idk if anyone's aware of this, but the original snail assassin meme was a joke from the rooster teeth podcast that gavin free made almost exactly ten years ago, and know your meme actually did a video with him about it a couple years back talking about where it came from and how popular it had gotten outside the rt community, particularly on tiktok. super interesting to see it made real in wild life, i always think it's so interesting to see old rt stuff come up outside of that context :O also it's just fun to actually know the origin of a big internet meme, i think i watched that podcast episode live so it feels really wild that it's fully been a decade since then

Yes we went to see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (aka Aquaman 2) and yes of course there was collectable goodies which you can see here!
but yeah over the Holidays we went to see Aquaman and the final chapter of the DCEU also known as the "SnyderVerse" it is kinda sad to see it go I think because I enjoyed all the movies but this universe has met its Zero Hour (see what I did there? comic fans will get that reference) and the Universe will be remade anew.
Now as for the movie itself personally I thought it was great! Its really fun, exciting, there is some humor and also I believe a deeper message about protecting the environment, the importants of family, legacy, and taking care of your responsibilities and doing the right thing even when its hard. The story picks up some time after the first Aquaman maybe a year or so and we find Arthur in a bit of of a funk almost he is enjoying being "Aquaman" and he is also enjoying being a Husband and a father now as well but he is not enjoying being the King of Atlantis. and while this is going on Manta is actively looking for a way to get his revenge on Aquaman and finds an ancient lost Kingdom of Necrus which was removed from history and buried in the ice of Antarctica as well as the Black Trident with this new powerful and devastating weapon he can now get his revenge. because of this Aquaman must team up with Orm and the 2 go on a crazy adventure to find and defeat the now possesed Manta before he destroys the world by unleashing the evil of Necrus on the world.
Now like I said I thought the movie was great I really enjoyed it it has plenty of nice action and it is visually impressive!! the production design and all the creatures and under sea life and monsters and everything its just all wow! you want to pause it and just look at everything. like the The desert creatures when Aquaman goes to rescue Orm and the monstrous zombie like creatures from Necrus you just want to look at all the fine detail from a design stand point. but yeah the movie is impressive visually like if you thought the first one was something this one tops that with the worlds and locations that it creates and shows.
now I know people have complained about them teaming up Aquaman with Orm and heard some say that they are a second rate "Thor and Loki" to which I say so? I feel that Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson play off each other very well were Patrick Wilson is the more serious one and Jason Momoa is more comedic I liked their pairing in this. It was good when they were opposite each other in the first movie but having them on the same team and having them kinda riffing on each other and trying to one up each other at times with some great banter made alot of there scenes together fun and interesting and the "Thor and Loki" comparison was noticed and Aquaman at one point in the third act when they are on the island hunting down Manta he calls Orm "Loki" which I thought was pretty funny. and not only that there is a second Marvel reference where the movie ending is kinda funny were it ends pretty much the same way as Iron Man did in 2008.
Now where things are ending I thought Jason Momoa was a great Aquaman he took a character that everyone thought was a joke and made it into something cool and one of the reasons I liked him as this character is he reminded me of the version of Aquaman from the Batman: the Brave and the Bold animated series I feel the 2 of them are very similar and the only thing I wanted from Jason Momoa's Aquaman was for him to say "Outrageous" that would have made me so happy but sadly it didn't happen. but I did think he was great for this character. Now as for his future many have said he'll be returning as Lobo in he New DCU and I think he would do a great job as "The Main Man" that is another character that would suit him but only time will tell.
As for Amber Heard people were saying that she was removed or her role was reduced to a couple of scenes which its not. She is in it quite a bit from what I seen, she is in the first of it and gets taken out by Manta and she is not in the middle of the movie but reappears in the 3rd act and is in it for the ending and all that I would say she was in for maybe 15-20mins? no more then 25mins tops I'd say. I thought she was good as Mera but I can't really say she is one of my favorite people I do think she is most likely more nutty then a bag of squirrels after what you see on that whole trial thing but you just have to separate the art from the artist so to speak her personal life should have nothing to do with the character she is playing.
but in the end like I said I thought the movie was great I enjoyed it and the people I went with seemed to like it too so that is it the focus has been taken off Earth-1 (the DCEU) and in true comic book fashion everything is being retconned and rebooted and a new universe is being created. but I did like this movie and if your curious then give it a watch. Also there is a mid credits scene that is related to something earlier in the movie.

