The most troubling thing about my experience in this fandom is the entitlement people feel towards knowing the sexuality and gender identity of creators. If it's important to someone for an author to disclose before reading, I understand that but in so many comments I have seen people who have not disclosed their sexuality or gender ID be berated or questioned in fic comments or art reblogs.

Now a lot of people disclose that information and it often reads like a defense mechanism (Ace Jon written by ace author, Etc) and as a person who's been around a while, that worries me greatly for a variety of reasons.

If someone wants to know for certain their author/creator matches a certain gender or sexual identity, then its easy enough to chose works from creators who feel safe and able to disclose that without bullying others into outing themselves in their fic and art tags. The assumption it is safe for everyone to do that and the entitlement that comes with that mindset is astounding to me.
