#i mean of course i cant diagnose them........ but#im the first in my family to be diagnosed that i know of#then my sister#i suspect my brother has it too tho. i suspected it of him before i suspected it of myself#but this made me realize something interesting#the only person on my dads side of thr family diagnosed with any mental disorders is my dad#he has dyslexia#but he was never treated for it in any way and ended up dropping out of high school partially bc of that#which was in the 80s#and i think..... he got diagnosed bc they wanted a reason for why he was '''''''stupid'''''''#even tho. ofc hes not. hes told stories about how he'd sleep through entire classes or just not pay any attention#and then pass the finals with no preparation especially math#but. in the 80s. younger brother of a more 'normal' child. has struggles?????? reading?????? and writing???????#what is this monstrosity??????????#so he got diagnosed and his mom and teachers felt better bc there was a reason. but no one helped him with it#and no one has been diagnosed with any mood disorders except maybeeeeee my older cousins but that would've been on their own#not their parents actually caring 💀💀#idk how my brother hasn't been diagnosed with adhd tho???? bc he had like. classic adhd boy child in school problems#idk when it started getting recognized more tho maybe he was just too old lol#but now. as an adult. with multiple mental illnesses. im like. wow. this is GENETIC#my dad and grandfather especially#and that's the thing like. i remember my dad cycling through hobbies a lot when i was younger#hed get really into models. then not touch one for years. really into building guitars. not touch one for years. really into train sets. n-#but i remember my mom joking like ahahaha my husband cycles through his hobbies then he just drops them ahahahah#hes silly like that#now im like. bro. hes hyperfixating. and he does it exactly the same as i do 😭😭#anyway. that's my thoughts for the night

Olly Alexander Is Done With Shame
Like the character he plays in “It’s a Sin,” the actor and singer struggled with being gay. Now, he tells the world everything.
By Anna Leszkiewicz
Feb. 19, 2021Updated 9:22 a.m. ET
LONDON — When Olly Alexander burst into tears shooting a scene of “It’s a Sin,” no one was very surprised.
Making the show, which came to HBO Max on Thursday and follows a group of friends embracing the gay culture of ’80s London under the shadow of AIDS, was emotional for many of the cast and crew — and Alexander is as comfortable showing his vulnerabilities as the character he plays, Ritchie, is at deflecting them.
“I was a complete mess after the first take,” Alexander, 30, said in a recent video interview. “I was sobbing.” Peter Hoar, the director of “It’s a Sin,” paused filming.
The scene in question, which comes after Ritchie and his friends are arrested protesting the British government’s inaction on AIDS, is one of many in the show that explore how the epidemic devastated gay men’s lives.
When we meet Ritchie, he is an impishly confident but naïve 18-year-old who has just moved to London, with dreams of becoming an actor. Alexander also moved to the capital from rural England at 18 and scored his first movie role, but today he is better known as the lead singer of the band Years & Years. “It’s a Sin” is his first acting gig in six years.
Years & Years’s music often explores the relationship between desire and shame, and is heavily influenced by ’80s bands like Pet Shop Boys. (“It’s a Sin” takes its title from that group’s song of the same name.) So when Alexander heard Russell T Davies, the show’s creator, was interested in him for the lead role, the opportunity “made poetic sense,” Alexander said.
In an interview, Davies said the show was “cast gay as gay, which is my policy.” For Ritchie, he added, he wanted an out actor who already had a big profile in Britain. “That almost narrows it down to a field of one,” he said. “It was the simplest audition of my life.”
Alexander’s arch performance as Ritchie suggests that the character’s ambition and bravado are reactions to fear and self-loathing. “I realized straight away, ‘Oh, I know who Ritchie is,’” Alexander said. “He’s trying to get onstage and shine and dazzle: I’ve done that.”
But whereas Ritchie masks his vulnerabilities, Alexander has spoken frankly in interviews and onstage with the band about his experiences of bulimia, anxiety, self-harm and depression.
“I’ve said just everything about myself,” he said. “My life is kind of out there now.”
Alexander grew up in Gloucestershire, in western England, where his mother founded a local music festival. His father, an aspiring musician, worked in amusement parks.
It was a creative household, Alexander said, but his father had mental health problems and substance abuse issues that led to a difficult atmosphere at home. When he was 14, his parents separated; he’d only seen his father a handful of times since, he said.
School was an even more fraught environment, and Alexander experienced homophobic bullying from age 9. “I had long blond hair, and I acted quite feminine,” he said. “That made me a target. And kids can be so cruel.”
As Alexander recalled his younger self, he started to cry. It took many years until he could look back at the child he was with compassion, he said. “But that’s the biggest thing I’ve tried to do,” he added. The impact of his childhood is something he’s still processing in weekly therapy, he said.
When Alexander’s high school classmates went to college, he moved to East London and became a jobbing actor while babysitting and waiting tables. A pale, skinny teenager with a nest of tight curls, he landed roles as the tuberculosis-ridden younger brother of Ben Whishaw’s Keats in the film “Bright Star,” and an anguished drug user in Gaspar Noé’s trippy art movie “Enter the Void.”
Alexander had been living in London for a couple of years when he met his Years & Years bandmates, Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen. Though they started out making high-minded, Radiohead-inspired electronic music, Alexander pushed the band toward synth-pop, with big, melodramatic choruses full of longing.
In 2015, the band’s exhilarating but anguished song “King” — about the strange thrill of being treated badly in a relationship — reached No. 1 on the British singles chart, and its debut album, “Communion,” topped the album charts, too.
“His songs are his life,” said the producer Mark Ralph, who has worked with Years & Years from the band’s earliest days “If you want to know what’s gone on in Olly’s life, then you just read all his lyrics.”
“Love takes its toll on me,” Alexander sings in “Sanctify,” a song about a secret liaison with a straight man. “And I won’t, and I won’t, and I won’t be ashamed.”
When the band performed the song at the Glastonbury Festival in 2016, soon after the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., a rainbow-clad Alexander told the crowd, “I’m here, I’m queer, and, yes, sometimes I’m afraid.” But, he added, “I am never ashamed, because I am proud of who I am.”
The speech caught the interest of TV producers, and, in 2017, he fronted a BBC documentary called “Olly Alexander: Growing Up Gay.” In it, he returns to his family home and leafs through teenage diaries full of references to bulimia and self-harm. On camera, he tells his mother about the bullying at school for the first time: Through tears, they discuss how it led him to mental health problems in his teenage years.
“It’s a lot to ask someone to bare their soul on national television,” said Vicki Cooper, the TV movie’s director. “But those difficult conversations created the best moments in the film.”
That documentary, and Alexander’s openness about his own mental health, mean he gets a lot of messages on social media from fans who are struggling themselves. He used to try to respond to them, he said, but the quantity has become impossible to keep up with.
Through those messages, though, Alexander had “seen a really emotionally vulnerable side to a lot of people,” he said. “That’s a precious thing, actually.”
Alexander had also been humbled by the positive response to “It’s a Sin” in Britain, he said. The show broke records for the streaming service All4, where it aired, with 6.5 million streams.
“It’s a Sin” first appeared on All4 during National H.I.V. Testing Week; on social media, the show’s cast encouraged viewers to get tested. The Terrence Higgins Trust, an H.I.V. nonprofit, said that the number of people taking tests through their service had almost quadrupled in the weeks afterward.
