord Frederick Sleigh Roberts of Kandahar 1st Earl Roberts (1832 – 1914) and is an exact replica of the original which was unveiled in 1898 in Calcutta, India, to acknowledge his actions during the “Indian Rebellion,” 1857-1858 also known as the “Sepoy Mutiny”.
Tumblr media
Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts (30 September 1832 – 14 November 1914) VC KG KP GCB OM GCSI GCIE KStJ PC was one of Britain’s most successful military commanders of the 19th century. British Victorian-era general born in Kanpur (Cawnpore) India served much of his military career there. Kanpur became one of the most important commercial and military stations of British India.
He won important victories during the Second Afghan War and revitalised the British campaign in the Boer War. He rose to Major-General during the Afghan war, 1878-80, and Commander-in-Chief in India, 1885-93.
A Field Marshal is the highest rank in the British Army. The rank of Field Marshal is never awarded except to a General who has commanded an army in war.
Tumblr media
These are words from a recruiting speech given by Lord Roberts:
"I seem to see the gleam in the near distance of the weapons and accoutrements of this Army of the future, this Citizen Army, the wonder of these islands, and the pledge of the peace and of the continued greatness of this Empire" Extract from Lord Robert's speech in Glasgow on 6th May 1913.
Lord Roberts was the protagonist of a national military service and he visited Glasgow on the 5th of May 1913 as part of his duties to the National Service League and aimed to ‘rouse public interest to the necessity of a more adequate home defence.
The University of Glasgow decided confer his honorary degree upon him at a special ceremony, to coincide with Lord Roberts visit at this time. Professor James Moir, Dean of the Faculty of Law, presented Earl Roberts for the degree of Doctor of Laws at the Bute hall.
Tumblr media
Lord Roberts died at the Front of pneumonia at St Omer, France while visiting Indian troops fighting the First World War. He was given a state funeral after lying in state at Westminster Hall (only one of two non-royal family members to do so in the 20th century, the other being Sir Winston Churchill) and was buried in St Paul's Cathedral.

Took Sydney off of Bute-Less because I thought we might go to some USDF shows this year, and then they announced regionals for my zone are going to be 6-7 hours away. So, that’s not happening this year. I’m debating putting her back on. When I initially put her on she was doing pretty poorly with her symptoms, and it seemed to perk her up almost immediately. New barn she overall seems to be doing so much better with her symptoms despite eating more grass overall. Now she’s off of it, and other that one day that she was wanting to park out I haven’t noticed a huge difference between her being on and being off. 🤔 But I know she does so much better being on when she is feeling symptomatic….

15 questions, 15 people
ty for the tag @brownsugarteabooks <333, i feel so included lmao.
Are you named after anyone? my name has a funny story: my mom got delia deetz and lydia deetz from beetlejuice mixed up. so she tried to name me after the "cute little goth girl", but instead I got "evil stepmother." i hated it as a kid, but growing up is seeing how iconic delia deetz was LOL
When was the last time you cried? i cry very often, i get overwhelmed super easily- so yesterday.
Do you have kids? i have many stuffed animals, do they count?
Do you use sarcasm a lot? too often. i've gotten into a couple of arguments over it because people can't tell if i'm being serious or not.
What’s the first thing you notice about people? the first thing i actually pay attention to is their voice. i like hearing different voices because i hate how i sound LMAO
What’s your eye colour? hazel <33
Scary movies or happy ending? scary movies WITH a happy ending. next-
Any special talents? not really, i guess i'm quite creative! i come up with a lot of ideas, bute actually executing said creative ideas- ahahahahahah no.
Where were you born? born and raised in florida woohooooo. being an alternative person in florida sucks.
What are your hobbies? i love playing video games, especially horror games. other than that, reading, writing when i'm in the mood, and playing dnd! :D
Do you have any pets? no, i have too many allergies to deal with pets, unfortunately.
What sports do you play/have you played? i was never really a sports person, but in high school i did color guard! apart of the marching band, i was even the captain.
How tall are you? 5'6'', however some people have said i radiate shorter energy when they don't actually see my height and i wanna scream LOL
Favourite subject at school? i hated school. i honestly can't think of a favorite subject.
Dream job? something in the entertainment business. film, live entertainment, theme parks, running a larp, something along the lines of that. i'm going to school for entertainment management anyways :D
tagging @tempusfugitandallthatblog @deliajane @queerdeadwizards @verybadatwriting @starchasermoons @thebibutterflyao3 @ficsalot and like that's all of my mutuals sooooo aha i can't really do 15 srry, and if you've already done this double srry LOL

Mushrooms I found today - 15/10/2024 - in or around Bute Park, Cardiff
These adorable little guys I found growing from logs in a small clearing. I think these are are all bonnet mushrooms of some kind but I didn’t want to pick them to see their gills. I wanna tentatively say they might be mycena stylobates, mycena speirea or mycena vitilis

I did find this one broken on the ground beneath the log though, not sure if it came from the log
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This friend was growing nearby the logs, not sure what she is but she's pretty
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A whole lot of these small brown mushrooms, perhaps psathyrella corrugis

The coolest thing about this one was that I picked one up could see the mycelium growing on the leaves

Finally there's this fella, not as pretty as the others but very different looking. I’m thinking this is some sort of brittlegill/russula. Didn’t get a very good look at it because it was by the side of the road and i already looked like a fool enough while getting a photo of it

This was my first attempt at identifying mushrooms I find out and about, I definitely could've done better. In future I'll need to measure the mushrooms and try to get more gill pics and cross sections.
