#but there are like none in the horror section and the sci-fi fantasy section has EVERYTHING

I really wish that this post included a list of different horror sub genres and movie recommendations for each. Because. Like. I like thrillers and some horror adjacent stuff. I prefer horror usually not set in modern day or at least not in modern day cities or suburbs. And I prefer sci-fi/fantasy plus things that happen in space or under water. Also. Children’s horror movies are perfect as well.
people who don’t watch horror movies are SO confident that they know everything there is to know about the genre. like it’s okay to not know things. it’s okay if you don’t like friday the 13th or whatever. i promise you don’t need to make an ass out of yourself on the internet about it
#I love the alien series#but I can’t find many other movies that scratch the same itch#it’s kind of hard to and most horror book and movie recommendations are those slasher movies#or just modern day creepy stuff#I want to more easily find sci-fi horror#but there are like none in the horror section and the sci-fi fantasy section has EVERYTHING#it’s hard to narrow things down

Why the Magnus Archives is struggling to interest me now
First off, spoilers for the latest section of the story.
You’ve been warned.
Got it?
Good.
There are 2 key elements that are making the latest season a struggle for me to slog through. It comes down to:
1 The framing, certainty, and stakes of the stories.
2 The limited, potentially fixable nature of the hellscape.
Point 1
The Magnus Archives began with Jon just reading these stories, doubting them, following up on them, questioning. Just personally those are the kinds of stories that I love the most, the ones that are on the verge of reality, that could be true, that the teller clearly believed, that likely could be disproved. That is what is at the heart of Creepy Pasta, of urban legend, of folklore. The things that, personally, I love the most. That is what made the archives-- that makes the X-Files, that makes most spooky shit online. Slenderman, Ben Drowned, etc.
In the hellscape, we start from the clear proposition that this is all real. There is no doubt, no follow up research. But more than this, we don’t even get the story as we would have-- we get it 100% viewed from the target, spoken directly out of them as it happens or happened. It’s not a guarded retelling, it’s not missing details that were forgotten, it’s wrought from their minds by the Archivist direct. There’s little but metaphorical language up for interpretation.
The stakes are also so different because of this. In the real world, we have to consider that if the stories are true, it put the story teller in danger. Are they still in danger? Is something still after them? Are they between death and escape into the normal world? Will the followup statements from Jon reveal that they later died? It gives their story a new framing, new interest. In the real world the stakes can be high-- to survive the encounter, or to escape only to be caught later-- mortality is a big part of those stories. But in the hellscape, there are no /real/ stakes. It doesn’t matter if they get out, or if they die, they just recycle back into it all. There isn’t a chance for escape, it’s just ceaseless suffering. As a one-time story, that would have been interesting. But this season has a new story in the hellscape EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. That is tiring to me.
Point 2
The season is buildng up to a final encounter that will hopefully end the apocalypse. Now, could it all go wrong and end the show in this eternal apocalypse forever? Sure-- or at least until Death sweeps in and ends everything. That’s a possibility. But the show is building to a sort of certainty that the apocalypse can be fixed.
Narratively, at the least, I can’t see them ending with the apocalypse standing forever, because it divorces TMA entirely from reality. If they can get back to “normal” with people just having a world wide horrid nightmare, then it can re-settle into reality, which makes it possible for the archives to continue, and for more... normal supernatural things to keep happening. This is the only ending I can feasibly see as a writer myself.
Again, they COULD choose to leave it in apocalypse land forever, but I think that would be a mistake because if the suffering becomes the norm it also doesn’t have much impact. At some point the victims are no longer people, they are just the concept of victim and terror, as the jailors become the concepts of violence and cruelty and abuse. When you get there the people stop mattering to an extent. There is no horror to it then, because it’s unfathomable to us. There’s no person at the end to suffer, it’s just the act of suffering in the form of a body. We can’t sympathize with that. This is no longer a horror podcast then, then it just becomes sci fi/fantasy with grimdark elements. And that just doesn’t match the arc or goals of this show from what I’ve seen across it.
So, one way or another, with a million permutations of the cost to make it happen, I believe it will end. And that completely removes the stakes here. None of the stories being told but the over-arcing narrative matter. None of the victims in danger can fix anything. It’s up to Jon and Martin alone. And when they free them? I can’t imagine that the world returns KNOWING what really happened. And then, what about these episode by episode hellworld vignettes matters? None of it has impact to me but the few that hit on real world fears to me-- which for me was the Buried episode with the people crawling in the dirt, just because it hit the claustrophobia that we’d already seen in another buried episode.
The writing is wonderful, it really is. But every single time Jon goes to do a recording in hellworld, I get bored. The people and their names and their actions mean so little to me, because this will all likely end soon, but also because these people don’t know anything else. This is just trauma porn right now. There is no moment where it ends and they get to be in the real world again to think through what they’ve gone through, to heal and grow and work past it. The entire world is just a trauma train, and that’s not an interesting medium to write in, or from the audience angle, to listen to.
In fact, the really interesting angle to take in hellworld is to view this from the point of view of the torturers. They are the ones with the space to think, to reflect, to understand what’s happening to them, to others, and who have agency. We see that 100% when we talk to the boneturner asshole in his garden, and Helen’s interspersal into Jon’s monologue and interaction with victim in the hotel. A fantastic break happened when we hit Mikael as well! But that’s not the way that Jon decided to write this season for some reason, and that’s the reason the ending now is feeling, to me, like such a slog. Originally I thought it would last for 14 episodes-- one episode in each domain, but it just keeps happening and I am so bored. I’m happy we’re finally in London and I hope it moves to some other format now.
What are yalls thoughts?

