I’m rewatching X-Men (2000) for the first time in a long time and besides finding it exquisitely nostalgic, I keep finding myself thinking, “Damn, [character] is kind of OP” with literally every. Single. Character. And it’s funny now to think of how crazy powerful all the X-Men are compared to say, the Avengers, where I feel like the only god-tier power the MCU ever delivered was Captain Marvel and maybe Thor in Ragnarok. I guess the first X-Men kind of downplays Jean Gray’s powers, and there are cool take-downs like Magneto’s iconic “That remarkable metal doesn’t run through your entire body, does it?” line and Toad getting fried by Storm, but I feel like it’s so fun that most of the time literally every character is OP. Anyway, I wanted to ask you as an X-Men expert, have they always been so cool and powerful, or do the comics toggle back-and-forth with how powerful they are like the later X-Men movies did? And did comics Avengers and Fantastic Four ever think they had a chance vs. the X-Men?

LOL its ironic, I kinda consider them to be massively UNDERPOWERED in the X-Men films, but also I hate everything about them because Singer, so who's unbiased, not THIS guy!

For the most part it depends on the character. Like, you know Bobby's my Blorbo above all Blorbos there, so the X-films in particular did a shitty job of depicting his actual power levels, but in their 'defense' I guess, so does every other adaptation. Nowhere but the comics has been consistent about him being portrayed as ridiculously OP as he is, which is kinda funny because for all that Iceman doesn't SEEM like he'd be a top tier power level kinda character, he's consistently been that way since the early 90s. Hell, for that matter, he and Jean were the original omega level mutants used to debut the term in its modern interpretation.

(A lot of people point out that omega was first used to describe Rachel Summers, who isn't considered an official omega level mutant these days, but that was by Sentinels describing her as an omega level THREAT, so I don't consider that the same thing as the OL classification mutants use among themselves, but just throwing that out there).

In the comics, there are different classifications, kinda, that mutants use to describe different power levels. Most mutants are gamma or beta mutants. Most combatant mutants like major X-Men and foes, such as Cyclops, Bishop, Psylocke, Emma Frost, etc, are alpha level mutants.

Omega mutants are the rarest of the rare, and are, simply put....god-tier mutants. Their literal definition is mutants whose upper levels of power are beyond any ability to measurably quantify. A lot of people default to calling them infinitely powerful, which isn't quite INaccurate, but also isn't quite accurate....its more like....they're mutants who will never stop finding new ways to grow and advance their abilities, who have no upper ceiling to their powers...though all of them reach different tiers of ACTUALLY utilized power at different times/lengths of time.

A ton of people HATE the omega concept because frankly, it DOES make those with that designation overpowered as fuck but I like to point to DC and the Justice League which has always been full of god-tier characters who are nevertheless possible to write for and give relatable issues and equivalent foes. Personally though, I've always loved it for the narrative possibilities rather than the power levels per se. I like it because omegas are like, ultimate examples of evolution (Marvel style, lol, as in the kind they always have go hand in hand with mutants but uh, isn't always scientifically on point haha). But I mean, they're individual mutants who embody the concept of constant, unending evolution. The view of omega mutants as just the most powerful misses the point, IMO...part of why I hate Bobby's constant cycle of 'untapped potential' storylines (his most often recurring narrative) is because it fails to acknowledge that omegas like him CAN'T ever fully realize their potential, just MORE of it, because like evolution, there is no actual intended ENDPOINT for his or any other omega's powers. There will always be more. Further they can go.

Anyway....I know X-Men '97 emphasized Jean, Storm and Magneto as omegas, but even it didn't actually convey the level their powers are at in the comics, other than Magneto doing the global EMP thing. Omegas can pretty much all affect things on a global scale. A group of twelve of them in the comics recently terraformed Mars, in order to relocate a bunch of mutants called the Arakkii there after they returned from their 4,000 year long war in a demon dimension, protecting Earth from being invaded by it. (Long story).

But yeah, so omegas are a thing in the comics, and no adaptation has quite yet even scratched the surface of what they can do in the comics. There's only 12 acknowledged omegas out of all the Earthborn mutants (though Hickman's list is shit IMO and its ridiculous that there's only one person of color on it, Storm, and there's several other mutants of color I'd happily add to it if given the chance to balance things out), but the Arakkii (who are all black-coded if not actually black, because of where and when Arakko/Okkara originally existed on Earth before Amenth invaded 4K years ago), have a similar number of omegas of their own. But again, we're talking around 12 mutants EACH, among their total respective populations of about a million mutants each.

Anyway, the big four of the omegas, the major names among the X-Men, are Jean, Storm, Bobby and Magneto, with the other Earth omegas being Exodus, Elixir, Hope Summers, Absolon Mercator, Jamie Braddock, Proteus, Gabriel Summers/Vulcan and Quentin Quire (sigh). And then on the Arakkii side there was Isca the Unbeaten and her sister Genesis, Apocalypse's wife, Lactuca, Sobunar, Xilo, Ora Serrata, Lycaon, Tarn, Lodus Logos, Idyll, Kobak Never-Held, and Apocalypse and Genesis' kids, the original four Horsemen. Plus they keep going back and forth on whether or not White Sword is an omega or just a really powerful External, but whatever, I digress. Anyway, that list isn't accurate anymore because as of Genesis War, a few of them are dead, just like on the Earth list Hope is....transcended I guess you could say, lol, and Elixir and Proteus are back in the White Hot Room with her and who knows where the fuck Mercator is these days, but like.

