Cleveland Indians-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
6.24.21-JC Mejia RHP (1-2) 6.11 ERA Vs. Jose Berrios RHP (7-2) 3.56 ERA
6.25.21-Cal Quantrill RHP (0-2) 2.74 ERA Vs. Randy Dobnak RHP (1-6) 7.83 ERA
6.26.21-Sam Hentges LHP (1-1) 6.40 ERA Vs. Kenta Maeda RHP (3-2) 4.85 ERA
6.27.21-Eli Morgan RHP (0-2) 10.32 ERA Vs. JA Happ LHP (3-3) 6.09 ERA
The Indians At A Glance- The Indians have been playing decent baseball since we last saw them on May 23rd. They are (16-11) since that day and are two and half games behind the White Sox for first place in the Central. The Indians are getting some guys back from injury as Franmil Reyes, Roberto Perez, and Cam Hill are on rehab assignments. Shane Bieber is out right now with a sore right shoulder. Ryan Lavarnway and Rene Rivera are splitting catching duty with Austin Hedges and Roberto Perez out. Jose Ramirez leads the team with sixteen homers and forty-four RBI’s. Amed Rosario is having a nice year as their new shortstop with a .270 average. Eddie Rosario is not having his best year. He is hitting .254 with five homers and 39 RBI’s. The Indians starting pitching has been a disappointment with a 4.68 ERA, which is 22nd in the Majors. The Cleveland bullpen has been superb with a 3.42 ERA and that ranks sixth in the big leagues. Emmanuel Clase has been a lockdown closer with eleven saves. He’s allowed just three runs over 30 2/3 innings pitched. Blake Parker has pitched well since his call-up. James Karinchak, Bryan Shaw, and Nick Sandlin have been solid set-up men for Terry Francona.
The Twins At A Glance- The Minnesota Twins continue their six-game homestand and welcome in the Indians for four games this weekend. The team was dealt a blow when Byron Buxton was hit by a pitch in Monday’s game. He has a broken bone in his hand and will miss a month. The Twins split two crazy games from the Reds earlier this week. Nelson Cruz has been on fire in the month of June. He is hitting .400 with six homers and thirteen RBI’s. Luis Arraez is hitting .333 since his return from the injured list. Miguel Sano has hit five homers and twelve RBI’s in June. Mitch Garver has been cleared to do some baseball activities and has been working out with the team. The Twins bullpen needed that off day very badly. Hansel Robles had worked four games in five days, Taylor Rogers had worked three games in four days before getting Tuesday and Wednesday off, and Caleb Thielbar had throw in three out of four games. Luke Farrell has been a good story out of the Twins bullpen with a 1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings. He has struck out seventeen batters. Taylor Rogers has allowed just two runs over his past nine innings of work.
What To Watch For- The Twins and Indians have split the first six meetings in Cleveland this year. Cleveland won two out of three in late-April and the Twins won two out of three in mid-May. The Twins were (6-1) against the Indians last year at Target Field. This will be Eddie Rosario’s first time back at Target Field since last season. He was ejected in Game 2 of the American League Wild-Card Series by Manny Gonzalez. JC Mejia has faced the Twins once and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Jose Berrios is (5-3) with a 3.91 ERA in fourteen starts against the Indians. Cal Quantrill has a 4.50 ERA in four innings against the Twins. Randy Dobnak is (2-1) with a 1.13 ERA in six games versus the Tribe. Sam Hentges gave up three runs over three innings on April 28th against the Twins. He is a Shoreview native, so it should be fun pitching back at home. Kenta Maeda is (3-1) with a 2.51 ERA in five starts against Cleveland. Cesar Hernandez has two homers off him. JA Happ is (4-2) with a 4.18 ERA in nine games against the Indians. Eddie Rosario has two homers off Happ in his career. The next twenty-six games for the Twins are against the division.

COMICS BLOGGING OF A RAMBLING AND DIGRESSIVE SORT
I am embarrassed to admit it, but I do believe I buy things as a way of coping with my own uselessness. I’d like to attribute a universality to this character flaw, and claim everyone spends money on things they don’t need to fill some sort of existential void at the center of their being. My habits are relatively healthy, some people get shitfaced in response to the stimuli that makes me simply want meat, cheese, and carbohydrates. I have at various times read books at a pace comparable to eating, where everything got finished to make way for something else, but just because “reading books” is viewed as something good for your brain doesn’t make the act of buying them feel any less like a bit of brainless consumerism, especially when one is broke, and a global depression looms. Still, considering my worries that the postal service and retail outlets might go away if we do not support them and this will make life even more unbearable I convinced myself now was not the time to be a spendthrift.
All this is to explain why I bought a handful of comics I wasn’t sure I even expected to be good. Namely, I bought a bunch of issues of Alan Moore’s Tom Strong that I wasn’t sure whether or not I’d read before. I intended to parcel them out and savor them, but when I buy snacks at the grocery store, they get eaten faster than the vegetables. I bought these, along with some other single issue comics, from wowcool.com. From Powell’s, I preordered the first volume of Taiyo Matsumoto’s Ping Pong, which should arrive in a few weeks. I also ordered a few new releases direct from Fantagraphics.
Most notable among these is the Olivier Schrauwen/Ruppert And Mulot collaboration Portrait Of A Drunk. I’m on record as liking all the artists involved, and this one demonstrates why pretty clearly: While Olivier Schrauwen specializes in comedy about dumb guys, itself a form close to my heart, Ruppert And Mulot are darker and meaner, so here the dumb guy is an indifferent murderer. Being set in a pirate milieu allows for pretty amazing sequences of action and hallucination to flourish, their skills at color and composition tie it all together. Highly recommended. The back of the book announces Fantagraphics will be publishing the Ruppert And Mulot books made in collaboration with Bastien Vives starting next year. Hopefully I will end up reading comics by people other than my known favorites this year, but during a period of belt-tightening, there’s no guarantee even one’s favorites will live up to the increasingly-burdensome expectations put upon them.
Still, those Tom Strong comics outperformed my expectations. I believe I discussed how much I like Chris Sprouse’s work when I wrote about Alan Moore’s Supreme run, but let me reiterate: There’s a handful of comics Sprouse drew in the early nineties (A Batman annual with a Two-Face story written by Andy Helfer, an eighty-page Justice League Quarterly story, the first few issues of Legionnaires) which are emblematic of a certain DC Comics skillset I really value: This George Perez style ability to draw a lot of characters, rendered with this Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez spareness, this Kevin Maguire sense of facial expressions, a certain openness to the faces which is youthful and attractive and optimistic. There’s something similar to Graham Nolan’s art too: I don’t know how much other people like this stuff, it’s not really “cool” or gnarly looking, but there’s an unobtrusive cleanliness I associate with the DC “vibe” of this era, which I find vastly more appealing than the sort of post-Image-studios runoff that was their standard look more recently. As much as I love a good stylist, his is a good house style variant. Considering that, it rules that Tom Strong is what Chris Sprouse is known for. Those early nineties comics all have a lot of panels per page, but Moore, working in a post-Image mode, lets him breathe and do action sequences. He’s not an explosive artist, his drawing has this sort of style-guide quality to it, that feels perfect for the sort of “platonic ideal of a mainstream genre comic” tone that their collaborations aim for.
Reading these comics, I realized a few things: One, I hadn’t actually read them before. Two, they’re twenty years old. The years have been kind to them, in that I spent them aging, and while I was really into Top Ten and Promethea as a teenager, I still suspect that if Tom Strong is your favorite Alan Moore comic you are probably a dad. There’s a heavily nostalgic quality to all the genre pastiche going on, and its anchored by this character who is pretty upstanding, possessing this sort of all-seeing but benevolent competence aspect, and the storytelling affirms his liberal values. Peaceful coexistence is treated as preferable to violent conflict. It’s the work where Moore’e desire to issue a corrective to what he sees as a negative influence he had is most evident, it genuinely seems to be trying to be morally instructive to a young audience. I don’t think any of these things are bad, but it’s pretty easy to see how, reading the issues as they came out, many of them would register as somewhat bland. I seem to recall comic book writers at this time like Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, and Mark Millar all deriding what they called “dad comics,” not necessarily talking about Tom Strong, as a way of hyping up their own efforts, many of which I followed more avidly at the time but do not expect would hold up nearly as well. (There’s an issue that’s a homage to old Captain Marvel Family comics, featuring a few pages of Kyle Baker art, I particularly enjoyed.)
After being reminded that Moore is a great writer, and never forgetting for a second we live in dark times, it felt appropriate to read From Hell again. I texted a friend and found he had started rereading it at the same time. I don’t consider it Moore’s masterpiece the way that contrarians that don’t want to give the nod to Watchmen do. While the darkness feels organic to the subject matter in a way it often doesn’t in Moore’s eighties superhero work, I do feel the whole “Jack The Ripper gives birth to the twentieth century” thing is a bit of a reach. I believe I will end up reading some of Eddie Campbell’s solo comics before quarantine is over, I am impressed by how organic the pacing feels, how natural it progresses while largely avoiding calling attention to Moore as a writer. The skill set that enables Moore to do a densely researched historical conspiracy thing is evident when he does a genre serial. Many of the elements in Tom Strong do not feel like they are imagined from whole cloth so much as they feel appropriated from various sources and then connected into this larger whole. The “peaceful coexistence” remit of Tom Strong allows for a structure where stories that seems tossed-off come back into play as plot elements. You rarely receive this kind of payoff from extended serials, but it’s built into the structure of screenwriting, and it is satisfying to retroactively realize like you weren’t having your time wasted when you thought you were.
I also ordered from Wowcool the Dunja Jankovic comics Sparkplug put out circa ten years ago. They’re very cool, reminiscent of Anke Feuchtenberger and Gary Panter, slowly shifting their sense of texture over multiple pages, so that while I don’t think I realized at the time these comics were released that they’re very well-drawn, it is obvious when you actually read them. I anxiously await her “Richter’s Game” minicomic being translated into English, though obviously this is going to be a tough year for self-publishers selling zines with widespread show cancellations. My hope is that Fantagraphics’ Now anthology will just start running work by people like Dunja, Alyssa Berg, Nick Norman, and Beatrix Urkowitz, but maybe there are good reasons for that not to occur. Maybe anthology pages can’t compete with the profits one stands to gain from self-publishing, or maybe my own idea of what I consider my broad-minded and catholic tastes would not actually appeal to large sections of the indie comics market, the same way my idea of what I consider “good” in mainstream comics is actually far too nostalgic a model for the aesthetic preferences of the market as it currently stands. I offer these recommendations solely as another way of coping with my powerlessness.

Best Romantic Moon Sign Matches: TAURUS MOON, CAPRICORN MOON
❤️ Virgo Moon (♍︎☽) + Taurus Moon (♉︎☽) :
Virgo Moon and Taurus Moon are extremely compatible. They have a great deal of respect and understanding for each other. Taurus is stable and pragmatic; Virgo is practical and attends to detail. They are made for each other. Both partners are cautious and approach new things slowly. They both enjoy working with nature and natural materials. Both are concerned about how change will affect them.Their differences lie in how they react. While Taurus Moon will forge ahead once they commit to an idea, Virgo Moon will constantly second guess and criticize their choice. The worrying done by Virgo will be comforted by Taurus’ steadiness and emotional stability. Taurus, in turn, helps Virgo to relax and become more instinctual. Virgo Moon may become annoyed with the lackadaisical way that Taurus Moon leaves things all over the house. Overall, however, this is a happy and content pairing. They meet each others’ needs for intimacy and pleasant company. They will be most content in the country or if they are able to grow a garden or at least go camping frequently. They have a need to interact with nature in some way. This pairing should do very well with minimal effort.
❤️ Virgo Moon (♍︎☽) + Capricorn Moon (♑︎☽):
Virgo Moon and Capricorn Moon are the best of friends the moment they meet. They can’t believe their luck in finding someone who shares so many things in common. They are highly compatible, and this relationship should work out well for all concerned. Both Virgo Moon and Capricorn Moon are organized and practical. They both work hard and want to be useful. Both are willing to forego their own desires and feelings in lieu of responsibilities. They are self-disciplined and meticulous. They are faithful, constant and don’t like risks. They will happily tread the safe, logical path to financial security. Together they can have a very powerful connection. Others may view them as boring, but they feel secure and happy. They need to make sure they don’t expect too much of themselves. With their self-critical tendencies, they can undermine their own work. They do need to be wary of overwork. All work and no play will make even Virgo Moon and Capricorn Moon dull. If they can learn to relax and enjoy themselves as well as maintain their responsibilities, they will be extremely happy.

