Imagine Shoji taking the kids out to the store to buy groceries while you sit at home, enjoying some peace and quiet.

One can imagine what a sight it is, turning onto the cereal aisle of their local grocery store, only to come face to face with an easily recognizable pro hero his in street clothes. He's rocking the classic cargo shorts, white tanktop and outdated tennis shoes, his face obscured by a camo mask.

"Hey, cool it, Shoyo," He warns a rambunctious silver-haired boy to stop chasing a similar-looking girl, who seems to be entirely fed up with the game. "Be nice to your sister." Shoji sighs, adjusting a bundle in his arms. "Guys, can you pick some cereal please?"

The pair of kids, as well as two other girls who peek out from behind his legs, survey the selection, each picking their favorite and tossing them into the basket. Their father grimaces at their picks. "These are just sugar and grain..." He sighs, grabs a box of Cheerios, and hoists the baby in his arms to his face. Pulling his mask down, he kisses her forehead. "Well, you and me'll eat the healthier stuff, won't we? Before you get a taste for sweets."

The unit makes its way through the store and the basket piles high with wants and needs alike. "Dad," Shoyo, the eldest and only boy begs as they pass a giftcard kiosk. "Can we get Vbucks?"

"Absolutely not," Shoji replies, wiping his face exhaustedly. "You're already on that game more than you should be, besides, your mother would kill me."

The boy groans and the second eldest, Rui sticks her tongue out at him, as payback for chasing her earlier. "Told you he'd say no." Before he can intervene, sensing a conflict on the horizon, Shoji feels a tug on his shorts. Glancing behind him, he finds his twin daughters, Umi and Mio, shy as ever behind him. The former rubs her eyes with a yawn.

The pro hero softens, reduced to jelly at the sight. "Awe, are we tired already?" He soothes, pulling her against his leg, his hand cradling the back of her small head. Mio nods with a sleepy frown. Sighing, Shoji glances back at the shopping list, then at his energetic older kids, and finally back to his drowsy youngest three. "Alright, c'mere," He relents, shifting the back to another arm before carefully lifting the twins up, securing them in his embrace.

Shoyo and Rui, noticing their sisters' special treatment rush over, claiming they've been overcome by a sudden bout of exhaustion, and that they need to be carried as well. "Are you serious?" Their father scoffs, cocking a brow at them. "You're nine and ten, I don't need to carry you."

"But dad, we're so tired!" The boy complains, doubling over dramatically.

"Yeah, daddy, my feet hurt!" The girl adds, grasping her knees. Never able to tell any of his kids 'no', he relents, scooping them up into a calm shell of flesh on his back. After all his babies are secure, he decides to change course, heading for the produce section for a gift for his biggest baby: you.

Yuri Romance Light Novel from the Creator of 'Adachi and Shimamura' Licensed in English

On Friday, Yen Press announced that it has licensed the Yuri drama light novel series My First Love's Kiss (Watashi no Hatsukoi Aite ga Kiss Shiteta) and will release the first volume in August 2024. The series is written by Adachi and Shimamura creator Hitoma Iruma and illustrated by popular Yuri artist Fly (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki).

The publisher describes the series:

Takasora Hoshi’s life is upended when a girl from her class named Umi Mizuike and her mother temporarily move into her family’s cramped apartment. From the outset of this arrangement, Takasora finds herself annoyed by Umi’s behavior...and her good looks. And though the two girls initially agree to avoid interfering with each other’s lives, Takasora can’t help but start to wonder where Umi keeps wandering off to at night…

My First Love's Kiss is connected to Iruma's high school Yuri series Adachi and Shimamura, with crossover characters appearing in later volumes. However, unlike that series, its story is more bittersweet and gloomy.

The light novels began publication in Japan in January of 2022 under ASCII Media Works's Dengeki Bunko imprint. The third and final Japanese volume was released in December of that year.

Hitoma Iruma is a Japanese author best known for his series Ground Control to Psychoeletric Girl and Adachi and Shimamura, both of which received anime and manga adaptations. Fly has also contributed artwork, cover illustrations, and manga for several anthologies, including four volumes of Syrup (Licensed by Seven Seas), the first Bloom Into You Anthology (Seven Seas), and éclair (Yen Press).

Small talk (chaoxiang x kema short fic!)