Point is, the omegas are cosmic level. Jean's current solo literally has her being called a cosmic entity, because yeah, she's one with the Phoenix again but since the Phoenix has long been described as a future point of her own evolution and was recently solidified as like, a mass gestalt of mutant life force and psyche that was collected within her and her power like a nexus point, its kinda one and the same. Storm's solo is said to have plans to have her interact with the Abstracts of the Universe (the like, ultimate top-tier beings in it), Eternity and Oblivion.

Bobby's been quite literally unkillable since the early 2000s at least, as in he's been hit with a nuke and atomized, been blown up MULTIPLE times, and he just makes himself new bodies out of the next nearest moisture. He once started a new Ice Age, can create armies of semi-autonomous ice giants, teleport anywhere there's water, etc. Oh yeah, and since he's the walking embodiment of the future heat-death of the universe, he's also frozen reality on a quantum level to quarantine a cosmic tier threat. Oh AND frozen Hell. Jean reignited a sun recently. Storm took out an alien mercenary army in seconds by just hitting them with Jupiter-level atmospheric pressure with a snap of her fingers, and the only thing about that which actually required she exert herself came from holding BACK enough that her allies standing mere feet away weren't affected the same as her targeted enemies. Vulcan talked about obliterating Mars when he got cranky, and everyone took that very seriously because he can absolutely fucking do it. Any of them can.

There's a reason X-fans are sore about how editorially scripted AvX went, and not just because the X-Men were known to be a lesser priority at that time due to the film rights, so they were never going to get to be the 'winners' of that, ideologically, even though the optics for how that fight started were not actually as great for the Avengers as Marvel seems to think they were. But it also has a lot to do with the fact with all credit to the Avengers heavy-hitters, which there are quite a few of, they tend to get their powers/origins from cosmic storylines far away from Earth, hail from other dimensions like Asgard, etc, whereas mutants have been home-growing cosmic tier fighters on Earth for decades now, and that was pretty much treated like a non-factor.

None of the omegas (and Magneto and Storm may not have OFFICIALLY been listed as such yet, but Bobby was, and its not like they actually got any power UPGRADES when they were finally canonized as omegas, it just was a label change acknowledging the power they've always been depicted as having) actually played definitive roles in that, and again, when you've got global threats in one side's ranks that you refuse to acknowledge as such in order to make sense of pitting them against opponents they should be able to handle with a finger snap, it does tend to make stans cranky. Its like yeah, they gave me a panel of Bobby fighting Red Hulk in the background, but that was the extent of his impact on AvX as a whole, even though he'd quite literally taken Thor on, solo, mere months before during the Dark Iceman arc.

But yeah, you say AvX around X-fans, we will hiss at the memory like a snake. Was not fun for us. And again, this isn't to disparage the cosmic tier characters the Avengers have, and of the Fantastic Four, Sue and Johnny are right up there at the top of any power ranking system one might care to devise. But...like....mutants tend to deal with their threats internally in the Marvel universe, so every mutant alive has known for decades that Magneto, Storm, Iceman and Jean should not be locked in a room together and told to fight because without nonomegas who can't actually survive the stuff they can around them to remind them to keep their power levels DOWN, those four could very easily blow up the Earth before they even realize what happened since omegas vs omegas equals unlimited escalation.

Meanwhile, it was literally only during the Krakoan era that anyone OUTSIDE of mutants sat up and took note of the omega classification (which has existed for decades) even being a THING, let alone mutants casually being like 'oh yeah, we have like, twelve of those guys.'

LOL, so anyway. Yeah, it is kinda funny to hear the X-Men in existing adaptations described as OP, because none of them even come close to scratching the surface of how many of the X-Men are portrayed in the comics. I have very little interest in the MCU as a whole, and am not expecting to be a fan of their take on the X-Men but I am very curious to see which X-Men they emphasize as the heavy-hitters and what level of power they depict them as being at. For better or worse, whether fans like it or hate it, there's a good dozen of them who can go toe to toe with literal gods without breaking a sweat.

(Like, literally literally, not how Kalen usually uses literally literally. Bobby single-handedly thwarted a Loki 'take over Asgard' scheme in the EIGHTIES, at a time when only Thor himself was going one on one with his brother and if he wasn't around, Loki was considered a 'bring your whole team' kind of threat. And this was a full decade before the omega term was even a thing. Thor's canonically been wary of Bobby since the latter was SIXTEEN because he considers him to be a baby Ymir, the father of all frost giants. He was literally playing poker with other Avengers when he sensed Bobby go Dark Side during the Dark Iceman arc and his face went 'oh fuck.' You know how powerful you have to be to make Thor's face go 'oh fuck'?)

(Fimbulvetr is the Asgardian term for the Everwinter, the start of Ragnarok. Its a Ymir thing. Incidentally, after AvX when the X-Men and Avengers were making a point to cooperate, Thor and Bobby teamed up against Ymir himself, and THEN Marvel was perfectly happy to allow Bobby to kick his ass solo and be like 'what, was that supposed to be hard' to an incredulous Thor, BUT I DIGRESS).

But anyway, the official omega list is very recent, but everyone on it like Storm, Jean, Bobby and Magneto have all been consistently powerful as fuck since the 80s, MINIMUM. Bobby's 80s solo was used to debut Oblivion, an Abstract of the Universe, Storm was channeling the energy of multiple stars when fighting the Brood in space, and that was all decades ago. They've all had occasions of being nerfed since then, but for the past decade or so, the Big Four have had relatively few occasions of that compared to any point before, and Marvel's been more pointed about keeping their upper ranges of power more normalized for them.