With the Moon in the practical and systematic sign of Virgo, you are likely to be someone who is highly appreciative of structure, organization and detail. You will find your life works better with well-established systems in your personal and professional life. Virgo is an Earth sign, and so pertains to tangible or physical things. It is also known as a Mutable sign, which infers a need for variety and change. When practicality and change are brought together, the principle of refinement is found. Born with the Moon in Virgo, you are likely to have an innate need to improve or refine the circumstances around you – combining practical know-how with the analytical quality necessary to achieve specific results. Virgo is a sign of service. You are likely to find you have an innate need to nurture yourself and others through offering practical service in everyday ways. Virgo is also a sign of humility. You may be quite happy working behind the scenes, adding your considerable talent for organization to whatever you are involved in and happy to be of service, often asking nothing in return. The satisfaction of a job well-conceived, well-planned and well-done often provides the result you need. You should take care, however, not to allow this natural instinct for service to be manipulated, or taken advantage of by others. Ancient astrologers saw a relationship between the sign of Virgo and the condition of slavery. It is important that your need to be useful does not turn into the need to be someone else’s “pack-horse”. The Moon refers to how we need to be nurtured. You will find a tendency to feel safe or secure through knowing that things are tidy, structured and planned. Routine is your friend, and establishing well-ordered routines in your daily life will help you think more clearly. Virgo is associated with process and purification at both material and mental levels. You are likely to be emotionally affected by how well your daily systems are functioning and how ‘pure’ life conditions are. At a simple level, you are likely to feel awkward and uncomfortable in chaotic environments. You will feel more serene and so focussed in an organized space. At a more subtle level, you can be emotionally affected by food additives, pollutants and synthetics in your environment. This is not to say that you are ‘precious’ or need to be wrapped in cotton wool. It is just that you will feel impurities more acutelythan others. Above all else, you need a calm, peaceful and well ordered environment to access your astute thinking processes. You are nurtured by organization and structure. You assimilate information better when processes are clear, and sources of nourishment relatively clean. This is a sign of mental discrimination. You may have innate talents for editing or discernment, able to describe other people’s traits, dispositions and downfalls. Thus you may have strong writing abilities, or work well in fields involving communication, personal service and customer relations. You are likely to have a keen mind, and a great eye for detail. This can be turned to its’ full advantage by seeking occupations that allow you to capitalize on your ability to spot the ‘bottom line’. You are likely to be very good at extracting the essence from something otherwise complicated. You have the ability to sort the wheat from the chaff, and find what is essential in a sentence, task list or schedule. Because of your strong analytical ability, you may need to make sure that you watch your tendency to be overly critical, finding fault with yourself and others rather than working toward improving whatever situation you are in. Your capacity for analysis is great for problem-solving, but can also be your downfall. You are likely to be highly adaptable, but also prone to excessive worry. You can easily fall victim to nervous tension by constantly finding faults or remaining in chaotic environments that go against your instinctual needs. It is important that you learn to take time out when needed, and find ways to remedy the effects of too much nervous tension. Meditation, yoga, martial arts and other forms of mind-body exercise can be especially beneficial. This will greatly assist you to stay focussed and calm.Often, those with the Moon here can be quietly critical of self and others. Your tendency to criticize your own efforts may make it difficult for you to see your own true worth. You may underestimate your contributions and be innately convinced that whatever you do, it is not good enough. This can be a humble and shy position for the Moon. Unless other factors in your chart offer more outgoing tendencies, you may fail to receive credit for all that you have achieved. It is important that you learn to recognize how useful you are. Next time you are concerned that you have not ‘done enough’ simply ask yourself if you have improved the situation you are in. Rather than striving to be perfect, you will find that striving to make things better satisfies your need to be useful, and helps you take unrealistic expectations off yourself. On another level, Virgo is associated with the body and health. Thus, you may have an instinctual interest in matters of health, diet and nutrition. You may be naturally quite healthy simply because you have an interest in your own wellbeing, and notice that life flows better for you with regular exercise and good eating habits. It is very important that you to pay close attention to what you do, and do not, eat. Often, those with the Moon here have very delicate digestive and nervous systems. You are likely to find that you may have trouble with your stomach or nerves if you lose touch with your own bodily needs. Excess worry or problems with digestion may plague you if you do not pay attention to what you ingest. Taking in pure food (as well as experiences) is a very practical thing for you. You can be adversely affected by processed foods, and overcome with anxiety if exposed to harsh or critical people. Making sure you improve the systems that regulate your own personal life is essential for you. Through good food, routine and regular exercise you can enjoy extraordinarily good health This interest in health is often quite strong. You may have natural abilities in any area to do withhealth, nutrition and healing, especially in the area of natural therapies, herbs and pharmacology. Often those with the Moon here are drawn to service roles such as nursing and community work. Finding ways to be useful is important. Any activity that lets you combine your innate practicality, fine mind, and willingness to help can work well for you, leading to beneficial outcomes for all concerned. Individuals with the moon in Virgo are usually simple in nature and prefer to live a quiet life without the glare of public eye. They look for small things in their life to seek happiness and contentment. It is the small and insignificant matters in life like plucking flowers from a garden that give them real happiness. It is in their basic nature to not only take care of themselves, but to take care of others as well. Thus, such individuals are of extremely helpful nature and will be first to lend a helping hand to those in distress. These individuals love to have a routine in their life. They cannot do without a routine and if it is missing in their lives, they tend to feel that something is amiss in their life and they are not in their true elements due to it. They tend to act in a fussy manner and are often labelled as complainers as they cannot function properly without having a routine in their life. Due to such characteristics, they love to take on such jobs or tasks in which lot of detailing is required or which has a great scope for micromanagement of things and situations. Such individuals are always averse to public displays of affection and most of the times get repulsed because of that. Such individuals tend to be shy in meeting up new people. However, once they get to know them and gradually open up, they are in their own elements and strike a good rapport with them. Additionally, they are born sceptics in nature and tend to be over critical of themselves as well.

Born with the Moon in the lively, communication-oriented sign of Gemini, you are likely to be a curious individual, with an active, versatile mind. Gemini is an Air sign, governing communication, the exchange of information or ideas, and the protocols with which social organization occurs. Accordingly, you may find that you have an innate need to know as much as possible about the world around you, and may have a talent for numbers, speech or the written word. Gemini is also a Mutable sign, implying the need for variety and change. You are likely to find that you are easily engaged in new things, seek stimulation and may become easily bored. You are likely to be very adaptable, and love anything new. You may be an instinctive multi-tasker, and may habitually involve yourself in many tasks at the same time. Your need for variety means you are better when doing several things at once, but need to avoid scattering your mental energies so that very little actually gets done. The essence of this sign is communication. Unless other factors in your birth chart dominate, you are likely to enjoy sharing information with others, and may be very talkative. You may find yourself involved with lots of different people, flitting from group to group, situation to situation, in order to exchange information and ideas. Information is the foundation of your emotional wellbeing. You are likely to feel at your best when actively engaged in learning something new. For you, information is paramount, and you may not need to study something in depth to feel that you know enough about it. As long as you have glimpsed the basis of an idea or opinion, you may then feel satisfied to move on. Like the literal social butterfly, you may find yourself moving from person to person, gathering data, ideas information or facts before moving on to share what you have gained. You need to know about what is going on around you, and will enjoy imparting to others the information they may need to get through the day. Sometimes, this love of information can extend to gossip. You may have a weakness for scandals, trivia and trashy magazines! You like to know what is happening in other peoples lives. This works well for you when your love of knowledge stimulates good conversation and an interest in the world around you. When taken to extremes, a love of gossip can work against you. You may find that you inadvertently develop a reputation for being fickle, two-faced or unreliable. Others may know you cannot be trusted to keep a secret, and so will exclude you from the true details of their personal lives. Or you may attract to yourself persons who thrive on discussing the misfortunes of others. This can create a negative backlash that will ultimately bring you undone. Discretion is an important trait to develop when born with the Moon in this sign. Because you are interested in everything does not mean you have the right to spread it around! This is a very inquisitive position for the Moon. In many ways, you experience a sense of personal worth by connecting to other people, talking to them about their problems and concerns, and finding out what makes them tick. You are less likely to be concerned with deep emotional intricacies as you are with the peculiarities of their life circumstances or perspectives. Once you have ascertained where someone is coming from and why, you are likely to then feel compelled to move on to someone else, having satisfied your need to exchange information, so entering another “data file” into your catalogue of human experiences. Your interest in others is indeed genuine. You may just find you have an almost unquenchable need to know more. In essence, you will need to find a balance between your need for information, and your ability to connect with others on more than superficial terms. As the Moon is also concerned with nurturing, you may have a special ability to make others feel good with what you say. Because you know how to nurture with words, you may know the right thing to say at just the right moment to get others feeling light and bright again. Gemini is a sign known for humour and entertainment. You may instinctively know how to keep things fun. Talking around the surface of things stop them getting heavy. You are likely to have an uncanny ability to turn the conversation around when needed to the brighter side of life. You are probably very good at defining emotions. You have the ability to categorize experiences based on objective fact, but may be less comfortable actually feeling what is happening. In this sense, you may attempt to avoid deep emotional experiences, feeling more certain of yourself with rational or logical discussion where you can analyze a certain situation, classify it, and move on. In time, you will need to learn to deepen your emotional experiences, so that you can learn why certain emotions occur. Rather than detaching from emotional involvement, you may find that experiencing emotion, then adding logic, helps broaden your social repertoire. As the Moon rules the instincts, you may have instinctual talents with words and numbers. You may be good at keeping score, at accounting, or any form of commerce. You may also have a love for trade, enjoying the hustle and bustle that goes along with bartering and retail. You may have a love of gadgets, and be drawn to anything bright, shiny and new. You may be an instinctive flirt, and love flitting from one admirer to the next. This Moon position is often associated with those whose main concern is with the external world, exchanging facts, ideas and commodities without getting too consumed by the deeper, or more mysterious, dimensions of life. This is fine, as long as it does not preclude you from acknowledging that you are also an emotional being, with passionate needs that also need expression. Then your love of logic can be balanced with a well-rounded interpersonal life. At its best, Gemini is a lively and versatile sign. Born with the Moon here, you are likely to have a quick and adaptable mind. Your interest in whatever is happening around you means that you will feel an ever-present need to “know”. Once you have discovered something, you will want to share it with those around. Upon this foundation, your need for communication grows. Emotional balance comes from being connected to your immediate environment and having other people in your life. The need for variety and change is usually strong here, and you will seek multiple experiences and projects to keep you on the go. Your curiosity can be both an endless source of discovery and a good deal of personal charm. Connected with others, you can share what you have learned. Moving from situation to situation generates feelings of newness and excitement that will always give you something interesting to talk about.