“People living with H.I.V. now can live normal, healthy lives: It’s so important to get that message out,” Alexander said, adding that treatments for the virus had transformed since the ’80s. “I’m really grateful that these conversations are happening, because, honestly, lots of people really didn’t know what was going on in this period of history. They’re shocked to learn about it now.”
That era is also having an influence on Alexander’s music. He is currently recording new material with Years & Years, inspired by the ’80s dance anthems of the “It’s a Sin” soundtrack and beyond: Donna Summer, New Order, Pet Shop Boys.
“During the pandemic, I wanted to listen to super upbeat club music that made me dance around,” he said. “I found myself wanting to create the fantasy and the energy that I haven’t necessarily been experiencing.”
As well as working on new music, Alexander said he had spent the lockdowns in England watching “Real Housewives” episodes, and playing Animal Crossing. “I used to be so, so driven,” he said, but now he was putting less pressure on himself.
He was happy, he added, to think back on what he’d already achieved, and how much has changed since he was a little boy who wished he wasn’t gay.
“I’ve kept a diary since I was 13 years old,” he said. “Sometimes I look at it and think I can tell this kid: ‘You’re going to do amazing things. You’re going to get to where you are now. It’s OK. You got this.’”

-Love Deidra
Deidra Goldberg smiled and rolled her eyes as she watched her best friends and band mates Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted “Theodore” Logan jam out on their guitars after introducing themselves as the ‘Wild Staylions”; just like they always did at every band practice.
It was after school on a Thursday afternoon and Deidra and the guys were holding their weekly band practice in Bill’s garage.
Deidra was the third and only girl, member in the band playing the drums and Bill and Ted always teased her that she was going to be the next Karen Carpenter, especially after watching her play as well as she did.
On this day, Deidra was glad Bill’s dad and stepmom Missy were out of town for the week because if they had been home, Bill’s dad would already be downstairs complaining about the noise.
The house always vibrated and shook when Bill and Ted played their guitars and Deidra could have sworn that she heard several things break from inside the house.
She couldn’t even tell if what she felt was just the house vibrating or her phone in her jeans pocket.
Pulling out her phone, Deidra saw a text from her best girlfriend Emily asking what she was doing. With a grin and a shake of her head, Deidra texted back:
‘Watching as Bill and Ted cause an earthquake. What about you?”
A few moments later Emily texted back: “Lol Working on history homework 🤮”
Deidra texted back: “You poor soul. Practice will be over in another half hour. You want me to come over and help you?”
“Yes plz!” Emily texted back. “You’re a lifesaver!”
Deidra grinned and texted back a kiss emoji, telling Emily she’d see her then.
She was just about to put her phone back in her pocket when she noticed the guitars and vibrating had stopped.
“Who’re you talking to?” Bill asked Deidra, a grin on his face with Ted looking as well with his own signature cute, goofy grin.
Deidra almost jumped a mile at the sound of her friend’s voice, a blush creeping up on her face as she put her phone away.
“Emily”, she replied as she stood up, walking over to her drum set she kept in Bill’s garage and sitting down on the small, wooden stool.
She took her drumsticks in her hands before playing a small drum riff. “She wanted to see what I was up to.”
Ted noticed the soft blush on his best friend’s cheeks and gave him a teasing grin.
“Did she ask about Bill?” he asked Deidra in a teasing voice.
“Shut, up Ted”, Bill said through clenched teeth, his face getting redder as he put his guitar strap back on.
Ted smiled at Deidra and she smiled back, laughing a little.
They both knew Bill had a big crush on Emily only he was too shy to say much of anything to her.
Whenever the trio were at school and Emily came over to talk to Deidra, Bill would almost immediately start blushing and sweating while fumbling on his words as Emily said hi to him.
As a result, Bill would wave goodbye before running off.
~~~
“Bill”, Deidra said after practice had ended for the day.
The trio were now sitting outside Bill’s open garage having a snack of barbecue chips and Coke, Metallica’s Enter Sandman playing quietly on the large stereo inside the garage.
“Why don’t you just talk to Emily?” she smiled softly and took a small sip of her drink, a thought crossing her mind. “What do you think she’s gonna do?” Deidra teased. “Bite you?”
“No!” Bill replied, circling his finger around the rim of his Coke can nervously as he thought about Emily. “It’s just that…well, s-she’s just…so-so pretty.”
A small smile crossed his features as he pictured Emily’s long blonde hair and beautiful smile as she walked down the hall in between classes.
He thought about the way her blue eyes shined and in Bill’s opinion, her eyes put the stars in San Dimas to shame at night.
“Really…. really pretty”, Bill added dreamily as he found himself drifting off into space.
“Well, Deidra’s pretty!” Ted spoke up, causing Deidra’s heart to skip a beat, her own face growing hot. “And you can talk to her just fine, Dude!”
Deidra felt herself sweating as she rubbed the back of her neck nervously, her heart beating faster.
When it came to crushes, Deidra knew exactly what Bill was feeling.
She herself harvested a secret crush on Ted that she had been keeping to herself ever since the trio had started at San Dimas High a couple years ago.
The trio have known each other since first grade and became the best of friends ever since, but it wasn’t until their freshman year of high school that Deidra began to think of Ted as more than just a best friend.
At times all she wanted to do was tell Ted how she felt: how cute she thought he looked when his long, dark hair fell in his face, how his chocolate brown eyes lit up whenever he was excited about something, and how he was so kind, so loving…so…so-
Deidra was brought out of her thoughts at the sound of the volume of Metallica’s hit song intensifying.
Bill and Ted were now in the pathway of the garage, Ted’s hand on the volume dial.
“Here comes my favorite part!” Ted cried as he made eye contact with Bill who had an equally excited smile on his face.
“Excellent!” the boys cried out in perfect unison before doing their signature air guitar move.
(A/N: I recommended listening to 2:42-3:57 as you read the next bit  )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxRxd8aNd6I
Deidra watched with a smile as Bill and Ted ran back out to the front of the garage, Coke cans in hand as the ground beneath them began to vibrate due to the heavy bass of Metallica’s guitar and drum riffs.
The boys mimicked the guitar’s long instrumental break, sliding on the pavement as if they were preforming an actual concert.
Deidra smiled and slightly shook her head.
They were dorks all right, but they were her dorks and she wouldn’t trade her friendship with them for anything in the world.
When the guitar break ended, being replaced by the sound of drums, Bill and Ted jumped back on their feet, striking dramatic poses as well as serious, dark expressions as the drums in the song increased and the guitar riffs grew darker, Ted tapping his foot to the beat as his and Bill’s heads hung low.
“Now I lay me down to sleep”, Ted recited, matching James Hetfield’s tone of voice perfectly, using his Coke can as a microphone.
“Now I lay me down to sleep”, Bill repeated in his normal voice, doing the same with his can.
“I pray the Lord my soul to keep”, Ted continued, slowly making eye contact with his best friend though each passing line of the prayer.
“I pray the Lord my soul to keep”, Bill echoed.
“If I die before I wake…”
“If I die before I wake…”
“I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
“I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
“Hush little baby don’t say a word!” Ted sang after striking another quick pose.
He whipped his head to match the two beats in between, his dark hair flying before landing in his face, making him look mysterious and his eyes shining didn’t help matters much.
Deidra gulped and wiped her forehead with the back of her hand.
Sure, it was hot out here…but when did it suddenly get hotter?
“And never mind that noise you heard!”
