Happy new year, everyone! Welcome to 2024, the year that will mark the 10th anniversary of Thanks Ken Penders. I'd like to go over my plans for the blog for this year.

First of all: in the very near future, I'll have a post with my thoughts on Sonic Dream Team, and I'm sure I'll write one last Sonic Prime review once the final episodes drop on the 11th. I've also been sitting on an unfinished piece about the Sonic LEGO sets. I wanted this to be longer and more detailed piece that not only reviewed the sets but also went into the weird disconnect between homogenized image of Sonic the Brand and the actual fiction it's based off of, but it'll probably end up getting cut down a lot just so I can put something out. Let's just say I did a fun little thing with one of the sets.

Second: yes, I would like to return to regular TKP updates this year. As I've said many times, I wanted to do this in 2023, but I've been suffering from creative burnout after finishing SLARPG and have generally been unable to focus on any of my creative goals this past year. I'm hoping that this year will be better and I'll be able to get back into the swing of covering Archie Sonic issues. Even doing one issue every week or so would be vastly preferable to continuing the hiatus. I'm still only halfway done!! But aside from burnout, my other main hurdle is that I need to reread my own archive to refresh myself on all these things after nearly three years away. This will take some time.

The thing is, though, this year I'll have an extra incentive to go back through my previous writing and brush up on all things Archie Sonic. Because you see...

I've decided that I want to make a video essay about Penders. The comics, the copyright battle, The Lara-Su Chronicles, everything.

The why

I've thought about doing this before, but I never committed to the idea. I was too busy with gamedev, or I thought it'd end up being too long, or I figured that there were already enough videos on the subject, or I just lacked confidence in my ability to put together a video essay. So I told myself it wasn't meant to be, and let the multiple YouTubers who have cited me as a source on their own Penders videos fill that void.

Recently, though, a few things have happened that have convinced me it might be time. For one, YouTube video essays/media retrospectives/etc. are just getting longer and longer. When Quinton Reviews is out here doing 21 hours of videos on Sam & Cat, a subpar Nick sitcom that only lasted one season, I don't feel so crazy for wanting to make a video about several hundred comic books and two lawsuits that'd be at least an hour or two long lmao. Admittedly, I've also been self-conscious about doing a long video essay like this as a trans woman who has yet to do any vocal training. But these days I feel like I see a lot more transfem YouTubers who have done little to no vocal training, and that's given me more confidence on that front.

But the big one was Hbomberguy's recent plagiarism video. As I sat there watching it, I kept thinking about the time I found a CBR article that was just a crude 800 word summary of my two previous articles on Penders, published by a CBR writer who's put out over 4000 articles since 2019. If I've already been plagiarized before, and my writing is so frequently passed around as a go-to source on Archie Sonic drama, then I wouldn't be shocked if there were YouTubers out there straight up just plagiarizing me. I don't watch other peoples' videos on Archie Sonic, so I'd never know! So if people are just gonna paraphrase me when covering these topics anyway, why not take matters into my own hands and make what I would consider to be the definitive video on the subject? If hacks like James Somerton and iilluminaughtii can churn out these shitty video essays and people will still watch them, surely it can't be that impossible to make my own, right? (And also, uh, Hbomb literally told me I should make the video lol. If you're reading this, thanks for the encouragement.)

The what, how, and when

So here's the plan.

Part of this video essay will be an adaptation of my Medium article on the recurring themes of Ken's Archie Sonic run, with its content touched up and expanded upon. There were a few things I skimmed over in the article because I didn't want it to get too long, but again, people are out here watching ten hour videos about bad Nickelodeon sitcoms now. I can get away with elaborating a little more. I can add a few paragraphs talking about the Chaos Knuckles arc, or throw in a little more historical context I've discovered in the years since.

After covering the comics, the back half(-ish?) of the video will be dedicated to the copyright battles and their ensuing controversies, trying to give an accurate picture of what actually went down, the sheer scale of how bad Archie fucked up, and what our takeaways should be. This will have some similarities to my New York Magazine article on the subject, but I'll be rewriting it from scratch. I REALLY had to keep things short for that article because I was already way over the expected word count, and my tone was a little more straight-laced than normal because I was trying to keep things Professional. I can riff more and insert more of my own opinions this time, like I normally would.

I'll inevitably have to touch on some of Ken's Bad Tweets when discussing things that have happened after the lawsuits, but I don't want the video to just devolve into a list of times people got mad at him on Twitter, so I'm gonna try to keep that to a minimum in favor of focusing on his actual work. Things like the Scourge the Speed Demon incident and his continued statements on certain characters' copyright statuses probably warrant mentioning, though. And finally, assuming that the book really does come out this summer, I would like the grand finale of the video to be about those first couple chapters of The Lara-Su Chronicles.