Good morning! Whats your favorite show/movie? Who are your favorite characters? Why do you like them so much? Also!! Did you have a good sleep?
Okay so I was a film major for a while, and I have opinions.
Penny Dreadful
I love this show. Like, so much. I adore it. I can not get enough of that show. Just all of the imagery, and the fantastic writing and acting. The episode intro alone is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Eva Green is a goddess and I love everything she’s been in. The take on classic horror stories is So Good, and it actually became the inspiration for my Gay Frankenstein story! (Started as a stitch AU, and then went completely OC after I had Ideas) but the show itself is so intimate? I think it’s largely that the period they’re in, everything was so repressed and restricted. So when the characters break out of those moments, it’s more meaningful. And the love-hate relationship between Ms. Ives and Malcolm in season one? Exquisite. I could literally write essay’s about this show, but I’ll restrain myself and just say: it’s the best ensemble show I’ve ever seen. The characters come together, but they also each have their own distinct lives that sometimes intersect, but in s2 especially, are quite separate. They are constant with one another like ensemble shows usually portray. Also gothic horror and romance? My absolute favorite.
Anything by Guillermo del Toro
This man Owns My Entire Soul. I’m not even joking, everything he writes and directs is perfection. Crimson Peak is probably my favorite (I have a stitch AU for this too ;) ) because again, Gothic horror and romance. I’m a slut for that shit. Also Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain? Delightful casting. I think it’s obvious by now that I love tragic relationships, so their dynamic is *chef’s kiss* amazing. they’re so damaged. And this quote right here is one of the BEST things I’ve ever read:
“But the horror... The horror was for love. The things we do for love like this are ugly, mad, full of sweat and regret. This love burns you and maims you and twists you inside out. It is a monstrous love and it makes monsters of us all.”
Engrave that on my headstone, please?? I’ve got a sort-of Dorian Gray AU (it’s delightful) that’s basically built on this entire premise. Mitch makes the mistake of falling in love with Stiles, and does many terrible things because of it. Mostly to himself, at least.
I think my love of Crimson Peak is very closely tied with The Shape of Water. another beautiful movie, I could wax poetic about this forever. it was beautifully written, and such an artistic movie. I love the way it was filmed, and the set design, and all of the subtle imagery. Such as Elisa’s apartment being cast in cooler tones, it always felt very damp and had evidence of water damage, compared to Giles’, a mirror image of her own, in more warm tones. This is another one I could (and have) write essays about. There is so much packed into this movie, from the themes on toxic masculinity and entitlement, to the conversation on queerness and race and disability, and how all the various relationships are portrayed. Like. there is so much to pick apart in this movie.
Aside from that, ofc Hell Boy deserves an honorable mention because i grew up on those movies. I’m pretty sure the Golden Army especially is responsible for who I am today, given all the lore on the fae in that universe. Wow, that explains so much about me... Also one of my first WoW characters was an elf named Nuala xD I still have her, too, and it’s been like 12 years lol
Near-Future Sci-Fi
Sci-fi is one of my favorite genres, I am a huge nerd for theoretical and astrophysics. But my favorite kind of sci-fi is the stuff that still takes place on Earth, rather than epic battles in space. Ex Machina and Annihilation are at the top of that list. Alex Garland is another writer/director that I love. He has the same kind of approach as del Toro, where he puts a lot of fine details into his work. And I love that it’s very cerebral; there are so many layers to Ex Machina. My English 101 prof actually refused to analyze it in class when I suggested it to him, because he didn’t think my class could. Basically handle? Dissecting that movie? Because a lot of it comes across as very surface level, but in some cases when you look deeper, it’s actually suggesting the opposite of what you might think at first glance. (And he was right, my fellow students were awful. I miss that class though, it was one of my favorites T_T Mr. Ryder was an awesome dude and super chill.)
Morgan is another good example. As you can see, I fucking love androids lol. Which brings me to another of my all time favorite movies: Cloud Atlas. I could literally watch this movie endlessly, I love it so much. The acting, the writing, the filming, all of it is top notch. And one thing they did in the movie that didn’t come across in the book, was reusing the same actors through the different eras in the book. That was just so neat, because it really encapsulates how connected these souls are, as we follow the threads of their story throughout time. If you haven’t seen the movie, I can’t recommend it enough.
Another one I always think of alongside Cloud Atlas, even though they aren’t related at all, is Predestination. It’s a great movie that explores the idea of fate and free will in a really clever way, utilizes time travel in a very organized way that I think was neat (think Umbrella Academy. They even use briefcases! As you can see, I love sci-fi bureaucracy, it’s fun. In fact The Bureau is another movie I enjoyed) and the main character is actually, explicitly trans, which was cool. You basically get to see the entire story of their life, and I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s just. So good. Mindfuckery galore.
Shoot, and I almost forgot! Arrival! That is one of the best movies, and another one I could watch nonstop. It focuses on mathematics and linguistics and I swear to god, I almost altered my entire college course because of this movie. Amy Addams is brilliant, Jeremy Renner is so soft and nerdy, and again, it has an amazing take on time travel. I am very particular about how time is handled in Sci-fi, and this portrayal was one of my favorite. (Most of my physics studies have been dedicated to the theory of time, so like. Strong Opinions.)
Fantasy
Stardust! It wasn’t until Good Omens can out that I realized Neil Gaiman is responsible for most of the stories I loved as a kid lol, and I had no idea he wrote stardust! But that is such a beautiful movie (I have a Stardust AU lol) and it’s definitely one of my comfort movies. Captain Shakespeare is one of the best characters ever, bless Robert de Niro. I would die for him. Fun fact, i had no idea Ipswitch was a real place until like. 2019. I 100% thought it was made up for the movie 😂
Alongside Stardust, I’ve always loved The Golden Compass. It’s fantasy, but also with that old-timey steampunk science feel, which is so fun and surprisingly difficult to find!
Mortal Engines also has the same kind of feel, and it was such an epic movie in every sense of the word. I’m a little sad that after all the work that went into it, it didn’t get a dedicated following or fan base, because I feel there’s so much potential in it. But at the same time, fandom tends to gather around media that has plenty of flaws for us to repair with gold, and there wasn’t much room for that in Mortal Engines.
I’m going to put Jupiter Ascending here even though it technically fits with the sci-fi, because that section is long as fuck and also this movie has such a fantastic feel. Mila Kunis? beautiful. The CGI? beautiful. Eddy Redmayne? One of the best villain portrayals i’ve ever seen. The whole oedipal vibe he had was immaculate, as was their portrayal of reincarnation, and just. The world building. GOD. I get so weak for through world building. Also the fkn intergalactic bureaucracy when they’re basically at the space DMV? One of my all time favorite scenes in movie history.
Horror
I have very little room in my life for horror. As I said, I have strong movie opinions, especially when it comes to horror movies. I don’t like how most of them rely on cheap jump scares and overused gore and gratuitous rape scenes, instead of, y'know, actual good writing.
Which is EXACTLY why I adore It: Chapter 1 & 2. It has none of those things, but still manages to be so terrifying. They are my favorite horror movies, and I’m saying this as someone who has genuine childhood trauma bc of the novel. Like. I couldn’t shower/take baths alone until I was almost 10 T_T When I was 6-7 and saw kids play by storm drains, I would run over screaming about how Pennywise was going to get them. Like, I had issues man. I was terrified to see the first one, and wouldn’t go until I could go with my best friend after she had already seen it, so she could warn me when something scary was about to happen 😂
And, one of my favorite aspects of the movie, and the thing that gave me Mad Respect for Any Muschietti? The way he filmed Bev and her father. They have a character who is literally being molested, but they never once have to show it. And yet their interactions are still so viscerally upsetting to watch. Sexploitation puts me off of most horror, and the fact that Muschietti doesn’t use it here, even when it would be actually somewhat justified? *chef’s kiss*. I love him.
I love horror as a concept, I’m just really picky about it because I expect the writing to be good. I don’t like short cuts. But in a lot of cases, even if I don’t enjoy the movie itself, I love to watch analysis videos on youtube! I love to see the philosophy and symbolism in different horror movies, even if i don’t like to watch the movies themselves. It’s a fun hobby.
Misc.
Then in general, some other stuff I love in no particular order:
The Internship (Bless Dylan, Stuart is such a bitch and I love him)
American Assassin (ofc. The writing itself is eh, but Mitch is my man)
Dylan’s episode of Weird City. (I actually have a lot of feelings about this one. Jordan Peele is another amazing writer/director, I really need to catch up on his works.)
Dorian Gray (*chef’s kiss*)
Rogue One (Makes me cry every time)
WARCRAFT (Obviously this is a fav. It made me so happy, words cannot express.)
Coraline and most other stop motion animation. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for that.
Literally anything associated with Tim Burton. Fun fact, when I was 12 and in middle school, I planned to decorate my future house inspired by tim burton. Like, i had Plans.
Most adaptations of Alice in Wonderland!
So! this got long as fuck! But you said you like that kind of thing lol 😂 I had kinda Eh sleep since I was up so late lmao, and I kept waking up (as usual, rip). And I’m so mad I go up for nothing! The dude I was supposed to show my listing to never showed, and is refusing to answer my calls >_> It’s been 2 hours now, and I still haven’t heard from him. But whatever, I already have a full price cash offer on the house so who cares. And that means I can play WoW all day, now!