Everything I Watched This Year

I have watched the most movies this year of my life, which is still so few that I can fit them all into one tumblr post, so here they are in approximately chronological order (along with TV shows). I almost exclusively watch visual media with other people, and they're often the ones picking. Favorites get an asterisk (*), and this does not include rewatches.

*Fallen Angels (Wong Kar-Wai): Five loosely connected lonely people chase imagined versions of each other around the Hong Kong nightscape. I didn't go into a plotless arthouse film expecting it to be extremely funny, but it is. He Zhiwu (my new tumblr icon!) deserves to be up there among the deranged autistic blorbos of all time.

What We Do in the Shadows (Showrun by Paul Simms and Stefani Robinson) [First half of S4]: If you're on tumblr you probably know the premise already. I was disappointed that after S3, which felt like a build to huge shifts in the characters and status quo, S4 felt like a walkback. Don't remember much else about it other than crying laughing at the sequence where they try to get baby Colin Robinson into private school.

Brokeback Mountain (Ang Lee): Everyone knows what this movie is already. It's well-made and solid, but it wasn't anything that exciting for me. I expected it to be more striking. Love the 70s home production design in that one scene though, and that kiss truly is good.

*Velvet Goldmine (Todd Haynes): A reporter tracks down the truth of a rock star gay affair that sparked his own queer coming of age. Dreamy, gorgeous, and I could not describe the plot scene to scene if you paid me. Just a really lovely film to experience for me, someone who had latent and unnamed transgay feelings as a teenager about the concept of "emo boys kissing."

Phantom of the Paradise (Brian De Palma): Phantom of the Opera-inspired drama about a songwriter getting revenge on the predatory producer that ruined his life. Total delight of a campy melodrama.

Kamikaze Girls (Tetsuya Nakashima): A delinquent and fashion-obsessed scam artist strike up a lesbian-tinged unlikely friendship. This movie is bananas. Way more stylistically experimental than I'd expected--there's a sequence of the protagonist's birth, people just float offscreen sometimes, the townspeople constantly turn to the camera and advertise for the megamart they buy all their clothes from, etc. A really really surprisingly fun watch.

*Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Hiroshi Kobayashi and Ryō Andō) [First 6 episodes only]: Optimistic young pilot of a war machine that she may have an illegal psionic connection with goes to space high school and is promptly drawn into political plotting via accidentally getting gay engaged to a corporate heiress. Highly enjoyed the parts of it I saw - great action sequences, fun character drama, and just enough political substance. Not as weird as Utena, which it's inspired by, but can be brutal where necessary. I should watch more!

*In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar Wai): Two Shanghainese emigrants in Hong Kong discover their spouses are cheating and embark on a tragic affair of their own. God, this movie deserves every bit of praise it gets. I gasped out loud multiple times at the gorgeousness of shot compositions. Top notch acting, gorgeous colors. This tends to be a movie pitched as being about a repressed love affair, but it's also a movie about the positionality about being middle class colonial subjects and the relationships they have with the world. This gave me so much to chew on after I watched it.

Happy Together (Wong Kar-Wai): Two Hong Kong expats living in Argentina have a toxic gay relationship trapped in a tiny apartment. This one felt very opaque to me, and it is allegedly an allegory for Hong Kong being returned to Chinese rule after British colonialism, which I absolutely do not have enough background to really get. Wong is a great director though, and I constantly think about the sequence of the main character seeing the abusive ex walk into the club, beat while he finishes his drink, and then he breaks his bottle off and goes in to screams.

Bound (The Wachowskis): A lesbian handyman falls for a woman married to an abusive mobster that they plot to rob. The first 45 minutes were very enjoyable as a lesbian heist film. Unfortunately, once the gunshots started the torture scenes became so stressful for me to watch that I sweated through my shirt. (I also had Covid).

How many works do you have on AO3? I have 62 total works, and I am so disappointed in a lot of them 😅

What's your total AO3 word count? 339,839 words!

What fandoms do you write for? Lately I've been working a lot on fics with AC: Odyssey, Monsterverse, and VicTORIous. However, I did recently do a fic for Mean Girls (2024) and I used to write a lot for BNHA/MHA, when I was very big on that fandom, but all those fics are really bad and cringe so I try to pretend they don't exist. I also have some batfamily fics, and a few for Dynasty. A few oneshots here and there with that fic being my only work in the fandom. And how could I forget, Horizon!

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Confidence - What a Hero Needs - this annoys me so much, it was my first fic, EVER. I wrote it 4 years ago, and it's still my most popular, I've written much better stuff. I've even REWRITTEN THIS ONE AND THE OG IS STILL MORE POPULARR GKHDGHJHWJHK Apects Unknown - or are they? - a fun batfamily and wonderbat based fic off of my own mini-universe. Very cute, and very proud of this fic Perseverance - What a Hero Needs - the immediate follow up to Confidence. Again, I've written a lot better stuff "What? I like hero merch!" - My favorite crack fic I've written. Also BNHA/MHA based, but this was just fun and cute Among (Us) the Villains - yet another BNHA/MHA fic, but this time it's based about Izuku being friends with the LoV. And gaming with them. Made around the time of Among Us, hence the title

Do you respond to comments? I try, especially once I post something new. But honestly, a lot of my responses end up being just hearts or "thank you's" and it personally makes me feel like I'm being disingenuine when i respond with them too much

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I suppose Kumandra's Heart? But that was more sad than angst, I think?

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Pretty Girls, my Mean Girls (2024) fic!!!! I love this one so much, it's one of the few I go back and reread often! Basically a rewrite of the movie to be a lot gayer.