I admit to being confused about the fandom reactions to Jester's chosen name. I mean I thought it was well known fact that tieflings pick out their own names when old enough? Laura definitely brought it up in Talks early on, I know that much. but also.... jester pls my heart... beau pls why u... laugh...
Oh daaang. I didn’t personally know that about tieflings, but that makes sense. I think yeah, a lot of it isn’t necessarily just the surprise of having Jester choose a name, but that + the fact that identity/choosing a personal path has been such a present theme throughout this whole campaign.
(There is definitely the fact that it has a lot of themes that are resonating with trans critters, re choosing names & self and etc but I don’t think I’m qualified to speak on that specifically.)
Like I made the obvious joke of “Oh JESTER HAS A SECRET PAST IDENTITY TOO”, but the questions of identity and choice and names specifically have been super present in C2 and it fits in real neatly. Because Jester chose that name as something she wanted to be. Someone to make people laugh and spread entertainment (and also to deliver truth in unexpected ways, perpetually underestimated by the people in power who laugh and overlook the person with the most power in the court).
The second campaign has been, over and over, about people who were saddled with expectations or roles or responsibilities or a god or a form or a past, or just a life that they didn’t want, or that didn’t fit, in some way or another. And people who remade themselves as a result. And its neat to have Jester join the ranks, in that way, and its even more impressive in light of the whole Hag Situation where we were all given a very strong reminder of how Jester Chooses Her Happiness. She was given the name Genevieve, sure, but that doesn’t really matter, because she chose to be called Jester instead, and she has grown into her name and made it hers in every way that matters. There’s something real beautiful and resonant about that, esp in context of the whole campaign, so I think people are excited, and touched.
(me included).
But yeah; Beau laughing was. Ouch. Like it makes sense that its funny because Tusk Love! No wonder! But the fact that she kept laughing, after Jester told her to stop, and she didn’t stop until Jester was visibly upset was… hmm. I don’t think its unrelated to Beau’s current headspace. It made me sad. I hope they talk about it soon.
(also for the sake of brevity i won’t go into them too deeply here but some additional thoughts: The fact that this was a secret, but it wasn’t one that needed to be shared. Not in the way that Caleb’s past weighs on him, or how Beau was cutting herself clean from the Lionett name (and running from it in equal measure), or how Nott is finding herself torn between her old name and new. Jester chose a new name, and it is, her name, in all the ways that matter and that’s basically the end of it, really. There was a different name once upon a time, but Jester doesn’t need to hold onto it, and it has no hold on her.)(ALSO: something about how she used to see herself as the protagonist in Tusk Love, and doesn’t anymore, as she grows and learns about both herself and romance outside of just the erotica genre, but I haven’t thought about that deeply enough yet.)
(also also: just all the meanings of a jester specifically and the significance in Force Of Nature, Master of Being Underestimated Jester Lavorre choosing that)

Christmas Bonus (Scyvie) - Phryne
A/N: Hi y’all. Here’s the last Starbucks au drabble of the ficmas season :(. Good news is, you can read more of this au in a week or so when I’m finished with the whole fic. Comment and reblog if you enjoyed!
“Just give me five more minutes, yeah?” Scarlet called across the counter, pouring milk into a cold cup.
Yvie nodded, still waiting for Scarlet to finally get her lunch break so they could go out to the new sushi place down the block that Scarlet seemed excited to try. But the store was swamped, overfilled with people and sounds, Scarlet rushing around behind the counter to accommodate for the pre-lunch rush.
Yvie fingered at a white felt stocking that hung in front of the pick-up counter, with its messy red stitches along the edges and along the little silver stars decorating the front and back, Scarlet piped along the top in silver glitter in her perfect loopy handwriting.
“Cute decorations, babe,” Yvie said to Scarlet, watching her drop off two iced lattes at the end of the counter. “You got your own stocking.”
“Yeah.” Scarlet turned away for a moment, taking up the drink in her hand, scanning over its markings with speed and accuracy. “Iced venti chai for Megan,” she shouted over the mounting din, handing it off to Megan with a little slip of paper, a grin, and a have a wonderful holiday, Megan in her all too cheerful tone. Far, far too cheerful for being covered in what looked to be dried, spilled milk.
A man picked up the other drink. She nodded, wishing him a happy holiday as well, ripping off another slip of paper and handing it to him. At the sight of the little snowman drawn on his cup, he thanked her.
