#but there community things we need to work out

Look, unfortunately, Santa is actually right.
And I think it's a means of our survival.
We need to entrench ourselves in our communities, fortify our bonds, recruit sympathizers. We start where it's safe, but we start exposing these people to the fact that we're not disposable, that we're not some scapegoat.
So let's reframe "disagreeing yet remaining friends."
You don't need to agree, nor "be friends" with bigoted ideologues to practice what the Santa account is saying.
Treating them as a friend is a performance (as many human social customs are). Be polite and be interested in their personal lives, what matters to them, what they're excited for, what they're afraid of. be known in your community, whether it's as a flashy character that's a staple of the local alternative bar, or as someone who walks their dog around the neighborhood. Find ways to display your artwork somewhere in town. Do favors for people.
You can refuse to engage with the horrible bigotry.
Rejection is a subtle means of advertising "this is intolerable and I will not engage with you if you continue." If somebody brings up something volatile, simply excuse yourself to get some water. You can leave outright, or you can return and try to shift the conversation. It is very difficult to do this when the current climate is about LIFE AND DEATH to us, but it is possible. This is a means of survival. Tread carefully and keep yourself safe. Let people understand you as a being before they know you as an extension of your identity.
On a wider scale, people NEED to be exposed to these larger topics other than through rightwing propaganda.
Experiencing queer people is far better if it's firsthand. "The supreme leader hath given us a new Scapegoat" works because they have completely MONOPOLIZED the narrative of who we are to our communities. They listen to the Heritage Foundation propaganda because that's the only depiction they've seen. Yes, some of this is out of their own ignorance and malice, but you DO have the power to change minds.
People also need to experience WEIRD SHIT that isn't hurting ANYONE.
There are unironically people who hate us just because their entire perception of us is manufactured by third parties. We all have the power to change perceptions in little ways. For example, I dress up like a punk werewolf and walk to a local alternative bar through a park and bustling downtown, even past an ice cream shop. It paints a massive target on me that says "IM WEIRD, LOOK AT ME." It is terrifying and I am incredibly uncomfortable the entire walk, but I'm exposing people to my gender queer ass in the periphery (I have the privilege to do this for many reasons; I'm not exactly living in my old, conservative, shitty hometown. Your mileage may vary). I am become Exposure Therapy.
You don't have to save the world, you just have to save yourself.
Again, we must ENTRENCH ourselves in our communities. We must forge bonds that our communities don't want to sever. Take root and prepare for the storm. Your efforts alone won't save the world, but if we can all just become a valued part of the life of 1 single detractor, that would have drastic effects on the national perspective of our movement.
Isolation is the end-bringer.
Just find one thing to agree with someone on. If they're deplorable, you can just agree that the weather is shitty, but through careful conversation and creative framing, you can easily get a hardcore MAGA fanatic to agree on culture and policy issues. We often want the same things, like freedom and prosperity. Find the NUGGET under the fascist shit and say, "we both want to be safe and with our families. We're not so different afterall."
LEGITIMIZE YOURSELF!!!

Noor's family of five once had a beautiful home, but it was destroyed by bombs and war. Because of constant displacement, she and her family have little left. Her children have few clothes and are sick! They live in a tent. Food is getting more expensive. Winter is on the horizon. They need your help!
Her daughter Rajaa was infected with hepatitis from malnutrition, her eldest son Hussein can no longer go to school, and her baby boy Youssef needs milk, diapers, and clean drinking water. Her husband, Ashraf suffered from a shoulder injury at the beginning of the war, and has lost his job because the place where he worked was destroyed—he worked as a math teacher at a school.
Noor's donation campaign is a testament to her strength and resilience. She struggles to communicate with me because of internet issues in Gaza, but has nonetheless conveyed this message, which I will now share with you:
"We will continue to live, continue to love, and continue to dream of a better tomorrow."
She loves her children, and thanks everyone who helps her. Please, she has raised only 24,270 / 40,000. I personally am so grateful to all who donated, but I will admit I am deeply saddened how much things have slowed. Like Noor, though, I believe in hope. I believe you can make a difference in her life, for her and her family.
Below, I have tagged individuals @nooranqar1 has requested me to. Her campaign is verified by @90-ghost, though her old account was deleted. See here: https://www.tumblr.com/90-ghost/753980516275994624/legit-fundraiser?source=share.

Aubrey plaza x fem!reader
" I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. "
- J.D. Salinger, The catcher in the rye
Part 1
Y/N blinked, trying to get her bearings in the soft morning light streaming into her bedroom. She wasn’t on the sofa anymore, and she certainly hadn’t fallen asleep in her bed last night. But here she was, tucked neatly under her comforter, and beside her, separated by a few pillows, lay Aubrey. She was asleep, her face softened by rest, her features even more striking in the early morning calm.
A smile crept across Y/N’s face as she studied Aubrey’s peaceful expression. She was undeniably beautiful—not just beautiful for her age, but in a way that felt timeless and grounded. It made Y/N’s stomach flutter, and a slight pang of insecurity hit her; Aubrey was everything Y/N admired—confident, talented, and effortlessly alluring.
Feeling her heart race at the thought of Aubrey waking up to see her staring, Y/N slipped out of bed as quietly as possible, padding to the bathroom for a quick shower. When she returned, she busied herself in the kitchen, quietly making breakfast. The faint hum of the radio kept her company as she toasted bread and scrambled eggs, relishing the simple, cozy act.
“Good morning,” a familiar voice murmured, soft and sleepy, breaking Y/N out of her thoughts.
Y/N turned, catching sight of Aubrey leaning against the doorway, her hair still mussed from sleep. She looked comfortable, yet somehow effortlessly poised, even in Y/N’s small kitchen. Y/N blushed, realizing how close they were.
“Good morning! Do you want something to drink?” Y/N asked, smiling. “I don’t really drink coffee, but I can go grab you some from the café around the corner if you’d like.”
Aubrey’s lips curved into a warm smile. “No need, this is perfect. I’m just happy to be here.” She stepped closer, glancing at the plates Y/N was setting up.
“So… not to rush you out, but I have a mountain of work today,” Y/N said with a small, guilty grin. “You’re welcome to stay, but just a heads-up—I might be a little boring.”
Aubrey laughed, her expression softening. “That’s okay, I get it. I have some things to get to anyway.” She hesitated, then continued, “But… I’d love to see you again, if you’d like that.”
Y/N’s face lit up, her smile wide and genuine. “I’d love that too.”
From then on, their connection only grew. They read together, taking turns with books y/n recommended, and spent hours talking about everything from their childhood dreams to favorite movies. After their third date—a late-night visit to a bookstore followed by a stroll through a quiet park—Aubrey walked Y/N home. They held hands, a shared warmth between them, and when they reached Y/N’s door, Aubrey leaned in, pressing a soft, gentle kiss to her lips. It was careful, as if reading Y/N’s shyness and matching it with tenderness.
As the days turned into weeks, they grew more comfortable, falling into each other’s lives seamlessly. Aubrey was patient, taking her time to get to know Y/N. She made Y/N feel safe, and Y/N adored every minute they spent together. Soon, they were FaceTiming in between meetings, texting about little things that made them think of each other, and finding moments to be together whenever they could.
When they finally crossed that last boundary, sharing their first night together, it was both gentle and passionate. They communicated, both eager yet considerate, learning each other’s wants and needs. Aubrey’s natural confidence took over, her assertiveness balanced by her desire to make Y/N feel loved and respected. Y/N, in turn, was just as attentive, savoring every moment with Aubrey, discovering a balance between playful and deeply intimate.
Two months into their relationship, it wasn’t just the two of them who noticed how special their connection was. After a dinner date, a paparazzi photographer managed to capture a candid shot of them leaving the restaurant hand in hand. By morning, the image was everywhere, spreading faster than Y/N could have imagined.
Aubrey’s publicist called with the news, explaining that the story had already taken off. Y/N knew Aubrey was a public figure, but she hadn’t expected their private moments to become public conversation so suddenly. Their little bubble was shattered, and suddenly her face was online, next to Aubrey’s in articles and tabloid stories speculating about their relationship.
The attention was overwhelming. Y/N’s friends started teasing her about dating “the Aubrey Plaza,” while her family’s reaction was more complicated. They had always known she was queer, but the age difference gave them pause, making them wonder if Y/N was really ready for such a serious relationship.
As the media frenzy grew, it was hard for Y/N to brush off the harsh comments online—insinuations about why Aubrey would date someone younger, or assumptions about Y/N’s motives. It felt as if the world was intruding into their private life, prying apart the joy they had found together.
But Aubrey was her anchor through it all. Late one evening, after Y/N shared how overwhelmed she felt, Aubrey wrapped her arms around her and whispered, “Forget them. I know who you are, and you know who I am. The rest… it doesn’t matter.”
They held each other close that night, letting the world outside fade, finding comfort in each other’s presence. And as they lay there, Y/N knew that, no matter the scrutiny, what she shared with Aubrey was real, something worth fighting for—even if they’d have to face the world together, one step at a time.
As days went on, the intensity of the media attention didn’t exactly die down, but Y/N and Aubrey learned to adjust. Aubrey handled it with practiced ease, guiding Y/N with little tips on how to ignore the comments and dodge prying eyes. Despite the pressure, they found solace in each other, learning to carve out quiet moments that felt like their own little world.
One evening, they decided to stay in for a movie night at Y/N’s apartment. Y/N had loaded up a few of Aubrey’s favorite old films, trying her best to make it feel special—a few candles, some popcorn, and a cozy blanket they could share.
“You know,” Aubrey said, settling down next to Y/N, “I don’t think I’ve had a better night in ages.” She glanced around, smiling at the thoughtful touches Y/N had put together. “You really went all out.”
Y/N blushed, nudging her playfully. “It’s just popcorn and candles. Hardly a red carpet.”
Aubrey smirked, tilting her head. “It’s the thought, and you, that make it perfect.” She reached for Y/N’s hand, entwining their fingers, and squeezed gently.
As the movie started, they fell into a comfortable silence, Y/N nestled into Aubrey’s side. The world outside felt far away, reduced to nothing more than the faint city hum in the distance. Halfway through the film, Aubrey leaned over and softly kissed Y/N’s forehead, her lips lingering just a little longer than usual. Y/N looked up, her heart skipping as she met Aubrey’s gentle gaze.
“Thank you for sticking with me through all of this,” Aubrey murmured, tucking a loose strand of Y/N’s hair behind her ear.
Y/N’s hand found its way to Aubrey’s cheek, tracing the soft lines of her face. “I’m not going anywhere. I knew this might be hard, but… you’re worth it.” She offered a small, reassuring smile. “And I’m learning. I mean, I’ve got the best teacher.”
Aubrey chuckled, pulling Y/N closer. “Flattery will get you everywhere, just so you know.”
They spent the rest of the night laughing, sharing stories, and talking about the little things they hadn’t yet told each other. Y/N felt a kind of warmth she hadn’t felt before—a love that was both grounding and freeing, as if Aubrey had opened up parts of herself she didn’t know existed.
A few weeks later, they decided to spend a weekend out of the city, heading to a secluded cabin by the lake. Aubrey had rented it on a whim, sensing that they both needed a little time to breathe away from the constant hum of the city.
On their first morning there, Y/N woke up to the smell of coffee and soft music playing. She wandered out to find Aubrey on the deck, wrapped in a flannel blanket with two mugs steaming in her hands. The sun was just rising, casting a soft pink glow over the lake.
Aubrey turned when she heard Y/N approach, her eyes lighting up. “Morning, sleepyhead. Thought you’d like to join me for the sunrise.” She handed Y/N a mug of tea, remembering she didn’t drink coffee.
They sat in comfortable silence, watching the sun climb slowly above the horizon, casting a shimmering path across the water. It was quiet, almost surreal, and Y/N felt the weight of everything slip away, replaced with the calm of being completely at peace in the moment.
After a while, Aubrey shifted, turning toward Y/N. “You know,” she said softly, “this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time.”
Y/N looked at her, her heart swelling at the sincerity in Aubrey’s eyes. “I feel the same way,” she whispered. Then, unable to resist, she leaned in, capturing Aubrey’s lips in a soft, lingering kiss.
As they pulled away, Aubrey grinned, her eyes shining with something close to wonder. “I don’t care about the noise, Y/N. As long as I have you, I’m exactly where I need to be.”
Y/n beamed at her
"So, what are we reading today?" Aubrey asked after a few seconds of comfortable silence
"I thought maybe 'the catcher in the rye, its a classic"
Aubrey nodded before pulling the younger woman into another soft kiss.
They stayed like that, wrapped up in each other and the quiet beauty of the morning, with their book and hot drinks, feeling as if, just for that moment, they were the only two people in the world.

