finally getting back to playing violin and im having such a hard time tuning it. the tuning pegs keep sliding out of place. its always had this problem because its an old violin and i think it was broken at some point near the A string tuning peg, there's a couple cuts in the wood and i remember my Dad having to get it fixed when i first started playing it in 7th grade. its an old family heirloom. im really worried actually because im probably going to have to get a new violin at some point, preferably one that's more my level, and that shit is Expensive.

I've been thinking more about what would comic villians be like if they were the main threat in animated movies made with accual passion to them and it has been really fun untill i got to phantom blot and my mind started to make me eat the walls cuz oooooo the ideas The ideas are being thrown at me by me

I've been thinking of a theme for sylvester I figured his main instruments would be a bass, a woodwind section some piano and strings, I also thought about him having 2 themes, one for his facade of being a kind lawyer just trying to help ya out and one for him accualy being him and stealing thevin taking whats not his from anyone anywhere in a manipulitive ways that probably made some accual shady lawyers go "he just like me fr" I also think his themes could be pretty slow because I think the most fun scenes with sylvester are the ones when he's explaining his plans or making them and a slow theme could give you that vibe of something sinister brewing in his mind, and I think his clothes being animated symiliary to rasputins clothes from anastasia, that being you can see its animated frame to frame and looks very light his probably woudnt went that far, mostly bc his clothes arent that loose and they arent so hanhing and long if you know what I mean?

despite pete already having multiple themes bc he's just such of an old character and he has appeared in many animated projects and movies [musketer pete ily] I thought about a theme for him too, i thought a guitar or a bancho would be nice and some drums something simple I think a simple theme with pretty basic instuments would be good for pete because I personaly think he has those alley cat vibes, theres not much to look around for motivations and his plans are usually not mindblowing but thats what makes him so charming to me, he's a simple man and I simply love <3

and I've been thinking about phantom blot and I mean the early and these creepy not jokey apperances of his the most,they really stand out to me and have a special place in my head, with animation I thought it would be really good to have his whole animation be frame to frame and have him slowly linger over characters as they themselfs don't see him but we just see him linger over them probably taking over a good chunk of the screen animated to smoothly and slowly that it makes us uneven it's hard to explain in words so I thought of accualy making a little animation showing what I mean

but then I thought of the theme for him...and I realized, the best theme for the phantom blot would be nothing, silence in its purest form a white noise possibly appearing would be of comfort, It would really make you feel the PHANTOM in phantom blot

Satan & Violins

I share a lot of similarities with Satan, even when before they canonized something about him; one of them being violinist!Satan😭 In spite of me having a mini identity crisis following the drop of his canon violinist card, i think it makes sense! heres why.

The violin and its family, unlike other string instruments (ex. the guitar), doesnt have these little things (that i forgor the name of because im a bad musician) that separates every note. those little separating thingies are the reason why people who dont know shit about playing a key on guitar but memorize musical scales (me) is at least able to strum a simple one octave melody.

Obviously, the two come in with their one difficulty (i prefer the violin myself), but it's a little bit harder to pull that trick with the violin. As you can see, theres not exactly something to tell you where each note begins or where they end. Nothing to determine where is where. You simply have to memorize the placement and the distance between each note. You basically play the violin with Your Gut (1). We'll keep this in mind for now.

Moving on, let's talk about body posture.

Beginner violinist usually directlty face towards the strings when playing, as they aren't used to letting their 'gut' lead the show. However, more experienced players would find no need to do so. A quick glance at Satan's art could tell us he was at least above beginner level to be brave enough to face (us) instead.

When you're not facing your violin, you would usually lean your head towards it, resulting in your ear becoming the closest thing to it- here's a real life example:

Now, if there was anything my teacher warned me before starting violin, is that even without having your ear be the closest thing to it, the strings are already LOUD😭 so its even louder when you alr have ur ear on it. The violin is considered one of the most emotional instruments ever, their lower sound resemble what we use to express sadness in speech. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, you as a player are forced to feel what you're playing. Thus is also why you play the violin with Your Heart (2).