Vidya ramblings pt 3B
Previous list here.
Onwards and upwards to the B-tier games. I guess its a good sign that we have so much to play, and that the general bar for quality has risen so much year on year, such that B-tier games would easily slot into my A-tier list in a slower year, or C-tier games slotting into B-tier for that matter. I have to deliberately go looking for chaff these days, is what I’m saying. “B-tier games” sound worse than what they actually mean on my list: those I had very few qualms about, or their strengths were enough to compensate for their shortcomings and I generally looked forward to firing them up instead of doing so out of my completionist’s sick, demented obligation. So! Pat yourselves on the back, game devs.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (N3DS)
I’m not an FE mark by any means, but when I’m looking for something to play on a Nintendo platform (3DS is the only one I own), FE games are invariably among the scant handful of their franchises I turn towards. Awakening was my first FE, so as a latter day entrant I have to judge all future games by that metric. I wouldn’t outright call Echoes the better game, although it is a better game in many aspects. The “feet on the ground” dungeon exploration is a nice addition; the art is absolutely gorgeous, the soundtrack is stellar, and despite not having the romances or pair-up feature, the combat was solid, even if the maps and objectives are very rote and frankly dull. The cast was very enjoyable, and plot well, it’s typical dragons and destiny and royalty will save the day, blah blah vanilla FE storytelling. It was a nice distraction in the early months of the pandemic, but I might have to give the edge to Awakening here. I am looking forward to playing all 3 routes of Fates sometime this year or the next though.
Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4)
Finally, I hear you groan, an actual 2020 release. Certainly the most lavish remake I’ve played since... RE2? I should have more nostalgia for this game, as the OG was technically my first JRPG and I’d spent an entire summer on it, with my friend’s PSX copy and his strategy guide laid out in front of me. But, I went into this with hype in check and nostalgia completely dulled, maybe because I actually am just a dried up, withered out old fart with a prune for a heart? Anyway, game is pretty good, there isn’t much to say about it that others haven’t already gushed over or criticized to death. I will say though that it’s been a while since a game’s difficulty tuning and mechanics absolutely kicked my ass. You need to learn the combat system in this or you won’t get very far, certainly not on Hard Mode anyway. I’m a bit wary about the 2nd and 3rd (possibly 4th?) entries in this project. Just how will they re-interpret the world map? How are they possibly going to tie everything up? How much of the OG game will be cut or reconfigured, and how much will be filler? Will we have to sit through more of those interminable “slide through narrow crevices to mask our shit loading times” sections? Will the environment textures actually load up properly?
Hades (EGS)
Yeah, it’s a Supergiant joint, and I’m a mark for Greek mythology, what more do you need? The only reason it’s on a lower rung here, and it’s not a fault of the game so much as what I look for in games. I’m just not much of an arcade-style, score attacker or rogue/rogue-lite player. If I wanted creative re-use of assets with super high replayability, I’ll go for a MP shooter, or an immersive sim. All that is to say that the game is rather short and repetitive (by design), and the drip-feed of story, character development, unlocks or trying out new builds and personal challenges just doesn’t do it for me. What is here is quality, through and through without a doubt and the whole 31 hours it took me to do my first clear (again, one and done - that’s all for me) were just good old fashion gaming fun.
Death Mark (PS Vita)
Vita means life! This game gets the dubious distinction of being the last physical Vita game I’ll ever buy (I was as surprised as you you must be, mhm!). The only reason it’s on the B-tier list and not the lower rung is a testament to its successfully creeping me out from beginning to end. Which is saying something, because it’s a typical horror story of urban legends manifest as hauntings and curses, done as a very low budget VN fashion. If you’re used to VNs with more QoL features like in ye olde Steins;Gates or some such, well, you’ll be quite disappointed here. No text logs, no touch controls, extreme reuse of very limited assets, etc. I understand that the dev, Experience are uhm, experienced DRPG makers, and that influence is certainly felt in the “boss battles” here, though they are somewhat clunky and use adventure game logic, which is to say not very logical or poorly explained. This is also on Steam, Switch and PS4 so... go forth and acquire.
Gravity Rush Remastered (PS4)
Unlike Tearaway Unfolded, I will say that the PS4 version is the way to go with superior controls, performance, visual fidelity, etc. You lose nothing by going to the big screen. Still one of the most charming things Sony has put out, and like it’s successor, it’s still a somewhat underbaked game. The definition of a cult classic or a B-tier perennial, simply swimming in well-earned 7s. This would rate higher (while still within the B-tier) had it not been my 3rd time going through this, but newcomers will be treated to something fresh and special. Anytime I get to shill for Gravity Rush is an opportunity I will gladly take.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (PS4)
The very definition of a B-tier game in my books! Well crafted and big budgeted enough by the task masters, technicians and actors at Naughty Dog to garner a guaranteed spot here. Again, I don’t mean to sound backhanded, but it’s really hard to truly love something this big, with this much broad appeal and craftsmanship. It really is everything that’s right (and wrong) with Sony’s (Western) first party output this past generation. I was slackjawed during the Madagascar car chase, touched during the dramatic moments between Nate and crew, the flashback sequences with Young Nathan were done really well (again, walking sim sections one and all), and UC4 reminded us about why pirate adventures are awesome (themes of obsession and seeking treasure at your own peril be damned). Crushing Mode in this one is truly diabolical (in the not satisfying, simply die-lots way), while the MP is... okay? Forgettable for the whole hour I devoted to it.
SOMA (Steam)
A downer of a sci-fi tale about post-humanism (or transhumanism?), deceptively snuck within a fairly spooky horror thriller. It’s made by the Swedes behind the Amnesia games, partly set in a curious recreation of my hometown of Toronto, about an average dude going through some pretty extraordinary circumstances, and none of it is treated with extraordinariness. It’s definitely a muted affair, and contributes to that grounded, depressing tone. Yeah the human race is long dead and the few consciousnesses left alive are going to live out the rest of their existences in virtual reality until the batteries run out, so what? Get to it, Simon. Smart and logical spatial puzzles underpin the walking sim aspect of the game, and though there’s the slight survival horror/stealth element, I played on Safe Mode cos I could only imagine how frustrating it would be to die to those things. Check it out, it’s great, but it’s not for everyone and in a pinch I wouldn’t want to play something like this, which is why it ends up here in the B-tier.