Scarlet turned back to Yvie, pulling her hair back and resecuring it with a silver scrunchie. “Yeah so the stocking isn’t really decoration, it’s for customers to vote for their favorite or best barista.” Scarlet held up a pad of tear off paper, shaped like Holiday Starbucks cups, tapping at it adamantly. “Whoever gets the most votes gets a bonus. It’s like a morale booster.”
Yvie studied Scarlet as she held up the pad of coffee cups, how her eyes crinkled at her edges; how she leaned forward, explaining that everyone who got a drink got one of them to vote with; how she peered over the lip of the counter before asking Yvie to “guestimate…how many votes do I have?” She pulled herself up, looking Yvie in the eye. “Like, more or less than twelve?”
Yvie crouched down, poking at each stocking. Really, all of them looked nearly empty. She could see a few slips stuck in Scarlet’s stocking though. And a straw wrapper. But a few votes for sure.
“Uh, I don’t think a lot of people are voting,” Yvie replied gently, watching as Scarlet pressed her lips together before putting a smile back on.
“So that means less than twelve.”
She couldn’t understand Scarlet’s fixation on having these votes, but she did understand that Scarlet had to feel hurt by this contest, especially given that her past confidence wasn’t misplaced—if people were voting, she’d be blowing all the other baristas out of the water.
“Yes, but no one else—”
“It’s fine, Yvie.” Scarlet sighed, restocking the sleeves. “I would have liked the money, maybe use it for some new headshots, but it’s whatever. It’s literally fine.” She glanced off into the store, noticing the diminished line. She untied her apron. “Let’s just go to lunch, yeah?”
At the sight of Scarlet’s tight little frown, surely trying in vain to assure Yvie that she really was fine with not getting these little votes, being looked over despite all her hard work, Yvie decided to do something about it. Something bold. She snatched up the little pad of paper from the counter and climbed on the coffee table.
“Attention. Everyone’s attention,” she bellowed, voice warm, forceful, a slowly spreading fire, continuing only when she had enough eyes on her. Continuing despite Scarlet’s shuffling, apron still half on, eyes darting between her girlfriend and the customers.
It was time to put forth a few arguments. She was a lawyer after all.
“I am under the impression that we all received one of these slips of paper, yes?” She held up the little pad, earning a grumble in response, a few people digging through their jacket pockets to find it.
“You may use this paper to vote for your favorite barista, using the corresponding stocking, to my left.” She glanced over, finding Scarlet stuck in the same position, still fixed on the scene Yvie was putting on.
“I will be placing my vote for Scarlet, and I firmly believe you all should as well.” Yvie held up her latte from that morning, now cold, containing only the last dregs of espresso. “Every coffee Scarlet made today has a snowman drawn on the side of it. She takes the time to make us cute little drawings to brighten our days.” She watched as a few people turned their cups around, peering over at the little snowman, chuckling at his little stick hands, some of her drawings featuring speech bubbles with funny snowman sayings in them.
“Furthermore, Scarlet gives everyone a personalized greeting and the occasional bad holiday joke. You cannot leave here without your day being even the slightest bit brightened by that care and kindness.”
“And lastly, Scarlet—” Yvie pointed over at her, voice softening, her timbre warm and crackling as opposed to the fire before. “Scarlet is the nicest, most positive person here. She has remade countless drinks with a smile. She has burns all over her fingers from toasting your bagels just right and steaming your milk.” She fixed her gaze to Scarlet. “She has dreams beyond this. She is beyond this. And yet she comes in every day ready and able to make everyone she meets day—hell, sometimes their life—better.” She faced the crowd once more, tearing off a slip of paper, waving it out in front of her. “Your vote is the least she deserves. Thank you.”
Yvie stepped down, returning to the counter to gather her things and take Scarlet out to lunch.
Scarlet looked between Yvie and the people who began to step forward, sticking their slips in Scarlet’s stocking, exhaling peacefully, her brow faltering, eyes watery. “Thank you. You didn’t have—”
Yvie shook her head adamantly. “Yes I did. Let’s get lunch babe.”
So Scarlet grabbed her coat and bag, rounding the counter, taking Yvie’s hand in hers as they strode out of the store and out into the bustling street.
Yvie stroked he knuckles with her thumb, waiting for the do not crosssign to turn. “Well,” she began. “I’m sure you have more than twelve now.”
Scarlet yanked Yvie down a bit, rising up on her tiptoes to plant a kiss on her cheek, Yvie diverting, turning accept a quick peck on the lips and Scarlet’s residual giggle.
“Thank you,” Scarlet muttered against her jaw. “I love you.”
Yvie clasped Scarlet’s hand again. “I love you too.”