So, how does this tie into Satan? It's no secret that our handsome man is incredibly romantic, and to me if he ever wants to express something to us and making sure the message is clearly received, the equally emotional violin is his best bet! The violin allows Satan to play heartwrenching notes that would quickly be felt by the listener.

Lets get technical.

There's still another side of the violin, as there is another side to Satan. The way you stroke your bow matters, the way you angle it so you'll only hit the notes you want. (thankfully if you mess up, the violin is made to still sound graceful😂). Satan too, is quite the detail oriented person. He is tactical, analytical, observant, a man obsessed with striving to be the perfect one, etc etc. The need of preciseness of the violin is definitely right up his alley. The way you need everything to be correct to be rewarded for a beautiful sound. Idk exactly where I'm going with this but it's basically intelligence meets emotion kinda thing, do you see it too?!?!

In conclusion, the violin is a wonderful instrument that both requires great attention to detail yet is also incredibly emotional and heartfelt, an instrument that requires your gut and heart guide your play without abandoning technique. Satan, the incredibly smart yet fluffy softie, is quite literally made for this and I LOVE HIM for that RAAAAAAHHHH. im normal.

Scars: Listened to this one the second it was officially released, so i've had some time to listen to it !!!and . ough. its so good. i love when the crane wives make angry songs <3 really REALLY happy that they've incorporated violin into their newer songs too. the subtle shriek halfway through, the buildup near the end....GRAH (and i know they did on past albums but tbh they did not include them Enough. i love the violin <3)

Bitter Medicine: another one that was released ahead of the full album! also very good. reminds me a lot of the queen of nothing, mainly because of "someone take my keys im in no shape for driving" vs "stop the car, i wanna get out". and the AH AH OH AH OH'S NEAR THE END. YES !!! THEYRE SO FUN TO SING ALONG WITH I LOVE THEM. and the instrumentals. GRAAAAAH !!! the electric guitar (?) at the end is AMAZING.

Higher Ground: right off the bat i loved the instruments. and then when they start singing? INCREDIBLE. the vocals for this one are so so so good. like im actually in love with them, especially the first "should i head for higher ground". and its also like. very upbeat and fun. it makes me want to run around and just get myself Moving somehow. AND THE SUBTLE STRINGS IN THE BACKGROUND AS THE SONG BUILDS UP!!! i love the plucking, it so. hrgahgrhahghr. and once again. THE VIOLIN. I LOVE THE VIOLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Predator: i came into this song expecting something similar to the hand that feeds, so it was MUCH different than i anticipated! and honestly, i love it so much?? the guitar...? whatever funky instrument thats all wobbly is. sounds so fun. and i love the vocals so much they scratch at my brain. THE CLAPPING TOO. ITS SO FUN. another one that makes me want to get up and run around or dance <3

Say It: i was excited for this one! my friend heard it live and absolutely loved it, so i'd heard a lot about it going in. its a lot calmer than i was expecting but ohhh its so good. "please dont leave me in the dark, praying for a wayward spark" augh. ough. gruahgrh. "IF YOU COULD WOULD YOU ERASE ME. ERADICATE ME FROM YOUR MIND." RAAAAAAHHHH.

Mad Dog: another song i heard good things about! i was expecting something high energy and BOY did it not disappoint. obsessed with the pace of the beginning vocals, they sound like so much fun to sing i cant wait to learn the lyrics. AND THEN. THE CHORUS!!! OHHHH. THE ECHOES OF RUNNING AND COMING. IM GONNA EXPLODE. THEY SCRATCH MY BRAIN SO WELL. and the funky instrument in the back that i think is maybe a guitar but i cant tell....its so good and funky and oh my god i love the crane wives. honestly, this is probably one of my favorites of the album. its so good. i need to tear something apart with my teeth