Do you get hate on fics? Oh yeah, there was this one marvel fic I did, and this one commenter was really mad that I wasn't going exactly as canon dictated. Because of course

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have a few fics with smut, and it's mainly kink-based. Definitely love involved too, but very kink-based.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Yes! I enjoy it a lot! My craziest one would probably have to be the one I'm currently writing, combining the Assassin's Creed universe and Legendary's Monsterverse. It's called Ancients Risen Anew, and based on Kassandra joining MONARCH after the G-Day event in 2014!

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge! I made all my fics available only to registered users for the purpose of keeping them as safe as I can while still sharing them.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope! Would love to see it happen though!

Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope! It sounds interesting to do though!

What's your all time favorite ship? I would have to say Jade West/Tori Vega. The good old classic gay couple from Nickelodeon, as much as we hate how that era of TV was behind the scenes. A close second would probably be Aloy/Seyka, from Horizon. I just love them so much, they're my little blorbos (i think i used that term right :D)

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have a few, but I'll talk about Cascade for now. It's the marvel fic I mentioned earlier, and I kinda lost all interest in marvel recently. The last media I saw was The Marvels, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I kinda got oversaturated with too much Marvel stuff, and not enough of it was as amazing like Shang-Chi was to make me wanna stay interested. Will definitely watch the stuff I'm interested in though (anything with Kate Bishop and Yelena)

What are your writing strengths? Hmmmm, tough one. I would say lore. I love writing lore and explaining lore. I am also very good at writing outlines.

What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes. Especially fast paced ones. I love the choreography in movies, but how am I supposed to translate the fast-paced combat into writing in a way that feels natural????

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I have done this for a short story! Please go check it out, its non-fandom related so it didn't get traction, but oh my god i did so much research for it and I love it. It's called Children of Níðhǫggr!

First fandom you wrote for? Boku no Hero Academia / My Hero Academia. Please, end me

Favorite fic you've written? How the fuck am I supposed to choose just one?!??!?! I'll limit myself to five, to keep this short, lol Ink & Sparks - which is my favorite Jade West/Tori Vega fic. I rewrote it several times, and the version linked is the best one I've done. Please check it out, I love it so much! There's More To Life Than Surviving! - Honestly, this one is a contender for top fic. A crack fic, but for Ninjago! Loved it a lot The Titan of the Pearl - A very nice fic I wrote combining the Pirates of the Caribbean and Godzilla. Because I can Kumandra's Heart - A slight ending rewrite of Raya, the Last Dragon, which is my personal favorite Disney Princess movie Pretty Girls - the Mean Girls (2024) fic I mentioned earlier. I love this one so much, and like I said, I keep going back to reread it, that's how much I enjoy it Going to tag @aeide, @hartlesshart, @foibles-fables, and @spectres-n-knights for this! That's a lot and I'm here 👏 for 👏 it 👏 I'm gonna split the posts for CR and FE3H so they don't get in each other's tags; this post will be for CR.

1. the character everyone gets wrong

Vex. I've talked about it elsewhere, including here on twitter for those interested, but it's really irritating to me that so many self-proclaimed fans of hers keep flattening her into a Joss Whedon woman (while simultaneously decrying those very tropes). I've seen it a lot of times among Vex/Keyleth shippers who tend to project themselves onto Keyleth and thinks Keyleth "deserves" to have the character they think is the hottest, but I've also seen it among Percy/Vex shippers who are hardcore Vex stans who also think she's being oppressed at pretty much every turn (except by Percy who worships the ground she walks on and is therefore perfect for her). It also happens among the old C1 commentariat, though they use it to bash Vex and Laura for [bleep blorp misogyny].

Vex is complicated. She's resilient, clever, resourceful, beautiful and confident about it, compassionate, pragmatic, frosty to those who haven't earned her trust, desperate for approval, and frugal to the point of obsession. She's a survivor of abuse and racism. Her most defining relationships are with three male characters. She stole a broom for no reason other than that she wanted it. She spent 15,000 gold to free two slaves. She has the most explicitly political career out of everyone in Vox Machina, including the tribal leader and the scion of a noble house. If Syldor and Syngorn hadn't been so horrible to her she'd have become a diplomat like her father, something Laura explicitly said. She and Syldor try to repair their relationship post-canon. She has no problem topping Percy. She gets flustered by Percy.

In short? She acts like a real person. If you're watering her down to "greedy bitch", "step on me queen", or "most victimized character ever", then honestly, I think your tastes are unspeakably boring.

10. worst part of fanon

There have been too many posts to count about my main frustration—that fanon is seen as sacrosanct compared to canon simply because fans came up with it, and that fans get so wrapped up in fanons and headcanons (that are, if I'm gonna get really violent, rather adolescent in scope and tone) that they're genuinely righteously outraged when canon contradicts it or other fans dislike it.

So since we're choosing violence, I'll just say glasses!Imogen. Round cute sweet little uwu baby bean glasses!Imogen. It's symptomatic of that larger problem, it largely exists purely in the context of a ship (which is symptomatic of another larger problem), and it's not an interesting enough concept to justify its existence after everyone and their mom has done it and demanded that everyone else validate it.

13. worst blorbofication

Honestly? I gotta go with Percy, and I say this as someone whose blorbo is Percy. There are two strains of this:

1. The old guard C1 fans who have spent years coming up with ways that Percy, as Vex's simp, will absolutely adore everything she says and does and do whatever she tells him to and never challenge her or consider himself in any way, and

2. The more traditional Uwu Baby Boy types who really seem to like making him as soft and romantic as possible. The character tag is uninhabitable if you don't block characterxreader blogs on sight.