I don't currently know when this video will get done, but it'll probably be in the back half of the year, especially with me waiting for the book to either drop or get delayed yet again. But I've actually already started writing a bit of the script, and will keep chipping away at it for a while.

Drunk Karaoke with Lando Norris under the cut😊

You quickly downed the shot thrust into your hand – sambuca, which meant it absolutely came from Lando since he was the only one who knew of your preference.  

He was on your left, sweaty and somehow wide awake despite the fact you’d been out for hours. Oscar was on your right, slowly swaying to the music with his eyes half shut. Somewhere across the club Charles and Pierre were dancing on an elevated surface while George videotaped them like a suburban soccer mom at her son’s first game. Here in Monaco, everyone partied post-race as if they themselves had made it to the top step over the weekend.

Out of nowhere, Lando fell into you as he shouted in your ear – “Do you know what I’ve always wanted to do?”

Oscar caught you before you could topple over, steadying you on your feet before shooting Lando a dirty look.

“Sorry, sorry,” Lando giggled. He centered himself and then put his hands on your shoulders, looking the most serious you’d ever seen him. “Anyway, do you know what I’ve always wanted to do?”

“Win at Silverstone? Become world champion?”

“Well, yes, but think smaller, you lunatic. Something I could do right now.”

“Out drink Max?”

“What? No, I don’t care about outdrinking Max, where did that come from?”

“Well, I just thought since he usually wins every race that you’d want to beat him at something – ”

“Oh my god, you’re impossible,” Oscar interjected. “He wants to do drunk karaoke. When we went out in Miami he was practically on his knees begging me to sing with him.”

A giant grin spread across your face as you playfully swatted Lando’s chest.

“Why didn’t you just say so? I happen to be an excellent karaoke partner,” you boasted.

Lando clapped his hands and jumped around like a toddler at your remark – “So, you’ll do it with me?”

Instead of answering, you snatched his hand and pulled him through the club at an impressive speed. You weren’t in a karaoke bar, quite far from it, but you planted yourself in front of the DJ booth and gestured to Lando. Security immediately pulled you both into the booth, perks of having Lando at your side, and the DJ of the night asked what she could do for you.

“Hi! Lando Norris wants to do drunk karaoke and I’m trusting that you can make that happen. It’s very important to him,” you professed.

“I think I might have a couple instrumentals or could make some magic happen. Any specific requests? You won’t have any lyrics on screen, though. And you’ll have to share a mic.”

Before you could ask what your options were, Lando was shouting, once again, in your ear.

“DO YOU HAVE THE SPICE GIRLS? THAT ONE SPICE GIRLS SONG?”

“Lando, we won’t have the lyrics,” you reminded him.

“I don’t need them,” he declared, crossing his arms with attitude. “Maybe you need them, fake fan.”

“I most certainly do not,” you yelled back to Lando. “DJ, roll the track. Pretty please. You're amazing."

She chuckled and handed you the singular mic, Lando immediately snatching it from your hands.

“It’s my dream, I get to hold the mic.”

You rolled your eyes and fought back a smile, stepping into his side as he threw an arm around you.

The deafening bass from the speakers grew quiet as the DJ addressed the crowd of people – “we’ve got a special surprise tonight! These two lovely friends of mine up here are going to perform a special number for everyone. Please welcome – ”

She paused, waiting for you and Lando to introduce yourselves.

“LANDO NORRIS AND Y/N Y/L/N.”

“Please welcome Lando Norris and Y/N Y/L/N to my booth. Show them some love!”

The clapping and cheering brought the volume in the club back to an obscene level – the loudest cheers coming from a VIP table not far from the booth where all of your friends had gathered.

Before you had a chance to feel the slightest bit self-conscious, the infamous laugh rang through the speakers and Lando was scream-singing into the mic.

 “YO, I’LL YOU WHAT I WANT, WHAT I REALLY, REALLY WANT!”

The two of you in perfect sync, passing lines back and forth, singing (if you could call it that) in unison during the chorus. You could have sworn you heard George shout out that this was “his song” and Max was most definitely telling anyone who would listen that he personally knows Ginger Spice.  

You tore your eyes from the audience to look at Lando – the smile on his face rivaling the brightest sunny day. With his arm around you, squeezing you to his side, your closest friends cheering for you, your heart was sure to burst from happiness. There was no place you’d rather be in that moment than making a drunken fool of yourself with the most important person in your life by your side.

And if Lando was thinking the same thing, about how he was happier in that moment than he’d ever been, podiums and race win included, he’d keep that to himself for just a minute more.

The first Hualian's kiss was one of the funniest things I've ever read. Every page was funny sjksks.

First, Xie Lian reverting straight (ahem not so straight but anyways) to Crown Prince of Xianle and going who DARES??? Who could!?! NEVER in his LIFE have I been treated this way. If this were anyone else, he would have stabbed them way before they could ever lay their hands on him.