Arcturus Beaming: i heard this song live back when i went to their concert in april, and oh my GOD. genuinely this song changed me i think. it rearranged my atoms. it means so much to me i literally love this song, even if the instrumentals arent my favorite out of the rest of the album i cannot put it any lower than my absolute favorite. THERES MORE TO LIFE THAN SUFFERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time Will Change You: and this song. right off the bat its INCREDIBLE. the steady beat in the back. the guitar. the vocals. and just . the general Vibes. AND THEN. AND THEN !!!! THE STRINGS. HOLY FUCKING SHIT THE STRINGSSS. THE SECOND I HEARD THEM I LOST MY MIND. they are SO pretty and THIS is exactly why i wanted the crane wives to use strings in their songs more. they include them SO well. AND AUGH. THE INSTRUMENTAL HALFWAY THROUGH....AND THE VOCALS BEHIND IT....AND AGAIN!!! THE STRINGS !!!! this is SUCH a pretty song and it blew me away the first time i listened to it

Black Hole Fantasy: i wasnt entirely sure what to expect going into this song so i was a bit surprised by the introduction- and then it just kept getting better. right off the bat it reminded me of arcturus beaming, and then the general story of the song.... just. the feeling of aching so desperately for a better life, but being afraid to take that first step because you dont want to face the risks that come with it..... i genuinely almost cried listening to it, especially as the song began to ramp up. the fantasy of taking that chance but still being afraid. AND THEN. AND THEN!!!!! "AND NOW SHES LAUGHING, AND ITS KILLING ME THAT I CANNOT SEE WHATS MAKING HER LAUGH FROM WHERE IM STANDING." AND THE SUBTLE BUILD UP OF STRINGS IN THE BACK AS THE SONG RAMPS UP FURTHER. AND YOU FINALLY TAKE THAT CHANCE, TAKE THAT FIRST STEP. AAUEUEUAGHHHH. GOD!!!!!!!!!!

Red Clay: going into this song, i was expecting something with the vibes of the icarus or keep you safe, and i wasnt disappointed!!! BUT BEFORE I COULD REALLY PROCESS THE BEGINNING, I GET COMPLETELY BLIND SIDED BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN EMILEE OR KATE SINGING. im not entirely sure who it is, my best guess is dan, but its so so good. something about red clay is so specifically nostalgic for me, and for it to play right after black hole fantasy just. completely destroyed me/pos this song is so so pretty. i love it so much.

River Rushing: AND IMMEDIATELY IM HOOKED. again, i expected something high energy/upbeat like sleeping giants- and while its not the exact same, its similar, and i LOVE IT. the vocals are probably my favorite part, especially the backing vocals. BUT OH MY GOD THOSE HIGH NOTES. THEYRE SO GOOD. a VERY strong ending for the album, which i absolutely adored

The music student in my mind goes crazy when I think of what the themes for MCD characters could be

I always think about this and it’s been taking over my brain. So here themes I envision for the MCD characters

Laurence

His theme would be a tragedy. Something that foreshadows and hints to the pain that awaits him. Theres a low hum of bass and horns, slowly growing until it overwhelms the accompaniment. Reflecting his suppressed shadow knight abilities, the instincts that wail louder each day.

There’s a recurring chord progression played on a piano, a soft hopeful sound. It shines through the menacing bass, his humanity prevailing against the odds.

Eventually though, The bass and horns win out. but that chord always sings quietly.

Garroth

His theme is quieter than anyone else’s. He hides who he is, so his theme hides aswell.

Woodwinds carry the melody, a quiet and gentle song that speaks to who he is. Garroth puts other before himself, but he’s selfish in a twisted way. He protects his identity and heart by burying it deep.

The melody would fade when he looses himself. Brass takes over the melody, it’s pitch is lowered and blends into the accompanying instruments.

It prevails in the end, Strings and Woodwinds playing together in harmony as he finally accepts who he is.

Aphmau

Her and Irene have complimentary themes. Irene’s is haunted by an organ and twinkling music box. It’s hollow, she feels nothing so her sound lacks life.

Aphmaus is lively, The themes is played by a piano and violin, hopeful and strong. It ebbs and flows naturally, like the wind or ocean waves.