Honestly though, I'll take type 2 over type 1, because I don't remember the type 2 folks throwing a hissy fit over Matt's portrayal of Percy and comparing him to Syldor. If you're genuinely trying to argue that Matt portrayed Vex's husband similarly to her abuser and that either Laura or Taliesin would be okay with that, I would cordially suggest removing your head from your colon.

Full Story:

Halloween was only a week away, meaning that homes everywhere were decorating for the spooky holiday. Fake webs, plastic gravestones, and inflatable witches stood on lawns and windows were covered with sticky decal depicting skeletons and pumpkins. And that was ignoring any decorations that might have been set up inside. One such home was Marvin and Jackie's, who only really had the ability to decorate their small apartment. They hoped one day they'd have a full house with a yard to really go all out, they were both lovers of Halloween. There were cut out pumpkins and cats and all sorts of monsters taped to the walls, bats hung by nearly invisible string from the ceiling. There was even a table top cauldron placed on the shelf near the door, ready to be filled with candy and trinkets for when the big day came.

The couple had even more of a reason to decorate this year, as they were also hosting a Halloween party for their friends this year. It was a yearly thing among the friend group, in which a different person or couple hosting each year. Neither of them knew they couldn't top Anti and Jameson's horrifying haunted house theme from last year, possibly no one could. But they were both fine with sticking with a more cutesy and cartoonish theme for their turn. Marvin never liked jumpscares anyways.

Jackie was in the living room at the moment, tossing up sticky rubber bugs so they could stick to the ceiling. Chances are these would now stay up there for years if they were good quality, he was just mentally crossing his fingers that he wouldn't suddenly have a rubber centipede fall onto his head one day. But it wasn't long until his decorating was interrupted by his fiance coming out of their shared bedroom, a giddy smile on their face. A smile that Jackie always treasured when he saw it.

"You wanna see the decorations I've been working on??" Marvin giggled, practically bouncing on their toes from their excitement. They didn't even give Jackie a moment to answer before they pulled him into the bedroom. Against one of the walls was a long desk that was always covered in containers full of clay and crafting related chemicals. It was a hobby of Marvin's, making various clay models of whatever gave them inspiration. It wouldn't be a lie to say that most of the inspiration came from their fiance. Along the light wooden table were several mason jars, filled with resin and containing small clay people. Upon closer inspection, Jackie noticed that the people were the couple and their friends that were coming to the party. Chase, Henrik, Anti, Jameson, Marvin, and Jackie suspended in the colored liquids, each resin colored to match each person's favorite color (or as close as Marv could get it). So this is why they were asking everyone what their favorite colors were.

"Woah, so this was why you bought all those mason jars..." The nerd laughed as he stood straight up again, looking at the person next to them, who was still giddy with excitement over their creations. "Is this why you've been cooped up in here every chance you got?"

"Mhm!" Marvin nodded, their lavender curls bouncing along with their head. They carefully picked up the purple tinted jar that contained their clay version, turning it around in their hands. "It nearly took all the clay and resin I had to make these. It doesn't help that I also messed up the resin for Chase's jar the first time, too many bubbles. I also tried getting a neat effect for Anti where blood would be coming out of xis neck, but I just couldn't get it right." They then looked over at Jackie. "I figured we could put these out on one of our shelves, and everyone can take their own jar home. Hopefully to just display and not try to break their mini counterparts out." They laughed softly and set the jar in their hands back on the table. Now that their hands were empty Jackie pulled Marvin into a hug.

"Sometimes I can't believe how talented you are." Jackie laughed softly, leaning up enough to leave a kiss on the other's lips. A wonderful bubblegum flavor, they must have had chap stick on. "Maybe I can try and get some wood and lights and make a custom display for these. It feels like they should be lit up instead of just standing on a shelf."

That thought only Made Marv's excitement grow, their dark brown eyes practically sparkling from joy. Oh, did they look so pretty when they got this happy. "I would literally love you for the rest of time if you did that." Jackie gave a laugh in response, returning the kiss he had been given a moment ago.

"Guess I've got my own crafting project to work on."

....or stand au, cause the humanized versions are the stands but that's besides the point buT YEAHHH not everything is complete, but that's the fun about it, i just want you to read some of my thought process and maybe you can help me fill some blanks x3

General Info About The Stands:

The locomotives and other vehicles are alive! i don't know why (yet?), so moving on. All of them can manifest a human form called Stand, they are shaped like that because engines always think on what could be the most useful. Engines and Stands co-exist so we can have double the blorbos! Two of Them™ :D! They work togheter and are either a good moral compass that helps their desicion making for what would be best or enablers agents of chaos, it depends of the mood, circumstances, if they've been bothered by another engine, etc.

Stands may look human but they're definitely not humans. The grey skin is the first giveaway; then there's the fact that they can hover, basically float like a couple of cms off the air and be (almost) as fast (also strong) as their locomotive counterparts so they can follow them as they steam along the railway~. Tho they usually just sit on the boiler, another thing a human couldn't do, plus they control their tangibility at will, so waist-down can be tangible to sit on top of the train while leaving the rest of the body untangible thus unnaffected by the wind caused by the high speeds.

I'm not thinking too deeply about their digestive systems but they can eat pretty much everything... as long as it can be easily destroyed by fire. So apart from being able to consume their fuel by mouth they can enjoy "human food" if they so desire. Among... other things.

I haven't decided on distance ranges but they do differ depending on the type of ability or lack thereof

「STAND MASTER」: Thomas

「STAND NAME」: Ride The Blue Limbo

Ability: Shadow Travelling. He can enter a shadow and come out of a different one. He's invisible and bidimensional during the travelling but one can see the movement around, like if he is going through a path with rocks you'd see the rocks moving, just not who is moving them.

