A Promise
Brady had been unenthusiastic about going to the gym. Actually, âunenthusiasticâ may have been a light way to put it. Although he should have had the typical confidence of a college senior, his low self-esteem and horrible body image rendered him unable to socialize with others. Brady had made a promise to himself that visiting the gym would solve his problems. He hoped working out would at least combat his issues with body image, and then eventually friends would begin to magically come to him.
But now, standing in the massive gym, Brady could not help but let his eyes widen as he scanned the room of all the machines. Why were there so manyâdid humans truly have so many body parts to further develop? It was insane, overwhelming in a way that Brady was beginning to feel suffocated.
âPreviewing all the options?â a male voice caught Brady by alarm.
âUhhâŠâ he swung around to greet the mystery person, immediately having to trace his eyes up along the rippled chest before him. Thanks to his smaller, hairless body, Brady appeared like a boy next to this man. âYeah,â Brady stupidly replied, holding back a blush. He had not meant to lie, but the handsome jock twice his size caught him completely off guard.
Unfazed, the muscular jock stuck out a hand with a pleasant smile, âMichael.â
âBrady.â
âThe gym truly has everything a bro needs. Itâs so great that the college focuses on funding areas for the majority of students, unlike other schools,â Michael remarked. Obviously there was a backhanded comment in that remark, but Brady was a little too infatuated to notice.
âIt is impressive,â Brady agreed. âThereâs just so much to work with, I donât know where to begin.â
Michael chuckled, jabbing a bit at the shorter male. âWhat? A guy like you! By the looks of it Iâd bet you follow a pretty rigid routine.â
âHuh?â Brady peered down at his baggy sweatshirt and sweats, confused.
âDonât think your pump cover can fool me,â Michael poked. âA bro like you should only wear tight, revealing stuff anyway.â
Brady suddenly felt extremely self-conscious. There were too many places his extra weight hung off him weirdly. âUhhhâŠIâŠI donât really-â
âWhat's the point of working out if you donât show it off.âÂ
Brady had an argument, but it suddenly left him, replaced by: âI meanâŠI donât want to seem rude.â Subconsciously, he rubbed the back of his head, flexing his huge bicep almost on reflex. Brady did not realize just how much his veins were bulging out, squeezed by the tight black tee.Â
Michael laughed. âBro who cares, youâre an alpha male! Take up some spaceâitâs your right after all.âÂ
Brady thought back to how people had treated him all throughout life. People did look up to him, followed him around like helpless puppies. He had received high grades without even putting in the work, gotten one-night stands with pretty boys by a simple wink. Being ripped had its privileges.
âCâmon, stand a little taller bro. Put some hair on that chest.â Michael gave him a rough, playful pat on the back. Brady straightened back out after a moment, standing eye-to-eye with the other attractive jock. âThere ya go, men like us are born superior. I bet you could even crush skulls between those thighs.
âIâve cracked open a few watermelons in my day,â Brady showcased the glorious muscles underneath his short shorts. He could not help but take a moment to admire his legs, carved beautifully all the way down to his great stompers. It made Brady feel really good; he did deserve to enjoy his muscular body and display it for all to see.
âYou got a girl yet?â Michael suddenly asked, pulling Brady back in.
âUhhhhâŠâ a flash of concern paused Brady.Â
âYou gotta be kidding!â Michael announced with an exaggerated amount of shock. âWhoâs gonna keep you in check, bro? You probably work up a sweat beating all those fags back into place, so how else are you gonna relieve that pent-up energy if you arenât smashing any pussy?â
The statement was a lot. Brady did not have a response immediately, but eventually his face softened, releasing a dumb guffaw. âYeah bro, youâre probably right. Itâs hard being the top dog all the time without getting any thanks.â
Michael smirked, âCourse it is! Tell you what, flex those pumps for me and Iâll send them to a few of the chicks I know. I promise youâll get some action by the end of the day.â
âReally?â Brady could not believe this steal rubbing happily at his beard. âThanks bro!â Eagerly, he pulled up the lower half of his shirt and pumped his massive arms into the air.
âOof, I guess you really do work up a sweat. Those pits are ripe, man!â Michael applauded. âNow, letâs get you laid!â

Heatwave: Day 6
tw: explicit content. 9k+ words. Satoru/Reader. female!omega!reader, alpha!gojo. mutual pining, light angst, YEARNING, so much yearning, PIV, heat/rut sex, minor breeding kink, choking, reader and gojo are switches, gojo is kind of a masochist. intense bickering. you and gojo are both pathetically whipped and in love, and i do mean pathetic
Prompt: Mating cycles are as violent as they are horny, intent to kill is high.
It took some convincing to get you a position as a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High School â plenty of traditional fools in charge who thought omegas were better as childbearers than sorcerers.
But you got there. After ten years teaching in public schools, teaching at Tokyo Jujutsu High was what you'd always wanted: small classes with dedicated students who you could form real bonds with.
As a sorcerer, you had the potential to become a special grade â but your true passion was teaching, and it was a far better use of your talents to help the newest sorcerers improve.
Other teachers werenât quite as gifted in the art of passing on knowledge. Like the special grade sorcerer no one ever shut up about, Satoru Gojo.
He was seven years younger than you â practically a student himself. But somehow, here he was, a teacher alongside you. Nepotism, maybe, combined with how obviously alpha he was â freakishly tall, well-built, and unnervingly confident, used to getting his way.
Youâre not certain of his credentials as a teacher. If he has any at all.
If you were forced to guess, youâd assume Gojo had at least a PhD in pissing you the fuck off.
âAwh, câmon now,â Heâd snickered at your implication. âLike itâs hard?â
You could kill him. Actually, cross that out â you will kill him, just as soon as youâre finished riding his stupid big, fat knot to absolute oblivion.
Alphas, for all their pride, are even dumber and hornier than omegas in heat once their rut kicks into high gear and they lock their knot into someone.
Youâll choke him out then, you plan â if that doesnât just make him roll all six eyes in exaggerated pleasure.
Gojoâs just that kind of complete and utter brat. Even if he is an alpha.
Constantly stalking you from behind, ready to throw his arms around your shoulders in some lazy half-embrace. Lording his stupid height over you, his seemingly endless youthful energy.
âHey~â Heâd drawl, leaning into you, knowing exactly how much the action exposed his scent, âHowâs it going with the students? Teach âem any new tricks?â
You werenât some early-twenties dewy-eyed omega; his scent didnât have any more effect on you than a nice cologne would have. âYes, I think today went well. Theyâre bright kids, Iâm proud of them.â
âOho! We should celebrate your success!â Not pleased with your response, heâd squeezed your shoulders close, enough that you couldnât walk away. âDrinks on me! Letâs head out~â
âHitting on older women?â Youâd returned, shrugging him off so you could walk away, âWhat, have you successfully repulsed every potential mate of your own age group? Quite a feat, even for you, Gojo.â
âAwh, donât be like that. Iâm just trying to show my support! I know ladies your age tend to get a lot of flak these days, especially from the higher-upsâŠâ
It had been a pretty low blow from him, considering how much he disliked the higher-ups and tradition as a whole. Looking back, that was probably him getting desperate for some kind of reaction.
Like a fool, youâd given it to him.
Spinning, whipping around to tuck your finger beneath his chin, just tickling at his neck, inches from his scent glands.
âLadies my age donât go for boys like you, Satoru-kun,â you purr, snatching his chin and pulling his pretty face closer to yours, âAnd Iâll have you know, I have no interest one-night stands.â
He grins that awful, gorgeous grin with those pretty sparkling eyes. âNow when did I say I wanted anything like that? Youâve got a dirty mind there. I just wanted to get drinks.â
âWhen did I say you did?â You hold his gaze like you would the leash of a particularly disobedient dog. âI was just letting you know. But since you just want to get some celebratory drinks, Iâll ask Shoko and Nanami to come along.â
Heh. Transparent disappointment flashes across his face, like heâs bitten into a lemon, but heâs quick to brighten up.
âMy mistake, I got a little too excited~â He follows alongside you with his stupidly long stride, hands in his pockets, âI was just soooo~ happy to hear you donât do one-night stands. Iâd get super jealous!â
This he says, right after taunting you for suggesting he wanted one? What a little shit.
âDo you also recall the part where I said I wasnât interested in little boys?â You mutter, texting Shoko and Nanami about the meetup.
You can still feel his presence behind you. Pheromones drifting through your awareness. Gojoâs got such a weird scent for an alpha. Artificial and sour and sweet. Blue raspberry. Electric, just a whiff of it tingles. You lick your lips.
âYeah, I heard you. Good to know my darling kohai Nanami is safe from your clutches~â He sings.
Fucking insufferable.
-
The thing about alphas was that they got aggressive when their ruts came around.
From experience youâd known his limitless could be turned on and off at will, and he could allow his scent to drift through it.
Not only was Gojo nearing his rut, he wanted you to know that he was nearing his rut. The air is oozing with his stinging, cloying scent that makes your mouth water. You have to swallow your spit a few times.
So when Gojo insisted that you spar with him, you just knew it was going to fucking suck.
He was going to use it to force unnecessary contact, shove his scent in your face, taunt and tease you while he physically prevented you from leaving.
Then, the million dollar question. Why the fuck did you ever agree to it?
Deep down, you tell yourself itâs to shut his stupid ass up. Because itâll make for good practice, and thatâs not even a lie. Or even just because heâs got a pretty face, and you want eye candy.
You tell yourself it has nothing to do with the heat you know youâre just on the verge of.
Nothing to do with the rut that has him smelling absolutely delectable.
The adrenaline that bursts through your veins as he races towards you is purely from the thrill of combat.
The exhilaration of watching his strike swing through empty air, the slight shock on his face; thatâs because youâre proud of your skills.
Youâre not panting, teeth bared in an awful grin, arms tightening back to grab him and hold him down, make him yours yours all yours â this is a combat stance.
Not that you wanted to fight him that badly in the first place. Feel his strikes against yours, touch that infinity for yourself. See what heâs offering, that he likes to throw it in your face so much.
Itâs not any of that, and you whip out a denial for each thought as it rises like you dodge Gojoâs strikes with increasing desperation. Fast. Fast, so fast, like a blink. Here one moment, there the next.
Focus. On him. White hair, black tracksuit, that little flash of blue youâd see anywhere. You pin your senses on him, on the scent that dances in the air, tempting you. Put every fiber of your being into matching his strikes, which come faster, and faster, until eventually even you canât dodge them.
White hair. Blue eyes. Pink lips. Pretty, pale face. Pressure down against you, breath, scent, hot in your face. Focus, focus.
Anything to take your attention from the way your thighs want to clench together when he pins you down, nose brushing against yours.
Close enough no infinity could stop you if you wanted to lean forward into the neck showing under his collar and bi-
âYou goinâ easy on me?â He practically purrs in your ear. Infuriating.
So you let yourself purr back. Take in his pheromones for just a second, lean into it, relaxing underneath him as you let off an answering scent, laced with the arousal youâre already feeling. Tongue darting between your lips for a moment as you let your eyes linger on his pretty mouth, pretty face.
Gojoâs eyes dilate as your lashes flutter, tilting your lips to â
SLAM
âNo,â You sing to his crumpled form, hunched over from the blow to his middle, âI think youâre easy, Gojo. Come back when youâre not a horny little beast about to rut.â
A breathy chuckle comes from him as he situates himself to sit back on his heels, catching his breath.
Unnerving. Everything about this bastard is unnerving. The way he looks up at you, face flushed, grinning with delight â you know for a fact your strike hit hard enough to bruise. Maybe he could heal it, but he was still winded from the impact. It had to hurt, still.
Instead, those too-blue eyes seem to glow at you.
âEasy, huh?â He says, and you pretend he said it to himself. âActually, Iâm pretty hard.â
(You try very hard to pretend you didnât hear that. To pretend you couldnât smell it the moment you struck him.)
He licks his lips, taking in a deep breath, like he caught the scent of something he canât let escape him. Eyes staring after you.
You walk away, before he can catch on to how slick youâve become, just with this little interaction. What are you, a teenager? Maybe youâre close to your heat, but not that close.
Gojo lets you walk.
You think he knows.
(He definitely knows.)
-
He loves to taunt you. Alphas love posturing, looking for fights, as soon as their ruts come around. But an omega nearing their heat would snap at anything that so much as breathed wrong. Ready to see everything as a threat, demanding and critical even of those closest to them.
Both secondary genders had⊠attitude problems during their mating cycles that led to them lashing out. But due to stereotypes, alphas were seen as being dominant and argumentative, whereas omegas were seen asâŠ
âAwh, needy, are we? Must be your heat coming up, huh?â
âStill hitting on older women? Your rut must really have you acting like an animal. Why donât you do us all a favor and find someone to fuck it out with?â God, just talking about it is fucking annoying.
âNot very mature of you to say, maâam!â The look you gave him must have spoken volumes, because he immediately responded, âItâs okay, I know how it is. You donât have to be so shy about admitting it! What omega wouldnât want a strong, handsome alpha like me to take care of them~?â
âKill yourself.â
Satoru Gojo had pried words from your mouth you would otherwise be horrified by. And that wasnât even the worst of it.
The worst of it was he would try to pamper you, just like he claimed you must have needed.
And the worst of that part was that it fucking worked.
He knew all your favorite drinks, snacks, meals. Had things delivered to your desk when even his own moronic self could understand you did not want to see him â always with traces of his scent lingering on the gift.
Papers to grade? Coffee from your favorite café, just the way you liked it.
Indoor from a long training session? Something iced and fruity to sip on.
Back from a stressful mission? A dessert so delectable you double-check to see if Gojo hadnât already taken a bite out of it himself.
âA little pick me up after all your hard work~ The students always talk about how much they love you. Trying to steal my thunder, huh? Good job, sensei!â
The words are irrationally pleasing to read. And he smells good, it always smells too fucking good, refreshing at the first hint and then invigorating the next. Sweet and sour, just like the bastard himself.
Thereâs little bits. A ribbon, a traditional little lunch wrapped in a handkerchief, one time he even just shamelessly sets his coat down next to a drink with another note.
âBy the way, my favorite jacket got stained while getting you this. Since itâs your fault, you can dry clean it for me, right? Make sure to give it back, Iâd miss it so much!â
Awful. Awful terrible man. Giving you every excuse in the book to hoard his scent and pretend you hadnât. You could be throwing these away, for all he knows. Out of pure spite.
(He knows. He must know that you canât throw them away, your instincts scream at you, your heat aches and burns. Each little article you get to squirrel away allows you another night of easier rest. He knows it. You know he does.)
Itâs infuriating. Itâs absolutely fucking infuriating because you know Gojo doesnât mean it like that. Heâs just using this to get to you. Doesnât want anything more than to fuck the closest and most convenient hole because his rut is coming up. He isnât pursuing a relationship with you, this isnât courting, just teasing.
Itâd amuse him, too, after. To tease you about it, probably try some weird shit in the classrooms or on missions â heâs got that air about him. Slutty. Down for anything.
Itâs infuriating and itâs fucking hot. And devastating, because you meant it when you said you donât really do one-night stands.
Heâs just so unreasonably pretty that youâd thought about it when you met him. The attraction is there, on both ends, but the more youâve gotten to know him the more certain you are that itâs a bad idea.
Gojoâs a menace already, and as fun as it was to taunt him, having sex with him would just give him more ammunition. He made everything weird.
All the teasing, the uncomfortable chemistry, the not-courting shit, and youâre in heat. Sure, youâd had casual sex before, but during your heat? Fuck that shit.
Because unfortunately, Gojo is right. You get needy.
Not because youâre an omega. Itâs because youâre you.
When you spend your heat with a partner itâs like you canât stop everything from spilling out.
The desire to know and be known in your entirety. To feel and touch and cherish every inch laid bare, to gift yourself like a sacrament to someone who you know will worship you â
See? Unbearably romantic. And you love it, you eat that shit up. Itâs deep in you, a wanting you donât even wish to deny.
The thought of waking up to an empty bed during your heat drove you mad with loathing and heartbreak. Seeing the person youâd allowed to have you in your heat touching someone else? Youâd be out for blood.
Alphas get territorial. If an alpha sees someone with their partner, theyâre liable to rip the interloper to shreds.
Omegas get possessive. An omega wouldnât care about someone coveting what's theirs, but theyâll rip that partner to shreds if they suspect they have eyes for another.
Itâs funny, how all that nurturing and devotion can turn so easily into equal parts cruelty and violence. To love deeply is to hate deeply, and adoration is so intrinsic to your being that you canât help but fall hard whenever desire takes you.
Youâre a needy little monster, craving love, gentleness, affection. You wouldnât survive whatever he did after, you might not even survive baring yourself to him, letting the extent of your desire be known.
Gojo would rip your poor, tender, beating heart from your chest. Chew it up and spit it out like trash.
And heâs so, so pretty, and he smells so good, and you love the excitement of your back and forth â you adore him, this Satoru Gojo. You want him so bad you can taste it. But Gojo doesnât feel it like you do, like a need deep in his bones that aches all the way to his dreams.
Youâre seven years his senior, have no exceptional qualities, and heâs got all the options in the world. Gojoâs still so young. Thereâs no reason for him to want to be tied to you. If he fantasizes at all, itâs about fucking you, knotting you, not of your teeth on his neck or his own on yours.
And you shouldnât even entertain the idea of him fantasizing about you. You shouldnât entertain any of these thoughts, because for all the violence your love can inflict on him, Gojo is the one who would emerge unscathed. Youâd be left in tatters, and he wouldnât even have the decency not to step all over them.
You canât sleep with him. Youâll die, youâll surely die, itâll absolutely feel like youâre dying to see that pretty face smile sarcastically, or sneer and turn away. Youâll awaken without his warmth beside you and itâll feel like your heart is missing from your chest and youâll have to be reminded of that every time you see him because you work with that fucking nuisance. At your job.
You canât do it. You canât. Off limits, no way.
But youâre (regrettably, unfortunately, miserably) needy when youâre in heat. And Gojo is a horny little beast in his rut.
And he knows, he knows he fucking knows. Heâs there whenever you turn a corner, walk up to a vending machine, sit down to grade papers. Heâs got that awful million watt smile that lights up his entire stupid pretty face when he flirts with you, trades barbs back and forth.
Heâs touchy, too touchy, gets too close. Asks to spar with you again and again until you say yes. Leaves you more treats, more drinks, more little gifts the whole while.
Your hands get dry because your heat wakes you up in the middle of the night, you have to touch yourself constantly. Gojo brings you lotion that smells like raspberries (like him).
Youâre not entirely sure he hasnât fucked around and filled the bottle with lotion thatâs also laced with his cum. You use it anyways. His reaction makes it obvious that he can tell you have, and heâs pleased by it.
You hate him. You hate him, and you want him. You want him so fucking bad.
You canât do this. You canât do it.
Gojo looks at you like he wants to eat you. Like heâs tracking every little twitch, every movement, like a predator and his prey. Like heâs waiting for you to bolt off so he can give chase.
You canât do this.
Youâre not fucking prey. Youâll bite him back, doesnât this stupid man know?
And he spars with you again and youâre left breathless from dodging him â
(you refuse to be touched by someone who is himself untouchable)
And he smells so so so good up close when he finally tackles you, seizes you, locks your arms up from behind you â
(you love to be held, you dream of being held, in the depths of your heat itâs not being filled that comforts you itâs the thought of pressure like a vice grasping you so close, unwilling to let go)
And his face is so devastatingly beautiful up close, those terrible, magnificent eyes like a sea of stars, staring at you like heâs enraptured â
(god, heâs so pretty, just looking at him has a little dose of glee shooting through you)
And his lips taste as good as he smells â
(sweet and sour, can it really be that bad if the sting is all washed away with the tingle of sugary, electric tang on your tongue)
And he holds you so so tight so close so warm â
(youâre pulsing, aching, throbbing, and youâre so fucking tired of your own fingers and heâs grinding against you so good)
And then youâre in your room, at your door, inches away from your nest with all the shameful little bits and pieces of his scent youâve stolen away.
(you canât do this. this man will kill you. he will be the death of you.)
Teeth on your collarbone, huge hands clawing at your shirt, pulling it up. You look down at him, meet his fevered eyes and lust-filled gaze.
His breaths ghost over the skin heâs left wet with kisses and nips. Hungry, so hungry for you. So pretty. You grasp his pretty face with both hands and pull him up into a kiss thatâs more teeth than lips.
(Youâll go out fighting.)
When his tongue darts into your mouth you nearly moan at the taste of him. Gojo groans, and he does it openly, hands wide over your ass and clenching at it. You close your teeth against his tongue, not hard, not biting. Just to feel it. Measuring the give.
Gojo nicks himself on your teeth to pull away, a sparkle in his eyes.
âKnew you wanted me.â Â He pants, licking over your lips, âWanted this. Could smell you.â Lick, lick. âTaste you.â
Fuck. His eyes are wild and eager and you can smell his arousal already dripping free from him. Slotting one of your legs between his lets you press up and confirm his hardness. He moans at it, purposefully loud.
Massive. Heâs massive, hard, and aching for you, so much he nearly howls at the pressure. Clawing your clothes off of you. Youâre no better, yanking off his jacket, tugging his shirt up â and he lets you â tossing them into your bed.
âLook at you,â Kiss, kiss, he steals the words between presses of his mouth on your skin, like he has to breathe you and not the air, âLook at that sweet little nest. Helped you with it, didnât I? Arenât I just the greatest alpha?â
Itâs hard, so fucking hard, to ignore how delight laces through your chest at his words. This nest, this place where youâve languished for too long already in your heat, now an alpha (your alpha) is here and happy to fill it up (fill you up), curl up in it with you.
âYouâre talking too much,â is all you dare to let yourself voice.
You seize his pants and underwear by the waistband, dragging them down his hips. Gojo stumbles, undignified, towards you, but even then, heâs tall enough to press you to fall back into the strategic mess of blankets, pillows, and your hoarded pieces of his offerings.
Heâs still grinning as he pins you down. Arms on either side of you. Tall, so tall, so much larger than you. Larger than life. Your beautiful, ferocious alpha, all hard and excited just for you.
âToo bad. I love talking.â Gojoâs eyes stay trained on yours as he mouths over a breast, sucking as much of it as he can into his mouth.
âNo, really? Would never have guessed.â the grumble escapes you, and he giggles.
He watches you still, tense, and try not to lean into the sensation as he plays at your nipple with his tongue, teeth. Pulls away with a pop.
You hear him kicking off what remains of his clothes, but you canât bring yourself to look down.
âI can smell your slick from here,â A hand tracing up the inside of your thigh, âMouthwatering.â
So wet you can almost feel yourself gushing. His hands are inches away from it. Heavy, warm form bearing down on you as he moves to suck at your other breast. Teasing fingers where your leg joins to your body.
âIs that all your mouthâs good for?â
His laughter had been far too mocking to be endearing, just like his grip on your hips had been just a bit tighter than pleasant, his grin wide enough to be smug instead of sweet.
Wretched and traitorous, your heart lurches at his beautiful face, anyways.
âIf you wanted me to show you,â Those blue, blue eyes never leave yours as he trails his face down your body, âYou couldâve just asked, babe.â
Your hand finds its way into his hair, which is naturally as soft and pleasant to the touch as youâd dreamed it was. You clench tightly and he rumbles in approval.
âLike it rough, do you, omega?â His breathes, right over your drooling cunt. âMe, too.â
âYouâd be so fucking hot,â You pant, âIf you kept your damn mouth closed.â
When he laughs again, it feels a little better, but heâs always got to dig in. Pressing kisses to your clit that leave you fighting the urge to kick your legs.
âIâm always hot, baby,â God, it feels so sinful, so good, to have his exhalation ghosting over your slickness, âYouâre just all antsy âcause of your heat. Let me make you cum, calm you down.â
This has the opposite effect of calming you down and he knew it would. Probably expected you to wrap your legs around his waist while he buried his face in your cunt, digging your heels hard into his sides, like spurs.
âWould be the first useful thing your mouth has done all year.â Gojo snickers against you and itâs annoying how good it feels.
And then he closes his lips around your clit, tongue tracing swiftly all over it, and you couldnât stop squirming if you tried. Canât stop the noises that come out of your mouth, spilling out, overflowing, like how the slick just pours from your clenching hole.
He fingers into you, two at once, and itâs embarrassing how little you feel it at all. Two, in and out, then a third, stretching inside you. Spreading them apart inside you. Making these awful wet noises â it doesnât help that Gojo likes to smack his lips while he eats.
âTasty. So wet. Did you stretch yourself for me?â He asks between laps at your clit, pressing himself closer to you while you whimper and teeter on the edge, âGot some knot toys to prep?â
âFuck â Gojo!â Even when youâre trying to snap at him, he makes it fucking impossible, suckling at your clit before you can get the words out.
You cum with a light, airy cry. Short, shallow gasps as your other hand darts down to grasp his shoulder. Clinging.
âI will, I will,â Gojo takes a deep breath, over the wetness of you, making you shiver.
Eyes like blue flame look up at you. Sinful tongue hanging out of his mouth like a dog. Licking sticky lips. âMustâve been hard, all that time you spent waiting. Donât you worry, Iâve got a nice big knot ready just for you.â
And god, itâs fucking terrible, how you have to suppress a shiver of delight at his words, as he crawls up your body to be eye-level with you. His cock rubs along your sex, wetting itself so easily it should be embarrassing.
It is big. Itâs so big and the knot swelling at the base of it is even better, thick and pulsing and throbbing.
Your stupid horny omega brain wails at the prospect of finally, finally being filled up by something hot and pulsing and living. Strong enough to hold you down and breed you. Heâd give you the prettiest kids.
Oh god, oh fuck. Omega brain is seizing the steering wheel right now and youâre fucking terrified of where itâll take you. You have no idea what youâre going to do when he knots you.
And he WILL fucking knot you if you have to mount and ride him yourself.
Heâs grinning. Your instinct screams at you to bite. âI could smell it on you just now, you know. You want me to knot you soooo bad.â
You return his smile with bared teeth, âYou want to knot me so bad, Gojo.â Youâre still oversensitive when you grind your cunt against him but itâs worth it to see his stupid jaw drop open, âIt makes you look fucking stupid.â
Pretty, pretty. Heâs so pretty you could cry, and his cock is twitching against you, wet and burning and ready.