But it's Hua Cheng!! His San Lang. And can ghosts transfer air to me!? Don't ghosts drown?? (Yes, I memorized the kiss scene. My memory is terrible, but I remember this vividly. I need help.)

And he's feeling overwhelmed that he lost his sense of self. He literally felt so overwhelmed he felt like crying. That part just made me sjskksks, feeling many things.

And then they break apart and stare deeply into one another's eyes and there's like twenty paragraphs of Xie Lian's monologue of how everytime Hua Cheng appears he just looks more older, more handsomer, more better, and omg is that a widow's peak??? Look at his eyepatch that exceeds a beautiful murderous aura, which should technically mute his elegance, but it actually balances his good looks perfectly.

Like. Okay, Xie Lian.

Poor Xie Lian. He's in such a rattled state. That kiss was way too amazing, Hua Cheng.

Usually he doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. That's normal. Now he doesn't know if he's hungry or sleepy.

And oh, look. He lost his bamboo hat. The hat he had for the last 800 years (shit, don't cry again this is supposed to be funny dammit), gone because of how mind-boggling that kiss was.

"I... I can't find it. I'm leaving now. I'm going home to eat... I need to go collect some scraps..."

Dying. He's so shaken. He's full-on panicking. He's like this is it. Hundred years of locked up and nailed to a coffin is nothing. I finally lost my marbles.

And then Hua Cheng's like "...I'm sorry."

The scream that tore out of my throat lmao. Anyways. I 1000% believe Hua Cheng.exe also stopped working at that point.

Then he was rebooted back online once he realized that Xie Lian was just casually hobbling on his injured foot, which you know had a nail embedded deep into it.

And Xie Lian is just absolutely losing it, especially when he realizes they're in Ghost City.

Not all the ghosts exitingly shouting if Hua Cheng needs help raping Xie Lian 😭😭😭

Oh my gods. That part. And Xie Lian at this point just feeling grateful he lost his 'fake baby' and didn't appear pregnant anymore 😆 (MXTX is really pushing the mpreg agenda, huh?)

And then finally when Xie Lian calms down a bit, his next thoughts are like... the state preceptor only warned me about the wiles of women :((

So. I began a book called Shadow Dance by Anne Stuart. I'm about halfway through, and I want to begin by saying that there has been some Problematic Content thus far, but like, most of it is generalized to Anne Stuart (dubcon-y threats and past SA, though not as much as I read in A Rose at Midnight on either front by a looong shot) and a couple things are very 1993 of it all (there's a child predator briefly in the beginning who's kind of played as a foppish stereotype, the single use of the word "sodomite" and his "perversions", though to be fair, I think that's more on the child predator front than anything else... and course the heroine grew up in Egypt so there are some light orientalist-ish references because historical written in early 90s).....

BUT WITH THAT OUTTA THE WAY, on to ONE OF THE WILDEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ

So we begin with our primary hero, Phelan (Anne Stuart loves a primary/secondary romance, and guess what, the degree to which she kills both of them is a testament to how writers today need to shape UP because Anne is out here selling two loves tories in a <400 page book than a lot of people sell one in 800 pages at the moment) walking in to find his father stabbed to death and his CRAZY mother accusing his illegitimate half-brother Valerian of doing it.

Exciting, but not that weird, right?

WELL.

Flash forward a year or something, and we're in the mind of our primary heroine, Juliette, who is disguised as a boy, Julian, on the run from her horrible husband. She's looking for work, and again, this is all fun and vibrant but it's not that WEIRD.

WELL AGAIN.

Juliette, who looks like a teenage boy because she's actually 22-year-old girl, is thisclose to being preyed upon by aforementioned gross predator, when she's offered work by this random vicar guy and his wife, a beautiful but VERY TALL, BROAD LADY WITH MASSIVE FEET.

And if you're saying "surely not" I'm saying "surely yes", that is accused murderer, gorgeous rake Valerian, dressed in drag, and on the run with his loving and very put-upon older brother Phelan, who is in fact pretending to be his husband (and to be clear: all of this is implied to have been Phelan's BRILLIANT PLAN because he's a control freak with severe trust issues and an honestly incredibly sweet love for his little brother)

So you're treated to all these scenes of Phelan bitching at Valerian while trying to lace his corset, and Valerian being like "I HATE CURLING MY HAIR LIKE THIS" because he's also a Prime Pouty Hero, and being horrified when he finds out that Phelan is TELLING EVERYONE HE'S PREGNANT in order to excuse his weird body type, and like???