Born with the Moon in Scorpio, you are likely to be sensitive and loyal, but have intense emotional needs. Scorpio is a Water sign, which relates to the emotional, psychological and spiritual dimensions of life. You are likely to give the impression of being perceptive, powerful, and transformational. Scorpio is also a Fixed sign, suggesting that when you align your emotions with something you desire – be that a friend/lover or an anticipated outcome – you will be constant, enduring and unwilling to let go. For you, a sense of emotional wellbeing comes from having close and truthful connections with others which allow you to explore the life’s depths. Depending on other influences in your chart, you are also likely to be a passionate individual with a real capacity to connect on an emotional level. You will seek intimacy in your relationships, and demand loyalty in return. The sensitivity and depth of your nature means you are likely to have intense reactions to emotional stimuli. Scorpio is not an easy place for the Moon to be. The Moon is traditionally considered in her “fall” here, suggesting certain challenges around how lunar (emotional) qualities are expressed. Because the quality of your emotions – their strength and potential power – can be so intense, they can at times be overwhelming. Early on in life, you may find yourself swinging between extremes, like you are riding a rollercoaster of emotional peaks and troughs. You feel acutely every dimension of life. You will do best if you remember not to collapse yourself into your emotions, or believe that just because an emotion has intensity, it must be acted upon. Part of your nature requires that you learn to allow strong feelings to flow through you, without being overwhelmed by them. With time, and as greater self-awareness develops, you will learn to understand the depths of your emotions by taking time for introspection. You can gain great insight into yourself and others by developing a true sensitivity to the complexity of emotional needs. As you understand the depth of your own nature, you learn to recognize the true motivations in others as well. Scorpio is also a sign of privacy. You are likely to prefer playing your cards ‘close to your chest’. Rather than letting everybody know exactly what you are experiencing, you learn to keep your true feelings to yourself. Even those nearest to you may have no idea of the depth of emotional storms besieging you, and the relief that comes when the clear light of understanding eventually shines through. To harness your potential for emotional insight and connectedness you should learn to spend time “going within”. You feel intensely, for better or for worse. This can at times make you seem vulnerable, but in truth you are likely to possess great strength. Your emotional nature combines sensitivity with the instinctual awareness that real growth only happens through episodes of pain and transformation. No stranger to this truth, you are likely to prefer to see things for what they are – both in yourself and in other people. You are likely to have a highly developed ability to sense the emotional undercurrents around you, and prefer dealing with the raw truth at any cost. You have a knack for pinpointing what you, and others, really want or need in a situation – which may be confronting – but always brings the truth to light. Through confronting things for what they really are, you bring this light into your own and others lives. By entering and resolving emotional crises, you generate greater emotional or spiritual freedom for yourself and other people. There may be a tendency to try and protect your vulnerability, hiding the true depths of what you really feel. The tendency to suppress or hide your emotions can go both ways. On the one hand, you may try to detach from uncomfortable emotions, and avoid circumstances that will really get you to feel. You may protect yourself from close encounters with others, and find emotional release through fictional or fantasy-based sources. Or, you may attempt to control and dominate others with moodiness, lashing out at them before they can “get to you”. Defence can be used as a form of offence to prevent others discovering how sensitive and vulnerable you really are. Either way, you end up missing the benefit of true intimacy by not letting others share in how you feel. You need to develop trust in others by letting them into your life. This means listening to your own intuition, and choosing the right confidantes to share the real depths of your immensely loving heart. For you, the exchange of emotional energy makes living worthwhile. A need to be close and connect to others is likely to be a constant theme in your life. Through sharing your substantial emotional resources, you uncover the truth about yourself. At the same time, you expose yourself to deeper levels of power and vulnerability. This process of self-exposure is what you need, and ultimately leads you to a form of inner transformation that can only happen through trust and mutual intimacy. The goal for those born with a Scorpio Moon is to develop deeper levels of closeness in life. Through relationships you understand the world around and your place in it. By connecting and sharing with others, inner peace is found. Accordingly, this lunar position is excellent for anything which requires an understanding other peoples’ motives and drives. A natural psychologist, you will be adept at sensing what others really need. You can do well in any field that involves ‘reading’ others. How clearly you do this will have much to do with what you are prepared to face in yourself. By exploring your own dark cupboards you learn to sense what others keep in theirs. This placement calls for great emotional honesty; an all-or-nothing preparedness to live from a position of power and truth. Your greatest gift is your ability to bring light into your own and others’ lives by seeing things for what they really are. You help others transform what needs redeeming through accepting themselves as they are.If you fail to live from a place of honesty, then you could display the more negative or poisonous potential of the Moon in Scorpio. Overwhelmed by your own vulnerability, you could seek to destroy others. You may (unconsciously or not) try to take others down, rather than face the darkness within yourself. You may find yourself exposing flaws and manipulating weaknesses as a way to inflict pain. If this happens, you need to transform first the pain in your own life before involving yourself with others and having an influence on what they do with theirs. At the highest level, Moon in Scorpio gives you the ability to transform your own and others lives. You can act as an agent for change, becoming a catalyst for greater growth and awareness. You can help others shift their psychological values. The potential power contained here is enormous. You have the opportunity to be a force for good. Valuing your own and others privacy, you can be trusted to keep a confidence, and have a rare kind of understanding that is born from simply accepting things for what they are. You can be the one others turn to with their deepest secrets and most hidden pain. When you let them share their stories, you help them heal their pain. When you talk to them truthfully abut you feel is going on you can help them find a path to transformation. With your awareness of the depths of human nature and empathy for others, you can bear witness, offer counsel and help others renew themselves. With the moon in Scorpio, individuals are emotionally intense with an aura of mystery constantly surrounding them. They own the characteristic of deciphering the emotional state of anyone and possess the capability to look through anyone’s emotions and feelings. Due to this quality, others consider them as enigmatic people who manage to achieve such a feat accurately constantly. They have a continued requirement for change and excitement. They normally wish for excitement and continued drama in their lives and thrive on emotional drama. Scorpio-born go out in securing their relationships, and they certainly don’t believe in half measures. They never waste their time in meaningless relationships as they long for total commitment from their partners. With the moon in Scorpio, individuals have a dynamic and attractive personality and their entire character is filled with mystery which often draws others to them. They possess a gift of intuition, and strive extremely hard to control their intense emotions. However, for their own gains, they tend to use this gift of intuition. In the occult and the unusual, these individuals tend to have a strong interest. By their very nature, they are amazingly creative beings. Overall, these individuals are charismatic in nature and attract one and all with their mysterious aura. Attitude wise, the Scorpio-born is non conformist individual, and aren’t bothered to adhere to the norms set by the society.

By connecting and sharing with others, inner peace is found.Accordingly, this lunar position is excellent for anything which requires an understanding other peoples’ motives and drives.

With the Moon in the sign of Taurus, you are likely to have an innate need for security and comfort. Taurus is an Earth sign, and so pertains to the tangible, material aspects of life. You are likely to find that you relate easily to the physical plane, and find much comfort in what you can see, hear, smell, touch and taste. Taurus is also a Fixed sign, implying constancy, patience and perseverance. This suggests that you will by drawn to circumstances which are predictable, concrete and well-established. Preferring to know the ground upon which you stand, you are likely to seek the comfort of tangible outcomes, and the security of knowing what can or cannot be maintained. In essence, it is usually quite fortunate to be born when the Moon is in this sign. Here, the lunar energies are particularly strong, owing to the special connection between the Moon and Taurus. Astrologers describe the Moon as “exalted” in Taurus, which means the qualities of fecundity, nurturing, sustenance and fertility are most easily expressed. If you are born with the Moon here, you have a greater opportunity to be in touch with your fundamental needs, together with the practicality to know how to achieve them. Often, those born when the Moon is in Taurus find it easy to enjoy the pleasures of life, coupled with an uncanny ability to somehow attract them. On this point, those born with the Moon here rarely find themselves going without. It is almost as if you have the capacity to magically attract exactly what you need. You may find that you somehow always have enough, or just when you start to feel the need for something, it synchronistically appears. For maximum effect, you should share these resources with others. With the Moon in Taurus, you will find that the more you share with others, the more you will get. Rather than coming from a place of fear – thinking you have to hold onto what you have – your best approach is to see money or resources as simply a concrete manifestation of life force. Allowing this energy to flow through you generates greater abundance in return. You experience more comfort in life when you share comfort with others, and from this position, will probably never be without. The Moon in Taurus gives you the intuitive capacity to unconsciously manifest the resources and experiences you need to feel comfortable. Comfort is a key issue, and with the Moon here, you are likely to find that you need comfort and security in order to feel emotionally centered. This is not to say that you are innately materialistic. You just know that life flows better for you when you are materially secure. Emotional stability is reflected in your attitude toward material possessions. Knowing how to appreciate quality, you will be instinctively drawn to finer things. You may not feel that you need to hold onto them, but you will understand that your ability to appreciate the best in life is a reflection of your self-worth. Self-worth is connected to material security. You will notice that you tend to feel emotionally secure when you know you are taking care of yourself, as well as others. You are likely to be instinctually aware of possessions (or their lack) and this will reflect greatly on how you view your self. For you, self esteem and possessions are intimately linked. It is not that you have to have material things to feel that you are worthwhile, but more an innate sense that life is there to be enjoyed, so that when you allow yourself the pleasures of life, you demonstrate a level of self-care that creates emotional fulfillment. You may be happy with just a bowl of rice and a blanket, but will truly understand that life is greatly enhanced when the rice is nutritious and the blanket of good quality. The best way to nurture yourself is by ensuring that you have this quality and comfort in your life. This is not to say that you are greedy or possessive. In fact, the opposite is usually the case. Because you can easily attract to yourself what you need, you tend to learn early on that life is even better when you share what you have. On an emotional level, you are likely to be warm, generous and giving. You will enjoy nurturing others with the fine things you have found. How demonstrative you are will depend on other factors in your chart, but as a bottom line, you are probably extremely generous and dependable. A loyal and devoted friend, you are also likely to be a giving and reliable partner. Because you are innately connected to the physical plane, you will have a heightened awareness of the body and its senses. You can easily find comfort through sensual things, and are likely to have a heightened appreciation for physical pleasure. Massage, body care, fragrances, good food or high-quality materials are likely to appeal to you. You will be deeply anchored in your physical body and enjoy all the pleasures that the senses can bring. A great way to nurture yourself is by connecting with the sense and taking time out to balance yourself through physical experiences. Taurus is a sign of great stability, patience and perseverance. You are likely to be seen by others as generally reliable, gentle and calm. Because your unconscious reactions rest on solid ground, you tend to weather the storms of life with less upset than more volatile types. As long as there is comfort and security in your life, you feel fine. Therefore, you need to experience the warmth and security of loving relationships so that you can express your need to share life. Taking care of others is a great source of satisfaction. Helping them to experience and appreciate the quality of life gives you much joy. This stability, however, may have another side. There may be a tendency toward stubbornness or fixed emotional patterns, though this would only be likely if other chart factors added to the famed Taurean tendency to get stuck in a rut. On the whole, you are probably easy-going, generous and gentle, seeking peace, harmony and beauty in life. At the same time, you are able to attract what you need because of your cooperative nature. If at times you do display the more negative emotional qualities of jealousy and possessiveness also attached to this sign, it is usually because you have been pushed to that point by others, or through extra factors within your chart which heighten such tendencies. If stubbornness rears its head in you, then you simply have to ask yourself do you really have to hold on to what you think you do, or are you simply experiencing a state of fear? All in all, this is one of the nicest placements for the Moon. You are likely to manifest abundance, creativity and sensual comfort in your life because such experiences are to be cherished and enjoyed. Your need to take care of yourself well should ideally be reflected in how you care for others. When you open to the flow of abundance in your own life, you bring similar rewards to others. Finally, a word of warning might be said about the tendency (in fact, the emotional need) toward indulgence and comfort. Overindulgence is a real possibility, especially if the Moon links up with Jupiter, so you should be careful to avoid excess in food, drink or just lazing around. Your love of comfort can easily turn to excess and accumulation at later stages of life. Gaining weight or becoming emotionally bogged down is a sign of too much indulgence, and should be countered by some form of activity, as well as frank honesty with yourself.