âShut up,â Gojo breathes, close enough for you to smell his tingling scent on his breath, âAnd take it.â
A snarl builds in your throat, climbs on your lips â only to be knocked away thoroughly by the feeling of his fat head nudging, hot and swollen at your entrance. Youâre so slick it feels almost gummy against you.
He drives himself in and you bite back a scream. Instead you let your hands claw down his back, and when theyâre far enough down you just reach up to his shoulders again and dig your nails in harder.
The scrape at your fingertips, the way the smooth flesh of his back yields to yours â rough and savage enough to leave his eyes wide and gleaming.
His cock driving into you is like velvet, warm and wet and welcoming, filling an ache that makes you want to cry out.
Thereâs a stretch, because heâs big, of course heâs fucking huge but itâs the delicious type of stretch, a tight pinch that makes you shudder and clench and pull a moan or two out of him in return.
âSee?â He nips at the underside of your jaw. Close, too close, inches away from your scenting glands, licking like he wants a taste, âJust needed some cock to calm you down. Poor â poor little omega, your heat must have been really bad, huh?â
You want to kill him. You want him to fill you up up UP more and more of his cock drives into you, itâs like itâs fucking endless, his knot urges forward at your entrance and the stretch â
âThis â hhgh â coming from the beast in rut,â You snarl through strangled moans, âWhoâs been throwing himself at me like an animal?â
Your hand in his hair trails down, over the back of his neck, and his whole body jerks at the touch. Youâre no better, straining beneath him, talking out loud so you donât lose your mind as his knot slides home.
âDid you think of me while you fucked your hand, Gojo?â Dangerous territory. Dangerous thoughts. âDid you think about what Iâd do to you? About me putting you on your ass while sparring because my scent turned you into a slut?â
He groans, long and laborious. You feel his knot lock in, his head thrown back (neck bared, pretty, pale, so empty and open) as he whines out his release.
It spurts inside you, hot and swelling and heady enough to bring you to a second release as his pelvis grinds against your clit.
âSo what if I did?â Thereâs a challenge in his eyes, bright and sky blue and heart-rendingly beautiful in his blissed out state.
Something churns in your chest, something feral and wanting and you should know better but you canât stop it now â
âAlways think of me,â the demand leaves your lips before you can think of it, âYouâll always think of me when you touch yourself now, Gojo, you wonât be able to cum without it.â Before you know it, youâre purring, both from the afterglow and the words youâve spoken with such misplaced confidence.
He thrusts lightly into you, a short useless movement which just makes you both more aware of his fat, swollen knot as it pumps his cum into you. Gojo purrs back at you, a warm rumble you can feel all throughout his form pressed against yours. His face against your chest, rubbing it â scenting you.
Your arms curl around him. Hold him close. âNever think of anyone else. Only me.â
The only response is louder purring. Itâs painfully pleasant, comfortable, with the length of him pressed against you, his knot buried inside of you.
His eyes are half-lidded, dragging his parted lips over your skin. Itâs too lazy and slow to be called a kiss, but the intimacy of It burns a trail across your skin. He licks at your neck in broad strokes and you mindlessly loll your head to the side, baring it for him.
Both of you content in the silence, sated by your climaxes. The first of many. A lull where you lie locked together so perfectly, enjoying the sinful trickles of his cum filling you up while his knot slowly deflates.
Naturally, Gojo can only let a good thing last so long.
âNever think of anyone else, huh?â His voice is unbearably smug, and smooth, and all things lovely. âPossessive and needy. What were you going to do if I hadnât pounced on you?â
It takes you a moment to respond, disgruntled, âNext time you made an ass of yourself while sparring I wouldâve just bitten you.â
A laugh; breathless and light. âI thought you didnât like younger men?â
âA knot is a knot.â You clench around him a bit, just to drive your point home. It makes him spurt a little more into you, scalding hot. He hisses, face flushing.
Heâs pretty like this. Then again, heâs always pretty.
âYeah?â He leans in with glittering eyes, already recovered. âBet you like my knot best. Bet you wonât want any other after this.â
You already donât. You love the feel of him inside you, how he fits like a glove, how his knot fills you to bursting. Itâs still inside you and you already want to feel it again. You already want him to be yours. All yours, only yours and yours forever.
But this is your asshole coworker who bickers with you, not your fucking boyfriend.
âI want another alpharight now,â You roll your eyes, like saying it would make it real, âA quieter one.â
âHeh.â His smile is as loud as his eyes. âNo, you donât. You wouldnât let me so much as lick you if you werenât already thirsting your brains out for me.â
God, are you that transparent? Or can he see through lies with the six eyes, too?
You push yourself upwards â not easy because Gojoâs laid his uselessly long torso against your chest â and the knotâs still mostly lodged in you but thereâs enough give for you to push him back until youâre sitting on his lap.
Gojo is leaned against you, resting his body weight against you as he purrs like a careless, cuddly cat.
He doesnât even flinch when you cup his face between your hands. Lazy, relaxed, content inside you.
âYou have a lot of cheek for a brat who got hard after I knocked the wind out of him.â You tilt your head to the side. âOr maybe thatâs what youâre hoping for on round two?â
And oh god. This guy canât be for real. His knot has barely gone down enough to pull out and you feel him twitch inside you, hardening again. You pull him out with a twist of your hips and he actually whines.
He licks his lips. âWhat do you think?â
His cock flops against you again, hard, ready to go. You let out an incredulous laugh. âI called you a horny beast, I didnât think you were actually some kind of â breeding whore.â
âMmmh,â Large hands dart to hold your ass, pulling you closer, âMaybe I am. Youâll let me fuck you, though, so I must be doing something right.â
As dirty talk goes, you could do way better. But it looks like Gojo is just that easy â his scent deepens with excitement, electric on your tongue.
Mouthwatering. Stinging. It reaches deeper into you than youâd like, pulls out an answering tug of longing that spills over your lips before you can stop it.
Hands on his shoulders, over those pretty collarbones, shoving him back. Itâs so easy; he falls back for you without resistance. Staring up at you through lowered lashes like an actual seductress.
Satoru Gojo is heartrendingly beautiful, above you or beneath you. It drives you mad.
âTell me,â You want you want you want, âTell me how badly you want to fuck me.â Tell me you want me. Tell me you love me. Tell me youâre mine and youâll never be anyone elseâs.
âYou said it yourself,â Gojo breathes, âIâm a whore, yeah? A beast in rut, throwing myself at you.â
âWhy me?â Tell me Iâm the only one who could ever satisfy you. He might be a dumb horny whore of an alpha, but your omega brain is equally delirious for feeding into this delusion. Tell me you want me. Tell me you love me.
His smile is lazy, eyes glimmering, and you get a terrible intuition that he knows exactly what youâre asking, exactly what you want. And heâs not going to give it to you.
âKnew you could keep up.â He answers with a distinct ring of mockery. Fucking brat.
Wrong answer. Wrong. Answer.
Your hands jump to his throat. Squeezing instinctively. Like you can rip the words out of him, the voice that lights every fiber of your being on fire, in all the worst ways. And his neck feels so perfect under your hands. Like it was always meant to be there.
"Wanna bite?" He mouths, somehow smirking at you before his mouth drops into an "O" â youâre grinding against him, hard and careless of his overstimulation.
Those pretty blue irises shrink and dilate wide, shimmering with tears. His face is so pale, lashes such a pretty white that the red on his cheeks stands out all the more painfully. A moan of pleasure ripples under your fingertips, squandered in your grasp.
God, he really is a whore, isnât he? So eager in front of you, dick out, lashes fluttering, throwing himself at you. Teasing you with his scent, his little gifts. Letting you see him like this. How could he let you see him like this, if he didnât want to be yours?
Would he be so pathetic and needy for anyone? It sends rage through you, white-hot and yearning. All you can see is him, him, Gojo in all his debauched glory beneath you.
Ruin him. Ruin him for anyone else. Yours, yours, all yours. So much that he can never think of anyone else, like you can only think of him.
You squeeze harder, like you can pull his treacherous, perfect voice out if you can just press hard enough into his singing pulse. Close, close, so fucking close, the pull inside you draws you over his cock, up and down, rubbing against your throbbing clit.
His cock twitches in time with it as you grind away. Blood rushing in your ears, pounding. Youâre close. Heâs close. Heâs going to cum. Heâs going to cum outside of you.
Just as Gojoâs eyes squeeze shut, his cock jumping against you â you pull your cunt off, leaving no more stimulation. You donât release your hold on his throat, hips guided purely by instinct, slotting him against your entrance.
âDonât you dare,â You hiss, feeling his pulse flutter, âYou donât cum unless youâre inside me. Never.â
Eyes shooting wide to look up at you. His lips part, desperate, passionate, heavy with words that he doesnât have the air for.
You donât want to hear it. Heâs said enough.
You ride him like you hate him - to be fair, you kind of do.
Slamming down on his dick, just short of his knot. Hunched over him so you can still choke him while you fuck him, see his stupid face contort in shock and bliss as his cock is suddenly enveloped.
His sweet-sour scent practically stings your tongue, heavy with arousal, with lust, with want â
He fills you up so fucking good, heâs infuriating, heâs huge, heâs perfect and why isnât he yours? Everything inside you screams and all you know is the stretch in your core, the burning need.
So close so close you're almost THERE â
Panting, gasping, you bear yourself down on his knot with a wail, squeezing his neck like a stress toy. It makes him pulse and throb inside you.
Fuck fuck FUCK -
The STRETCH, it fucking burns, Gojo is writhing underneath you. It's like he's bigger than he was last time.
His hands arenât at his throat but on your hips, pulling you impossibly closer, adding to all the weight that pulls you against him. Tight, hot, so, so fucking big.
âMy knot,â You pant, half-feral with desire, âThis is my fucking knot, Gojo, my dick, you don't put this in anyone else, do you hear me, ALPHA?"
Thereâs a rumble in his neck where he might be trying to answer you, but you ignore it in favor of bearing down on him. It's like all your breath leaves you in one big gasp, a whine escaping you as you finally pop the knot in.
You squeeze yourself, impossible, tight, feeling your whole cunt scream with the effort, the delicious stretch of a muscle pushed to its limit. You have him, you have him, you have him in you, all yours. Your core finally surges towards release at the feeling of being filled.
And then you look down at what youâve captured, your alpha, teary-eyed, red-faced, eyes glazed over in bliss as his lips part to take a breath he canât manage.
Cock burning inside you, hips bucking up, hands clutching you like a lifeline. Hands so uselessly large that his thumb can reach to roll over your clit.
All at once, you let go. Climax overwhelming you both, his first gasping breath painted with the sudden release.
You want to see his face while you do it, collapsing forward as your breath is stolen from you in waves of white-hot pleasure. Gojo lets out a high pitched noise that he probably shouldnât be capable of, choking, crying.
âF-fuck,â He half-chokes, half-sobs, racing to clutch you to his chest.
Youâve never seen him so uncomposed, so helpless, your name on his lips, the six eyes blown wide and unseeing. Heat floods your insides as he releases, knot swelling impossibly larger. A squeak escapes you, and you press the side of your face into his toned chest as he holds you close.
Youâre smaller than him â most people would be. Itâs funny, feeling smaller in his arms. All the fight and fervor trickles away, slowly, like itâs making room for his cum.
Something terribly dark and feral inside you wants to rut against him and make him whimper more, now that he could hear it, but you donât have the strength.
âSurprised you didnât bite me,â He muses while he traces mindless patterns over your bare back.
âFor what conceivable reason would I have bitten you during that?â His chest is warm, so warm. Youâre not paying much attention to what youâre saying, just lazily snapping back at him for stating the obvious. âIn case you hadnât noticed, I literally choked you.â
âHell yeah you did.â He rubs his cheek against your hair. âIt was super hot. Do it again.â
Idiot. You try to ignore the hunger his words ignite inside you, the stupid glee you get from the thought that he likes it just as much as you do. âWhat, do you want me to bite you?â
âAs hot as it would have been to see you take what you want,â God, his grin is just so annoying, and it makes your heart skip a beat, to see that fire in his eyes, âYouâd probably feel all bad about it later or some crap. Like you trapped me or something. Which would be super hot, by the way. You have my permission to trap me at any time, especially if Iâm sticking my dick in you.â
âWell, now I donât want you at all,â You lie, blatantly, like a liar.
Satoru snickers, which really isnât good for your heart. âWhat, because Iâm such a kinky whore, you think Iâve been all used up already? Should I give myself some bruises and hickey sometime to really sell the fantasy?â
That gets an eye roll. âI didnât degrade you enough while we were fucking, is that it? Had to pick up some slack yourself?â
âHeheh. You sure liked calling me a whore and a slut.â He wiggles his eyebrows at you, âWhat can I say, Iâm just that good a lay. Always give the lady what she wants.â
âSure.â And yet you still donât have what you want from him.
âYouâre the only person Iâve fucked like this, you know.â He says, more softly than he should.
Itâs just so unfair. How he makes your heart stumble. How his little admission sends a trill of hope through you.
âFucked how? During your rut?â He didnât seem like the type to grin and bear the suffering.
âYou know,â He shuffles again, âLike this. For fun.â
âWhat, Iâm the only person youâve let call you a whore? Choke you? Be more specific, Gojo,â The name tastes bitter in your mouth, âAll the other times you just had to lie back and think of England?â
âWell, youâre the first person whoâs fucked me that also called me Gojo, for one.â
He really has to ruin everything. âJust shut up. Nothing you say makes me feel better.â
Arms wrap tighter around your waist. âI mean it, though. I was looking forward to this. I never look forward to it. Letting down my technique, fucking some omega until I knotted them.â
You want to bite him, take a chunk out. Pull his hair and rip some of it out of his stupid empty skull. âGojo ââ
âNo, listen.â And thatâs a tone you havenât heard before â low, commanding, an alphaâs demand. He hadnât spoken to you like that once.
âI used to hate it, dread it. The long wait for my knot to go down before I could finally just leave and put everything back up again. Being stuck with some stranger in such an intimate position, feeling them touch me, it was the worst. The absolute fucking worst.â
He nuzzles his head into your neck, like heâs basking in your scent. âThis, though? This is the best. I want to do this for every rut, forever.â
Another skipped beat, and thatâs it. Your foolish, graceless heart can only drag you through so much humiliation and pining before you rip it out and stomp on it yourself.
âSo what?â You lower your voice in return, hard and cutting, âWho says I want to spend all your ruts with you, Gojo?â
âThought you didnât do one-night stands.â He smirks at you. You want to punch him.
âWhat did you think this was?â Did he think you were pining for a relationship while he was just fucking it out? Sure, you were pathetic enough to want it, but you werenât pathetic enough to expect it. Not on your fucking life.
But then.
Thereâs the answer, the âA public service for needy omegas~â or some other witty retort. You can already hear his voice ringing in your ears, playful and taunting.
But the sound doesnât come. Nothing comes at all. Complete silence.
Gojoâs lean, muscled form has stiffened, now rigid against you where it had been relaxed. You can feel his hesitance rippling through the air. His scent is more sour than sweet. Spoiled.
âI thought⊠you wanted me.â Youâve never heard him sound so uncertain, so afraid. Youâve never heard Gojo sound afraid, period. âI was courting you, and you accepted my gifts, so I â â
âWhen were you courting me?â You snap, even though you make the connection instantly. He had given you gifts. Heâd spend time with you, given you something with his scent. Paid attention to your needs.
âThis whole time?â He sounds like heâs starting to panic, now, âWhat did you think was happening? Weâve been flirting literally since the day I met you! I might not be the most traditional guy, but I got the important parts down!â
It doesnât sound real, for Gojo to be freaking out like this. He turns you around so you can see his blue eyes, wide and wild with frustration, âWhy did you think I gave you things with my scent and spent every spare hour in close quarters with you?â
âBecause they were always accompanied with snarky remarks? Because you taunt me at every opportunity?â You say it straight to his face. âWe literally insult each other every time we meet.â
âYou like it, you tease me back!â He grouses, âYouâre super into that, you fucked me anyways!â
âYeah. I thought that was all you wanted.â You swallow. âYouâre supposed to ask someone to court them, Gojo.â
âOf course you wanted me to court you. You seduced me when I pinned you down and then knocked me on my ass!â
Youâre upset with him and all, but heâs just got this infuriating ability to make you laugh no matter what. âMost people would take that as a no.â
Heâs smiling back. Beaming. His scent is clean, like just hearing you laugh made it all better, âBut your answer isnât a no. You li~ke~ me.â
âNot so much right now.â You look away. âSo, what? Iâm just a fool for not knowing what you wanted, when you never even told me?â
âI thought it was obvious.â You can hear the frown in his voice. âYouâre a pretty proud person. What did you think I was doing when I gave you all those gifts?â
âYou literally told me I was being needy. I figured you were mocking me.â
âBut then why did you accept them?â His tone, laced with something awful in his scent, brings your gaze back to his face.
He looks kind of⊠heartbroken.
You canât look at him long. âBecause⊠I am needy.â
His arms reach up from your waist, cradling your back, pulling you against him. Chin tucked where your shoulder meets your neck. Face buried in your scent glands, just where heâd put a bite. If he â if he wanted you.
âWhen you finally admitted it, I thought Iâd feel glad.â He sounds like heâs complaining, but your neck is wet. âYou just have to steal away all my victories, huh? Canât even let me win this one.â
Why is he acting so pathetic, like a wounded puppy, when youâre the one who admitted to being down so bad youâd accept even mockery from the person you wanted to get with?
And then he sniffles, like some teenage girl who just got dumped. âI thought you knew I liked you. I thought we were having fun. Teasing each other.â
âIt was fun, thatâs why I did it. I justâŠâ You swallow. âI didnât think it would mean anything more for you. You know by now that I â I like you a lot. Way more than normal. There is nothing normal about how much I want you. I didnât think you wanted me the same way.â
âThatâs literally the worst thing Iâve ever heard. You didnât know I wanted you back?â Thereâs more wetness on your neck, but this is warm. The familiar touch of his tongue dragging over your scent glands.
Gojo takes a shuddering breath, and it occurs to you that he must be taking in your scent. âHow could you even think that?â
âWhy are you so upset?â His whining brings you back to life, just a little. Enough to be angry. âFor â for fuckâs sake already, Gojo. Say it in as many words. I told you, the whole reason I thought so was because you never told me what you meant outright.â
Another sniffle. âYouâre so mean. You know what courting is. You just like bullying me.â
His sniveling revitalizes you further. Itâs easier, knowing he can be pitiful for you, too. âSay it, Gojo, or youâll be just another notch in my belt.â
âAnd call me Satoru! How are we supposed to date if you donât even call me by name?!â
âWeâre not dating. Say it, say it right now,â Youâre getting sick of his crap, âOr I will rip your dick off.â
You can hear it, again. Is that a promise? Just wait until Iâm hard to do it.
And you can see it, actually, how it physically pains him not to say it.
Gojo says your full name, out loud, and youâre helpless at the sound. âI have romantic feelings for you. I would like to court you with the intention of marriage. Mating. Whatever.â
He just canât let you win one, can he? And yet, youâve never heard a better sound. It feels like a massive burden has been lifted from your shoulders. Your chest.
âTwo full sentences of formality,â You muse, âImpressive.â
âRight?â He preens, âLots of things about me are impressive. Youâll see while weâre courting.â
âYou never fail to impress me with how much of a dumbass you can be, Gojo.â
âSatoru. And thatâs not a yes. Hurry up and say yes! I know you wanted to bite me back there, youâre totally crappy at hiding it.â
You sigh. âI did. But you didnât want to bite me, did you?â
A pause. Youâre suddenly uncomfortably aware of how close his face is to your neck.
âI always want to bite you. Ever since I met you. Smelled you.â His tongue runs along your throat, so hot it almost feels like it burns. âYou canât tell because youâve never seen a version of me that doesnât want to sink my teeth into your neck.â
You swallow, and he purrs, kissing over your pulse.
âItâs okay, though. I can be generous.â And his voice is back to being annoying again. âEven when youâre so demanding. I can only jerk off to you, I can only stick my dick in you â gosh, you said not to cum unless I was inside you, right? You really signed yourself up for â â
âOh, fuck off, Gojo â â You interrupt yourself, â â Satoru. Are you sure you want to⊠I mean. Iâm older than you, you know? By a lot. I donât have some kind of pedigree, and â well, I mean. You know.â
You flush despite yourself, âIâm⊠demanding, I guess. I like to bully you, if you want put it that way.â He laughs. âIâm sure you have better prospects.â Â
âYeah,â A hand reaches up to stroke your hair. He pulls you so your face is pressed into his chest, so you can hear him purr for you. Loudly, now. âThatâs why Iâm courting you, first. Until youâre sure youâre my best prospect. Then Iâll mark you. Then you can mark me, and not even feel a little bit bad about it, after.â
Itâs scary, you think, as the darkness creeps into your vision â just how accurate his prediction of you was. âYou donât think Iâm⊠too needy?â
âI love that youâre too needy.â A kiss to the top of your head, âYou look at me like Iâm the thing you want the most you want in the whole world. Makes me crazy, how much you want me. I want you to bite me. Eat me whole. I want to open up my chest and shove you inside.â
A breath leaves you, mostly because heâs holding you too tightly. Just tight enough. âSo you like that Iâm obsessed with you. But do you like me?â
âYeah,â He sighs, rubbing his cheek into your hair affectionately, âSo much itâs kind of scary. Youâre all I can think about most of the time. I would look forward to slipping you a little present all day. Then Iâd get hard after watching you open it, and Iâd have to rub one out. You have no idea how happy it makes me, just being near you.â
Youâre quiet for a bit. All you can hear is his gentle purring, rumbling through his body and yours.
One of your hands finds one of his. ââŠyouâll be mine? My one and only? You wonât ever want anyone else?â
He squeezes. âJust you. You should be more worried about becoming my one and only. If I canât jerk off or fuck anyone else, thatâs all gonna be on you, baby.â
âIâm not particularly worried,â You yawn, âIf you get to be too much, Iâll just choke you out again or something.â
You feel him start to twitch inside you, knot still stuck in your entrance â no way. He canât be hard this soon, not when he hasnât even finished â
âHehe. Shouldnât have said that unless you wanted to go again~!â
âSatoru!!â

Not crazy about people writing off the Titan submersible incident as some schadenfreudic buzzstory they can rag on for a handful of internet funny points. I get the frustration, I really do. At least three of the passengers had to shell out $250,000 a ticket for a glorified deep sea Disney ride. The CEO of OceanGate is a capitalist wackjob who has been complaining about and bypassing safety regulations for years, despite multiple warnings, and now the retrieval is taking up time and resources from multiple countries that could have been put to better use. But one of the crew members on board was also the nineteen year old son of another passenger. I doubt his involvement extended much beyond âIâm going on a fun trip with my dad.â Another was an unaffiliated researcher who joined the expedition to collect environmental samples for DNA analysis. Not everyone on board was a high-rolling corporate yuppie. (And even if they were, itâs still a pretty objectively horrific way to die.) Instead of memes, Iâd rather see this prompt a discussion on the ethics and potential regulation of scientific tourism.
The above also doesnât change the fact that this is dragging media attention away from more pressing issues, such as the sinking of the Andriana. I guess âTHE TITANIC CLAIMS ANOTHER FIVE VICTIMSâ is a more colorful headline than âthe EUâs xenophobic migration policies have led to the deaths of hundreds of migrants seeking asylum in Italy, and an active cover up is now taking place, headed by Greek authorities.â Seeing all this energy be funneled towards dragging this tiny capsule out of the Atlantic when up to five hundred refugees - mostly women and children - were locked in the hull of a ship and left to suffer the exact same fate, while Coast Guard vessels looked on and did nothing (or even had an active role in the capsize after a botched attempt to tow it, according to some testimonies), illustrates the sway money and race have in what we pay attention to. Itâs a gruesome example of inequity in action.
I had compared what happened to the Titan to the Kursk incident, but the Andriana doesnât have the luxury of being a freak accident. Over 25,000 migrants have disappeared or drowned trying to cross the Mediterranean since 2014, with over 2,000 deaths taking place in 2022 alone. Those are staggering numbers. Protests have broken out across Greece over the past week in the wake of the tragedy, advocating for migration reform.
While these sorts of mass casualty events tend to leave us feeling disheartened and helpless, there are ways to help. Below is a link to SOS Humanityâs donation page. Reputable search and rescue organizations such as SOS Humanity or SOS MediterranĂ©e built their mission statements around helping migrants like the ones on board the Andriana. Donate if you can, spread the word if you canât.

too far ~ jschlatt
word count: 2231
request?: no
description: in which he takes his dickishness a little too far
pairing: jschlatt x female!reader
warnings: swearing, rpf, angst, use of y/n, schlatt being a dick, insecurities and self...issues (?),
masterlist (one, two, three)
*i read a fic with this premise like a week or two ago but i cannot for the life of me find it anymore and i needed some mean schlatt angst turned fluff so i am writing my own version. if you are the original author this one goes out to you i will tag you if i can find you*
Everyone who knew Schlatt knew that he was sometimes "mean". It was never serious, it was all just meant to be teasing. For the most part, the worst of it went to Minx who was able to match his energy without it ever affecting her. Everyone else just got a few comments every now and then, but never anything incredibly rude.
Until it suddenly got directed all on you.
You had known Schlatt for some time, having met him through his online friend group while gaming one night. You had become acquainted quickly and you found yourself being excited whenever you knew you'd be playing or recording with him. It seemed like he felt the same way, or at least he was friendly and civil. That was until one recording when you were excitedly talking about something, he suddenly piped up to say, "Jesus, do you ever shut the fuck up?"
Everyone was laughing, so you figured it was just a joke, but it took you by surprise. You knew Schlatt was blunt, but it seemed completely out of nowhere when no one else seemed to mind your babble. You chuckled along with everyone, but you found yourself falling silent for the rest of the recording. Some of the others would include you in the conversation, but you only gave short answers.
After that, it seemed like Schlatt would be picking on you more and more. He rarely had anything nice to say to or about you. It became harder and harder to want to do recordings or streams when he was acting like that, and your mutual friends were starting to notice his continued bullying. It made everyone feel uncomfortable, even if he kept insisting it was just jokes.