Going back to there being two romances... Our primary love story is Phelan, again a control freak and I must say, DUUUUUUMB hot, and Juliette, who spends like the first quarter of this book desperately trying to convince him she's a boy (she is also a misandrist lmao) even though Phelan and Valerian (who Juliette does not suspect of being a man at all because Val is a pretty boy) both immediately went "yeah that's a girl"... So she keeps on being like "I'M JUST A MITE OF A LAD" "I AIN'T DONE GROWIN'" or, when she wakes up to find that Phelan sketched her while she was sleeping, "YOU MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A GIRL". And Phelan keeps responding in the most laaaanguid draaaawling way possible with like "You. Are the boldest person. I have ever met.", tilting Julian/Juliette's chin up to look deeply into her eyes, making it very clear to Valerian that he CANNOT touch Juliette, even though Phelan has NOOOO intention of touching her himself, because he is again, a control freak who trusts no one but Valerian.

And meeeeanwhile, we have Valerian, who is completely besotted with this kinda incredibly naive and dumb but utterly charming bluestocking, Sophie. I was kinda worried that Valerian would come off as a predatory drag queen stereotype, but LMAO HE IS GENUINELY IN LOVE. He wants to get with her, he knows he can't (he DOES tell Sophie at one point that he has an identical twin brother but nothing has come of THAT particularly play yet) and so he's like, resigned himself to making sure she doesn't marry a loser, while spending as much time with her as possible, in the guise of her experienced married lady friend.

WHICH LEADS TO. One of the most dirtybadwrong scenes I've ever read. Even though technically, NOTHING HAPPENED. In which Sophie reveals that her mother told her about the "practicalities" of marriage, and it sounds like it SUCKS :( so she might as well marry this boring dude.

WELL AGAIN AGAIN.

Valerian/Valerie CANNOT HAVE THAT. And AS SUCH! He's all "let me tell you a thing", which quickly turns into something WAY WEIRDER when Sophie is all "omg tell me girl" while resting her head in his lap. V. DIFFICULT FOR HIM. And he proceeds to give her the most erotic Sex Ed I have ever read, which goes on and on and he is having an increasingly present Issue, and Sophie is all blushing and like "well that sounds pretty solid", and there is much twining of the hair, and some pretty GRAPHIC descriptions of what a man may do if he ~loves you~ and. I was shocked! Shocked, I say! Shocked into a fit of laughter!

anyway not done with it yet but thus far a banger I must say

what I make is WILDLY inconsistent from month to month, which is inconvenient, so it needs to be planned around. I could make $600 or $8k depending on the customers, my health, whether or not I made any content for passive sales recently... my average when you take into account my best customer is about $200/hr, but if I were to just talk to a rando on the phone instead of fucking around with my whale, my rate has me earning about $120/hr. that doesn't include anything extra, like tributes (tips, basically), content buys, or things like that.

that also doesn't mean I WILL make that much just by being signed on. I could wait for hours for a 2-minute call, or I could talk for 3 hours to the same guy and rake in bank. it all depends.

for me, with the niches I've picked, it comes pretty naturally. I've always been a very sexual person, so this career progression wasn't too difficult for me! the hardest part is making sure at the start to learn all the common scams so you can stop yourself from falling for them.

and BOUNDARIES! especially for people who have been socialized not to "rock the boat," it can be difficult to enforce them at first. but you need to be able to do that in this business! even if you market as submissive, stand firm!

but as far as the actual work goes... some guys are more difficult than others because their kinks aren't as familiar to me, or they're really picky, or I need to be tuned the fuck in the entire time... usually though, it's a lot of being mean, laughing at their tiny dicks, and taunting them with my body, which is easy peasy by now!

ok, I guess I lied a bit... when you're independent, there's also the matter of things like marketing, graphic design, audiovisual editing... the clerical work is a SLOG! so be aware if you try to go into it that that's what you're in for. it's a job like any other, so it's not a total breeze!

TAXES TOO!! you have to do them on your own, or get a sex worker-friendly accountant (lots will turn you down if you do 18+ work). so set aside 30% for that (or however much for your area)!

as for its similarities to 1-800-SALAMANCA, I actually based a lot of the content off of my real experiences! I modeled early Nacho off of some of my most annoying customers, lmao. the stubbornness, the hanging up without saying bye, the "you're the Dom, aren't you supposed to tell me my own kinks without me giving you any info???" bullshit, deleting and remaking the account... a little bit of a vent story there, LOL!

now, I don't have as glamorous a career as Lalo, nor do I have nearly as many finsubs. but I've done my fair share of findom before, so Lalo's personality is sort of a mixture of my persona and how I'd imagine him as a character to act! also, the site they use is named the way it is because it's a parody of the site I mainly work on, lmao. but with improved functionality.