The blonde haired girl was invited to a mansion by a her new friend, trickster. When the young girl got there, she was confused on the kind of aesthetic and how the others behaved in this 'family' .

"You can explore around, little miss kema! Just don't go..too far" said trickster, all though kema was suspicious of what she had said, but decided to mind her own business and explore her new friends big house.

The only one whom stood out to her was a brown haired tall boy. She noticed he was awfully quiet compared to the others, he was sitting on a wall, smoking on some kind of traditional pipe.

"Yo"

kema said to the much taller boy. The brown haired boy looked down at her, quickly knowing why this girl was here.

"Oh..hello"

All though kema wasn't the talkative person

(it's been god since knows when she's started a conversation with someone who wasn't north sky or sofia)

kema noticed the two had something in common.

"Your..uhm..Chao..ze-"

"It's chaoxiang"

"O-oh sorry.." Kema apologised, looking at the floor. Slowly starting to regret starting a conversation.

"No no dear" Chaoxiang looked at the shorter girl, who was looking at the ground.

"It's alright dearie, don't worry about it" chaoxiang said, immediately smoking his pipe after.

"O-okay" after a mini awkward silence between the two, chaoxiang broke it within seconds.

"So, one of tricksters friends?"

"Y-yeah, she invited me over. No offense, but this family's kinda..ya know.." she said as she moved her hand, tilited her hand side to side.

Chaoxiang ignored what kema just said, instead changing the subject.

"Are there any more friends here?" Chaoxiang looked around, wondering if trickster did something stupid again.

"N-no, just me..she said if I brought anyone else over she'd..not be happy"

"That sounds concerning" chaoxiang dropped.

"Y-yeah but, I don't blame her"

"Uhm" chaoxiang grunted. Still looking at the smaller girl.

"I like your..style, the yellow eyepatch with that smily face..adds to it" chaoxiang said, looking up and down at the girl, which kema was quick to notice.

"Oh, thanks, I deisgned it myself. I wanted to go for more of a 'don't touch me' look, ya know?" It was rare for kema to be confident, especially when talking to new people like this.

Chaoxiang smiled after kemas words, all though it seemed corny. She seemed so young and still learning the world around her.

"Oh, by the way" chaoxiang coughed "whats your name? I never got it"

"O-oh! It's kema, kema umi.."

"Oh well then, that is a pretty name, especially for someone like you, you suit it" chaoxiang closed his eyes and took another puff of his pipe.

Kema blushed at this, no one's really complimented her name since north sky learnt she was changing her name. So it gave her some happiness, which again wanst the most common thing for her.

Chaoxiang puffed again while side eying kema.

She was sort of different from the other visitors trickster brought over the past couple of years, chaoxiang thought, not different different but stood out just a tiny bit to him.

After a small minute, kemas small bit of happiness immediately died when her phone started buzzing in her pocket.

She bit her nail, while reaching for her pocket "please be north sky, please be north sky" She muttered under her breath.

Chaoxiang noticed this quickly but didn't comment on it.

Kema looked at her phone, sadly it wasn't north sky, it was someone that went by "bitch auntie 🖕"

"Fuuucck" kema moaned, removing her hand from her mouth and on her forehead. Obviously not in the best mood.

Kema sighed and picked up the phone.

"*sigh* hello?" Kema said disappointingly, walking away from chaoxiang into the dining room.

Chaoxiang couldn't make up the words through the wall, or her aunt was talking about, but he could tell it wasn't pretty.

After half a minute, chaoxiang saw kema slowly walk back towards him, she looked like she was almost gonna cry, but still tried to keep a tough look on.

"I-i gotta go, tell trickster I had to leave..okay?"

Chaoxiang nodded, but had a deep concern for the young girl, all though his face didn't show it. He seemed very concerned for what happened on the phone call and why she was scared to pick it up.

Kema left, running through the halls quickly.

Chaoxiang took another puff as he watched her. Slightly disappointed she had to leave, especially in a rush like this.