Also: Building community is not just an outreach tool. It is a tool of keeping ourselves safe and keeping resources available to all. Offering things on social media like rides to abortion clinics, or diy hrt, or anything else that is perhaps not-totally-legal in all places, is not a great strategy. For one, you shouldn't trust strangers on the internet with information that sensitive, so those you are offering those services to would do well not to trust you. If you want to meaningfully contribute to providing things such as the above, or even more legal-but-logistically-complex things like feeding a large number of people, handing out narcan, etc, you need to organize in person. How do you organize in person? By meeting people in person, aka building community.
If this is your goal, you can start with people who are very similar to you! You don't have to start by reaching out to Alt Right David or even Annoying Uncle Bill - you can start by going to a local show or a group that meets at the library or hanging out with your D&D group when you're not actively playing D&D. Then, you have friends that you can rely on to take care of you, and who you might be able to plan some cool mutual aid shit with. I've been working on building community for awhile, at first not intentionally and lately very intentionally, and here's how I met the group of friends I started a monthly free store with:
1. Met Friend A at a choir thing since I like to sing and was looking for friends after moving somewhere new. Friend A ultimately left choir but we stayed friends, and at one point I told Friend A I'm ace.
2. Friend A said, "oh you'd love my friend B, who's also ace! She's doing a comedy show, let's go see her perform together and then you can meet her!"
3. Friend B and I become friends, and start a local peer support group for aspec people, based mostly on Friend B's existing communities and our sheer determination.
4. Fast forward a year and a half, Friend C comes to our aspec peer support group and I become friends with her.
5. Friend C and I are talking about activism, and Friend C says a lot of the things I'm interested in aligns with what Friend D has talked to her about. Friend C introduces me to Friend D.
6. Independently, I have been building a community space on my street, in the rough neighborhood of where Friend C, Friend D, and I live.
7. Friend D and I want to create a solarpunk future but decide to start small. Friend D ropes in several of his friends, one of whom I happen to know from the community space mentioned in 6.
8. This group of friends runs a free store once a month in the community space, open for all to donate to and all to attend. As we find out about others who are doing/want to do similar things, we try to join forces. In this way we've expanded from just a free store to a free store + clothing swap, and we're only on our third time hosting it.
All of these friends are lefty, and all of them are queer in some way or another. The free store friends are explicitly anarchist, like me. I think OP's point is useful for deradicalization and for growing the movement, but if you are alone and you are scared, encouragement to build community is just as much about finding your people in person as it is about forming coalitions with those different in you.
Another important note is that finding people like you should be a starting point, not an ending point. The goal of this is not to find friends, though that's a good start. The goal is to build dual power, which is done by working together with others and having open doors to join the movement. Once you've found some friends or communities, work to ensure that they are open to all, that you are reaching the people who most need the work you are doing, and that you are not simply making yourself feel good or just having a good time with your friends.
Activism is not cold-calling.
Activism is not cold-calling, and this is critically important to understand.
I'm seeing a lot of posts on here about 'building bridges' and 'finding community,' and then (extremely valid) response posts saying "BUT HOW??" And I'm going to explain something that can be very counter-intuitive: there is strategy involved in community.
As a longtime volunteer labour organizer, I’ve taken and taught many trainings on the strategy of talking. Something that surprises a lot of people is the very first thing you do in a union campaign. You sit down with your organizing committee, take out pen and paper, and literally map it out. You draw a physical map of the workplace: where are the entrances, exits, break rooms, supervisor offices. Essentially, ‘where is it safe to have a union conversation.’ Then you draw another physical chart of your coworkers. You sort out who is union-friendly, openly hostile to unions, or somewhere in the middle, and then you plan out very deliberately and carefully who talks to whom and in what order.
Consider: If Vocally Leftist Jane walks up to Conservative David and says "hey what do you think about unions," David is going to shut down immediately. He's not inclined to listen to Jane. But if Jane talks to Moderate Jason and brings him into the fold, then Jason is a far more effective strategic choice to talk to David, and David may actually hear him out without an instant reaction.
IMPORTANT CAVEAT: If Conservative David turns out to be Alt-Right David, and could be dangerous to follow organizers, we write him off. We are not trying to reach Alt-Right David. We are trying to reach Conservative David, who may actually be persuaded to find solidarity with other employees as fellow workers. Jason is a safe scout to find out which one he is. It does no one any good if Leftist Jane (or even Moderate Jane who is a visible minority) talks to Alt-Right David and puts herself on his radar. Not only has she done nothing to convince Alt-Right David to join a union - she's probably actively turned him against the idea - but now she's also in danger and the entire campaign is at risk. NOBODY WANTS THIS. Jane was NOT a hero for doing this. The organizing committee was foolish and enacted a terrible strategy to everyone's detriment.
Where you can make a difference is with people who will listen to you. You having a conversation with your well-meaning but clueless Centrist Democrat Auntie, and maybe gently helping her understand some things the media has been glossing over, is way more strategically useful than you marching up to MAGA Neighbour You've Met Once and trying to "build community" or "understand" them. They don't care. They're impervious, dangerous, and cruel. But maybe your beloved auntie will think about what you said, and then talk to her friend Anna who IDs as "fiscally conservative" but didn't vote because she can't bring herself to get on board with Trump. Then perhaps Anna talks to her brother Nic who has MAGA leanings but isn't all the way there yet. Proto-MAGA Nic would not have listened to you, nor would he have listened to Centrist Democrat Auntie, but he might absorb some of what his sister is saying.
This is not a cop-out or an echo chamber. This is you spending your time and energy strategically and safely. You are not a useful activist to anyone if you’re dead. Anyone who is telling you to hurl yourself directly at MAGA assholes like cannon fodder has no understanding of the strategy behind community building, and you should feel comfortable writing them off.
Last point: If you are tired, emotionally devastated, and/or in danger: take a break. This post is for people who would feel better jumping into action, not for people who are too overwhelmed to even think about it right now. You are worth so much even if you’re not actively Doing Activism, and your rest is worth more than “a break period so you can recharge and Do More Activism.” We all deserve the individual dignity of being worthy of comfort, rest & safety just on the basis of being human, outside of whatever we're doing for others' benefit. To deny ourselves that dignity is to devalue ourselves, and that’s the absolute last thing any of us should be doing right now.