Ted whipped his head a couple more times before Bill took the next line, striking another pose as well. “It’s just the beasts under your bed!” he sang before moving closer to Ted so they could share the same Coke can.
“In your closet in your head!” the boys belted out in perfect unison before downing their drinks and tossing them into the open trashcan, the cans landing inside with ease.
Bill and Ted threw their heads back as the song’s chorus played on before looking at each other and busting out laughing, returning to their fold-out chairs.
“You guys are crazy”, Deidra laughed with a smile before finishing her soda.
“Oh, yeah?” Bill asked giving her a teasing smirk before tackling her in a headlock, causing Deidra to laugh even harder.
“You’re the crazy one for hanging out with a couple crazies like us, Dudette.”
“Dog pile!” Ted cried happily as he tackled his friends.
Ted quickly scrambled beside Bill and started giving Deidra a noogie.
Now, you might be thinking to yourself: what girl would allow herself to wrestle around with her two best guy friends as if she were one of the boys?
A girl who has an older twin brother and a younger brother, that’s who.
Yup, Deidra was a middle child between her older twin brother Barry, older sister Erica, and little brother Adam so she was pretty used to rolling around in the dirt or wrestling with her friends.
She watched her brothers do it all the time.
Ted pulled Deidra a bit closer against him in order to give her a harder noogie and it was then that Deidra had to stop for a moment and notice the strong, wonderful scent of Ted’s cologne that was lingering off his clothes.
God, he smelled so good!
‘We’re off the Never-Neverland’ came the song from inside the garage, and as if on cue, the trio started laughing harder as they fell backwards, losing their balances as the song came to an end.
“Oh, man!” Deidra laughed as she struggled to catch her breath, her head under Bill and Ted’s chins. “Y-You guys are a couple of nut-jobs!”
“That’s us!” Ted agreed with a goofy smile, Bill nodding in agreement.
“Yup!” Bill added. “That’s us, nut-jobs!”
He gave Ted a high-five.
As they all tried to catch their breaths, Deidra blushed at the sound of Ted’s fast-paced heartbeat in her ears.
Oh, how she wanted so badly to kiss his neck and lovingly caress his chest…to tell him she loved him.
She could have laid right there forever.
To her, the sound of Ted’s heart beating was like a beautiful, romantic harp song that only she could understand.
“Hey, Dee”, Ted spoke up, his voice tearing into her thoughts. She was noticing his heart rate slowing back to normal. “Weren’t you supposed to help Emily with something?”
Deidra’s eyes popped open, her fantasies vanishing like a puff of smoke as the beautiful harp song scratched to a stop.
“Shit!” she cried. “You’re right!”
Hurrying to her feet, Deidra noticed that the afternoon sun was starting to set.
Quickly pulling out her phone, she saw that it was 6:26 p.m. which means that Emily had called her three hours ago!
“Oh, man!” Deidra cried. “Emily’s never gonna let me hear the end of this!”
“Tell her I said hey!” Ted called good-naturally as Deidra started running down Bill’s driveway.
“Oh, sure!” Deidra called back as she came to a halt. “If she lets me get a word in anyhow!”
Bill gave Deidra a smile.
“Are you and Emily coming to my party tomorrow night?” he called.
Ever since Bill got word that his dad and Missy were going out of town, only one thought came to his mind: throwing the best party San Dimas has ever seen!
The teen had been planning this party since the end of the trio’s last year of junior high and now that it was finally going to become a reality, Bill was totally prepared and ready for anything.
The party was all Bill talked about ever since his dad and Missy shut the front door last Saturday afternoon.
‘I don’t have time for this, Bill!’ Deidra thought to herself.
“I’ll double check with Emily and she if wants to come!” Deidra called, “but I know I’ll be there for sure! See you guys in school tomorrow! Stay excellent, guys!”
And with that she was off.
As she ran off to her best friend’s house, Deidra smiled as she thought about Bill and Ted and how fun they were to be around.
She wouldn’t trade their friendship for anything in the world and she was confident nothing could ever ruin that, but at the funny feeling in her stomach as she thought about Ted, Deidra wasn’t so sure.
‘Oh, c’mon now!” Deidra told herself. “You guys have been friends for so long, nothing can break that.”
She smiled as she turned a corner, closer to Emily’s street and for the first time since she developed feelings for Ted, Deidra was feeling pretty good about the bond she had with Bill and Ted.
They have seen each other through all kinds of fights as well as good times and bad.
It felt as if they had been through everything together and when you’ve been through what you feel like are the hardest times in your life with your closest friends by your side, nothing’s impossible.
Well, that’s exactly what Deidra was feeling and thinking as she knocked on Emily’s front door.
However, if those feelings would remain the same in the next 24-hours’ time, Deidra was about to find out.
Top 10 Greatest Leonardo DiCaprio Movies of All Time
Source We all love Leo for his promising performance. May he be a bad boy, a romantic boyfriend, or a mentally-ill child, we couldn't deny the fact that he's an incredible actor. Plus, he's the King of Freak-Out scenes! Now, let's find out his top 10 greatest movie roles of all time. 1. Titanic
His most popular movie performance of all is playing Jack Dawson in the award-winning 1997 movie, Titanic. This box-office, record-breaking movie that stunned millions of people across the globe has made a worldwide phenomenon that goes deep down in history. Besides the heart-breaking story of the tragic ship, there's also Leo and Kate's chemistry that binds the audiences into a more level of attachment. No doubt, it's still the summit of Leo's career, and one of the greatest old-school movies to come out of Hollywood in the last 20 years. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet committed to the film even before the script was written, on the basis only of a 165-page outline James Cameron had written.The hands seen sketching Rose are not Leonardo DiCaprio's, but director James Cameron's. In post-production, Cameron, who is left-handed, mirror-imaged the sketching shots so the artist would appear to be right-handed, like DiCaprio.Both Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio learned how to dance the polka for the scenes set at the party in the third-class compartments.Johnny Depp was offered the role of Jack Dawson, but turned it down, and considers it a big regret. 2. What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Source In this emotional, tear-jerking movie, our young Leo plays Arnie Grape, who is a mentally handicapped teenager. He's the younger brother of Gilbert (Johnny Depp), who struggles to bring their family out of difficult circumstances. Leo's performance as a mentally disabled teen is so convincing, it'll make you think that he's definitely not normal at all. This movie brought our young Leo to his first Oscar-nominated role. It's just so sad that he won't be able to tell his "Mamma" about his Oscar award, because she won't wake up anymore. Fun facts: Leo said that playing Arnie Grape was "the most fun I've ever had."When getting into character, Leo remarked of it. I spent a few days at a home for mentally retarded teens. We just talked and I watched their mannerisms. People have these expectations that mentally retarded children are really crazy, but that isn't so. It's refreshing to see them because everything's so new to them."Leo created Arnie's trademark flicking his finger against his nose, describing it as a sort of "brain wipe...like Arnie is massaging the inside of his brain."Leo really did not bathe during the period in filming when Arnie refused to go near water! 3. Romeo + Juliet
Before Leo had the role of Jack in Titanic, he's already a hot icon for being the handsome, sexy, and romantic boyfriend that every single ladies dream of having. Set in the modern era, Baz Luhrmann's histrionic, gang-war-filled setting take on the classic play. Although Kate and Leo's chemistry is so much perfect in Titanic, it is undeniably true that Leo and Claire's pair up is also stunning. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio's version of Romeo's speech at Juliet's bier was so good it movedClaire Danes to tears, nearly ruining the scene. The moment the director yelled "cut!," Danes smacked DiCaprio on the arm and said, "Don't make me cry. I'm supposed to be comatose, here!"Leonardo DiCaprio was Baz Luhrmann's first choice to play Romeo.Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio initially did not get along well on set. Danes accused Leonardo DiCaprio of being immature, while Leo said Danes was just uptight. 4. Catch Me If You Can