This will lead to isolation, and the unhappy experience of not having other persons around you to share your creative ideas and abundant emotional energy. At its’ heart, Leo is a sensitive and impressionable sign. You are easily hurt when you don’t get the recognition that you feel you deserve. Moon in Leo needs approval in order to keep the heart fires burning. You need to find ways to express yourself creatively, be with other people, and take up your natural leadership role. For this to happen, you must ensure you do not isolate anyone through snobbery, or make others subject to your, at times petty, emotional demands. Born with the Moon in Capricorn, you are likely to be innately responsible, pragmatic and measured in the ways that you respond. Capricorn is an Earth sign, and so pertains to the tangible and practical dimensions of life. It is also known as a Cardinal sign, which implies a need to take action. When practicality and activity combine, the urge to master material resources is usually present. With the Moon in Capricorn, you are likely to have an innately serious and responsible nature, seeking to make the most of whatever resources you have at your disposal. Responsibility, and all this entails, will probably form a background theme in your life. You may have had to step into a position of responsibility early in life, or received strong impressions from your parents (most usually mother) about the need to live up to certain expectations in life. You may feel a deep sense of duty around supporting others, and will naturally be drawn to areas of life expression which allow you to demonstrate a capacity to accept responsibility. You are likely to have the ability to assist and nurture others in practical ways, and will often be seen as “the capable one” who can be relied on to find realistic solutions to current problems. The Moon is said to be in “detriment” in this sign, implying that easy and spontaneous emotional connections are not your forte. You are likely to be self-conscious in your emotional approach, and may appear reserved at first, taking time to warm to others and develop closeness. While you may have a huge heart, you do not give it away easily. You need time to get to know others and work out how you really feel about them. It is important to understand how serious or worthwhile any emotional involvement may be before you get involved. Whilst to others this may seem calculating, for you it is just a realistic assessment of the fact that emotional ties can be burdensome, and taking yourself seriously involves assessing exactly where a situation is taking you, and if that is where you want to be. Yet this pragmatism can also be a source of strength. It can give you stability and create a realistic attitude to life’s emotional ebbs and flows. On the up side, this means that for those you hold near and dear, you will be consistent, strong and true. You have an innate ability to follow through on what you say, and are likely to value greatly the worth of family, continuity and emotional commitment. On the down side however, your pragmatic approach to feelings and relationships may lead to a tendency for projecting to others a cold and unavailable nature, concerned more with the bottom line of what you will ‘get’ from a connection, rather than just being able to enjoy closeness and intimacy for what it is. The sign of Capricorn relates to foundations, structures and the gift of Time. You are likely to value tradition, status, and social position. You will require from others the same level of responsibility and capacity that you demonstrate for yourself, and will respect people or situations that demonstrate longevity and persistence. On some level, you are likely to feel most secure when you have solid structures and foundations around you. To this end you may be somewhat conservative, with strong ambitions for yourself based on recognition and accomplishment. Achievements carry powerful emotional overtones for you, and you are likely to feel an inward need to live up to being the best that you can be. You may have a need to prove yourself ‘out there’ in the world as a concrete example of your inner values, so reflecting an aptitude for responsibility and commitment. Alternately, you may have a much more private idea of what success and accomplishment mean to you. You may be less concerned with worldly success and more concerned with doing the best you can on a more personal level. You may set high standards for personal development, with a profound sense of integrity and authenticity. Whether your focus is material or spiritual, you are likely to be committed to making sure that you achieve the things that you expect of yourself. If other features of your chart imply more freedom-loving or unconventional qualities, you may be at odds with other voices within your psyche. If you find yourself struggling between the need to fulfill obligations and the need to be free just remember that your innate capacity to commit and demonstrate responsibility can be expressed in many different ways. As long as you live up to your own expectations in terms of what responsibility means to you, you will feel emotionally stable and secure. From this stable base, you can spin off into any form of expression you so choose. You are likely to be highly self-sufficient and contained, but need to remember that sometimes we build strong emotional foundations by sharing our strengths and weaknesses, talents short-comings and abilities with those around us. You are no doubt very capable, but need to be mindful of a tendency to isolate yourself upon your own mountaintop of duty and responsibility. You may have an innate tendency to expect that no one else will be as thorough as you are, and so take on far more than you need to, at times even taking from others duties that are rightfully theirs. Try not to look down upon “mere mortals’ less capable than you, but realize that your strengths and capabilities have been earned through hard work and sacrifice, yet only count for something if you can share them with someone else. In sharing responsibilities, you will achieve the position of respect and responsibility that you so naturally deserve. In letting others demonstrate capability and endurance, you help build a fertile platform upon which material stability is achievedWith the Moon placed here, you are likely to be innately concerned with how you appear publicly. You tend to be aware of the value of reputation and protocol, and so, will avoid doing anything publicly that may diminish you in the eyes of others. Because you recognize the value of a good reputation, you will strive to appear capable, contained and in-charge. Whilst this is useful in terms of earning respect, it may mean that you avoid extending yourself at times because you will not let yourself learn. You can set such high standards of achievement for yourself that you expect to be able to master whatever you attempt almost as soon as you begin. Rather than learning through a process of trial and error, you will stop yourself doing things unless you are already innately competent. It is important that you recognize the need for learning or apprenticeship along the road to mastery. Showing others your vulnerabilities will not hurt you as much as you may fear, and can in fact help them appreciate your achievements more through seeing your commitment to high standards through hard work. Finally, there may also be a need to release old, crystallized emotional patterns or unconscious fears through subconscious re-programming. Because the Moon represents the genetic or emotional framework through which we view experiences and learn about the world, there may be a tendency to ‘get stuck’ when that frame is inclined to endure and ‘hold-on’. In this sense, unconscious fears, limitations and restrictions may prevent you from opening up to an easy, spontaneous flow of emotion. Old habits and memories can prevent you from connecting with the here and now. There may be inhibitions around revealing the true extent of your feelings, and you may keep others at a distance so they never know how much you really need them. Developing empathy, the ability to self-nurture and kindness for yourself are highly recommended, This will help dissolve any old and unwanted emotional patterns, and open the door for greater vulnerability and closeness with others. You may find tactile or emotional therapies useful for you if find this hard to achieve. Because you are used to demonstrating fortitude and resilience, you may find it hard to soften and let others in. But when you share your capacity to accept responsibility and build solid foundations in life, you are rewarded with full appreciation from those who can understand the depth of your emotional commitment.

Born with the Moon in the vibrant sign of Aries, you are likely to have a pronounced need for independence, as well as an assertive streak. Aries is a Fire sign, governing impulses, initiative and action. Accordingly, you are likely to feel at your best when you involved with exciting, challenging or new experiences – anything that lets you express your pioneering side. Aries is also a Cardinal sign, highlighting the need to act. You may experience yourself as a dynamic, pioneering individual, and enjoy getting things started – lifting them off the ground. Your need for independence suggests you may be happiest when left to do your own thing, and will detest being told what to do.This is a sign of emotional independence. You are likely to give, and expect, much stimulation, vibrancy and freedom from the people in your life. You may be quick to react, ready to forgive and but also easily hurt. You are likely to enjoy the space to be your own person, and will feel trapped if others try to limit you. You may also be uncomfortable with sentimental displays, or what you may deem as ‘weak’ expressions of emotion. You have an innate warrior-like quality which means you will prefer to deal directly with what is. Social niceties or protocols that mask the truth are usually not your cup of tea. You are likely to call ‘a spade a spade’, and be largely self-sufficient on an emotional level. You have the capacity to endure hardship and negation when it will suit your purposes, and usually expect others to do the same. Your ability to marshall your energies can be pronounced. You have a capacity to draw from an instinctive level the inner resources that you need. When you identify an objective that you wish to pursue, you can do so with an almost military-like precision, removing all distractions in your quest to attain your goal. You have the kind of temperament which thrives upon hard work and perseverance. The gusto with which you approach these goals can leave others in your wake. Yet you may have trouble finishing what you start, or compromising so as to include others needs. For these reasons, you may run in to difficulty with others who are unable to ‘marshal’ their energies as easily as you, or when negotiation is required. You will need to learn when it is time for you to do your own thing, versus time to include others. The influence of others features in your birth chart will reveal how easily this can be done. As a pioneer, you are likely to find that you are drawn to avenues of expression which allow you do your own thing. You may have a particular knack for recognizing the seed in an idea, the potential in an opportunity. Your emotional nature is likely to be such that you feel most invigorated or alive when you are starting something new. The energy needed to get something off the ground fires all your passion up, and gives you an immediate focus. You are likely to be responsive, impatient and enthusiastic, so suited to any kind of self-employment or contract opportunity. For some born with the Moon here, there will be entrepreneurial qualities, and you may feel frustrated in your life unless you have the chance to test your ideas on the market and see what else is possible to create. Aries is a sign of vision combined with action. You may need to find ways in your life to do your own thing, and are likely to resist others attempts to define you. Aries is considered the “infant of the Zodiac”, and you may have a peculiar blend of brashness, innocence and sensitivity which means you will say whatever is on your mind. Yet you can easily be hurt should others do the same. You are likely to be strongly affected by criticism and can be stopped in your tracks by unkind words. You may rush forward when feeling sure of yourself but fall in heap when others disagree. Like the proverbial Fool of the Tarot, you tend to leap in where angels fear to tread, possessing a courage to face the unknown which means you rarely question the road ahead. Your valiant spirit can be your best asset but also your Achilles heel. You may completely underestimate the calculated actions of those with a more complex emotional response, or you may unintentionally hurt others with your own ill-considered words. In this sense, you may be somewhat taken aback by those who are prepared to use underhanded or calculating methods, for yours is a fairly straightforward and usually honest style of relating that is characterized by direct expression, honesty, forthrightness and a lack of guile. Those born with the Moon in Aries tend to react quickly to circumstances, and you may speak directly from an emotional place before having stopped to really think. You may get angry easily, but will get over it quickly as well. You are likely to be most comfortable with others who let you be yourself, and recognize that there is rarely any malice or hidden agenda when you say what’s on your mind. Aries is connected with the planet Mars, the god of war. You may be at times aggressive, with a quick temper and little patience when it comes to getting what you want. Your reactions tend to be spontaneous and direct. You are likely to rely on intuitive flashes or hunches, making decisions quickly before moving on to whatever’s next. Your emotional nature may mean that you tend to jump into things, especially friendships, quite quickly. You make your decisions based on initial feeling, and once excited will happily rush in. This can lead to errors of judgment with you overstepping the mark, until you learn to balance this tendency with common sense. Try to spend a little time getting to know what others really think and feel, before you make your move. For best results, you should learn to trust your strong intuitive streak, but temper direct action with balanced consideration to help determine the correct approach. You are likely to be both noble of spirit and innately idealistic. Because of this, you will fight for ideas or people you hold dear to heart. Aries embodies the archetypal qualities of The Spiritual Warrior or The Chivalrous Knight. You may care little for money or prestige, but can be motivated to move mountains should an ideal or individual be at stake. You are likely to hold high ideals, and will believe in Truth and Justice as ultimate entities. Finding ways to channel your warrior nature into tangible outcomes should prove rewarding for you, and when you feel you are ‘fighting the good fight’ then you will feel at peace within yourself. If other factors in the chart also concur, then physical activity is likely to be most important for you, and with plenty of fuel in your tank, you will need to expend a lot of energy on a regular basis in order to feel settled and on track. At its best, Aries is a passionate and independent sign. Born with the Moon in Aries, you are likely to have an innate need to do things on your own. Your dynamism is your best asset and gives you much energy to draw upon. You will feel at your best when in charge of your own life, and in some way doing your own thing. As a natural pioneer, you can see the opportunity present in seed-potentials, and will bring much creative energy to get things off the ground. Your sense of justice and idealism means you will fight for what you feel to be fair, and in many ways your innate innocence means you can succeed through sheer courage and purity of heart. Your courage can be an inspiration to others, and you do best in life when you direct your considerable energies toward the achievement of worthwhile causes bigger than just yourself.