So in terms of what we need to look out for first with the new Trump presidency, I think the first threat to a huge number of people is going to be mass deportation efforts.
One thing to consider about Trump and Project 2025 is that Trump's first priorities will be himself, his money, his power, and his ego. He doesn't care about anyone or anything but himself. He doesn't care about Project 2025. So what comes first will be about his image and what the people who can bribe him the most want.
Immigration is a huge thing with him, tied up in his ego and his racism. All immigrants, even those who have gained US citizenship, are at risk.
If you are an immigrant or have loved ones who are, look up organizations like the Immigrant Defense Project. Find immigrant defense lawyers in your area. Know your rights and which of them will be stripped when he invokes the Alien Enemies Act on 1798. The ACLU and other human rights orgs will be fighting him every step of the way, but prepare for anything. He will be giving ICE a lot more power. He says he won't tag in the military for this but don't believe a word he says, ever.
For the rest of us, if you're looking to help, you can join or revive local groups that work to alert people to ICE arrests and move to intervene. Forming crowds around arrest vehicles has worked many times to stop arrests from happening. That rules.
If you can't or don't want to join an org, get in touch with your immigrant neighbors, coworkers, etc. Start chatting with them, let them know you want them to stay and you're available to help. We must be in community with our migrant neighbors to effectively help them.
Start thinking about what you're willing to do. All the way to do you have an attic or other hidden space in your home where you can hide people? Are you willing and prepared to be arrested? Defying the government puts you at risk of imprisonment, and you need to be prepared for what that means, both in a practical sense and mentally/emotionally.
Speak with your partners, roommates, friends, and comrades about this. Know who is at the most risk to be arrested and what they will likely experience in prison. For example, BIPOC and disabled people are at a much higher risk when dealing with police and ICE agents. Under no circumstances would I recommend trans women/transfemme folks risk jail or prison time. Be prepared to risk sustaining psychological trauma. Draw and maintain the boundaries you need around any activism, resistance, or revolutionary activity.
I'll go more in depth on what migrants have to expect during the first 100 days of the second Trump term in a later post.
Please add more ideas and resources below if you have them, or make your own post and alert me so I can boost.

Congrats to everyone who has been working on W2H2! 🎉 If it's alright, I'd like to ask to ask 2 questions:
Is there by chance an official ref of colors for Debbie, or is it still up to interpretation at the moment?
Would you say that your personal, real life experiences within the 10 years moving from W2H to W2H2 shifted the tone/story of the series in some way? Something that I've always been fascinated with when I started looking more into W2H was the shift in Sock's character from the original comic -> first film -> second film, and Jonathan's character from the first film -> second film.
Thank you! ✨
I actually just made some 'official'-ish colors for Debbie! Her voice actor Kaitlyn wanted something to use on a banner for conventions haha... so here you go!
2. I'm not really sure how to answer this one, haha. I mean I've definitely changed as a person over the course of making each iteration of W2H. I started the comic while I was at community college, before I went to art school. I adapted it into an animation for my graduation project. And I started W2H2 a couple years after I graduated college. So there's a good 2-3 years between each attempt at W2H I've done, haha. I think a lot of my original ideas from the comic had to change because it needed to be condensed into a short film. I didn't even GET to Jonathan yet in the comic! Some things just didn't make sense to me anymore, like the idea of Sock already having a human body count. It'd just be absurd for him to be able to hide it for so long! Plus, if I made it so that Sock has only ever entertained the idea of murder, it makes his new job that much more appealing-- it's a chance for him to really lean in to this thing he's always had to hide. Between the first and second films though, I mean... I think there's been some tonal shift, for sure (I don't know about a character shift? We'll get to that haha) But basically, when I was first thinking about W2H2, my idea was "Sock and Jonathan hang out and attempt to figure out touch physics, also there's some drama about a journal Jonathan keeps." All of the hell stuff is something that came from bouncing ideas around with my friends, Michael and Neil. I was worried that sending Jonathan to hell would be too bonkers for a "2nd episode", but we all kinda agreed that enough time had passed that the fans would probably enjoy something higher stakes, so it would be fine. (I'll give everyone a moment to realize this conversation would've been happening in 2015-16... ha.)
We also kind of thought, y'know... I have no idea how many more of these there's even gonna' be, so why not go a little bigger with this one? W2H2 is a higher stakes story than what I set out to make in the beginning, that's for sure. It is interesting to compare all of them.. the employee handbook was actually from the comic and I cut that because it wasn't helpful for W2H... but then it became helpful for W2H2, so it came back! Haha. I'm curious to know in what ways people think the characters have changed though. (And is that a good thing or a bad thing?) Especially a character like Jonathan, no one's really even seen that much of him yet, I think most of the characterization comes from fandom, or like... art I've drawn, I guess? Haha... I'm not sure! I guess Sock's a little more confident and antagonistic in this one (though he'll have his moments of hesitation... we're only at Part 1 right now!), and Jonathan has had to become a more vocal/active character, just by nature of the kind of story it is, I suppose. But yeah, I'm not sure! Happy to hear your guys' thoughts though!

I am once again screaming after finishing an episode of Blue Canvas of Youthful Days. This show is incredible.
Let me start with one of the more smartly constructed misunderstandings I've seen in a minute: after seeing Teacher Liu's lost love in a photo, Tan Lin avoids him for days, Liu eventually gets drunk and calls him, then ends up flipping him onto the bed and saying he missed him so much--which Tan Lin believes is Liu confusing him with his ex. So he removes his hearing aid to shut out Liu's words, right before Liu keeps talking and makes it clear he knows this is Tan Lin and Tan Lin is the one he missed. So Liu finally gives in and kisses him, but Tan Lin thinks it's only because he's mixing him up with his ex. Diabolical, show! Teacher Liu, you are a fucking mess and you need to get it together, stop running hot and cold, and communicate very clearly about your intentions.
On the other side of our story, this episode gave me everything I hoped re: filling in Qin Xiao's perspective to help us understand why he rejected Qi Lu. This show continues to be so solid on the class dynamics and how they inform this romance. Teacher Liu laid it out clearly: Qi Lu is privileged and he will be able to go to college with or without this special admissions boost, but Qin Xiao has many fewer opportunities and he can't blow it getting caught up in Qi Lu's problems. Qin Xiao knows this, and is also battling some feelings of unworthiness and unwillingness to make Qi Lu's life harder by saddling him with Qin Xiao's struggles. On top of that, and what I found most heartbreaking, Qin Xiao admits he has always longed for a "normal" family, with a wife and kids of his own. He wants that desperately, and so of course he is fighting himself on falling for a guy. And I get him. When you grow up that deprived of things other folks take for granted, there is a real drive to build it for yourself and strong resistance to anything that would get in the way of it, even including your own true desires and feelings.
I liked that this episode had Qi Lu crossing the line into being far too pushy and displaying a real lack of empathy for Qin Xiao and his different life circumstances, because it put them back on more equal footing in this conflict. Qi Lu clearly does not understand Qin Xiao's perspective and is not interested in understanding; he's too fixated on what he wants and how he wants to live in defiance of his abusive father to hear Qin Xiao's legitimate hesitations and give him space to work it out. It's a really beautifully constructed impasse where they're both in the wrong but we understand what's driving each of them.

It's not part of the beliefs, but it kinda is how it turned out. I'm too young to remember when Poland was a communist country, but my older family members lived through it, and it wasn't a good time. I mean, for a big chunk of time, there were cards to get food. Shelves in shops were empty because production was pre-planned for five years, and it rarely were accurate plans. To get anything when they finally delivered anything to the shop, you had to stand in the line and hope for the best. My aunt learned to cry on demand, so when she, as a little child, was sent to stand in the line, people would let her before them out of pity. Sometimes, there were still people in the line when the shope closed, so they made the list who was were and then came back when it was their time. The only thing you could reliably get was alcohol.
Censorship was rampant. We have whole pun name for movies that were already made and all, but then censors decided something was wrong with it, so it spent years, sometimes decades on the shelf. There were illegal songs and illegal books. Illegal art, illegal words.
Protests were "calmed" with firearms and gases and people died because of excess force used by MO (Police force), ZOMO (MO but with extra gadgets, they got really infamous) and sometimes actual army. And you know who was protesting?
FACTORY WORKERS
Here was quick summary of each big protest that ended up in my textbook becuase it was so relevant with amount of people killed in each and shit but I felt like it was getting too long. If anyone asks, I'll share it. But most important thing is, communism in Poland fell because Factory Workers (it started with Union called Solidarność, from Gdańsk shipyard) had fucking enough of that bullshit. Factory Workers. People that this government was supposed to be for.
And it's not going into bullshit that Red Army did to "freed" nations during WWII, including group raping and robbing everyone of everything, including people going back from Concentration Camps, how people fighting with nazis were then trialed for 'sympathizing/working with nazis' because they were speaking up against the new forced government.
And it's ignoring various human rights violations.
Communism didn't work, just like Capitalism isn't working right now, because believe it or not, I'm not some sort of crazed 'capitalism rules' girlie. But it's still lived national memory that communism is not good. For fucks sake, even conservatives don't call it good time for Poland and you'd think they would considering time periods. Nobody fucking dares to. Communism fails. Capitalism fails too. I'm not an economist or frankly anyone who should be considered any authority on the topic but we either need something totally different or a truly Aristotlean fucking balance.
to be fair i dont know much about communism but i dont remember ever heard of something like that being part of their beliefs if im being honest with you