Her theme dims when she is losing her will. Her determination is the driving force behind everything she does, when she loses motivation the music becomes distorted.

The distortion mimics Irene’s theme. the hollow organ and haunting music box invading and playing alongside the Violin and Piano.

Eventually they blend together, Irene’s theme becomes complete and regains its energy. Because Aphmau and Irene are meant to meld together, two incomplete halves become whole.

- buy your tickets at the right side!! orpheus does run up next to the crowd to climb some metal scaffolding(?) to run up to eurydice after flowers, but in the defense of the left side -- eurydice stands there pretty often and so does hermes so you get full melanie all the time which is a dream and also holy shit you can just see orpheus in front of you for doubt comes in as he starts panicking

- god they really make donal run and sing and he does it full body

- wow melanie really gives her all the entire time shes on stage the silent moments she has with eurydice especially after hey little songbird is like oh my god

- also i wanted the lights to swing over my head so so bad

- god the lighting tony win is so fucking deserved its so fucking CRAZY how full body the experience of the lights are

- during our lady of the underground gloria reached out and touched someones bald head in the front row shes so fucking funny

- also i just kept hearing from the people around about how good gloria is once the show is done and theyre so right

- absolutely no notes for madeline she was absolutely great (i could literally see her shake during chant i and hey little songbird) she sang "orpheus" before she went back down after doubt comes in which was a big OOF for me

- the parallel between eurydice learning the dance from the workers during livin it up on top and her learning the moves during why we build the wall omg

- when orpheus makes the little newspaper flower it has a little stalk in the middle of it unlike broadway

- during olotu, when persephone introduces the keyboardist he does the little pierre "no i am enjoying myself at home this evening" fist pump

- gloria's single tear post chant ii is fucking killer.

- also hades does a little funny shimmy during lover's desire like i wonder if every hades and persephone has a slightly different dance? bc i dont rmb some of those moves

- when hermes sings "and that is how it ends" orpheus just collapses.... my poor beloved poet!!

- i guess i also didn't really realise how hurt orpheus is by the time doubt comes in happens orpheus as a little stumble by the time he starts epic iii and hes so so greviously hurt by then already

- this orpheus doesn't have the Classic red tied bandana it's more like just a piece of non-patterned red cloth around his neck. he wear a necklace (which i will emphasise so much i so desperately want to know what it is -- the stage is so fucking high i couldn't get a clear view of it) which had two pendants of things that i couldn't see and a black (iron?) ring on his middle finger if im not wrong

-the red carnation that appears doesn't have leaves or a stem unlike the broadway version that ive seen its just petals that appear in orpheus' and hades' hands

-if ure a west end enthusiast like i am u would already know but hermes has a pocket watch now that she checks periodically and its a big reoccurring thing

-when persephone leaves for up top in act 1 zachary hades is like slouched iirc -- i think zachary plays up the business man aspect of hades and also hades' underlying sadness whereas i think other hadeses have more anger within them with some sadness popping up periodically

-orpheus during epic iii when the workers start singing with him had a little smile/relief before he went back to being in Extreme Pain

the whitebeard pirates are now seated encompassing a bonfire at the stygian, silent night. despite the loud crackles of the bonfire and the rowdy drunk men around you, all you can hear and focus on is the freckled man three feet away from you.

he had a guitar resting on his lap, as he sat cross-legged on some logs you guys set up not too long ago. strumming whilst singing, smiling and stealing glances at you from time to time. you were singing along with the crew, but it felt as if it was just only the two of you under the full moon.

ace was currently singing 'marry you' in the most gentle and suave voice, accompanied by the soft strumming of his guitar. you rested your elbow on your knees and your chin on your palm, smiling softly as you mused at him. once you caught his eyes, you smiled even wider giving an 'ok' sign to assure him of how well he was doing. he fumbled up a little with the chords, but made it seem like an adlib. with the snickers from the group, you also threw your head back laughing; so in love with him.