Source Who would've thought that this handsome, good-looking man is a fugitive? Not in real life though, but in Steven Spielberg's hit movie, "Catch Me if You Can". Leo is Frank Abagnale, a real-life con-man who traveled around the country and lived the high life as he impersonated pilots, lawyers, and doctors. Leo's acting from one character to another is just so promising, we'll all convinced that he's not just impersonating. Fun facts: To get her to achieve the way he wanted her to sloppily kiss Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg asked Amy Adams to pretend she was starving to death and eating a cheeseburger.According to the real Frank Abagnale Jr. approximately 80 percent of the movie is true.When Frank begins recruiting decoy flight attendants; when announcing the girls picked he announces the actresses by real name.17-year-old Frank tells Brenda he's 28 years old, which was Leonardo DiCaprio's true age when Catch Me If You Can premiered in 2002. 5. The Departed
Source One of the most intense roles that Leo ever had was playing the role of Billy Costigan as a cop infiltrating the mob. Together with Matt Damon as a mobster infiltrating the police force, the film is an intricate, fascinating tale of competing cat-and-mouse games. However, the film director and his screenwriter infuse it with so much tragedy that it winds up becoming something almost mythic. But seeing Leo's performance is just so intense, in a totally unglamorous way by being a desperate man who almost loses his identity. It's one of his all-time greatest performances. Fun facts: Leo could've won an Oscar award for this movie. A possible reason why he did not receive an Oscar nomination for his performance in this movie was because the Warner Bros. Studios initially did not want to favor him over his co-stars and place him in the leading actor category. The studio favored his leading performance in Blood Diamond (2006) (which eventually got him a nomination). DiCaprio himself refused to campaign against his male co-stars in the supporting actor category, so Warner bought no supporting actor ads for DiCaprio, and he did not receive a nomination.Leonardo DiCaprio was cast in the title role in The Good Shepherd (2006).Leonardo DiCaprio called his one-on-one scene with Jack Nicholson "one of the most memorable moments of my life." 6. Django Unchained
Source Playing the matured role of a slave owner Calvin Candie in a smooth and attractive way is definitely a credit to Leo's amazing talent. His dirty, racist, and demented heart on Quentin Tarantino's hit movie "Django Unchained" brought him into a remarkable role of being the bad guy playing his cards on a sophisticated way. This is a man who breeds and forces his slaves to fight each other, who has a weird fascination with France, and who is, at heart, a murderous psychotic. Fun facts: When Leonardo DiCaprio's character Calvin Candie smashes his hand on the dinner table, the actor accidentally crushed a small stemmed glass with his palm and really began to bleed. DiCaprio ignored it, stayed in character, and continued with the scene. Tarantino was so impressed that he used this take in the final print, and when he called cut, the room erupted in a standing ovation. DiCaprio's hand was bandaged and he suggested the idea of smearing blood onto the face of Kerry Washington. Tarantino and Washington both liked this, so Tarantino got some fake blood together.During the filming of one of the dinner scenes, Leonardo DiCaprio had to stop the scene because he was having "a difficult time" using so many racial slurs. Samuel L. Jackson then pulled him aside telling him, "Motherfucker, this is just another Tuesday for us." 7. The Basketball Diaries
Source Another young Leo movie, this is just one of the many proofs that Leo was born to act. His role in the movie adaptation of Jim Carroll's memoir, The Basketball Diaries, is a big shift from playing the sweet, innocent, and mentally-challenged Arnie in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" to a high school basketball star, who eventually becomes broken, and worse, a homeless drug addict. But Leo's flexible character made him so amazing in this movie, which brought a dramatic atmosphere in his struggles as a broken teenager. Fun facts: The guy Jim talks to in the underground drugden, is the real Jim Carroll.Leonardo DiCaprio and Juliette Lewis previously appeared together in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993).This is the first film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg. They would later appear together in The Departed.Jim Carroll was unaware of who Leonardo DiCaprio was at first. "When they first told me it was gonna be Leo, I didn't know who he was," Carroll told The Los Angeles Times. "If they'd said the kid from Growing Pains (1985), I would have known, because when I first saw that kid, I said, 'This kid has a lot of presence.' I said, 'That kid is very pretty. He's gonna do well.'"To prepare for his role, Leonardo DiCaprio hung out in Greenwich Village and went to a poetry reading with Carroll. 8. The Aviator
Source This movie is another Martin Scorsese's. Leo plays the role of Howard Hughes in his early years of being an inventor, and at the same time, a bigtime millionaire businessman. He's facing a lot of problems in almost everything. As he tries to continue chasing his plans and dreams, there are times when he's about to get mad, and Leo's characterization on this part of Howard's life is truly convincing. He's definitely a great actor for this movie. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio spent a day with Jane Russell to hear her memories and impressions of Howard Hughes. She was very impressed with DiCaprio's visit and told him that Hughes was a quiet yet extremely stubborn man who always got his way in the end.Howard Hughes' Los Angeles home in the film was actually the home he lived on Muirland Drive.Leonardo DiCaprio received an Oscar nomination for playing Howard Hughes.Leonardo DiCaprio (standing roughly 6ft) is several inches smaller than the actual Howard Hughes (6ft4). 9. Revolutionary Road
This 2008 movie is kind of special, as Leo and his Titanic partner Kate were reunited for this adaptation of Richard Yates' classic novel "Revolutionary Road". This movie is mainly about suburban despair and two adults who realizes that life is not as easy as one-two-three. Contrary to their adventurous and colorful characters in Titanic, their roles in this movie is matured and somehow full of problems. Leo's excellent performance in this movie is his signature freak-out, where we're all stunned and scared for a moment as he burst out his anger and disappointment. Fun facts: While directing the love scene between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, director Sam Mendes (husband of Winslet at the time) opted to watch the monitor from another room.This was the second movie Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet worked on together since Titanic (1997). Paramount Pictures, which distributed the early film in the U.S., was the worldwide distributor of this film.This film marked the second time Kate Winslet has been in a movie where she makes love in a vintage car, and someone's hand hits the window and slides down it in the throes of passion. The first time was in Titanic (1997). 10. The Man in the Iron Mask
Source After the success of Titanic comes this movie. Leo, who played the sneering, playboy King Louis XIV with his long-imprisoned twin has become a hit after Leo's stardom in Titanic. Young Leo was so versatile, he was able to play two different characters in one movie! Besides, we can also see Leo in his elegant robes while hiding the fact that there's something more dreadful in those shiny dress. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio's mask was made out of polystyrene.Louis XIV did have a brother named Philippe, but he was not a twin. He was several years younger, a flamboyant homosexual, and had the title Duc d'Orleans.MGM discovered the audience the movie attracted was "directly related to appeal of Leonardo DiCaprio", being 55% female and 46% under the age of 25.The film cast includes two Oscar winners: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeremy Irons; and two Oscar nominees: John Malkovich and Gérard Depardieu. Who wants a reincarnation au?