Favorite book?
You can’t just ask someone what their favourite book is without any reference to genre! :p
The thing that makes me laugh is that everyone assumes that since I can (kinda) write, I must have read all the classics, and all the stuff that’s touted as the next big thing. Which is completely wrong. I actually HATE the classics, and things that spend three million years setting up a scene before something actually happens send me to sleep.
As a kid, I read pretty much everything in the children’s section of the library that I was interested in, and then started nosing around the adults’ shelves for things to read. Since the kids’ section didn’t really have many classics, I just graduated on to adults’ genre fiction, and that’s where I’ve stuck, really.
Something that’s interesting to me is that as I’ve grown up, going back to those adults’ books I loved as a kid has resulted in me throwing the book across the room, because I now see the horrendous descriptions of female characters’ appearances, and the way they don’t really have any purpose in the narrative other than ‘love interest’ or ‘secretary who might make the occasional relevant observation’ or ‘villain’s love interest who puts up with domestic violence to show that the villain is bad’. The feminist in me can’t deal with most pre-millennium male authors these days (and to be honest, a lot of post-millennium male authors, either).
I get the feeling that none of my favourites are in genres you would actually like, @lurkingwhump (with the possible exception of crime), but you opened the box, now I have to go inside...
Some of my favourite books that spring to mind (but this is by no means an exhaustive list):
Horror: The Newsflesh series by Mira Grant (including the short fiction, because it’s fantastic), the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong (which was turned into TV show, Bitten, which totally wasn’t as good, but the first season was pretty cool), The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey.
Urban Fantasy: The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire (who also writes as Mira Grant for her horror stuff), Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series (Kate’s love interest, Curran, is like my ultimate book boyfriend, OMG).
Sci-Fi: The Sentients of Orion series by Marianne de Pierres (her Parris Plessis trilogy is also great, but is more of a dystopian post-apocalyptic thing than a space opera), the Innkeeper books by Ilona Andrews (kind of straddles sci-fi and urban fantasy).
Apocalypse-is-Nearing Science-Focused Kinda Atlantis Apocalypse Thing: I can’t think of a word for this genre, but Deception by Stel Pavlou is a great book.
Fantasy: Trudi Canavan’s Black Magician trilogy, the Kushiel books by Jacqueline Carey.
Crime/Thriller: Karin Slaughter’s Grant County series, Karen Rose’s books (but it does annoy me how all of her heroines - even the one who supposedly can’t conceive a child - end up Married and Pregnant by the time they’re mentioned in subsequent books).
Erotic Romance: Kit Rocha’s ‘Beyond’ series (which is a better post-apocalyptic dystopia than most I’ve read, plus has some great kinky smut, threesomes, polyamory - but it’s all character relevant and most importantly, respectfully romantic with consent... *happy sigh*), Aurelia T. Evans’ Sanctuary series (which I actually selected for publication and edited as part of my old day job - werewolves, dog-shifters and vampires, oh my!), Cherise Sinclair’s Shadowlands books (curvy heroines discovering kink with very hot, consent-focused Doms).
Young Adult: ANYTHING BY TAMORA PIERCE, but especially her Tortall series (start with the Song of the Lioness quartet). The His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman. The Midnighters series by Scott Westerfeld is very cool. LJ Smith’s Forbidden Game series is a lot of fun too, but I first read it when I was a kid, so nostalgia might be giving me rose-tinted glasses.
Mental Health Memoir: Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen.
This is why you can’t ask me what my favourite book is. :p

Even numbers for the book ask?
Thanks for the ask!
2. Top 5 books of all time:
These are my personal top 5:
And Then There Were None— a classic, I read this the first time in 6th grade because I forgot my book for DEAR (drop everything and read) day and I instantly fell in love
Good Omens— I didn’t read this book until earlier this year, but I love it with all my heart the Prime adaption was great. It’s almost like a love note to the human race and I adore it.
A Monster Calls— I got this in the airport to read on a flight and was not prepared for this heartbreaking tale.
The Power— Fuck yeah girls get super powers and the power imbalances of the world shift so fast it made my head spin.
The Monstrumologist— this last slot was a toss up between this and 172 Hours on the Moon because they were both so influential to me in middle school and both were great intros to grotesque/ horror sorts of books, but I think overall The Monstrumologist has a more fond place in my heart because I read the whole series.
4. What sections of a bookstore do you browse?
I mainly read mystery, fantasy, and sci-fi, so those sections. I have been know to pick up nonfiction spell books and stuff too because I like to look through them from time to time, though I’ve never actually tried to cast one.
6. What books have you read in the last month?
I’ve only read Feed by Mira Grant this last month— I really enjoyed it and will probably be reading the sequel soon
8. What is the first book you remember reading yourself?
The Doll in the Garden by Mary Downing Hahn and Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell, both were for book reports, but we got to choose them so I’m counting them.
10. Do you have any guilty favs?
Turtles All the Way Down by John Greene, listen, I have OCD and a dead dad, he got my number with that one.
12. Did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?
Yes, I ranged from not minding to actually enjoying a lot of the books we read, though not all of them. Some that I really enjoyed were: The Scarlet Letter, The Things They Carried, Frankenstein, A Tale of Two Cities— pour one out for Sydney Carton, and The Crucible.
14. Do you ever mark/dog ear books you own?
I used to do this a lot when I was younger— only paperbacks though, I was told it was a mortal sin to do that to a hardcover book, and honestly I still would dog ear a paperback if I didn’t have anything to act as a bookmark, because to me paperbacks are for convenience not style like hardcovers.
16. How many books have you read this year?
Honestly not that many, I think 3, maybe 2 1/2 because I can’t remember when I finished The Power. I’ve been slacking on that since I graduated middle school tbh.
18. Do you like historical books? Which time period?
Assuming this is referring to historical fiction, not books that are set in the time they were written which happens to be the past, I don’t not like them, but I don’t read them too often. The Monstrumologist series takes place in the late 1800s, and I do like the steam punk aesthetics so I’m leaning towards saying Victorian era?
20. What are things you look for in a book?
I usually look for fantastical or sci-fi elements in a book, interesting plot, and for the most part, I prefer a female protagonist, because you know, I’m a girl and girls rock, but that’s not an absolute deal breaker as you can see from my list of favorite books.