"Hm" chaoxing said, walking away from the wall that they talked on. Shrugging his shoulders on his way to his bedroom.

you and osamu had been together six months before you finally introduced him to your daughter, mayumi. it took you another four months before you really started letting them interact together, afraid that she’d grow attached to him and something would happen, leaving her confused and heartbroken.

that however was almost a year and a half ago. now it was rare to find her anywhere other than attached to osamu’s hip, begging to go to “osa’giri” as she adorably called osamu’s restaurant. and if you weren’t there keeping him company while he worked you were at either of your apartments. you were almost convinced she liked him more than she liked you at this point.

today was no different, the three of you sitting in your apartment. mayumi being five, she was constantly running in the room, looking between you and osamu before rushing back into her bedroom to do god knows what. it made the two of you laugh each time, placing little bets back and forth as to what she was doing. it didn’t take long for her to run in for the final time with two pieces of paper in her small hands.

she handed you and osamu each a piece of paper, both being drawings of the three of you in messy crayon.

you watched the way osamu’s eyes lit up, like she had just handed him the most priceless piece of art in the world, large smile painted on his face. “this fer me, umi?” his use of her nickname made your heart swell, watching mayumi carefully as she nodded her head.

“mm!” she beamed, pointing at the picture in his hand, “made one for mommy’s fridge, wanted to make one for daddy’s, too!”

both you and osamu had completely frozen at her words, sharing a look between each other. the two of you never talked about whether or not mayumi would call him any variation of dad, you were worried he’d be against the idea while he was worried he’d be overstepping if he asked.

even at five, mayumi was a smart girl. she caught the way both of your faces stopped and looked at each other, even after you quickly corrected yourselves and thanked her for the drawing. she ran back into her room, you didn’t miss the way her big eyes filled up with tears right before.

“i’m gonna go talk to her,” you set the paper down on the table and followed your daughter into her room, where she sat on the floor crying. “mayumi, baby, what’s wrong? i promise ‘samu and i loved your drawing-”

“am i in trouble for calling osa daddy?” she asked, latching herself onto your shoulder as soon as you sat next to her, “i don’t want you or daddy to be mad at me, it was an accident, i swear!”

“mad at you?” you pulled her away to look in her eyes, wiping the tears from her cheeks. “baby, daddy and i would never be mad at your for an accident. you just caught ‘samu and i off guard. if you feel like you want to call him that, we’ll talk to your dad okay?” you rubbed your hand on her back, hugging her tightly. you waited until she settled down and stopped crying to ask if she wanted to be alone, giving her a kiss on the forehead and saying a small goodbye before walking back out to osamu.

you didn’t let it show to her, but you were very nervous about what he’d have to say. it couldn’t be anything horrible, he’s the one that introduced you and osamu in the first place. but still, that didn’t mean he’d want to share the title of dad.

“what was wrong?” osamu asked, nervously running his hands over his thighs. he loved mayumi like his own daughter, no matter how long he had known the little girl. she was his whole world, and seeing her cry made his heart ache, “was everything okay?”

“she was worried she’d be in trouble for calling you daddy,” you told him, “she said she didn’t want bo or i to be mad at her for it.” your heart hurt recounting her words, her little golden eyes full of tears. she looked just like her father sometimes, and crying was included in those times. “i told her that she wasn’t, but i think it’s about time you and i have that conversation with him.”

osamu felt like his heart was going to burst. of course he would be thrilled if mayumi wanted to call him some variation of dad. but he was worried bokuto would be less than thrilled about it. she’s his baby, afterall, osamu wasn’t sure he’d want his daughter to call another man dad, either. “d’ya think he’s free right now?”

bonus moment !

“bokuto are you crying right now?” you asked, squinting your eyes at your phone screen. he could try to lie, but you knew your best friend like the back of your hand. he was definitely holding back tears, “if you’re not okay with it, i’ll find a way to explain to umi that-”

“that’s not it,” bokuto sniffled, smiling at you through the phone while wiping some of the tears away from his eyes, “she can call him whatever she wants. i’m just happy she’s got someone else to be there for her like that y’know? i know i can’t there for her as much as i want to be. i’m thankful osamu will be able to be that for her where i can’t be,”

osamu looked away from the camera, trying to hold back tears of his own. it meant a lot to get bokuto’s approval of something like this. “thank you, bokuto. promise i’ll take real good care of her. of both of them.”

“you better,” boktuo sniffled another time, “those are my girls. most important people in my life.”

you were too busy wiping away your tears (this was a big moment for all of you, tears are expected okay) to see the way osamu looked over at you, but bokuto saw the whole thing.