It all came to a head when you were asked to do one of those "dating shows" on YouTube. It was you, Minx, Emma, and Jaiden, and Schlatt, Ted, Tanner, and Connor, with Jack hosting it. You weren't sure what the rules were or how the game was supposed to go down, but you loved watching the hilarity of other online "dating shows", and couldn't wait to be a part of it. You were a little weary of Schlatt's presence, but there were so many people involved that you figured you wouldn't get the brunt of his insults today.
Jack sent you the link for the Zoom call. You were one of the last people to join the call, so you were immediately met with a cacophony of overlapping voices. You chuckled to yourself at the familiar chaos. You adjusted your volume settings and positioned your webcam before turning it on.
A high pitched scream brought the conversations to a halt.
"What the fuck was that?" Jack said with a laugh.
"I think it was Schlatt," Ted said.
"Yeah it was me. Sorry, I just saw a jumpscare," Schlatt responded.
"What the fuck are you on about?" Minx asked.
"I saw (Y/N)'s ugly mug suddenly join the call and it scared me."
Everyone was silent. Your face burned and tears started to form in your eyes. Your body moved before your brain could register, your hand moving your mouse to click the "End Call" button. The moment everyone's faces disappeared, you allowed yourself to cry.
For all the hurtful stuff Schlatt had said, he had never gone after your appearance. It was one of your biggest insecurities because you felt like you didn't measure up to other female streamers. Sure, that was a cliche insecurity, but it was your truth. You marveled at how pretty all your friends were and would often mentally compare yourself to them. It wasn't something you had spoken publicly about, so obviously Schlatt didn't know he would touch a nerve, but it still felt like an extremely low blow. Especially for it to be the first thing you heard when you turned your camera on.
You sent Jack a message to apologize for leaving, but you told him you didn't feel up to doing the show anymore. He responded almost immediately to let you know that it was okay and he didn't blame you for your decision. You were shutting down your set up when your Discord started ringing; a voice call from Ted.
"Aren't you supposed to be recording?" you asked, trying to keep your voice even.
"We're taking a quick break while Jack decides if he wants Schlatt to compete anymore," Ted explained.
"Don't kick him off just because of me," you said.
"We don't really want him to play after what he said. It was incredibly fucked up and uncalled for."
"He's said worse to Minx."
"Yeah, but he and Minx have an understanding. We've all noticed that he makes fun of you, but you don't respond the way Minx does. I don't know what his problem is recently, but you don't deserve those insults. You're an incredibly kind person, unlike us assholes."
You chuckled through your tears. "You're not an asshole, Ted."
"I am sometimes, don't lie."
"Only a little bit." You wiped the fresh tears from your eyes and let out a shaky sigh. "I don't want to record with Schlatt anymore."
"I understand," Ted said. "I'll let everyone know, too."
"Thank you."
When you and Ted hung up, you sat back in your chair and took a deep breath. The sting from Schlatt's words was still strong, but you also felt some relief in having talking to Ted about it and him assuring you that you wouldn't have to record with Schlatt anymore. It still upset you that Schlatt made such a 180 when it seemed like you were both getting along so well, but you weren't going to wast anymore brain space on him.
Your phone buzzed from a Discord notification. You looked down at the screen to see Schlatt was trying to send you a message. Instead of reading it, you went to his Discord profile and blocked him.
~~~~~~
It was easier than you thought to forget about Schlatt and his insults. All your friends did as you asked didn't invite you to recordings if Schlatt was a part of them, or vice versa with him. You went on to block him on all social media, and even muting his channels on YouTube so you wouldn't risk seeing him in your recommended. It was like he never existed, and you didn't even care.
You were in the middle of editing a video when a knock came at your door. You assumed it was the Uber Eats you had ordered, so you saved your progress and got up to answer. Instead of finding a delivery guy, you came face to face with the man you had been avoiding for weeks.
"What are you doing here?" you asked. "Wait, better question, how do you know where I live?"
"I bothered Ted until he told me," Schlatt responded.
You rolled your eyes. "Ted's dead to me."
You went to close the door, but Schlatt's hand shot out to block the door. You scowled at him. "Take the hint, Schlatt. I don't want to see you."
"I know you don't, and I get why, but please let me explain and apologize."
"I don't want to hear what you have to say. Honestly, you don't even deserve to take up my time to try and give some shitty explanation for your shitty behavior."
"I know - "
"You really hurt me," you cut him off. "I took the insults in silence because I knew you poked fun at everyone, but they really hurt me. It got to a point where I was dreading having to interact with you every time someone invited to a Discord call and I saw that you were in there too."
"(Y/N) - "
"And then you called me ugly in a call in front of everyone and that hurt the most. I know it shouldn't have given how much else you've said to me, but my looks are one of my biggest insecurities, and I know you probably didn't know that but still, going after how I look was such a low blow. And it hurts so much because I thought we were friends, but suddenly you're insulting me and bullying me at every chance you get, and it almost felt worse than the way you act with Minx so how am I supposed to take it as anything other than you not liking me and - "
Your rambling was finally cut off by Schlatt taking hold of your face and pulling you into him. You were shocked when you felt his lips against yours. Your initial reaction was to pull away and to start yelling at him again, but suddenly your brain switched to tell you lean into it. So you did. You pressed into Schlatt as much as you could; your body against his, your hands on his hoodie, standing on your toes so you could reach him.
Also to your surprise, Schlatt was the one to pull away first. He rested his forehead against yours, keeping his face inches apart from yours.
"That was one way to get me to stop talking," you joked.
He smiled. "Seemed to be the most effective way."
"So, are you about to tell me the reason you were being mean to me is because you liked me? Because if so, that is a very elementary school explanation."
"Unfortunately, that is the reason."
You pulled away from Schlatt and finally gestured for him to come in. You realized you had been standing in the doorway this whole time, and now that you had somewhat calmed down, you figured you'd listen to his explanation. You were much more intrigued now after your kiss, although you were far from completely forgiving him for what had happened.
You led Schlatt to your living room and you both sat down on the couch. You were very much aware of how close you two were sat. His body was inches away from yours. You could be touching him again if you wanted to.
"I was trying to push you away," he said, bringing you back to the topic at hand. "I was afraid you wouldn't like me back, and it felt easier to make you hate me than to risk that rejection."
"No offense, but that's a really stupid idea."
He chuckled. "Yeah, no offense taken because you're right. I should've just talked to you about it like an adult instead of assuming you would've rejected me. I thought the easier route would be to make you hate me, but then that succeeded and I realized how much I missed getting to talk to you. Not to sound too corny or anything, but everything felt empty when you weren't around. I knew I fucked up majorly, and I tried to apologize that night after what happened, but you blocked me on everything and I realized just how far I had actually gone."
You thought back to the call you had with Ted that day when everything had come to a head with Schlatt. "Did you not tell Ted how you felt?"
"Not until I begged him for your address. Listen, I love Ted and all, but the dude has a big fuckin' mouth. He would've let it slip one way or another how I feel about you, and I didn't want that. Actually, no one knew. I kept it to myself completely."
"You're an idiot. You know that, right?"
He nodded. "I'm more than well aware, yes."
"And you know it's going to take more than just kissing me and apologizing to completely redeem yourself? I understand why you acted the way you did, as stupid as it was, but it still really hurt me. I'm not going to forget everything just because you were being stupid."
"I don't expect you to. All I wanted was to explain myself and hope that you'd give me a second chance. I'm serious, (Y/N), I don't think I can just not have you in my life. If you don't want to date, that's fine. I'm okay with something platonic, as long as I have you."
You smiled and finally dared to reach out and touch him. You took his hand in yours, running your thumb over his knuckles. You then dared to lean forward and capture his mouth with yours in a quick, gentle kiss. When you pulled away, Schlatt had a smile on his face. You mirrored it with a smile of your own.
"You'll have to work for forgiveness," you told him. "You can start by taking me out on a date."
"Done," he said. "Right now?"
You giggled. "Maybe tomorrow. I was actually in the middle of editing a video when you came, and I have Uber Eats on the way."
As if on cue, there was a knock at your door.
"That would be it."
"Can I stay and hang out while you edit?" Schlatt asked.
"Of course. But I'm not sharing my food with you."
"Oh, you have no choice. You invited me in and let me stay, therefore you're sharing your food."
"You know what? Go fuck yourself, I take back everything I said."
You exclaimed and giggled as he suddenly grabbed you and pulled you to him. "Too late! No take backs! You're stuck with me for a very long time, toots."
finding you again, part two
Azriel x f!Reader
Azriel barely remembered making it to the healing tent.Â
It mustâve been a hallucination, surely you wouldnât have healed him. Youâd call for someone else to do it.Â
âStay safe spymaster,â youâd said with that wicked smirk on your face, âand do it far away from me, wonât you?âÂ
Heâd let you get the last word in. Maybe because it pleased you, maybe because he was too caught up staring at you.Â
Still, the features heâd tried to memorize those months ago loomed over him, pretty eyes glimmering with worry.Â
âCome on, Azriel,â you half-snarled. âIâll be pissed if you donât make it.âÂ
âYou have horrible bedside manner,â the words rasped from his throat.
âGet some water,â he didnât know who you called, but he both heard and felt the pure relief in your voice. Next thing, you were tipping his chin, fingers cold against his skin, cool water sliding down his throat.Â
âHeâll be fine,â you said, withdrawing as quickly as possible. Azrielâs vision was still swarming, but Cassian helped him sit. He caught sight of your back, ducking under the tent flap, back out towards the carnage.Â
-
Madja was busy, and you hadnât hesitated when your High Lordâs voice slipped into your mind, ordering you to a specific tent. Your stomach had dropped when you saw him. Not because of the gore, because it was Azriel, knocking on death's door hovering right on the brink of an unconsciousness that would put him in a coma. Perhaps not your neatest work, but he would survive.
Rhysand was probably aware of your shared history, and it made you even more surprised he let you near him.Â
You shook the thought of him, of the Inner Circle, from your mind and faced the hoards of injured and dying again, scanning for the most critically injured. There was plenty of work to do.Â
Pace yourself, you remembered Madjaâs teachings on battlefield healing, and your own experience. Ration your magic, use only whatâs necessary. Theyâll survive a scar.
Time had no meaning as you worked, hours passed with countless patients, the sun fell and rose, and you could barely stand on your own two feet.Â
âTake a rest,â a familiar voice, and a hand squeezing your shoulder.Â
You shook it off. âThereâs more to do.âÂ
âYou canât help anyone if you pass out,â he said mildly.Â
Pivoting to face him, your face tightened. âAnd people will die if I canât help them.âÂ
If you had more energy, you wouldâve squirmed under his scrutiny. âAt least eat something.âÂ
âFine,â you spit out, and headed to the tent the healers stayed in, on the outskirts of camp, hoping he wouldnât follow. Â
He had, of course, as you emerged with an apple between your teeth, a few strips of dried meat in a recently cleaned hand, he was standing outside. Somehow, the area was regretfully empty.Â
âI donât need a minder,â you told him. âGo rest.âÂ
âHypocritical.âÂ
âYouâll ruin my hard work.âÂ
His eyes flashed. Amusement or ire, you reminded yourself not to care, reminded yourself again as he left without a look back. He was getting in your head again. If you survived this war, if your world survived it, youâd flee far far away.Â
-
It was dark, he should be sleeping, but instead he slid through the shadows, searching through the camp for ⊠for you. His shadows told him everything, but he felt the need to set his eyes on you, like if he looked away for too long youâd disappear.Â
âYou canât stay?â you asked. His eyes scanned you, white sheet barely covering the top of your breasts, the slight look of disappointment on his face. Azriel needed to be up early, and he knew if he spent another minute here, heâd be late and have too many questions to answer.Â
Instead, he kissed your forehead, âanother time,â he promised, unsure if he could actually keep it, and slipped out the door.Â
The memory came to him out of nowhere, the desire to go back and change that moment strong and unexpected. He forced it from his mind, there was no going back, and youâd made that perfectly clear.Â
As soon as heâd caught a glimpse of you, he retreated to make an effort to get some sleep - itâs what youâd want him to do.Â
-
You moved with the armies, went where you were ordered, healed whoever needed healing, and most of all - kept your head down.
Maybe a few days, maybe a week had passed, but when Azriel appeared, one hand pulling the tent flap back, you didnât have the energy to rebuke him.Â
An exhausted wave of your hand, you let him in, and turned to pile over the notes in front of you. Letters bent and blended, and the heavy blinks to try and return them to legible words failed.Â
Footsteps, loud enough to make sure you were aware of his position, slowing as they reached. Twisting barely over your shoulder, his thumb pressed against your chin, turning you forwards, to gaze at his shadow cast against the tent wall - now encompassing your own.Â
Featherlight brushes against the skin of your neck, goosebumps down your spine, rough thumbs run circles in all of your trigger points. Decades ago, heâd done this nearly every time you met, always without asking, and somehow still knew all of the right places.
A low moan escaped slightly parted lips as he dug into where your shoulder and neck met. The fingers paused, but gods the exhaustion mustâve been truly driving you out of your mind, because you covered his hand with your own, encouraging him to resume.Â
A low chuckle, and he did.
The next hours were something of a fever dream. Your bed was hardly large enough for two - especially for a pair of wings, but you managed to lay side by side, both fully clothed. Occasionally, his hand would bump into yours, and vice versa.Â
The only noise inside the tent was your steady breaths, the two of you finding solace in the silence of each other's company. In that silence, you convinced yourself it was a dream, or a ridiculous hallucination.Â
But, when you woke in the morning - alone, the usual tightness in your neck was missing, and familiar hints of cedar and night chilled mist filled the space. You were well aware he owed you nothing, but waking alone, not even a note, left you feeling used - you scoffed at the word - heâd given you a massage after all, if anything you were the one using him.Â
 Whatever game he was playing with you, you wanted no part of it. Even if it wasnât a game, even if he was just searching for some comfort during the chaos, it wasnât you. He could find another source. The night only tightened your resolve to stay away from him.Â
You were not called to heal him, nor any other members of the Inner Circle, again - to your relief. Just once, you saw him in passing, and averted your gaze, melted into the crowd before you could be noticed.Â
The war ended, and you heard the stories of sacrifice, of the loss and gain of life, and thanked the mother with each one, but all you had eyes for was the rows and rows of males and females in varying shades of misery front of you.Â
-
âMadja,â you called just loud enough to catch the healer's attention. She held up her hand in acknowledgement. The moments dragged as you watched her movements, the careful and measured expenditure of her magic, the efficient bandaging and applying of herbs.
As soon as sheâd finished, she met your eyes. As always, her gaze stripped you bare and you wondered what she saw, before deciding you didnât want to know. Her chin jerked towards the water basin, and you dutifully followed. Youâd received her summons just minutes ago.Â
âBack by the border,â she started - the location of the last battle, you noted, âthereâs a medical camp in need of a seasoned healer. Although we can hardly spare you,â she sighed, âthey asked and their need, believe it or not, is equal if not greater than ours.âÂ
âThe ratio?â You asked, steeling yourself.Â
âAbout fifty,â she gave you a look that said she didnât envy you.Â
âThen I better get going,â your mouth curved at the corners. After all, there was nothing keeping you here.Â
You were fresh off a few hours of mandated rest and a good meal, and knew you had enough energy to winnow and get to work as soon as you arrived. It took mere minutes to pack the few things you brought, to tuck whatever supplies Madja could spare into a pocket space. You didnât give yourself time to evaluate the weight that left your chest as you departed.Â
-
When the chaos and politics surrounding the final battle ebbed, he looked for you. His shadows searched every inch of the blood soaked ground, tent, hidden crevice, but you were gone. Swallowing pride, he asked Madja, who only said you were dispatched elsewhere, and fixed him with a quizzing look. His eyes cool and face an unreadable mask of stone, he let his shoulders rise and drop slightly.Â
âI only wish to thank her.âÂ
Madja huffed, head shaking and turned away. It didnât matter whether or not the healer believed his half-truth.Â
Azriel had spared what time he could for you, and banished you to a back corner of his mind, tucked away with the other memories that ached an old part of him. Shadow cooling his neck, a slow exhale, and he focused back to the present, back on his priorities. He needed to keep you where you belonged, in his past.
Part 1 / Part 2
Emmet remembers when he and Ingo first brought Elesa to explore Celestial Tower, back when they were fourteen and thought they were immortal.
âAllegedly, the bell chime will bring ghosts homeâ, ingo had told emmet with the pompous knowing energy of a child who read way too much brochures. âItâs culturally significant! We must ring it.â
âHmmm,â emmet had responded suspiciously. âBrother. The bell is at the top of the tower.â The implication stands: Ingo, there are thirty flights of stairs between here and the top, and no elevator to speak of.
Donât be a coward, Litwick had told Emmet with the blaise tone of somebody whoâs going to be piggy backing off of somebody else. Go ring the bell. Tynamo, sensing a litten fight, floated towards a loitering blitzle.
Ingo turns his lilipup eyes on Elesa, whoâs squinting at the carved stone faces of the front door.
âElesa? What do you think?â
Elesa thinks. She shrugs. âWe already made our way here,â she said in accented galarian. âMight as well make it the rest of the way. Ganbatte!â
Emmet sighs. âThis is a mistake,â he tells the two in exhaustive patience, but lets himself be dragged into the building.
Last time the twins were here, Ingo caught litwickâ but not before she managed to nab a good chunk of Emmetâs soul. Itâs not terrible; he felt fatigued for a week and bounced back pretty quickly, but it was the principle of the whole situationâ celestial towerâs a pain in the ass and Emmet will stand by that until the day he dies.
Like right now.
The map isnât working. Emmet checked it once. Heâs checked it twice. Heâs taken out his pen and written on it, which he would usually never do but desperate times call for desperate measures. The compass he brought spins useless circles. Itâs like chargestone cave up here, but worse because instead if electric pokemon itâs all ghosts.
âWeâre lost, yyup yup!â He announced to the crew. âI vote we eat Ingo first.â
âI love you too,â Ingo told Emmet placidly. âBut we all know between the two of us, youâre the tastier one.â Litwick gives Emmet a thumbs up. Emmet gasps in mock affront.
âElesa, help!â
Elesa gives the two of them a wary look. It took two floors for her to realize this is not just a weird temple with strange rocks, but a full out graveyard. Sheâs not very happy about that development.
âDonât drag me into this,â she tells them. âTeme wa urusaii.â
âI will take that as a compliment,â Ingo reports back.
Emmet, whoâs cheerfully struggles with Galarian on a good day, simply gives her a thumbs up.
The three painstakingly crawl their way up. And up. If all else fails, Emmet told himself, at least they can orient themselves towards high ground.
âWeâre like pidoves,â Ingo gasps. He has fallen behind them on the stairs, with Emmet taking the lead through sheer spite despite his legs going numb on floor twenty two. âWe, hah, we are attracted by the magnet of the bell, like, like probopass-â
âI am emmet! You are not making, sense!â Emmet called back. Elesa, whoâs stuck between them and looking two steps from perpetual collapse, giggles.
âNo, no hear me out, Ingo wheezes. âWhat if the bellâs a magnetic pole? And thatâs why your compass doesnât wo, woo, hahh, work.â
Emmet stops to rest, just because Ingo is using precious breathing air to infodump. Elesa gratefully slumps against the railing. Tynamo and litwick, lazy in their still small size, have settled on a weary blitzle and look very smug doing so. (Emmet is not jealous, he tells himself. Emmet is also lying.)
âThe bellâs important,â Ingo had repeated.
âOkay,â Elesa responds. âIf itâs important to you, then itâs important to us.â
And Emmet finds that he agrees with Elesa. Partially because they crawled up twenty fucking three flights of stairs, but also because Ingo thinks this is important, so it is.
And hereâs the thingâ
â emmet doesnât remember much after that.
The rest of that trip was a blur of exhausted groaning and burning legs, and by the time the trio managed to breach floor thirty, peopleâs brains have all but dribbled out their ears. Emmet remembers being disgustingly sweaty. He remembers blitzle almost tripping to death and litwickâs swearing. He remembers tynamo sticking to his neck like a damp towel. He remembers Ingoâs excited sneasel smile, and the way the sunset bounced off of Elesaâs hair.
He remembers the brassy ring of the Celestial bell. It sounded like victory.
But it was Elesaâs cackle turned scream as Ingo swiped cold hands down her neck that sounded like home.
â-
So when the conductor at thirty one, lost and disoriented in the Impossible Place, heard the sound of a familiar bell, ringing over and over and over-
-the sound of laughter-
-EMMET! Elesa cried-
-like a homing pidove, the conductor, thinks nonsensically as something in him perks up.
(Emmet had always liked winning, more than anything else, and the sound of victory calls him home.)
â
Elesa catches lightning in a bottle. Elesa, arms outstretched, finds purchase in her brother, and does not let go.
Emmet is so, so cold, Elesa thinks as the wind steals air from her lungs. (Thatâs okay. Sheâs already breathless from a terrible business called hope.)
Emmet stares back. His hands flap against Elesaâs jacket. Elesa desperately drinks in his wan face and too wide eyes and his frost bitten lips. In a tiny, meek voice, almost lost to the wind, he asks:
âAre you real?â
Elesa lets out an ugly sob. Her tears whip away in the wind as they fall. Emmetâs frightened countenance turns immediately to alarm. His shaky grasp becomes a solid grip as they spin through the air, cushioned by chandelureâs psychic.
âI think so??â Elesa warbles. She sees Emmetâs eyes dart to her mouth. Heâs reading mirroring her, she realizes with giddy delightâ itâs such an Emmet thing to do, to read lips, and-
âI am Emmet,â Emmet breathes. His eyes have started to water. âYyou are Elesa- Oh dragons, Elesa!?â
Elesa reaches. Hesitates.
Emmet grabs elesa by the lapels and crushes her tight against him. Elesa holds on, and the grief and relief in her accumulates into a wet sopping mess. Sheâs ruining his jacket, she mourns, but its okay because heâs dripping all over hers.
She canât hear what heâs saying into her shoulder, canât read what he says, but everythingâs okay because every part of her is chiming
You came back
Youâre here
Iâm not alone anymore.
Around them, the air distorts as Chandelureâs psychic wavers, flutters, and solidifies. Gravity reverses its call as they settle gently on the ground, dust billowing in all directions.
The ghost pokemon drops next to them, shaking so hard the musical clang of glass makes Elesa flinch.
You fucks, Chandelure gasps. DONâT GO LEAPING OFF BUILDINGS, I AM NOT YOUR EMERGENCY PARACHUTE.
âIâm sorry,â Elesa gasps, still giddy from the adrenaline.
AND YOU! Chandelure howls, whirling on Emmet, whoâs still staring at the ghost with huge eyes. Heâs gripping on to solid ground with the energy of a man who realized he could have been a splat on the ground.
YOU LEFT!
Emmet winces.
You- You left us, you left me-
Ah, ah no, Elesa thinks as golden globules of light shed from Chandelure. This is what a ghost looks like crying.
Emmet holds out his arms. Chandelure drifts into his embrace, and shakes, and shakes, and shakes.
You left me, the ghost pokemon whispers. How dare you. How could you.
âI didnât mean to,â Emmet whispers. âIâm sorry.â
Stop doing this to me, Chandelure demands. Golden brine joins human tears, like drops of sun trapped in wet glass. Stop going where I can not follow.
And Emmet holds his tongue, because he knows he can not promise staying. Not while Ingo and Eelektross are still in Hisui.
(In the back of Emmetâs hurt and shattered mind is a spark. Synapses connect. The cold breach of the Distortion does nothing to drown out the sudden flare of hope in Emmetâs chest, so great he can not breathe, so strong he can not feel, because thereâs a path. A difficult, painful path through the Space that Can Not Be, but a path all the same.)
âElesa, Chandelure-â Emmetâs voice breaks. He wants to tell them about Eelektross. He wants to tell them about the terrible past that is Hisui. He wants to explain how the last five months were filled with horror and wonder and fear and hope.
Hope, he thinks. So he says this:
âI know how to get Ingo home.â
A/N: Fluff! For once...but not really this is a simple one-shot but kind of mixed in with the rest of my Spidey stuff iykwim. Starts out a little sad. I also just bend the rules of how spidey senses work to go with the fic
!IT IS A ONE-SHOT PEOPLE.!
A reckless Spidey
An injured Spidey
Your thoughts
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
You tapped the edge of the building, watching the way your legs swung back and fourth. It was insufferable. You were insufferable, it's why the mission went hay wire. It was your fault. Your fault. Seven people got severely injured because of your carelessness.
"Spidey..."
What's worse is that he was here, Nightwing. The 'guardian of Bludhaven' his words always made you feel worse. How embarrassing
Nghtwing was a natural leader, his instructions were clear. The tabloids were right, Gotham didn't need a 'friendly neighbourhood Spider' they needed soldiers. Robin was right, he was better. Whywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhy
Your hands gripped the edge, the guilt pounded in your head. Why couldn't thing go your way for once? "Spidey. Look at me"
God. Why did he have to use that tone? You royally fucked up, who manages to make made Nightwing mad?
"Kid, I'm not mad." Lies. But might as well humour him
"And what, your 'just disappointed?'" You added, mocking his voice. Earning a tired sigh from him. Wow, how hostile.
"Can you at least come a bit closer? You're going to fall..." "So? I'll just swing away." You could barely listen to his words, all your senses going off. There was always danger in Gotham, it never stopped but it was manageable. Unless something big happened, so you right now you were fighting the urge to cry. .
.
.
A long silence followed, for a second you thought he was gone. Until you felt his presence next to you, great. "I'm fine dude." "And for some reason I don't believe you." Ha ha very funny, you totally weren't stressing right now or anything. You felt him nudge you lightly, "you can't save everyone, you know that right?" You knew that more than anyone, the people you knew, the things you lost. It was common knowledge, but it didn't excuse your behaviour- "But you did?" What?
"What?" "Yeah, things could've been a lot worse if it wasn't for your quick thinking." "But...It was worse because of me." He just shrugged. Shrugged?? Hello? "I'm pretty sure that was group effort, so don't be so tough on yourself." He turned to you, a gentle smile displayed on his face. You couldn't see his eyes behind the mask but you could tell that they were kind ones. He had always been the one hero you looked up to most, it was still weird thinking about how you were now technically co-workers. You wanted to tell him everything, but you couldn't even open your mouth to say thank you. If you did, there was a high chance of you sobbing, please let it just stop here. You didn't know how many more kind words you could take. "Look, you're still new to this whole crime thing, but you're doing well. And I'm not just talking about the big fights with scarecrow and things like that.." Oh god. "..you, helping the little guys really matters. Batman tends to get caught up in all those huge fights but all he wants to do is keep the people safe and cared for. Like you do, all that energy and happiness it's important."