you downed even more liquor and before you know it, it was only you and ace left outside before the bonfire. you were seated closer now, you two were seated facing each other on the sand beside the fire. you admired the giddy man before you, happily strumming on his guitar while smiling toothily at you. singing along with the brightest grin and eyes full of love in him and yours' own little world.

ace's heart thundered in his chest, incessantly screaming in his head to continue impressing you and playing for you, relentlessly reminding himself to not fuck up in front of the person he loves. although, he would gladly screw up if it would make you laugh. to see you giggle, snicker, or show any form of happiness before him, his heart just blooms with so much love. so much love he could only feel and foresee from you.

ive loved it since i first heard it in project diva x years ago, but listening to Tsumi no Namae again (with slightly higher quality headphone audio rather than my vita speakers <3 ) i didnt realize just how crazy the production choices of this song is. wait hold on lemme hashtag musicpost for a minute. im busting out the timestamps

immediate tone setting. bagpipes??? or something like that right out the gate which is wild. clock winding, gear crunching, and real human woman whispering (i think in english but ive never been able to find official lyrics of that section) as well <3 im a sucker for using human voices with synth voices i think it adds a lot of neat texture

the instrument choices lean into a fantasy musical-esque soundscape for obvious reason (the whole song is basically a little original fable or myth type story complete with trickster goddesses and breaking fate's curses etc etc) but the composition is plenty pop rock which is a fun juxtaposition im always a fan of but like SPECIFICALLY those drums that start around a minute in. im not sure what it is, the speed? how loud and hard the drums are? it works so well to give it a forward momentum while also being a bit uncanny. maybe im just imagining how tired the drummers arms would be hitting at that speed and with that amount of power for this long........ but yeah it gives it this unexpected, sorta otherworldly feel, like its just a fraction of a fraction faster than you'd assume. theres like hints of clapping and stuff in there too i think? so much all together but so so so good

and speaking of how tired those drummers arms would be, i do love that this song is six and a half minutes, i love stuff over 5 minutes like YES i am going to waste SO MUCH TIME staring into space and listening really hard (i like to listen to songs on loop <3 half an hour is gonna go away in just a few plays) i love love love love love it

hmmmmm.. it goes without saying i think it would have a special fondness for classical music, given their levels, BUT i also just think thatd be itd fav genre in general

i imagine v2 had alot more room in its datalogs for stuff related to human culture & like. General appreciation withthe world around it. having an instrument was probably a luxury during the great peace, but considering v2 was expensive to make, it was subjected to said luxuries ! why nottt put a few gigabytes of tunes in there

serenade for strings - dvořák i can see as one as its favs alongside debussy & bach & gimse especially. it could feasibly play the piano & enjoys music with it, but something about string instruments has always intrigued it... theres a difference between itself simply pressing buttons and seeing someone else BREATHING & moving with a violin as if it was an extension of themselves

v2 out of all the machines would have the most appreciation for music, linking it to humanity & wanting to preserve the last few scraps of it. it was made with enough vocalization to be able to sing daisy bell if it wanted - but never rlly wanted to. it wasnt made to be an instrument, and much rather would listen to a recordings than itself

Im gonna ramble in your inbox for a bit lmao, I have a few ideas!

What about music themed?? Like music notes, treble clef, etc (idk a lot about musical notation honestly but ik theres a lot of symbols). My next thought was instruments but usually those are super detailed, like string and brass? A Harp?? The simplest i can think is like, some piano keys would make a cute design, or maybe just the headstock of a guitar! God, brass instruments would be so intense to make, i just looked at a saxaphone and I'm freaking out thinking of the detail and how impressive that would be. Or maybe physical media like a vinyl record or a little cassette tape? A little boombox, record player, or radio?

Going off of that, I think people really like decade themed/nostalgic stuff. I love 70s things personally so i may just be projecting, but i think 80s and 90s vibes are super popular! You could look at toys, technology, icons, and popular colors of an era, things like that and that might be inspiring!

Also thinking about summer themed designs since summer is coming up! Seasonal stuff is so cute and I notice people are always looking for little seasonal projects! Surfboards, beach umbrella, a fruity lil drink, are things that come to mind for me!