I got into it because I had health issues that caused me to quit my vanilla job. I tried to be a freelance writer for a while... what a mistake! I should have gotten right into sex work, then maybe I wouldn't have had to piss through all my savings. I just figured, I like sex, camgirls make money, I'm hot... why not?

as for whether I'd recommend it... I'd say yes, but with caveats. you have to be a certain type of person: firm with boundaries, decently creative, strong stomach, resilient to negative comments and insults directed toward both your body and personality, strong sense of marketing and design (or willing to learn), and the drive to keep going even when it's slow.

what you do NOT have to be: conventionally attractive, allosexual, a nymphomaniac, non-monogamous, white, skinny, cis, big-boobed, attracted to men, completely confident with your body, a total master of everything, into every kink. of course, having some or all of these things will certainly help you (hello privilege), but ANYONE of any sex, gender, color or creed can do this! trust me: there are men attracted to EVERY type of person. and they WILL pay to get what they want (your attention/content).

so I'd say go for it if you think you'd like it, but DO. YOUR. RESEARCH. FIRST! lots of it! you're NOT going to make it big selling feet pics on onlyfans as a total newbie. you CAN make a decent (or amazing) living off of it if you have dedication, creativity, patience, and time, though!

it was really fun to recap this, but damn, I hate my work lol anyways, sorry here's my top 10:

v's bday post: it seems that i should start with this one, this was so challenging for myself. it was the first time making a gfx and it came out okay (i guess?). earlier this year i set a goal for myself that in 13 years (yes 13 lol) of making gifs i would do a blending/gfx for the first time and here it is. happy that i reach that goal at least.

3D mv set: this set was a turning point for me. when i created this blog, my goal was to post at least one set per week or every 3 days of my biases in order (as my url). but then i started to see people's reactions and it was so positive with this set, i kind of wanted to give in for good and return to this life as a tumblr gifmaker for bangtan.

this jimin fancam set: at this point, i think it's one of my bestest works in terms of colouring. i'm really happy w these.

vicnic highlights: this set doesn't have anything so extraordinary about it, apart from the fact that i stopped to cry a few times cuz i was so emotional seeing tae and jimin... god. but i like the lights (wich is not my merit lmao).

golden album preview: i admit, this one i'm proud of. proud of my brain for thinking on that dynamics, proud of my colouring and proud how i managed these gifs.

standing next to you: i was in peace w photshop that day. get really inspired by that mv i guess. like this colouring a lot, i still use this psd for some other gifsets of SNTY, so yeah it's pretty good :)

hmm. kind of yes and kind of no? jihan and hue aren't fully actualized foils of each other, but in some ways they are? i think mostly in terms of how they handle love. hue is very, it's better to have never loved so you never experience loss because he's so... young in certain ways. yeah he's in his 40s, but jihan is 800+ and has a completely different outlook on loving and losing because he's just... wiser? even if jihan wouldn't say that himself, i'm saying it because he is. all love is worth having even if its fleeting is how jihan approaches life and even if sometimes he does wish he didn't feel such attachment (like some of his vampire friends tend to forgoe relationships with mortals entirely even friendships to avoid this heartbreak) jihan can't help but be enamored by life and love. so in some ways they are but they're also very alike so its not a full literary foil device tm.

17 - Are they keeping a secret together? How do they feel about that?

well, the secret being they're "divorced". there's a lot of caveats because of the wrp they techncially can't get Legally divorced, and hue DEFINITELY doesn't want to tell his sisters or their friends about it cuz they'll kick his ass. so he sort of swore jihan to secrecy and bc jihan is whipped he agreed. both of them feel terrible about everything for a variety of reasons and tbh it doesn't even take long for word to get out and the mess to begin so it was kinda for naught pff.

21 - What is their worst memory together? (aside from getting divorced/being divorced)

love the caveat LMAO. i think it would be the time that ozzy got really really sick with pneumonia. like she was in the hospital and they thought she might die because the illness and the meds were having a REALLY BAD counterreaction with her magic so that was a stressful... month and some change. they were both absolutely run ragged and they had to have esther stay with hue's eldest sister, agni, for awhile because they just couldn't deal with trying to take care of her (esther was like 8-9 when this happened and ozzy was like 4-5) and also be at the hospital with ozzy. telling the girl's bio-mom, who hue and jihan are actually good friends with, was probably the worst part about this entire mess it was just a nightmare for everyone involved lol.

99,518 (which my heart was immediately keen on saying it's "not that much" but all these words were written in the last year 365-ish days, which makes me very very proud)

i'm still on my fandom whoring phase and loving it very much!!! i think it's mostly AFTG but I’ve dabbled in some Simon Snow and Check, Please! recently and have some more plans for those 🥰 honestly there is a RIDICULOUS amount of fandoms in my fic planning trello board, including: Call of Duty, The Raven Cycle, Red White and Royal Blue, BBC Merlin, and Our Flag Means Death. i love living in chaos!!!!