As mentioned in the Halloween count down for Fate, I have a rencarnation au. Figured I’d put it out there so you can request for them in this au.
----------
Artoria Pendragon:
She decends from a high ranking mage family that has been around for centruies
Although her sister Morgan is a far better mage than she is
She currently attends a private school in the English contryside, although later will studdy at the clock tower
So will her sister
They make an unstopable team
She’s a straight A student though
While her sister, Morgan, is very feminine and excells at mage craft, Artoria often struggles with feminine persuntes such as make up (Although she is fond of skin care) and prefers fencing to actual magic
As such she’s a member of her schools fencing team
Owns both the boys and girls uniform
Will switch between them depending on how she’s feelings
Most teachers don’t care but sometimes she gets yelled at for wearing the boys uniform
Highly gifted in classes surrouning English Litrature or the Dramatic Arts
Often auditions for the male roles
Although she doesn’t mind playing women
One year she played Lady Macbeth and got a standing ovation
Less talented in subjects like Maths
Due to her gentamanly manner she has gained many female admires due to her kindness and willingness to beat up a dude if he’s hassling someone
She also has many male admiries
However, most want to break her and make her into their little pet
We all know who I’m talking about right?
Friends with an Irish boy called Diarmuid
They form the gentamanly duo of the school
So many love confessions
This dude called Gil also likes to hang around them
It started as him trying to impress her but then he just kinda became apart of the group?
How did it even happen?
Unofrtunaly Artoria also has a few stalkers
Once again, we all know who I’m talking about?
At one point her father encouraged her to take their siduel but she declied as Morgan was a far better choice for the family head
I mean her magic is amazing guys
She’s a prodogy
In the future I see her becoming a teacher for both mage craft but also English and Swordplay
Even after graduating she continues her fencing as a hobby and travels to many locations with her two friends from school
Diarmuid Ua Duibhne:
His parents loved old knight stories, thus the name
While he isn’t much of a mage he finds magic facinating and found out about it by accident when he overheared Artoria talking to Morgan
That’s actually how they met
She made him swear on his life he wouldn’t tell and started hangging around him to make sure he didn’t
They became friends from there
His grades could be better but as long as he’s passing he doesn’t care
He’s actually very talented with words and writes rather romantic poetry
It makes Gil vomit
Artoria finds it sweet
He and Gil did not get along at all at first
You can’t treat Artoria like that damn it!
They eventually settle their diffrences
He palyed Macbeth alongside Artoria
And he was brilliant
Not as good as Artoria but still amazing
As stated before he’s one of the schools gentlemanly duo
Gets confessed to at least once a day
So gentle when he turns them down
People confess just to be tuned down so they can hear it
He’s so sweet
Has a crush on one of his upperclassmen for a few years
But she’s in a relationship
Don’t be that guy!
Actually has a rather nice singging voice
Yes he’s in a band
So many fangirls
Oh my god so many
In the future he persues his music career and gets signed rather quickly
Girls go crazy for him
Sells so well
Often uses his tours as an excuse to travel with his two friends
Gilgamesh:
Okay he forces everyone to call him Gil because he thinks his actual name is stupid
Who calls their kids Gilgimehs and Enkidu (His little bro)
an archilogist and a mage thats who
His mother is an archilogist and his father a mage
While he did inherit some magic from his father his brother is far better at it
That’s why he studies at the clock tower and Gil doesn’t
Doesn’t have to many friends at first
He’s up himself who would want to be friends with that?
Very do you know who my father is
fuck off mate
Great at history man
Great at most classes
Straight A student
Feels the need to make up for his failue as a mage to his father
At first he was a creep and flirted with Artoria because he wanted to be the guy to tame the lion
Once they’re friends it turns into a huge joke
Mostly
Now he kind of actually wants to date her? Maybe?
But he’s got a good thing going
A bit of a show off
This is where Diarmuid comes in
He’s like 80% of Gil’s impulse control
Joined a band and forced Diarmuid to join
He plays the drums
Lets him get out his agression
Can also play the guitar if needed
Not really interested in persuing a career in it though
Opens a restraunt instead
He themes it to babalon
His name is Gilgamesh might as well use it
It’s actually pretty sucessful
His first trip once out of school was a tour of all the areas that are recorded to be apart of Mesopatamia
Drags the others with him
This is all a huge joke to him
Hassan-i-Sabbah:
A member of an organised crime cindicate
Not much is known about them
He has a private tutor and rarely speaks to people outside his families circle
Very few friends
Thats about it
Lancelot du Lac:
Another famous mage family
Is tutored by his father for much of his life
He lives in a small town in France
Probibly like in Normandy or something
Met Artoria when he began studying in the Clock tower and the two became quick friends
Although he’s not apart of their trio when traveling he gets along rather well with the others
Although he does question Artoira’s friendship with Gil
Very talented at Mage craft
A bit of a perfectionsit
Might have a crush on Artoria but he’s not sure about if she likes him back
Or even is she likes guys for the matter
He’s a quiet dude and often prefres reading to going out drinking or anything with his freinds
And when he does go drinking with them he’s always the sober one that makes sure they don’t do the stupid shit they try to
Artoria get down from that wall!
Gil don’t climb the tree!
Diarmuid I expected better from you
Honestly, he’s kinda just a good guy if a little nieve at times
Alexander the Great:
Yo, dude is popular with everyone
In school he’s kind of a history nerd
Loves history books
He was also a huge gamer
But he was popular because he was just so nice and cheerful most of the time
Not to mention he protected everyone!
Walk home all the people who feel scared
Seriously though
People come to him when they feel unsafe and he walks them home
Also flirts a lot
Pretty girls, cute and mature
Cute boys, he prefers them to be smol so he can pick them up easy but doesn’t mind if they aren’t
Just all the humans
You’re non-binary? He’s all about inclusion and acceptance you’re getting flirted with too!
He just loves everyone
(I mean he’s essentually canoncialy bi but I feel like he could be pan)
Once he graduates he enters his families buissness
They’re some really big company
And he becomes Jumin Han to C&R levels important
And what does he do with his money?
Spends it on others of course!
He’s a suagr daddy now
Most of the time it’s non romantic and non sexual sugar babies
But if he finds someone he likes he might persue something more with them
Just date the big guy, he’s a sweetie
Gilles de Rais;
Remember Artoria’s stalker?
This is him
He decends from a long line of mages
And studies abrawed at the English private school
Which is where he stalkes Artoria
He blood liniage intreegs him
Pendragon was an ancient king how can you not be facinated by a family sharing the name?
He’s very creepy
Later in life he gets involved in a murder and ends up in jail for life
Shirou Emiya;
....do I... Do I really need to write for him?
Medusa:
A half greek student at an Amrican public school
Got a big family
Her two older sister keep setting her up on blind dates
But the fact that she’s blind often turns people off dating her
Someone find her a nice partner
Please
She doesn’t deserve this
Friends with a boy called Heracles who lives down the road from her
She got lost once and he helped her home
He’s actually rather sweet, if a bit short tempered
To bad he has a girlfriend right
Or well that’s how her sisters see it
She doesn’t talk to much
Enjoys scilence
Finds it easier to read
She’s obsessed with Homer’s epics and Greek mythology
It’s where she got her name from after all
She loves kids
Plans to go into child care in the future
Heracles:
His parents are imigrants to America
Their lives were hard but they don’t want his to be so they work so hard
Heracles is very thankful for this
He’s got a bit of an anger issue but he’s been working on it and he’s getting better!