Ye Olde Tag Game
I was tagged by @bexminx, thanks a bunch for the tag. There’s something about these games that just gets me pumped for writing.
1: What book have you read a million times and would read a million times more? And why?
Keys to the Kingdom, by Garth Nix. I grew up with the series, reading them nearly as much as Harry Potter. It’s an older series, but you should check them out.
2: Which OC of your current wip did you come up with first?
That would be The Wingman. Our foolishly optimistic hero who’s on death’s door.
3: What piece of world-building gave or is giving you the most trouble?
I suppose (for now) that would be the gang initiations. I’ve never been in a gang (thank God!) so the only bit’s I kinda-sorta know are the stuff they show you on T.V. and that has a hit-and-miss track record. And I have ZERO interest in finding someone IRL who is/was in a gang for research purposes so-o-o-o... I’m just taking my best guess at the experience and hoping it doesn’t break everyone’s suspension of disbelief.
In the past, other struggles with worldbuilding also came from things I hadn’t experienced first hand or met someone who’s dealt with that issue before.
4: What type of scene is your favorite to write? Why?
Rising action scenes. Every time. I get wrapped up in my own intensity as the stakes get higher and higher. Anywhere you think to yourself whoa, that got tense fast. I’m sitting on the other end of the process going I know, right?!? Like it’s legit so much fun for me to just keep winding things up.
5: (Stealing this one) What chapter of your main wip is your favorite? Why?
I’ve not been writing on The City in FreeFall long enough to have a favorite yet =( But, for A Treasure Made of Death, I had a lot of love for my section titled Exploration and Frustration. It was the last time I had to really be fun before all the characters had to gear up for the intense action. And a lot of fun was had. =D Drake tried so hard to find something useful in this scene only for him to not even recognize a book when he (or more accurately, when Dela) found one.
6: If your OCs were transplanted into another genre (say, fantasy to sci-fi or sci-fi to horror), what would their new occupations be?
I could very easily see The Wingman transplanted into a horror film just to be that guy that gets killed because he was the one person to try to do the sensible thing. (Sensible things never work in horror films.)
7: How well would you survive if you were dropped into the world of your main wip?
Actually, Pretty well... Even if I was literally dropped into the world of The City in FreeFall, I’m pretty confident that The Wingman will catch me before anything bad happens.
8: Which of your OCs is the scariest, or if none are scary, which is the sweetest? Why?
That depends on how we want to define scary. I have characters who don’t rate very high on the unusual or spooky meters but their absolutely terrifying in implication. Like the Casual Killer from A Simple Casual Murder. But if we’re going for the “I met this thing in a haunted house and my soul left my body from fear alone.” We’re going to have to go with Blane Cook. Cook is a monster of a man who loves torturing people before killing them. Low key, he could star in his own horror film.
9: What would you say was the one thing that sparked the idea for your main wip?
I was watching the first season of Legends of Tomorow and I really didn’t like what they did to Kendra and Carter’s characters. Like, Hawkgirl and Hawkman have so much potential if you’re rebooting their origin story but they were the blandest characters of the season! So I was thinking of Superheroes and how I’d create my own when I felt the urge to write the idea page for CFF. And thus The Wingman was born!
10: Describe the space you write in like you’re telling a story.
I’ll start at the table, my laptop plugged in. My cat’s try to help me write by sitting on my keyboard. My brother’s watching T.V. in the living room. The cats won’t stop biting the charger, I have to make a choice. Spray-bottle or move... I choose to move. Nowhere I sit is good today. My room? Too dark, too cluttered. The living room is too loud. In a fit of despiration, I grab a card table and a folding chair and sit outside. The heat hit’s me like a wave. Bugs cry out from the woods. Our outdoor cats rub against my ankles looking for attention. But they don’t jump on the table. My fingers fly across the keyboard. What will I write next? Even I don’t know.
A pause.
The next line occurs to me. I write it down as fast as I can before the train of thought leaves me forever. The sun is straight above me. I’m drowning in my own sweat. My concrete porch is protected by a wooden roof that wasps now claim as their home. I itch at my feet, in my socs, on my leg, and down my back. Flies, I hope. I write the next line and pray it’s not spiders. And why should it be spiders? They don’t like humans... I swat at my itches aggressively. The cat’s look at me like I’m a madman. The porch is too safe. Too close to the wall. Bugs won’t leave me alone. I move to the grass underneath the massive oak. It’s the biggest tree I’ve ever seen, probably the biggest in the state. I can’t help but admire it as I sit beneath limbs that are bigger around than I am. The chair sinks three inches into the wet grass again. I don’t have to sit here for long, just long enough to finish the scene.
I can’t do it!
The bugs are maddening. I can’t stop itching!
What line was I on? What line is next?? I have to re-read what I wrote. No time to edit, just focus. The. Next. Line. Is... There! Back on track again. The scene is so close to finishing. Oh, what I wouldn’t do for a room that locked, or a table inside that filled with loving cats! It’s not their fault. They don’t understand why it’s so important to-
It’s finished! I’m a week behind my schedule, but my bit for today is done! I can go inside, so I do. A shower awaits! When I’m done I can get on Twitter, on Tumblr and watch more YouTube videos on the couch. I didn’t get a call today either... Summer’s already began but no one wants to hire a starving author from nowheresville when there are teens eagerly applying for jobs. I must be a madman...
I must be a madman...
I must be...
11: What is the first thing you remember reading and thinking ‘This inspires me to write’?
You know what? I’m not sure. When I started, I got that “I want to write,” moment when I turned in my assignment for our eighth-grade English assignment. We were supposed to make up a story based around a butterfly we spend a period drawing and while everyone else turned in their 1 and a half page minimum I had seven pages... and it still wasn’t finished... ^///^
One of my other teachers heard about the incident and said that I should be a writer and I just... liked the idea of it. It was like the perfect glove, a shoe that was just my size. It felt right. And I’ve wanted to write ever since.
SO, I know at least some of you might be concerned about the above story. Don’t be. It is just a story.
I did go outside to write the other day, but it wasn’t nearly that bad... mostly. There’s not really a good place to write in my house and I do move around a lot... but I wrote this as if it was happening to someone else. My thoughts are so meta-focused that it’s hard to imagine what I’d do, say, or think in any given scenario... Makes it easy to get into other character’s heads... not so much for my own.
Sorry if I scared you.
@ If you see this post. You’re tagged! No excuses! Like and reblog now. (because I can see you. =P) and make your own tag responses. (Also don’t forget to go to bexminx at the top of the page and give her a few likes as well.)

Book thing
I saw this floating around my dash, and I wanted to do it, even though nobody tagged me. But I do love books!
I talk about books frequently on my twitter, so consider following!
1. First things first, what is your MBTI type? - INFP
2. When did you learn to read? - On the first grade, so I think I was seven?
3. What languages can you read in? - Finnish and English. I read mainly English these days, to keep up the language, expand the vocabulary and most of the books I read are written in English in the first place.
4. What books are you currently reading or most recently read? - I am currently in the middle of Karin Lowachee’s “Burndive”, second book of the Warboy series. I am enjoying it greatly! I also very recently finished my ordeal with TJ Klune’s Tales from Verania series.
5. Name 3 books you never finished: - There are probably quite a few... But what notably comes to mind: Leo Toltstoi’s “War and Peace”, JRR Tolkien’s “Silmarillion” and JK Rowling’s “Casual Vacancy”.
6. What are your favorite books from childhood? - All the children’s books Mauri Kunnas ever managed to made. Variety of horse themed books by Merja and Marvi Jalo. Potters, obviously.
And as for comics, Donald Duck was a big one, but W.I.T.C.H. and horse comics by Lena Furberg were the biggest influencers of all.
7. What are your current favorite books? - Potters stayed up there, certainly. But “Good Omens” by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, “Neverwhere” by Neil Gaiman... There are so many!
8. Your favorite genres: Mystery / Sci-fi / Chick Lit / Young Adult / Horror / Nonfiction / Memoirs / Dystopias / Poetry / Self-Help / Historical Fiction / Fanfiction / Realistic Fiction / Biographies / Satire-Black Comedy / Philosophy / Fantasy / Manga
9. Your opinion on rereading books: I do it all the time / I really love books but I have very little time / It has to be a really good book / I can’t stand it / I haven’t done it since I was a child / I only reread my favorite sections.
10. How long does it take you to read one book on average? - Depends on the book a lot. A silly romance book takes maximum of three day (I mostly read on the bus and just before I go to sleep), but bigger, more serious book can take a week or two, even if it is good.
11. How do you typically read? - On the bus, with instrumental music in my headphones or in bed. Sometimes curled up to the corner of the couch.
12. How many books do you typically read in a year? None or 1/About 1 to 3/Maybe 4 to 10/At least more than 10/Between 10 and 50/ At least 50/ Too much.
13. For school assigned books, what type of student are/were you? - I read most of them, though through gritted teeth because I can’t remember liking a single one of them. And every time we had the option of “free choice, just run it by teacher”, I took it. But, I dutifully did my reports, and critiqued the books on the parts I didn’t like. Teachers loved me.