I do! Or I try to, anyway. Why? Uhhh. Because I want to, really. I'm not one of those people who feels like they have to, especially because as a commenter I don't expect writers to ever reply. But I love chatting fandom stuff and fic — mine or otherwise, so I always treat comments as an opportunity to do so. Sometimes I think I have a super random, like... reply style, I guess you'd call it? But I'd rather engage a fellow fan in genuine conversation rather than say just "thank you," which obviously is still what I end up doing like 70% of the time.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is funny for me to think about because in former fandoms I was a bit of an Angst Guy lmao (mcd, unrequited love, cheating, miscommunication, you name it)... but I'm on a softer vibe now for sure. I think maybe a wreath of white lilies is my angstiest work but even that i wouldn't classify as angst? it's fucked up smut, if anything lmao

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Uhhhh, I guess growing pains? It's a very hopeful, very happy ending with a lot of closure for stuff happening both within the fic and before. So yeah! I think that one. Very romcom-y neat sort of happy ending!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

i have in the past but not anymore! i'm not good enough nor bad enough to get hate jkfgjhd

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

yeah, baby!!!! what kind...? uh. good question. i feel like i always end up writing porn with a ton of feelings — not just love/lust though! but i do love a Strong Emotion (hatred, grief, confusion, relief, obsession) to be the catalyst for fucking. I like it when characters are seriously into each other (again, not necessarily only in an attraction way), in a little insane way. it just makes things fun. so i guess... my smut is the Big Feelings kind of smut lol

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

oh i haven't... but i do have a bit of a wild one i've considered! not sure if i'd ever actually write it though, but it's planned out.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

in an earlier fandom existence, yes! it may even be around still, who knows? now... not that i know of?

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

i don't think i have! would love it though! i grew up bilingual so i have a lot of love for translation :') i'd actually love to try my hand at translating one day!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

i have started co-writing fics with a couple of people before, but not something super serious and either times it never got finished. buuuuut i am actually in the process of co-writing not one but two fics atm! @skeptiquewrites and i are working on a zimbits flavoured little something, and @whataboutmyfries and i are very nearly done with our kandreil get-together fic, which is really exciting.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

hate this question actually LMAO i am a multishipper at heart. a good fic can convince me of ANYTHING. like my favourite ship when i stopped writing hp was two guys who weren't ever even alive at the same time so???? anything goes truly.

for the sake of nostalgia, it might still be remus/sirius, because they were my introduction to fandom and all its joys! but that fandom is kind of tainted these days >:(

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

hahaha so many!!! i have a catholic priest Neil fic that is a very fun idea but requires a ton of lore because it's so removed from canon... the kink is juicy but the laziness might be stronger. we shall see.

16. What are your writing strengths?

descriptions, baby!!!!! details!!! i want to say characterisation but i don't think that's always true... i just love thinking very deeply about the details of characterisation.. the little seemingly unimportant tidbits you can add in about a character that just tell you a ton about them without you having to spell it all out! i find that fun, even if it doesn't always work lol

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue... i hate it... i simply do not know how people talk... i don't know why they have to either LOL top ten most mortifying moments of my life was when a pal was beta reading a fic for me and said "hey there's no dialogue in this for the first like 5k at all... maybe we should do something about that" rip

i am also very bad at ensemble casts... while the weakness above is something i can't avoid, this one is a lot more avoidable but also something i am actively working on. i feel like my fics are very closed in on my MCs and their relationship but as a reader i love when the characters have meaningful interactions outside of that... so i'm trying to get better at that, even if it's really fucking hard. i'm lucky enough to have a couple of pals who are INCREDIBLE at this so i'm taking notes all the time.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

big fan!!!! i love all methods of doing this too! add it in and provide translation at the end, weave the translation into the text, make the character themselves translate it, etc. i think it's great! i think i've done it maybe a couple of times but should definitely do more...

19. First fandom you wrote for?

you already know what i'm gonna say... HP. i am of that specific generation and i'm just gonna have to live with that lol

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

So. The story so far.

YES THERE WILL BE SPOILERS

So. Firstly I would give One Piece an overall 9 as an anime. From what I've seen and heard, the show has kept up even after 20 years, thanks to the wonderful Oda, and that is very important to me as an avid watcher.

True, I never made it past episode 60 the first time I watched, I don't think, HOWEVER!!! That doesn't mean I disliked the show, I liked it a lot. I just probably have ADHD (╥_╥) which means a lot of the longer shows I want to watch get put down by accident because a new shiny show comes out that I want to watch then and there... (I'm looking at you Jujutsu Kaisen (๑•̀ᗝ•́)૭.

I restarted the anime about a week ago during my move into my new apartment at episode 45, as it's the last episode I can fully remember (though I did skip through a little because I can't lie... the Buggy filler episodes were not my thing) "૮₍ ˶•⤙•˶ ₎ა I also know that the Netflix live action ends around episode 45 as well, which- I'm happy to say, is probably the ONLY live action adaptation of an anime (apart from the theatre productions of studio ghibli films like My Neighbour Totoro) that ACTUALLY WORKED!!! Also, Jamie Lee Curtis, a true One Piece fan loved it! Plus, both Oda and Mayumi have crowned Iñaki as the real world Luffy SO SUCK ON THAT HATERS!!! True, I didn't watch the live action fully, as my friend was watching it whilst I played dragon quest 11 (good game) but I got the gist of it, and it was really good from what I could see.