“they’re mine, too, bokuto. won’t let anything happen to them.”

I FINISHED BOYS OVER FLOWERS!!

I have thoughts so this will be long w/ spoilers.

Last night, I finished my 24 hours of boys over flowers manga read-a-thon and I had to sit and ponder at the ending- in the best way.

I am going to miss this series so much.

The Little Mermaid Question

From my last post, yes , of course I was happy that Umi was humbled-or at least hopefully she clues into it someday. I was gagged and gooped.

The reference to the little mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen by Makino solidified this series as a top 3 manga for me. She had my heart when she said

“Why should I be sea foam?”.

It put the good in Goodbye

The call backs from the beginning of the manga were so perfectly woven in as it got closer.

Seeing it all referenced felt like a warm smile. I have to admit, it felt bittersweet knowing why they were here again. I loved that hitting someone with a baseball was how he got his memories back, and bringing up her dropped friend character.

The pacing was refreshing and not heavy. It felt like I could breathe still. The sushi restaurant was a cute reunion. Especially, the detail that she jump ropes in her apartment still.

Yuki

At first, I was annoyed with how much time we spent with Yuki—Only because I was so stressed knowing how little time was left!!

Thankfully, I told myself to relax because I really loved that plot. I felt so stressed for her, and it was so well written. Yuki is such a cool character and storyline.

The billboard reveal with Sarah gagged me. Also that she took him back up on the offer, and I was moved to see she was a different person now. She grew so much.

I loved them all eating cake until dawn.

Also loved Makino craving ramen after. I love that her and Tsukasa were alone eating soup in the restaurant. (Well more just Makino). It was cute.

This chapter fed the girls who don’t end up with their first love, and it was done so thoughtfully. It also made me accept if our main couple don’t end up together, or grow together.

They can change as people, and grow apart. That’s normal. They don’t need to prove to anyone that their love was genuine and they tried. Looking back, I am so happy this was included in the end.

And speaking of our main couple. The four year drop…..

I literally had to put my phone down. And scream breathe.

Esp. After the memory loss plot?!

I took a metaphorical drag of a metaphorical cigarette here, and I chewed on that metaphorical smoke before blowing it out.

But…that’s so them! They don’t give us fanservice for them much at peace and although that made me so upset, but we have the whole series to look back on.

It took me throughout the day (even after jewel box) to forgive him for that.

I was thinking about how the hospital arc ended and he’s such a different person without Makino, I can see how she changed him, and now he can be on equal footing with her. She helped him challenge himself and his mom, and live for something.

I am grateful Rui told her to live for herself, and I appreciate her family coming through for her senior year. It was all very true to their chaotic and broke characters and the timing of them trying to move all the time.

Also, the almost hookup!! Her well badly timed fever. I am happy it didn’t happen, because I felt like their story has to continue now.

Also it wasn’t really them. It’s too planned.

We know it has to be after a fight lmaoo.

I think if they did go through with it, it would have been harder to live so far apart too.

I cannot believe that she woke up alone. Not even 24 hours with her guy? At the same time, I like that it must’ve help cement that she didn’t want to leave Japan.

I only wish he planned the date to be closer to home for the vibes to be more immaculate, but I know that it is not his vibe, and there was too much going on (new job, graduating, prom, etc.).

It felt like a cop-out on their first planned trip abroad as a couple. The proposal idea was funny, I genuinely laughed with how much she couldn’t stand the roses smell. I would think the same.

I am sending a theme that he is terrible with grand romantic gestures.

Conclusion

Amazing Shoujos are so life changing, and truly the strongest genre. I love a manga that makes you cry. It makes me love love and remember how fuzzy you feel in it, and I needed that lately. This is so close to my heart.

I regretted reading it so fast but then I remembered how I can read it again and that made me more excited.

I loved the characters. I want to watch the anime (I am begging for a remake in the style of lost heroine).

I saw a lot of other female pro tags in our Makino. Like Kagome from Inuyasha in our main girl, and it’s interesting that their timelines match up production wise! I like that I can see Mao Mao from Apothecary Diaries a bit in her too. They’re going to be themselves whether people like it or not!

Then like the greedy child I am, I had to reach for the jewel-box volume because FOUR YEARS?YOUR TELLING ME NOTHING HAPPENS? I know I don’t need to know all the answers and our characters are strong, but I was excited for a peek.