MBTI Book tag
Tagged by: @prossima-nebulosa thanks :D
This tag is a nightmare it’s like a music tag help
1. First things first, what is your MBTI type? I never can remember it and my friend who knows it for me is asleep, but I think I’m ENFP?
2. When did you learn to read? Idk around 5-6? Like most kids? My mom told me I learnt quickly though (at least, compared to my older brother).
3. What languages can you read in? Well I can read languages but can I understand? That is the question. I can read Russian and Greek for instance but can’t understand it. Otherwise, I can read and understand in French, English and Spanish (hrm).
4. What books are you currently reading or most recently read?
A book I picked myself: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, but I haven’t read it in a while. I’m checking randomly a book about the Meaning of Body Language when I travel and I gotta read Le Spleen de Paris by Charles Baudelaire.
If I’m being honest, I’m reading a Tododeku fic lately and this is a great one: Pulling the Wires, 19 chapters so far and you should totally check it out.
5. Name 3 books you never finished: Lmao that’s gonna be fun:
Madame Bovary (Gustave Flaubert) around 2013-2014 I tried to read this bitch’s story for 2 years and never could go over part II, can’t believe I got 19/20 on the test of knowledge of the book (thank you internet and quick online readings)
L’Enfant (Jules Valès) around 2010-2011 I studied an extract in class and Idk what happened I thought it would be interesting to read it and it was a mistake, I forced myself to read it but gave up half way the book.
Robinson Crusoe (Daniel Defoe) 2016-2017 I believe I hated this book more than Madame Bovary and that’s saying a lot, at least I liked studying Flaubert, I couldn’t read past 30 pages of that horrible, horrible annoying and boring book (yes I’m harsh but it was such a disappointment)
6. What are your favorite books from childhood? I’m sorry what? Do you know how many books I read during my childhood??? I can’t say?????? I’m gonna give a few titles randomly but wow
The Golden Compass trilogy (Philip Pullman)
Tara Duncan (Sophie Audouin-Mammikonian)
The Eragon trilogy (Christopher Paolini)
The Bartimaeus Trilogy (Jonathan Stroud)
Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins)
Méto (Yves Grevet)
Les Colombes du Roi-Soleil (Anne-Marie Desplat-Duc)
Marie-Antoinette, les Jardins Secrets d’une Princesse (Anne-Sophie Sylvestre)
7. What are your current favorite books?
???? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME I can’t tell I read a few pages of The Three Musketeers (Alexandre Dumas) and it was enough for me to say I love it already so I’m gonna say that for now, along with almost any of Eric-Emmanuel Schmidt’s books (closely followed by Bernard Werber but I haven’t read his works in the past six years).
Multiple Choice (bold as many as apply to you & add your own choice if you must)
8. Your favorite genres: Mystery/Sci-fi/Chick Lit/Young Adult/Horror/Nonfiction/Memoirs/Dystopias/Poetry/Self-Help/Historical Fiction/Fanfiction/Realistic Fiction/Biographies/Satire-Black Comedy/Philosophy/Fantasy
9. Your opinion on rereading books: I do it all the time/It has to be a really good book/I can’t stand it/I haven’t done it since I was a child/I only reread my favorite sections.
10. How long does it take you to read one book on average? So long. I got so slow. I’m reading like 2 books a year when I used to read 3 to 7 a month. I hate this. I can’t tell. But at least 2 months now.
11. How do you typically read? When I get on a trip, I always try to get back to books and read again! So it’s usually in transports. I tend to read fanfictions on my phone if I read something before going to bed.
12. How many books do you typically read in a year? None or 1/About 1 to 3/Maybe 4 to 10/At least more than 10/ At least 50/ Too much. I can’t keep track
13. For school assigned books, what type of student are/were you?
Before until last year: I read it in time, sometimes before. To make it perfect I made researches on the internet and Sparknotes.
Now: I’m always late, last time I worked on Illusions Perdues (Balzac) and analysed the whole part we studied without having time to finish it, this is horrible. Right now I should be working on Baudelaire but it’s so much better to be late ahah kill me Internet and essays of analyses save me.
tagging: @arosegxrden @abrokendawn @castorsbooks @dimancheetoile @saluzozette @lux-morningstar @chi-loves-keith @miss-littlegiant @petite-neko and anyone who wants to do it