NOW!! ON TO THE GOOD SHIZ!!!

I am currently on episode 57, as of writing this, which means Chopper is only 24 episodes away ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽ つ And I NEED to meet the baby!! I'm currently watching the crew sail with this little dragon doo dad (who I cannot remember the species name, but his name from Apis is Ryujii.) And shit just started happening. The boat is a rocking, the sky is raining, Zoro and Apis currently have rope burn. It's a good episode. If I recall correctly, they're about to enter the Grand Line?? I know they're right next to it at least, but I think they're trying to get Ryujii home- I just realised that they just landed on the island I am dumb. There was a strange wispy of wind a second ago, which means that one guy is likely already on the island with them I think. Who knows "૮₍ ˶•⤙•˶ ₎ა. Either way, once again this show is showing how corrupt the government system is lmao.

Anyhoo, overall, I don't think One Piece can really be judged by episodes, unless you talk about the live action. I'd say a better judgement would be going by arcs? I will say, this arc is pretty mid, just because I've seen it before and because I don't think Apis as a character is good whatsoever. She's just kind of that npc character in an rpg that directs you on a fetch quest before telling you that she must be protected as she's annoyingly coming with instead of staying home safe- oh wait she's the only one who can talk to the dragon and therefore knows where the fetch quest main area is. Great. Yeah, she's extremely mid now that I think about it.

I wouldn't skip this arc, just because I think all arcs leading up to the Grand Line are definitely important, HOWEVER, I do think she could've been in it less. The grampa would've had more to offer in my opinion, even if it was just comedic value. Plus, he could've been a secret badass who saves the day, who knows.

Also, as I'm writing this, my wifi CUT OUT (╥ᆺ╥；) so now I'm dying of death... (╥ᆺ╥；)(╥ᆺ╥；)(╥ᆺ╥；)

Anyways, I would recommend One Piece, but at the same time, if you aren't used to watching long form anime... gooooood luck. I can only do this because I watched Naruto and Shippuden a couple years back and that- ugh that hurt. One piece was still only one episode 800 too... It hurt so much. Yes it's a good anime BUT IT WOULD BE HALF THE LENGTH IF THEY CUT THE FILLER OUT, KILLED OFF SOME OF THE USELESS CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN NARUTO, REVEALED KAKASHI'S MOLE, AND CUT THE FIGHTS TO HALF THE LENGTH!!!!

Sorry, got emotional there. But yeah. One Piece? Good show. It also only has about 50 filler episodes out of the current 1076 episodes that are released. That's an achievement. Also I am now realising how quickly they must have pumped Naruto out if that show had 750 episodes plus movies...

Final thoughts? Watch One Piece. Don't watch Naruto. It isn't worth it. Also, idgaf if people disagree. If you watch Naruto, only watch Naruto. Don't bother with Shippuden. Hinata is the only good character after Naruto, but she isn't worth it.

🏅 What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing (finished a fic, actually planned for once, etc).

I finished Ch. 14 of Dust to Dust last night and that was huge. I mean, I know I say that every time I update that fic, but it's always true. It was also pretty big for me that I set myself a deadline and I kept to it! Was it out of spite for 5 years since ASM #800? Yes. Was it also out of extra spiteful spite for what we all know is going to happen in tomorrow's ASM? Yes. But that's not the point. I did it! And I reached a HUGE milestone! A scene - nay, two scenes I'd been struggling with not knowing how to approach them for literal years! Of course, couldn't have done it without Ama, but it is a joint effort LOL

⏰ Do you spend more time reading fic, writing fic, or do you do both equally?

Nowadays I write more fic than I read, I'm pretty sure. I dunno, I guess there's just not a lot out there that I'm curious about picking up? There are a few fics that, if they update, I will absolutely stuff them into my FACE I am eating them but for the most part I just haven't been interested in reading if they don't scratch a very particular itch for me at whatever point in time. (I say like I didn't read Redline like... five times over... and I'll probably read it again lmao)

👨‍👧‍👧 Do you tell people in real life that you write fic? 

Not really. A few of my close friends know, but when I was in middle school and high school all my friends knew about my Pokémon fics and would hit me up after updates to gush about them together. As I've gotten older, it's not so much that I feel embarrassed about it, so much as I have a somewhat carefully cultivated professional image I try to maintain. My coworkers and even my boss know I love comics and nerd stuff, obviously my family and friends know that too, but when they ask, "do you still write?" I say, "yeah," and usually leave it at some vague "I like to write sci-fi still, a little bit of romance" answer and that's satisfactory to everyone.