So…I already finished it. I might make a separate post for that, but honestly this ending helped me feel at peace. It felt more like a cherry on top (and who am I kidding I love more Rui).

I don’t know if I can start the season 2 yet, but I am tempted. I miss hearing Tsukasa’s mis-entendre of phrases and things! Like light and day. I also just want to think about the story more.

I remember I downloaded Jump to read this series. I forgot after the signup process (lol), read one piece instead and thankfully remembered it. It is 100% up in my favorite mangas (a growing list but I love this manga so much).

This was so fun to read.

Honestly? 10/10.

It’s camp, timeless, insane and it knows it. It loves it. It is also mature, heartfelt and honest. The author truly loved crafting this.

I also love her updates throughout! Reading this in time must’ve been a treat and hell.

She's so bright, and so lovely, and she would never notice you.

Crisp edges of her skirt. Clean, manicured nails. A fresh, youthful face. The scent of linens and candyfloss. Cool hands on your skin as she brushes by you on the train.

Everything about her is perfect, from her soft strands of blue hair that frame her ivory face to the gentle flick of her eyes as she glances away from her phone. You haven't heard her say much; just heard her giggling once to a friend she brought along. You haven't seen that other girl since, but it's possible she just doesn't take the train that often. You do though, and that's why you notice her every day that she steps on and back off the platform.

She's wearing a new outfit today. A soft, pink pleated skirt and a white blouse with the sleeves rolled up. Her bangs are clipped back with a little corn of cob barrette, and it's the cutest thing you've seen all day. Her eyes are bright with contentment. She must be in a good mood. This is your chance.

"Hi," You call out softly, barely audible over the bustle and chatter of the train. Her ears don't even perk up, nor do her eyes break away from the scroll she's doing absentmindedly–another attempt at a greeting paired with the lightest tap on her shoulder gets her attention, though, the blue-haired beauty turning her gaze up to cast a sideways glance at you. Oh god. This was a mistake. She's too pretty for you to even comprehend up close.

"Oh, hi!" Her face breaks out into a big smile. Straight, pearly teeth gleam back at you through a pinky, sparkly mouth, her lip gloss so elegantly applied you can't detect a single smudge. Even when her hair brushes her cheek and she smoothly tucks a strand of it back behind her ear, not a single finger smudges any of the light makeup she's wearing today. You wouldn't say it to her face, but she certainly doesn't need any–she has that kind of natural beauty that only comes around once in a lifetime.

"I-I just, um…y-you're the prettiest girl I've ever seen. I wanted to say that." Your stumbling and stuttering matches a hot face, cheeks burning with shame at simply looking into the eyes of such a beautiful person with so little confidence. She could reject you in the worst way and you would absolutely think you deserve it.

"Aww!" She squeaks, high-pitched and giggly like it's the best thing she's heard all day. "How sweet are you? I'm actually a-" One of those soft-looking fingers raises to tap on one of the buttons pinned to the strap of her bag, small and glittery with the words they/them printed on it in purple lettering. "-You know. But thank you! You're just adorable."

Your heart flutters and freezes in an instant, an apology spilling out of your mouth as you try to backpedal, but they just shake their head and giggle louder while brushing it all off. It's a common mistake, they say, and their kindness just drags you in closer like a lovesick dog on a leash.

"What's your name, sweetie?" You hand it over as easily as you'd drop to your knees if you could. They repeat each letter under their breath as they make a reminder on their hand, before gingerly taking your wrist between those cool fingers and scribbling something into your palm with a shake of the glitter pen they pulled from their purse. Rather than letters, you spot numbers–and upon pulling it back to look, you realize it's for their cell. You've got their phone number? You?

"Here's my stop," They turn their gaze alongside yours to peer up at the next station, the car slowing to a pause as the doors prepare to open, before meeting eyes with you one last time. They're so blue it's simply mesmerizing, like sapphires shining beneath a clear ocean on a sunny day like today. "I'm Umi, by the way. Call me later, 'kay sweetie?"

Umi winks, and with a step off the train they vanish into the crowd clustering around the platform. The blue-haired beauty disappears just as a rainbow does in the dark, and though you can envision the path the rest of your day will take, you won't feel truly alive until it's over and you can see them once again.