Hiya! I'm Ashe! One of the main fronters of the DarkMage Nugget System, runner of of this account, and main artist! Fennec kitsune/shapeshifter as well. (She/Her) Welcome to the DarkMage Nugget Tumblr!
Creator of Hyper City (With extra lore from friends and Aqua) where a lot of my friends stories are taking place. You can find my commission info here and are open! I do character art, emotes, and more!
System Intros after the break!
Allow me to introduce the rest of the system.
Iris- (She/Her)
Iris is the host of the system. She has her own blog here ( @iristhedarkwitch - 18+ only). She is the witch of our system, and also the current host. Specializing in transformation spells fictionally, and energy manipulation in practice. One of my girlfriends as well. And Aqua's girlfriend too.
Aqua - (She/They)
Aqua is the writer of our system. Also has a blog of their own over here ( @nuggetofthesea ). She is an elf with (currently) 3 forms. A base, a sea, and a shadow form. She is the one responsible for most of the lore in Hyper City, and is usually the calmest of us and just loves hanging out by vibing in the room. Also girlfriend. Also dating Iris.
Chaos- (She/Her)
Chaos is a gremlin. Is always interested in things that are high-energy and fast paced. She plays games on stream on fridays at 4:00 PM Pacific. She is also the most direct of us (Though speaks a little rough) and able to put things bluntly and deal with scenarios we wouldn't be able to otherwise. She can by hyper, but cares greatly for everyone in the system. Usually spending time with Aria.
Mira - (She/They)
Mira is the organizer of the headspace. A crystal fairy who is able to duplicate herself up to up to 30 of her at once, she manages the entire headspace and the thoughts and memories of system members. Keeping the memory archive as a collective reference for us to go back to. They do tend to be able to handle multitasking better than the rest of us, but tends to stay out of the front unless she is needed (or wants to troll us, because when she enters the front we all see what she sees. All 30 of what she sees at once). She keeps everything organized.
Aria - (She/Her)
Aria is a puppy. She's just a big strong puppy. She is the sweetest person in existence. She can't really communicate well verbally or over text. But can communicate through images, emotes, barking, and through me or Chaos. Would protect anyone physically if needed, but we try to not have that be needed. She is too sweet! If she shows up, give her headpats. She absolutely loves them. ^-^
Nova - (They/It/Fae)
A trickster fae that has found its way into our system. Rarely calls anyone by name, and speaking with a scottish Accent, they are playful and tricky. But likes to fly free. Bound to it's "Little Fox" (me) in terms of willing to listen her, but will chime in at any time it wants. So if I ever speak with a scottish accent, that's Nova.
And just some more examples of my character design work. These aren't part of the system (As far as I know) but are still characters I use often.

I Can't Sit Still
The lads men noticing that you’re fighting yourself to just sit still. [Requested by: luxis-journal]
Zayne
Zayne was being awarded tonight and all you needed to do was say a few hellos and sit pretty for the night. Why did your anxiety jitters have to kick in now? Those few hellos had turned into half an hour small talks with one too many people. Zayne was quite the hot topic amongst the healthcare community; it almost seemed like he was a celebrity. You being the beautiful woman on his arm it was only natural that people were curious about you as well. The night seemed to drag on as the mingling continued. Finally when everyone was seated at their respective tables for the showcase you thought this would help you relax. However the damage had already been done.
Your leg bounced furiously under the table while your fingers moved your silverware aimlessly. “Are you alright my love?” Zayne whispered in your ear pulling you back to reality. “I’m fine why?” You responded snapping your spine straight. You felt him place a hand on your thigh calming your ever bouncing leg. His palm was warm and you could feel your self relaxing into his touch. “You’ve been eerily quiet and you can’t seem to sit still” Zayne studied your face as you glanced over your shoulder at the many people in the room. “I'm not good in social settings” You sighed “It gives me anxiety as a matter of fact I think I may be sweating my deodorant off right now” You wrung your hands as your eyes continued to ping pong around the room.
Your gaze landed back on Zayne who couldn’t help, but look at you with concern ”If you’d like to leave I can have them send my award to the hospital” That was just like him willing you drop everything for you, but you couldn’t let him do that. “This is a big night for you I'll be fine Dr. Zayne” You smiled and kissed his cheek.
You were not fine.
Which is why Zayne did not stop worrying about you. The second he was called to receive his award, he gave a brief thank you speech and next thing you knew his fingers were intertwined with yours and you were quietly slipping out the room without a single goodbye or explanation.
He held the car door open as you folded yourself into the seat. You watched him circle the car and waste no time getting in and pulling out of the parking lot. “Zayne you didn’t have to do that we could have at least stayed for dinner” You tried to talk some sense into him as he glanced down and placed his hand on your thigh. “Look at that it’s no longer bouncing”
Rafayel
Attending these art exhibits with Rafayel was nothing new except tonight you two had to travel outside of the country for this one. Rafayel acted as a translator for you since he was fluent in many languages, but it did nothing to calm the rising anxiety in you. With the language barrier and the unfamiliar environment your anxiety was reaching its peak. You'd gone deathly quiet after an hour and found yourself hanging onto Rafayels arm while subtly hiding behind him.
You mindlessly thrummed your fingers on your leg and constantly fought the urge to keep adjusting your dress and rubbing your neck. You were about as slick as sandpaper though of course Rafayel noticed your fidgeting immediately.
“What's wrong?” He questioned, cupping your face. “This is a lot” You whispered, gesturing to the crowd. He scanned your face for anything else that you might be hiding. “Then let’s leave” He didn’t give you a chance to object before he was puling you by the wrist towards the nearest exit.
By the time you reached the street Rafayels’ driver was already there waiting. He promptly guided you into the car and climbed in behind you. “Raf you have got to stop disappearing during your own exhibits” You said, pushing his shoulder when he started chuckling to himself. “Those snobs aren’t worried about me as a person they’re more occupied with who can buy my work for the highest price”
“Still you didn’t have to leave just because I can’t sit still” You pouted. Rafayel leaned in close almost touching his nose to yours “You keep me sane through these if you’re uncomfortable then I’m uncomfortable”
Xavier
Xavier loved to read and eat hotpot with you and since today was chilly it was the perfect weather to stay in and do just that. The plan was to stop in Barnes & Noble, buy a few books and head back home quick and easy. Too bad you ran into a group of people you know and you hadn’t mentally prepared yourself for any kind of small talk.
Xavier noticed you constantly pulling on your sleeves and wringing you hands. He could tell you were hanging on by a thread trying to be nice and keep the conversation going.
“I don't mean to interrupt, but I'm not feeling well baby can we go home?” Xavier calmly grabbed your hand and stared deep into your eyes hoping he did the right thing. A subtle smile curved on your lips as a silent thank you for getting you out of this conversation. “My bad Xav let’s get you home” You quickly dismiss yourself from the conversation, grabbed your books and headed home. A wave of relief washed over you when you slumped against the passanger seat.
“Thank you so much I was about to start speaking nonsense if that conversation went on any longer” You kissed Xaviers cheek making him blush. “Im glad I could help” He muttered while rubbing his neck. He’s so cute when he’s flustered.
Sylus
Sylus couldn’t stand seeing those puppy dog eyes you gave him whenever he had to leave for something. Your tactic of keeping him occupied in bed wasn’t working either apparently this meeting he needed to get to couldn’t be rescheduled. So here you were sitting at the head of a long table with all eyes on you and Sylus.
Why did he have to sit you on his lap?
Many men brought different jewels and business prospects to Sylus as you fiddled with the hem of your shirt. As one of the men in the room rambled on about …. whatever the fuck …. you mindlessly shook your foot and constantly adjusted on his lap only for him to move you back to your original position. Sylus leaned in to whisper in your ear after yet again readjusting you on his lap. “Sweetie I can’t have you sitting at that angle you're crushing my balls” You felt a wave of embarrassment wash over you. Here you thought he was just trying to whisper sweet nothings in your ear like the smooth talker he is. “You’re shaking like a puppy in the rain what's the matter, tell me”
You drop your head to stare at your hands as you whispered “I don’t like how much attention is on me” Sylus nods as he takes in your words. “Can you sit still for an hour or would you like to leave?” You knew how important this meeting was for Onychinus so you tried to suck it up and stay still.
That just made it worse.
Sylus noticed your movements becoming more frequent and jerky. “Let’s go” He said under his breath. He stood abruptly from his seat cradling you in his arms. He ordered Luke & Kieran to stand in for him as he disappeared from the room with you. “Im so sorry I can’t control it” You hid your face in his chest feeling like you ruined his entire meeting. “No worries Princess I saw all I needed to see and I wasn't impressed” He readjusted to hold you a little higher. “Besides your anxiety seems to be winning this internal battle”
Your head snapped up at his accusations “I don’t-” He cut you off with a stern look “Don’t lie”
You bury your face in his chest again “Don’t judge me” Your words were muffled. “I’m not judging you” You looked up to find him staring down at you with a tender gaze. “Let’s get you back in bed”