You go baby! you got this
Not the best in schools
He struggles to read and pay attention in class
His girlfriend helps him study so he doesn’t fail
Speaking of girlfriends!
Meg is a sweet girl who’s family are pretty well off
Heracles often wonders why she’d pick a guy like him when she could have had so many guys
It’s a sweet relationship and they end up getting married after graduating
Cu Chulainn:
His parents were obsessed with Irish mythology
And he embraces his name! Unlike some other people we know
That’s right Gil!
Cu is judging you!
His family traveled around a lot when he was younger but they ended up setteling down in the English contryside
While he doesn’t attend school with the trio he sees them in town a lot
Its a small town
Where else will they go
Admires Artoria and Diarmuid and Artoria’s ability to be gentlemen
But also admires Gil’s ability to be a dick and somehow still get the ladies
Sometime he talks to them
Specificaly when they come to his families store
They run a magic/spiritual shop
What you thought this kid was normal?
He’s the rencarnation of the son of the god of fucking light
ain’t no way this kid doesn’t have some magic
On the topic of his magic
I have this headcannon that there is a magic like that we see him use in the anime but most don’t use it anylonger due to it being old and the need for fay blood to use it
Well guess who can use it
That’s right this mage family!
He’s rather talented in it but the style is looked down on most mage families as it’s viewed as primitive
Fuck you he’s gonna brun down your whole hose with one movement!
Cu is actually rather popular with them ladies
He’s a bit of a bad boy, ya know?
But as soon as he’s in a relationship boy is loyal
Although there are many temptations
Medea
Oh my pour child!
She needs a break
She get’s one
You don’t have to marry Jason in this life
Aphrodite can’t touch you here
Another mage
She studies at the clock tower and confesses her atraction to Artoria early in her first year of knowing her
Of course Artoria lets her down gently
They stay aqucainted
She’s extreemly talented
Prodogy child
But has a bad habbit of dating guys that are rather cruel
Someone get her a best friend to smack some sense into her
She ends up as a teacher at the clocktower when she graduates
Sasaki Koujirou:
His family runs a sword fighting school in Japan
They’re proud of their linigae
Claiming to be able to trace their family line back centuries
And that it’s full of amazing fighters
He’s a rather talented fighter and proud of his family name
Many of the people he attands school with admire his dedication
Another who get’s many confessions
He’s just so cool and colected
Hard to not get a crush on him
While he’s gone on a few dates with the people who confess to him he’s never felt a spark
he’s sure when he meets the one he’ll feel it
Belives very strongly in soulmates, you see
Spends most of his free time at home
His family are really traditional too, so no shoes in the house
He wears a kimono a lot
They own an old house too
Like the Emiya estate
So he speands a lot of his time doing things most would consider boring or useless today instead of say watching TV
Dude parctices calligraphy for fun
He’s pretty odd in that sense that at home it’s kind of like a diffrent century
Welcome to My Life
My name is Elizabeth Garcia and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I am from the barrio of Glassell Park, more specifically, I am from the 3200 block of Drew Street. A place where gang violence, drugs and crime once thrived. Drew Street, a two-block street, is among Los Angeles’ most notorious streets due to the drug trade and gang violence that grew out of there.
In the late 1960’s the City of Los Angeles built apartment buildings in this isolated neighborhood surrounded by dead ends which would later be a benefit to the gang that ran the street (Pelisek, 2008). In the late 1990’s the small street I grew up on was primarily occupied by Mexican immigrants, most of them from the small town of Tlalchapa, Guerrero, México which was also known for being one of the country’s most violent regions. The one who ran the street was a woman named Maria “Chata” Leon, who was a mother to 13 children and lived up the street from my family. This woman “lived up” to every stereotype one could have on women of color. She had many children, lived off of welfare before she got involved in the drug business, was involved in the drug trade, and was also a criminal. Maria Leon fit the description of the “Welfare mother” as stated in The Black Feminist Thought by Patricia Hill Collins. Though she did not identify as a black woman, she was a person of color that fit the perception of this image. “Welfare queen is a phrase that describes economic dependency- the lack of job and/or income...” (80). This controlling image that individuals have of black women, could also relate to Maria Leon.
Up the street from where I lived, was the “satellite house”. In this place, Maria raised and taught her children how to run the drug business. There was not one person on Drew Street that did not know who she was due to the many fire fights that stung out of here. Some of her children ended up in wars against the other local gangs and therefore ended up losing their lives. There are many negative associations about this neighborhood, therefore many individuals with aspirations left the street and those who remained turned Drew into a hive of drug and gang activity (Quinones, 2008). This categorization that occurs amongst people of color, is a way of being marginalized and being thought as “no good”. As we see in the works of Michael Zweig, What is Social Class: What’s Class Got to do With It, he states that “we are of course all individuals, but our individuality and personal life chances are shaped- limited or enhanced- by the economic and social class in. which we have grown up and in which we exist as adults.” (127) In my case, growing up on Drew Street meant that life should have been different than what it is today. For those of us who stayed in Glassell Park, we had no choice but to try our best to make it out and become someone while avoiding these stereotypes that people from the “barrio” are nothing but a statistic.
Both my parents, immigrants from the small town of Tlalchapa, Guerrero received no education in the United States. My father received an education in Mexico but did not do anything with his accounting degree here, whereas my mother was never able to afford an education but that does not mean that she was not a wise woman. My father often times at work in order to be able to provide for us and my mother always being with us and making sure we didn’t fall out of line and join those on the street. A quote that stood out from the reading by McNamee and Miller Jr., The Silver Spoon: Inheritance and the Staggered Start, was “Most parents only want the best for their children. As a result, most parents try to do everything they can to secure their children futures.” (132) This quote resonates with my life experiences because growing up, though we didn't have much, my parents always strived to give my siblings and I what we needed to succeed. We might not have had it all in terms of luxury items but there was always love, food, shelter, guidance and support in every aspect of life.
Growing up, my mother was very strict as to who I was allowed to play with and talk to but I never understood why. Although I did not have it all growing up in terms of material things, I had the love and guidance from my parents and that is the reason why I continue to work on myself today. In the words of McNamee and Miller Jr., “cultural capital includes but is not limited to interpersonal styles, and demeanor, manners and etiquette and vocabulary...” (133). Just because someone does not have it all economically, it does not mean that you cannot succeed with the values and manners you are taught from the beginning. In the words of my mother, “la educación empieza en la casa”. The household I grew up in, is what I call a “traditional Mexican home” where there are many rules and expectations of the children, family is most important, and future success is always a topic. As a child I never liked being told what to do, how to do it, and being held to the highest expectations. Somehow my parents expected more from me than they did from my older sister and my younger brother.
As I got older, I came to the realization that I was raised very different than those I grew up with. For fun, our father would take us to the library on Friday’s if we did good throughout the week, we went on hikes, and had dinner on occasion. I never met a classmate that did things like my family did but one thing we had in common was the idea of what was normal. Our normal included witnessing several gang fights, gun shots almost every night, and constant lock-downs, a protocol that is taught in schools for security purposes. If something of this nature did not happen in two or three consecutive days, we would wonder what was going on. Growing up on Drew Street was rough. Always wondering if we were safe walking to and from school, if anything would happen to us while we were playing outside, and most importantly, wondering if we would be able to make it out of there and become someone. Without the structure that I grew up with, I could have been a teen mom, possibly in the wrong footsteps, and without a desire for pursuing higher education.