The more i write the more ideas i think of but this ask is already huge lmaooo so ill leave with these and hopefully its not overwhelming

Musical instruments and notation are both perfect and super hard for the format. They're so detailed, like you said, and their design is so specific; it's hard to know what can be fudged or elided without getting the whole thing irredeemably wrong. (I've had the same problem with birds and arthropods). Like, how many of the saxophone's fourteen-hundred eldritch appendages *do* I need to show? I could include them all, and the motif would be the size of a bedspread and take a month and a half to crochet, and I perversely want to do that now so thanks also for that.

Even in that keyboard motif (which, you'll have to trust me, is a very good likeness of Casio keyboard whose demo song was the soundtrack to my early childhood) is already over twice width of my largest typical designs, and it would have to be twice as big still for me to space the keys accurately.

Decades are a great organizing conceit! They lend themselves to a kind of idiosyncratic hodgepodge that really appeals to me, and "random collection of old things that you remember" is a trope people don't seem to ever get sick of—and new things are getting old every day. They're also a way to ease into pop culture references, which I haven't really done, and which might offset some of my Debbie-Downer tendencies (when you suggested "70s things" my actual first thought was "what do quaaludes even look like?" My first idea for the 80s was "Margaret Thatcher demolishing a council house," and my thought process for the 90s went "Monica Lewinsky's dress, OJ Simpson's gloves, Tonya Harding's crowbar… NAFTA?" Terrible patches, all. What people want as a little picture of a sofa at a jaunty angle with a caption that says "PIVOT!").

Anyway. I'm especially excited to try the disco ball, the record and the off-brand Tamagotchi (I preferred Gigapets, personally). Those all have double-length diagonals that I've freehanded a few times and know to work at least okay, but which I haven't figured out how to notate. Oh! and I haven't got a beach umbrella that I like just yet, but the hurricane cocktail seems like a good way to kick off a summer collection—as long as I don't follow it up with, like a graph of yearly average temperatures, which is something I would absolutely do.

❤️ - How did your muse come to realize their romantic and sexual orientations? Was it difficult to accept? Are they proud of who they are?

Butch came to realize his attractions weren’t conventional somewhere in his early teens; whether this is due to some negative experiences he’s had is unknown, and there unfortunately were plenty. Men didn’t exactly jump at the opportunity back then, repressed by cultural expectations and all, and flirting would often end in a violent exchange—eventually he just started taking it in stride, taking what he could get… though that was years after strictly sticking to women for a long while.

He began to view sex as sex and attraction as just that, attraction. He found that he had “types” but they weren’t at all limited to gender. Though this took quite a while for him to fully grasp this part of him. Often times, after the fact, shame is still present but he’s not open about any of it. Ever.

It was very difficult for him to accept considering the time period he’s from and the heavy expectation from his father who was very toxic and one note about masculinity and how life was “supposed” to be. Live, work hard, make a family, and encourage the next of kin to do the same.

I wouldn’t at all say he’s proud of who he is; there’s a lot of self hatred and disgust intertwined with how he goes about his affairs and relationships with others, it’s just easier to ignore in the moment.

🎸 - Can your muse play any instruments? Do they play them often, or rarely? How actually skilled are they at playing them?

Butch’s main instrument is the guitar, though because of this, he can play near any stringed instrument within reason. A banjo, a bass, and a ukelele being main ones… he’s real good with his fingers! Man can play Roundabout by Yes near perfectly if ever given the opportunity if that tells you anything, lmao.

Since entering the 21st century and catching up on everything he’s missed out on, you can imagine his mind was blown when he learned he didn’t have to physically go somewhere to see a live band to hear to music. While he has tastes for all kinds of music, his favorite no doubt are cheesy over dramatic 80’s classic hits. He's a sucker for old country and country rock too, but theres something about the passion in those 80's hits that gets him.

aux cord would definitely be taken away; mans the type or person to put the same song on REPEAT 10 times because it gives him the same level of seretonin every time.