Riverside Football Rankings, Week 6
So, we have our first controversy. The new Number One team actually lost, but based on Power Index, they move to the top spot. The main factors in determining Power Index are: Won-Loss Record, Road Wins, Wins against Higher Division teams, and Strength of Schedule/Opponents' Won-Loss. In the end, league play will balance everything out.
Current (10/1) CIF-SS Poll.
Without any further adieu, here are the Week 6 Rankings.
#1 NOTRE DAME (4-2) /DIVISION 7 / SUNBELT
LAST WEEK: #2
The Titans lost 48-21 vs. Paloma Valley, in Week 6, but previous opponents Aquinas, Hillcrest, Xavier Prep, Tustin and Rubidoux all won. The Wildcats rolled up 382 rushing yards and 6 rushing TD against Notre Dame's defense, while holding the Titans to 279 yards on offense. Notre Dame was also flagged for nine penalties, totaling nearly 100 yards. QB Rodney Koenig was victimized by a pick 6 early in the game. Paloma Valley jumped out to an early 21-0 lead, and never looked back.
Doesn't get any easier for the Titans, who'll play their fourth straight road game at Valley View (2-4), coming off of a big win over Arlington. The Eagles will test Notre Dame's secondary, as they average 200 yards per game through the year.
Ultimately, the Titans fortunes will come down to how they perform in league play. The new Sunbelt League should be intriguing, as with just a three-game schedule, margin for error will be tight, like trying to squeeze the 60, 91, 215 interchange during rush hour on a Friday. The Titans managed to stay in the Division 7 top ten, despite the loss.
#2 RAMONA (5-1) / DIVISION / 12 RIVER VALLEY
LAST WEEK: #4
The Rams scored an impressive 20-0 win over Patriot (4-2, ranked 8th in D10) to kick-off league play. Previous to their Week 5 Bye, it had been the Rams' offense that had been the focal point, in Ken Mushinskie's revival, averaging 45.3ppg over a three-game win streak. To date, the Rams have allowed 15.3ppg on the season, and 64 points over their four-game streak (32 in a September 14th match-up with Poly). The Warriors averaged 283.8 yards per game over their first five, and the Rams held them to 146, and forced three turnovers, winning despite totaling under 200 yards of their own.
The Rams take on Hillcrest (3-3, 1-0) Thursday, the Trojans coming off of an impressive win against Norte Vista. A win for the Rams could put them in the drivers' seat in the developing River Valley league race. One of Coach Mush's strengths, is his ability to get the Rams to focus on matters at hand. The old, boring “one game at a time” strategy. Hillcrest is explosive, so the Rams have a task ahead of them. Look for them to incorporate some ball control early, while Senior QB Brandon Osayande looks to pick his spots against the Hillcrest D, which was impressive in shutting down NoVi on Friday, allowing the Trojans to go to the half up 40-7.
If the Rams can start 2-0 with two road wins, they will have a leg (or a horn) up, as two of their last three games are at home (La Sierra & Norte Vista), with their road game being at Jurupa Valley. The formula is there for Ramona to succeed: Senior QB in Osayande, top-flight RB in Donte Roby, Jr., and a defense that has been up to the challenge. The Rams always play hard, and don't beat themselves. Don't be shocked if that allows them to overcome some of their liabilities (undersized, lots of underclassmen in key positions). This is a big week for Ramona's very talented linebacking corps. They'll need to contend with the Hillcrest run game, while the secondary deals with the speed of the Trojans' receivers. The Rams are 5th in the most recent Division 12 CIF Poll.
#3 NORTE VISTA (4-2) / DIVISION 9 / RIVER VALLEY
LAST WEEK: #1
The Braves were throttled by Hillcrest, 54-13. They played their fourth straight game without Senior RB Chris Melesio, but Miron Hazem (14 att 104 yds TD), Eddie Allain (16 att 80 yds TD) and Josef Luckey (4 att 28 yds) took up the slack. Senior QB Julian Corey completed 4 of 5 passed, for 86 yards. Over Corey's last three games, he is 10 of 12 through the air, for 230 yards and 2 TD. As Corey continues to develop, he could play a huge factor in determining the River Valley race, and in the CIF Playoffs. After averaging 370 yards rushing over the previous three games, Hillcrest held the Braves to a paltry 212 yards, while rolling up over 400 on their own, taking a 40-7 lead to the half. The loss dropped No Vi out of the Top 10 in the CIF-SS Division 9 Poll.
Norte Vista tries get back on track against La Sierra, who until last year, had been the only team to defeat the Braves on the field, back in 2014, when current Arlington Head Coach Jeff Roney led the Eagles to the River Valley crown. Over the last three seasons, No Vi has scored an average of 51.3 points in games against La Sierra, including 65 back in 2015. Having Melesio back would provide the Braves with a huge lift. The defense also looks to redeem themselves, after allowing over 400 yards in the Hillcrest loss, while the offense will look to bounce back from a game where they committed six turnovers.
Last week's stumble non-withstanding, the Braves remain a contender in the River Valley. Since the league formed in 2012, No Vi has been the regular season champ of the RVL every season except for 2014 (La Sierra) and as part of a five-way tie in 2017. They took a haymaker from Hillcrest Friday, but a win over La Sierra could allow them to take a breath, and settle back in. Everyone knows that Ken Batdorf will have his team ready, and look to guide them over the early speed bump against Hillcrest.
#4 HILLCREST (3-3) / DIVISION 10 / RIVER VALLEY
LAST WEEK: #6
To quote Ebby Calvin “Nuke” La Loosh from Bull Durham, the Trojans “announced their presence with authority” in Friday's 54-13 win over Norte Vista. The win over the Braves was Hillcrest's second in a row, after losing three straight, which dropped them from the #1 spot in the CIF Division 10 Poll. Sophomore RB Dominique Clay ran for 112 yards and 4 TD, while Sophomore QB Camren Payne completed seven passes, five for more than twenty yards, including a 79 yard strike to Ryan Howard. The Trojans used a thirty-three point second quarter to roll to a 40-7 lead at the half. The offense rolled up 434 yards, while the defense forced three turnovers. Clay notched his second 100 yard performance of the season, after not having played since September 7th against Kaiser.
Next up for Hillcrest is a key match-up with Ramona. Both Hillcrest and Ramona knocked off ranked teams in Week 6, which could put the winner at the pole position, in what looks to be a fairly tight race in the RVL. Last week, I'd said that Hillcrest could be the most talented team in the league, and they showed that on Friday night. Another reason I like Hillcrest, is that young guys like Clay, Payne, Ryan Howard and Isaac Perez will improve with each additional week of varsity experience. The defense is led by four Seniors, Josh Ford, Ezekial Holliday (both two-year starters), Christian Murillo and Erik Rivera (three-year starters). The Trojans forced seven turnovers over the last two weeks, while committing just one of their own.
The key for Hillcrest will be to peak at the right time, and have the young team playing their best football, heading into November, and the CIF Playoffs. In their five non-league games, the Trojans didn't play a team below Division 8, which could pay dividends in October & November. Their opponents' winning percentage is .528, which ties them for fourth among city teams.
#5 LA SIERRA (5-1) / DIVISION 12 / RIVER VALLEY
LAST WEEK: #3
The Eagles are becoming Riverside's version of the “Cardiac Kids” as they rallied from behind to defeat Jurupa Valley 25-24, denying the Jaguars their first league win since 2014. The defense held up, finishing the evening out with a Goal Line Stand. The five wins are the most by an Eagles' squad, since they went 8-3 in 2014 under current Arlington Head Coach, Jeff Roney.
Bryce Poppe had 188 yards passing, and threw for 3TD, while the Eagles also amassed 200 yards on the ground, where they were led by Lamar Gaines, with 86 yards and a TD. Andre Thomas continued to do Andre Thomas things, nine catches for 166 yards and two trips to pay dirt.
This week, the Eagles lock up with Norte Vista, as the Braves will be looking for redemption, coming off of their loss at the hands of Hillcrest. The last time La Sierra knocked off No Vi was back in 2014. There is familiarity between the two teams, as Gary Hedlund served as Ken Batdorf's offensive coordinator, back in 2014, prior to taking the La Sierra job.
The Eagles were a hair from losing to an 0-6 Jurupa Valley. That's the bad news. The good news is, they hung on and won the game. They have now logged four road wins, with three in come from behind fashion, late in the game. The combination of Poppe to Thomas might be the most dynamic in the league, and they can run the ball well enough to keep teams honest.
The Eagles' defense has been stingy in key spots, when it's counted. In their loss to Rialto, La Sierra gave up 38 points, but it should be pointed out two of those scores by the Knights came on punt returns.
The Eagles are like a deep philosophical argument. On the down side, their strength of schedule is ranked the lowest amongst Riverside teams, and they've had to eek out some close games under against those opponents.
Some will say that playing from behind eventually catches up with you. The other side of that coin, is that La Sierra is now 4-0 on the road. Are the Eagles one of those teams, that if you let them hang around, will just find a way to beat you? The River Valley League will know soon enough.
#6 POLY (3-3) / DIVISION 9 / INLAND VALLEY LAST WEEK: #5
The Bears are coming off of their most impressive performance of the year, a 49-0 win over Canyon Springs, yet took a slight drop in the rankings. The Bears rolled up 320 rushing yards among five players, and QB Budd Bernie was very efficient, completing 9 of 10 passes for 106 yards in the win. More importantly, Derek DeWitt had his full complement of players on defense, which was led by Warren Hardin, who had 7 tackles, after missing time with an injury. Jaylon Keeton also returned to give the Bears' defense their cornerstones along the defensive line.
This week, Poly looks to go 2-0 in the newly configured Inland Valley league, as they'll play Orange Vista on Saturday. Greg Zomalt left Citrus Hill to helm the Coyotes program, but brought over the “process” from the old place. They run, run, run the ball. Four rushers combining for over three hundred yards on the ground per game. The front seven of the Bears will be severely tested. On the defensive side, Orange Vista has only allowed one team (El Monte) to score as many as twenty points. They've only surrendered 68 points all season (11.3 ppg). Offensive Coordinator Bill Powell will have to dial up a game plan to exploit the talents of Jermaine Henderson, Budd Bernie, and Jerry Sandefeur, among others, if the Bears expect to go to 2-0 in league play. A fourth win for Poly would mark the most successful season during the DeWitt Era.
The goal for the Bears is to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2015, and this year's version of Poly Football could be a sleeping giant in the IVL. Orange Vista will be a tough out, but a win over the Coyotes would allow Poly to build on the momentum from the big win over Canyon Springs. The Bears have dealt with nicks and bruises all season, and look to finally be healthy, particularly on defense. Saturday will be a good barometer by which to judge their progress.
#7 JW NORTH (2-4) / DIVISION 8 / INLAND VALLEY LAST WEEK: #7
The Huskies finally got to bark a big, with a 42-12 win over Perris to open Inland Valley League play. The offense finally got clicking, which North Head Coach Dennis Brown attributed to their line play, as the Huskies rolled up 483 yards, 342 on the ground, an aspect they'd been trying to improve over the last two seasons. Both Jerrell Calhoun and Venasio Mika'ele went for over one hundred yards, and North led 28-6 at the half, in cruising to victory. Senior QB Nick Satcher completed passes, to five different receivers, throwing for 141 yards, connecting with Jerrell Calhoun for a TD. The North defense, which had taken its lumps, surrendering 137 points over a three-game losing streak before the bye, finally negotiated the learning curve against the Panthers.
This week, North hosts 1-5 Lakeside, as they look to go 2-0 in Inland Valley League play. The Lancers won their opener over Ramona 17-14, but have dropped all five of their games since, and haven't won a road game since they knocked off Orange Vista last September 15th. The Huskies will need to keep their mojo going, and seem to have gotten a boost over the bye week, where they were able to get healthy, and make some adjustments, which resulted in the big win over Perris. The backfield combo of Mika'ele and Calhoun is formidable for any defense, especially when the offensive line, anchored by four Seniors, two of whom are three-year starters (William Smith and Omar Gudino Flores) has found its rhythm. And don't forget about Nick Satcher, the Senior QB who threw for nearly 1,900 yards and 16 TD in 2017.
The Huskies' playoff win in 2016, was their first since before they moved to the Inland Valley out of the Big VIII. In recent years, though, the Huskies have missed the playoffs more than they've been in it, winning their opening round game over Grand Terrace in '16, and going one and done in 2014. This being an even-numbered year, should bode well for the Huskies.
#8 ARLINGTON (0-6) / DIVISION 8 / SUNBELT LAST WEEK: #8
The Lions fell to Valley View, 34-6, to drop their 6th straight, and 9th out of their last 10, dating back to last season, after a 7-0 start. The Lions actually led 6-0 early, and it was a 7-6 game at the half, before Valley View reeled off 27 straight 2nd Half points, aided by three Arlington turnovers.
Doesn't get any easier for Jeff Roney and his crew, as they have Paloma Valley on the road. The Wildcats have won three in a row, and scored 47, 48 and 48 points in those wins. Arlington has allowed forty points or more in four of their six games.
This is the last non-league game for Arlington, who have taken their shots thus far, but could wipe the slate clean with a couple of wins in Sunbelt League play. Ezekial Valentine had a rushing TD in his first game for Arlington, and should help QB Isaiah Leuta, who already has weapons such as Devin Johnson, and Mike Hollis at his disposal. The defense, anchored by their standout line, will need to step up over this last month of the season.
#9 ML KING (0-6) / DIVISION 4 / BIG VIII
LAST WEEK: #9
Looked as if things had started to turn for King, as they'd played at OT game vs. Poly (3-3) on September 8th, and lost a one-point game to Elsinore on September 14th, before stepping out for their bye week. Returning to action this week, Norco reminded the Wolves they still play in the Big VIII. The Cougars rolled up nearly 500 yards against King.
Doesn't get any easier with their next opponent, Roosevelt (4-2). The Mustangs knocked off Corona 57-0, to start Big VIII play. Their only losses are to Servite (Division 1) and Tesoro (Division 2). While King has struggled, the Wolves had surrendered 106 points over the first five games, before the 42-7 loss to Norco.
At this point, King is mostly playing for pride. The Big VIII is a tough league, with four teams in the running for playoff seeding. The showdown with Corona on October 12th, could be King's last real chance to enter the win column in 2018. Notre Dame transfer Adeal Bavadi leads King in rushing and has 3 TD (most on the team) between his running and as a receiver. He's averaging nearly six yards a pop on the ground, while King has struggled, particularly from the QB position, as they only average 82 yards per game through the air. Of King's eight leading tacklers this season, four will be back next year.