Please stop
"You...you remind of someone." Fuck, these words are not helping. Ha.
He got up and got down from the building, not before giving you a gentle squeeze. Now you were sure that you were going to throw up. After a few minutes of soaking in his words you decided to finally go home. .
.
. Managing to slip onto the fifth floor unseen for the hundredth time you feel your body go tense. If only you could relax at home like you used to, with the people you loved. You stole one of your aunts shirts from her room. A room that hadn't been used in a while. When you entered the kitchen you noticed something by the door, it was a note that was slide under. Odd. .
-------
when jake agreed to adopt a hybrid from an old friend who couldn't keep it anymore, he was ecstatic. being the shut-in he was, he had little to no human contact on a regular basis. he envisioned all of the adventures his new companion would go on with him and the amazing bond he would make with his slighty-furry soon-to-be friend!
he heard you were nice, loyal, and obedient! all great qualities. when you arrived, though, he was surprised. he hadn't expected you to be a girl. a really pretty one, at that.
jake was horrible with girls. he had limited human contact, but even stricter limits on girls. it started when he confessed to his high-school crush, lia park. she laughed in his face and humiliated him in front of practically the entire school.
other than to work on projects or due to them being his teacher, his only interactions with women took place online through paid cam sites, and his interactions with these women wouldn't even be considered as real interactions to some. he'd been living like this for years.
even though you were a girl, jake trusted in himself to be better than this. maybe this could even help him get better with talking to women in a real life platonic way! a surge of confidence shot through him at this thought. he had this in the bag.
-------
until he didn't.
it started off as expected. jake promised himself not to overstep boundaries, and at least for the first 2 months of living together, he'd been doing a pretty fine job of just that!
you guys gradually got close and closer as the days passed. awkwardly eating together at the kitchen island evolved into eating while huddled up in a blanket and binging series after series; buying takeout more often than not turned into fun nights where messes were left, memories were made, and bonds strengthened.
as your guys' bond strengthened, your attachment to him did too, though. you find yourself trying to get as close to him wherever, whenever.
whenever he had to do work on his computer, you don't hesitate to pull up a chair and just chill there. you don't necessarily know what his job is, but you don't care. you just want to be near him.
one time when he was getting out of the shower, he was startled to find you right behind the door when he opened it. your ears perked up and you shot up to hug him. this was a regular occurrence now.
jake couldn't stop himself from getting attached, too. once he got used to you, he mentally noted down all of your cute behaviors and traits.
he noticed the way your head snapped to him whenever he entered the room you were in, the way you constantly had energy, how excited you get when dogs are depicted in whatever series you guys were binging that night, and your special love for peanut butter.
peanut butter, your favorite snack. not fancy in the slightest, but 5 star michelin gourmet to you. you would go crazy at the slightest whiff of loose peanut butter in a 20 meter radius. jake recalls that one time he accidentally left the jar of peanut butter a crack open before going to shower. he was worried when you weren't standing outside the door, only to go in the kitchen and find a ravished peanut butter jar and a very guilty-looking hybrid.
there was a problem arising within jake, though. you were too cute.
when jake first got you, he was undeniably attracted to you. he was determined to get those thoughts about you out of his head though, to maybe prove to himself that he doesn't see all women as objects of affection. over these months, though, he hasn't found it in himself to let go of these feelings. in fact, they've arguably grown.
at first, he was visually attracted to you. your beautiful proportions were a sight to see. your face was stunning, you looked healthy, and your body especially was hard to look away from. that hourglass figure shape was exactly what he'd been lusting after, his incognito tabs full of exactly these types of things.
overtime this grew into loving your personality. you were adorable, to say the least. playful, funny, and devoted. he remembers the time you two went out to a local cafe and the (very attractive) male waiter kept on making subtle advances on you. you were, of course, oblivious to these advances. he noted how you were curt and straight-faced when talking to the waiter, but starry-eyed and smiley when talking to jake. he felt himself turning into jelly at his seat.
this sweet attraction stayed, but eventually the sexual attraction was starting to take over again. before he got you, he was blasting through onlyfans and twitch subscriptions, jerking off almost every day for as long as he'd moved out from his parent's place and got his own credit card.
when he got you, though, things changed. his initial sexual attraction to you made you his source of horniness for awhile, but that wore off when transitioning into his genuinely sweet love for you era. he felt guilty getting off to other girls, not to mention they just didn't interest him anymore. he found himself not really wanting to masturbate for awhile.
until now. it started off simple, you often wear shorts and tanktops around him now that you guys are close. one night while watching a movie, he caught a glimpse of your cleavage and felt a tingle by his cock. he brushed it off. every once in a while these thoughts were unavoidable when you had a crush on somebody, obviously.
his thoughts got more intense as time passed. he watched with a gulp as you wrapped your sweet lips around the popsicle, going down it with innocence in your eyes. the juice dripped down your chin, and you simply swipe it up with your finger and suck it off with a pop. he could feel a wave of arousal in his dick, choking and sputtering on his own popsicle. you only shot him a concerned look before continuing with your own popsicle.
at some point, he reached his limit. as he got hornier, he found everything to be tormenting. you simply bending over to pick something up, sticking your body into the laundry machine to get a sock stuck in the back, or even just resting your head on his shoulder, would send his body into overdrive. he seriously needed to jerk off, or else he would go insane.
when you were sleeping one night, jake tip-toed into his bathroom and turned on the fan, just in case you could hear from your room. this was simple enough, right? he would jerk off in peace to some classic porn or something. whatever. he just needed this.
he tugged his sweatpants down and sat on the cold toilet seat, his half-hard cock lazily springing out of its confines. turning on his headphones and turning on a random porn video he found appealing. he started tugging on his cock, staring at the motions of the actors. he tried to imagine him fucking you in place of the people in the video. the thought got him going, but no matter how much he stroked, he just couldn't get that ecstasy that he used to get. he groaned internally.
eventually his cock had a dull sting to it from the fruitless jerking, and at that point he concluded he wasn't going to cum. he needed something better, more realistic, more pleasurable..
a fleshlight!
yes, of course! why didnt he-
wait, no. this would be a bad idea.
jake reluctantly thought back on the first time you barged into his room just 3 weeks after he got you. you searched the room like someone searching for contraband, digging through every single drawer, crevice, and space. he was in the living room at the time, unaware of your uninvited presence in his quarters. he only found out when you called out his name with your sweet voice and walked into the living room to ask what this object was. upon turning around, to his terror he found that you naively grasped his prized fleshlight, using your other hand to spread open its plastic lips to see what was inside.
he shot up to take it from your hands and hid it behind his back. you were confused, but jake was glad you shrugged and let it go. later that day he disposed of all his fleshlights and incriminating posessions, deciding his hand did a fine job for now.
back to the present, jake was conflicted. if he really tried hard enough, he could probably orgasm from his hand. it wouldn't be a very exciting orgasm, though. jake sought after the old days of rushes of pleasure when he used those now discarded toys.
so what would he do now? subconsciously he found himself pacing around the house, just letting himself get lost in his thoughts. he leaned against the island and scanned his eyes across his eyes across the kitchen, thinking about what he would have to buy the following day.
what should i make for breakfast? let's see, i have toast, bacon, eggs, peanut butter...
peanut butter.
a plethora of thoughts crossed his mind.
smooth.
creamy.
thick.
fuckable.
he caught himself. what the hell was he just thinking about?
as much as he tried to push these filthy thoughts out of his mind, his body betrayed him and he could feel it. his cock hardened in his sweats, just begging to be inside something. anything.
he wouldn't actually.. fuck a literal jar of peanut butter though, right? how stupid.
how stupid, he thought.
-----
unbelievably stupid, he thought, as he peeled the covering off of the peanut butter and stumbled into the bathroom, turning on the fan once more. his endless thoughts of shame couldn't prevent what he was about to do, pulling his erect penis out of its confines for the second time tonight.
there's no way, right? no way.
no way, he repeated, as he slowly inserted his leaking cock into the fresh jar of pb. it felt so good, too good. he couldn't stop himself from letting out a choked moan.
at this point, he's lost himself and he hasn't even completed a full thrust. the way the smooth and thick peanut butter encased and almost squeezed around his throbbing cock sent ripples of pleasure throughout his body, and he honestly isn't sure if he was going to last long at all.
after stilling in for a few more moments, he pulled out with a swift squelch from the peanut butter. his cock was covered in that brown-orange goodness and he couldn't get enough. he thrusted another time, then again, then again, moaning and automatically speeding up on each thrust.
fuck, yes, he thought. he could only imagine the look on your pure face when you open your favorite peanut butter only to find a giant hole down the middle. he envisioned himself acting surprised and telling you it was a common manufacturing mistake and that it was alright, you probably believing him like you always do.
he wasn't even concealing his moans at this point, forgetting his surroundings and getting lost in the feeling of his dick being sucked in and out by the peanut butter. this must be heaven, truly.
holy shit, he chanted to himself as his thrusts sped up. he felt himself gradually getting close to his high. he tossed his head in the air, beads of sweat falling from his brow while he caught his lip in his teeth.
he was getting closer, he could feel it coming on. yes, he was about to cum.
f-fuck, fuck, getting lost and high in the immense satisfaction, he failed to notice the light turning on under the bathroom door. you had woken up from the noise. and also, the unmistakable fragrance of peanut butter. what was your owner doing hogging all the peanut butter in there?! and why was he being so noisy about it?
pressing your ear against the door, you heard wet noises and jake, making noises in.. pain? was your owner in trouble?! oh no! you know jake told you not to barge into rooms anymore but this seemed like an emergency! you opened the door only to find a shocking sight! your owner got stuck in the peanut butter and was in pain!
meanwhile, jake, on the brink of orgasm, heard the creak of the door. opening his eyes in dread, only to find what he was fearing most. he immediately stopped his motions to turn away from you, mind racing with excuses as to why exactly he was fucking your prized peanut butter. it seems he didn't have to, though.
"jake, did you get stuck in the peanut butter? i'll help you!" uh oh. jake couldn't escape this now. a few dirty thoughts were in the back of his mind but he pushed them away. not the time.
"uh, yeah, but i got it. it's okay. just, uh, leave, alright? go back to sleep now."
you wanted to listen to your owner, but you knew he was in trouble! you grabbed his shoulders and turned him around, to his utter panic and terror, and tugged the jar off of him as fast as you could.
jake was in shock, to say the least. at the sensation of the peanut butter against his cock, though, he moaned. he covered his mouth, still frozen in confusion.
you were on the case, genuinely wanting to help your owner out. frowning at the sight of his body part being dirtied in peanut butter, you had a great idea! you were incredibly hungry so you could just lick it off! you've licked peanut butter and crumbs off of his hands before, and to you this was no different.
thinking you were the smartest girl in the world, you plopped down on your knees and smiled at him before starting to lick at the peanut butter on his tip.
everything was still catching up to jake, all of it hitting him at once as he felt the insanely arousing sensation of your tongue on him. he let out a stuttered groan before choking out, n-no, you, fuck, you can't- he got cut off when you took his whole tip in, suckling on it like a popsicle.
he thought he was dreaming at this point, seeing stars due to the crazy pleasure he was feeling.
yes, just like that, fuck. all rationality has left his brain now, his dream girl who had been the subject of his affection for over half a year now was sucking his dick. thinking about it for more than 3 seconds would make him blow his load, for sure. it wasn't like he could think much now, anyways. still oblivious to your actions, you took him in your mouth deeper, savoring the nutty taste of your favorite treat.
your sucking made an intense slurping noise, only serving to turn jake on more than he already was. trying to get his thoughts together, he knows this is wrong. you don't know what you're doing, and he was about to cum in your mouth. jake musters up his little amount of strength left and pulls himself out of you with a sigh and a pop from your mouth. you, frowning, notice not all of the peanut butter was gone. maybe he needed to take a break because of all of the pain. hearing the noises he was making, your heart cracked. he understood why you were doing this though, right?
determined to get this over with, you swiftly lunged your mouth back onto his pb-covered cock, effectively letting yourself choke on it. jake could only let out a very choppy moan as his eyes rolled back into his head, all strength leaving his body. he couldn't hold back anymore. he gripped your hair and pushing you down, not letting you up for air after at least 7 seconds. he releases you with a growl and barely lets you take a breath before pushing you back down, on the very brink of cumming down your unsuspecting throat.
using your head as his new personal fleshlight, his pace is ruthless. tears are racing down your cheeks as you try to persevere through the pain just for your dear owner.
he's so close, he's seeing white. his eyes roll back into his head, his entire body covered in a thin layer of sweat from the efforts.
he's ready to cum now, to cum down your little throat and confuse you. he tried not to imagine what would happen between you two after this, not wanting to think about any consequences. he just needed to cum in your cute little windpipe and choke you with his babies.
he lets out a loud sob, feeling mass amounts of his semen blasting from his pulsing cock to your tiny oral entry. he holds your head down, your nose pressing into a patch of hairs while he's coming down from his high.
pulling you off with a hum, he loosely grasps his softening cock and pants, you on the floor confused but happy. you helped your owner! you stood up and hugged him, making your merry way out back into your room.
left in the bathroom was the shell of what once was a man and a ruined jar of peanut butter.
what a waste.
You know how Gojo's six eyes allow him to instantly see a person's cursed energy and cursed technique? He would have almost instantly known that Geto had the power to absorb curses, but he wouldn't have known how, and he probably freaked the fuck out the first time he saw Geto swallow one. They would have fought the curse. Gojo would have used the opportunity to show off because duh, but he wouldn't have completely destroyed the curse so that he could give it to Geto.
Gojo: So, do you like touch it or something?
Geto: Huh?
Gojo: When you absorb the curse with your technique. Do you just have to touch it?
Geto: No, I wish. It's actually really gross. You don't have to look. It's better if you don't.
Gojo: Gross? You just turned the curse into a ball. That's pretty cool. What are you even talkin- *watches Geto fucking throat goat the curse* Oh...
Geto: *almost throws up because he hates this part of his technique* Told you. It's pretty gross. Gojo?
Gojo: *instantly teleports to the jujutsu high shower room, blasts ice cold water fully clothed*
Then because Gojo can't catch a break, he would look over and notice Nanami's in the shower too (he's facing away and ignoring him because duh).
Gojo: Funny story, Nanamin. You're probably wondering-
Nanami: I'm not.
Later, Gojo would lie and tell Geto that he was right. That watching him swallow a curse was gross. He would be obnoxious about it. Geto would initially be understanding, albeit annoyed. Except that Gojo would bring it up and bring it up:
Gojo: But why swallow it?
Geto: I-
Gojo: Like, what even led you to try that?
Geto: So my techn-
Gojo: Those curse balls are pretty sizable, too. Who would look at that and be like, "Huh, maybe I should swallow this."
Geto: *stares at Gojo deadpan*
Gojo: And you had no one to teach you? You just decided to swallow it on your own?
Gojo: I get turning the curses into balls after you've tamed them. That had to have come naturally. Instinct, you know. But swallowing? Was that instinct, too?
Gojo: Did you swallow the first curse you ever beat? Or did you, like, collect a bunch of them before you stared at a huge pile of curse balls, and you were like, "What if I just swallowed all these?"
Gojo: Circling back to the fact that you had no one to teach you. Everything I know is stuff that was drilled into me. Mostly. Not the point. Point being: if one of my teachers told me to swallow something. I probably wouldn't. I would have a lot of questions, and that's that my six eyes usually always see the answers.
Gojo: You don't even come from an established clan, so you totally had to figure it out on your own. And all by yourself, you just decided: "I gotta swallow these curse balls."
Geto: You done?
Gojo: How many have you swallowed? Always just the one, or have you tried swallowing multiple before? Do the curse balls vary in size? What's the biggest- nevermind. Don't answer that. Um, does your throat ever get sore?
Geto: I'm not indulging any of this. You weren't raised with any manners, Gojo.
Gojo: So you swallow because it's good manners?
Geto: You said there's a bounty on your head, right?
Gojo: Yeah! Like ever since I was born. Silly, really.
Geto: How much is it?
Gojo:
Geto: Bring this up again, and I'll cash in.
Gojo would eventually start getting used to seeing Geto swallow the curses. At least now, he would wait until they both got back from their missions to take his cold showers.
#jjk headcanons#jjk#satosugu#satoru gojo#suguru geto#gojo#headcanon#i dont know#also i think gojo would feel bad when he did realize how much it bothered geto to swallow them#but this was mostly a fun take on it
he really is just a silly little dog boy isnt he, ngl i think he's was kinda proud to show off his barking skills XD
Have a nice dayyy <3
Sorry this one is shorter than the others (not too badly but still) I just needed to write a quick fluff to give my brain joy.
Tree Bark
Morgie le Fay x Reader
Pronouns Used: They/them/theirs
Summary: Sometimes you just need time to yourself, for some people thatâs a nice walk and sometimes that walk is interrupted by the odd sound of animal noises.
Warnings: It's implied that Morgie is scaring off people who flirt with the reader but I'm not going to flat out say that. The reader is a touch insecure and a has their walls up really high but that's about it. Reader is referred to as a âfun guyâ but in a gender neutral way (like how someone would be like âget a load of this guyâ)
Word Count: 1.6K
    Every corner of Merlin Academy is loud, they had learned that early on in their time at the school. Few places were open for you to have a silent moment alone. The library was quiet normally, but at that time of night it was closed, far out of their reach. And the lounge on their floor of the dorms was currently loud too, bubbling with castlecoming plans and just about two steps away from being a party. It was too much to think straight. Too loud to think and too boring to stay up. Leaving them in this odd place where there was no place for them to run. Sleep too far out of reach to distract them from their thoughts and the energies around them too hard to relate to. It wasnât like they had a date to the dance, technically they were going with Charming but thatâs just because the prince had begged them to. Telling them that he hated the idea of them going alone but (Y/n) was pretty sure he only invited him because Ella said no. Now in the messy noise of Merlin Academy, they seemed to find themself wandering the campus grounds, doing their best to ignore the pouring rain around them. Â
    If they were honest the sound of their rain boots sloshing through puddles and rain pattering on their plastic umbrella was comforting. A good noise compared to the cluttered noise of their dorm hall, nearly musical in their mind. It had been a little too long since they had let themself be fully alone, trying to keep themself as the âfun guyâ who was always there when you needed someone. Never letting themselves be seen as something other than that to those around them. It was easier that way. But now they could actually pout all on their own, no need to cover up how they genuinely felt about the upcoming night. It sucked going to castlecoming alone, knowing that they were the only one of their friends who didnât have a single person ask them. Charming got asked by just about everyone who looked at him. Naveen had Tiana, Jasmine and Aladdin. And it was just them, alone. People flirted with them, sometimes, they canât deny that but it never lasted long. It was like people got scared off by them actually liking the attention they were gaining from them. Never staying around to turn that flirting into something else, and they had no clue what it was about them. Of course, itâs not like they thought someone would ask them to the dance, they werenât let down by not being asked. They were just disappointed. Is it so bad to just want to be wanted?
     But hey, at least the night was pleasant. They adored the smell of rain and the sounds of the night time. The crickets hidden ever so slightly under the pitter patter of the rain, the sound of owls calling out in the edge of the woods. The hum of air conditioning units of the school. And the, was that some sort of animal? They pause, listening to the noises. A few barks and howls being followed by hissing. It would repeat over and over, and it seemed to be coming from a tree? Against their better judgment, they found themselves heading to the large trunk beside Merlinâs office window. The noise was gaining volume as they got closer, it was definitely not an animal. They had come to realize the noise was for sure someone imitating animals, which made them giggle slightly, looking up into the tree to find the source.Â
   Eyes squinted as they stared up. (Y/n) could see someone up there but they werenât quite sure who it was. âHello?â The word is followed by a shocked noise of surprise and the ruffling of leaves. If they squinted, they could see a guy in the tree trying to hide himself with a stick, peaking around it slightly. âNice night weâre having, huh?â Their eyebrows raise, smile on their face as they continue to stare up. The stick falls to the ground on the opposite side of them. The boy in the tree instead covering his face with his hands. âCat got your tongue, huh? Or do you just not have any interest in speaking to me?â They were still attempting to tell just who they were talking to, stepping even closer to the tree and craning their neck back further. Who could that be? They swore they could barely make out the shape of the boy hugging his body close to the trunk. Possibly against his better judgment, the boy in the tree meows.Â
   He was making a plum fool of himself, he knew that. (Y/n) stood under a tree staring up at him and he meowed at them. Great way to get the cutest kid in school to want you, idiot. What on earth could Morgie be thinking? âYou know,â they tease, and if he squints he can see them smiling, âIf you wonât tell me who you are Iâm going to have to come up there and find out myself.â âNo need to do that! Just carry on with going where youâre going.â He bites his lip, watching them put their umbrella down, a giggle following the action that made his stomach do flips. âWhat are you doing up there, Morgie?â He didnât think theyâd recognize his voice, maybe they could see him? Morgie hoped they couldnât, the heat in his cheeks would for sure give his embarrassment away. He liked the idea that they knew his voice though, even if it meant he had to accept they heard him making animal noises. âI uh,â he scratches the back of his neck, looking away from the two of them, âWell, I was hoping to call a dog?â âInto a tree?â He was digging himself into a hole, closing his eyes as he leans his head against the trunk of the tree. âYeah, I guess I was.âÂ
    (Y/n) places a boot clad foot onto a knobbed part of the bark at the base of the tree as their hands latching onto low hanging branches to help them gain leverage. Pulling themself up into the old foliage, âScoot over, le Fay.â His eyes widen, following the command as he leaves a spot open for them to slide into. âWhy are you,â he lets his words fall flat, watching them crawl into the spot beside him. âWell, if youâre not going to tell me why youâre making animal noises in a tree then Iâm going to try and see your point of view.â They tilt their head, watching the school principal enter his office. They could see the rest of his friends in the office, seemingly frozen in time. âSo, thereâs the dogs youâre trying to call into the tree, huh?â Morgie lets out a nervous laugh, staring over at them with near heart-eyes. âYeah, I guess so. She left me on watch out here but sheâs so stubborn that sheâll ignore the person she left on watch.âÂ
    With a hum, they turn to look at him, âWhy would she leave someone as powerful as you out here on watch? Hook doesnât have any magic without a wand, shouldnât he be the boy on watch? Of course his animal sounds wouldnât be as realistic as yours though, would they?â He smiles, scratching the back of his neck, âYou think theyâre realistic?â âYeah, itâs impressive of you.â âThanks,â he looks away from them again, eyes locking down on the abandoned umbrella on the ground, âWhat are you doing walking around alone in the rain?â âWell,â they mumble, arm reaching up to hold onto their arm, âI just, needed to get away from all the castlecoming excitement. Iâm hoping that all the noise in the dorm hall will calm down enough for me to be able to go to bed. The other royals are so loud.âÂ
    A nervous hand reaches out to hold theirs, the touch coaxes them to look up to him with a soft smile. âWhy arenât you part of the excitement? Youâre going with the perfect prince charming arenât you?â The way he talks about Charming holds some venom that (Y/n) hates to admit have them butterflies. They shake their head, smiling at him, âTechnically yeah, but weâre just going as friends though. The girl he wanted to go with rejected him and a grand total of nobody asked me so.â A shrug racks through the royalâs body, looking down at their umbrella so they donât have to see pity cross his face. Or the smirk that follows the mocking laugh that would come out of his mouth over it. Whichever the sorcerer decided to grace them with. âNo one asked you? But youâre stunning.â Heâs nearly startled out of the tree by the speed their head snaps over to look at him. âWhat?â He smiles softly, reaching out to caress their cheek, âYouâre stunning, how could no one want to take you as their date to the dance?âÂ
   The words make their stomach do summersaults. He thought they were attractive? No, not just attractive. Stunning. Who in their right mind would think that someone like them was stunning? They couldnât get so much as a date, and here they were with a villain flirting with them. A cute villain at that. âYeah well, seems youâre the only one who thinks so.â He hums, poking their nose softly, âThen you should have no trouble with saving me a dance tomorrow night, right?â They bite their lip with a giggle, taking in the look on the boyâs face. âYeah, I think swing that. Are you going to warn me youâre there with animal noises too?â He laughs, pushing them ever so softly into the treeâs trunk, careful to make sure that they would be safe from it. âYou are so not funny, (L/n).â âIf Iâm not funny then why are you laughing, le Fay?â
Eu Hi, I saw that you were open to requests. I really need to satisfy my desire for Juuzou headcanons.... I need to read something about my husband.....(well, it could be random headcanons)đ°đ€
no, thank you for enabling my ideas, lol. I am so happy to write to him. This is my first time, and I had absolutely no idea what to do, but I'll get better. i promise. This is a little short and late so I apologize in advance!!
Juuzou x reader Hc
Ok, starting off. A lot of people think he wouldn't like to be touched. But i think it's the opposite.
He is extremely touchy. Not it that kinda way he just likes to give you lots of hugs and stuff along those lines
Hand holding,slinging an arm over your shoulder, linking his pinkie with yours-
He just really loves stuff like that.
But he does it a lot in public, and he doesn't understand the concept of PDA being frowned upon.
Well actually your not sure it he's actually confused or just doesn't care.
But that's the fun part you never know with him.
Another thing he adores is doing your hair. And he's surprisingly good at it.
He knows how to do a bunch of intricate hairstyles, and it's one of the few times you get to see him truly focused besides when he's touching us his stitches or trying to draw.
Speaking of stitches.
He would probably want to give you some to match his. And if you agree, he gets really excited.
If not, he will drop it for a little bit . I will probably ask you again every once in a while.
You just gotta hold your ground.
Switching gears a bit tho.
People alot of the time do forget juuzo is really smart
Just cause he acts a bit childish does not mean he's clueless.
And he really likes to make you remember this. It's his favorite thing to watch you look at him in a bit of shock when he says something smart as hell.
You could be confused about something, and he will just pop up behind you, give you an answer, and run off with a laugh and a smile.
On the other hand, though, he gets more confused when it comes to social interactions.
You do a lot of the talking.
If you didn't, there would be a lot more drama surrounding yall cause juuzou has zero filter.