Chips List of Horror
Hi I’m Chips and I adore horror, so this is going to be a huge and I do mean huge, list of my favourite horror manga, anime and Asian horror movies. If you enjoy the genre but could do with something more to read/watch then look to this list as it include lesser known series. Right at the end I’ll add in all the popular/well known ones without detailing, just assume I think they’re decent series since I’ve added them in. I will be doing a western version of this: TV series, comics and movies etc in the future. Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions on this, so don’t get stroppy because I like something if you found it to be bad.
Manga:
Anything by Itou Junji-
He’s well know in the horror sector, a lot of short story collections and they’re always fantastic. I don’t want to ruin anything so just go and check him out, his most well know works include Tomie, Yami no Koe and Uzumaki. A lot of his stuff is really surreal or contains body horror, you’ve probably seen a couple of his horror panels floating around tumblr from time to time.
I am Hero- It’s brilliant, yes it’s about zombies however goes down a slightly different route and has some genuinely interesting characterisation. Ousama Game (Renda Hitori)- Not to be mistaken for the other manga with the same name...I love this one and it will be appearing later in another section, it’s got a lot of gore and some mystery thrown in. It’s a survival horror than involves and classroom of students that need to follow the kings orders and play his games, or death. Gantz- Honestly I adore this, it’s so different and the plot...oh boy be prepared to be taken on a ride. Fair amount of gore but reasonably used and has a nice cast of characters... I’d describe it as Sci-fi horror but very unique.
American Ghost Jack- It has horror, supernatural elements and even a little bit of romance. It was very intriguing, I quite liked it actually and it’s an easy read. I’m sure I read that there was going to be a sequel but don’t quote me on that. Real Account/Real Account 2: They’re parallel stories, gosh darn I enjoyed this one. I just really love survival horror type scenarios, it’s kind of crazy with lots of gore and I really like the main cast.
Apocalypse no Toride- It starts off in a prison and then everything goes to shit, it’s got zombie elements and sci-fi elements (think hive minds) and honestly it’s fantastic. I adore all the characters and to be honest I keep praying this will one day be made into an anime.
Online-The Comic- Another one that’s interesting, to do with video games but with horror/gore and mystery thrown in. It’s actually really good, let’s just say I’d hate to be thrown in to this kind of scenario. Wouldn’t you hate a game that could kill you?
Bio Meat- So basically the usual, humanity is stupid. They use science to make creatures that eat rubbish and then is killed off for meat. Let’s just say it’s a terrible idea and most of the blood on the pages is from humans.
Tenkuu Shinpan- This has gone under the radar and it really shouldn’t of, it’s brilliant. Skyscrapers, murders in masks and a person deemed ‘god’ of that world. It’s fantastic with some awesome characters and gore.
Hakaijuu- Oh look another one about creatures trying to kill humanity with lots of gore in, is it the end of the world? Maybe... What can I say I’m a sucker for apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic horror. Torikago no Tsugai- A group of people trapped in a place, solve puzzles or die. They’ve got to solve the mystery of the birdcage or die trying to get out, very simple but nicely delivered.
Dolly Kill Kill- Alien insects, dolls....murder of a large amount of the human race...people getting abilities and a fight for the survival of the human race. It’s very interesting, very gory and very fun to read. Nemuri No Fuchi- It’s surreal and supernatural, it’s very good with a very different plot. It involves and labyrinth, a little girl and some people looking for answers.
Green Worldz- What if the apocalypse was actually plants? Not seriously, this sounds stupid but is actually fantastic...The creatures, the plant structures are incredible, the gore is on point and the plot is fairly good This is a really nice read. Dolls Code- Guy wakes up, memories gone in a school of criminals, six other boys have each had a body part taken. They have to figure out who the puppet is to get them back and graduate. It’s really short and sweet but good none the less.
Mouryou no Yurikago- What’s worse than zombies? Being stuck on a slowly sinking cruise ship and zombies. Oh yeah this ones a ride, some ecchi in it but over all a good read with some decent characters.
Kichikujima- They land on a island where there are some very horrific things going on, a messed up family and a lot of gore. They people...will they survive? I suggest anyone who’s not into the darker side of things not to read. Hideout- I don’t even know how to describe this one, let’s say it’s a captive horror with some mystery. It managed to unsettle me but that’s a good thing. A bit of gore, a fair amount of horror and it’s worth checking out. Kyochuu Rettou- So it’s an island full of giant insects that view humans as prey and an airplane full of students who have crash landed there. It’s survival horror with some ecchi thrown in, if you can look over a lot of nudity/perverted shots then it’s a good read. I honestly don’t mind some ecchi as long as the plot is good. Gyo- I’m sure a lot of people have heard of this, the one with fish in it. You know, fish taking over...fish with scuttling little legs.... No? Read it...I don’t think there’s anything worse than a land shark.
Kangoku Jikken- You want dark? This is for you, take someone of your choice captive and do anything bar killing them that you want in a month. However if they guess your name, they win and will get the 10 million yen at the end of the month. This is a psychological gore fest with some very dark themes and it’s gone going, pretty good stuff.
Some quick fire horror collections: 2001 + 5 , Hyaku Monogatari, 8.1 Yamada Yuusuke Gekijou and Kouishou Rajio
Anime:
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress- I freaking love this so much, it has a flesh eating virus and a badass protagonist who is far too lovable. I won’t say too much as honestly it’s just worth watching.
King of Thorn- This is an anime movie adaptation of manga but it’s perfect, they couldn’t of done better and flows the manga so closely. I’d say watch this, then read the manga. They’re both amazing, anyway it’s about medusa virus which causes people to turn to stone and people ‘frozen in sleep’ to try and save humanity but they wake up when they’re not supposed to, it follows the story of a twin.
Shiki- A deadly disease that eventually kills sweeps a small village but the real lesson in this anime is that the real horror lies in humans. It revolves mainly around a group of teenagers.
Mayoiga- A village that can’t be found where you can live a perfect life and a bus full of people looking for it but when they get there, is this urban legend true or was the reason it couldn’t be found more sinister? It’s alright, a great lead up and ends up a little under whelming but a good casual watch.
Kowabon- It’s got ghosts and techonology, so there’s no escape from the horror and I think that’s the true terror. It’s got some nail biting moments and is a short enough series to binge. (There aren’t many anime series that are really decent in the horror section aside from the more well known series which a will be putting at the end of these lists.)
Movies/TV Series (Live action not animated unless stated otherwise):
Anything by Takashi Miike- He’s been named a master of horror and for a good reason, his movies are disturbing, interesting and strange. Usually full to the brim with unique characters, the tales he weave are horrific but you won’t want to look away. My favourites include Ichi the Killer and Imprint. Though here are some more special mentions:
As the Gods will- If you don’t want to read the Ousama manga then the live action is fantastic, it’s nothing special plot or special effects wise but it’s very good for a watch and I hope there will be sequel to follow the manga plot further. It’s got gore and it’s got bizarre
Terra Formarz- It’s actually both a manga and anime series but honestly I didn’t like either, however watching Miike’s live action of it was enjoyable. A bit zaney but good none the less, an easy and interesting watch
Others- Audition, Three Extremes(The Box), Visitor Q, Gozu, One Missed Call and Over my Dead Body
Train to Busan- I’m adding it in because it’s one of the best zombie based movies I’ve watched in a long time along with a protagonist you really route for, these movie has become fairly well known.
Old Boy- This is a classic and fairly well known but how could I not put it here, it’s got everything. Beautiful cinematography, a really intriguing plot and really is a thriller that glues me to the screen every time with some nice plot twists. Hansel and Gretel- A surreal but disturbing psychological horror with fantasy thrown in surround a man who crashes his car and stumbles upon a cottage with 3 children. A very unique take on the Grim’s tale and it kept me invested till the end.
Kuchisake-Onna- I’m sure a few of you will know of the slit mouth woman who carries around huge scissors. A live action movies about this legend and it’s pretty good, they sure made her look eerie. Suicide Club- Also a manga, it’s a good watch. Quite disturbing for some pepole with obviously dark themes/tones. Just... watch it if you wish. Guinea Pig Series- Watch at your own risk. Highly disturbing when they first aired, to the point where people thought there were actual snuff films. Obviously they’ve ages quite a bit but other the watch for any gore lovers.
Grotesque- Another one to watch at your own risk, this is what some people would describe as torture porn. A couple get kidnapped and tortured by a doctor to see how much pain they can for through for the sake of love. Nothing to spoil, just some outrageous gore... the ending ruined it a bit though. Noiroi- The Curse- Very bizarre and the old style of filming as a ‘documentary’ was so effective in delivering that creepy tone. This is one meant to make your skin crawl. Dumplings- I really can’t say much about this movie without spoiling it, it’s about dumplings that are said to keep you youthful but obviously there’s a lot more to it. Some disturbing themes.
More popular Asian horror to see(This includes a mix of all three media forms):
There are well known or popular, be aware that some of them may just have horror some themes or gore in them and won’t be purely linked to that genre alone. This will also be a mixture of movies, manga and anime in no order.
Akira, Beserk, Battle Royal, Ju-On, D.Gray Man, Another, Hellsing, Corpse Party, Gakkougurashi!, Elven Lied, Ajin, Ringu, Tokyo Ghoul, Highschool of the Dead, The Chasing World, Deadman Wonderland, Death Note Vampire Hunter D, Shinsekai Yori, Kukurenbo, Attack on Titan, Cello, The Tale of Two Sisters, 3x3 Eyes, Jojos Bizarre Adventure, Whispering Corridors, I Saw the Devil, Boogiepop Phantom, Violence Jack, Cindrella, The Wig and many more, please ask me if you need any suggestions for horror to watch.

@hardcorefangirlgroupie you tag me in a book tag game. Let me HUG YOU!
1. First things first, what’s you MBTI type?

5. Name three books you’ve never finished.
On the Road by Jack Kerouac because I didn’t like it.
The Uses of Enchantment by Bruno Bettelheim because it scared me.
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Vern because the descriptions are so long and it suffers of some archaic concepts. 6. What are your favorite books from your childhood?
Erwan le maudit de Michel Honaker. I don’t think there is an english version, it can be translated as “Erwan the cursed boy” and it talks about a 15 years old boy with strange abilities who goes on a trip to escape angry villagers and who learns he is the son of... Yeah, kudo for Daddy Satan!
7. Current favorite books?
Omc OMC OMC OMChuuuuuuuuuck!