PGA Championship 2018: Tee times, pairings for Sunday
Tiger Woods starts Sunday with another late tee time and a chance to win his 15th major championship.
The PGA Championship is back on schedule following a Saturday scramble in St. Louis. After rain washed out much of Friday afternoon’s play, we spent Saturday playing three-plus hours of the second round, making a cut, and then finishing up the third round into the evening. No further delays led to a smooth day and we’re through 54 holes heading into Sunday morning at Bellerive.
The forecast for Sunday is clear again, so there’s no need for some dramatic measure like sending the players off split tees or in groups of three. Everyone will roll off No. 1 on Sunday in twosomes, and that’s really the way it should be for the final round of a major championship. The pace of play should quicken — hopefully — and we should wrap up right around 7 p.m. on CBS. I know things can slow down under the pressure of a major championship, but there’s no reason a round should exceed four hours when the cut has been made and the field is out in twosomes.
Brooks Koepka and Adam Scott will be your anchor duo. One has captured two of the last five majors, while the other has not posted a top 5 in any worldwide tournament since the start of last year. Koepka may be the best player in the world right now. A win at the PGA would probably solidify that status. He’s an awesome talent, holds a two-shot lead, and should be the heavy favorite to win on Sunday. Scott has wandered in the wilderness at times, looking for a reliable putting stroke after spells of excellence that have yielded a world No. 1 ranking, a Masters green jacket, and a Players Championship.
While the winner may come from that final pairing, most eyes will be in the third-to-last group, as they were three weeks ago at The Open Championship. Tiger Woods is back with a late tee time at a major championship. He’s got a chance to win, which is a still a stunning thing to write in 2018 after the last two years. Woods will start four shots back from Koepka. His chances are not great, but they exist and he’ll have to make an early move as he did at Carnoustie. Tiger will tee off alongside Gary Woodland at 2:35 a.m. ET.
The entire bottom of the tee sheet is loaded. The course may not be up to your ideal of a major venue, but we’ve got a major leaderboard and a late wave of superstars that you want rolling off No. 1 tee. Here’s your tee sheet for the final round at Bellerive (all times ET)
8:29 a.m.: Chris Stroud, Brian Gay
8:38 a.m.: Cameron Smith, Scott Brown

Chris Clee:Last season, Spurs didn’t spend and Poch got them a Top 4 in the PL and the CL Final. He’s had a rough start to the season, but on what planet do you bin a boss who can do that?! Mourinho is yesterday’s man in football who only wins if he spends money. Spurs don’t.
Kris Jefferson:Mourinho’s reputation definitely declined while at Man Utd. However, Utd’s plight since he left has shown how good a job he really did there. Genuinely still believe he‘s one of the best managers in the world and this could be an great bit of business by Spurs.
Michael Catling:This Tottenham documentary is going to be a must-watch now, isn’t it?
Tottenham’s 2019-20 season is the subject of an Amazon All or Nothing documentary.
The Athleticclaim to have the inside story on how relationships inside the Tottenham dressing room deteriorated in the last six months of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign.
Apparently players would avoid eye contact with the Argentine for fear of inciting his wrath as he became increasingly isolated and angry.

Bezaleel Aduwumi:Dear Mr. Levy, now that you’ve named Jose Mourinho as the new Spurs manager, get the chequebook ready and I’m sure Spurs fans will ask you why the funds were not available to Poch as you will make the funds available to Mourinho.
Tom McQuillin:I’m disappointed with Mourinho. Poch needed to be replaced with someone new and exciting like Nagelsmann or Eddie Howe. We all know how this is going to end and it will be 1 or 2 steps forward followed by 5 steps back. But for now I have no choice but to support him.

‘Big boots to fill for Mourinho’ – Shearer
Former England, Newcastle and Blackburn striker Alan Shearer speaking to BBC Breakfast:“They say nothing should surprise you in football but it has moved really quickly.
“I was suprised by Pochettino’s sacking, you would think what he has achived in the five years – turning them into regular top-four contenders and visitors to the knock-out stages of the Champions League – that he would have something in the bank, that he would be given a few months to turn things around.
“Mourinho has been waiting for a big job and now has got one. He has big boots to fill to try and better what Pochettino has done. The Argentine may not have won a trophy by the way that Pochettinho delivered his football and that Champions League final was very special and will live with Spurs fans for many years.

Pochettino’s time at Spurs

In a little over five years, Mauricio Pochettino turned Spurs into regular visitors to the knockout stages of the Champions League. However, he departs with Spurs 14th in the table with just three wins from 12 games in the Premier League.
Pochettino was named Tottenham boss on 28 May, 2014 after taking Southampton to their best ever finish in the Premier League.
After a fifth-placed finish in his first season at the club, he led them to third in 2015-16 – their highest final position in the Premier League.
He became the first opposition manager to beat Pep Guardiola in England when Tottenham defeated Manchester City 2-0 in October 2016.
Spurs continued to progress, finishing second and third respectively in the next two seasons.
Led Tottenham to the last 16 of the Champions League in 2017-18 and was rewarded with a five-year contract in May 2018.
Lost FA Cup semi-final to Manchester United in April 2018 – Tottenham’s eighth successive defeat at that stage of the competition.
However, Spurs reached the Champions League final for the first time the following season after a memorable comeback against Ajax.
Lost 7-2 to Bayern Munich in the group stage of this season’s Champions League.
Departed Spurs on 19 November 2019 after just three Premier League wins all season.

Minnesota Twins-Cleveland Indians Series Preview
8.24.20- Kenta Maeda RHP (3-0) 2.27 ERA Vs. Aaron Civale RHP (3-2) 2.91 ERA
8.25.20-Rich Hill LHP (1-1) 4.70 ERA Vs. Shane Bieber RHP (5-0) 1.11 ERA
8.26.20-Jose Berrios RHP (2-3) 4.75 ERA Vs. Adam Plutko RHP (1-2) 6.88 ERA
The Twins At A Glance- The Minnesota Twins started a ten-game road trip this weekend and took two out of three games from the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Now, the Twins head to Cleveland for their lone trip to Progressive Field this week. Miguel Sano had a good weekend. He went 6-for-11 with three doubles, a homer, and four RBI’s. Eddie Rosario went 5-for-9 with four RBI’s over his past two games. Nelson Cruz hit his tenth homer on Sunday afternoon and the Twins bats are coming alive at the midway point of the season. The Twins are (19-10) and have a game and a half lead on the Indians for first place in the Central. Randy Dobnak had another solid start on Saturday, but the Twins need more from the other starters. Kenta Maeda and Randy Dobnak have carried this club. Jose Berrios had an encouraging start last time out, but Jake Odorizzi and Rich Hill have been roughed up lately. The Twins called up Sean Poppen and Danny Coulombe after placing Jake Odorizzi (chest contusion) and Zack Littell (right elbow inflammation) on the injured list. Tyler Duffey has been the Twins best reliever with one run allowed in eleven innings of work.
The Indians At A Glance- A lot has happened with the Cleveland Indians since we last saw them on August 2nd. Terry Francona has missed seventeen games with the team due to a gastrointestinal condition that he needed to have a procedure done. He will miss this series in Cleveland. Zach Plesac and Mike Clevinger are off the active roster after going out to a bar in Chicago after Plesac’s win on August 8th against the White Sox. The two violated team protocol and will miss some time. The Indians have been cleaning up on bottom dwellers in both Central Divisions. They went (7-2) against the Tigers and Pirates over the past week. The Cleveland offense still hasn’t picked up. They are hitting .208 as a team, but the pitching has been great. Franmil Reyes has been a solid hitter with a .293 average, six homers, and eighteen RBI’s. Carlos Santana .187 average and Jose Ramirez .241 average are off to slow starts. The Indians starting pitching has been tremendous. They optioned outfielder Bradley Zimmer on Saturday and called up Triston McKenzie, who threw six innings and allowed just one run against the Tigers. Shane Bieber has a 1.11 ERA in six starts and is a favorite for the Cy Young. Aaron Civale has been good, Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac were off to promising starts, but have been basically suspended by the club. Brad Hand has nailed down seven saves, but has a 4.70 ERA. James Karinchak has been a great story with a 0.61 ERA in 14 2/3 innings. Oliver Perez has given up just one run in 9 2/3 innings.
What To Watch For- The Twins took three out of four games from the Indians in late-July/early-August at Target Field. The Twins went (5-4) last year against the Indians at Progressive Field. Kenta Maeda threw six scoreless innings in his only career start against the Indians. Aaron Civale is (0-1) with a 2.65 ERA in three starts against the Twins. Rich Hill owns a 7.27 ERA in eight games against the Tribe. Shane Bieber is (4-0) with a 3.52 ERA in nine games against the Twins. Eddie Rosario has three career home runs off Bieber. Jose Berrios is (5-3) with a 3.90 ERA in his career against the Indians. Adam Plutko has a 4.19 ERA in four games against the Twins. This should be a good series to see where the Twins are at even with their injuries. First place could be on the line if the Indians sweep the Twins. It sounds like Tyler Clippard will not be available for the series opener on Monday after taking a liner off his arm during Sunday’s game.