And this can be an issue cause..
Yall gossip to damn much
Come home from a long day at work, and either he's waiting for you to tell him the tea, or he's got the most jaw-dropping shit to tell you.
Apparently, they are messy as hell at the CCG đ.
And it's perfect because people tend to get the impression that he's not listening to what's going on around him when he spaces out.
Yeah he is listening to EVERYTHING.
You two are like that couple who are just best friends, honestly.
Always together, always on the same page. It's lowkey adorable. Sometimes a little creepy. But it's whatever.
I will say this
Personality wise, if you are a calmer person it's really nice cause you balance him out a bit, and your personality mix together a little so he might chill a bit more and you might gain some of his energy, which makes life a bit easier for everyone including you guys.
But if your just as hyper it's a whole thing. You guys are crazy together. Lowkey be enabling each other into doing dumb shit on the daily, and that can get a bit dangerous as juuzou has a high pain tolerance, so 1. If you dare him to do something stupid and he gets really hurt, he might not notice right away, and it could cause issues. Or 2. He dares you to do something, not aware of how painful it should be, and you end up getting hurt.
Either way, somebody is injured.
It's ok though at least yall are happy together. đ
Being dead serious, yall surprisingly have a pretty stable relationship.
Like it's lowkey healthy and it surprises people. Like nobody expects someone like him to be able to even find someone let alone keep a partner around. So when he does and you don't go anywhere people are kinda like
đ€đ€đ€
Scratching their chins like "if they can do it why the hell can't i." You know.
But yeah that's about it. I hope you enjoyed again this was my first time writing for him so I'm trying to get a feel for the character. Have faith i will get better đ i love you all have a lovely day/night
You were the quintessential of the pop-rock star. You had a lot of problems with the press, both concerning your love life and the setbacks of your ex-band.
The first problem was that you were often seen leaving hotels with different partners : the press loved that you didn't settle down and always made a big deal out of it. You didn't really care, you knew the tabloids always twisted the truth just to sell more garbage. What bothered you was that your mom kept calling you about it, wondering why you couldn't be discreet and serious, have a normal job like your twin; the perfect little Robby, pride and joy of the family. He was in the navy, serving the country, and your father liked to remind you that Robert was doing something useful, something great. Yet, you didn't care what the public and your family thought of you. You just wanted to play your songs, have fun on stage and in the studio. It was your cop-out after some traumatic experiences you went through in high school.
As for your problems with the band, it was a different kettle of fish.Â
You were the lead vocalist and guitarist. You loved being on stage, it made you feel powerful, in control. You were backed by three talented but lazy guys about your age. It was your agent's idea to put you in charge of them. And what a great idea. At first it was fun, you had a good time. But as time went by, their excesses slowed down your rise in the charts. And they wasted all their time, energy and money on the wrong things. Every day, the press had a scoop about them doing something illegal or immoral. The last one on their list was being seen exiting a bar with underage fans.
Those recent events forced your label to give you a choice; either the whole group was fired or you could continue as a solo artist; your producer and staff knew that you weren't really a troublemaker, so it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for you. You didn't even hesitate to sign your new contract ; and that led to a new scandal in the press, creating false drama between you and your ex mates. But as much as you were determined to make a name for yourself, you also needed a break from all the âscandalâ that was going on. You made a deal with your producer and new agent: you had one month to come up with at least two singles, while you could go anywhere you wanted to find inspiration and relax.
And what could be more relaxing than the seaside ? The beach, the sun, the salty air, the feeling of being in an eternal summer ? It was perfect. You booked your flight to San Diego and rented a small beach house on Airbnb. What could possibly go wrong?Â
Well, maybe running into your twin brother at the local bar.
The Hard Deck seemed like a pretty chill place and the owner, Penny, was really nice. You spent some evenings there, trying to come up with some lyrics over a Coke. She was curious and you were happy to share what you were working on, even though you hadn't made any progress. She had that reassuring aura, and talking with her was like talking to an old friend that you knew all your life. She was genuinely interested in what you had to share, and gave you some advice when she could. She also was curious to hear your voice and tried a few times to get you at the piano. You refused politely each time, feeling strangely shy.
It took you a week and a half to work up the courage to go to that piano.
The bar was rather empty, which was unusual for a Saturday night but made it easier for you to convince yourself that it was okay. You discreetly started to warm up your voice and started a version of Your Song - Penny confessed to you it was one of her favorite songs.
In a corner of the bar, by the pool table, a group of pilots were surprised to hear the piano playing at this hour. "Looks like someone stole your seat, Bradshaw," a tall blond man sneered. "Looks like it, Seresin." Bradley raised an eyebrow and leaned over to see who had taken his place at the piano. The others gently urged him to join them; after all, he was the musician among the squad. He pretended to be annoyed by their request and joined you for the last chorus. You were surprised, but smiled quietly and finished your "performance" with him. You made room for him on the little bench, and with a look of approval, you moved on to another song of his choice: Ain't no mountain higher . The patrons of the bar, who had become more numerous, were delighted to have a private mini-concert. Some of them started to dance, others joined in singing. It was a fun experience.
After the end of the song, you smiled and shook the hand of your partner of a moment and let him enjoy the piano by himself. You made your way back to your stool and asked Penny for a glass of water. You felt a presence next to you and turned a little to see who was there. You easily guessed it was a navy man ; the uniform - talk about obvious -, the perfectly styled hair. You grinned at the tall blond man in front of you.
âSo, does that pretty voice have a name ?â asked Jake with a smirk. You rolled your eyes at his flirtatious tone and his pushed Texan accent. âWell yes actually, Iâm-â âY/N ?â You frowned, immediately recognizing the voice that had spoken your name. You easily spotted his surprised face among the other navy people that were close to you and Jake. "Robert?" "Don't tell me you're his girlfriend..." "What? No!" you shouted at the same time, making a few of the others giggle. "Gross!" you pretended to vomit. "She's my sister, Hangman," Bob sighed. "Twin sister, to be exact," you precised.
You couldn't help but giggle at the shocked looks on the faces of who you assumed were his colleagues. He was suddenly flooded with questions, and you enjoyed watching him turn redder and redder. Then they focused on you. "You two don't look alike at all," Reuben said, scanning you in detail. You rolled your eyes and smiled, leaning against your brother as you poked his side. "Robert took the height and brains, I took the charm and talent."Â
Your brother sighed and ran his hand over his neck, slightly embarrassed. His teammates were happy to meet you, especially happy to annoy Bob, and Natasha seemed to realize something. "Your voice sounds familiar... I've heard it somewhere before... in a band, right?" " Nemesis ," you smiled and nodded, mentioning your old band, "but I'm solo now. Kept the stage name though." "Quite a few scandals with that band..." your twin mumbled. You decided not to pay attention to him. Like your parents, Robert had never understood your career choice, arguing that you were brilliant at school and could have done anything else. Of course you were pretty intelligent but you had fallen in love with music as an outlet for your pain. But your family didnât seem to accept your way of coping with your traumas.
The rest of the evening went off without a hitch. You got to know your brother's second family. They all had their own personalities, but that's what made them so endearing. Jake invited you to join them the next day, since it was their day off and they wanted to relax at the beach. You gladly accepted.
Robert didn't say much to you, the atmosphere between you was cold and tense. Natasha noticed it, so she joined her WSO to chat. "What's wrong, Bob? Your sister seems nice and yet you're here, not saying anything to her." He sighed a little as he watched you chatting and having fun with the others. "I'm worried about her," he confessed, "she⊠she hides herself in that personna⊠that Nemesis âŠâ âAren't all artists ? I mean, they wouldn't take a stage name otherwise.â âI guess⊠but Iâm scared sheâs losing herselfâŠâ he said softly, glancing at you. He grumbled when he noticed that Jake was flirting with you; and you didn't seem to refuse his advances either. Natasha let out a soft âdamnâ when Jake slid his arm around you and Bob almost jumped off his seat, mumbling an irritated âthatâs itâ.Â
You felt a strong hand gripping your wrist and you were drawn out of Jakeâs embrace and out the bar. âThe hell Robby ?â you scoffed once outside, âI was in the middle of a conversation !â âNo you werenât, you were flirting ! With one of my teammates !â âFirst off, he initiated it ! And second, in what world is that your business ? Weâre grown ups, I can handle some flirting !â âWell, first off , youâre my sister and second , Hangman is⊠heâs not the type to settle down !â he tried to explain himself but you just rolled your eyes. âOh my god, you sound just like dad ! Why should I settle down ? Iâm having fun, Iâm happy that way !â You pinched the bridge of your nose, annoyed. âStop trying to father me, Iâm doing fine since I left !â âYeah, you seem real good in the local news,â he mumbles, putting his hands in his pockets. He didn't even look at you as he said those words. You hated it when he did that, always half-assing his thoughts. You couldnât help but let out a nervous laugh, tilting your head back. âAnd now you sound like mom. I can handle my life just fine Robert. I donât need your concern, let alone your judgment ! Iâve never been better, ok ? Leave me the fuck alone !â
You were lying. You both knew that. He could read into you so easily, it made you sick. Call it âtwin magicâ or âsibling intuitionâ, you still hated the way his blue eyes looked at you with worry and questions in them, knowing all too well that you were not fine.Â
You passed him, going back to the bar to get your stuff and pay Penny. Out of spit - and mostly because you wanted to - you handed your number to Jake and left with a smirk. You could hear the squad gently hassle Hangman who proudly showed off the piece of paper you gave him.Â
A little fun wonât kill you, would it ?
The next day, you joined the Dagger squad on the beach, near the Hard Deck.Â
They were playing a strange football game ; dogfight football , attack and defense at the same time, Natasha explained to you. You watched their first round and second, it seemed fun. At least, Bob seemed to have fun. You remembered he was not a teamsport guy younger. He actually hated the fact that your dad made him go to the tryouts for the football team in high school. To his misfortune, he got in. You smiled and sighed remembering those days. Sometimes, you missed the time you were close to your twin, when you could tell him everything, before it all fell apart in junior year. A cold shiver ran down your spine while you thought back about it. Your life changed so much at that time, you didnât like to remember it.
Crouching in front of you, Jake snapped you out of your reverie. âHey there darlin, care to join us ? Weâll be gentle, promise.â he said with a playful grin. You arched an eyebrow and sneered. âOh please, donât be, I can handle it.â He laughed and helped you up. You were put in his team against Natasha, Bob, Bradley and Reuben. You were - to your own surprise - pretty fast and efficient. Javy and Jake joked around saying that being stealth had to be running in the family.Â
You really had fun, even laughing with your brother. You didnât know who won but you scored the last point of the game, and Jake put you on his shoulders to celebrate before tossing you in the water. âYouâre a dead man, Seresin !â you shouted, before laughing. Robert helped you out the water and gave you a towel without a word. You silently thanked him and you all took a water break while deciding what to eat.
Reuben and Mickey volunteered to go get the pizzas and while they did, Natasha proposed a volleyball match. She decided that Bob and you would be in her team and you smiled. Bob couldnât help but let out a soft chuckle ; the two of you loved that sport when you were kids. When you went to your grandma's house for the holidays, you used to play against your cousins. Of course, you kicked their ass. They called you the Evil Twins. Once your heads were in the game, you were unstoppable. And Bradley, Jake and Javy would soon understand why you and Bob were so happy to be on the same team.Â
The two of you didnât even need to talk to understand the next move of the other. Even Natasha didnât really understand what was happening. You won the first, then second, then third match. You laughed at the exasperation of Jake and Javy, Bradley on the other hand was just tired of running around. He quit with Natasha, leaving Jake and Javy to find a strategy to strike Bob and you down. âLike the old times huh ?â your twin smiled, giving you a bottle of water. You returned the smile and nodded. âLetâs show them. Evil Twins ?â âEvil Twins.â He clapped his hands with yours with a grin. Oh, the other two weren't ready for the beating they were about to get.
Javy called it quits after the third set. They lost them all and he was getting tired. Jake was pouting while you jumped on your brotherâs back. âEvil Twins for the win !â Natasha laughed. You giggled, while Robert ran around like a doofus, you on his back, taunting Jake. "Don't tease him too much, you know he's a sore loser!" sneered Bradley. "Nonsense!" sulked Jake, "I always accept my defeats, except they never happen.â The rest of the team rolled their eyes, both annoyed and amused.
Reuben and Mickey returned with the pizzas, and the rest of the afternoon was less athletic. Some went for a swim, others played cards in the shade of an umbrella. You chatted peacefully with Natasha and Jake, Robert never too far away. Strangely enough, you were glad he stayed close. Sometimes he would join in the conversation, but he remained Bob, preferring to watch and listen rather than talk. It was a nice afternoon, you felt like a teenager on holiday with a bunch of friends. Bradley and Javy started a water fight by grabbing Bob and throwing him in the water. You and Natasha ran at the boys to avenge him and one thing led to another and you all ended up in the water, friendly fighting each other.
The sun slowly got low, the afternoon ending peacefully. You stayed at the bar with the squad, learning more about each one, more about your brotherâs ânewâ life. They told you about their life on base and about the bird strike that Natasha and Bob had suffered from. You scolded your twin because he never told you about it. He defended himself by saying that it was not that big of a deal, but by the looks on the others' faces, you knew he lied.
Part of you was jealous of him. You both left home around the same time, and he seemed so happy now, away from your parents and their intrusive presence, away from your father's demoralizing, degrading and demotivating comments. You couldn't understand how he could be doing so well when you were struggling to find yourself, to be happy. This question echoed in your head and made you feel too much in the room. You excused yourself and went outside for some fresh air. You were pale and shaking, and anxiety was getting the better of you. You tried to ease your breathing and closed your eyes to focus on the sound of the waves in front of you. You could hear the laughter and indescribable conversations in the distance, mingled with the music and singing. It was somewhat peaceful and yet you couldn't calm the flood of painful memories that invaded your mind. Every laugh reminded you of your ex's, every burst of voice a little too loud made you cower. You didn't want to think about it anymore. You wanted to forget everything. You just wanted it to stop. It had to stop. You had to get away from it all. You had to-
âY/N ? Are you ok ?â
Your brother's gentle voice made everything disappear. You felt yourself breathe again. But you knew it would only be temporary ; because seeing him worried would make you weak and anxious again. You took a deep, shaky breath before turning to him. You tried to hide the tremble of your voice, and put on a fake smile. "It's okay... I... I have to go home. Thanks for today, it was fun!" You passed him in a hurry, still pale and scrapie. Â
He sighed and bit his lip before summoning his courage. "What are you running from? You... you looked like you were fine, and then all of a sudden you're running away. " "Robby, please-" "What happened?" "Nothing, I-" "Did someone say something?" "No! I just-" "Did I say or do something wrong? Tell me!" "Then let me talk for godâs sake !" you clenched your fists then sighed. "You didn't do anything wrong, Robby. It's just that... I can't..." your voice cracked a little and you leaned your head back to hold back your tears. Bob's head tilted in concern and he stepped towards you. "Can't what? You can't do what?"
You didn't answer, shaking your head. You couldn't put into words the confusion you felt. You searched for words and began to pace back and forth. "Can't do what Y/N?" Robert insisted gently. "I... fuck... fuck."Â
Your voice and your whole body were shaking. It was getting harder and harder to hold back the tears. How could you tell your brother that you envied him and hated that feeling ? How could you envy him for building his life, a life filled with healthy loved ones that were there for him? How could you hold a grudge when he was the one who got you out of your abusive relationship at the risk of his acceptance into the naval academy ?
He took another step towards you, reaching for your hand, but you stepped back. "Hey, come on, tell me-" "I can't get over it, okay?! I-I can't figure out how and why you managed to grow up and I'm stuck at 17! Why do I always feel like I'm in pieces, alone, like he 's still running my life, like he 's always there, over my shoulder, no matter what I do?" "Y/N... it wasn't your fault-" "I know!!! I fucking know it wasn't my fault!!â you cut him, almost screaming, âI know he 's the one who did this to me, who pretended to love me, who beat the shit out of me and abused me every single day for months! I know all of that ! Then why am I still stuck there ? Why am I the one still struggling?! Why am I the one who feels like a complete failure ? Why can't I let it go?!" your bottom lip was trembling as tears rolled down your face. âWhy canât I just move on ? Why do I always hear dad saying âtold you soâ or mom sighing every time I mess up ? Why donât they ever want to talk about what happened but they urge me to just forget about it ?! Why don't they support me ? Why donât you ?!âÂ
You gasped, trying to catch your breath, before you whimpered and cried like a baby. Bob stood still for a moment before pulling you into his arms and hugging you. He suspected that the events of your past were still haunting you, but not to this extent. And you felt that he didn't support you... he felt like shit. How could he neglect your feelings so much, how could he act the way he blamed your parents? He let you cry against him for a long moment, swallowing his discomfort. He was the one to blame, and he had to focus on you. "I... I'm sorry, Y/N. I... I didn't realize that my behavior was hurting you⊠I'm just worried, and I didn't show it the right way. I'm an idiot." "A big idiot," you mumbled, sniffling. "Yes, a big idiot. And I'd really like you to let me help you. We... We have contacts with some really good therapists for post-traumatic stress and stuff... I could give you their numbers?" You just nodded, your tears finally stopping. "I'm sorry I yelled at you..." you mumbled. Bob smiled and pinched your side. "Don't be, I deserved it. Iâm sorry I tried to interfere between you and HangmanâŠ" âHeâs actually a sweet guy behind his smug facade, y'know ?â you smiled and chuckled to his falsely doubtful face and the little 'meh' he let out.
As promised, Bob put you in touch with the therapists he'd told you about, and negotiated a longer return period with your agency. You had a full month and a half more. You started to really work on the singles, and your sessions with the therapist were helping. You knew you'd have to keep seeing one when you got home. But going wasnât something you wanted to think about. As the days went by, you didn't want to leave San Diego. Your brother and the Dagger Squad were stationed here permanently, and you needed him in your life.
Him and Jake.
You always thought that the two of you were just a fling, that you or he would get tired of it and move on. But neither of you did. You spent more and more time with him, he'd crash at your Airbnb - uninvited - every now and then with a movie or dinner. The more time you spent with him, the more you fell for him and you didn't want it to end as a one-night stand, you knew that much.Â
As you got to dig beneath his proud, cocky, arrogant facade, you discovered a gentle man full of insecurities. He talked about his father, who was not exactly the ideal role model and the fact that he didnât have the best of relations with him. He talked about his mama, and with the look he had in his eyes, you knew he worshiped the woman ; based on what he shared, you figured Mrs Seresin was more than strong and dedicated to her children. He told you about his sisters, both of them a couple of years older than him, and his nieces and nephews. He loved the munchkins - his terms, not yours - and you saw in his eyes how much he meant it. They were his whole world, but heâd never admit it.
You tried to take your time with him but he had a strange effect on you ; you found yourself opening up to him, faster than you thought. You'd never told anyone about your abusive relationship - except Robert. And Jake had listened to you without judgment or interruption. He sat there, ready to absorb any information you wanted and were able to share.
So you were torn between your desire to get back to the recording studio in New York, to get back to work, and your desire to stay in the peaceful everyday life you'd created in just a few weeks. You had to go back. You had obligations to keep. Maybe after you fulfilled your part of the contract, you could negotiate and come back to San Diego? This thought was the only thing that kept you working hard. You succeeded in writing three more singles than the agreed two. You were quite pleased with yourself.
And sooner than you realized, you had to go back to New York.
Natasha, with the help of the rest of the team, had organized a little surprise going-away party at the Hard Deck. Penny was in on the secret and had given them the bar to themselves. You loved the surprise and the evening was unforgettable. Bradley had insisted on karaoke, and you dragged your twin along. Robert rolled his eyes, but played along. You had the time of your life and enjoyed every second of this last night with your new friends. They made you promise to call them whenever you could, to think of them and to come back as soon as possible. They took you home and spent a few more hours with you before letting you rest. But just when you thought everyone was gone, you found Jake on the couch, waiting for you. You felt butterflies in your stomach as you saw him there, his eyes anchored in yours. You detailed his face, as if to remember it after you'd left; his slightly wavy blond hair, those beautiful green eyes, his perfect jawline, his cocky smile. That damn smile that made you weak in the knees like a teenager. God, you hated that smile as much as you loved it.
"Enjoying the view?"
You didn't realize that he had stood up and was now so close to you. A deep blush spread across your cheeks and yet you couldn't take your eyes off him, your gaze locked with his. You bit your lip and grinned. "So what if I am, big boy?" you teased. He huffed, amused, and his hand slowly reached for yours, your knuckles brushing. His other hand reached for your cheek, his thumb stroking it tenderly. You leaned into his touch, feeling yourself melt under his gaze. He said nothing, his eyes never leaving you. "What?" you whispered, your heart beating a little faster. "That's how I want to remember you." "Like what? Tipsy and tired?" you laughed a little. "Na. Happy... relaxed... you look beautiful." Jake whispered back, his cheeks taking on a rosy hue. Your stomach fluttered and you found the courage to interlock his fingers with yours. "Sounds like I have you under my siren's spell, Lieutenant..." you teased, biting your lip. "You certainly do, ma'am," he whispered again, the gap between the two of you only a few inches. You felt your confidence slip from your fingers, your eyes on his lips.
"Kiss me..."
It's an almost inaudible beg that escaped you, and you didn't even have time to be embarrassed that you felt him on your lips. The kiss was sweet, tender. You squeezed his hand into yours, and his free one slid around your waist, holding you close. You wanted the kiss to last forever. With amazing ease, Jake lifted you against him, his hands going under your thighs. You wrapped your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck. He carried you into the bedroom, his lips exploring yours, your jaw, your neck and your collarbone. Your fingers brushed through his soft hair and soon you felt your back against the mattress. Your clothes ended up chaotically thrown around the room as you undressed and kissed each other. The moon gave you just enough light to never lose sight of him. His eyes devoured you before his hands discovered your body. He asked you if you were okay every step of the way, and you never thought being asked for consent could be so arousing.
That night was the best sex you've ever had. It was slow and tender at first, and when you were both comfortable enough, it got rougher, in a good way. You fell asleep curled up against him, rocked by his heartbeat.
The next morning you woke up alone in bed. Jake left a note on the nightstand, saying he had to go to work early. "Call me when you can, have a safe flight. PS: Gonna miss you. PPS: If anything happens to you on the flight, I'll hunt the pilot." You chuckled and tucked the post-it into your notebook. You quickly got ready and Robert took you to the airport.
The ride was rather quiet, neither of you wanting to be separated again. He helped you with your luggage and waited with you until you finally had to go. You hugged him tightly and thanked him for the past weeks. "Call me when you get there, okay? And don't forget to hydrate. And eat. And..." "Ok Dad," you joked with a smile, "I'll call you, don't worry. Love you, Robby." "I love you too. Be safe."
8 months.
You have been stuck in New York for 8 long months. You did a lot though. A new album, some concerts, some interviews and photo shoots. The 'scandals' in the press disappeared and the journalists finally focused more on your songs. You video called the Daggers as much as you could - almost every day - and texted a lot with your brother, reassuring him that you continued to see a therapist and that you were doing well under the stress. But the one you called and texted the most was Jake. Every day you had a sweet good morning text, and every night you had an equally sweet good night text.
You missed him.
You missed them all, of course. But Jake Seresin was under your skin. And as hard as it was to admit, you loved him. You couldn't wait to see him again. Of course, no one knew you were together. Natasha seemed to have doubts, and sometimes Bob was somewhat suspicious too but as long as they didnât ask you didnât say anything.
8 months of hard work and your agent agreed to let you go to San Diego as he made an arrangement between a recording studio and your label. You told no one but Penny. You wanted to surprise the team. You had one last show to do in New York and then you would catch your flight to California.Â
Before the concert, you called your brother, knowing that he would probably be at the Hard Deck with the others, since it was almost 7:00 p.m there. As soon as he answered, you could hear the team around him. "Wow, look at you Nemesis! You look great!" Natasha said, smiling broadly. You laughed and thanked her when you heard the other whistle and complimented you. "Not too stressed?" Bob asked as the others calmed down. "Well, it's the last show for at least six weeks. Iâll try to make it fun!" "Of course you will," said a voice you recognized immediately. "Hangman, you look good," you teased as you saw him appear on the screen. You noticed the slight blush on his cheeks as he spotted you in your dress and makeup. He didn't have time to reply that you had to go on stage. "Ok bye guys, gotta go, love you!" you hung up and had time to see a text message on your phone : 'You better keep that dress'. You smiled. You may have fallen in love with Jake, but you also knew you had him wrapped around your finger.
The show went smoothly, and after a celebratory dinner with your team, you went back to your soon-to-be-outdated apartment. All your things were packed and ready to go. You couldn't wait to move to San Diego. Your flight was at 3 pm in New York and you were scheduled to land in California at 6 pm. Bless the time zone difference, if you were lucky, you could get to the Hard Deck before the team and wait for them.
But since nothing ever goes exactly according to plan, your flight was an hour late. That wasn't too bad, you could still surprise them, you just had to change the way. You contacted Penny and asked her if she could manage to distract them. She agreed and gave you permission to use the back door to be more discreet when you entered. Your excitement was through the roof, you felt like a child on Christmas Day. By the time your cab reached the bar, your heart was pounding in your chest. You couldn't believe you were finally there, finally where you felt at home. But you had to be reunited with those you considered family to feel completely at home. You almost ran to the back door of the bar, re-reading the instructions Penny had sent you: she'd distract the Daggers by asking them to bring back some heavy beer packs and other beverages, and you could hide discreetly by the pool table.
The perfect plan.
You did as she said, a smile forming on your lips as you heard your friends in the distance. You were stressed, but not in an anxious way, you just couldn't wait. You picked up a pool cue to keep your hands busy. When you finally heard them coming, you bit the inside of your cheek to keep from screaming âsurprise!â. The first person to spot you was Mickey. His eyes widened and he stopped dead in his tracks, almost tripping Reuben, Natasha and Javy. They didn't have time to grumble before Mickey pointed at you, speechless. A small laugh escaped you as they froze in front of you, one after the other. Only Jake, Bradley and Robert were missing. Bradley and your twin were chatting, a little bit behind, and you soon heard Robert's voice.