2019 debut year <> first meetings - hyung line
word count: 2.4k TW: hints of anxiety, slight angst italics are in english, bolded words are in mandarin
౨ৎ ─── ─── ──౨ৎ─── ─── ──౨ৎ─── ─── ──౨ৎ
They had all returned back to their company early the next morning, anxiously waiting in their practice room to meet their new member. Coups was busy briefing everyone when Woozi finally walked in, late.
"Thank god, you're here." Joshua pulled Woozi to join them in the circle they had made sitting on the floor.
"Don't really got a choice." Woozi muttered, his posture screaming how he didn't want to be here.
Coups gave him a look over before deciding he couldn't deal with it right now. "Anyways," He continued. "I know you're all excited to meet and get to know her, but she's going to be already overwhelmed and confused being in a new country, we're not going to make it worse by crowding her all at once." He looked pointedly at DK, who seemed to be crawling out of his skin in pure excitement and anticipation. "So just say hello, introduce yourself and let her adjust to the environment. You'll have plenty of time to get to know her later."
"Hyung." Seungkwan raised his hand. "I can show her around the company."
Coups nodded. "Take Joshua with you, manager-hyung said her Korean's minimal."
"Just remember we've got practice at 2." Jeonghan reminded, smiling at how excited Seungkwan had already gotten. "We've got to teach her the choreo for Home."
"Got it." Hoshi mumbled from his spot on the floor, limbs spread as he laid stomach up. "Leave that to me."
Joshua frowned. "Are you sure?" Other murmurs of agreement came from the others, everyone hesitant on the idea. They were all scared Hoshi might traumatize the girl with his intensity.
Hoshi waved their concerns aside. "I'll be nice. Might need Joshua to join us though, I don't know how well I'll be able to communicate in English."
Just before Joshua could respond, the practice room's door cracked open as Cyana's brown hair peaked out, her eyes wide as she scanned the room.
SCOUPS:
The first thing that he noticed about Cyana when she walked into the practice room was that the girl was shaking. It was minimal and disguised well as she quickly covered her hands with her sleeves, but Coups caught on quickly that the girl was extremely nervous. Taking the initiative to approach her first, he did his best to smile and prayed he looked more friendly instead of terrified. "Hi." He waved, bowing slightly before introducing himself. "I'm S.Coups." His shoulder relaxed when Cyana gave him a shy smile, waving and bowing back. "Hi." She whispered, her voice quiet and soft. She said something in English, words too fast and too jumbled for him to make out. He turned to Joshua expectingly. "She said she knows who we all are. Said she studied us and watched our videos on the plane ride here." Joshua's eyes were full of mirth. "She's a little embarrassed." A weight seemed to lift off Coups' shoulders at the sound of the news. If Cyana had studied them on her own accord, he wouldn't have to be so worried about whether her work ethic would match their own. He sent a grateful smile to the girl, who was looking at Joshua with a mix of both gratitude and amazement. "Thank you." She smiled back, waving his thanks away. "It was nothing." She said slowly, face scrunched in concentration as she picked her away through the Korean sentence. "I watched your performances. You're all very talented."
JEONGHAN:
Cyana's Korean washed over his ears and he couldn't help the coo at how adorable her voice was. It held a slight accent but he could tell she had practiced her pronunciation quite well. "Aigoo." He stood up to introduce himself, shaking her hand and refusing to let her bow. "I'm Jeonghan." "Nice to meet you, Jeonghan. I'm Cyana." "Cyana." He tested her name, enjoying how it rolled off the tongue. "Pretty." He grinned when she blushed, her face tinting pink as she looked away. He watched as she said something in English to Joshua, who looked at Jeonghan once she was finished and bit back a laugh. "What?" He asked, annoyed he couldn't understand and that it felt like Joshua was laughing at his expense. "Tell me what she said, Shua." "She said you look prettier in person. And she asked if you always looked at people like you're about to prank them." The boys let out a laugh from behind them. "I told her sadly, yes." He turned back to the girl, ears red at the compliment but eyes crinkling in shared joy when he saw that she was giggling at his expense. "Tell her I have a feeling she'd enjoy joining in on my pranks, Shua. There's mischief hidden there, I bet."
JOSHUA:
Joshua found himself both a little prideful and a little embarrassed by the amount of attention he was receiving. It was the way Cyana seemed to already have pinpointed him as the English speaking one, turning to him instinctively whenever a member spoke. As he relayed information to and from the girl, he could see the gears turning in her head as she tried to translate their words herself, before giving up and sending him a sheepish look for help. "I'm Joshua, by the way." He said, once the excitement of their first introduction died down and conversation drifted between members about different things. Cyana smiled grateful at him, shuffling to his side to hear him over the chatter. "I know. Thank you for translating. I've been trying to learn Korean but I guess I'm not quite there yet." He shook his head. "Languages are hard to learn when you're not really needing to use them. You'll pick things up quick around us, trust me." He watched as she watched the others, confused when he picked up on a tinge of melancholy hiding behind her eyes. He didn't have much time to dwell on it though, Cyana turned back to face him, smiling when she caught him staring. She smiled as he quickly looked down. "You guys are close." She observed quietly. "Yeah." He nodded. "We all grew up together so we're like a family." There was something about her expression that made her seem wistful, as she watched the members interacting on the floor, a ghost of a smile on her lips when Hoshi grabbed onto DK's leg with a shout. "That sounds really nice." "You're apart of that now. This family." He gave her an apologetic smile. "Good luck, cause you're gonna need it. We're all a little crazy." She laughed, a real one this time, unlike the quiet and shy ones she'd given the others. Joshua watched as her face glowed, in a way that reminded him of when DK's face would glow with happiness whenever they were onstage. She looked really pretty happy. "You know I mean it, right. You're part of this family now." He repeated himself cause there was still something gnawing at him. He didn't really believe she believed him 100%. Cyana looked at him and he felt like he was under a microscope as she studied him for underlying meanings. "Thanks." She finally replied, her expression suddenly replaced by a warm smile. She looked like she wanted to say more, as if her lips were the dam holding a tidal wave of worries and fears within her. A heavy pang hit Joshua in the chest. He saw a lot of himself in her, the confusion, the hidden worry, the fear of not doing enough. It felt like looking into a mirror for his soul, and he knew he couldn't let her drown like he did predebut.
JUN:
Jun, although bubbling with excitement over finally seeing their new member, seemed glued to the spot on the floor where he sat. He could only watch, half amused at how shy Cyana was, half worried Woozi, who was sitting next to him, would do something rash. "Hi, I'm Cyana." He watched as she introduced herself to each of them individually, striking up a quick conversation with a few of them. "I'm Jun." He said, shaking her hand when she made her way down the line of members, reaching him. He gave her a nervous yet reassuring smile, noticing how she had deflated slightly from the cold introduction Woozi had given her. "I'm excited to work together." Her face light up at the familiar language. "Me too." He watched as she turned to say hi to Dino, who was next and was basically vibrating in anticipation. He knew he could've said a lot more. They didn't have a language barrier after all. He knew he should've told her how excited he was, not just to work together, but to have another Mandarin speaking friend. How he knew she was probably extremely nervous and scared to be thrust into the spotlight and that he would gladly be of support whenever she needed him. He wanted to let her know that Woozi was just worried and had SEVENTEEN's best intentions in mind and for her not to be too upset. Yet, as he watched Cyana finish her introductions and gravitate to Joshua's side, the words caught in his throat and he swallowed them back down. Minghao, who had noticed this, gave Jun a nudge. "You're too shy to say anything, aren't you." He gave him a teasing grin. "Shut up." He grumbled, still watching Cyana, who was speaking with Joshua. He would tell her all those things, just not now. Not anytime soon- he was far too nervous for that, but one day.
HOSHI:
"Hi!" Hoshi practically bounced to introduce himself to Cyana once it was his turn. He'd watched Jeonghan talk to the girl and figured he could just keep it simple like he had, yet all the thoughts of being calm and proper flew out the window the moment Cyana moved in front of him. "I'm Hoshi. Soonyoung. Hoshi." He stammered. Cyana's eyebrows furrowed, a little confused. "Hoshi?" He blushed, his face burning all of a sudden. "Yes. I'm Hoshi. Soonyoung-" He paused, trying to recall exactly what Vernon had told him to say when he had asked him for help last night. "-my korean name." Thankfully, Cyana seemed to understand, nodding her head. "Oh~ like how I have Cyana and Soyeon." He nodded. "Yes." "What does Hoshi mean?" She asked, genuinely curious to know how he had gotten the name and what it meant. Hoshi blanched. Vernon hadn't taught him this part. "Uhhh- tiger?" He wordlessly raised his hand in a tiger claw motion. Cyana giggled, mirroring him. "Horangi? That's cool." He beamed under the praise, proud he had successfully conveyed what he was trying to say. Feeling ambitious, he quickly recalled the other phrase he had asked Vernon to teach him upon realizing they had a new member coming from the states. "I, um- teach you dance, later. New comeback." "Oh, okay. Sounds fun." Cyana shot him one last smile, amused by the interaction and touched by how genuine he was. Later that day, Hoshi approached Cyana once more, signalling to the girl that practice had started. He tried his best to lead her through the first verse of Home, shoulders relaxing when he realized how fast she was picking up the choreo. "Good! Like, da da da dun~." He showed her once and watched as she mirrored his movement. "Nice!" She beamed under his praise. "Joshua told me you were scary as a dance teacher, but I'm having fun." "It's because you're good." Hoshi said, neither of them realizing that the other actually understood what they were saying. "Okay~ next one-" He moved on before Cyana could react to the compliment. The others watched on from the other side of the practice room as they went through the Home choreo themselves, brushing up on the routine they had learned a couple days ago. They watched in awe as Hoshi and Cyana danced together, the duo breaking into giggles and shared laughter as Hoshi taught her with patience and skill. "Why isn't he like that when he's teaching us?" Dino complained. "I never get that kind of energy from hyung."
WONWOO:
Wonwoo knew it was pitiful, the way he was hiding himself behind Mingyu as best as he could. He could sense Cyana's presence as she moved closer and closer towards where he stood, making her way through each member as she introduced herself. Pushing Mingyu to go first, he tried painfully to calm his breathing. "Hi." Cyana stood in front of him, her hand extended to shake his. "Hi." He watched, uselessly, as her hand dropped when he didn't take it. He didn't really know why, he felt as if the whole experience was taking years off his life and he could no longer feel his limbs. Mingyu coughed and he remembered he was supposed to say his name. "I'm Wonwoo." "Hi, Wonwoo." Cyana breathed out, perplexed and a little hurt by his coldness. He could tell she was waiting for him to say something but his mind was blank. He watched as she moved past him to say hi to Seungkwan instead. "You're useless." Mingyu snickered, laughing at Wonwoo's expense. "You should've seen your face." Wonwoo gave Mingyu a stone cold glare. The nervousness was gone and embarrassment was settling in, mixing with a twinge of anger. "Shut up." "She probably thinks you hate her, Woo." Wonwoo ignored him, but he knew Mingyu was probably right. He had left her hanging, refused to say more than his name to her and probably looked like he hated her throughout the whole thing. It was probably easier that way anyways. He knew from the moment she poked her head into their practice room that it was over for him. Maybe it was her voice, when she had talked to Seungcheol, maybe it was her laugh or the shining glow in her eyes, Wonwoo didn't care. All he knew was that falling for someone in his line of work was out of the question and that it was in SEVENTEEN's best interest that he keep Cyana as far away as possible. Let the girl hate him for all he cares. It was an emotion far easier to navigate than love.
WOOZI:
Woozi knew his body language was making it painfully obvious that he didn't want to be there. When Cyana walked in, he'd watched her interactions with Seungcheol and Jeonghan with apprehension written plainly across his face. He had nothing against the girl, god no. Really he felt bad for her, having no idea she was being used for Pledis' own gain and marketing ploys. It was just the circumstance and the fact that it was all happening to SEVENTEEN, a name he and the boys had worked so hard to get off the ground. "Hi." Cyana was quiet and skittish with him right off the bat. He supposed it was because she could tell he didn't particularly want her there. "Hi." He said, sighing and walking over to the monitor without a word. He mindlessly cued up the songs for practice, all the while deeply concentrated on what was happening behind him. He could hear Cyana's voice as she interacted with the others, her soft tinkering laugh when DK made a poor joke in English. He could hear the jumble of words she was speaking to Joshua and couldn't help but look back and notice how comfortable everyone was with her already. It terrified Woozi that he scanned the room and found nothing wrong with the picture in front of him. 14 people in SEVENTEEN's practice room. A girl. Throughout the rest of the day, as Hoshi taught Cyana their new choreo and the rest of them practiced synchronizing their levels, Woozi could tell the girl was trying to get to know him and was confused whenever he avoided her. He could tell it hurt her, that he was avoiding her like the plague, opting to speak to another member about fixes they needed to make whenever she so much as looked at him. It was just something she would have to get used to, Woozi reminded himself. The whole girl thing was not going to work and Pledis would realize that the moment their comeback backfired. They would move Cyana to a different group or have her debut solo. He was sure she'd be much more successful that way anyways. She wasn't permanent and Woozi knew it. There was no need to get to know someone they'd end up losing anyways.
author's notes: here's cyana's first meetings/impressions with the hyung line~ i promise the buildup and progress between woozi and wonwoo's relationships with cyana will pay off in the long run. i alr cannot wait to write the angst potential it has.