Your Friday Morning Roundup
41 is the new 14, in terms of wins. This feels wonderful.
A day after the Sixers crushed the Grizzlies at home, they did the same to the Magic, but in Orlando, with a 118-98 result. And like the previous night, it got so bad, the starters only played three quarters, as the Sixers led by as much as 35 points in the third quarter. And the guys had fun with Molly again:
I love this team pic.twitter.com/Bd9J0BV83b
— Drew Corrigan (@Dcorrigan50) March 23, 2018
Ersan Ilyasova led the team with 18 points, while Joel Embiid added 17. He definitely was not tired from playing the first night of a back-to-back. Robert Covington and Marco Belinelli each had 15 points for the second straight night. Ben Simmons had 10 assists and 11 rebounds with six points.
“The Process” also has a new nickname – Embiid Curry:
Embiid just went Steph Curry and ran off the tv screen before the ball got to the rim lol pic.twitter.com/tEERmciAka

EMBIID CURRY???? Btw 2 wins away for you #TheProcess https://t.co/euPtfRTmHn
— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) March 23, 2018
He’s referencing Rob Perez’s bet that the Sixers wouldn’t win 43 games. They’re two games away and I can’t wait.
If the 76ers win 43 games I will eat my bet ticket on air and mail a 500-word apology to every Sixers fan who asks for one https://t.co/9vK00iYLB3

But the biggest takeaway from the game is obviously the return of the second Furkan, Furkan Korkmaz. The rookie from Turkey played the entire fourth quarter and scored three points and added one assist in his first game since suffering a Lisfranc injury back in December.
The Sixers can assume two things with a win on Saturday at home against the Timberwolves. Michael Rubin will probably be at the game. They can assure themselves of an above .500 record for the first time since 2004-05. They can also clinch the playoffs, thanks to the Pistons losing to the Rockets in overtime. And if the Sixers don’t win, a Detroit loss clinches a playoff berth as well.
Tonight, Indiana hosts the Clippers and the Wizards host the Nuggets. The Pacers will also host the Heat on Sunday, while the Wizards host the Knicks that same night.
The Roundup:
The Flyers are also making a push for the playoffs, and they got a big win at home last night after beating the Rangers 4-3.
Travis Konecny had two goals to lead the team, while Jake Voracek added a tally of his own. Oskar Lindblom’s goal eight seconds into the third period proved to be the game-winner:

Alex Lyon got the start in net and stopped 33 of 36 shots. It was a much-needed performance from any goalie, whether it was him or Petr Mrazek.
With the win, the Flyers have a six point advantage on the Devils for the first wild card spot. They’re also one point behind both Columbus and Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan standings.
Speaking of Pennsylvania’s second-best city, they play the Penguins in Pittsburgh Sunday at 12:30 PM on NBC.
The Penguins and Devils play each other tonight. Saturday, the Devils host Tampa Bay and the Blue Jackets host the Blues.
The Eagles got a veteran wide receiver to replace Torrey Smith and help ease Mack Hollins into a starting role in former Raven Mike Wallace. He signed a one-year deal with $2.5 million. Smith is getting paid $5 million. Howie Roseman’s a freaking genius. He’s going to be another deep ball threat.
It appears Chris Long will stay with the Eagles, per the big J journos of Pardon My Take. He was a guest on the Friday episode of the podcast, but didn’t really say anything on the decision to return to the Eagles. Instead, Big Cat, PFT, and producer Henry Lockwood reminded him multiple times of 16 seed UMBC upsetting top overall seed Virginia, where Long went to college. At least UVA has a better lacrosse team than UMBC!
Linebacker Mychal Kendricks had surgery on his ankle in Green Bay yesterday. According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, it’s described as a clean-up and it shouldn’t impact his trade value at all.
The third Eagles-only mock draft from PhillyVoice’s Jimmy Kempski.
In Spring Training, the Phillies lost to the Tigers 6-2. You probably won’t care about the outcome of the game because Jake Arrieta made his debut for the Phils. It produced mixed results, as expected, but he went two innings and gave up two runs on three hits while striking out two batters.
“I don’t think it’s completely out of the question,” Arrieta said about the first week. “It might not be very likely. But it could happen. [Pitching coach Rick Kranitz] and [manager Gabe Kapler] have just continued to reiterate that longevity is obviously most important vs. trying to jump out there a little premature.
“Do I think I could handle going out there? Of course. But, again, is it the smartest thing to do? Maybe not. I’m on board with what these guys intend to do. I know they have my health and the team’s success over the long haul in mind. That’s the most important thing moving forward. We’ll probably have a better understanding of where we’re going to go in three or four days.”
We learned three of the Phillies’ April games won’t be on TV. One will be on NBC Sports Philadelphia’s website due to the Flyers and Sixers playing on the same night, while two others will be streamed exclusively on Facebook.
Today, Aaron Nola will take the mound to face the Pirates at 1:05 PM. The Phils also play the Tigers and Orioles in the final weekend of Spring Training baseball.
Villanova gets set to take on West Virginia tonight at 7:27 PM in Boston on TBS. A win would send them to the Elite 8 to play the winner of the Texas Tech-Purdue game.
There’s some interesting facts to read before watching tonight’s game.

Also in that same game, a day after getting dominated by the Sixers, the Grizzlies got pummeled some more by the Hornets, losing by 61 points. Maybe they shouldn’t have fired David Fizdale?
Terrelle Pryor signed a deal with the New York Jets. Remember when he was kind of good?
Jason Pierre-Paul got traded to the Buccaneers. This is also hilarious to believe:
Convince me the #Bucs don’t currently own the best pass rush in the NFL. Vinny Curry, JPP on the edge. Gerald McCoy up the middle. 17.5 sacks between them, 8.5 belonging to Pierre-Paul. Until Suh signs with the #LARams…..

Kansas City Royals-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
9.19.19-Mike Montgomery LHP (2-7) 4.23 ERA Vs. Kyle Gibson RHP (13-7) 4.76 ERA
9.20.19-Eric Skoglund LHP (0-1) 8.36 ERA Vs. TBA
9.21.19-Glenn Sparkman RHP (4-11) 6.02 ERA Vs. Jose Berrios RHP (13-8) 3.58 ERA
9.22.19-Jorge Lopez RHP (4-8) 5.93 ERA Vs. Martin Perez LHP (10-7) 4.92 ERA
The Royals At A Glance- The Royals have played okay since the Twins last saw them. They are (16-24) since August 4th and the Royals up to 56 wins on the season. The A’s took two out of three games from them in Oakland earlier this week. The Royals only scored seven runs in the three-game series and six of those runs were on Monday. The offense hit 3-for-20 with runners in scoring position in the A’s series. Since we last saw the Royals, they have acquired Ryan McBroom and former Twin Randy Rosario. Jesse Hahn is back from Tommy John surgery. Whit Merrifield has had another solid season, where he is hitting .303 with sixteen homers and seventy-four RBI’s. Jorge Soler is tied with Mike Trout with 45 homers on the year to lead the American League. Mike Trout is out for the season, so he will likely win the home run crowd. Hunter Dozier has had a breakout season with twenty-six homers and eight-two RBI’s. Mike Montgomery has been given a spot in the starting rotation. He had a 2.45 ERA in August and has done decent in September. Brad Keller has been dealing with arm fatigue and is out for the rest of the season. He posted a 4.19 ERA in 165 1/3 innings. Ian Kennedy has locked down 30 saves with a 3.28 ERA in a resurgent year as a closer. Tim Hill has a 3.41 ERA in 41 games. Kevin McCarthy, Scott Barlow, and Tim Hill help set Kennedy up out of the bullpen.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins Magic Number is down to seven games after they lost and the Indians won Wednesday night. The Twins took two out of three from the White Sox and now start their final home series of 2019 against the Royals. Luis Arraez hit 6-for-13 with a double in the White Sox series. Eddie Rosario went 5-for-14 with three doubles and two RBI’s against the Sox. Max Kepler has been out with a shoulder injury, Ehire Adrianza has an oblique issue, CJ Cron has seen limited action with a thumb injury. Jose Berrios threw 7 1/3 solid innings on Monday, Martin Perez only went 4 2/3 innings on Tuesday, and Jake Odorizzi tossed 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday. Tyler Duffey has a scoreless innings streak of 19 2/3 innings. Zack Littell owns a 0.61 ERA over his past 14 2/3 innings. All of the Twins bullpen arms minus Sam Dyson should be ready for this four-game series.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (9-3) against the Royals in 2019. The Twins and Royals play seven times in the final ten games of the season. Mike Montgomery has a 2.77 ERA in 13 career innings against the Twins. Kyle Gibson is (9-5) with a 3.55 ERA in twenty-one career starts against the Royals. Alex Gordon has two career homers off Gibson. Eric Skoglund has a 5.40 ERA in five innings against the Twins. Glenn Sparkman is (1-3) with a 6.08 ERA in seven games versus the Twins. Jose Berrios is (2-2) with a 4.11 ERA in eleven starts against the Royals. Jorge Lopez has a 3.15 ERA in 20 innings against the Twins. Nelson Cruz has two career homers off him. Martin Perez is (1-1) with a 4.46 ERA in six games against the Royals. Hunter Dozier has two career homers off him. This four-game series should be the last games at Target Field until the playoffs in October. There is a way the Twins can clinch at home, but they would need a total of seven Twins wins and Indians losses. I think they will clinch in Detroit next week.
What To Watch For-

Twins Win Wild One Against Sox!
White Sox 8 Twins 9 W-Harper (4-2) L-Ruiz (1-4)
The Minnesota Twins are at a point in the season where all they need to do is win to lock up the American League Central Division. It doesn’t matter how ugly the wins, but just win baby. Tonight was a wild one as the Twins faced off with the White Sox at Target Field. The Twins offense got to work in the third inning. Ryan LaMarre led-off and drilled a Ross Detwiler fastball out to right-center for a solo blast. This put the Twins on the board and they weren’t done yet. Mitch Garver walked and was bunted over to third. Nelson Cruz was intentionally walked and Eddie Rosario made them pay with a run-scoring double to center. The next batter, Miguel Sano crushed a Ross Detwiler fastball out to left for a three-run blast and the Twins were up 5-0 in a blink of an eye. The White Sox would chip away in the fourth. Eloy Jimenez doubled to start the frame then James McCann singled him home. This pulled Chicago within four and they got back to work in the fifth. Adam Engel and Leury Garcia singled to start the inning then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Tim Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to right and Jose Abreu singled home another run. The Sox were within two after five frames. The Sox kept coming back in the sixth. Zack Collins drilled a Trevor May fastball out to right for a solo blast. On the very next pitch, Adam Engel blasted a Trevor May fastball out to left for a solo homer. The back-to-back jacks tied the game at five after six innings of play. The bullpens dominated for a good chunk of the night and we headed into extra innings. In the eleventh, Tim Anderson smacked a Zack Littell fastball out to left for a solo homer. This put the Sox up 6-5 and Alex Colome came on for the save. Jonathan Schoop led-off the eleventh with a single to center and LaMonte Wade pinch-ran. He reached second base on a groundout and third on a wild pitch. Mitch Garver hit a sac fly to center and the game was tied at six. We headed into the twelfth and the Sox rallied again. Zack Collins walked with one out to bring up Ryan Cordell, who belted a Ryne Harper fastball out to left for a two-run homer. This put the Sox up 8-6 and we headed into the bottom of the twelfth. Jose Ruiz entered the game for the Sox and things got interesting. Nelson Cruz led-off with a single and Eddie Rosario doubled. Marwin Gonzalez drove in a pair with a single to right to tie the game at eight. Luis Arraez singled and LaMonte Wade singled to load up the bases. Ronald Torreyes dug into the box and was hit by a pitch to win the game. The Twins won on a walk-off hit by pitch and got their Magic Number down to seven.
-Final Thoughts- Martin Perez did okay tonight. He lasted 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on ten hits with four strikeouts. Trevor May got out of the fifth then gave up the two homers in the sixth. Tyler Duffey struck out the side in the seventh, Sergio Romo fanned all three men in the eighth, and Taylor Rogers had a clean ninth. Zack Littell gave up a run over two frames. Ryne Harper allowed two runs in an inning of work, but picked up the win. Eddie Rosario, Marwin Gonzalez and Luis Arraez led the team with three hits each. Ryan LaMarre had two hits on the night. The Twins hit 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left eleven men on base. It was a crazy night at the ballpark that saw the Twins blow a five-run lead. Tomorrow, Ivan Nova will face Jake Odorizzi in the season finale between the two teams.