In this graph, we see that Hispanics, like Blacks and Asians, continue to be underrepresented in college enrollements. Though numbers of enrollment have increased over the years, we, POC, continue to be outnumbered by White individuals.
As a child of a working-class family, you learn the values of hard work and determination. You realize that your parents left everything they once knew so that their children could have the best future possible, so it is only right to pursue a higher education in hopes of being successful one day. For minority individuals like myself, pursuing a higher education is not something that is guaranteed. People like me struggle to secure a spot in a community college, let alone a prestigious university. McNamee and Miller state that for “heirs of large fortunes- their future is financially secure. They will grow up having the best of everything and having every opportunity money can buy.” (132). This quote relates to the recent scandal that broke out in March where over 50 people got charged in the largest college admissions bribery case. All of these people: white, upper-class individuals with the money to buy their way into top universities. This might leave people that belong to this cultura of the struggle feeling like they are not receiving the credit they deserve for rightly securing a spot in these colleges and universities. The problem here is that “in recent years, by all measures, the rich are getting richer, and the gap between the rich and everyone else has appreciably increased” (McNamee and Miller, 2004). This enormous gap between us, working-class individuals and the upper-class families is what is causing the underrepresentation of POC in many aspects of life. A concept that plays an important role in the underrepresentation of people of color in higher education institutions is white privilege. White privilege is all around us and those who are white “are carefully taught not to recognize white privilege as males are taught not tp recognize male privilege.” (McIntosh, P., 2008). These individuals fail to see where and how they are to an advantage.
Unlike the dominant race in American society, us Latinos and people of color, are taught to “echarle ganas” y “ponernos las pilas” porque tenemos que salir adelante. Those are just a few things I heard from my parents growing up, as im sure many others have. Education is something that is not for everyone, but it should always be an option. Latinos tend to make up a small percentage of the educated population due to financial hardships or lack of resources and mentorships available in underrepresented communities. From experience, lacking mentorship when in this situation makes it difficult to fill out a simple college application and an application for financial aid. Therefore, many students choose not to go to college simply because they cannot find the resources to pay for it or others may end up going but end up dropping out. Since parents of first-generation children often times do not receive an education in the United States, there is no way you can ask a parent for help.
For me, going to college has been a bit of a struggle. My older sister did go to college, but even then, the uncertainty of not knowing if paperwork is being filled out correctly makes you overthink the slightest of tasks. In my extended family there are only two cousins, not counting myself or my sister, who have made it to college. My sister Lizette, being the only one out of all of us who has graduated and is now in the process of obtaining her Master of Arts in Teaching degree at the University of Southern California.
I started off at the University of Phoenix, yes, that online school that is advertised on TV. Over 40k invested in this institution that did not care for my success and that is why I am here, today, living in Albuquerque.
In the beginning, moving out of state sounded like so much fun, but only because no one in my family had done it before. I would be the first “to leave the nest” as my parents like to say and I had to learn some things the hard way and face some not-so-nice individuals along the way. I transferred to the University of New Mexico in Fall 2017 and that summer, as we were driving here, we stopped at a gas station in Arizona and that is where my first conflicting encounter occurred. As I was standing in line to pay for some snacks, a man approached me and went on to say, “You look like the real life Pocahontas” and in that moment I did not know how to react. I did not know if he meant it as a compliment or as an insult but I was just in shock to hear someone say such thing. Whether or not it was a compliment, in the works of Dr. Derald W. Sue, this would be considered a microaggression. This man who said this to me was a person of color and that is why I believe that there was no ill-will behind this comment. After all, “the most detrimental forms of microaggressions are usually delivered by well-intentioned individuals who are unaware that they have engaged in harmful conduct toward a socially developed group. (Sue, Derald W., 2010)
There have been many other instances where I have received comments from peers including:
- “How do you afford to pay for college?”
-”You have a really white name for being Mexican.”
-”You were born in Mexico right?”
-”What do your parents do for a living?” (after telling someone that my parents don’t work, implying that they must be doing something illegal to allow me to receive an education.)
-”Your culture would be Indian culture right?”
“You have some Black in you huh.”
These are all things I have heard since moving to Albuquerque and I have convinced myself that it is because compared to other Hispanics, Latin@s, Chicanxs, I am of a darker complexion but it is who I am and nothing anyone says will make me question my identity. The road to getting to where I am today has not been easy. Leaving everything and everyone back home, 800 miles away was no easy task but it was been well worth it. Every struggle one faces in life contributes to the person you are destined to become. In a few days, I will be finally graduating with my undergraduate degree and I am so thankful that I get to represent my people, mi cultura, my home, mi familia with this accomplishment.
Always remember : “It’s not where you come from, it’s what you grow into.”
Top 10 Greatest Leonardo DiCaprio Movies of All Time
Source We all love Leo for his promising performance. May he be a bad boy, a romantic boyfriend, or a mentally-ill child, we couldn't deny the fact that he's an incredible actor. Plus, he's the King of Freak-Out scenes! Now, let's find out his top 10 greatest movie roles of all time. 1. Titanic
His most popular movie performance of all is playing Jack Dawson in the award-winning 1997 movie, Titanic. This box-office, record-breaking movie that stunned millions of people across the globe has made a worldwide phenomenon that goes deep down in history. Besides the heart-breaking story of the tragic ship, there's also Leo and Kate's chemistry that binds the audiences into a more level of attachment. No doubt, it's still the summit of Leo's career, and one of the greatest old-school movies to come out of Hollywood in the last 20 years. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet committed to the film even before the script was written, on the basis only of a 165-page outline James Cameron had written.The hands seen sketching Rose are not Leonardo DiCaprio's, but director James Cameron's. In post-production, Cameron, who is left-handed, mirror-imaged the sketching shots so the artist would appear to be right-handed, like DiCaprio.Both Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio learned how to dance the polka for the scenes set at the party in the third-class compartments.Johnny Depp was offered the role of Jack Dawson, but turned it down, and considers it a big regret. 2. What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Source In this emotional, tear-jerking movie, our young Leo plays Arnie Grape, who is a mentally handicapped teenager. He's the younger brother of Gilbert (Johnny Depp), who struggles to bring their family out of difficult circumstances. Leo's performance as a mentally disabled teen is so convincing, it'll make you think that he's definitely not normal at all. This movie brought our young Leo to his first Oscar-nominated role. It's just so sad that he won't be able to tell his "Mamma" about his Oscar award, because she won't wake up anymore. Fun facts: Leo said that playing Arnie Grape was "the most fun I've ever had."When getting into character, Leo remarked of it. I spent a few days at a home for mentally retarded teens. We just talked and I watched their mannerisms. People have these expectations that mentally retarded children are really crazy, but that isn't so. It's refreshing to see them because everything's so new to them."Leo created Arnie's trademark flicking his finger against his nose, describing it as a sort of "brain wipe...like Arnie is massaging the inside of his brain."Leo really did not bathe during the period in filming when Arnie refused to go near water! 3. Romeo + Juliet