「STAND MASTER」: Edward

He doesn't have an ability besides the human form, but some people say that its a lack of aging. Will expand on the character sheet coming this millenium A

「STAND MASTER」: Henry

「STAND NAME」: Niwashi King

Ability: Botanokinesis. Can creat and manipulate fertile soil and the plants that can grow out of it, including concrete. The speed on which the grow depends on the final size (ie. grass grows in an instant but a tree could only spark a small branch look in a minute).

「STAND MASTER」: Gordon

「STAND NAME」:

Ability: Fast Travelling. It kinda looks like teleportation, with the way he stands in one place and then he is 100mts away but it is just running/hovering really fast 'cause it can be caught on camera.

「STAND MASTER」: James

「STAND NAME」:

Ability: Red Glitter. He can produce glitter out of his hands which not only makes him sparkle and look even more dashing as he goes by but also can be a great distraction weapon. Imagine getting that shit in your eyes. Terrible! It dissapears after 30 mins.

「STAND MASTER」: Percy

「STAND NAME」: Fly Away

Ability: Flying. xd.

「STAND MASTER」: Toby

「STAND NAME」: Caramell (yes THAT Caramell xd)

Ability: Much like a cat, he can fit his body in very small things, as long as his head fits. Very flexible the old champ

「STAND MASTER」: Donald/Douglas

「STAND NAME」: [name of vinyl record] Side A/B

Ability: Foresight/Hindsight. Whoever is the funni one has the foresight of 10 seconds, so it's usually used like this. The sane one has the hindsight ability which is mostly him saying "you shouldn't have done that" ............ i don't know which is which i am a dissapointment to this fandom i'll try to do better ówò

「STAND MASTER」: Oliver

「STAND NAME」: Mr. Worldwide

Ability: Multilanguage understanding. Another fact of locomotives and stands is that since they don't have ears, spoken communication is done by feeling vibrations and lip-reading. So Oliver's ability consists in being able to understand the lip movements and vibrations of all other languages

「STAND MASTER」: Emily

「STAND NAME」: Plastic Beach

Ability: Circular Saws she can summon at will replacing her hands or feet. They have a radius of her forearms.

「STAND MASTER」: Nia

「STAND NAME」: Asheru MEGALOPOLIS PATROL HELL YEAH SOUL'D OUT IS FINALLY HERE GREATEST REFERENCE OF ALL TIME EVERYTHING CONNECTS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ability: Creating chairs (one at a time) or any sitting furniture she can lift. They can be used for anything she wants, but they are usually used as throwing weapons

Zelik Lindemann from Mother Keeper

People of the jury, I am a simple man. Eight years ago, I met Zelik. And I have loved him since that day. What more could be asked of a man - a blorbo, if you will - than to be 165cm tall, and able to punch a wall down in a single blow? What more could be asked, than loyalty across decades? To be beaten, scarred, to lose an arm, and to go back because people need him. To be beloved by all who've worked with him. And when he makes a promise, even if he wasn't the one that broke it, he will fulfil the punishment he agreed to.

And to put me in the awful situation of being unable to write fics because I share a name with the man I ship him with. And because Mother Keeper gave me everything I could ever want.

Sougo is just a little serotonin machine. I see him and I am filled with joy. I love him. He's everything. He wants to be king, one that is good and kind, despite being destined for evil. In his heart, he's a bastard. A master of getting people to do what he wants. He shows no hesitation in having Woz serve him, perfectly willing to call him on a whim. He'll command armies of destruction without wincing. But he's so sweet and loves his friends so much. But he'll never give up his dream for them. They simply need to learn why his dream is so great.

Until it's Heure. No dream is worth losing Heure.

3. The Light In The Darkness, The Midnight Sun

Shun Kageyama from Kamen Rider Kabuto

I wrote a whole essay on my feelings about Kageyama's plot and how he is in fact a fantastic leader. I will stan endlessly.

But also he's so small and Uchiyama Masato is just so cute (he's still cute he makes me 🥺)

4. 虎ーちゃん！！こっちこっち！！！

Satoru Tojo from Kamen Rider Ryuki

Like, Ryuki is already a masterpiece but I think about Tojo specifically so much. He's just a fucked up little guy! Sensei look at me! Sensei are you proud of me? Sensei, I can be the hero you want. Sensei, if a hero is one who sacrifices what they love and grows stronger for the greater good, I can do that. You were the most important person in my life, Sensei, so that's why I have to lose you.

He wants to be a hero so bad. But he wants to be a hero because he wants Sensei to be proud of him. Really, he wants sensei to give up his wife and family so he can have sensei's attention.

And he's such a poignant part of Ryuki's idea of people achieving their dreams, not through magic or miracles, but because they did something.

5. My Best Girl

Sweet-P from Caligula

I adore Sweet-P so much. She puts up with so much as being not only one of the oldest among the musicians but having to babysit Shadow Knife, Stork and Shonen Doll. Like what did she do to deserve that? She put up with so much in reality and now she's expected to play babysitter when she just wants to have tea parties with her friends!

I know people don't like Overdose, specifically related to her, but I actually really enjoyed her story. There's a lot she doesn't like about herself and her appearance. You get the feeling of someone who truly does feel they've left living their life for themself too late. And she has to work to overcome disliking herself, instead of trying to change herself. While Caligula is messy in things like its depiction of weight, Sweet-P ultimately puts focus on it not mattering. Her friends know they're fat but they're happy. They're more upset that the real world won't accommodate them or share in their happiness. Sweet-P can start to accept she doesn't have to give up one happiness to achieve another. She can transition and still eat what she loves. She just needs to do what makes her happy, not what she feels she has to do. It puts a real interest in what a character wants versus what a character needs. Sweet-P wants to be a cute (petite) girl. She needs to do what makes her happiest, even if it doesn't achieve what she wants.