My gf was reading Dust to Dust but like, I'm not gonna bug her about it. 😂 I'm just happy she's still reading my comics, hehe.

I've been in fandom a Long time, so it shouldn't surprise me that people act like they have to defend people they don't know as if they've been personally attacked but Man...wrestling fandom really drags it back to those 2012 tumblr days lmao.

All I care about it getting fun weekly TV, good stories and PPVs worth the money. I promise the millionaire does not need people on tumblr being miserable and angry to 'defend' them.

and as someone who works in the entertainment business if I see one more person talking about ratings, tickets sales and 'being a draw' when they have 0 knowledge of how these things actually work I'm gonna become the joker

tldr being a "draw" or "ratings killer" doesn't exist!! all tv shows follow a pattern of where there quarterly numbers lie and very rarely deviate from that - overall ratings fluctuate 100,000 either side, which is why aew is always in the 800-900-1 million mark - that's normal, be worried when they drop into the 700s - say someone is a draw when they get close to 1.75 - advertisers care way more about a steady and high demo than overall numbers because those are the people likely to spend money

ticket sales are dependent on a huge number of factors, that yes, can sometimes be down to one person (see famous actors on stage shows) but vary hugely when considering sporting events as those tend not to have a fixed location like the Westend or broadway so timing, location etc play much more into it than just 1 singular person.

and now I'm annoyed that I even thought about this so much!! honestly I should just watch njpw exclusively because at least the discourse there is either in a language I can't read or so boring no one wants to talk about it.

ratings/tickets/money discourse makes me want to rip my hair out because it is every week the same thing gasp the rating dips drastically after the people who watch the lead in change the channel! gasp people change the channel after commercial breaks! gasp (insert a thousand repeated things that people act like is reflected by whoever is in whatever time slot that we're discussing) aew walk ups/day of ticket sales have been really solid lately, but you wouldn't know that because people act like the sky is falling and they're no tickets.

i went to a show *last week* in a new market, that was far from sold out, but i saw the line of people buying tickets and it was about as long as the line of people already waiting with them. so they sold more tickets and it was a nothing show without that much star power.

additionally, every time i hear "there's so much money to be made" i want to sit people down and ask them who is making that money - tk. of course he wants his workers (and i'll be neutral here, both sides have been negatively affected. punk feels as if his character was smeared and the bucks+ken were physically assaulted/feel this is a black mark on their characters too) to make him money by putting on their get along shirt. for all the "workers rights" crowd that isn't workers rights. that's a billionaire wanting to make money. there's back and forth about punk's contract, but again i'll be fair and assume no benefits either, but the evps contracts don't give them any ppv points, they aren't making any extra money off of this. only tk would, only the brand of aew as a whole could potentially maybe make more money potentially for A ppv cycle.

okay? and that's worth it. that's worth a whole slew of people on both sides being miserable, being forced to work with people they don't like and shouldn't have to work with. you can point blame at whoever, but we don't work there and i personally am only basing my opinion off of what i have seen in public and what both sides have agreed upon as a narrative. which is hangman said one thing in a promo nobody blinked about for months (AND HE WAS PUNISHED FOR! there was a meeting about this right away, he was kept off of the LA show, he still jobbed to Punk, but people act like he just got a free one on Punk when that's not what happened) until punk got his receipt which was cowardly because at least hangman said his piece to punk's face. phil had to embarrass and devalue a fellow coworker to get his back.

then there was the press conference, and anyone who watched that and tries to defend it idk i watched it live and i was shocked at what he was allowed to say. and it was out of line.

and then there was a fight and both sides have agreed punk threw the first punch. the elite brought legal (and the head of talent relations) with them to the place they had publicly just been invited to have a conversation with (either a fellow executive, an employee of aew, or someone who worked beneath them depending on what narrative is out there, i don't know so i don't care)

everything else is hearsay, everything else i don't work there i don't care. this is what i saw, this is what i have been told by punk/dax/whoever from the elite side has talked (which a lot of reporters have repeatedly said no one from that side has talked beyond confirming questions here and there early on, but they haven't talked in months) from what i saw as a viewer i don't want this guy back. i've watched a bunch of other sports things, you don't just put your get along shirt on you get traded, you get suspended. that is life.

punk has been harmed in this, the elite have been harmed in this, i do not understand why anyone is pushing the false narrative about tickets/ratings/making money. i don't know why they want (beyond they like these people as fans) everyone to come back together. it's not good. there was an investigation!!! it concluded with the elite being back to work and punk not. there you go.

tk has the final say at the end of the day and i think it is gross as a boss who was negligent and let this fester in his workplace to now profit off of it. but what do i know.

I've said it before (maybe not in our conversations?) but tbh I credit myself being autistic for my portrayal. Autistic hyperfixations are a hell of a drug.... sometimes literally. I am thinking about Lucifer pretty much 24/7 lol