Before Leo had the role of Jack in Titanic, he's already a hot icon for being the handsome, sexy, and romantic boyfriend that every single ladies dream of having. Set in the modern era, Baz Luhrmann's histrionic, gang-war-filled setting take on the classic play. Although Kate and Leo's chemistry is so much perfect in Titanic, it is undeniably true that Leo and Claire's pair up is also stunning. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio's version of Romeo's speech at Juliet's bier was so good it movedClaire Danes to tears, nearly ruining the scene. The moment the director yelled "cut!," Danes smacked DiCaprio on the arm and said, "Don't make me cry. I'm supposed to be comatose, here!"Leonardo DiCaprio was Baz Luhrmann's first choice to play Romeo.Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio initially did not get along well on set. Danes accused Leonardo DiCaprio of being immature, while Leo said Danes was just uptight. 4. Catch Me If You Can
Source Who would've thought that this handsome, good-looking man is a fugitive? Not in real life though, but in Steven Spielberg's hit movie, "Catch Me if You Can". Leo is Frank Abagnale, a real-life con-man who traveled around the country and lived the high life as he impersonated pilots, lawyers, and doctors. Leo's acting from one character to another is just so promising, we'll all convinced that he's not just impersonating. Fun facts: To get her to achieve the way he wanted her to sloppily kiss Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg asked Amy Adams to pretend she was starving to death and eating a cheeseburger.According to the real Frank Abagnale Jr. approximately 80 percent of the movie is true.When Frank begins recruiting decoy flight attendants; when announcing the girls picked he announces the actresses by real name.17-year-old Frank tells Brenda he's 28 years old, which was Leonardo DiCaprio's true age when Catch Me If You Can premiered in 2002. 5. The Departed
Source One of the most intense roles that Leo ever had was playing the role of Billy Costigan as a cop infiltrating the mob. Together with Matt Damon as a mobster infiltrating the police force, the film is an intricate, fascinating tale of competing cat-and-mouse games. However, the film director and his screenwriter infuse it with so much tragedy that it winds up becoming something almost mythic. But seeing Leo's performance is just so intense, in a totally unglamorous way by being a desperate man who almost loses his identity. It's one of his all-time greatest performances. Fun facts: Leo could've won an Oscar award for this movie. A possible reason why he did not receive an Oscar nomination for his performance in this movie was because the Warner Bros. Studios initially did not want to favor him over his co-stars and place him in the leading actor category. The studio favored his leading performance in Blood Diamond (2006) (which eventually got him a nomination). DiCaprio himself refused to campaign against his male co-stars in the supporting actor category, so Warner bought no supporting actor ads for DiCaprio, and he did not receive a nomination.Leonardo DiCaprio was cast in the title role in The Good Shepherd (2006).Leonardo DiCaprio called his one-on-one scene with Jack Nicholson "one of the most memorable moments of my life." 6. Django Unchained
Source Playing the matured role of a slave owner Calvin Candie in a smooth and attractive way is definitely a credit to Leo's amazing talent. His dirty, racist, and demented heart on Quentin Tarantino's hit movie "Django Unchained" brought him into a remarkable role of being the bad guy playing his cards on a sophisticated way. This is a man who breeds and forces his slaves to fight each other, who has a weird fascination with France, and who is, at heart, a murderous psychotic. Fun facts: When Leonardo DiCaprio's character Calvin Candie smashes his hand on the dinner table, the actor accidentally crushed a small stemmed glass with his palm and really began to bleed. DiCaprio ignored it, stayed in character, and continued with the scene. Tarantino was so impressed that he used this take in the final print, and when he called cut, the room erupted in a standing ovation. DiCaprio's hand was bandaged and he suggested the idea of smearing blood onto the face of Kerry Washington. Tarantino and Washington both liked this, so Tarantino got some fake blood together.During the filming of one of the dinner scenes, Leonardo DiCaprio had to stop the scene because he was having "a difficult time" using so many racial slurs. Samuel L. Jackson then pulled him aside telling him, "Motherfucker, this is just another Tuesday for us." 7. The Basketball Diaries
Source Another young Leo movie, this is just one of the many proofs that Leo was born to act. His role in the movie adaptation of Jim Carroll's memoir, The Basketball Diaries, is a big shift from playing the sweet, innocent, and mentally-challenged Arnie in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" to a high school basketball star, who eventually becomes broken, and worse, a homeless drug addict. But Leo's flexible character made him so amazing in this movie, which brought a dramatic atmosphere in his struggles as a broken teenager. Fun facts: The guy Jim talks to in the underground drugden, is the real Jim Carroll.Leonardo DiCaprio and Juliette Lewis previously appeared together in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993).This is the first film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg. They would later appear together in The Departed.Jim Carroll was unaware of who Leonardo DiCaprio was at first. "When they first told me it was gonna be Leo, I didn't know who he was," Carroll told The Los Angeles Times. "If they'd said the kid from Growing Pains (1985), I would have known, because when I first saw that kid, I said, 'This kid has a lot of presence.' I said, 'That kid is very pretty. He's gonna do well.'"To prepare for his role, Leonardo DiCaprio hung out in Greenwich Village and went to a poetry reading with Carroll. 8. The Aviator
Source This movie is another Martin Scorsese's. Leo plays the role of Howard Hughes in his early years of being an inventor, and at the same time, a bigtime millionaire businessman. He's facing a lot of problems in almost everything. As he tries to continue chasing his plans and dreams, there are times when he's about to get mad, and Leo's characterization on this part of Howard's life is truly convincing. He's definitely a great actor for this movie. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio spent a day with Jane Russell to hear her memories and impressions of Howard Hughes. She was very impressed with DiCaprio's visit and told him that Hughes was a quiet yet extremely stubborn man who always got his way in the end.Howard Hughes' Los Angeles home in the film was actually the home he lived on Muirland Drive.Leonardo DiCaprio received an Oscar nomination for playing Howard Hughes.Leonardo DiCaprio (standing roughly 6ft) is several inches smaller than the actual Howard Hughes (6ft4). 9. Revolutionary Road
This 2008 movie is kind of special, as Leo and his Titanic partner Kate were reunited for this adaptation of Richard Yates' classic novel "Revolutionary Road". This movie is mainly about suburban despair and two adults who realizes that life is not as easy as one-two-three. Contrary to their adventurous and colorful characters in Titanic, their roles in this movie is matured and somehow full of problems. Leo's excellent performance in this movie is his signature freak-out, where we're all stunned and scared for a moment as he burst out his anger and disappointment. Fun facts: While directing the love scene between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, director Sam Mendes (husband of Winslet at the time) opted to watch the monitor from another room.This was the second movie Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet worked on together since Titanic (1997). Paramount Pictures, which distributed the early film in the U.S., was the worldwide distributor of this film.This film marked the second time Kate Winslet has been in a movie where she makes love in a vintage car, and someone's hand hits the window and slides down it in the throes of passion. The first time was in Titanic (1997). 10. The Man in the Iron Mask
Source After the success of Titanic comes this movie. Leo, who played the sneering, playboy King Louis XIV with his long-imprisoned twin has become a hit after Leo's stardom in Titanic. Young Leo was so versatile, he was able to play two different characters in one movie! Besides, we can also see Leo in his elegant robes while hiding the fact that there's something more dreadful in those shiny dress. Fun facts: Leonardo DiCaprio's mask was made out of polystyrene.Louis XIV did have a brother named Philippe, but he was not a twin. He was several years younger, a flamboyant homosexual, and had the title Duc d'Orleans.MGM discovered the audience the movie attracted was "directly related to appeal of Leonardo DiCaprio", being 55% female and 46% under the age of 25.The film cast includes two Oscar winners: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeremy Irons; and two Oscar nominees: John Malkovich and Gérard Depardieu.