okay. short, pithy statements aside:
i sincerely love creative works made by people. even if you don't think they're good. i will always prefer a flawed and rushed thing made by a person, compared to a flawless and technically perfect product regurgitated by AI.
artwork? if you you share something that you drew in five minutes on a napkin with restaurant crayons—how could i do anything other than love it?
fanfics? if you post a snippet of an AU that hasn't been fleshed out, but this one thing you decided you needed to post? how could i not cherish that?
i just—i care so, so much about the things that people make, just for the joy of making them. just to have, and to share. to show it to someone else, and say, "i made this, and i hope that you like it."
what's the point of AI works? yeah; sure. monetization, whatever. get the capitalist out of your brain for a minute, because i'm talking about the things we make and share as a community, not corporate products. if it's made by a machine, who is it for? the machine didn't make it because it loved it. the machine didn't "make it," at all. and even if there was such a thing as an ethical AI, who would it be for?
fandom is a collaboration. if the extent of that collaboration is putting a prompt into a text box and waiting for stolen work to get chopped up and forced through a sieve in the hopes that what comes out the other end bears some kind of resemblance to what you wanted...? come on. what's the point?
i love the things made by people. even when the people who made them don't love them, know that i love them, because they were made by people, and there could've been a lot of reasons for why they made them. maybe the person just couldn't get an idea out of their head until they made it; or they thought of something and wanted to make it because they knew their friend would love it; or they just wanted to, because they felt like it; or maybe, they made it because they love making things. maybe it was a little bit of a lot of different reasons. ...and i think that's beautiful.
the machine doesn't love making things. the machine is not a person. the machine is technically proficient at reproducing variations on (or just actual copies of) (usually stolen) work, from people.
and i don't love that.
'do you think you're superior for not using AI in your work' thank you for asking! yes i do
#anti ai#fuck ai#fuck ai art#fuck ai writing#agi could be a beautiful and wonderful thing. the ai we have now is not agi; and it is not beautiful.#the ai we have now is not a person. it doesn't make things for the joy of making them; or sharing them; of creative expression#it's just a tool; and not an ethical one