"Are you guys okay? You look like you've seen a ghost..." His voice became almost inaudible at the end of his sentence, as he realized they were all staring at you. You smiled at them and tilted your head. "Are we playing, or are you afraid of losing?" you asked with a bit of a laugh. Natasha couldn't hold back her laughter and almost ran to hug you. "It's good to see you again, Mini Floyd."
The others came right after to greet you, hugging you and sometimes lifting you off the ground. You laughed, happy to see them again. Your twin was still frozen, not believing his eyes. You scooted up to him and pinched his cheeks. "Good evening Robby, did you-" You didn't even have time to finish your sentence before he pulled you into his arms. You smiled and hugged him as tightly as you could, small tears of joy escaping from both of you. "It's good to see you," he finally said, "Missed your stupid face.â "Oh I know you did, you can't live without me dearest brother !" you chuckled. You caught up with everyone, admitting that you were on a break, but not telling them that you were here for good. You wanted everyone to be here to make that announcement but someone was missing.
You paid for your round of beers - and sparkling water for Bob - and went looking for Jake. Why wasn't he here? Penny grinned as she noticed the look on your face. "Don't worry Y/N, he's just on the phone with his sister. One of his nephews' birthdays, I think." "Thanks Pen- Wait, what are you-" "I know everything dear, he talks too much for his own good if you ask the good questions." "How did you find out?" you whispered, making sure no one was listening. "Well, it wasn't really hard. Some of your interviews or shows have been aired," she pointed at the old TV, "and the calls you made ; he just had that look in his eyes. I can tell when a man is head over heels. He certainly is."
You blinked and shook your head in disbelief. Of course she'd guessed; Penny knew the squadron like her own children. She chuckled and handed you another beer. âGo surprise him.â You smiled and nodded, heading to the front door. Your heart fluttered when you finally heard Jakeâs voice. It was hushed but you could feel his smile through his soft laughter. You waited for him to end his call, still hidden by the door. You bit back a chuckle when you heard him saying goodbye to the kids with a baby voice. It was ridiculously adorable.
âHello stranger, does that pretty voice have a name ? âÂ
He was a bit startled and turned to you hastily, not believing his ears. A surprised expression appeared on his face, but a flirtatious smile quickly took its place. "That's my line, baby." "Oh really? Supposed I forgot," You grinned proudly and took a step towards him, "Did ya miss me, big boy?" He grinned and grabbed your waist, sending a sweet shiver down your spine. "Not as much as you missed me." You rolled your eyes in amusement and set the beer you had brought him aside. You took a moment to just drown in his green eyes, the light of the sunset making them look surreal. How could he be so handsome ?Â
He was quite speechless to have you here, it made you smile. Jake was always so talkative, it was strange to have him so quiet around you. "Cat got your tongue, Seresin?" He chuckled and stroked your cheek. "Why don't you check?" You smiled and finally kissed him. You had waited 8 months for this feeling and it was just so good. His soft lips against yours, his strong hands on your waist, fingers digging lightly into your flesh. You put your hands on his neck, parted your lips to let his tongue reach for yours. One of his hands slid up to cup your cheek and you leaned into his touch as the kiss ended. "I have to admit, I missed that," he whispered with a grin, his forehead pressed gently against yours. You huffed and rolled your eyes, "Told you I had you under my spell." He laughed and kissed the nape of your neck, holding you close. You smiled and stroked his hair before stepping back.  "Let's join the team before âTasha gets suspicious."
You took his hand and headed inside, eager to tell your friends the big news.
You missed the atmosphere of the Hard Deck. The soft songs from the jukebox, the always nice patrons, your favorite people at the pool table or playing darts... everything was so comforting. Your smile widened when you reached the Daggers, dragging Jake with you. "Look who I found outside," you teased, "good old Hangman.â "Ah, you should have let him out," Bradley sneered, sipping his beer. âReal funny Bradshaw, I know you already missed me.â
You let the two men fight like two children and when you noticed Natasha's eyes on your hand in Jake's, you blushed a little. She grinned and whispered something to Reuben. You could read a little 'damn it !' on his lips as he frowned. "Okay guys, Javy and I won! The bet is over!" "What? No!" Bradley was outraged. He grumbled and handed Natasha a bill. "Wait a minute, what bet?" your twin asked. "Well, my dear Bob, it seems that our little Jake and your sister... are together." You blushed and wanted to hide, not knowing how your brother would react. Jake was already arguing with Javy, telling him he was a traitor for betting on it, since he had confided in him on the subject.
"Oh, I've known for a while," Robert said simply with a smile. "What?!" you huffed, letting go of your boyfriend's hand to face your twin. "What do you mean you knew?" "Well, for starters, Jake stayed with you the night before you went back to New York. And you hid the hickey he left on your neck badly. Then I got suspicious when every time we ended our video calls, he got one in the next two minutes; and he's not the most discreet when he's on the phone. But I knew it when he bought that really nice necklace and asked me, of all people, for advice. A week later you were wearing it. So yeah, I knew," he shrugged with a smile, laughing a little at your expression. "What? I just thought that neither of you were ready to tell anyone? But you seem happy so it's okay."
You were surprised. You didn't think he'd take it so well, but you weren't going to complain.
So the evening began with a secret revealed. You didn't hesitate to stay close to Jake, even ending up on his lap when the bar was full. You listened to their adventures from the last few months - at least what they were allowed to share. It was good to be with them again, to find that comfort. After Mickey bought his round, he turned to you. "Well, let's ask the burning question: how long are you staying?" "To tell you the truth... I'm not leaving. I'm moving into my little house 10 minutes from here tomorrow," you smiled. "And you didn't tell me?!" said Jake and Bob at the same time, making them blush under the laughter of the others. "I wanted to surprise you! I've got a new deal with my label, so I can stay here." "Cheers to that! To the definitive return of Y/N Nemesis Floyd," Bradley decreed, raising his beer.
You all laughed and toasted each other, happy with the news.
All was finally well.
You had finally found your place, and you wouldn't change it for the world.
Coasting - Art Donaldson x Reader
BMX, a small beach town, a crappy waitressing job, & your last summer at home.
aka a cute little slowburn bmx art donaldson & reader fic. coming of age movie vibes. enjoy!!
word count: 5.2k
---
The clinking of glasses and plates and knives, the sound of the ocean, the drone of idle conversation, some obscure reggae playlist. Those were the sounds that you heard, day in and day out, soft in the background while you bussed tables and chatted with your best friend, Tashi Duncan. The sun was just about to set as you glided around High Tide, the hole-in-the-wall beach café you had waitressed at every summer since you could work. Right now, it was that weird lull in the late afternoon just before dinner.
Walking back behind the counter, you caught a glimpse of the camcorder in your bag you kept tucked away for when you got a spare moment. Tashi had been asking you all week to film another one of her BMX sessions. She was planning on posting itâshe always had something she wanted to showcase, whether it was a new trick, a new outfit, or just a good shot of her flying through the air. And you loved it. Capturing the way the light hit the steel of her bike as she soared, or the thrill on her face when she pulled off a trick, was second nature to you. Photography and videography were more than a hobby; they were a way for you to capture what felt like fleeting moments. Every shot you took seemed to tell a story, one you could hold onto for just a little longer.
Tashi nudged you from behind, her eyes glinting with excitement as she stepped up to the counter. "So, I was thinking," she began, not even giving you a chance to greet her before she jumped into her idea. "Maybe we could shoot something tomorrow?"
You smiled, folding some cutlery into a napkin. âYou're telling me I should use my precious weekend to watch you flip around on a bike for hours?â
âI'll buy you that weird coconut ice cream you like!â
You didn't really need the incentive, this had been your routine pretty much every summer: work, gossip, shoot Tashi and whoever else of your friends happened to be at the park. You tried not to dwell on the fact that it was your last summer at home, that this wouldn't ever be routine again.
"It's not that weird. And yeah, sounds fun."
"I'll pick you up at 1!"
Just as you were about to respond, the cafĂ© door swung open, the bell above it jingling. The dinner crowd was starting to filter inâlocals, some touristsâand the BMX guys you hung around during the summer. Despite you only really knowing how to ride a bike for transportation reasons, this was the group you inadvertently fell into. And they seemed to like you, or at least your camera. Or Tashi. Or High Tide. They all waltzed in, laughing about something, clapping each other on their shoulders, a cloud of sand and summer air (and probably weed) following them inside.
Art Donaldson, the lanky BMX prodigy of the town, and your crush since he sat next to you in your math class sophomore year, was always one of the last ones to join the group. His presence was unmistakable, but it was his quiet nature that made him stick out even more. He didn't rush into the room with the same energy as his best friend Patrick Zweig or the others; he just slipped in like a shadow, calm and observant.
Patrick, being Patrick, immediately spotted you. He raised a hand and waved, his grin wide and mischievous. âHey, look whoâs still working,â he said, his voice cutting through the hum of the cafĂ©.
You laughed, moving towards the front of the counter to take their order. Patrick continued to talk, rambling about something inconsequential, but you caught a brief flicker of a glance from Art when your eyes met his.
You quickly turned your attention back to Patrick. âWhat can I get for you guys?â you asked, trying to ignore the way your pulse quickened.
Tashi, who had quietly watched the interaction from behind the counter, leaned in slightly as she adjusted the straps of her helmet. âYouâve been staring at him all summer,â she whispered, her voice a mix of teasing and curiosity.
âStop,â you said quickly, though the heat in your cheeks betrayed you. âIâm notâheâs just⊠you know. Art.â
Tashi raised an eyebrow. âUh-huh. Art, who you're in love with.â She said the word love in a sing-song voice, and you had to fight to suppress your smile and roll your eyes.
âOkay. I have to go put this order in. And I'm not in love with him.â
Tashi grinned knowingly. âMhm. Youâre just avoiding it.â
Before you could argue further, you moved toward the kitchen to get their drinks ready, and you couldnât help but notice Art again. He stood with his back to the counter, his hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie, looking out at the fading light through the large windows that lined the cafĂ©, absently listening to the mindless conversation of his friends. As if he could sense you staring, he turned around, grinning sheepishly and running a hand through his hair when you made eye contact. You sent back a flushed smile and a small wave before pivoting on your heel and promptly hiding in the kitchen.
âChill, youâre fine,â you muttered under your breath, grabbing a tray of drinks to deliver to the table.
When you returned to the counter, Art and the guys were settling into their usual booth by the window, the sun casting a golden glow on everything outside. Art had his back to you, but you could feel his presence, even from across the room.
Tashi, ever the observant one, nudged you with her elbow, making you jump. âSo, how was that look I just saw? You freaking out now?â
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â you said quickly, focusing on the drinks you were preparing, trying to ignore her smirk.
âYou looked like you were about to burst into flames.â Tashiâs voice was soft, but you could hear the humor behind it.
You rolled your eyes again but couldnât stop the small smile tugging at your lips. Tashi had been in your corner about Art from the start. She was the one who encouraged you to ask him for photos back when you first picked up a camera and realized how much you enjoyed capturing moments. Ever since then, Art had been the subject of most of your best shots. And the subject of some of your best memories, too. You rarely hung out with him one-on-one, but whenever you were in a group setting, he had this way of making you feel included. And a way of making you feel like you and him were the only two people there.
âOkay,â Tashi pressed, leaning a little closer. âSo, are we pretending that Artâs not going to ask you out or are we just gonna let you guys keep doing the whole will-they-won't-they thing?â
You shot her a look. âIâm not doing this right now.â
She raised her hands in mock surrender, but you could see the teasing glint still in her eyes. âFine, fine, Iâll let you have your mystery.â
You glanced back toward the booth where Art and the crew were talking, trying to focus on anything else. Art had settled into his usual relaxed postureâarms stretched out along the back of the booth, a faint smile on his lips as Patrick animatedly told another story. He was always so laid-back, but there was a certain warmth about him that you couldnât ignore. And it wasnât just his presenceâit was the way he was with his friends, how he listened when they talked, how he had a way of making even the smallest moment feel special.
Your phone buzzed, breaking your trance. You glanced at the screenâTashi texting you details for tomorrow's shoot followed by about a million incoherent and entirely unrelated emojis.
You chuckled to yourself, making a mental note to set the alarm early and get the camera ready. As you were typing out a response, you heard a soft voice from behind you.
âHey, you busy?â Artâs voice was low, and even though you hadnât expected him to approach, it didnât startle you.
You turned to find him standing just behind the counter, the light from the window casting a warm glow around his silhouette. His presence was effortlessly calm, like he was just... there. Not demanding anything from you, but still managing to make your heart beat a little faster.
âNot too busy,â you replied, looking up at him. âJust the usual.â
He nodded, his lips quirking into a small, easy smile. âI meant to ask earlier,â he said, his hands in his pockets as he leaned a little closer to the counter, âYou free tomorrow afternoon?â
Your heart skipped a beat, and you quickly recovered by glancing at Tashi, who was pretending to be busy but clearly trying not to watch the conversation unfold.
âIâm filming for Tashi tomorrow, actually,â you replied, trying to sound casual, but there was that flutter in your chest again. "Why?"
Art raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. âI was gonna ask if you wanted to go get something to eat. But, uh, I'm going to that place on the pier with the onion rings later if you want to come."
There it was. The simplest, calmest invitation that could have easily been overlooked by anyone else. But for you, it felt like the universe had just delivered exactly what you wanted without any fanfare. He wasnât overthinking it, wasnât being mysterious. He was just... asking.
âYeah, I could do that,â you said, a smile tugging at the corners of your mouth. âYou remember the onion rings?â
Artâs smile widened ever so slightly, and you could swear there was a spark of somethingâmaybe relief, maybe happinessâflickering in his eyes. He didn't answer your question. Instead, he said, âIâll meet you around six?â
âSix sounds good,â you said, nodding back. He gave you one last smile before turning back to the table.
You had always had some constants in your life. You had photography, you had High Tide, you had Tashi, and you had onion rings. Your favorite place on the pier, one of those old Airstream trailers that had been converted into a restaurant. You were caught off-guard when Art mentioned it. You'd gone with him a few times, and he had listened to your rants about the onion rings. But it wasn't usually just the two of you. But he remembered. Your head was kind of spinning.
Tashi nudged out of your trance, this time with a full-on grin. âSee? I told you it was only a matter of time.â
You rolled your eyes, but the smile that spread across your face betrayed you. âYeah, yeah," you said, trying (and failing) to sound unaffected.
---
The pier was quiet when you and Art finally made your way there, the ocean stretching endlessly in front of you, the sound of the waves crashing softly against the shore. The sky had faded into a deep indigo, stars just beginning to twinkle above. The scent of salt and fried food mixed in the air as you approached the little Airstream that had been serving the best comfort food on the coast for as long as you could remember.
It felt different tonight, though. More peaceful. More... effortless. Just the two of you, walking side by side with no real rush.
You stood in line while Art ordered, the woman behind the window grinning knowingly as she handed him the takeout bag. âGot a feeling youâd be back for more,â she joked, but Art just shrugged in his usual, easy way.
âCouldnât help it,â he said with a quiet smile, turning to you. âYou were right about these. Itâs hard to stay away.â
You gave him a small grin, feeling the pull of his attention in a way you hadnât before. He wasnât rushing to fill the silence, just existing in it. It wasnât awkward. It wasnât forced. It was... easy.
You walked over to a bench by the edge of the pier and sat down, both of you leaning back as you opened the bag and pulled out your share of the food. The breeze from the ocean was cool against your skin, the faint hum of the waves blending with the distant chatter of people further down the pier.
âSo,â you said after a few moments of comfortable silence, breaking into the food, âhowâve you been?â
Art glanced sideways at you, his gaze thoughtful. âBusy. Same old. You?â
âSame here. Just, you know, work. With Tashi and all.â You paused, then added, âTrying not to get too much sand in the camera.â
He smiled softly, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and for a moment, you both just shared a quiet laugh. It wasnât an elaborate joke, but it was real. Like this moment, with him, was real.
You took another bite and leaned back into the bench, stretching your legs out in front of you, your feet tucked into your sneakers. The sun had set a while ago, but the horizon was still glowing faintly, like the world had been painted in colors you could never quite capture. The stars were scattered above like a thousand tiny little secrets.
Art was quiet for a while, his gaze out on the ocean as he ate, but you werenât uncomfortable. It felt like the kind of silence you could just sink into, where you didnât need to fill every moment with words, because you both understood that sometimes, not speaking was the most honest thing you could do.
âI didnât think youâd ask me out here,â you said suddenly, the words just slipping out. It was a little vulnerable, a little self-conscious, but you couldnât take it back now.
Art glanced over at you, his lips curving into that smile of his. âWhy not?â
You shrugged, feeling the heat rise to your face. âI donât know. Youâre always... with your friends. I just thought youâd be busy.â
He paused, chewing for a second before he answered, his tone more serious than you expected. âI donât like being busy just to be busy.â
There was something in the way he said it, a depth behind his words that made you look at him a little differently. You couldnât quite place it, but something about the way he approached lifeâso calm, so deliberate, but still presentâwas unlike anyone else youâd ever known.
âI get that,â you said, nodding, your voice quieter now. âItâs good to slow down sometimes.â
Art met your eyes, and for a second, you both just held the moment, neither of you needing to say anything more. It was a connection. And it was simple, but it was there. And for once, neither of you was trying to rush through it.
âDid you always know youâd be here this summer?â he asked suddenly, breaking the silence again.
You tilted your head, considering it. âI donât think I ever really thought about it, to be honest. Itâs just... always been this way, you know?â
He nodded slowly, his gaze drifting out to the water. âYeah, I get it."
For a moment, you both looked out at the ocean, the rhythm of the waves syncing with the calm in the air around you. It felt easy, almost like this was what you were supposed to be doing all along. Not rushing anywhere, just sharing space, sharing time.
âMaybe we should do this more often,â you said lightly, breaking the quiet.
Art gave you a half-smile, his eyes soft but content. âI think Iâd like that.â
You were about to say something else when he spoke again, his tone almost shy. âYou know, Iâm glad you said yes. I wasnât sure if...â
You raised an eyebrow. âIf Iâd show up?â
He nodded, his expression a mix of self-deprecating humor and honesty. âYeah. Figured you had better things to do than hang out with me.â
You could feel the weight of his words, the quiet vulnerability behind them. You didnât know exactly what was going on in his head, but you could tell he didnât often put himself out there like this.
You smiled softly, nudging him with your elbow. âYou donât have to worry about that. I like spending time with you.â
The words hung in the air between you two for a long beat. Then Artâs gaze softened, and he gave you a small but genuine smile, the kind that made you feel like everything had just fallen into place in a way it hadnât before.
The conversation drifted back into the easy flow of a summer night, small talk about random things, your voices low and comfortable, as the sounds of the ocean and the soft rustling of the wind filled the space around you. The food was forgotten for a moment, but neither of you minded.
And just like that, the evening felt like its own quiet, perfect thing. Unspoken, but understood.
---
The park was quieter than usual for a Saturday, the afternoon crowd still drifting in, some starting their warm-up routines, others talking or laughing with friends.
You watched Tashi land a clean trick and, almost instinctively, your fingers adjusted the camera settings. It was easy to focus on herâher energy contagious, her confidence enough to keep you grounded as you clicked away. BMX was her thing, and capturing her in motion was like catching fire in a bottle. But today, there was something different in the air, something just outside of your control.
You could feel it in the way the park seemed to have shifted, in the way Art stood off to the side, half-listening to his friends, half-distracted. His presence was subtle, but it always demanded attention, like the way the ocean would silently pull you in, its waves irresistible.
The moment you caught his eye across the park, you knew it wasnât just the cameraâs lens that had you transfixed. You could feel the weight of his gaze from where you stood, like a soft pressure against your chest. The smile he gave you was small, but it lingered longer than it should have, a quiet acknowledgment of something unspoken.
But you didnât acknowledge itânot right away. Instead, you turned back to Tashi, adjusting the angle of the camera, trying to stay in the moment.
âEverything okay?â Tashi called out, leaning against the metal frame of her bike, pulling her helmet off. Her voice was playful, but there was a note of curiosity beneath it, like she could feel the shift in the air too.
âYeah,â you muttered, forcing your focus back on her. âJust... taking a shot.â
She raised an eyebrow, but before she could tease you, she was back in motion. You clicked the shutter again, the camera capturing her effortless flow, but your mind was elsewhere. Or more precisely, on him.
You knew Tashi could sense it, too. She knew you better than anyone, after all. There was a tension in the air now, thick and palpable, something that neither of you could ignore. Everyone could see itâthe way you and Art kept glancing at each other when you thought no one was watching, the way conversations seemed to stretch between you two, lingering with things unsaid. But neither of you was willing to break that unspoken boundary. Not yet.
It wasnât like there was a clear moment that everything shifted. It was more like the tide slowly pulling at the shore, little by little, until you were both standing in a place where you couldnât deny it anymore.
You were snapping a few more shots of Tashi when you felt that familiar presence. The subtle shift in the atmosphere. It was Art, crossing the park toward you with that lazy, effortless stride, like he didnât have a care in the world. Except you both knew better. There was a quiet intensity that always followed him, an unspoken thing between you that neither of you seemed eager to disrupt.
But you both knew what was there. You knew the way he looked at you when he thought no one was watching, the way your pulse quickened when your eyes met his across the crowd. Neither of you was saying it out loud, but it was thereâslowly building, like the tide rolling in, too soft to resist.
Tashi glided back over, cutting through the silence with her usual exuberance. âOkay, okay, now I want you to take a picture of me and Art together!â she said, flashing a grin at you.
The moment shattered, and you tried to hide your smile behind the camera. But you felt itâArtâs glance, lingering just a fraction of a second longer than normal, like he was holding onto something he didnât quite know how to say.
Tashi noticed, of course. She was always the first one to notice when something shifted. âYou know,â she murmured, nudging you, âIâm starting to think you two are the only ones who donât see whatâs going on.â
You rolled your eyes, though the warm flush on your cheeks gave you away. âPlease,â you muttered. âWeâre just friends.â
Tashi didnât even try to hide the grin as she took her place in front of you. âMmhmm. Just friends.â
Art, standing just off to the side, offered a quiet chuckle. But there was a softness in his gaze when it found yours. No teasing. Just that same quiet, undeniable connection.
The shoot went on, the shots flowing one after the other. But all you could focus on was the way Artâs presence never quite left your periphery, the way every glance, every quiet word, seemed to say so much more than you both wanted to admit.
---
The night ended like most of your Saturdays: a kickback on the beach, surrounded by the familiar buzz of friends, tourists, and transplants. Red solo cups were scattered around like confettiâsome with liquor, others with cheap beer, a few spiked lemonades. Somewhere in the mix, a joint was being passed around, its faint smoke drifting lazily into the night air.
You were curled up against Tashi, your head resting on her shoulder, the two of you passing a bottle of hard seltzer back and forth. The conversations around you faded into a pleasant hum, the guys off in the distance trying to start a bonfire that seemed doomed from the start, their loud banter drifting over the sand. The air was warm, the waves crashed softly in the distance and everything felt easy.
The sun had long dipped below the horizon, and now the only light came from the flickering remnants of the sunset and the scattered bonfire embers. You and Tashi drifted into one of those easy, low-stakes conversations, the kind where you talked about nothing and everything at once.
But then, as always, you found your eyes wandering. You scanned the beach for Art. It wasnât conscious, it just happenedâyour gaze always seemed to gravitate toward him.
Tashiâs lips twitched into a knowing smile, and without missing a beat, she gently nudged her shoulder against your head, nudging you out of your quiet reverie.
"You should go sit with him," she said, her voice soft but insistent. It wasnât teasing like it normally wouldâve beenâit was more like an invitation. A little nudge toward something she could see that you hadnât quite admitted to yourself yet.
"I can't," you muttered, pulling the bottle of seltzer up to your lips, avoiding her eyes for just a second too long.
"Yes, you can," she replied, her voice so confident that you couldnât help but meet her gaze.
You hesitated, caught between the pull of her words and the uncertainty creeping up from your chest. "What ifâ"
Tashi cut you off, lifting her chin and pointing toward Art, who was leaning against a nearby palm tree, looking out at the ocean, seemingly lost in thought but still aware of the group around him.
âGo,â she said simply, a knowing smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
And in that moment, with the warmth of her encouragement surrounding you, you knew she was right. You could go. You should go.
With a sigh, you pushed yourself up from her shoulder, the sand shifting beneath you. The bottle of seltzer was still in your hand, but now it felt like an anchor you didnât need anymore. The noise of the group around you faded as you started to move, your heart beating a little faster, a little louder, as you took that first step toward Art.
As you reached him, you stopped a little closer than you usually would, just within his reach, your eyes meeting his. He looked down at you, a flicker of surprise flashing through his gaze before he quickly masked it with that usual, easy smile of his.
"Hey," you said, the word feeling like it was the first one youâd said all night.
"Hey," Art answered back, his voice a little lower than usual, almost like he was aware of the space between you two in a way you hadnât noticed before. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah," you said with a small shrug. "Just wanted to say hi."
"Hi." His gaze was soft, and you could hear the smile in his voice.
You smiled back, the air between you two thick with all the things neither of you had said yet. The tension was palpable, and for a moment, neither of you knew how to cut through it.
Before you could say anything else, Patrickâs voice rang out across the beach.
"Night swim!!"
He was grinning wide, his energy infectious, as he waved his arms dramatically. This was a common occurrence, and you and Art rolled your eyes simultaneously. Like clockwork, Patrick demanded everyone jump into any nearby body of water at almost every party or kickback.
And the group erupted into motionâlaughter, whoops, and the sound of sandals slapping against the sand as everyone ran toward the water, shouting and teasing each other about who would jump in first.
You and Art found each other's gaze again, and he reached for your hand, fingers brushing against yours in that familiar, electric way that sent a jolt through your body. Without waiting for you to process, he gently tugged you toward the water, the sound of the waves now loud and inviting in the distance.
You grinned in agreement, your heart pounding in your chest. You weren't a stranger to the Patrick Zweig Night Swim, but you usually made your way into the water with Tashi. This was all new to you (but very welcome).
The two of you kicked up sand in your wake, laughing and picking up your pace, hands grasping each other tightly except to remove various articles of clothing. You tried not to stare at his toned chest and arms, the tan on his skin, the faint freckles across his shoulders.
You tugged your hoodie over your head, leaving you in your bikini just as you felt your toes hit the water.
The ocean stretched out in front of you, dark and welcoming. You hesitated for just a second, the water a cool, inviting unknown.