Chicago White Sox-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
9.16.19-Reynaldo Lopez (9-13) 5.35 ERA Vs. Jose Berrios RHP (12-8) 3.63 ERA
9.17.19-Lucas Giolito RHP (14-9) 3.41 ERA Vs. Martin Perez LHP (10-7) 4.89 ERA
9.18.19-Dylan Covey RHP (1-8) 7.98 ERA Vs. Jake Odorizzi RHP (14-6) 3.60 ERA
The White Sox At A Glance- The White Sox have struggled since we last saw them. They are (5-11) since August 29th, but are still in third place in the American League Central. Since we last saw the Sox, Jon Jay went on the injured list with a hip issue and the team made several call-ups. Manny Banuelos, Carson Fulmer, Daniel Palka, Danny Mendick, Dylan Covey, Zack Collins, and Jose Ruiz were all called up. The Sox roster sits at 32 men as of now. The White Sox lost two out of three games to the Mariners in Seattle this weekend. Yoan Moncada hit 7-for-14 with four RBI’s in Seattle. Eloy Jimenez went 6-for-12 with a homer and two RBI’s against the Mariners. Adam Engel even had two homers against the Mariners this weekend. The White Sox are getting a good look at catcher Zack Collins, who play in all three games this weekend. The starting pitching wasn’t good in Seattle. Dylan Covey went 3 2/3 innings, Dylan Cease threw five solid innings, and Ivan Nova only lasted 3 1/3 innings on Sunday. Hector Santiago did a bulk of the relief work with 3 2/3 innings. He threw 90 pitches, so he will likely be out for the first two days of this series. Jimmy Cordero, Aaron Bummer, and Evan Marshall continue to set up Alex Colome. Colome gave up a walk-off homer to Omar Narvaez on Saturday night.
The Twins At A Glance- The Minnesota Twins took two out of three from the Cleveland Indians and are 4.5 games ahead of the Indians for first place in the American league Central. They head home for their last homestand this week. First up is three games with the White Sox. The Twins have three starting pitchers for this series. Jose Berrios, Martin Perez, and Jake Odorizzi will all get starts this week. Eddie Rosario hit 4-for- 12 with three homers and four RBI’s in the Cleveland series. He has 31 homers and 99 RBI’s on the season. Miguel Sano hit two homers with five RBI’s against the Indians this weekend. Max Kepler sat out on Sunday as he is getting back from that chest injury. Marwin Gonzalez continues to take batting practice and should be getting closer. Nelson Cruz was out Sunday after playing in both games on Saturday. Jake Cave returned with two hits on Sunday. Ronald Torreyes was pinch-hit for midway through Sunday’s game. The Twins had three bullpen games this weekend, so the starters need to go deep into games. Jorge Alcala, Trevor Hildenberger, and Kohl Stewart were the lone guys not to pitch this weekend. Kyle Gibson came out of the bullpen on Sunday, so I’m not sure what that means for his next start.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (11-5) against the White Sox in 2019. Minnesota is (4-2) in games played at Target Field. Reynaldo Lopez is (1-3) with a 5.30 ERA in six starts against the Twins. Max Kepler has two career home runs off him. Jose Berrios is (10-2) with a 2.40 ERA in thirteen starts versus the Sox. James McCann has three homers off him. Lucas Giolito is (4-5) with a 4.58 ERA in ten starts versus the Twins. Nelson Cruz had three career homers off him. Martin Perez is (3-2) with a 4.81 ERA in five starts against the Twins. Dylan Covey is (0-4) with a 7.30 ERA in six games against the Twins. Jake Odorizzi is (3-3) with a 3.20 ERA in nine starts against the Sox. Jose Abreu has homered off Taylor Rogers twice. Nelson Cruz is hitting .471 with eight homers and twenty-three RBI’s against the White Sox this season. Overall, the Twins Magic Number is nine and everyone would love to see it go down this week. The Twins play Monday and the Indians don’t, so that makes up for the half game in the standings for the rest of the year.

Twins Blank Nats 5-0!
Nationals 0 Twins 5 W-Berrios (12-8) L-Sanchez (8-8)
The Minnesota Twins have been getting decent starting pitching, but their ace Jose Berrios has been struggling as of late. Jose Berrios took the hill tonight and had an ace-like performance tonight against the Washington Nationals at Target Field. Anibal Sanchez and Jose Berrios tossed up zeroes for the first six innings tonight. Hits were at a premium, but the Twins offense got to work in the seventh inning. Eddie Rosario started it all with a lead-off double to center. The next batter, Mitch Garver smacked an Anibal Sanchez slider out to left-center for a two-run blast and the Twins were on the board. Meanwhile, Jose Berrios threw seven shutout innings and the bullpen did the rest. Sergio Romo had a 1-2-3 eighth and the Twins got some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jonathan Schoop led-off and was hit by a pitch. Luis Arraez looped a single to left and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jorge Polanco delivered a two-run double to left and the Twins doubled their lead to four. Eddie Rosario and Mitch Garver walked to load up the bases. Ehire Adrianza added a sacrifice fly of his own and the Twins led 5-0 as we headed into the ninth inning. Trevor May came on and had a perfect ninth as the Twins took Game 1 from the Nats tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Jose Berrios had a fantastic performance tonight. He threw seven shutout innings and allowed two hits with four strikeouts and a walk. He needs to get back on track if the Twins are going to win any games in the playoffs. Sergio Romo had a perfect eighth and Trevor May fanned one in a 1-2-3 ninth. Luis Arraez led the way with two hits on the night. The Twins hit 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Tonight’s game lasted a quick two hours and thirty-two minutes. Tomorrow, Stephen Strasburg faces Martin Perez in Game 2 from Target Field.

Second Half Outlook
I follow the Twins, Dodgers, and Giants on a nightly basis and while we push past the All-Star Break here is a look ahead of what all three teams might do moving forward in the second half.
Minnesota Twins:
The Good: The Twins have a 5.5 game lead in the American League Central after a great first half. The offense has been one of the best in baseball with 166 home runs, which is the most in MLB. The team is hitting .272, which is tied with the Red Sox for the highest average in baseball. The Twins are getting through some injuries and Eddie Rosario should be back on Friday. Jake Odorizzi and CJ Cron’s injuries are minor and they should be back very soon. The starting rotation has been solid for a good portion of the year with Jose Berrios, Jake Odorizzi, and Kyle Gibson leading the way. Martin Perez and Michael Pineda have mixed in some solid starts as well. The bullpen has four very reliable arms with Taylor Rogers, Blake Parker, Trevor May, and Ryne Harper. Mike Morin, Tyler Duffey, and Matt Magill have stepped up at times, but have the occasional bad outing. The Twins need one or two more bullpen arms in order to take control in the American League Central race.
The Bad: The Twins closed out the first half with a (6-7) record in their last thirteen games. The lead has dropped to 5.5 games and the Indians are playing some good baseball lately. Cleveland went (15-9) in June and have won all five games in July. Corey Kluber won’t be back until August and Carlos Carrasco might be back in September. The Indians have been doing it with Trevor Bauer, Shane Bieber, Zach Plesac, Jefry Rodriguez, and Mike Clevinger in the starting rotation. The Indians have been there and won the division three straight seasons. It appears that the American League Central race is going to be closer than anticipated.
What Needs To Happen: The Twins need to add a reliever or two in order to contend at a high level in the second half. The team has two nice trade candidates at AAA right now. Brent Rooker is hitting .286 with fourteen homers and forty-seven RBI’s at Rochester. The Twins outfield is full with Eddie Rosario, Byron Buxton, and Max Kepler. Jake Cave and LaMonte Wade are the fourth and fifth outfielders on the team. If you can trade Brent Rooker and Nick Gordon to the Giants for Will Smith and Tony Watson then the Twins would be in business. Gordon is hitting .290 with two homers and twenty-nine RBI’s. The Twins also have an in-house option with Cody Allen. They signed him to a minor league deal. He has thrown four shutout innings with four strikeouts for Fort Myers recently. He will likely move up to AAA before the Twins call him up. I think the Twins should trade for a guy then see how the Cody Allen project works. Allen can be a reliable reliever when he’s right.
Los Angeles Dodgers:
The Good: The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a tremendous first half to 2019. They have amassed 60 wins and have a 13.5 game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West. Corey Seager, AJ Pollock, and David Freese are working their way back from injuries as well. All three of those players should be back after the All-Star Break. The Dodgers are a deep team and the bullpen has finally shaped up into a reliable part of the team. Joe Kelly has allowed one earned run in his last 13 1/3 innings and is becoming the set-up man the Dodgers signed to a huge deal. Kenley Jansen is slowly returning to his old form. Pedro Baez has a 2.70 ERA on the year. JT Chargois has been amazing in his return to the big league club. He has struck out 15 in his last seven innings of work. The starting staff had three All-Stars with Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Walker Buehler. Maybe the Dodgers add a starter or a reliever, but they don’t need much come July 31st.
The Bad: There isn’t much bad for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have the best roster in baseball and one of the best farm systems in the game. They have the resources to make just about any trade if they need to. I only see them acquiring another arm. Rich Hill is going to play catch next weekend and the Dodgers hope he can start in September. That would be a big boost to this great starting rotation. Even if he’s not stretched out then he can still be a reliable lefty reliever. Ross Stripling and Julio Urias are solid options, who can start in Rich Hill’s absence. The only other question mark is Russell Martin and his health. He had a low back issue earlier this year. Will Smith and Keibert Ruiz are ready in the minors though. Overall, the Dodgers don’t have much to worry about after the break unless injuries pop up.
San Francisco Giants:
The Good: The Giants finished the first half strong. They are scoring tons of runs and the starting pitching has been better to go along with a solid bullpen. The Giants are (7-2) in their last nine games and are now within 5.5 games of the second wild-card spot. Alex Dickerson has been a welcome addition with a .362 average, four homers and fifteen RBI’s since getting claimed off waivers from the Padres. The team even has a chant for him and other players. It seems like the clubhouse is revitalized by his presence. Austin Slater has been a secret weapon with a .429 average, two homers and nine RBI’s in five games since his call-up. Pablo Sandoval has been a great story and has hit either in a starting role or pinch-hitting role. Madison Bumgarner and Jeff Samardzija are finding their rhythm in the starting rotation. Shaun Anderson and Tyler Beede are learning how to pitch at the Major League level. The bullpen is full of solid arms. Will Smith has nailed down all 23 saves this year with a 1.98 ERA. Sam Dyson has a 2.30 ERA, Mark Melancon has been a nice option, and Tony Watson is the eighth-inning guy. Reyes Moronta can escape out of any jam it seems like.
The Bad: The Giants bats might have finally turned on, but it might be too late. The team is winning and it’s already the middle of July. The team will need to leap frog lots of teams to get the second wild-card spot. Farhan Zaidi has not been shy about making moves this year. He has moved tons of outfield pieces and will likely trade Madison Bumgarner, Will Smith, and Tony Watson at the trade deadline. The good news is that the Giants have some reinforcements at AAA. Fernando Abad, Pat Venditte, and Ray Black can all help the bullpen if current arms get traded. It should be an interesting month for the Giants.