High Flyer - Part Two
pairing: charles x reader
summary: no spoilers 🤭
masterlist part one requests open
—————————
You stayed a week extra in Abu Dhabi, not needing to return to Maranello quite yet. You could say that the allure of Ferrari World was too much, and Carlos talked it up to you. It was perfectly silly and probably the best second date you ever had.
The photos of you and Charles post-race were popular among fans, trying to figure out who he is. Then the video dropped, and you found yourself trending in the community once more.
“They are just as fascinated with you as I am,” Charles has said over a video call when talking about it shortly after becoming official.
It takes a lot for you to make the relationship work, strictly timed video calls, staying positive during the periods of time when you don’t get to talk to him, even sending letters back and forth. Somehow it works for you, and you cherish the moments when you get to talk face to face.
The glittering Monaco harbor is behind you as you put your earring in, preparing for the prize giving ceremony. Thankfully it’s not far from your apartment, and you only have to be there for your second place award. You hear a knock on your door and grab your phone, just in case it’s a crazy fan who snuck past the door guards.
“Charles?” you gasp, looking at the man in a suit in front of you, a small suitcase in tow.
“Bonsoir, ma cherie. I heard you are in need of a date tonight?” he smiles as you practically throw yourself on him. Charles holds you tight, savoring the moment.
“How are you here?” you ask in disbelief, the shock distracting you from how good he looks in his dress uniform.
“I got a couple days off. Max helped coordinate the surprise,” Charles reveals, your neighbor and friend pulling through for you.
“I’m so glad you are here,” you catch him off guard by pressing a kiss to his lips, melting into his arms.
“I’m glad I am here too, you look beautiful, and I’ve missed you so much,” he says softly, taking in your Ferrari red dress that fits you perfectly.
“I missed you too, this is much nicer than a video call,” you sigh, not wanting to step out of his embrace, fearing that if you do he will disappear. You know that his assignment is almost up, but you learned that ‘almost up’ means a year.
“I know, but I wouldn’t miss this for anything. I get to celebrate my incredibly talented girlfriend,” he pulls back slightly, aware of the time and that you need to leave soon.
“What if we just don’t go and stay in?” you suggest. Any desire to go flew out the window when you opened your front door.
“No, we will go, you will give your speech, and then as soon as it’s over we can leave. You have me for a couple more days,” Charles kisses you once more, not really helping the whole wanting to stay thing.
You rarely lose physical contact with him on the way over to the ceremony, whether it’s holding his hand, his hand on your waist or leg, or you holding his arm.
“Don’t you two look happy,” Max smiles, proud of himself for the surprise. You and Charles make for a much better looking pair than the fan ship of you and Max. Not to mention, Max is like your brother.
“Thank you,” you whisper as you quickly hug Max. Charles shakes Max’s hand after.
“You may have chosen the most boring event to make your first appearance as a couple at,” Max chuckles, leading the two of you to the bar.
“Well, they wouldn’t let me skip it,” you grumble.
“What are you grumbling about?” Carlos approaches your small group.
“That she couldn’t skip this,” Max says before you can reply. Charles squeezes your hand as you roll your eyes at Max. You take a glass of wine, needing something other than champagne.
“And miss a chance to show off her new boyfriend? I doubt it. Aren’t you glad that the PR team chose me to go to Ferrari World instead of you?” Carlos smiles, knowing that he’s right.
“No,” you lie, “I had to pay to go myself after the race. Charles was the only good part about the media duties,” you slightly lean into your boyfriend.
“Sure. We can both go to the amusement park next year and I’ll pay,” Carlos chuckles, grabbing his drink from the bar.
“Let’s find our seats?” Charles suggests, kissing the side of your head. You quickly find your table, Fred already there to represent the team in the Constructors Championship.
“My sometimes favorite drivers,” Fred jovially greets you and Carlos as if he didn’t see you in Maranello a week ago for a sim session.
The ceremony drags on, you take every opportunity to converse with Charles and your table, but you are subject to hours of awards and speeches. When the night is finally over, you turn down every afterparty invitation thrown your way.
“I am not going to place in the top three next year,” you groan as you slide your heels off. Charles is immediately drawn to the piano that sits in your living room.
“Do you play?” he asks, looking natural behind the keys.
“Not well or often enough, the former renter left it here. I keep it maintained though,” you hum, sitting beside him gently. Charles runs his fingers across the ivory keys, trying to recall a song.
“Well then, let me to the honors,” he smiles, fingers pressing down, easily gliding up and down the keyboard.
“That was incredible, you are incredible,” you say softly afterwards, you’ve never been serenaded before and it’s a turn on.
Charles leans in, capturing you in a kiss. His large, calloused hand rough against your cheek. When you pull away, you lead him to your bedroom, craving all the contact that you missed since you last saw him physically.
The air is charged as he unzips your dress, fingers brushing your bare skin sensually, making you arc into him. Charles brushes your hair off your shoulder and neck, pressing featherlight kisses to the area. Your breaths are shallow, breathless from everything.
“Charles,” you whisper, his name like a prayer on your lips, asking for anything and everything.
“Let me take care of you, ma reine,” he replies, nudging you back towards the bed as your red dress slides off your body. You hands slide up his chest, pausing to push off his suit jacket before they rest on his neck and in his hair.
After a long night, you spend the morning rotting in bed. Charles holds you close as you talk about anything and everything. You take him out on your yacht later in the day, a nice change of scenery.
“I don’t want you to leave tomorrow,” you admit as the sea breeze pushes your hair around.
“I don’t want to either, but I’ve been reassigned to southern France. I’ll get to see you more often,” Charles reminds you. You nod, fighting any tears back at the thought of separating again.
“I know, I just love you,” you bittersweetly smile, a pang in your heart as he pulls you close.
“And I love you,” he says softly, savoring the feeling of your embrace.
You see him a few more times before pre-season testing, visiting him off base and vice versa. The visits were short but worth every moment. Charles calls you when you are leaving dinner after the first day of testing.
“Mon amour, how was testing?” he asks, sweaty from a flight.
“My body is sore, but it was good. I just had dinner with my kids,” you smile, a small pack of drivers behind you.
“Oh, Oscar and Logan are there? Tell yhem hello for me,” Charles smiles.
“Hi Dad, Logan isn’t here,” Oscar smiles, popping into the frame and stealing your phone. You carried the loss of your son deeply, but you don’t blame Charles for forgetting that Logan wasn’t on the grid anymore since you said you were with multiple grid kids.
“You haven’t told him?” Ollie asks, large brown eyes looking sad at his exclusion.
“I just adopted you, kiddo. It’s hard to break the news that he’s now a father to twins and a grandfather,” you laugh, pulling Ollie into a hug. It didn’t take you long to adopt more grid kids, in fact as soon as you got to the paddock Ollie and Kimi came up to you calling you mom. It’s like the cat distribution system. Oscar adopted the new Australian on the grid, citing the Alpine connection, meaning you are a grid grandma. Oscar comes back to you and hands your phone to you.
“We are grandparents?” Charles asks, a little bewildered.
“Yes, funnily enough our grandchild was born at the same time as our twins,”
“Twins?”
“Hi Dad!” Ollie and Kimi say at the same time when you turn the phone to them.
“Hello?” Charles is confused but he does love how you take in the rookies and make them feel at home.
“Sorry, Charles, why don’t I call you when I get back to my hotel?” you smile apologetically, wanting to have time for both of you.
“Of course, call me when you get back,” Charles agrees, no trace of disappointment in his voice. He doesn’t have much to share about his day, especially since he doesn’t have a scheduled flight for a while. Charles watches as the call ends, thankful that he didn’t spoil his surprise.
Testing passes and suddenly it’s the first race of the season. You walk into the paddock, your brood with you. You, Ollie, and Kimi are deep in conversation, confusing Oscar and Jack a bit as you speak in Italian. You’ve already had movie nights that ended with them strewn across your hotel room, and you just know that they will be in and out of your room this season. F1TV already caught Ollie leaning against you taking a nap as you hugged him last season, and they captured Kimi doing something similar during testing.
“Papà,” Kimi says suddenly and you furrow your brows. Jack taps your shoulder and points ahead. Your smile grows as you notice Charles standing ahead, waiting for you. You take off, practically jumping into his arms.
“You’re here,” you grin, barely waiting to kiss him.
“I had to fulfill my WAG duties and meet our children,” he smiles, not letting you out of the hug yet. He utilized his brother Arthur, your reserve driver, to get a pass. Your face was priceless when you first connected the two, it was quite funny how long it took. Apparently sharing a last name and resemblance wasn’t enough until he mentioned it on the phone shortly after Abu Dhabi.
“Get a room,” Oscar makes a face that causes both of you to laugh.
“Oh we will,” you lean into your boyfriend, content to never leave.
“Ewww,” Ollie gags, disgusted at the idea. You and Charles laugh, like proud parents embarrassing your kids.
“That’s Ollie, this is Kimi, our grandson Jack, and you know Oscar,” you point to each boy.
“Nice to meet you all officially,” Charles smiles as he keeps an arm wrapped around your waist.
“Alright kiddos, time for you all to get to your teams. Drive safely,” you part ways with them, itching to get to Ferrari for some private time. Charles insists on getting a coffee before going to your drivers room, and the two of you barely get a second alone before there is a knock on your door. You pull away from Charles, irritation laced in your voice. “I just got here, go away,” you call out before pulling your boyfriend back in.
“I know you are hiding my brother from me,” Arthur’s voice responds causing you to pull away, a slight pout on your lips. Charles quietly laughs, pressing a quick kiss to your lips before he gets up to open the door. Arthur struts in, sitting between you and Charles. You did have the chance to spend time with the Leclercs in their home.
“You know, brother, if you wanted to get with Y/n earlier, you should’ve just asked me. You are lucky I suggested that the media team send her instead of Carlos,” Arthur says and you gasp.
“YOU ARE THE REASON HE GOT FERRARI WORLD INSTEAD?” you practically yell, causing Charles to stifle a laugh. You aren’t mad, well you are but in more of a joking way, sorta.
“She really did not like flying,” Charles clarifies, stretching an arm behind Arthur to play with your hair, a comforting touch.
“At least you met eachother?” Arthur suggests sheepishly.
“He was going to be at the race anyway,” you narrow your eyes.
“You trauma bonded?” Arthur suggests again and your eyes light up.
“Have you ever seen the video of Charles during his hot laps?” you ask, wickedly smiling. Charles looks at you, a mix of panic and curiosity in his eyes.
“No, show me!”
“Nope. That blackmail belongs to me, since you so kindly took away my fun,” you shake your head, locking your phone. Charles lets out a breath of relief, he trusts you completely, but he was worried for a second.
“You’re no fun. You never even adopted me into your grid family,” Arthur pouts as you and Charles lock eyes, shared amusement between you.
“Arthur, why would she adopt you? You are my brother,”
“I don’t know, because she’s the most sought after grid parent. Plus, it’s not like you two are engaged,” Arthur says and you flush with embarrassment and flattery.
“Arthur, you are basically my brother, you don’t need to be my grid kid. You are on the same level as Charles and Carlos,” you are starting to feel like a parent describing something to a young kid.
“I guess that is better. You better mention that when making a family tree video,” Arthur concedes.
“Why don’t we go out for dinner after the second practice session?” Charles suggests, hoping to kill some of the awkwardness.
“I think that’s a great idea. Speaking of, I should start getting ready,” you catch Charles’ unspoken message, hoping to get Arthur out of your room.
“Right, I should do my job too,” Arthur stands up, half expecting Charles to follow, but isn’t surprised when he stays. They can catch up while you drive.
“Finally a moment alone,” Charles grins moving closer to you.
“I wasn’t lying, I do need to get ready,” you say between kisses.
“You need to undress first, and I can help with that,” Charles murmurs against your lips as his hands slide underneath your shirt.
“We are working on limited time,” you point out, brain fogging.
“We go fast for a living, we can do it,” you were a few minutes late for your prep meeting. Arthur gave you a weird look, one that told you he knew what you were up to.
Both Charles and Arthur were glad to have the weekend together, spending time as a family while you raced. Before you knew it, Charles was kissing you goodbye at the airport as you both went to your next stops. His France and yours Saudi Arabia.
What you didn’t expect was Arthur banging on your driver room door as you are prepping.
“I’m in, I’m driving,” Arthur seems to be freaking out a little bit as you let him in, dressed in a Ferrari suit.
“Carlos is out?”
“He’s in the hospital getting surgery. I’m driving a Formula One car,” you process it beside him, remaining much more calm than Arthur.
“Did you call your mom?” you ask, knowing the answer is likely no since he would’ve been in team meetings since he found out. Arthur shakes his head no, so you squeeze his shoulder and grab your phone.
“Y/n, what a surprise. Is everything okay?” Pascale’s voice rings out over the phone.
“I’m sending a jet to you right now, and I’ll send the flight details in a bit. Arthur will drive his first F1 race and you should be here,” you tell her over speaker phone, working everything out starting with the flights.
“Is Arthur with you?” she asks as Arthur peers over your shoulder.
“Hello Maman,” you tune out their conversation as you send her the jet details and start working on hotel rooms for her, Lorenzo, and Charlotte as well as paddock passes. You only really get out of your planning zone when Arthur grabs your phone to hang up and hug you.
“You okay?” you finally ask, knowing he is probably emotionally drained already.
“I can’t wait for you to officially be my sister, and I can’t wait to drive alongside you this weekend,” Arthur says, you gently rub his back to ground him.
“You will do a great job. Let’s get through free practice three and then we can talk about some tricks to make it work for you,” you stand up, grabbing your gear to head to the garage.
You try to help him out as the team gets him adjusted and tested for approval, but you have your own driving to worry about too. It’s very clear to the team that you are looking out for Arthur and want to help him learn the ropes. But when it’s time to get into the car, he is own his own. You do well in your program running, but check in on Arthur periodically via your engineer.
Arthur qualifies well for a rookie, and you start the race second row at P3. He is the first person to greet you in Ferrari after you return from the media gauntlet.
“Congrats on P3,” Arthur smiles, showered and ready to go back to the hotel.
“Thanks! You did pretty well for your first time. Give me like 20 minutes to shower, yeah?” you ask, ready to get some sleep.
“Thanks again for helping me get through today, I see why everyone wants you as their grid mom,” Arthur says, not protesting when you hug him.
“Of course, I want you to succeed,” you reply, excited to see his reaction when his family is waiting at the hotel for him. The team covered their hotel rooms since you booked flights before they could.
“I can’t wait for you to be my actual sister one day,” Arthur yawns, your face Ferrari red at the thought. Of course you thought about it, but having him say it is different, it’s more real.
“Maybe one day,” you say, sliding into your chauffeured car. Arthur gets in beside you, and finds himself as your pillow. You accidentally fell asleep as the car left the circuit. Arthur takes a selfie and sends it to his family group chat as your soft snores fill the car. He scrolls on instagram, killing the rest of the time on the drive, when he sees an edit that the F1 account posted. It is the free practice three timesheet with your last name changed to Leclerc. He sends it to you, knowing you wouldn’t want to be awakened for it even if it is funny.
“Y/n,” Arthur pokes you as you arrive at the hotel.
“Hmm, sorry. You should’ve woke me up once I fell asleep, you don’t have to be my pillow,” you yawn, slightly stretching before getting out of the car.
“Maman,” Arthur hugs Pascale, who is patiently waiting at the entrance for him.
“I’m so proud of you,” she says before stopping you from slipping past. Not that you were going to avoid her, you just assumed she would want privacy with Arthur. “And you, thank you for today. You are a part of this family,” she wraps you in a hug, making sure you know how much your effort was appreciated.
“Of course, you couldn’t miss Arthur’s first race. I’ll let you guys catch up,” you smile, hugging her one last time.
“Can’t have you falling asleep again,” Arthur teases, your smile deceives your joking irritation.
“You won’t let me live that down, will you?” you say, shaking your head. “I will see you in the morning for breakfast,” you bid them goodnight, ready to collapse in the plush hotel bed.
It’s a sight to see, you walking into the paddock with the Leclerc’s (minus Charles) behind you. It’s clear to fans that you have been easily incorporated into the family. Charles watches from afar, having the day off from officer duties. He sends a couple texts, wishing you luck and a few memes from fans based on the post made by F1. You reply when you can, but it’s sporadic.
“Ready to lose?” Max asks you during the drivers parade.
“I should ask you the same. But if it means I don’t have to sit through prize giving again, then yes I am ready to lose,”
“It’s not that bad,”
“You won your third championship, you are used to it. Plus, you hate those events more than me, don’t lie,” you laugh.
“Alright, that is fair,” Max relents. He ends up winning, but you climbed a position and took P2. You won’t hear the Italian anthem this week, but you sing it in your head on the podium as you get your trophy. The teams energy is infectious, even for P2. Arthur meets you in the motorhome, holding a phone to your face.
“Congrats, mon amour,” Charles says, a proud smile on his face.
“I drove okay, Arthur drove well though! Points in his first race,” you smile, accepting hugs from Lorenzo and Charlotte. Pascale stole Arthur’s phone, taking Charles away from you.
“Any recommendations for dinner?” Lorenzo asks, ready to celebrate.
“A few. Will you two come out tonight to celebrate?” you ask, adjusting the suit that hangs at your waist.
“Someone has to stay with Pascale, but I know Arthur will party tonight,” Charlotte politely turns down the offer.
“I will, I heard Max always sets up good parties,” Arthur is excited to celebrate with the grid.
“Expensive parties, you are lucky I’m picking up the tab for you,” you laugh, Arthur’s phone being placed in your hand.
“You look tired, call me when you get to your room,” Charles smiles sympathetically.
“Will do, love you,” you smile back, handing the phone to Arthur as you make your way to your driver room. True to your word, you call him once you shower and change. It takes another twenty minutes on the phone for Arthur to bang down your door, reminding you that you have a family dinner to get to.
“Enjoy dinner, I love you,” Charles says before hanging up.
The season flys after that, especially when Ferrari begins to get very competitive again, putting more pressure on you and Carlos.
Charles got leave approved to go with you to the prize giving, both of you deciding to make a mini vacation out of it. The night before, you go to a small Parisian restaurant for an early dinner then a sunset walk along the Seine.
“What was your favorite part of the season?” Charles asks, wrapping an arm around you.
“Hmm, maybe winning Miami, or finally getting more consistent at the end of the season. The PR team would want me to say the trip in Abu Dahbi they arraigned for Carlos and I since I publicly complained that only he went to the Ferrari World last year,” you ponder the question, not having thought about it. You and Carlos had a blast, and it made both of you think of taking trips to amusement parks during winter break. “What was yours?”
“That graphic of you with my last name,” Charles reveals with a smile, he still makes you blush like a schoolgirl.
“That was a good choice,” you see something on the other side of the river and take a step away to get a close look.
You turn towards him to point it out and that’s when you find him on one knee.
“I’ve been waiting since the start of the season to ask you this. I knew during testing that you were the one and that I would marry you, then when everything in Saudi Arabia happened, it confirmed it more. You are my everything, and my forever. Will you marry me?” Charles asks, watching you tearfully nod.
“Yes,” you nod, watching him slide on the ring. Charles is beaming as he pulls you in for a kiss.
“Forever,” you whisper your promise against his lips.
“What if we get married tonight?” Charles asks, the thought springing into his mind.
“Tonight? Why not,” you grin, a rush of adrenaline going through you.
“We will have to wait for the paperwork, but I’m sure we can find a priest,” Charles kisses you, as he mentally plans it.
“Let’s find the nearest church, maybe the priest is a Ferrari fan,” you wink. The priest was, and was more than happy to marry you despite no wedding certificate. Your families were ecstatic, especially when you both promised to have a formal wedding during summer break.