Art grinned, glancing at you quickly. "You good?"
"I guess so." You laughed.
With that, you both stepped into the surf, the water crashing around your feet as you waded deeper, the chill of the ocean wrapping around your ankles and calves. The night was filled with the sounds of your friends behind you, all of them laughing and splashing, but it was you and Art that seemed to drift away from the chaos, wading out further into the deeper water together.
As the water rose higher, up to your thighs, you turned to face him, feeling the cool waves tug at you both.
âYou sure this is a good idea?â you teased, eyes meeting his, your voice light but the tension still there, coiled between you two. The quiet hum of the waves seemed to settle around you.
Artâs smile faltered just slightly, like he didnât know how to answer, or maybe he didnât need to. His eyes flickered down to where the water had soaked your top, redness creeping up his neck.
"Yeah," he replied, his voice suddenly quieter, more serious. â'S a good idea.â
There was something in the way he said it, a soft edge to his words that made your heart beat a little faster and your head buzz, like you were drunk (but not from the seltzer).
You stepped a little closer, the saltwater lapping at your knees, the light from the beach just far enough to make everything feel like a dreamâbeautiful and fleeting.
For a second, everything between you two hung in the air. Then, as if on instinct, Art took a half step closer, his breath warm against your cheek as he brushed a damp strand of hair from your face.
"Can I kiss you?"
And despite the cold water, your face grew impossibly warmer as you nodded.
And then, almost without warning, Art leaned in, his lips finding yours in a kiss that was as slow as the waves but as powerful as the pull of the ocean itself.
For that instant, everything fadedâthe noise from the beach, the cold of the water, the summer air, and all you could focus on was the warmth of his lips, the gentle pressure of his hands on your body, the way he seemed to breathe life into you with each movement. It wasnât rushed, wasnât frantic. His hands couldn't seem to decide where they wanted to rest, slowly moving from your waist to the nape of your neck. You could feel his smile in the kiss, and he could feel yours. It was all teeth and noses and salt and sand and the occasional laugh and it was perfect.
The coolness of the water lapping at your skin was nothing compared to the heat running through you. Your heart raced, your breath short as you kissed him back, your hands finding their place on his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
When you pulled back just enough to breathe, you both stayed close, foreheads touching, your hands still tangled together in the water. Artâs face was flushed, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he looked at you with that same soft, almost shy expression.
"I really like you," he muttered, the words just slipping out, and his flustered grin made you laugh, a little breathless.
"Yeah?" you teased, your fingers still tangled with his. "I really like you too."
Art glanced away briefly, the blush deepening, but he didnât let go of your hand.
For a moment, neither of you said anything more. Just standing there in the quiet of the night, with the water around you and the stars above. Yeah, it was your last summer here, but everything with Art made you realize how things weren't really ending at all.
Love story - yandere ticci toby x reader chapter 1
cw: stalking, obsessive behaviour, graphic depictions of violence (no shit), and Toby being a total freaky weirdo. Not explicit non-con yet.
No good deed ever goes unpunished. One late night trip to a convenience store you decide to help a man who knocks over some cans. Toby can't get his mind off you, now. And when he finally finds something that helps him get his mind off the raging in his head and the operators grasp on him, he won't let it go.
AKA. Toby is delusional, horny, and totally obsessed with you. Without further adieu... with a horrendous word count of 4000+....
Chapter 1: Meet cute
To say toby had no idea when his infatuation with you started would be a lie, he knew exactly when it started. He knew it down to the hour, the minute, the second. How could he forget the moment he met you after all? It was like a romance, one of those rom-com meet cutes. His own sappy love story with his own perfectly happy ending.
It was a cold night, he couldn't precisely remember the time, sure, but he knew the stars were up in the sky, and that it was the midst of winter as there was snow dusting the ground. Colorado's winters were cold - and as it was cold, Toby got stuck with doing the supply runs. As was apparently "fair". Because of his CIPA he couldn't feel cold (or heat), which meant any time the weather conditions were slightly less-than desirable it was his job to go half-buy half-shoplift the food the mansions residents needed for the next few days. At least, those that didn't eat human flesh.
Not that he really minded. He'd take any chance he could to get out of the mansion for a while, taking Tim's car - an old beaten up Land Rover they had stolen from a victim years ago - and speeding along the highways to the nearest store. Well, not speeding. He was always cautious in cars - he had his reasons.
And it was in one of those convenience stores where he first saw you, memory engraved into his mind forevermore.
You were beautiful that was for sure. Specks of snow sprinkled over your hair and face, light glinting off them as you made your way into the store, still shivering from the cold as you stopped in you tracks, soaking in the sudden warmth. The harsh lighting just seemed to frame you, like a halo of sorts, a spotlight sending his attention screaming to you. He couldn't tear his eyes away. Something about you distracted him, If just for a second, from the chaos in his head. The voices and the constant war of emotions died down, to make room for a new emotion. One he hadn't felt in years.
Love.
Toby knew it was love - what else could it be? His heart was pounding in his chest, he felt giddy with what must be affection as he stared at you. He wasn't used to the feeling, but what he knew was it was better than any temporary high his missions could give him, sharp as an axe and twice the rush.
You must have noticed his staring, because by the time he came to his senses and focused again you had met his gaze, head tilted with a nervous half-smile on your perfect face. He had made you smile. A nervous one, but yet a smile, nonetheless.
A sharp crack sounded as his neck jerked, bringing him screeching back to reality, breaking the eye contact and bringing his gaze down to his poorly bandaged hands. Oh, how he wished he dressed better.
He hadn't even bothered to throw on a bandage on his face to cover his gash, instead opting for a single-use blue face mask Jack had lying around. The hoodie he was donned had thumb holes ripped into the cuffs, and he hoped like hell it wasn't one of the ones with obnoxious blood stains. He couldnât see any on the front, but he would not put it past him to somehow have some sprayed on his back, he got pretty.. Brutal when in the zone.
The next time he looked back to you, you were bent over a little, looking down at some energy drinks. He allowed his eyes to drift over you, taking in everything. Before he could take out his phone and take a photo - not in a strange way, of course, just to remember the occasion - he ticced. At the most inconvenient time possible, naturally. 'Birdie!' he chirped out, followed by a bird whistle, which sent you looking behind yourself in startled confusion, and Toby's gaze to his hands once again.
He continued skirting around you for the next minute or so, before it happened. He was kneeled down, looking at the drinks you were looking at before, imagining sharing one with you, hands brushing each otherâs. Toby could finish it in one gulp, seeing you pout, then cup your face and kiss it into your mouth, watching you squeal and close your eyes, lean into him. Some might argue this was too soon, or strange to imagine, but Toby knew it wasn't. He was in love with you, after all, so it was normal.
He was brought out of those pleasant daydreams by a loud clatter, looking down. He'd knocked some drinks off the shelf.
"Fuh-fuck." he cursed quietly
He reached down to fetch them, but someone got to it first - you got to it first. Your hands were so small as they picked it up, he wanted to cup them in his hands and kiss them, feel your soft skin against his own, callous and scarred.
"Th-thanks" he muttered, looking down at you again as he rose up to his full hight, a few inches taller than you are. "S-sorry about that, I have tour- wow! - Touretteâs. I have Touretteâs."
"It's fine" you gave a little smile, nervously picking at your hands. "Don't worry about it."
The first thing that struck him was your voice. It was.. Perfect. It suited you perfectly. He wanted to play it on loop, set it as his ringtone, his new favourite song.
The second? You didn't judge him for his Touretteâs. Of course, you didn't, you were perfect. You were made for him; you wouldn't judge him for anything like that. You weren't like anybody else. He wanted then more than anything to take you in his arms right there, lift you up and take you back to the mansion, to his room, hide you from the rest of the world, have you all to himself. Instead, he waited behind you at the checkout, taking in the faint smell of you, trying to keep a handle on his ticcing and twitching, at least when you were there.
When it was his turn he barely looked at the cashier, slapping a wad of cash on the table and watching him sort through it, bowing his head a little under tobies harsh gaze, snatching the change as soon as it was handed to him. He couldn't lose you, let you get too far, he had to keep track of you.
He tracked you like he would a victim, trailing behind you in the Land Rover, just far behind enough you wouldn't register it, a few cars back. He followed you to an apartment block, parking across the road, watching as you exited the car, oblivious to the eyes of your future lover trailing you.
Thankfully for him you were on the first floor, obvious from the way light visible in one of the windows turned on a few seconds after you entered the building. He made a mental note of the room you stayed in and pulled out from the car park, making his way back to the mansion. It would be suspicious if he came back too late. He would come back for you, though. He had to.
And that he did. He started with simple things, waiting outside the apartment for you to leave and trailing you, learning your routines, your most visited locations, anything about you he could pick up. You liked to read, adorable. He would love to read with you, having your tiny form on his lap, book in hand, resting against him. But until then he would settle for entering the bookstore after you, trailing his hands over the shelves he knew you touched.
It was through this book-store that he finally found your name. His lovers name. He was skulking around the shelves just out of your view, watching you, and occasionally taking a quick photo, with the new phone he had recently brought. More modern than the last one - not just because he needed a better one to film you with, but the decent camera really didn't hurt.
 Not in a creepy, stalker way of course. He was sure if he sat down and asked you, you really wouldn't mind.
"Oh, Sidney!" You called, waving to a girl at the counter. You knew her? "Hey!"
"Oh, hey [Y/N]."
[Y/N]. That was your name. His [Y/N], soon to be [Y/N] Rogers. He felt giddy with delight.
He didn't stop there, either. As time passed, as he memorised your routine, the shitty movie theatre you worked at, your favourite stores and cafĂ©'s and places to be, he started to know when you would and wouldn't be in your apartment. And what good proxy didnât know how to lockpick?
Your apartment smelt like you, that was the first thing that struck him. A light, airy sort of scent, that he just couldn't get enough of. He found himself leaning down, opening a drawer and taking a long sniff. It looked like mostly fresh laundry, hoodies and shorts.
He had time; he knew that much. You wouldn't return from your job at that crappy local movie theatre for at least another 3 hours. It was a decent enough job, he supposed, though his skin crawled at the thought of you getting hit on or yelled at by customers. He had had half a mind to follow you and wait just outside, to give anyone who gave you a hard time or even looked at you funny a piece of his mind. He refrained, for now however, deciding instead to make the most of his time and spending it getting as close to you as physically possible. Speaking of close..
As he rummaged through your drawers, he came across one with more.. Intimate content. Underwear, it looked like. Your underwear. He reached his hands into the dresser, taking out a bra almost reverently. This had touched your skin, and not just your skin. Your breasts. He was indirectly touching your breasts. His face was burning and his heart was pounding as he held it, grinning so wide it would have hurt if he could feel pain.
He set it back down in the drawer as another thing caught his eye, what looked like a matching set. Lacy black panties and a skimpy black bra. He hadn't imagine you'd own something like that, but he wasn't complaining. Quite the opposite in fact. He'd ask you to wear it for him when you two were together, but for now, his imagination would suffice. He stuffed a pair of panties he was sure you wouldn't miss into your pocket, and turned to look at the rest of the room.
Over the next week or so, he made himself at home when you weren't there. It was as if he was your lover, your live in boyfriend. He used your toothbrush, laid in your bed, next to where you would lay, imagining your sleeping form lying next to his. He 'borrowed' your clothes and rummaged through your bins, and even killed those racoons that had been raiding your bins for you. He did feel a little bad for the beasts, but anything that inconvenienced his love could not be tolerated.Â
As a testament to his own self-control, he managed to prevent himself from hiding in your closet and watching you sleep for the majority of the days, no matter how tempting it was. That was, until, you tripped and hurt your ankle on the way to work. And since he could hardly pick you up and kiss you and take care of you, he would do the next best thing. Stick around and make sure you were okay.
That was all he was doing, he told himself, as he shut the door on himself, leaving a good 30 minute window for you to get back. He was being a good boyfriend.
The closet wasn't quite spacious by any means, but he fit fine, If his legs were bent at a weird angle. What did it matter? It wasn't as if he could feel them cramping, and even if he could, it would be worth it to be so close to his beloved. Perhaps it was stupid, reckless. What if he ticced and alerted you? What if you ran, or called the police? Nevertheless love clouded over his logic and better judgement, and so he stayed.
He was euphoric when you got back, not even casting a glance at the usually empty closet. He peered through the gap in the door with wide, enraptured eyes as you continued your daily routine. He stayed staring as you sat on your laptop, and especially as you changed into more comfortable clothes, facing directly at him. It was hard to tell whether the pounding of his heart in his throat and his shaking hands as he took the phone out were nerves at the thought of being seen, or excitement at seeing you so bare in front of him, in just your underwear.
When he felt the tightness in his pants, he decided it was the latter.
              -o0o-
Over the next few days, he became a regular in your closet too. Spending the night in the mansion became a rarity that he only happened to do when he came back from a late night mission and needed a shower and change of clothes. He preferred being with you, of course, no one enjoys being away from their partner.
The winter was fading by the time he worked up the balls to talk to you again. You were at work in the movie theatre, and he decided he would visit you. He would charm you, and ask you for your number, he had it all planned out.
He donned the best clothing he could find in his closet - a Black turtleneck instead of his usual scrappy hoodies, some trousers, he'd shined his boots, and even worn some cologne! He'd stolen it from a victim previously, and until now, he never had a reason to wear it. He gave himself one last cursory glance in the mirror on the way out, checking his hair wasn't as unruly as usual and that his gash was covered, and left.
The movie theatre wasn't too busy, he was relieved to see. There were only two people on cashier duty, you, and another girl. Most people were in her queue, he noted. She looked pretty, he supposed that was the reason why.
Idiots. Why even look at her when they could be blinded by the perfection that was you? Although, internally he was glad really. Less competition.
He tried to seem as casual as possible as he strode in, taking his place in your line, behind what looked like a young couple. How ironic, Toby thought, that he was behind a couple. That was what they were about to be. In love, holding hands, giving each other knowing glances and kisses on the cheeks.
When it was his turn, he walked up to you, jerking his neck and giving a nervous smile, trying and failing to seem like some confident heartthrob.
"Oh, hey, I know you" You spoke, returning his smile. You remembered him. Had you been thinking about him too? "You're uh.. Convenience store guy, right?"
 "Y-yeah, that's me. Hey."
"Hey" If you continued smiling like that at him he might just turn into mush in front of you. "What can I get for ya?"
"Oh, uh.." He looked up at the digital signage showing the movies on, deciding on some generic looking horror movie "H-howâs 'The - wow! - the Blackcoats daughter'?"
"One ticket for the Blackcoats, alright. Anything else I can get for you sir?"
"Muh-my names Toby, not sir" He stuttered out, earning a little laugh from you that made his heart soar "One B-bucket of popcorn please? L-large"
"That was horrible. I'm [Y/N]. " you respond, before you turn around, perfect hair swishing behind you as you start to fill up a box of popcorn for him. Now was his chance. C'mon Toby, c'mon- She remembered him, she must like him too.
"O-oh, and I forgot one - birdie - one thing."
"Hm?" You turn and face him again
"c-could I get your number? To g-go." He gave you the most charming smile he could muster, though It most likely ended up looking like a begging puppy, desperate for a treat.
You were surprised for a second, blinking a couple of times, before he could see your face flush the prettiest pink you'd ever seen, opening your mouth for a second, searching for a response. You seemed flustered - he made you flustered. God, you were so cute it made him ache. "W-well, sure, do you want me to write it down, or..?"
"I-I have a phone, hang on" He fished his phone out of his pocket, quickly checking his photos app was shut. It would be unfortunate if you saw just how much he adored you quite yet.
You took the phone and typed it in, naming your contact '[Y/N] :)', before handing the phone back. As he took it, your fingers brushed his, and he could of sworn he felt actual electricity pass through you, fingertips tingling where he left yours.
He sent a little text 'Hi, it's toby :)' to test you hadn't given him the wrong number by mistake, smiling even wider when your phone gave an affirmative chime, his bandage over his mouth crinkling a little.
"T-thanks" He managed, sure his voice sounded positively giddy with delight.
"No problem" You smiled back at him "Have a good view!"
He took his ticket and popcorn, and in his excitement, strode out of the movie theatre entirely, forgetting the movie he'd brought. His head was far too full of thoughts of his beloved.
     -o0o-
As much as he longed to spend another night with you, that day he had a mission to attend to. It didn't dampen his mood however, he didn't think anything could. He got your number. You liked him! You had to, why else would you give it to him? He was so excited he was practically vibrating.
He swung one of his hatchets over his shoulder, practically skipping down the hall and out the door to where Tim and Brian were waiting to murk some oblivious camper who had decided to set up camp in the forest.
"Someone's in a good mood" Tim spoke with his southern drawl, flicking his cigarette butt onto the forest floor and crushing it with the heel of his boot, before taking his mask and covering his face fully once again, letting out a tired sigh. He was one of the few proxies who didn't take much joy in killing.
Toby just nodded. He sure was.
Brian was silent, striding ahead of them, presumably in the direction of their latest victims. His AK-47 strapped to his back, and the baclava with the odd looking frown already donned.
"Hoodies frontin'" Tim spoke, explaining the silence from the man, as he followed along. Hoodie was generally non-verbal, so it didn't surprise him.
Toby had trouble concentrating, on the walk to the campsite. His mind kept drifting to you. More than once Tim had caught him taking his phone out and glancing at the screen. He was just checking if you'd responded to his text, even though he assumed you wouldn't until your shift was over.
"Waiting for somethin'?" Tim spoke, briefly pausing his walk to look at Toby
"Nuh-nothing."
Their short interaction was interrupted by Hoodie holding his hand up to silence them, pointing to a tent in the woods a little way ahead of them. It looked to be a family of three. A father, a daughter, and a Wife. All easy enough targets, no visible weapons save for the pen-knife on one of the logs. That wouldn't be even close to a match for one of them, let alone all three.
"We'll each take one" Tim said, breaking the silence, earning a nod from Hoodie and a 'yep' from Toby. It was go time.
Toby started to walk over slowly, before stopping, just before they noticed him, wet leaves making soft sounds under his feet. He readied his hatchet, holding it behind his head. Three, two, one..
Thwack.
The hatchet landed where he wanted it with a wet thud, buried halfway through the mans forearm. Sure, he could have gone for the head, but he hardly felt like a quick kill. He needed a way to vent out all his excitement, after all.
The man was shocked to the point he couldn't move, eyes wide and staring in horror at his now half-attacked limb, nerves severed, falling limp in front of him with Toby's axe still lodged in. Toby himself let out a manic 'whoop whoop!', the adrenaline of the kill finally kicking in.
The shrill, terrified scream of the child was cut short by the echoing sound of a shot, and Toby watched as a round buried itself in her forehead. Hoodie, always the efficient one.
And then the man stood up, lunging for the knife, and his tunnel vision kicked in, as he sprinted to him, remaining hatchet in hand. It was somewhat impressive, Toby noted, he could even stand losing that much blood at once. Nevertheless, he wouldn't be standing much longer, as Toby barrelled at him full speed, sending the two of them sprawling into the ground, leaves flying up in a shower as they thudded down.
Toby came to his senses first, raising himself up, hatchet behind his head, grinning like the maniac that he was. Thud. Crack. The sweet sound of ribs crunching under his hatchet. He looked down, watching the way the blood squirted and pooled on the still-screaming mans chest. Again. Thwack. Crack. More blood, more screams. He was vaguely aware of it splashing his face as he licked his lips, acknowledging the familiar copper tang against his tongue.
In a sudden show of theatrics he dropped the axe to his side, bending down over the rib-cage and tearing the ribcage apart, the muscle and sinew nothing compared to his advanced strength. With a tear they were out of the way, strew either side of the now motionless corpse of the man. He plunged his hand into his chest, searching around in the guts, which were slippery with blood, before coming across what he wanted. The heart.
With a swift flick of his wrist he plucked the heart out of the mans chest, watching as it beat in his tight grip. He held it up, briefly considering gifting it to you. He could buy you some flowers and turn up at your door, blood-stained from head to toe, and present them to you.
"I killed him because I love you!" He'd say, and you'd swoon and fall into his arms and kiss him as he carried you back.
As oblivious as he was, he wasn't so stupid as to actually think your reaction would be so eager, casting the thought away. He snorted, throwing the heart so it hit the back of Tim, who was standing over the womanâs body, her neck neatly broken.
He spun around "Don't do that shit, Toby!"
Toby just giggled, righting himself and kicking the head of the body, watching it loll. As he stood up, he noticed something sticking out of his torso. Was that..? He pulled it out, and sure enough, there was the knife the guy had. Huh, he actually landed a hit. Kudos to him. The knife was discarded on the ground.
Hoodie cleared his throat, beckoning them to follow him back to the mansion, and so they did, in mostly silence. Tim neglected to point out Toby's incessant phone checking this time, thankfully.
He made his way back to the mansion, avoiding most of it's residents other than a quick scratch of Smile Dog. Locking the door to his room, stripping down and dumping his axes on his bed along with his phone, glancing down at where the knife had wounded him. Sure enough, it was already starting to scab up. One benefit of being a proxy was it was really, really hard to get hurt.
He slipped into the shower, not bothering to change the temperature on the water. He couldn't feel it after all, why bother?
By the time he'd gotten out, less than 10 minutes later, he chucked a towel round himself, not bothering to comb his mop of hair. He'd gotten all the blood out of it, that was good enough.
He leant over, dripping water on his bedsheets and dirty clothes, to check the phone. He beamed, looking down at the notification on the home screen, Letting out a content kind of sigh. He swept the bloody clothes and axes off the bed, dropping the towel on the floor and crawling in, not bothering to get dressed. He was too excited to talk to you now, what did that matter?
'Hey :)' You'd said, followed by 'Sorry the response was late, was still at work'
He briefly debated his response, before settling with a simple 'It's fine :)'
'How are you?'
'I'm good' he paused, he didn't want to seem too dry. 'Just been working out.' Well.. It was just a little lie, really. All that running and killing counted as exercise, surely.
He talked to you for almost a whole hour, kicking his legs like a schoolgirl every time you'd responded to him. He'd asked about your favourite book series, grinning as wide as he could when you infodumped to him. You felt close enough to share this with him! He was over the moon.
Eventually it came to an end as all good things do and you said goodnight, telling him you had work the next morning. And you needed to rest. He knew. It was cute you wanted to tell him though, like you cared, wanted to make sure he didn't feel like he was being ignored. You were so considerate; his lover was so cute.
He turned out the lights, laying on his side with the phone, scrolling through the pictures and videos he had of you. It had become a nightly routine whenever he was in the mansion, to help you feel closer to him.
He came across a photo he had recently taken - you in that matching black set he'd found when he first broke into your apartment. You were trying it on in the mirror, and holy shit, you looked perfect. The most beautiful thing he'd ever laid his eyes on. Even now, in a slightly grainy image taken through the drawer of a cupboard, he couldn't tear his eyes away.
Sure enough, he felt a familiar feeling in his lower stomach, looking down. He could spare a few minutes before he went to bed. Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was eight, on a visit to the Autumn Court with my father; what was to be discussed I had no clue, and even if I did know I was eight I wouldnât have understood the big words they used. All I had cared about this day was getting to see my best friend named Eris, a young male who I understood was the son of the Autumn Court High Lord my father was talking with. He was younger than Rhys by many years apparently. We were only a few months apart in our birth, so our parents thought it would be good for us to hang out around each other when they had these meetings.
Last time we had been here Eris had shown me around the gardens, and told me stories about the many creatures he had seen pass through them from his bedroom window. I was excited to think about what our adventure would be today, my father had let me wear pants and a nice blouse this time instead of a dress.Â
âIf you're going to be running around outside like your brother, the least you can do is save your mother from the heart attack of getting mud and grass stains out of your nice dresses.â My father had laughed and messed with my hair then morning he came to wake me up, clothes and boots snuggly under his arm.
He handed me the neatly folded clothing and pushed me softly towards my bathing room. I excitedly had taken the change of clothes and rushed myself together, eager to finally be able to keep up with Eris. The pants were a dark tan, almost black color, and the blouse was a pretty silver. Once I excitedly made my way back to father he had helped me into the fancy leather boots he had got me, they matched his and folded over at the knees. After he had dealt with my energy, laughing softly and playfully scolding me for not being able to sit still; he had finally corralled me to sit at my vanity table.
He had pulled my hair into two sections, one of them he made into a soft braid at the top, the other he left loose as he pulled the two sections into a ponytail. I never took these small moments for granted, I knew he never acted like this with mom or Rhys, this was a special side of him only I got to see. Once he had deemed my appearance appropriate he took my hand and led me through the house. Once we had made it to the many steps he had picked me up carrying me under my knees by his left arm, my small arms steadied myself by clinging to his shoulder and cloak. I had never really understood how his winnowing worked back then, he bent the world around us and it was an inky black that shimmered like glitter or the stars. It comforted me like how sitting on my balcony and staring at the sky of an evening did, when Rhys would be in Velaris he would occasionally come and sit with me telling me about the stars and constellations. I savored those days before the world became dark.Â
Once the world had folded back into place instead of the dark glittering world that was Velaris and the Night Court, I was greeted by gorgeous colors of red, orange, yellow, greens, and browns. Everytime it unfolded around us I was still mesmerized, the view was like something out of the books father would read with me.Â
I was drawn from my thoughts as father put me down and grasped my hand, straightening his back out and rolling his shoulders; he gave me a small smile and a nod as he guided us towards the forest house, where Eris stood with his own father. The small red headed male dressed in nice riding clothes could barely contain his energy; trying his best to contain his excitement in front of our fathers, his eyes sparkled as he watched us step through the archway that separated the gardens from the rest of the forest house property.Â
Once we had gotten close enough our fathers shook hands dismissing the both of us to whatever shenanigans we would be getting up too and headed inside the large extremely ornate house. Eris was quick to take my hands and lead me through the gardens, various flowers and plants whizzing by as Eris pulled me full sprint down the pathway that led to the woods on the grounds.
âCome on, come on! I have the best thing to show you! I just found it the other day and I think youâll love it!â His sharp voice as a child was laced with excitement, breaths sharp as he ran.Â
âI am! Iâm sure Iâll love it, I love everything you show me!â I giggled and picked up my speed to match his own pace. âNuh Uh, Iâm not telling you I want it to be a surprise!â He had flashed me a smile as we had begun weaving through trees.
