I love the version of Dorcas in A Hand That Feeds by Rollercoasterwords so my Dorcas is partially based off of her.

Her family is made up of semi-affluent Ministry official who live in London. She’s the oldest daughter and has two brothers: Verdan (who’s two years younger than her) and Midas (who’s nine years younger). She acts as a role model for them most of the time, her parents were definetely telling her brothers “why cant u be more like dorcas ://” jhkfhk. They’re purebloods and ambitious and they don’t settle for anything less than the best. Dorcas herself is very studious, she’s v/ competitive with James and Sirius to be top of their class. I don’t think she has a very large social circle; most of her friends are made up of her Quidditch team. Partially bc she doesn’t have a desire to and also she is soooo awkward around ppl her own age. It is much easier for her to get on with authority figures, she kind of just flounders in most social situations with her peers. On that note, she’s not friends with Evan and Regulus’ crowd, she finds them obnoxious.

She’s insanely powerful and worked her ass off to get there! She’s been passionate about studying magic since before she even came to Hogwarts. Dorcas is both victim and master of the grindset.

She’s keeper and captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team. Her and Marlene were relentless gay Quidditch rivals since their second year and they got together in their seventh year. They still bicker, regularly. I see Dorcas as a femme lesbian (sorry butch Dorcas lovers) and her style is very clean cut, academic, and neutral. Also, I think her height is somewhere between 5’7-5’9.

What makes them the best NPC: She's very silly and makes so many puns, she's a dragonblood sorcerer whose dad is a copper dragon. For most of her life she could spit acid and thought it was just because of the specific ancestry she had and had no clue it could have been related to her copper-y scales. She was the first person to really get to know the party's resident edgy man. Originally she was supposed to be a minor part of the plot, sending the party letters from her home, but the party and the DM liked her so much she managed to stay in the party.

What makes them the best NPC: He's a war criminal. He's aroace. He's socially inept and filled with guilt over the aforementioned War Crimes. Surprisingly though he desperately tries to make his relationship with his (supposed) future wife go smoothly even though neither of them want to go through with the marriage - also his PC wife has no clue that she's in an arranged marriage with him. Also he might want to kill his dad (somewhat justifiably).

Sounds to me like you could be genderfluid, or, if you experience all those genders at once you could look into being multigender, which is an umbrella term for anyone who experiences more than one gender. For your experience specifically, you could look into polygender, which means you experience many genders at the same time or are fluid between them, hope this helps!

yeah! John is canonically Māori. I believe Tamsyn Muir has talked about it outside the books, but for sources within the text [Nona the Ninth spoilers warning]: we know from Nona's flashback chapters that pre-apocolypse John is a guy from New Zealand/Aotearoa. He uses several te reo language phrases throughout the books (although of course that's not standalone evidence of his ancestry since those could be things he learned living in community with te reo speakers). His physical descriptions include having brown skin ("The cool white lights...cast the warm browns of his hands and face into an everyday ochre"), as well as "nondescript dark brown" hair, a "long jaw, high forehead", a "long, square, urbane face". Most directly, during the John chapters of Nona, he says that in response to his eye color change, "P— said I looked like a Māori TV Pink Panther" (referencing the cartoon character Pink Panther who has yellow eyes, and Maōri Television, now called by its te reo name Whakaata Māori, a channel that broadcasts programs that aim to revitalize and promote Māori language and culture)

I'm probably missing a few other descriptions/references but that's a fair gist. I feel like there are other things that indicate his culture like maybe when talking about his family but I can’t remember anything specific enough to go find a quote, my apologies for not quite yet encyclopedic knowledge of the books lol

also slightly related reading I wanna throw on here is this tamsyn tumblr post from 2019 about the GtN characters' appearances. she pulls together their main canonical descriptions as well as adding more about how she envisions them and it's a super interesting read to me. about Gideon she says, “Gideon is true butch … She should have a strong-jawed, boyishly pretty face with a big douchebag grin. … I envision her as mixed Mãori, darker-skinned than Harrow.”