For example, the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter,

Book talk meme I stole from erli & ered
1. First things first, what is your MBTI type? - INFJ.
2. When did you learn to read? - When I was 5.
3. What languages can you read in? - Finnish and English fluently, French if it’s not about rocket science, and I can kind of read simple stuff like comics in Swedish, German and Japanese but it’s not great.
4. What books are you currently reading or most recently read? - I finished an audiobook of The Catcher in the Rye a few days ago. We were never assigned the book at school so I never read it before, which is fine because I wouldn’t have found it interesting as a teenager.
5. Name 3 books you never finished: - J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy. Wilkie Collins’s The Moonstone, which I keep having false starts with but I still hope to finish someday. The Bible?
6. What are your favorite books from childhood? - The Moomin books by Tove Jansson and The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren. I read a lot of The Famous Five books but dang if I can remember what happened in any of them anymore, except that it was described often and in loving detail what the kids ate.
7. What are your current favorite books? - And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. All the Jeeves books by P.G. Wodehouse. The next question seems to count manga as a literary genre? A Drunken Dream and Other Stories by Moto Hagio :D
8. Your favorite genres: Mystery / Sci-fi / Chick Lit / Young Adult / Horror / Nonfiction / Memoirs / Dystopias / Poetry / Self-Help / Historical Fiction / Fanfiction / Realistic Fiction / Biographies / Satire-Black Comedy / Philosophy / Fantasy / Manga
Yeah why isn’t Romance a genre though, or just straight-up Comedy
9. Your opinion on rereading books: I do it all the time / I really love books but I have very little time / It has to be a really good book / I can’t stand it / I haven’t done it since I was a child / I only reread my favorite sections.
10. How long does it take you to read one book on average? - That…really depends on the book?? A few hours if it’s a 200 page short story, a few months if it’s War and Peace.
11. How do you typically read? - Honestly, these days I listen to most of my books as audiobooks while I work. Sitting down and just reading a book without being able to do anything productive at the same time feels almost decadent and luxurious now :D Sometimes I read in bed, ebooks or physical books.
12. How many books do you typically read in a year? None or 1/About 1 to 3/Maybe 4 to 10/At least more than 10/Between 10 and 50/ At least 50/ Too much.
13. For school assigned books, what type of student are/were you? - I was a nerd and diligently read each one. Not all of them became my favourites or anything but my teachers introduced me to a lot of wonderful stuff like Agatha Christie or Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Tag Game: Books
Thank you so much for the tag @dutchwallflower ^▽^
First things first, what is your MBTI type? INFJ-T :D
When did you learn to read? When I was five I can already read children story books written in Tagalog ^^
What languages can you read in? English and Filipino :D
What book are you currently reading or most recently read? I’m currently reading How to Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee ^^ and lots of shoujo mangas! (If you want manga recommendations, I could give you some :D hehehe)
Name 3 books you never finished: I always try my best to finish all books I started reading regardless of how boring/ annoying some books could be so I only have two books which are left unfinished: The Princess and The Goblin by George MacDonald (which is a fantasy novel I found in my high school library. I really like Princess Irene's story but sadly I graduated without even finishing it because I was rarely in the library due to my busy schedule when I was in my senior year) and Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow (I still have to finish this book but I stopped reading this novel halfway because it can really affect you emotionally if you are like me who is easy to empathize with the characters. I plan on rereading it next time when I feel like I want to self-destruct hahaha XD really this book is so beautifully written yet very very depressing).
What are your favourite books from childhood? For a kid I am really weird because I love reading Noli Me Tangere (which is about how is it like here in Philippines during the Spanish occupation) and the child-friendly version of Grimm's Fairy Tales (but now that I read the gory version, I prefer that one more hahaha) and The Mouse Called Wolf (a real children's book!)
What are your current favourite books? I have wayyyy to many favorite books but okay here are the ones on top of my list: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi, Lunar Chronicles Series by Marissa Meyer, The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom, Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Multiple Choice (bold as many as apply to you & add your own choice if you must)
Your favorite genres: Mystery | Crime | Sci-fi | Fantasy | Chick Lit | Young Adult | Horror | Nonfiction | Memoir | Dystopia | Poetry | Self-Help | Historical Fiction | Fanfiction | Realistic Fiction | Biography | Children | Picture Books | Contemporary | Classics | Manga
Your opinion on re-reading books: I do it all the time | Has to be a really good book | I can’t stand it | I haven’t done it since I was a child | I only re-read my favorite sections | Should be done with caution
How long does it take you to read one book on average? 1 to 3 days (if it’s a really good book) | A week (if I am forcing myself to finish it XD)| A few weeks | About a month | Several months | One day up to several months, completely depending on how busy I am (I guess it also depends on the length of the book too)
How do you typically read? Every opportunity I get, in transit, while waiting, etc. | Before bed | On the go by audiobook | When I can truly relax | When I remember to
How many books do you typically read in a year? None or 1 | About 1 to 3 | Maybe 4 to 10 | At least more than 10 (typically, it’s 20-30 books for me per year) | At least 50 | Too much. I can’t keep track | Varies between 5 and 50 | Anywhere between 30 and 60
For school assigned books, what type of student are/were you? I read all the books in detail | I read all but sometimes skimmed | I nearly read all, I may have skipped a few because they were too boring (I’m a very picky reader so for me school books are wayyyyyyyyy too boring to read. Unless they are about Psychology, Astronomy and History then I do not really mind :D) | I only read the interesting ones | There’s a reason why Sparknotes was made!
I am tagging all my awesome friends @amia-springs @yuuki-clyde @suzunofuusuke @otome-doll @reizenforlife @fayemichaels :D

Tag game!
@brieflymaximumprincess a book-themed tag game?! Yes!!!
1. FIRST THINGS FIRST, WHAT’S YOU MBTI TYPE? Based on my very accurate scientific research (google) it came to these four things: Where you focus your attention – Extraversion or Introversion The way you take in information – Sensing or Intuition How you make decisions – Thinking or Feeling How you deal with the world – Judging or Perceiving
2. WHEN DID YOU LEARN TO READ? When I was 6 I think
3. WHAT LANGUAGES CAN YOU READ IN? Italian, English and a bit of spanish
4. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING, OR MOST RECENTLY READ? Liking so many fanfic authors means I have not much time to read an actual paper book, so there’s the one I meant to finish months ago, Guiscardi senza gloria, I don’t think it has an english translation, but it’s about a zombie apocalypse in Italy, specifically Venice (and it’s really cool)
5. NAME THREE BOOKS YOU’VE NEVER FINISHED. People are gonna kill me for this, but I never finished reading the Harry Potter books. I stoped halfway through the fourth one (I was 8 and very scared of the bad guys). Never finished paradise lost and zeno's conscience either, that one was really fun but too slow for my liking.
6. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD? Whoo boy okay I loved Ink Heart. Ashfingers (that’s how the name was in italian idk) was my favourite character and still is in my top list. I think I’ve read it a dozen times. Also the Eragon serie. If you think I’ve passed my dragon phase, you’re wrong.
7. CURRENT FAVORITE BOOKS? I will never get over 10 Little Indians. Never.
MULTIPLE CHOICE: (BOLD THOSE THAT APPLY TO YOU AND ADD CHOICES IF YOU MUST)

None or 1/About 1 to 3/May be 4 to 10/At least more than 10/ At least 50/ Too much. I can’t keep track. /varies between 5 and 50/anywhere between 30 and 60 If we count fanfic then it’s definitely more than 60 haha
13. FOR SCHOOL ASSIGNED BOOK, WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT ARE/WERE YOU?
I read all the books in detail/I read all but sometimes skimmed/I nearly read all, I may have skipped a few because they were too boring/I only read the interesting ones/There’s a reason why Sparknotes was made! We were never really given books to read aside from poetry and I never read those. Searched the meanings on google and that’s it.
Tagging @blakechaos08 @cazaki98 @spnyoucantkeepmedown probably already been tagged but what can I do heh