After a few minutes of weaving through the trees I realized we were further in than we had ever been before. This section of the woods was thicker and I couldnât see the house any longer. Eris didnât seem worried and I trusted him but there was just some kind of unease that something was going to happen.
Eris slowed and giggled âCover your eyes silly, I said I wanted it to be a surprise.â He rocked on his heels eagerly and I giggled and did what he told me.
Once I had covered my eyes Eris placed a hand on my back and guided me slowly through the woods. We walked for a few more minutes till Eris slowed me to a stop and grasped my hand firmly. His voice was soft as he spoke to me. âYou can open your eyes now.âÂ
The sight in front of me was beautiful, Eris a step in front of me looking at me waiting for my reaction; Sat in the center of a small clearing surrounded by trees with leaves so bright it looked like a fire above us was a quiet pond, the leaves of the trees reflected off the top but it was so clear you could see the bottom. Eris smiled as he watched me take in the scenery pulling me over to two logs that rested near the edge of the pond, Eris joined me as I sat down on the log the both of us losing ourselves in telling the other stories of what had happened in our lives in the few weeks we hadnât seen the other.Â
After a while we had begun talking about what our parents were having us train in, he was baffled when I had told him I was not being taught how to fight. I had spent my time in the library, reading, and learning about politics. Eris stood and scoffed, crossing his arms and tapping his foot while thinking. I tilted my head at him while giggling, he looked like an adult how he stood and I could only imagine him as a high lord when he would be older in the same pose. He looked down at me with a quirked brow and looked like he was about to question my giggles when his eyes widened and he smiled brightly at me.
âIâve got it! Iâll teach you how to wield a sword myself! Only problem is we don't have any wooden practice swords here.â He covered his mouth while thinking before he snapped his fingers. âWe can just use sticks, there's bound to be some around here that would work, I mean we are out in the middle of the woods.â
I nodded eagerly in agreement and pointed to some bushes near the edge of the clearing. âIâll check those bushes over there, thank you Eris, it means the world to me! You are gonna be the best High Lord one day I mean it!âÂ
He smiled brightly at me âWhen Iâm High Lord of Autumn youâll be my High Lady!â I didnât even have time to respond before he had run off to his own set of bushes.
I turned my back to him as I felt my face heat up, High Ladies werenât a thing back then and just him speaking it into the world seemed blasphemous. I kneeled on the forest floor and pushed some of the bush leaves away, I scrounged around the bushes for several minutes and came up empty handed. I stood up and dusted off my knees, I froze up as I heard a stick break deeper out into the woods.Â
One stick broke and then another, the noises were rapidly making their way at me but I was frozen. I couldn't move, couldn't call out for Eris, couldnât do anything. Before I knew it I heard my name be called as I was pushed behind Eris who stood between me and a startled deer that was now reared up, Eris had a hold on my left wrist as he pushed me behind him and his other held a thick medium sized stick that he had pointed towards the creature. The scene in front of me seemed like it was slowed down as Eris put himself between me and the creature trying to protect me, that was the first time I ever felt that tug. Before I could truly understand what was happening That gold thread snapped in my chest and pulled my breath from me, tears began welling in my eyes as I realized what it meant.Â
I knew if Eris didnât turn around and mention the bond here and now I would have to wait for it to snap into place for him. Knew that I would have to resign myself to just informing my father and hope he would see it as a reason to finally solidify mine and Erisâs engagement. We had both known what our fathers meeting meant, why they were so happy with us becoming close friends.Â
I wanted to sob when he turned around to me and instead of saying anything about a bond all he had asked was if I was okay. I fought back tears but they still welled in my eyes and he pulled me close, worry laced in his eyes.Â
âHey, hey, shhhhh, it's okay the deer didnât mean to hurt you, it was just scared and not thinking straight. It's okay Iâve got you, nothing is gonna happen to you.â He pulled me into a hug and I began to sob into his shoulder as he rubbed my back softly.
We stayed there till my tears dried, all thoughts of training lost as we made our way back through the forest house. Eris had me tucked softly into his side as we walked, he motioned to a swing that hung from a tree and softly asked if I wanted to sit there for a bit. We sat on the swing Eris keeping it rocking softly, before both of our fathers pushed the door open. My father looked us over, once he had noticed the now dried tear tracks he rushed over keeling softly in front of the swing to take my face into his hands.Â
âWhat happened Starlight?â his metal rings were cold against my face.Â
I sniffled again as Eris moved to rub my back again softly and answered my father for me. âWe were out in the woods exploring and there was a startled deer, it charged her but I put myself between them and scared the deer back the other way.â
My father looked him over before he patted him on the shoulder. âGood job my boy, you'll make a good male when you are older.â
Eris beamed at him and I saw his eyes glance over to Beron, who I noticed made a small nod of approval at him. I felt Eris relax beside me and roll his shoulders back. I sniffled and looked up at him and my father stood up to talk to Beron in a hushed voice.Â
âI wasnât able to thank you properly early Eris. So, thank you for making sure I was safe.â I scooted closer to him on the swing and pulled him into a hug.
After a few moments my father and Beron had both nodded agreeing on whatever they had been talking about and shook hands. My father walked back over to collect me from the swing, when I pulled back from Eris he had picked me up the same as he had earlier.Â
âIâll see you next time Eris, I look forward to seeing what adventure you think of next time.â I waved at him and he waved back, jumping off the swing to stand next to Beron who placed a firm hand on the younger male's shoulder.Â
Before I knew it the world was covered in that shimmering inky darkness and then as it unfolded around us I was back home in Velaris. My father set me down gently on the moonstone floor and his voice was soft when he called out to me before I could slip up the stairs that led to my bed chambers.
âAre you okay, I mean other than the deer incident? It seems something more is bothering you.â His brows were furrowed but his eyes were soft.Â
I had to fight back a sob from breaking through my lips, but as my father he could already tell I was going to cry. He swept me up in his arms and sat us both on the couch, it would be just me and him in Velaris this week. Mother was at the camps with Rhys, which surprised me father would let her from his view. I had been told she was to have another baby soon and it was due within the next few months now. They must have had another argument, I reasoned, that was slowly becoming a regular thing but I never knew what it was about; all I knew was when I walked in on them arguing one time mother had glared at me and fatherâs eyes had softened on me.
âStarlight talk to me, what happened my love?â He ran a soothing hand on my upper back as I began to sob into his chest.
I could hardly speak over the sobs that wracked my body but father had always been patient with me. âEris,â I hiccuped and he soothed me, telling me to take my time. âWhen he stood between me and the deer, that bond you've told me about in the story books.â I paused for a moment to collect myself and stop myself from sobbing uncontrollably again.Â
Father stilled and his voice was quiet. âHeâs your mate, but I take it he didnât feel it snap into place himself. Donât worry Starlight he will one of these days, till then you at least have the comfort knowing you will be married to him one of these days when you are older. It will all be okay my dear.âÂ
Father had sat with me there for hours as I sobbed, I couldnât even quite understand why I had been crying really. I still didnât quite understand why other than maybe I was just overwhelmed by the ache that accompanied the bond. I must have gotten lost staring at myself in the mirror because I was pulled back into the moment by a soft knock on the outside of the changing room and Eris had popped his head in.
âYou Okay? Need help with your dress?â His brows are furrowed slightly, just enough though that the smallest of creases begins to form.
âOh, Sorry, yeah Iâm okay I must have gotten lost in my thoughts.â IÂ rubbed my temples and before I could even move to zip up the back of the dress myself Eris had slipped in behind me and zipped it up himself.
Resting his chin on my shoulder he looked into my eyes through the mirror, his hands resting on my hips. âTalk to me darling, what's going on in that pretty head of yours?âÂ
I couldâve stopped breathing right there, I could die happy even if this was the most affection I got from him. âJust distracted, thinking back on our childhood together to think of stories I can tell at gatherings so no one suspects anything.â A half truth.Â
He raised a brow at me with a smile on his face. âAlways thinking ahead of the game, what story got you so lost in your head you couldn't hear me call out to you earlier.âÂ
âThe deer incident.â I whispered.
âAhhh. Makes sense, what story are you thinking to accompany me saving your life when we were eight?â He moved from my shoulder, straightening behind me so he had to look down at me, and his hands found their way to my hair as he undid my current style and began winding a braid into it.
âHavenât quite thought of that yet, just stuck out to me for some reason.â I watched as a small content smile covered his features, finishing whatever style he had weaved into my hair.Â
âWe will think of something love,â he smiled and sighed, his hands finding their perch on the bare section of my shoulders. He laughed to himself. âCould always say it was the first time you realized you were in love with me, for saving your life.â
I turned in his arms and hugged him, laying my cheek against where his heart would have been. âAs always Eris, you are brilliant. What would I do without you?âÂ
âBe lost in your own thoughts? Getting trampled by a deer? Honestly I can continue listing off events.â He laughed and it sounded like a melody to me, I could hear where it rumbled in his chest before it had even made its way out from between those lips.
I smiled and took his hand in mine to lead him back through that curtain to further our efforts in making it seem like we had been courting for years. âMy hero.â I smiled softly and rolled my eyes.Â
He laughed and let me lead him out into the shop again, the heels of his boots clicked against the floor and he smiled down at me. âThey will bring the dress up to the house for us, I told them we had more shopping to do.âÂ
I nodded and thanked him softly, I saw the two female fae peek out from the back room both giggling and trying to hide it behind their hands. He separated his hand from mine and moved to hold the shop door open for me. âAfter you, my lady.âÂ
He giggled and I smiled, matching his energy. âWhy thank you, my most handsome high lord.â
After I had passed the door threshold he was back at my side, arm slung over my shoulders. âSo Iâm handsome?â he leaned his weight onto me looking down at me.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head at him. âAnd you think Iâm pretty. Point?âÂ
He laughed and it was so infectious I was quickly joining in as we moved around between various shops on the ground floor of the palace. We had made a stop here or there, Eris had purchased an outfit for Ritaâs tonight: a deep V cut black shirt with some black high waisted pants that made the shirt poof out more. He planned to just wear his current boots but had adorned the outfit with a burnt muted red suit jacket that had gold detailing. In the same store as that, we found a dress in the same red color that was just a simple backless halter that had a slit on each side. We had worn those outfits out.Â
We were currently in a jewelry store at Erisâs request. He had picked out an arm band for me that was gold and carved to look like leaves winding around my upper arm; It had a matching anklet that had Eris sold on it. He had actually given me puppy eyes when he spotted it. I was left alone for a few moments while I looked through the many necklaces the store had on display. Eris returned 5 minutes later with a soft smile on his face but an excited glint in his eyes that just screamed he was up to something that I wouldnât know about till later.Â
I was torn between two necklaces, a golden chain that had two leaves suspending a ruby between them or a gold multi layered one with small onyx gems hanging from each layer.
Eris leaned over my shoulder to look at both of them. âJust get both but wear the onyx one to Ritaâs the other one seems more intimate like I would have gifted it to you, wear it with the dress for equinox.â Â
He made damn good sense and I had taken both necklaces up to the counter and was ready to go with what I had in the small basket I carried but Eris stopped me with a soft hand on my waist. When I turned to look at him his face was a bright red, and his eyes couldnât meet mine.Â
He had to clear his throat before he spoke. âWhile we are here, I like this store's designs, I mean. Fuck I butchered that.â He let out a bitter laugh and shook his head at himself, clearly disappointed in his delivery. âIf we had been courting this long, I would have already given you a ring as a promise. I like this storeâs designs and craftsmanship. I would like to look at what they have, see if there's anything we both kind of like?â
I had smiled and nodded, taking the step forward to pull him towards the rings, it was sweet how flustered he had gotten at the idea of ring shopping. A short older male came from the back with an odd magnifying device over his right eye and a thick beard, Eris explained what we were looking for and the gray-haired male studied us both before he pulled several out. One was a simple gold band of leaves and vines tangling within itself, Eris liked the simplicity of it he had murmured under his breath. There was a topaz one carved to look like a rose, the band mimicking the vines and thorns, Eris simply said he didnât feel that topaz fit the design and didnât think roses fit either of us, that I could agree with. Eris had finally settled on a moonstone blue sandstone ring, the jewel on it looked like the night sky tiny flecks inside glittering like the stars. The gem was set between two branches or vines with leaves and other tiny sandstone gems.
The man had checked us out and packaged everything safely; letting us wear the golden leaf bands, Eris had to help me with the anklet due to my pumps, and the onyx necklace. Though when he had handed Eris the ring to put on me, the older male had done it earlier to see if it needed any adjustments to which was done with magic, Eris was red in the face and flustered as he took my hand in his. The male had made a noise that sounded kinda like a laugh and urged him on, Eris had swallowed his breath as he slid the ring onto my hand. Eris was startled when the man landed a firm pat on Erisâs back and the man gave him a smile and wink as he slid back into the back.Â
Eris led us outside where he took a giant breath in, hands on his knees as he shook himself out. âYou Okay Eris? Seems like you got really worked up in there.âÂ
Eris looked at me and smiled. âYeah, just fine, that was somehow way more nerve wracking than I expected it to be honestly with him there. That guy, cauldron, had one firm hand.â
I laughed as Eris rubbed the spot on his back and shot me a glare. âYou just, sorry, you just seemed so nervous asking me to look at them, but were so in the zone analyzing each ring, but then got so nervous putting it on my hand.â
Eris straightened and huffed at me. âIt had to make sense! It had to be a mix of both of us but since it was for you it needed more of you, but had to stay impressive enough for anyone at court that might ask to see the promise ring.âÂ
I smiled and walked past him, leaning close to whisper a quick âThank you handsome.â Into his ear before I started towards my brotherâs townhouse. I'd drop the other bags of our stuff off there and pick them up on my way home.Â
Eris caught up to me with a sarcastic huff but still smiling. The sun had begun to set, everyone wouldnât be at Ritaâs till after the sun had disappeared behind the mountains and the sky was dark. I looked around trying to think of something to do till we would all meet up.Â
âWell, Iâm officially out of ideas and we have maybe an hour till everyone will start meeting up at Ritaâs.â I huffed and put my hands on my hips as I turned to look at the red headed male.Â
He tilted his head at me and his bangs fell in his face. âWell miss sass, how are there any good cafes on our way to Ritaâs? Wouldnât hurt to be seen in public together so rumors start to spread.â The way the setting sun leaked around him he looked like one of the gods, before the cauldron and before the mother existed. Thank the mother this male was mine to worship like one too.Â
âThere is one I think, they serve small pastries, coffees, and teas.â I had to think about where it was in relation to Rita's. I often stopped in early mornings on my free days when I wouldnât be doing anything but reading all day.Â
âPerfect! They have outside seats?â He smiled at me and mocked me by putting his own hands on his hips.Â
âYes they do, thank you very much.â I laughed and stuck my tongue out at him. He reached out and grabbed it between his pointer and middle finger with a smirk.
âThen lead the way, but watch that attitude my dear could get you into real trouble one day.â He winked at me and I saw some of the females that were passing by blushing and giggling at his remark.Â
Once he had released my tongue, my face turned scarlet, he had truly caught me off guard with that move. I smoothed out my skirts and looped my arm with his. Weaving through the streets of Velaris till we came to stop at a small cafe decked in pastel blue and green colors. I pushed the door open and a small bell rang, I could hear a clatter from the back and quickly a female with hair the color of wine peaked from the back. An excited squeak left her mouth as she dusted her hands on her apron and moved to wash her hands. Her name was Panthea and she was by far my favorite baker we had in Velaris, her pastries were so well loved she had managed to purchase a storefront that was right on the Sidra. Â
She greeted us happily and asked what we both wanted, I told her just my same as always, a sweetened caramel concoction that was her signature and a pumpkin roll. Eris studied the pastry case for a few minutes and spotted her cinnamon knots at the bottom of the case, they had a cream cheese icing on them and Eris asked for two of them with some kind of apple tea. Panthea boxed both pastries up and handed us our cups, Eris once again held the door open for me. He sat his cup down on one of the wooden tables and pulled my chair out for me as dramatically as he possibly could while still making it a believable romantic gesture.Â
I snorted and rolled my eyes moving to take a seat. âMy Prince Charming.â I mused at him.
He snorted himself as he pushed me in. âAnything for my princess then, I aim to please.â taking his own seat he tore a piece of his cinnamon knot off and popped it in his mouth.Â
We spent the hour making cheesy jokes and gossiping about whatever we could, falling back into that familiar rhythm from all those years ago. At some point Eris had gotten bored and started throwing tiny paper balls he tore from his napkin at me. One of the balls smacked straight in the center of my forehead and he began cackling hard enough he had to take a moment and rest his forehead against the table. I joined him, having to take a moment myself to grab the tiny ball and chuck it back at him. Though I had landed it in his shirt and he began howling as he shook his shirt out, the ball hitting the ground.Â
After we picked up our mess and threw our trash away we set off for Ritaâs. I had to wipe a stray tear from laughing too hard with him as we both calmed down and spotted Lucien leaning against the outside wall of Ritaâs. The younger male waved at us and we waved back once we had gotten close enough Eris looped his arm around Lucienâs shoulder and pulled him in for a hug.
Lucien had told us the others had beat us by a few minutes and were already inside, they had winnowed apparently while the three of us chose to walk. It would be a full party tonight Lucien had stated, everyone had decided to come, which meant Nesta who I loved for her sarcasm, and Elain. Great.
I hadnât even noticed Eris had stiffened up behind me as I hugged Lucien, but Lucien must have because he grabbed Erisâs shoulder and nodded. âIâll give you two a minute, take a breather before you come inside, tensions seem high tonight.âÂ
Eris nodded and gave Lucien a small smile, letting out a shaky breath. This was it, the calm before the storm that was my family, Iâm sure there would be venom laced in every word exchanged tonight. Thank the cauldron for alcohol, if it got too bad I would order a round of shots for the table and then pull Eris to the dance floor. Eris looked up at me with a sad smile, a smile I understood all too well. I had known this smile since his first brother was born; it was the smile that said âItâs time to put up our masks. No more just me and you, we have to put on a show and let me only see a facade.â
I gave Eris a small smile back and wrapped my arms around him in a reassuring hug. âHey, itâs going to be okay. If the boys get too much we can have a code or a signal or something and Iâll step in.â He hesitated to agree which I knew meant even if he did need to signal me he wouldnât but I played along and gave him a code word and let him know if he couldnât get the word out to just tap me twice in quick succession.Â
He let out a shaky breath. âRight, mask up. Thank you darling.âÂ
I knew how deep their words cut into him. Had been there enough times to see him breakdown over becoming like his father. Had cried to my own father when the lashings first started because Beron was hurting my mate but neither of us could do anything about how Beron saw fit to raise his heir who didnât even know I was his mate. I had been forced by my father to bite my tongue anytime anyone talked bad about Eris in our household, to protect Eris my father told me. He entwined his fingers with mine and pulled me towards the door to Ritaâs.Â
Inside the party was full swing, lights darkened with fancy lights coming from the live band on stage. Lively attendees filled the dancefloor, and under a faint light in a back corner semi near the bar around a large booth with additional chairs pulled up for Cassian and Azriel was the inner circle and Lucien. Everyone was engaged in conversations except for Lucien who was sipping on a glass of fire brandy from the looks of it.Â
It was Lucien who was the first to even notice us approach, he scooted over for both of us to fit in the booth. Eris sat next to him and I was on the outside edge of the booth, Feyre chirped a happy greeting and I nodded and smiled back at her. Azriel and Mor shot a glare at Eris, Cassian waved and took a sip of whatever dark liquor he was drinking and continued his conversation with Nesta. The latter gave me a warm smile and tipped her glass towards me in greeting, everyone but Azriel, Mor and Elain had given us some kind of small greeting.Â
Small talk took over the table. Lucien and Eris finding comfort in each other, I took the chance to slip from the table and grab me and Eris some drinks. I got Eris a glass of the same fire brandy his brother had been drinking, it was an export of the Autumn Court but I knew it was his favorite, and got myself a glass of a spiked Cinnamon and apple cider that was house made. I brought the two glasses back to the table but before I had even made it there I could see the discomfort that lay beneath Erisâs mask. They had waited till I left the table to begin berating him and it angered me, none of them could see me except for Lucien and Eris. Lucien shot me a warning glance, it meant they were getting real nasty with Eris. I felt my blood boiling and I tried to calm it even slightly as I stepped closer to them, the sound from the band drowning out my movements.Â
âWhat right do you even have to ask her to do that, Eris? You are no better than your father, for all we know you whisk her away to the equinox dance and she comes back to us in a worse condition than Mor was because she trusts you for whatever reason. Though Iâm sure it's just a flawed judgment on her part.â Azriel growled it at the red head.Â
I growled under my breath as I raked my own claws across all of their shields as I sat down. I watched Mor flinch as the claws raked against hers and I glared at all of them. Rhyâs eyes found the anger in mine and I saw him recoil slightly realizing he should've stopped them from saying anything while I was gone.Â
âAbsolutely pathetic.â I growled, passing Erisâs cup to him, not bothering to look at anyone else. âI would have thought you knew better than to behave like complete and utter pricks in my absence.âÂ
âIts fine, they're just trying to protect you.â Eris tried to defend them but I wasnât going to let him be berated all night.Â
âNo. Eris, it's not fine.â I softened my voice just for him. âMy brothers should know you are one of my oldest friends and I will not let them talk bad about you. I have held my tongue long enough. I will not tolerate them saying shit like this to your face at all. I was forced to tolerate it behind your back.â
Erisâs mask cracked just a hair as I could tell he wanted to cry. And Azriel went to say something else, I shot him a dark look. âYou have no right to say a word Azriel, you are no better, you only think you are. That ego doesnât look good on you. Who are you to speak when you do not even know the entire story behind what you bring up.âÂ
Elain scoffed and I had to stop myself from ripping into her own ego as I took a large swing from my own drink. Azriel shut up though he knew I could rip him apart with pretty words as easily as Rhys could mist someone. Mor flinched and tried to defend herself.Â
âSave it, I don't want to hear any of your disappointing excuses for being terrible people. He has been my friend since birth and he is important to me in that regard. I know him better than I know some of you, I have let you slander him because father assured me it was the right thing to do but I am finally done. Apologize for your shitty behavior.â A murmur of apologies echoed from every member of the table and Lucien raised his brows and took a sip from his glass, Eris looked like he wanted to cry even more now.
âAdditionally, did I not run half of this court during Rhysâs absence? Am I not just a few years younger than any of you born fae at this table.â A chorus of yeahs found me.Â
âThen I will do as I please. And if that means courting Eris, courting my best friend even if it is fake, so be it because I make my own decisions.â I growled and sat down.Â
Rhys smiled and nodded, though he wasnât off the leash himself he at least approved of what I had to say on the matter. Eris took a sip of his fire brandy but his hand found my thigh under the table and he squeezed softly, a silent thank you. Erisâs hand eventually found mine and I played with his rings, if it was comfort he wanted, it was comfort he would get. I only got up from the table to refill our drinks, but when I got back each time it seemed my outburst had silenced them from saying anything to Eris. His warm smile was all that greeted me when I returned with another glass of fire brandy and apple cider in hand.Â
Rounds of shots and appetizers had made it through the table when Mor had finally pulled all the girls to dance. Rhys pulled Azriel outside to talk, leaving me with both red heads and an incredibly intoxicated Cassian who only managed to mumble a âI'm proud of you, Iâm gonna go find Nesta, my pretty lady.âÂ
Lucien dismissed himself to get another glass of his own fire brandy. He had just finished his first glass and was eager to talk to his brother rather than actually drink, though I couldnât blame the kid. Now that it was just me and Eris left at the table he let his mask slip, he had made it to six glasses of brandy, drinking away the discomfort that was my brothers.Â
He had greeted me with a big smile when I turned to check in on him. I hadnât even been able to get a word out before he was thanking me. âI can not begin to describe the many ways in which I am thankful for what you did for me my dear.âÂ
Oh no, he was romantic drunk, and it would be in front of the entire inner circle. âYou, my pretty lady, are absolutely, irrevocably wonderful. I am honored to have you defend me so passionately.â He grasped my hand and smiled up at me, Iâm cutting him off myself this is his last glass I swear.
I shushed him and he wrapped his arms around my waist, while he was seated and I was still standing so he buried his face into my stomach and murmured continual thanks to me. Lucien appeared back at the table and he took a sip before looking over his glass at me.Â
âIâll take him to the bathroom.â Lucien mumbled rubbing his temples and sat his glass down. âCome on Eris, we are going to the bathroom.â
The older sibling whined into my stomach something that sounded like a âI don't wanna leave the pretty ladyâ
I had to pry his hands from around my waist and tilt his head to look up at me, he gave me those pretty puppy dog eyes. âEris honey, go with your brother to the bathroom. Iâll be right here when you get back and we can go and dance then.âÂ
He nodded an agreement and stood to walk with Lucien. I had to stifle a laugh when he tried to whisper-yell to Lucien. âLucien did you hear that she called me honey!â
All Luucien could answer was a small âYes I heard Eris, what a lucky male you are brother.â and flashed me a look that screamed you owe me for this.
I happily sunk down into my seat and nursed my third glass of my apple cider. After a few moments I saw Mor who wouldnât make eye contact with me slide into the seat across from me. I wanted to groan thinking my peaceful alone time with my cider was about to get ruined.
I however, was caught off guard when she said âYou know the true story about what happened?â I nodded and she took in a sharp breath.Â
âThen I want to apologize, all this time I thought you just hated me because I took your chance to marry him away.â Her tone was entirely defeated.
âDonât think anything of it Mor, you had every reason to think that was my problem, It wasnât my place to start a scene so soon. Plus Eris told me about the uh,â I motioned to her stomach and she flinched âWasnât my place to out you on that though you should clear it up with everyone soon. If anything at least with Cassian, he deserves to know.â
She nodded and gave me a small smile. âWhat can I do to make it up to you?â
I smiled back at her, our first understanding with each other in hundreds of years. âJust donât slander him anymore and donât let anyone else slander him either.â she just nodded and reached out her hand. I shook it, a small barely noticeable tattoo of a butterfly appeared on our inner wrists. She made a deal with me about Eris.Â
Next thing I knew I had the scent of firewood and cinnamon around me, Erisâs arms encircling me and his happily intoxicated voice chirped at me. âYou promised me we could go dance when I got back.â