6. My absolute disaster

Ike-P (Koike Tomoya) from Caligula

I can't go off as strong about the writing of Ike-P but I love him so much. He's a disaster. He's having his quarter-life crisis. He's been put in a group of weirdos because he doesn't want to go back to working his dead-end retail job when he wanted to be an idol. Unlike Sweet-P, he gets thrown in the deep end with people who are like yea let's blow stuff up and he's desperately going "wow is that a shark wow" to move on.

He's in so deep over his head.

But also his entire relationship with Izuru-

Zett from ToQger

ToQger, like Ryuki, is a masterpiece on purpose, and Zett is such a key part of that. He wants to be good. He loves the world, he loves everything he sees. He wants to be happy and a part of everything.

But he's trapped in a situation where he can't be happy, and he can't get free. He has to be the emperor of darkness. Everyone around him benefits from his misery so they will keep him miserable.

And he loved Right from the second he saw him. When he can't go to Right...

He'll bring Right to him.

And yet he doesn't want either of them to be miserable. He just wants out.

8. Another Big Cat and Sensei

Tatsuya Sudou and Akinari Kashihara from Persona 2 (Do NOT separate them)

I don't know what it is with big cats and their teachers but...

Obviously, my URL namesake and I feel bad that they're this low down the list. They're the root of my problem, after all. They're where it all began.

So much of their backstory is just hidden away in P2 (and let me tell you I adore P2 for how much missable content there is) but oh how I think about them. Akinari didn't do the right thing. But he wasn't evil. He did what he thought was right, and did his best. Tatsuya latched onto him and saw someone to lean on. Someone who cared for him when no one else would. Who didn't see him as a bother, but as someone amazing and special and he wasn't a monster - for just a little while. And Tatsuya would carry that on, seeing Akinari in Jun.

And Akinari's own life falls apart because he's trapped in a marriage he was never fully on board for but society pushed him into. Despite it, he loves his son and will do anything for him. AND I STAND BY AKINARI JUST WASN'T THE KIND OF MAN TO DIE HOW HE DID. I WILL NEVER ACCEPT THAT.

Also, I'm always thinking about how Sudou is so separated from Akinari-Nyarlathotep in the masked circle. Like he doesn't cling to that Akinari how he did the real one. I always feel like he knew and accepted no one would believe him on it.

I have been talking about him non-stop since SVSSS Vol 3 was originally meant to release but then it didn't so I just didn't shut up cause the brain worms were so strong. What am I meant to do???

I think LBH should be an honorary kitty cat for how much he loves his Shizun. He deserves to join the kitty cat club. He's just a big boy that cries a lot and is so desperate for love and attention. He needs headpats and to be housewifed. It's his preferred state of being but people aren't willing to accommodate that!! The world is too cruel to him!! And I want him to be so big and imposing to then hit people with his being a needy housewife

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): There is only one! The one and only! *aggressively waves at my icon* Armon Orlik!

It's the smile! It's the aloofness! It's the blatant scorn against social media! It's the talent coupled with skills and determination! It's the curls that he let grow out during lockdown and cut again for the new season! 😭 It's the fact that he's the only Schwinger who approximatively knows how to wear a suit!

I want him to be King so bad it's not even funny anymore. Also, he reminds me a bit of Sharl in more than one way: 1. He's his own worst critic, and nobody needs to remind him of his mistakes (quite the opposite). With Sharl it's the "I am stupid" from Baku, and with Armon it's the way he barely held it together after he lost the final round in Zug in 2016 that just makes me want to light the world on fire for them:

2. The nordostschweiz. Schwingverband is, at times, Ferrari-levels of incompetent and infighting, and whatever success they can celebrate on national levels are more despite the NOSV and not thanks to.

scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): A very fluctuating position. My OG scrunkly, when the term scrunkly was still one and half decade away from being coined, when tumblr did not exist yet and Schnappi was at the top of the charts, was Willy Graber. He's not a scrunkly anymore, in fact he's retired, but he'll always be my scrunkly. He was always among the smallest wrestlers but that never stopped him.

Sorry abt the quality. First one is from 2011 (I think) against Grab, second one is from 2019 with Walther at the celebration of his fifth and last eidg. Kranz.

After a long draught, my next scrunkly was Marcel Bieri. He picked up the slack for Zug when Reichmuth crumbled in 2019 and won all his fights on the first day.

He's had really bad luck with injuries since then, also he's been growing a Gasly-style beard (no picture), which...bby...no...but I still love him. 💖

Now that I'm old and spent, pretty much every baby-faced Neukranzer is my scrunkly. How are they allowed to fight when they're just so smoll?!?!

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): Benjamin Gapany. Nobody cares about him bc he's Fribourgeois and doesn't speak German that well. 😔

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): It's Schwingen, they're all obscure in the grand scheme. 🙈

poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): Joel Wicki. He knows that he's good. Unfortunately for the longest time he didn't know that he wasn't supposed to say it out loud. Tbh in any other sport his self-proclamations would be average, imo they don't sound that different than for example Odi's towards the end of the last season, furthermore they're true bc he usually is the best at every tournament he participates, but Schwingen is all about humility, and saying that you consider your performance good bc you won a fight automatically draws comparisons to Ibrahimovic. 🙄

Also the teamspirit in the Innerschweizer Verband is not the best not existing and it is a wonder he even reached the Schlussgang in Zug. With the exception of Schurtenberger, who kept Armon back (grr...), pretty much nobody helped him in any way.