As much as I was not emotionally prepared for the end of episode 10 after the utter hell that was last week irl, I keep thinking about how well they constructed this episode.
I know there's a lot of varying opinions out there, but to me, when it came to the core themes, what happened made so much sense, and was crafted really, really well.
Like I couldn't give less of a shit about the ring and how it works, because it doesn't matter - there's always some bastard with power that he's abusing, and how he got it and who is going to get it from him next is irrelevant to those of us just trying to survive. They already spent plenty of time showing it's all a game, the ball has just changed hands. It very well could be a magic ring - just look at how people in real life worship and obey money, which is a creation of humanity, not an inherent truth. The point isn't for us to understand how the system works overall, but to see the ways that those of us lower down get manipulated into exhaustion and despair and self-punishment. That's what we need to know about the system - how it breaks us down.
What mattered with the episode was the escalation, the throwing of the crabs into the bucket where they start to pull and tear each other - and themselves - apart.
And it started early. It started when Jack & Joke saw Jennie's character being harassed, and did nothing. Because they thought they were ok, in their little couple bubble. But that's the whole point. It's not just about the two of them, it's about all of them, the collective community, and how none of them are safe even when it feels that way. How none of us are safe.
Jack and Joke both did things we didn't want to see them do, but those are the things the system is designed to draw out of them. Just look at those of us in the U.S. right now. We live in a country that was founded as a white supremacist patriarchal institution, and last week it worked exactly as it was designed to.
Yes, the angst in this episode hurt, but it had purpose here. Because this shit is insidious and horrible and devastating, and even our heroes are not immune to it.
But you know who is immune? Who sees what's truly happening? Who understands what needs to happen?
Hoy. Sweet innocent, baby Hoy.
Hoy gets it, and he convinced his cougar girlfriend, and she convinced the people in the temple. Because as horrific and insurmountable as it all feels sometimes, it is possible for holds of power to be broken, for an oppressor to be brought down.
But it has to be collective. It has to be community.
Jack and Joke are suffering because they are not special, they are not perfect. They are us.
But they will get there, because of what they've built in the community up to this point. And the community will come back for them.
#jack and joker#i am still riding a lot of intense emotion this week#but i truly believe this show is doing something special#it's not about the nuts and bolts of each scene#but about what yin and war are saying to us#this is a love letter to us y'all

I blame big agri, big pharma (You think pharmaceutical companies are only in the business of drugs? A lot of them have patents on and sell pesticides too), and land developers. You know, the corporate entities that are actively destroying habitat and eradicating plants and wildlife.
But you know what? There's something you can actually do about this.
Step 1: KILL YOUR LAWN
Link to t-shirt art here.
And I mean this literally, metaphorically, and spiritually.
Unless it's an actual communal space, urban turf lawns are elitist colonial holdovers from the days of European estates - from wealthy land owners who could afford to have servants hand cut their lawns and didn't need the land to subsite off of. Rather the elites just subsisted off the backs of other people's labor. Like they still do today. Turf lawns are status symbols, they provide very limited habitat for wildlife, very limited eco service system functions, and are fucking boring.
So kill your lawn and eat the rich. You don't need a lawn to throw a potluck bbq.
Step 2: Plant Native Plants
Plant them in your yard, next to your vegetable garden, in containers outside you apartment, plant them in your asshole neighbor's yard, in hellstrips, in road medians, on the sides of the roads community gardens, at your kid's school, guerilla garden in some businesses landscaping, talk to your HOA about changing their dumb rules, join a local volunteer restoration effort, advocate for installing pollinator gardens at your local park. Wherever you think you can get native plants to grow.
Sure there are some immediate benefits to planting native plants, but one plant or one garden is not gonna fix climate change or habitat loss on its own. But that's not the point. The point is to learn and to heal. The point is to show people how to re-democratize our landscapes, because we as a species have forgotten what that looks like. It is about reminding people what the beauty of nature is, the sustenance it provides us, and the interconnectedness of all living things.
So go out there and get your hands dirty.
Also, as someone who works in land stewardship and natural resources, and who has completely gone down the Prairie Dog burrow on native plants, hit me up with questions. Chances are I don't live in the same ecosystem as you do and won't be able to answer in fine detail, but I'm happy to help people get started and point them to local resources.
it's kind of crazy climate change has occurred at such a remarkable pace that I and everyone else around my age can remember a completely different climate in our childhoods. I truly watched winter gradually disappear in my life.
#climate change#nature#stewardship#solarpunk#disrespect the grind#am i channeling all my rage and spite into land stewardship and gardening?#yes. yes i am. because that's at least one thing i know i can do#little ghost on the prairie#also bought a kill your lawn shirt and a hoodie and am impatiently watching my mailbox#native plants#native plant gardening#gardening#do plants not drugs#or do drugs but just remember most of those come from plants so consider paying it forward