Also also Stucki is about 20 cm taller and probably 50 kg heavier, and he had to fight him TWICE in Zug, all while carrying the expectations of the entire Innerschweiz.

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): Nobody, of course. 😂 They do that just fine on their own (see my last point)

eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): I don't have to send him, he's already in a superhell of his own making: Arnold Forrer, Schwingen's answer to Nico Rosberg. He spent his best years fighting against Abderhalden, and losing every time. He was crowned King in 2001 but he didn't even win then (final round was a draw and the jury declared him the winner), and when Abderhalden retired, he was past his prime. The reason why Nöldi hasn't retired yet is bc he wants to be the first man to win 150 wreaths (Kränze). He's been at 147 for the last three years (two if we're ignoring 2020), and it...does not look good. He's 43, has an artificial hip, and problems with his back...srlsy I can't overstate how impossible that goal is. It also feels so unnecessary, he's already record holder by a wide margin (second-most Kränze is Pellet with 136 and he retired long ago) with nobody in sight to beat him within the next decade. But he just does not want to give up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I think Carl*ndo fans are following the same path as s*wis ones. They're becoming annoying and I'm starting to think of blocking the tag. Honestly I don't even know how people can see L*ndo as a sexually interesting individual but that's another topic...

You're probably wondering wtf will you do with this ask and you're right... I don't even know myself... but I just wanted to tell someone and you just seemed the right person willing to listen.

Ahahabahababahaha.

Other than the self insert/reader imagine people, I don't think anyone who ships him with other guys are doing it actually because they find him sexy. Mostly, the shippers like XYZ guy sexually and Lando seems like the safest/most generic bet to ship with their hunk.

I don't know what goes in the mind of other people who are in the shipping culture, but as a writer and a shipper of many years, I get a certain level of "catharsis" thru what I write, thus I inadvertently project my desires/thoughts/experiences upon one of the "characters" of my choice.

I mean, I am generally the "Kimi" in my fics. Or Charles in my Lestappen fics/ideas, or Lando in my Norstappen ideas. I fancy Seb, that's why I think I project onto Kimi. With Max, I am way past the age to fancy these young guys, but I think it is due to how Max fits to a certain mold in my mind when I think of what I'd want in a guy or to downright whom I see as the "top" in the said relationships. Also, I love Max the most among these guys; so, as I said, Chal and Lando's characters turn into my mirror/blank slate/tool for lack of a better word.

I do this projection/using a device/tool thing with respect and lovingly whereas their haters just use them as pretty bodies to exploit their irl chemistry/connection to live out their own "worlds" easily and in a popular way that they can connect with others while doing so as opposed to writing Mary Sues with their meow meows who everyone hates because "she" is specific and not someone everyone can reflect some part of their own upon as fandom headcanons about characters' irl selves and relationships slowly turn into widely accepted truths. Finding a common quirk that you'd like in an already existing person/character is easier. Using them as tools to explore your fantasies with your chosen blorbos is way more easier.

But when you actually love the said guy/character, witnessing the way some people treat them hurts and then angers you. So, distancing yourself from that group and doing your thing is the best.

I am not a Pokemon fan, I don't play the video games, I don't watch the cartoons, I haven't collected the cards since around 2005 and I've never played with them either, I haven't memorize a thousand names, I don't know the lore, I don't get excited for starter reveals, I am completely checked out of this franchise...

...but I really want some of the Gen 1 plushies because they're just adorable. Going through the list, my favorite designs are Bulbasaur, Sandshrew, Zubat, Oddish, Paras, Venonat, Diglett, Poliwhirl, Abra, Bellsprout, Magnemite, Doduo, Drowzee, Krabby, Cubone, Koffing, Tangela, Staryu, Ditto, Eevee, Porygon, Omanyte, Snorlax, Dratini, and Mew (with my top 10 super favorites in red)

They're from somebody else's show, but that doesn't mean they're not my blorbos. Is that a thing? Is that what the kids are saying nowadays? Did I use that right?

My problem is that if I collect these ones, everyone will assume I must be a fan of the rest, and I'm just not into the franchise for anything besides a handful of cute designs. I don't care about the characters or the battles or the leagues or any of it. I don't know, I don't want to know, I just want to be left alone with my weird little pocket mans. Is that too much to ask? I'm not a fan, I'm not even a fake fan who pretends to be one, I'm just some guy who likes cute things. I've never played Among Us but I like those little blobby dudes too. Sue me.

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) riki and reyn I think, people make memes of them and they're well liked but I think their depth as characters go underappreciated... sharla too! she was shafted so hard by the devs, she has the same character motive as shulk!! but they kinda just threw away most potential out the window to make her have weird romance undertones with reyn

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) linada :) I'm handshake meme at that one dev that was obsessed with her vanea too, I think she and sharla should kiss

poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) egil (you know this. he even kind of has cat ears), shulk as well because (slaps top of he) this little man can fit so much trauma in him

horse plinko mumkhar, zanza, dunban to an extent but only bc it's fun to make divorce jokes about him and mumkhar

I've cried because of him two (2) times oboro from the ninja quests too, he's like the poor little meow meow to end all poor little meow meows of the job quest givers, noone appreciates him and he always gets put in Situations (granted, they're hysterical. but still) sidurgu again (EMPHASIS ON THE 'POOR' PART.
